!!The Wisps
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/idw_w&t003_wisps_b.png]]
-->Introduced in: Issue #3

Little aliens composed of energy that have taken up residence on Sonic's world following a plot by Dr. Eggman to kidnap and absorb all of their power. The various types joined the Resistance forces to win back the planet during the war against the Eggman Empire, and formed close partnerships with certain people and towns. [[Characters/SonicTheHedgehogIDWTheRestoration Whisper's Wisps are listed separately.]]
----
* ElementalPowers: Wisps are composed of Hyper-go-on energy, and can be absorbed or phase into objects, granting increased abilities such as transforming into lasers, energy cubes, and more.
* ICallItVera: Most Wisps, such as Whisper's, are named after their respective colors, but at least two have personal nicknames: Red Hot, a Red Burst Wisp belonging to Ashe[[note]]the son of the Forest Ridge Campground ranger in the ''Trial by Fire'' arc[[/note]], and Maggie, a Magenta Rhythm Wisp partnered with Lanolin.
* TheUnintelligible: Wisps speak their own language, which is completely indecipherable except through a translator program such as the Miles Electric and the Diamond Cutters' masks. They generally get the point across by gesturing or expressions.

!!Big the Cat
[[quoteright:300:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/idw032_bigfroggy01.png]]
[[caption-width-right:300:"Froggy?"]]
-->Introduced in: Issue #25

A large and very simple-minded cat who occasionally aids Sonic and his friends when not looking for his friend, Froggy, or fishing.
----
* AchievementsInIgnorance: Oblivious as Big is to the Metal Virus or its effects, he's the third-to-last of Sonic's friends to fall victim to it[[note]]behind Cream and Knuckles[[/note]], dodging no less than ''five'' Zombot outbreaks unscathed before his luck runs out.
* AndThenJohnWasAZombie: He makes his IDW debut already infected by the Metal Virus.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Big is usually a GentleGiant, but ''do not'' [[BerserkButton threaten his friends]] if you know what's good for you.
* TheBigGuy: [[MeaningfulName Easily the tallest character of the cast]] and [[SuperStrength quite strong to boot]].
* ADayInTheLimelight: Big gets his own story in the 2020 Annual titled ''Big's Big Adventure''. It recounts several scenes from the previous arcs but shows that Big was there as well, just offscreen (referencing the way he'd cameo in various scenes from ''Sonic Adventure 2''). The story, naturally, follows him trying to find Froggy.
* TheDitz: He somehow didn't notice the Zombot apocalypse happening around him. This is downplayed, because he noticed the world got "scary." It's just he didn't know ''why'' it was scary. When he and Amy are cured of their Metal Virus infections, Amy cheers and hugs him, while Big has ''absolutely no idea'' what's going on. In Issue #30, the heroes' airship is parked right behind Big [[spoiler:when Eggman steals it]]. Big barely if at all seems to notice and doesn't even alert the others until it's too late.
* DemotedToExtra: This version Big has a ''much'' smaller role than in [[ComicBook/SonicTheHedgehogArchieComics the previous comic]]. He isn't a regular part of the cast, nor is he part of Team Rose with Amy and Cream. He doesn't even appear on-page until the end of Issue #25, and even then, a one-panel shot of his Zombot form's [[SinisterSilhouettes silhouette]] is all that's seen of him. Thus far, he has only played significant roles during two of the last issues in the Metal Virus Saga, his 2020 Annual story, and the Winter Jam one-shot.
* {{Foreshadowing}}: In Issue #22, while we don't see him, one of the dialogue bubbles among the crowd of survivors has them calling out for Froggy not shortly before all Hell breaks loose. In Issue #25, he makes his onscreen debut, having been infected by the virus. [[spoiler:This turns out to be {{Fauxshadowing}}, as it's revealed in the 2020 Annual he left right before the outbreak started.]]
* FunnyBackgroundEvent:
** His story in the 2020 Annual (even the Metal Virus portion).
** [[spoiler:When Eggman steals the heroes' airship and escapes]] in Issue #30, Froggy gets away from Big ''again'' during the commotion, and Big chases after him in the background as Knuckles leaves the scene.
* {{Kevlard}}: PlotArmor aside, Big's obesity allows him to go through a lot unscathed, be it attacks from other characters or falling off Angel Island into the ocean. [[spoiler:Exaggerated while he's a Zombot, which renders him [[NighInvulnerability outright impervious to physical attacks]]. In Issue #29, Amy hammers him hard enough to send any other Zombot-ified character flying, but Big is [[NoSell totally unaffected]].]]
* MightyGlacier: Big is almost as slow physically as he is mentally, but his SuperStrength rivals Knuckles' and Vector's and he is highly resistant.
* PurpleIsPowerful: As his profile pic aptly shows.

!!Marine the Raccoon
[[quoteright:300:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/marinesolo.png]]
-->Introduced in: Annual 2022

A junior sea captain from the Sol Dimension, and an ally of Blaze.
----
* AwesomeAussie: As usual, she speaks with an Australian "pirate" accent.
* TheBusCameBack: A meta example. Marine's IDW debut in the 2022 Annual marked her first major appearance in the franchise since the ''Pirate Plunder Panic'' arc of ''ComicBook/SonicTheHedgehogArchieComics''--a nine-year absence in realtime.
* CoolShip: The Ocean Tornado.
* GenkiGirl: She's a little more mature in this book, but still as friendly and eager as ever.
* IChooseToStay: Before leaving for her vacation, Blaze invites Marine to come along. She declines, opting to take care of things in the Sol Dimension on Blaze's behalf.

-->Introduced in: Annual 2019

A group of kids who, as as the name states, are major fans of Sonic.
----
* DontTouchItYouIdiot: Jewel specifically tells one of the member not to touch some of the Metal Virus while she goes to help his friend down off a hay bale surrounded by some of the gunk. [[TooDumbToLive The dope pokes at it anyway when she's not looking]], gets it on his hand and unwittingly infects her in the process.
* {{Fanboy}}: All of them naturally, their premiere story focuses on them racing and rolling around like Sonic and they even get saved by Sonic (albeit him going so fast they, and the reader, can't see him).
* NoNameGiven: None of the individual characters are really named as of yet.
* ShoutOut: One of the members, the one with a pink shirt, is inspired by the titular ''WesternAnimation/StevenUniverse''. They have the same shirt and a similar kind of hair, except blond.
* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: Two of the members are the reason Jewel ended up getting infected by the Metal Virus (one had touched some of the gunk out of curiosity when she warned him not to, and the other already got some of it on her but didn't think it was that big a deal at the time). This in turn is what lead to Tangle getting infected later.

[[folder:Nite and Don]]
!!Nite the Owl and Don the Rooster
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/idwannual2020_nite&don01.png]]
[[caption-width-right:350:Don the Rooster (Left), Nite the Owl (Right)]]
-->Introduced in: Annual 2020

Two birds that work at the radio station K-TBR 199.2. Nite is the disc jockey for the station, while Don is the custodian.
----
* ChangedMyMindKid: Don initially starts to pull a ScrewThisImOuttaHere when Nite insists on staying to help the citizens through the radio. But hearing him talking with a Resistance member over the air, he has a change of heart and comes back to aid him and barricade doors to keep the Zombots out.
* ContinuityCameo: Nite has a cameo in the Classic Sonic focused story "Sonic Learns to Drive," albeit heard only over the radio.
* NoCelebritiesWereHarmed: Nite is based off of [[Podcast/TheAdventureZone Clint [=McElroy=]]].
* OhCrap: Both of them when the Zombot pandemic starts as they get calls from the citizens of Sunset City being attacked [[KilledMidSentence and subsequently being cut off as well]].
* OppositesAttract: Nite's laid back, positive, and active at night while Don's curmudgeonly, negative, and not a night person. In spite of that, the two are in a relationship and care about one another a lot.
* PunnyName: Nite is an owl, a "night owl". Don is a rooster, which crows at dawn.
* StraightGay: According to WordOfGod, the two are a couple, and they don't show any stereotypical or camp mannerisms.[[invoked]]
* UncertainDoom: Their chapter ends with a Zombot approaching their station while Don barricades the doors and windows. It is unknown if they manage to survive or were turned into Zombots themselves and restored later.

[[folder:Gala the Hound]]
!!Gala the Hound
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/galasolo.png]]
-->Introduced in: ''Tangle & Whisper'' #1

An Afghan Hound and neighbor of Tangle and Jewel, who works on the farms near their hometown.
----
* AndThenJohnWasAZombie: In the 2020 Annual, she contacts Nite and Don for help via radio while being chased by Zombots. She gets caught and infected moments later, and her call abruptly drops.
* IdiotBall: In Issue #49, a Badnik horde answering Dr. Starline's recall signal leaves Gala and two other people stranded in their truck. Against the driver's warnings, she tries to clear the road using a Wispon--which would've backfired, as the Badniks won't attack unless provoked. Sonic intervenes and tells her group to seek shelter instead.
* MeaningfulName: She's named after Evan Stanley's favorite type of apple, much like the ones she farms.
* NonStandardCharacterDesign: Unlike the majority of the cast, she wears fingerless gloves.
* RecurringExtra: She appears as a a background character every now and then.
[[/folder]]

!The Scrapniks
[[folder:General]]
!!The Scrapniks
-->Introduced in: ''Scrapnik Island #1''

The inhabitants of Scrapnik Island, an artificial land-form made entirely of old mechanical parts, consisting primarily of numerous, rusted-up hodge-podges of Classic-era Badniks. Despite being former Eggman creations, they're actually not hostile, and offer to assist Sonic and Tails when the island's malfunctioning climate disruptor creates a freak thunderstorm that results in their crash-landing.
----
* AerithAndBob: In a setting where there are characters named Sonic, Tails, and more, the Scrapniks have a variety of normal-sounding names. These include Ben, Nevin, Emily, Carina, and Tom, among others. The smaller Scrapniks contrast against some of the larger and more distinguished ones like E-117 Sigma, Mecha Sonic, and Mecha Knuckles.
* AllThereInTheScript:
** The names of each individual Scrapnik can be seen in the concept art sheets shared on Twitter by [[https://twitter.com/deegeemin/status/1615794844693336065 deegeemin]], [[https://twitter.com/thomas_rsvd/status/1615814189821399052 Thomas Rothlis]], and [[https://twitter.com/Ls1389/status/1615805721748115469 Natalie Haines]].
** The three Eggrobo Scrapniks, [[https://twitter.com/Danny8bit/status/1592951036947623936/ according to Daniel Barnes]], are [[PunnyName Florentine, Benedict, and Rancheros]].
* HeelFaceTurn: Were originally {{Killer Robot}}s meant to take over the world and/or kill Sonic, but presently they are content to live in peace and bear no ill will towards Sonic... though Sonic's presence has caused some of Mecha Sonic's old programming to surface.
* MixAndMatchCritters: A mechanical animal variant. Each Scrapnik is a mishmash of various Badnik parts, with the first Scrapnik we get a clear look at being a Coconuts torso attached to the body of a Caterkiller.
* MythologyGag: In keeping with the idea that most of the Scrapniks are incredibly old Badniks from back when Sonic and co. were first meeting each other, their designs are based on the cartoonier Classic-era Badniks rather than the sleeker, modernized designs introduced in ''VideoGame/SonicColors''.
* {{Portmanteau}}: Scrapnik is one based on "Scrap" and "Badnik," as they are all scrapped Eggman robots who previously went against Sonic, but have now taken on an idyllic life of solitude. It's also one half of the {{Portmantitle}} they are introduced in, ''Scrapnik Island''.
* RoboticUndead: What they appear to be on the surface -- rusted with various bits of their machinery and wiring poking out, seemingly vast in number, and creepy as all hell. {{Subverted|Trope}} in that they're actually friendly and aren't interested in hurting anyone.
* SuddenlySpeaking: Thanks to Tails' efforts, all the Scrapniks who couldn't speak before are able to communicate through his Miles Electric's speakers.

[[quoteright:300:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/scrapniksigma.png]]
[[caption-width-right:300:"Haha! Forgiveness requested."]]
-->Introduced in: ''Scrapnik Island #1''

One of Eggman's old [=E-100=] robots, and Sonic and Tails' main guide during their stay on Scrapnik Island.

Some time before the events of the ''Scrapnik Island'' mini-series, he had washed upon the titular island, a land mass made of old parts and machinery. He began rebuilding several former Badniks with whatever he found on the island, establishing a new civilization of robots who were free from Eggman's influence.
----
* CaptainErsatz: He appears to be a robotic homage to John Hammond from ''Film/JurassicPark'', being Sonic and Tails' tour guide of Scrapnik Island while insisting that the locale is completely safe, despite there being visible signs of potential structural collapse. He even paraphrases Hammond's most famous line when bringing Sonic and Tails to the island's surface.
-->'''Sigma:''' Welcome, gentlemen... to '''Scrapnik Island'''.
* CharacterCatchphrase: "Your forgiveness is requested," is used whenever he apologizes to his guests on Scrapnik Island, which he does [[ApologizesALot quite often]].
* ChickenWalker: Like his fellow [=E-100=] "brothers", Sigma's knee joints bend backward instead of forwards, making it appear that he has chicken legs.
* MachineMonotone: Sigma's dialogue is written in a way that greatly resembles Gamma's manner of speech -- fitting, given that they're both [=E-100=] robots.
* MythologyGag:
** Sigma's body is colored green, like the still-in-assembly E-Series robot visible at the Gimme Shelter in ''VideoGame/SonicBattle''.
** Sigma's right arm has been replaced with that of an [=EggRobo=], the Badnik type that inspired the design of Gamma and the other [=E-100=] robots. His right foot, meanwhile, has been replaced with an [[VideoGame/SonicTheHedgehogCD Anton's wheel]].
** Likely a coincidence, but this isn't the first time the franchise had a E-117 Sigma robot. According to a now defunct ''[[ComicBook/SonicTheHedgehogArchieComics Sonic Universe]]'' blog post that detailed the fates of the other E-Series up to E-123 Omega, that universe's E-117 Sigma fought E-102 Gamma and [[ShoutOut managed to infect him]] with a "[[VideoGame/MegaManX Zero Virus]]" before being destroyed.
** Similarly, but also likely a coincidence, a green E-Series robot with the designation of E-117 also appears in the "Sonic Dimensions" level pack in ''VideoGame/LegoDimensions'' alongside a yellow E-Series designated E-113.
* NiceGuy: He is quite possibly the friendliest of the E-Series robots, even when compared to those who sided with the heroes, such as Gamma and ''especially'' [[GoodIsNotNice Omega]].
* OhMyGods: Sigma exclaims "By Jove!" when he has found the necessary drive parts in the Scrambled Egg Carrier.
* SharedFamilyQuirks: Well, more like "Shared Creator Quirks", but Sigma exclaims "gears and starters" when he is shocked to see Mecha Knuckles attacking, much like Belle, who is a creation of Dr. Eggman's alter ego Mr. Tinker.
* YouWakeUpOnABeach: The way Sigma finds himself on Scrapnik Island, and how he later discovers any other Scrapnik who washes ashore.

[[quoteright:350:[[labelnote:Click here to see Past Mecha Sonic]]https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/pastmechasonicsolo1.png[[/labelnote]]]]
-->Introduced in: ''Scrapnik Island #1''[[note]]First mentioned in the ''30th Anniversary Special''[[/note]]

An improved version of a [[VideoGame/SonicTheHedgehog2 previous robotic doppelganger of Sonic]] that was deployed during Eggman's [[VideoGame/Sonic3AndKnuckles successful re-launch of the Death Egg from Angel Island]]. A strong, hardy bot capable of going Super using the Master Emerald, Mecha Sonic was thought to be long-gone after ultimately being beaten by Knuckles.

He however survived, washing up on Scrapnik Island and was rebuilt by Sigma. While he's been living peacefully on the island for a long time now, the reappearance of the one true Sonic causes parts of his original programming to take over, enacting a plan to escape the island involving his organic counterpart.
----
* AdaptationDyeJob: PlayedWith. Flashbacks to ''VideoGame/Sonic3AndKnuckles'' show that he was originally blue like in the games, but in the current day, thanks to being abandoned for years, he is now a rusty brown with only a couple of blue blotches on him. Interestingly enough, the brown splotches make him resemble his temporary Super form when he absorbs the power of the Master Emerald.
* ArcVillain: Of ''Scrapnik Island'', following Mecha Knuckles' attack in the second issue.
* AscendedMeme: After the Scrapniks foil his plan of downloading himself into Sonic's body, he lunges at them screaming, "'''[[https://youtu.be/XNh-OO_xBUc I'LL CRUSH YOU!!!]]'''", as a ShoutOut to his most famous quote from the animated fan series ''WebAnimation/SuperMarioBrosZ''.
* TheBusCameBack: Mecha's last appearance was in the ''Sonic Dimensions'' level of ''VideoGame/LegoDimensions'', which released in November 2016, almost a full 6 years before ''Scrapnik Island''[='=]s first issue hit shelves.
* CapedMecha: After settling into Scrapnik Island, he wears a tattered cape. Even Sonic thinks it looks good on him.
* CaringGardener: The encapsulated sunflower aboard the ruined Death Egg belongs to Mecha Sonic, with Sigma explaining that he's been hoping to actually plant it in soil should the robots ever get the chance to leave Scrapnik Island.
* CurbStompBattle: Delivers a single spin-dash to Mecha Knuckles' back and reduces him to scrap after being on the receiving end of one.
* CyberCyclops: It's not made clear outside moments of extreme emotion, but Mecha has only one eye instead of a visor or a screen eye like Metal. It's most clear after the other Scrapniks foil his plans when his eye becomes the digital equivalent of bloodshot in his rage. His concept art shows that it can move between his hollow head and chest, with it being capable of firing a laser as a last resort (though it doesn't come up in the mini-series itself).
* DrivenToSuicide: During his VillainousBreakdown in Issue #4 after realizing he'd hurt the Scrapniks he wanted to protect, Mecha resigns himself to be dragged into the Death Egg's incinerator, deeming himself a failure. [[DefiedTrope Sonic however, pulls him out with the help of Tails and the Scrapniks.]]
-->'''Mecha Sonic:''' Your freedom is enviable, Sonic. To explore the world at your leisure, unhindered by regret or failure... It must be nice. Leave me. This is what I deserve. My original Eggman directive: Destroy S-Sonic the Hedgehog. M-Mission: Failure. My n-new Sigma directive: P-protect the Scrapniks. Mission: Failure. [[DespairEventHorizon I am a failure. I am worthless. I am trash...]]
* EveryoneCallsHimBarkeep: Solicitations for ''Scrapnik Island'' and dialogue in the comic itself only refer to him as "Mecha Sonic", excluding the "Mk. II" designation introduced in the ''Sonic the Hedgehog Encyclo-speed-ia'' to further distinguish him from his ''VideoGame/SonicTheHedgehog2'' predecessor, who's also named Mecha Sonic. That's not to say it's been forgotten though, as the mini-series' creative team generally refer to him as "Mk. II" when discussing the book online.
* EvilFeelsGood: After overhearing Sigma's FreudianExcuse for him, Mecha Sonic retorts by saying that he feels better than ever after reverting to the side of evil. His PsychicLink with Sonic in Issue #4 proves that he's [[SubvertedTrope lying through his metaphorical teeth]] as he's ''more miserable than ever''.
* FaceHeelTurn: After his fight with Mecha Knuckles reawakens Eggman's old programming in him, he reverts back to being a villain and systematically wipes out most of the residents of Scrapnik Island.
* FightingFromTheInside: Seeing Sonic again after so many years causes his old programming to kill Sonic to resurface, with the end of Issue #1 showing that Mecha Sonic can fight it off. Issue #2 has him battle Eggman's influence, but inevitably causes him to attack Sonic by the end of it. It takes until Issue #4 for Mecha Sonic to be free of the doctor's programming.
* {{Foil}}: Naturally, he acts as a foil for Sonic himself, with their mirrored leg injuries drawing attention to it. Whereas Sonic is still the fun-loving, confident, short speedy kid we've always seen him as, Mecha Sonic gives off the air of a jaded, older and methodical adult that prefers taking things slower. The biggest difference however, is how they react to their perceptions of others being shattered. Where Sonic takes a moment to adjust, but does so gladly and gracefully without as much internal conflict, Mecha Sonic's lack of social experience and reserved inferiority complex over being discarded has left him with more difficulty adapting in a short space of time.
* GrandTheftMe: His ultimate goal with capturing Sonic is to use both the Egg Noggin and the Miles Electric to download his mind into Sonic's body. Due to Sonic's organic body and natural speed, he would be able to cross the oceans and exact his revenge on Eggman for abandoning him. His attempt fails due to the other Scrapniks, but it leaves Sonic with a temporary PsychicLink to him.
* HeelFaceTurn: After settling into Scrapnik Island, Mecha Sonic turned over a new leaf. This is shown in Issue #1 when he tries to catch Sonic but doesn't try to ''attack'' him. However, seeing his fleshy counterpart again causes his old programming to act up, urging him to enact his evil goals. Sonic manages to snap him back to his senses, with Tails being able to successfully remove Eggman's old programming after their confrontation.
* HeelFaceRevolvingDoor: Sigma was successfully able to override his evil coding, but unlike the other residents of Scrapnik Island, he wasn't able to outright remove it. As such, when he starts having flashbacks of his first bout with Knuckles while fighting off Mecha Knuckles, he remembers Eggman's objectives for him and starts projecting it onto Sonic, causing Mecha Sonic to attack him. In the end, Sonic manages to snap him back to his senses, and Tails successfully removes Eggman's old programming.
* HiddenInPlainSight: When Sonic stumbled upon the room holding a sunflower, Mecha Sonic was hidden in the corner of the room with his eye turned off.
* TheLoad: [[AvertedTrope He's not actually]], as he's a very capable combatant, but he sees himself as a hindrance during his VillainousBreakdown. He's only ever had two goals in life: defeating Sonic while under Eggman's command, and protecting Scrapnik Island while under Sigma's, both of which he sees as him having failed.
* MirrorCharacter: Mecha Sonic is one to his "brother", Metal Sonic. Both robots were made in Sonic's image by Eggman and praised as his best creations, but ironically never beat the blue hedgehog. Metal is shorter, more closely resembles Sonic with a more streamlined look, and can match his speed, whereas Mecha is taller, slightly resembles Sonic, and is slower and bulky. While he lost to the blue blur, Eggman kept Metal Sonic around and still sees him as his best Badnik; the same can't be said for Mecha Sonic, as Eggman left him after losing to Sonic once. Lastly, while Metal refused to turn over a new leaf, Mecha seems to have mellowed out due to his time on Scrapnik Island.
* MurderByCremation: {{Defied|Trope}}. At first, he appears to be throwing himself into the Death Egg's incinerator during his VillainousBreakdown, in a MythologyGag to Hyper Metal Sonic's death scene from ''Anime/SonicTheHedgehogTheMovie''. However, [[GetAHoldOfYourselfMan Sonic tells him]] to cut the [[PrecisionFStrike crap]], because Mecha's lot in life is his own decision, and through the help of Tails, Sigma, and the Scrapniks, he manages to pull Mecha out of the incinerator.
* MythologyGag:
** Mecha has a [[VideoGame/SonicTheHedgehog2 Shellcracker's arm]] in place of his right arm and a [[VideoGame/SonicTheHedgehogCD Mecha-Bu's buzzsaw]] in place of his left leg.
** After he's defeated in Issue #4, Sonic tries to save him in a scene that resembles Hyper Metal Sonic's death from ''Anime/SonicTheHedgehogTheMovie'', where both robotic doubles initially reject Sonic's plea and resign themselves to a fiery death. Unlike Hyper Metal Sonic, Sonic succeeds in saving Mecha Sonic instead.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: A silent example, but after Sonic kicks him in the head during their fight in Issue #4, he flashes back to himself happily co-existing with the other Scrapniks, one of whom is one he'd nearly ''murdered'' just minutes before in the present. Realizing what he has done causes him to conclude that he'd failed both Eggman ''and'' Sigma's directives, pushing him past the DespairEventHorizon.
* PsychicLink: Because of his brain download with Sonic being cut short, the two still retain their individual consciences, but are capable of reading each others' minds and feeling each others' emotions. When Mecha is reaccepted by the Scrapniks, Sonic starts crying TearsOfJoy, and states that this is Mecha's doing; not his.
* TheQuietOne: Assuming he always had the capability of speech, Mecha seemingly prefers to not speak unless it's necessary, but it's [[AmbiguousSituation not known if said capability is tied to his leftover subroutines, given he never does so before or after it's supressed/removed]].
* RedEyesTakeWarning: While in his docile state, his eye glows a pale yellow. When he transitions over to his action-oriented mode, however, it begins to glow a dastardly red. His eye remains red while under the influence of Eggman's programming, and only turn back to yellow after Sonic kicks some sense into him.
* RobotMe: Similar to his "brother" Metal Sonic, Mecha Sonic is a robotic double of Sonic.
* ShutUpKirk: Sigma does his hardest to [[FreudianExcuse excuse Mecha Sonic's actions]] by saying he's not acting of his own volition due to Eggman's programming not being able to be fully rewritten, but Mecha Sonic shuts down his argument, saying to Sigma that he was always meant to be evil. Issue #4 quickly makes it incredibly clear he's lying to avoid shaking his resolve.
* SuddenlySpeaking: In the first two issues of ''Scrapnik Island'', he's completely voiceless, just like Metal Sonic. In Issue #3, however, he starts speaking full sentences out of nowhere, both through his own programming and hijacking Tails' Miles Electric.
* TearsOfRemorse: Mixed with TearsOfJoy, but his PsychicLink with Sonic causes Sonic to [[HeWillNotCrySoICryForHim shed tears in his stead]] when Sigma and the Scrapniks not only forgive him for his brief FaceHeelTurn, but also ''apologize'' for not noticing how badly he was hurting, [[TrueCompanions accepting him back into the fold without question]].
* VengefulAbandonedToy: A robotic variant. He mentions in his MotiveRant that he took it personally when Eggman abandoned him on Scrapnik Island rather than getting to [[WeCanRuleTogether rule the world alongside him]], and he wants to get back at Eggman for that.
* WalkingSpoiler: Despite initially appearing as an ally, his motivations, relapse to villainy, and full redemption is the main source of the mini-series' conflict. It's telling that he was the last major character to be revealed before the first issue released.

-->Introduced in: ''Scrapnik Island #1''

A robotic doppelganger of Knuckles deployed to Angel Island as part of Eggman's scheme from ''VideoGame/{{Sonic Advance|Trilogy}}''. His off-color disguise wasn't enough to fool Sonic and his friends, and he was ultimately beaten and assumed destroyed. This didn't turn out to be the case, as he now lives among the Scrapniks as the island's protector.
----
* AdvertisedExtra: When the miniseries was first announced, he was one of the first characters revealed, with some covers and solicitations setting him up as the villain of the mini-series. He only plays a role in the second issue, where he gets into a fight with Sonic, Sigma, and Mecha Sonic due to his embedded hostile programming before being swiftly taken out by Mecha Sonic. He spends the rest of the miniseries out-of-commission, where by Issue #4, [[spoiler:he's helping the other Scrapniks save both Sonic and Mecha Sonic, thanks to Tails fixing and removing his hostile protocols off-screen]].
* TheBusCameBack: Makes his return years after his debut as a one-off boss in ''Sonic Advance''.
* DiscOneFinalBoss: The [[StarterVillain initial antagonist]] of ''Scrapnik Island''. Mecha Sonic eliminates him near the end of the second issue, [[spoiler:replacing him as the miniseries' BigBad thereafter]].
* MythologyGag:
** Mecha Knuckles wears two accessories that his flesh and blood counterpart has worn: the iconic "treasure hunter" hat from ''Anime/SonicTheHedgehogTheMovie'', and a Shovel Claw from the [[VideoGame/SonicAdventure Adventure]] [[VideoGame/SonicAdventure2 games]].
** Mecha Knuckles' left arm has been replaced with the flail-like tail of a [[VideoGame/Sonic3AndKnuckles Skorp]].
* ReassignedToAntarctica: Due to the fact that his evil coding was unchangeable, the most Sigma could do was assign him to guard the Scrambled Egg Carrier, which nobody goes into unless absolutely necessary, just so that he doesn't cause any harm to anyone else on Scrapnik Island.
* RobotMe: Of Knuckles, obviously. Also, similar to how Knuckles is the guardian of Angel Island, Mecha Knuckles is the protector of the Scrambled Egg Carrier.
* SilentAntagonist: Despite every other Scrapnik [[spoiler:and Mecha Sonic himself]] being able to talk by the end of the miniseries in some capacity, Mecha Knuckles doesn't say a word.
* TokenEvilTeammate: He's the only robot on Scrapnik Island whose evil programming could not be overwritten whatsoever. Sigma could only rewrite which area he was set to protect and [[ReassignedToAntarctica assigned him to the Scrambled Egg Carrier]] as a result, but since Mecha Knuckles can't distinguish friend or foe, he attempts to kill both Mecha Sonic and Sigma. [[spoiler:After being repaired in Issue #4, Tails ends up removing Mecha Knuckles' hostility protocols just as he did for Mecha Sonic, implying that Sigma simply lacked the technical know-how, equipment, or both to cure him]].

[[caption-width-right:350:[[labelnote:Click here to see the full team unmasked]]https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/pic_sonic_idw_diamond_cutters_unmasked.jpg]][[/labelnote]]
-->Introduced in: ''Tangle & Whisper #3''

An anti-Eggman mercenary group active during the war pre-series. They consisted of Smithy (a lion), Slinger (an ocelot), Whisper (a wolf), Claire Voyance (a howler monkey), and Mimic (an octopus). They were known for their black uniforms and video masks which allowed them to sync up and view each other's positions and performance. The team was disbanded due to Mimic betraying them and killing everyone but Whisper.

Tropes relating to the team's Wisps and the Diamond Cutters' successor team are listed separately [[Characters/SonicTheHedgehogIDWTheRestoration here]].

Tropes relating to the traitor, Mimic the Octopus, are listed [[Characters/SonicTheHedgehogIDWCleanSweepInc here]].
----
* BlackCloak: Their uniform, albeit worn in different styles. Slinger wore his more like a poncho, Claire wore hers [[InTheHood with a hood]], etc. Whisper and Mimic [[StillWearingTheOldColors still have theirs]].
* {{Expy}}: A high-tech mercenary unit comprised of a [[RevolversAreJustBetter revolver wielding]] sharpshooter, a hulking GeniusBruiser with a ChainsawGripBFG, a ColdSniper, a [[PsychicPowers psychic]], and a MasterOfDisguise? They're basically the ''Sonic'' universe's version of [[VideoGame/MetalGearSolid FOXHOUND]]. For bonus points, Slinger, Whisper, and Mimic's species match their counterpart's codenames[[note]]Revolver Ocelot, Sniper Wolf, and Decoy Octopus respectively[[/note]].
** Smithy resembles Vulcan Raven, being the largest member of the group armed with a Gatling gun-like weapon. His bio describes his cloak as ''Raven'' Black.
** Claire Voyance references Psycho Mantis, both being the psychic member of their respective groups. Her bio notes that her weapon is named Mantis.
** Slinger the Ocelot is, of course, Revolver Ocelot. Outside of his species and preference for revolvers, his bio describes his past as a mystery much like Ocelot's infamously enigmatic background and he even drops Ocelot's catchphrase in Issue #4 of the miniseries.
* GadgeteerGenius: Smithy was the tech expert of the group and created their weapons. Whisper's Variable Wispon in particular was one of his greatest inventions.
* GatlingGood: Smithy's Wispon was a heavy spike shooter [[ChainsawGripBFG carried and fired from the hip]].
* TheLeader: Smithy, who led the group and built all of the cool [[MaskOfPower Masks of Power]] (and the Variable Wispon).
* MalevolentMaskedMen: Inverted. They were a heroic team who all wore robotic masks. Even [[TokenEvilTeammate Mimic]] could pass himself off as more of a laid back hero wearing them.
* MaskOfPower: The Diamond Cutters' masks allow them to record first-person footage and send the footage to others, communicate in long-distance, and talk to Wisps.
* MixedAnimalSpeciesTeam: A lion, an ocelot, a howler monkey, a wolf, and an octopus.
* MysteriousPast: While none of their pasts are elaborated on, Slinger's bio notes that his past and motivations were never known to the rest of the team, not even Mimic.
* ProperlyParanoid: On their last mission, Claire had a bad feeling and had Whisper hang back and cover them outside while the rest went in. Slinger also felt something was off once they entered the facility, given the lack of security. Both their instincts turned out to be correct as it was a trap. Sadly though, it wasn't enough to survive it.
* PosthumousCharacter: All of them, save Whisper and Mimic, are dead by the present of the story thanks to Mimic's betrayal.
* PunnyName: All of them. In addition to [[TheQuietOne Whisper]] and [[VoluntaryShapeshifting Mimic]], Claire Voyance was a [[PsychicPowers clairvoyant]], Smithy was a weapon smith, Slinger was TheGunslinger, etc.
* RevolversAreJustBetter: Slinger the Ocelot was the team's sharpshooter, and his Wispons were styled after revolvers.
* ShoutOut: They are clearly inspired by [[VideoGame/MetalGearSolid FOXHOUND]] from the ''VideoGame/MetalGearSolid'' franchise, and the name of the group is inspired by [[VideoGame/MetalGearSolidVThePhantomPain Diamond Dogs]].
** In case the comparison wasn't explicit enough already, when shown in an old video in issue #4, Slinger gives Revolver Ocelot's twin FingerGun salute from ''VideoGame/MetalGearSolid4GunsOfThePatriots'' while saying "[[CharacterCatchphrase You're pretty good!]]". Likewise, their old base is a dead ringer for [[VideoGame/MetalGearSolidPeaceWalker Mother Base]].
* TheSmartGuy: Whisper says that alongside being the team leader, Smithy had built all of the Variable Wispons and their high-tech masks.
* TokenEvilTeammate: Mimic was noted to be more interested in profit and survival rather than helping people. The audience learned that he was a traitor before they even knew what the group was called.
* TwoGirlsToATeam: Claire and Whisper.

!!The Dark Chao
[[quoteright:300:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/idw034_dark_chao.png]]
-->Introduced in: Issue #33

A certain breed of Chao owned by Clutch for his Chao races. It resembles Shadow the Hedgehog.
----
* AmbiguousGender: As with all Chao, this one has no particular known gender.
* {{Expy}}: The dark Chao is based on the ocassional Chao that appears with Shadow in multiple [[https://sonic.fandom.com/wiki/Dark_Chao/Gallery#Sonic_Channel Sonic Channel illustrations]].
* DarkIsNotEvil: They may look nasty and with the creepy grin, but is an abused pet who's trying to avoid Clutch's punishment.
* NoNameGiven: The Dark Chao doesn't have a particular name.
* TheRival: During the Chao races mini-arc, this one is a nasty foe to Cheese. However, they set aside their rivalry in order to free all the abused Chao from Clutch.
* UncattyResemblance: The Chao is downright identical to Shadow. Shadow appears to be fond of this one.

!!Motobud
[[quoteright:300:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/motobud.png]]
-->Introduced in: Issue #12

A benevolent Motobug that likes making Sonic-shaped topiaries, and also [[spoiler:Mr. Tinker's last creation before he went back to being Dr. Eggman]]. Belle meets it while out camping and adopts it thereafter.
----
* AmbiguousGender: Has no particular gender, although Belle refers to it as male.
* ChekhovsGunman: Motobud showed up near the end of the comic's first year [[spoiler:as a Badnik Mr. Tinker repaired]]. It doesn't appear again until three years later, when it saves Belle from a fire.
* CrashIntoHello: How it first meets Belle.
* FashionableAsymmetry: In its first arc, one of his antennae breaks off and it's replaced with a flower. The assymetrical head design serves to differentiate Motobud from the average Motobug.
* GoodAllAlong: It appears to be just another Motobug at first--until it rescues Belle from the wildfire Surge and Kit started, revealing that it's harmless. [[spoiler:That's because Eggman built it while he was Mr Tinker.]]
-->'''Belle:''' I think the lil' guy might have some wires crossed. He saved me from the fire.\
'''Tangle:''' That's a bug I can get behind!
* RidiculouslyCuteCritter: And how! Amy even notes that ''all'' Motobugs are cute as long as they aren't hostile.
* TeamPet: To Belle, pretty much.
* TheVoiceless: Like (almost) every Badnik, Motobud is mute and communicates via body language.
