!!The Crew As A Whole

* BadassInANiceSuit: How they start out. Later on they can be upgraded to wear body armor.
* MalevolentMaskedMan: All of them are robbers and murderers who wear creepy masks during their jobs.
* MonsterClown: All of their default masks invoke this to some extent.
* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: Played straight with Wolf, who never reveals his name in PAYDAY media, but subverted with Chains and Hoxton. Their real names are and , respectively. Dallas only goes by the alias Nathan Steele in PAYDAY media.
* VillainProtagonist: All of the main characters are ruthless thieves who have no problem with robbing numerous people.

Dallas is a man who used to have strong ties with the mob, but was forcing to go into hiding when he caused them a little too much trouble. Now he serves as the leader of his own crew. Deploys ammo.
----
* DiabolicalMastermind: The second game even depicts him as the canonical "Mastermind", and most of his dialogue during heists indicates he's the most senior of the gang (for example, Bain tells the crew to shoot up the Murky Water Gold Convoy "on (Dallas') mark" in the Slaughterhouse job). Dallas' history also reveals that he had set two gangs against each other in order to profit from it and then went into hiding once the gangs found out they were tricked.
** Dallas is also seen playing the FBI for fools in the web series; at the end of the bank heist, he has Hoxton punch him in the face so that he can pose as a victim in the robbery for the police. When Dallas is interviewed by an FBI agent on what Crime.net is, Dallas pretends that he has never heard of it.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: He seems to really, really dislike the drug trade.
* WearingAFlagOnYourHead: His default mask has an American flag print on it.

Hoxton has always had trouble holding down a job and eventually just became a criminal rather than do honest work. He has made many enemies during his career but that doesn't seemed to have slowed him down much. Deploys tripmines.
----
* BloodKnight: His bio claims that he had constantly fought from a very young age, and with damn near everybody, including "his brothers, yHunteries, rival football supporters, and opponents in unlicensed boxing matches". This can be evidenced by in-game lines - he sounds his most joyful in the heat of the fight.
* ClusterFBomb: With a peppering of Cockney expletives to give a borderline ForeignLanguageTirade at times.
* EvilBrit: Hails from Sheffield, South Yorkshire, UK, and had committed crimes during his late teens/young adult years for pure profit.
* HardWorkHardlyWorks: His bio mentions that he's incredibly lazy, believing jobs should come few and far between, and pay a LOT to compensate for it.
* HotBlooded: Out of everyone in the crew, Hoxton is the most aggressive when it comes to attacking cops and also has a ton of not so nice words for them during a fight, including the use of British swearing.
* PutOnABus: He's eventually revealed to have been arrested and housed in a Washington D.C. prison in the PAYDAY 2 Christmas Album.
** LeftForDead:
* SitcomArchNemesis: Has one with Matt Roscoe, a former member of Crime.net who sold the crew out during the Heat Street mission. After Old Hoxton was arrested, he wound up on the same cellblock with Matt, and took every chance he had to beat the shit out of Matt some more. He even claims the guards must be enjoying the show as much as he was, as they keep putting him on the same cellblock as Matt in spite of all this.

Wolf used to be a law abiding businessman until the economy tanked his business and reduced his source of income to just one client that had cold feet and eventually refused to pay, which caused Wolf's business to shut down and his family going homeless. Wolf eventually snapped from the events and he now takes on multiple personas of criminals from famous films. Wolf's role as the technician of the group is to help keep things running smoothly and make the current job as easy to complete as possible. Deploys the sentry gun.
----
* ForeignLanguageTirade: Occasionally slips into Swedish when caught in a tight spot.
* JustifiedCriminal: While the others mostly do jobs for the personal gain, Wolf became a criminal because he lost all of his money doing honest work and didn't have any other options available to him.
** FromNobodyToNightmare: Note well that it's in past tense- Wolf didn't take his business's bankruptcy well at all.
* SentryGun: An alternative instead of ammo, medibags or tripmines.
* TheNicknamer: For some odd reason, he uses a wide range of nicknames when referring to Hoxton.
-->"Hey Hox! Hoxtilicious! El Hoxo! Hoxtinite! Hoxtinator! Hoxtimo!"

Chains is a military veteran who believes that he is invincible. Chains always got into trouble when growing up and bounced between foster homes frequently until he found his place in the military. Given his skills and role as the powerhouse of the crew his ego is pretty justified. Even when not doing heists he likes to challenge himself and risk his life, confident in his abilities to stay alive. Deploys health kits.
----
* TheBrute: Subverted as he's the Support class.
* ScaryBlackMan: He is the member of the crew who most relies on offence, intimidation, and sheer brute force to complete his objectives.
* ThirdPersonPerson: Chains on occasion.
-->Chains: "Don't go bein' tricky now. Chains hates tricky!"

!Supporting Cast

The behind the scenes plan maker who is in charge of finding the crew jobs. Not much is known about him and his face is never seen.
----
* AffablyEvil: He's pretty friendly for a heist planning criminal mastermind.
* MissionControl: He gives the crew a heads up on approaching danger, important intel and advice during their various jobs.
* VerbalTic: He has a habit of referring to the crew as "guys", "fellas" or "gentlemen" offhandedly.
* WhatTheHellHero: Bain will get extremely pissed off if the crew (you) start killing civilians due to the extra work he has to put in to cover up the killings so that the police can't track you. The penalty for killing innocent people comes from you losing money to cover the cleaning costs.

A former driver for the crew trusted to help them escape during a heist to steal valuable minting plates. Unfortunately Matt is not as trustworthy as he would seem attempting to backstab everyone else mid-heist. He gets what he deserves.
----
* CantKillYouStillNeedYou: The only reason he isn't gunned down for his betrayal is that he chained the loot for their heist to his wrist.
* Determinator: Backstabbing asshole or not Matt will only give up his stolen bounty after a long period of being burned alive/asphyxiated. Perhaps out of fear about the crews wrath but he definitely holds out longer then a normal person ever would.
* FalseFriend: Despite apparently being trusted and well liked by the crew up to the Heat Street mission Matt has no issue screwing them over for personal gain.
