!Hunters as a whole:

[[caption-width-right:350:The Tier 1-3 Hunters. From left to right: Hyde, Bucket, Griffin, Caira, Hank, Cabot, Lazarus, Val, Abe, Parnell, Maggie and Daisy, and finally Markov.]]

A group of dedicated hunters who have come to planet Shear to hunt down the deadly creatures that reside there.

[[folder:The Crew]]
* BadassCrew: Literally called The Crew.
* BadassNormal: With the exceptions of [[CyberCyclops Bucket]], [[HollywoodCyborg Torvald]], [[BioAugmentation Slim]], [[TVHeadRobot Emet]], and [[HalfHumanHybrid Kala]] the Hunters are fairly normal humans with futuristic weaponry and gear, sent up against rapidly-evolving monsters.
* CasualDangerDialogue: They're rather nonchalant about the monster up until they're actually in combat.
* ColorCodedCharacters: Each character class has a color specific to them. Supports are yellow, Trappers are green, Medics are white and often blue, and Assaults are fittingly red.
* DaysOfFuturePast: According to [[WordofGod Turtle Rock]], the process behind designing many of them was to look at old-timey archetypes (such as cowboys, or {{Great White Hunter}}s) and make them futuristic. It's particularly obvious with [[SpaceCowboy Abe]] and [[GreatWhiteHunter Griffin]].
* DwindlingParty: In one of the last lore dumps by TRS, it's revealed that most of The Crew are killed by the monsters and the survivors scattered.
* FireForgedFriends: While the group had some issues early on and once they started taking on new members, those problems were gradually reduced through shared combat.
* HeadbuttingHeroes: Given the variety in the lifestyles and loyalties of the hunters, there's quite a bit of infighting before the CharacterDevelopment set in.
* RagtagBunchOfMisfits: It's an eclectic group, that's for sure. The wiki describes them as "an elite group of war veterans, psychopaths, heroes and expendables."
* TrueCompanions: So far, not a single hunter has turned down Cabot's offer to stay with the group after Shear. Even those with other goals or loyalties, like Val, Torvald, or Crow, are willing to stick with them.
* WolfPackBoss: From the point of view of the monster, they are a boss.
[[/folder]]

!!Assault
The Assault Class is the primary source of damage in a hunter squad, anything looking down the wrong end of their gun ends up dead fast. Unlike the other classes, everything about them is focused on sustained damage-dealing. Each member carries two heavy weapons, (one for short range, the other for medium range) a grenade or ability, a personal shield for getting up close and personal, and are [[TheBigGuy noticeably bigger than the other hunters]].

[[folder:Markov]]
!!Aleksey Markov
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rsz_markov_portrait.png]]
[[caption-width-right:350:Markov]]
[[caption-width-right:350:[[labelnote:Click here to see Blitz Markov]][[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/blitz_markov.jpg]][[/labelnote]]]]
-->'''Voiced by''': Dimitri Diatchenko
The Tier 1 Assault Character. Markov is a deadly cyborg who hails from Mars. He is armed with a Lightning Gun that automatically arcs to all targets in front of him, and an Assault Rifle to deal moderate damage at long range. His proximity-triggered Arc Mines are his most powerful asset, dealing huge damage to any target careless enough to be caught in their blast.

He has an adaptation called Blitz Markov, which sacrifices steady damage for potential damage. The Tesla Gun loses the chaining effect but does more damage the longer it fired uninterrupted and Tesla Mines do more damage the longer they go untriggered. The Assault Rifle is the least changed, with a higher rate of fire at the expense of clip size.
----
* AsteroidMiners: His background. Before joining up with Cabot's outfit, he used to be an Orbital Welder and bust apart space rocks.
* AlwaysAccurateAttack: His Lightning Gun automatically locks onto the target as long as it's in range.
* BloodKnight: He's taken to fighting the monsters well enough that his DeathSeeker intentions in fighting them seem more like a pleasant goal if you hear him talk about it.
* BoisterousBruiser: Very personable, enjoys a good scrap, and is good for a pep talk or two in the dropship.
-->'''Abe:''' Hey, big guy. You ready for some fun?\
'''Markov:''' I am ready to fight... and to win!\
'''Abe:''' Wanna make it interesting? A little bet on the side?\
'''Markov:''' Ha, yes! I bet Markov lives and Monster dies!\
'''Abe:''' Not exactly easy for you to pay up if you're wrong.\
'''Markov:''' This is why Markov always wins his bets!
* {{Cyborg}}: He has a cybernetic right eye, though its design makes it unclear if it's a replacement or an augmentation.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: See DoomedHometown.
* DeathSeeker: Part of his motivation for joining The Crew was in the hope that he would finally encounter something dangerous enough to kill him. Part of his character development is him outgrowing this.
* DoomedHometown: {{Downplayed|}}. He and other SALGE welders founded a colony named Sterling, but happened upon a valuable element known as [[{{Unobtainium}} bohrium]], coveted by the various megacorporations of the Arm. The megacorps hired mercenaries to take over the colony, forcing most of them to evacuate while the few that stayed behind and fought back inevitably fled if they survived. Markov hired himself out as a mercenary and vowed to never let a colony fall like that again.
* FunWithHomophones: When Cabot reminds the crew of what's at stake before a mission drop, Markov interjects this little gem.
-->'''Cabot:''' Okay, we all know what the stakes are...\
'''Markov:''' Steaks... are delicious.
* FunWithAcronyms: Markov's suit is a SALGE, a Space And Low Gravity Environment suit.
* GentleGiant: Ironically, he was too shy to ask Griffin for an autograph, so he asked Hank to do it. He also plays along with Jack's "The Jackal" persona.
* HelmetsAreHardlyHeroic: His suit has a helmet, as it was designed for use in a vacuum, but he chooses not to wear it.
* HollywoodCyborg: Though at this point, it's honestly a good question how many organic parts he has left...
* HuskyRusskie: Enormous and of Russian descent. In-universe it's referred to as a Martian accent.
* IntergenerationalFriendship: With Jack. Unlike most of the Hunters, Markov calls Jack by his preferred persona "The Jackal", and compliments his bravery.
* LargeHam: Thinks of the hunts as glorious adventures, so much so that Hank thinks Markov's the only member of the crew having any fun.
* LightningGun: Wields one. It's even called a "Lightning Gun" for short. Its formal name is the 40-MW Allied Orbital Model P18 "Zeus", and is actually a welding tool. The Zeus is an industry standard for SALGE welders, but Markov's has been modified for planet taming. It also has a chip that detects the comm units shared by all the Hunters, including Bucket and Daisy... which means [[JustifiedTrope it can't]] [[FriendlyFireproof hit the team]], but its targeting system will allow it to zap just about anything else.
* MeaningfulName: Markov is the Russian form of Mars, his planet of origin.
* NotTheIntendedUse: Abe remarks to Markov on how his gun doesn't zap anyone on the team, which Markov explains is a safety feature installed in a chip. Abe deduces if someone were, to say, disable the chip, the gun ''could'' zap people. Y'know, for [[BlatantLies medical purposes]]. Markov sees he must guard his gun carefully now.
-->'''Markov:''' Medical purposes.\
'''Abe:''' There are certain people on the team who hit me with the [[AmusingInjuries orbital on purpose or napalm grenade]]... and they need to get zapped. [[InsaneTrollLogic That's science, you can't argue with that]].
* OneManArmy: He survived an attack from a numerically and technologically superior merc force for a reason.
* TattooAsCharacterType: [[https://cdn-enterprise.discourse.org/turtlerock/uploads/default/10319/84d652f7aaa37850.png One on the back of his head,]] a reminder of his fallen colony.
* UncertainDoom: He makes it off of Shear, but he may meet his end [[spoiler:against the Phantom Wraith]].
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Hyde]]
!!Hyde
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hyde_portrait.png]]
[[caption-width-right:350:Hyde]]

-->'''Voiced by''': Ben Crowe
The Tier 2 Assault Character. Hyde is a gruff, drunk angry man from Mercury. Hyde is a damage-over-time specialist, armed with a Flamethrower Gauntlet to set the monster alight, and Toxic Grenades that deal significant damage to a monster that lingers within the resulting gas cloud. At long range, he uses a Minigun to deal moderate damage.

He had a planned adaptation called Hellfire Hyde, but the expiration of TRS's contract makes its future unlikely
----
* ArmCannon: His flamethrower.
* AxCrazy: Compared to the other hunters, he's clearly unhinged. He seems to have been one as far back as his Chemtrooper days since he was the only one of them who was crazy enough to not wear a filter mask.
* BloodKnight: His idea of paradise? Spending five days on a DeathWorld fighting monsters.
-->'''Caira:''' Hyde, if you could do me a favor, [[AwesomenessByAnalysis I'd like to get some brain tissue sample]], so try not to melt the thing's face this time.\
'''Hyde:''' Oh. But I like melting faces.\
'''Caira:''' Yeah, I know you do, I'm just saying, like, this one time, melt something else?\
'''Hyde:''' I dunno. Asking a man not to melt faces... meltin' faces is what I "do".\
'''Caira:''' ''Fine''. I'll get the next brain.
* CloseRangeCombatant: Not only is his flamethrower short-ranged, but his minigun becomes more inaccurate the further you use it from, meaning you need to get close to the monster for maximum effectiveness.
* EvenBadMenLoveTheirMamas: The verbal abuse from mean E.M.E.T. makes him miss his mum.
* ExactWords: In one conversation, Sunny will ask Hyde not to harm Slim. Hyde takes exception to everyone thinking he'll hurt Slim and claims he's never hurt a flea. Sunny quickly retorts that she's watch Hyde burn monsters alive and enjoy it. Hyde reiterates that he's never hurt a flea. We can only assume that's because a flea burning to death would lack sufficient entertainingly-clear indications of agony for him.
* EyepatchOfPower: Has an eyepatch over his left eye.
* FunnyForeigner: While The Crew has people from a variety of walks of life and backgrounds, Hyde's South London slang is what regularly causes humorous confusion for the Hunters talking to him.
* GatlingGood: Carries a minigun as his secondary weapon.
* GoodScarsEvilScars: Has a nasty burn mark covering half his face, and a missing eye, but is on the good guy's team. These clearly indicate [[AxCrazy how very dangerous he is]].
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Cares a lot about Lazarus, and according to him, anyone calls him a freak gets "a boot up their unmentionables."
* KillItWithFire: His main approach to problems. He even says that it's "all he wanted in life."
* MeaningfulName: A reference to [[Literature/TheStrangeCaseOfDrJekyllAndMrHyde a man unhindered by morality]].
* OddFriendship: With Lazurus. The two of them are fast friends, and Hyde claims if anyone who calls Lazarus a freak, they'll get his boot up their unmentionables. Meanwhile, Lazarus sees nothing wrong with a harmless prank on Hyde, convincing Jack that Hyde's psychopathic tendencies are a result of being on the receiving end of the Lazarus Device too much. Hyde doesn't see anything wrong with pranking Lazarus in revenge, but since Lazarus was mostly aiming the prank at Jack, the two of them likely see their respective pranking all in good fun.
* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: Justified, his real name was classified when he was recruited into the Chemtroopers from prison. WordOfGod is his real name is [[spoiler: Eugene Walters]].
* OneManArmy: WordOfGod is that after [[spoiler: he's stranded alone on Shear, he survives for at least five years]].
* PsychoForHire: As a Hunter, he enjoys inflicting pain a little too much.
* PsychopathicManchild: Fights the monsters with glee, but evidently indulges in cartoons.
-->'''Hyde:''' Oi, [[OldSoldier old-timer]]! You been hunting big game since I was a nipper. How would you rate these beasts?\
'''Griffin:''' All prey is different, Hyde. But these... they're smarter and more dangerous than anything I've ever faced.\
'''Hyde:''' What, even the time you wrestled with the Orion Terrorsaur?\
'''Griffin:''' I keep telling you, that was a cartoon.
* SecretStabWound: While he's trapped on Shear, he takes to wearing a mask to hide the fact that [[spoiler: he's begun to mutate through exposure to the monster environment]].
* SirSwearsALot: Expect lots of F-bombs being dropped by him.
-->'''Cabot:''' You ready for action, Hyde?\
'''Hyde:''' Yeah, man. Ready to melt some fucking face.\
'''Cabot:''' Whose face you're gonna melt, Hyde?\
'''Hyde:''' I'm gonna fucking melt the fucking monster's face!\
'''Cabot:''' And how you going to do that?\
'''Hyde:''' I'm going to fucking melt the fucking monster's face with my fucking flamethrower!\
'''Cabot:''' That's what I wanted to hear! Let's go!
* SoleSurvivor: [[spoiler:Ultimately, he is the last surviving hunter left on Shear.]]
* TakeUpMySword: After [[spoiler: Maggie dies, he takes Daisy]]. If it seems unusual that he's the one doing it, keep in mind that [[spoiler: at this point, he's the only living hunter left on Shear]].
* TokenEvilTeammate: Despite his humorous traits, he enjoyed killing people in the Mutagen Wars and was being charged for other crimes before enlisting.
* VitriolicBestBuds: With Lazarus. The two often prank on each other, albeit nothing serious.
* UncertainDoom: [[spoiler: He lives at least five years after being stranded alone on Shear, but it's unknown how much longer he lives]].
* UnusualEuphemism: Has a unique set colloquialisms from Cockney rhyming slang. Here are a few examples:
** "China" (shortened version of "china plate") = mate
** "Doing bird" = serving jail time
** "Gregory" (shortened version of "Gregory Peck") = neck
** "Peeler" = police officer
* WhatYouAreInTheDark: In Deepest Dark, he's stranded on Shear with only a few surviving hunters. He could focus on survival, but instead decided to kill the [[MookMaker Gorgon Queen]] or die trying.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Parnell]]
!!James Parnell
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/parnell.png]]
[[caption-width-right:350:Parnell]]
[[caption-width-right:350:[[labelnote:Click here to see Paladin Parnell]][[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/paladin_parnell_evolve.png]][[/labelnote]]]]
-->'''Voiced by''': Dorian Lockett
The Tier 3 Assault, Parnell is a legendary soldier who serves as Cabot's tactical specialist. He is a straightforward assault character with no traps or tricks, but his Automatic Shotgun and Multifire Rocket Launcher need to be aimed carefully for full effect. His Super Soldier ability drastically increases his movement and firing speeds for a short time.

The second character with a cross-class adaptation, [[http://www.evolveupdates.com/paladinparnell/ Paladin Parnell]] jumps to Medic, swapping out the Berserker Suit for Paladin Armor. Most of his tools are similar to those of previous medics, like the Mutagen Shotgun that functions the same way as Slim's Leech Gun, or the Generyst Rockets that work much like Caira's Healing Grenades. The Heal Burst functions like Rogue Val's, minus the healing radius, healing only himself for a great amount. Righteous Fury keeps the faster firing rate and reload speed, while losing the self-inflicted damage and adding a damage resistance effect.
----
* ArmorIsUseless: Despite his heavy armor, he's no tougher in practice than the other Assaults since their Personal Shield abilities are alike. Indeed, because the Super Soldier ability his Berserker Suit grants him damages himself when it's used, his armor actually makes him ''easier'' to kill than other Assaults.
* TheAtoner: The reason for his reckless actions. He'll do anything to try and make up for his failure with The Sword and considers his own life a small price to pay if it means saving even one more person.
* TheBigGuy: While this is a given for Assault characters, Abe gives his height as eight feet tall.
* BlackAndNerdy: Parnell has a large collection of vintage (as in over 300 years old) comic books he brought with him on the mission. He's gotten Markov, Abe, ''and'' Slim hooked on them. His knowledge of military history also seems to be more than just practical considering he references to the infamous Maginot line, and recites quotations from Dwight Eisenhower and Carl von Clausewitz. [[http://dropship.evolveupdates.com/conversation/the-battle-of-cannae A conversation with Maggie over his Academy training]] reveals his marks were actually pretty middling despite Maggie's own expectations, which actually reinforces this trope with him since he apparently liked the old-fashioned material but he wasn't as good at everything else.
-->'''Parnell:''' Abe, you read that comic I gave you?\
'''Abe:''' Oh hey, yeah I did. Man, that was bad-ass! Where's the rest?\
'''Parnell:''' Be a new one next week. Glad you liked it, man, I thought you would.\
'''Abe:''' Hell yes, I did. I don't much go in for that {{superhero}} stuff, but [[TheWildWest westerns]]? Love those.\
'''Parnell:''' Yeah well, Sci-Fi Western, what's not to like?\
'''Abe:''' Hey, that blaster that main dude uses, you think they could make that in real life?\
'''Parnell:''' You mean that [[UnrealisticBlackHole Black Hole Gun]]? That thing is super cool.\
'''Abe:''' Fuck yeah, it is! I want one!\
[interjecting] '''Caira:''' [[StopHavingFunGuys I swear to God, you two. It's like being in grade school.]]\
'''Parnell:''' She's just grumpy [[IResembleThatRemark 'cause we don't share our comics]].
* CaptainSmoothAndSergeantRough: He was the Captain Smooth on the ''Sword'' due to his WideEyedIdealist tendencies.
* CastFromHitPoints: Super Soldier mode causes him to lose a portion of his health but gives him enhanced movement and firing speed.
* ChronicHeroSyndrome: A number of the Hunters approach him over their fears that his constant use of his Berserker suit will kill him (...well, faster than fighting the Monsters might), but he refuses to stop using it due to the needs of saving the colonists.
* DrowningMySorrows: He was apparently drinking himself to death until he joined on with the Crew.
* FearlessFool: A lot of characters have talked to Parnell about how excessively and recklessly he's been using his armor, and how they fear he's running into an early grave.
* GeniusBruiser: One of the largest Hunters, but also the crew's chief tactical officer.
* HeavyWorlder: WordOfGod said he's a staggering eight-feet-tall in height which is due to how he grew up on a planet with high gravity.
* HelmetsAreHardlyHeroic: Played straight as normal Parnell, but averted with Paladin Parnell who always has a face-concealing helmet on.
* HeroWithBadPublicity: Blamed for the death and destruction of the ''Sword'', the ''Solaris'', and a large part of Sapphire station. In reality it was a defense and rescue attempt gone wrong.
* HeroicBSOD: The destruction of the Sword and the death of his crew decimated him. He gave up being a captain and drank at a bar until Cabot approached him to join his crew.
* HiredGuns: Along with Abe and Sunny, though they had [[ScrewTheMoneyIHaveRules limits on what they'd do]].
* TheGoodCaptain[=/=]ThePollyanna: A genuinely nice and idealistic figure comparable to a Paragon [[Franchise/MassEffect Commander Shepard]]... which contrasts with Abe's more pessimistic demeanor.
** Cabot takes the role of Captain nowadays and Parnell is fine with being his second-in-command.
* OpaqueLenses: His goggles.
* NoodleIncident: Back when he, Sunny and Abe were mercenaries hired out to find out why a station had gone dark.
-->'''Sunny:''' This reminds me of that time that station went dark? And they hired us to find out why.\
'''Parnell:''' Yeah, Helmet Station. [[{{Dissimile}} Except it's actually a monster this time, not a bunch of rebels with an Armored Unit]].\
'''Sunny:''' I remember Abe screaming on the comm, and then laughing his ass off when he figured out what it was.\
'''Parnell:''' Yeah, I do not remember that as fondly as you.\
'''Sunny:''' It was awesome! Total victory, easy money!\
'''Parnell:''' Only because you and Mason hijacked the ''Glowworm'' and [[RammingAlwaysWorks slammed it into the station]].\
'''Sunny:''' It worked! Why do you always bring that up like it was a bad thing? It was totally awesome, ask Abe.\
'''Parnell:''' Me and Abe don't see eye to eye on that. You about scared me to death with that stunt. We coulda all been killed, and I would haunt you.\
'''Sunny:''' Well, we can all be killed right now, so what are you complaining about?
* NumberTwo: To Cabot due to his knowledge of military strategy.
* PlatonicLifePartners: With Abe.
* PoweredArmor: Parnell's Berserker Suit was the signature attire of the Rage Troops, an experimental division deemed a failure because the suits were likely to kill the wearer. Abe modified the suit so that it only [[CastFromHitPoints deals some damage to Parnell]], instead of outright killing him.
* RedOniBlueOni: Currently the red to Cabot's blue. In the past he was the blue to Abe's red.
* UncertainDoom: He's one of the longer lived hunters, but it's unknown if he survives [[spoiler: the Extinction attack]].
* WideEyedIdealist: As commander of the ''Sword'' he believed his men to be good people at heart. The destruction of the ship and the death of his crew caused him to lose this quality.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Torvald]]
!!Torvald Stavig
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/assault_torvald.png]]
[[caption-width-right:350:Torvald]]

-->'''Voiced by''': Creator/LexLang
The Tier 4 Assault Character. Prior to the events of the game, Torvald was the chief engineer of the [[PrivateMilitaryContractors Ebonstar]] light cruiser ''ESLG Ajax''. The ship, along with most of its crew, met an unfortunate demise when they were hired to transport a monster in secret one year before the events of Shear. The monster breached containment, slaughtered the crew, and left the ship a silent wreck in space. Ripped apart by the attack, Torvald managed to give his robots one final command before he died. "Repair me." Now a heavily armed cyborg, Torvald wages a war of vengeance on the monsters, always keeping an eye out for the one that ended the ''Ajax''.

Torvald is armed with Mortar Cannons to bombard an area for heavy damage as well as an Autofire Shotgun that empties its whole clip with the pull of a trigger. To aid the latter he also carries Shrapnel grenades, which leave clusters of weak points to be hit for extra damage.
----

* ComicallySerious: Deeply cynical, but when Sunny suggests she'll get him a puppy for Christmas to "fix" him, Torvald says not to get him a puppy...
-->'''Sunny:''' Totally getting you a puppy.
* {{Cyborg}}: He's basically a one-armed human torso connected to robotic parts.
* TheCynic: Torvald fully believes the mission is going to end with everyone dying at the hands of the monsters and refuses to accept any kind of optimism. As [[ThePollyanna Sunny]] puts it, his "negative attitude has a negative attitude".
* DoomyDoomsOfDoom: "Doom" is pretty much his {{Catchphrase}} and pops up often in combat.
* EatingMachine: Of the cyborg variety. As you can clearly tell, he's mostly mechanical now, but he puts away food nonetheless. As he explains it, the food is burned in his fusion reactor, which keeps him going.
* TheEngineer: As an Ebonstar soldier, though he's since abandoned his tools for weapons.
* GeniusBruiser: He was the chief technical officer aboard a spaceship before he was [[WeCanRebuildHim rebuilt.]]
* HalfTheManHeUsedToBe: At the claws of a monster, hence his cyborg status. He later suffers this ''again'' after his first fight with a monster.
* HiddenDepths: According to the lore megathread, "[[https://talk.turtlerockstudios.com/t/evolve-timeline-lore-info-megathread/51220/4 He was an all-pro Ultimate Frisbee champion in his younger years.]]" It's up to you how seriously you decide to take that.
* InsistentTerminology: When Sunny calls him the [[SarcasmMode "nicest, brooding, doom-driven metal Swede on this ship"]], Torvald corrects that he's Norwegian.
* ItsPersonal: The monsters killed his crew, destroyed his ship, and left him crippled.
* KnightInSourArmor: He fights on despite believing that they will fail.
* MeaningfulName: Torvald is derived from Thor, who meets his end in the myths fighting against a monster he swore to kill.
* PrivateMilitaryContractors: He was an Ebonstar engineer until he severed ties to hunt down the monsters.
* RoaringRampageOfRevenge: He shows no signs of ever dropping his vendetta against the monsters.
* ScarsAreForever: His remaining torso is covered in scars from the attack that nearly killed him.
* ShoulderCannon: His mortars are mounted on his jetpack in this style.
* SourSupporter: Expresses his belief that no one's going to get off Shear, but hunts with the crew nonetheless.
* TheStoic: His voice rarely ever changes from a monotone.
* StoryboardBody: His remaining flesh is covered in tattoos. He got them after becoming a cyborg as a way of remembering his crew.
* SwissArmyAppendage: His cybernetic arm contains the laser designator for his mortars.
* TerseTalker: When other words might do, he'll often say just yes or no.
* TragicKeepsake[=/=]StoryboardBody: His torso's covered in runic tattoos.
-->'''Abe:''' What's up with the tattoos, Metal Man? You get them done after you got ripped in half?\
'''Torvald:''' Yes. The men on my ship...\
'''Abe:''' This is the ''Ajax'' we're talking about.\
'''Torvald:''' Yes. They all got tattoos the first time we dove into Cherenkov space. I did not. I thought it childish.\
'''Abe:''' Then they all died.\
'''Torvald:''' Yes.\
'''Abe:''' And you figured, maybe this was a good way to remember them.\
'''Torvald:''' Yes. You understand things well, Abraham. You are more than you seem.\
'''Abe:''' Ain't we all?\
'''Torvald:''' Yes.
* UncertainDoom: When TRS's contract expired, he was one of the only hunters whose storyline wasn't revealed in the last-minute infodump. As such, he could survive the whole story or die five minutes after the evacuation.
* WalkingShirtlessScene: Proudly walks into the hunt showcasing his shirtless tattooed human parts. [[http://dropship.evolveupdates.com/conversation/cyborg-pants A conversation with Jack]] has him admit he never really thought about how he's technically naked now until Jack mentioned it.
* WeCanRebuildHim: Most of his body was lost in a monster attack on Shear. He commanded his robots to rebuild him, and the autodocs improvised in parts of attack drones.

[[folder:Lennox]]
!!Ida Lennox
[[quoteright:280:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/evolve_lennox.png]]
[[caption-width-right:280:Lennox]]

-->'''Voiced by''': Mary Chris Wall
The tier 5 Assault class is Ida Lennox and her MiniMecha, the Thunderchild. Ida Lennox is a {{Cool Old Lady}} and engineer that designed and built up the entire Shear Colony, especially the Broken Hill mines area. Lennox is a genius, having built her Thunder Child armor in three days to allow her to battle the monsters. Lennox is the only Melee hunter, and the only female assault. Her Plasma Lance multiplies damage with each consecutive hit. To close the distance Lennox has her anti-air Auto Cannon and takes a page out of Goliath's book with her own leapsmash, the Thunderstrike
----
* ActionMom: She fights giant monsters in a minimecha, what more do you need? The mom part is less obvious, as there's only a single line of dialogue that indicates she's a parent.
* ActionSurvivor: She's no soldier or hunter, just an engineer.
* ArmCannon: The Autocannon.
* BadassBookworm: Named her PoweredArmor after the HMS ''Thunderchild'' from Literature/TheWarOfTheWorlds.
* CharacterDeath: [[spoiler: She dies sometime after the hunters are stranded on Shear.]]
* CloseRangeCombatant: The Plasma Lance is a melee weapon and Thunderstrike is meant to close with the monster. Her autocannon is a ranged option but is not meant to be the focus.
* CripplingOverspecialization: Surprisingly for a Hunter, her kit makes her great for dealing with the melee-focused monsters such as the Goliath, but she's much less effective against much more evasive or long-ranged monsters such as the Kraken.
* EccentricMillionaire
* GadgeteerGenius: She designed the Shear Colony and built her armor. Basically, she's this setting's ComicBook/IronMan.
* GeniusBruiser: Definitely qualifies, having built her own suit and designed the broken hill mines, a long with bringing the fight to the monsters directly.
* MeaningfulName: She gave one to her armor. See BadassBookworm above.
* MiniMecha: Her Thunderchild Armor, which allows her to use melee attacks against the monster
* ParentsAsPeople: She's arrogant and prefers to let children handle themselves without parental interference.
* PoweredArmor: Wears one of her own design.
* RuleOfSymbolism: Named her suit after the HMS ''Thunderchild'' from Literature/TheWarOfTheWorlds, which rammed itself into a Martian Walker, the first time the humans managed to fight back.

!!Trapper

The Tier 1 Trapper class is the duo of Maggie and her faithful pet Trapjaw Daisy. Maggie uses a Harpoon Mine Launcher and a Machine Pistol in combat. Her pet trapjaw, Daisy, can track the monster by smell and can revive incapacitated hunters. In Hunt mode, hunters would be well-advised to [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zqok_iq4-Z4 Follow the Daisy Daisy Daisy]].

She has an adaptation called [[https://cdn.discourse.org/turtlerock/uploads/default/original/3X/e/3/e3b65192cb041be51dbdaa5b3f1698b0945ec6d6.png Wasteland Maggie]], which is heavily damage focused. The Burst Pistol loses its continuous fire capabilities but gains a fire DOT, the Fire Harpoon Mine can now only have one out at a time but does damage as long as it's in, and Daisy has less health but gains a short range flamethrower.
!!In General
* ActionSurvivor: Recognized as one by Hank. She survived 2 years on [[DeathWorld Factor]] after the monsters invaded as part of a dwindling group, until only she and Daisy remained. Eventually escaped by fixing an evac transport by herself.
* AllAnimalsAreDogs: Trapjaws apparently have packs and act very doglike by barking toward stuff of interest and licking you to make you feel better.
* AmbiguouslyBrown: Unlike the Russian-descended, appropriately-named and heavily-accented Markov or the only-barely-subtler Norwegian Torvald with his runic tattoos, Maggie's background a bit harder to place. A conversation with Bucket (asking about the name "Ruva" that she refers to Daisy by sometimes) reveals that she knows a smattering of Shona words from her grandmother, who was a colonist from the "Pan-African Union", meaning her ancestors were probably from Zimbabwean somewhere up the line.
* BigFriendlyDog: Daisy, to the point that her revive animation is her licking you.
* BilingualBonus: Maggie has a few lines in Shona.
* CanineCompanion: Daisy was Maggie's sole companion before the game begins.
* CharacterDeath: [[spoiler:She dies sometime after the evacuation of Shear.]]
* DoomedHometown: Maggie hails from Factor, one of the first planets to fall to the monsters.
* FacialMarkings: The facepaint she wears used to be the markings of a gang she was in as a teenager, the Trapjaws. Now it's just a reminder of something she never got the chance to outgrow.
* EvilDetectingDog: When she knows the monster is nearby, Daisy starts barking and pointing at it.
* ScarilyCompetentTracker: Played with: Maggie is the best trapper for finding the monster in the early game, but has trouble actually pinning down its location especially if it's on the move.
* SpannerInTheWorks: Daisy can become this for the monster, as she is able to revive other Hunters and also needs to be killed for all Hunters to be considered dead.
* SurvivorGuilt: Has shades of this, given that she saw an entire world and everyone she knew swallowed up by giant beasties
* TeamPet: Daisy. Tamed version of an aggressive wild animal? Mannerisms of a BigFriendlyDog? Fearlessly runs into danger to revive fallen allies? Check, check, and check.
* TheBeastmaster: Maggie, of course.
* TrapMaster: Maggie fits this better than any other Trapper, with her Harpoon Traps capable of sealing a monster in place but have an arm time, requiring more foresight.
* TheyHaveTheScent: This is Daisy's basic purpose.
!!Wasteland Maggie
* KillItWithFire: Everything she has deals fire damage.

-->'''Voiced by''': Creator/JBBlanc
The Tier 2 Trapper class is Griffin Hallsey, the most famous big game hunter in the arm. Griffin is a passive tracker who plants Sound Spikes that will track the monster's movement within a certain radius. In combat, he can pull the monster toward himself with a Harpoon Launcher, or deal consistent damage with a low-recoil Gauss SMG.

He has an adaptation called Electro Griffin, which is based on his portrayal in an in-universe movie. The Laser Storm has a much wider spread and a smaller clip but applies stasis with every shot. The Final Lockdown harpoon gun has a shorter range but does damage as long as it's in. The Sound Spikes have a smaller radius but can now detect sneaking monsters.
----
* BloodKnight: Griffin doesn't hunt for the "sport", but rather the challenge of facing a deadly creature.
* CelebrityIsOverrated: He ''hates'' his own celebrity as a big game hunter. A large part of this is because he never saw a dime for any of the movies, comics, or cartoons.
** FanHater: Or at least, he hates when people gush over him, or take his movies as fact. It's the hunt that's more important to him.
* CharacterDeath: [[spoiler: He dies sometime after the evacuation of Shear.]]
* DirtyOldMan: [[http://xboxclips.com/xE1NSTE1Nx2049/ead3461f-2982-4769-b140-6dca7179dffa Implied]] in one dropship conversation.
* EnemyDetectingRadar: The Sound Spikes do this once placed as any monster which walks into the large radius shows up on the hud.
* FamedInStory: He has a massive fanbase, and he hates every bit of it.
* GlorySeeker: Specifically, Griffin's on the monster hunt so that people will remember him and not the actor that played him in the movies.
* GreatWhiteHunter: They make horror movies about the stuff on Griffin's wall, and he hunts all of it for the fun of it.
* HarpoonGun: Griffin carries a Harpoon Gun as his primary form of restraint.
* HotBloodedSideburns: Griffin has the most impressive facial hair in the group, boasting a huge set of muttonchops.
* NoSelfBuffs: His HarpoonGun prevents the monster from effectively moving away from him. However, it does pretty much nothing if they were already moving ''toward'' him (and even if it did, the monsters would just broke the tether of his harpoon by attacking it on their approach to him anyway).

-->'''Voiced by''': Creator/MatthewMercer
The Tier 3 Trapper class is Abe, a former intergalactic bounty hunter and a good friend of Parnell. Abe has a Tracking Dart pistol which can tag both monsters and wildlife, as well as Stasis Grenades and a Custom Shotgun with a smart choke, capable of firing either slug rounds when firing slowly or buckshot with a rapid button press.

As of the Overpowered update, he has an adaptation called Renegade Abe that, for the first time in the game, makes a cross-class jump to Assault. The Penitance shotgun can alternate between a poison DOT fire or standard projectiles. The Nerve Toxin Dart deals damage and increases all damage the target takes, while the Corrosive Grenade reduces the damage output of monsters within its AOE.
----
* TheAtoner: Deeply regrets some of his actions. [[spoiler:Particularly the murder of an innocent man that made him a wanted man in Hub.]]
* BadassNormal: Even among the other mostly-human Hunters. Described as such by the devs:
-->He doesn't have some exotic pet helping him track prey, nor is he some grizzled vet that's eager for his next big hunt. He's just really tricky.
* BountyHunter: Though according to him, it "Sucks balls," and would rather do something more impressive, like planet taming or serving with Parnell.
* CaptainSmoothAndSergeantRough: The Sergeant Rough on the ''Sword''. According to him, if he didn't serve this role someone would inevitably make a mistake and let Parnell down. The problem being not that someone screwed up, but that if it got someone killed [[WideEyedIdealist Parnell]] would end up [[CynicismCatalyst killing them for it]].
* CharacterDeath: [[spoiler: He dies sometime after the hunters are stranded on Shear.]]
* TheCynic: His [[http://evolve.wikia.com/wiki/Abe_the_Trapper_-_Short_Story short story]] shows him as such. He doesn't really expect the best of people, and this colors most of his interactions with his old crew.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: His father hates him, and he can't go back to hub because he murdered a rather important man. A conversation between Hank and Parnell has Parnell that insist if a sudden fight between Slim and Abe broke out, Abe would surely win it because while Slim's might be a genetically-enhanced soldier, he's not a killer...unlike Abe.
* DeadpanSnarker: Most of the time.
* FantasticRacism: According to Slim, who is a HalfHumanHybrid spliced with insects, Abe has this towards him.
* TheGadfly: He likes to make jokes at other people's expense sometimes, but knowing his character, it's unlikely that it's mean-spirited. He just thinks it's funny.
* GeniusBruiser: The man actually owns a blueprint on how to make grenades that warp time, implying that he makes them. That, or he has a good fabricator on hand.
* HiredGuns: Along with Parnell and Sunny.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He can be pretty abrasive, though it's usually for a good cause - i.e, keeping the men on a starship in good shape. He's also genuinely capable of empathy and regret as well, so there's that. All that considered, it's best not to be on the business end of his custom shotgun. Best shown [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=42MwbI8KiA0&index=6&list=PL6OvqbESZlk671B5Wm0PBpkoITI4sbhYB in this Dropship conversation]] with Caira.
* MrFixit: A mild version - he's a rather talented tinkerer. He found a jetpack large and powerful enough to move around Markov's considerable weight, and fixed Parnell's Rage Trooper suit's injection system so that it only 'hurt like hell' as opposed to outright killing him. It should be noted, this means Abe managed to fix a problem that led to an entire division of in-universe military troops getting scrapped.
* NumberTwo: He served as this to Parnell on the ''Sword''.
* OnlyInItForTheMoney: His motivation for participating. That, and Parnell's an old friend of his.
* PlatonicLifePartners: With Parnell.
* RedOniBlueOni: On the ''Sword'', he was the red to Parnell's blue.
* SirSwearsALot: The [[AllThereInTheManual supplemental stories]] reveal him as this. He's not as bad as Hyde is with regards to this trope in hunts, but he's still pretty liable to belt out "motherfucker" toward the monsters.
-->"You messed with the wrong motherfuckers, motherfucker!"
* TheWatson: Asks Caira (at least twice) how various bits of technology in-setting work. Which is interesting, considering his MrFixit tendencies. He's not stupid about technology, not by any means, he probably just wants the chance to work with one.
* WellDoneSonGuy: Not particularly obvious, but he regrets how his actions have sullied his father's opinion of him.
* YouCantGoHomeAgain: Abe is legally banned from Hub. Cabot has offered once the mission is done to pull some strings with his connections to get Abe into Hub unnoticed so he can visit his father.
* YouWillNotEvadeMe: Out of all the Trappers, Abe is the least effective at locating the monster in the first place unless the monster happens to eat the wildlife he's tagged with a tracking dart which will require the monster to have taken the time to head over to where the Hunters were. Out of all of the Trappers ''after'' the monster has been already cornered however, Abe is hardest for the monsters to keep away from after the dome collapses since his tracking darts will show the entire team where they are exactly and his amble amounts of Stasis grenades will slow them as they try to make distance while they wait out the tracking dart, which Abe can just apply to them ''again'' whenever he gets direct sight of them.
!!Abe
* RevolversAreJustBetter: Both of his guns are revolvers of some kind. His Tracking Dart Pistol appears to have a revolver cylinder, which fits well with his cowboy aesthetic. On top of that, his shotgun also uses a revolver mechanism, with an aesthetic vaguely reminiscent of that gun from Film/BladeRunner or the top-break revolver shotguns of VideoGame/{{Borderlands}}.
* ShortRangeShotgun: Played both ways: when fired slowly, the shotgun fires slugs with very good accuracy; when fired quickly, it fires shot with a wide spread. Both have about the same damage potential on a shot-for-shot basis, but at short range the higher firing rate will result in more damage per second.
* ShotgunsAreJustBetter: His Custom Shotgun is this in spades. The faster you fire it the wider the spread, allowing you to land at least a few shots even if you don't have time to properly aim.
* SpaceCowboy: Has the demeanor, the weaponry, (see above) and the Hat.
!!Renegade Abe
* DamageIncreasingDebuff: The Nerve Toxin Dart.
* PoisonedWeapons: The Penitance shotgun can fire poisonous rounds, and the Nerve Toxin Dart deals damage over time.
* RoaringRampageOfRevenge: After [[spoiler: Caira's]] death he made the switch to assault to get revenge on the monsters.
* RevolversAreJustBetter: The Penitance shotgun and Nerve Toxin Dart keep the models of the Custom Shotgun and Tracking Dart gun respectively.
* ShotgunsAreJustBetter: Capable of dealing high damage quickly or slowly depending on how you use it.

[[caption-width-right:350:Crow and his "tamed" Batray, Gobi]]

-->'''Voiced by''': Mighet Matanane
The Tier 4 Trapper Character. Crow retired to the wilds of [[DeathWorld Shear]], hoping to be left alone. His primary weapon is the Kinetic Rifle, which can charge shots to damage the monster's health through armor. To restrict its movement he also has a Stasis Rifle, which slows the movements of the target. To track it, Gobi allows him to detect any wildlife within a certain area of its flight path.
----
* AerithAndBob: Khovalyg is a traditional Mongolian name his parents gave him to keep family tradition alive. And yet, they name his younger brother Frank. Crow insists it's a good name.
* ArmorPiercingAttack: Does this to the Monsters. When charged, his rifle can ignore the monster's armor entirely, directly injuring it.
* TheBeastmaster: Subverted. Gobi isn't actually tame, as there are no tame batrays. Gobi's "helmet" is actually a neotenic simulator, which makes him more compliant. As Crow puts it:
-->'''Crow:''' Makes him think, um, I'm his mum.
* DullSurprise: Due to his stoicism, his tone of voice is the same while dodging fire and lightning as it is commenting about mealtime.
* {{Expy}}: One of [[Videogame/{{Borderlands}} Mordecai]].
* FantasticallyIndifferent: He seems able to completely ignore [[HalfHumanHybrid Kala]]'s look, to the point that she's confused when he doesn't even seem to realize there's something wrong with her when she asks.
* InTheHood: Wears a hood fashioned from Blitzleopard skin.
* LiteralMinded: Extends to him having NoSocialSkills. He takes everything his fellows say very literally and couldn't tell [[SarcasmBlind sarcasm]], jokes or seriousness from one another.
* NotSoStoic: He does get in on teasing the other hunters occasionally.
* RetiredBadass: This man used to scout out planets on his lonesome...and then he retired on Shear. Yeah...he's necessarily out of retirement now.
* TerseTalker: He's not exactly a talkative individual.
* TheStoic: Years alone have gradually robbed him of the ability to express much emotion.
* UncertainDoom: Like Torvald, he's one of the only hunters whose fate wasn't revealed in the last-minute infodump.

[[caption-width-right:280:The Jackal]]

-->'''Voiced by''': A.J. [=LoCascio=]
The Tier 5 Trapper Character. Jack is a plucky young inventor and the only Shear native among the hunters. He is also a bit insecure about his abilities and masks this fact by acting as the confidant and bad ass hero "The Jackal". He has two sets of pistols, a satellite tracking beacon that points out the monsters footprints and the ability to project a force beam that halts the monster from heading in a certain direction.
----
* TheBabyOfTheBunch: Sunny might be pretty young but she's at least around 19. Jack is even younger so plenty of The Crew didn't think he'd be very useful in a hunt, most of the team finds "The Jackal" persona he tries to put on annoying and [[CasanovaWannabe almost all of the team's ladies have to deal with him being interested in them]] (he doesn't even have a chance with Sunny). [[spoiler:Except for Lennox...because she's his mom.]]
* BrattyHalfPint: He fashions himself a hero and gets on the team's nerves.
* CasanovaWannabe: He has eyes for just about every woman on the team.
* GadgeteerGenius: In addition to being a lucky scavenger, he's also able to construct his gadgets and somehow managed to install a demon-core inside Emet. [[spoiler:LikeParentLikeChild.]]
* TheGunslinger: Dual-wields pistols.
* GunsAkimbo: Carries two pairs of pistols on his person, which he alternates between. Whenever one pair need to recharge, he just takes out the other pair and keeps firing.
* HeadbuttingHeroes: He gets on the nerves of quite a few hunters. So far this includes Torvald, Caira, Val, Bucket, and Hyde.
* HeroicWannabe: "The Jackal" is his vigilante-like persona.
* KingOfTheHomeless: Described as the "King of the junkyards of Shear."
* MacGyvering: He cobbled together Emet and most of his equipment with what he found in a junkyard.
* MissingMom: [[spoiler:His mother is Lennox. They both know this, but neither are willing to tell the rest of The Crew this and there's plenty of hints that Lennox's idea of parenting is rather hands-off. Despite this, Lennox still expresses that she cares about him]]
* MoreDakka: Carries two pairs of pistols so he can always keep shooting.
* MotorMouth: His mouth goes a lot faster than his brain sometimes, as evidenced by this dialogue with Lennox regarding Emet.
-->'''Lennox:''' Emet seems to be working out alright.\
'''Jack:''' Yeah! I knew he would. People really like him.\
'''Lennox:''' They like you, too. I wasn't sure, but... I guess having a kid on the team isn't too stupid.\
'''Jack:''' The Jackal is... just stupid enough. [[VerbalBackspace Wait.]]\
'''Lennox:''' No no no, I liked where you were going with that. Go on.
* NoYou: His response to Torvald telling him to stop speaking in that absurd voice is just [[http://dropship.evolveupdates.com/conversation/torvalds-absurd-voice "I will when you will"]].
* TeenGenius: He's apparently in his teens.
* UncertainDoom: Like Torvald and Crow, his ultimate fate is unknown.

!!Support
The Support class is the most versatile class in game. Support Characters are specialized to support certain aspects of their team. 431-->'''Voiced by''': Creator/WilliamSalyers
The Tier 1 Support class is Hank, an engineer born on Mercury. He is a defensive specialist, capable of protecting allies with his [[BarrierWarrior Shield Projector]] or dealing massive damage to a small area by calling an [[DeathFromAbove Orbital Barrage]]. His direct-fire weapon, a [[EnergyWeapon Laser Cutter]], deals relatively low damage.

He has an adaptation called Tech Sergeant Hank, which focuses on anticipating the fight. The Shield Charger doesn't apply its full charge to hunters immediately but slowly applies a shield which lasts until they take damage. For offense, the Laser Cannon now fires a continuous stream while the Orbital Drill fires a damaging beam from the sky that doesn't knock back teammates.
----
* BookDumb: Self-professed. When he asks for the name of Lennox's PoweredArmor, and is rebuffed by Lennox that he mustn't read a lot since it's from the classic Literature/TheWarOfTheWorlds, he says, "Most of the books I read got pictures in 'em." This mainly seems to be in regards to classic literature, as he is extremely knowledgeable about more practical information.
* CigarChomper: He loves these things. After getting smacked around by a Goliath, his first priority is to get his cigar back.
* DeathFromAbove: Can call down an orbital barrage to deal some massive damage.
* DeflectorShields: He can provide other teammates with one, [[NoSelfBuffs but not himself]].
* DissonantSerenity: He's seemingly always in a good mood before they drop, explaining there isn't any use stressing yourself out.
* FamousAncestor: His grandparents were the original founders of Mercury, where Hyde comes from.
* LaserCutter: His primary weapon.
* LethalChef: Grilled Canyon Eels should probably not be alive when they are served.
* LuckilyMyShieldWillProtectMe: The Shield Projector does this for whoever it's targeting.
* SmarterThanYouLook: His gentle nature, simple attitude, and rugged appearance belies a vast intelligence. Hank knows Bohrium yields, fermionic condensate, and the difference between a [[TechnoBabble synoptic effector and a subasthenospheric drill]].
* SouthernFriedGenius: He has an American Southerner accent, presumably inherited from his ancestors, and definitely intelligent.
* TattooAsCharacterType: He has [[https://cdn-enterprise.discourse.org/turtlerock/uploads/default/10383/47a512e2f5580701.png one]] one his right bicep.
* UncertainDoom: He manages to escape Shear, but he may have died [[spoiler: fighting the Phantom Wraith]].
!!Hank
* NoSelfBuffs: The Shield Projector can only target other Hunters, but not himself.
* PowerfulButInaccurate: The Orbital Barrage is ''very damaging'' on the monster and it slowly tracks the monster, but the monster can easily escape the attack by moving away quickly.
!!Tech Sgt. Hank
* NoSelfBuffs: Played with. The Shield Charger can't target himself, but the shield burst carries the same properties. After a minute or two, he'll be just as protected as any of the teammates he can target.

!!1Z27FHV047FBPQ40-a "Bucket"

[[caption-width-right:350:Bucket]]
-->'''Voiced by''': Creator/PeterJessop
The Tier 2 support is Bucket, the Laurie Anne's robotic pilot. He exhibits a balance of offense, defense, and utility, able to cover an area with [[GlassCannon powerful-but-fragile Sentry Turrets]], deal consistent damage with a Guided Missile Launcher and recharge the class abilities of his teammates.

He had a planned adaptation called Warbucket, but the expiration of TRS's contract makes its future unlikely.
----
* AndroidsAndDetectives: He served in the Hub Marshalls with Cabot.
* ArmCannon: Played twice. His right forearm has been replaced by a missile launcher with a pistol that will flip out when he's downed.
* ArtificialIntelligence: A Rank Rajat mind, as close to a true human intelligence as anyone is willing to go.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Bucket is perpetually polite and helpful towards the hunters, but he's displayed a vicious streak in the past.
* BodyBackupDrive: The hunter we see is a drone controlled remotely. His true mind is stored in the ship, which also has the facilities to build another one.
* ChewBubblegum: Sometimes says this before dropping into a mission.
--> "I came to kick ass and perform routine maintenance duties. And I'm all out of duties."
* CyberCyclops: Has only a single eye.
* DeadpanSnarker: He's surprisingly snarky for a robot. Exemplified in a pre-drop banter:
-->'''Lazarus:''' Tell me, robot, what goes through your mind before a mission?\
'''Bucket:''' Ones and zeros, in great quantities.\
'''Lazarus:''' [[SarcasmMode Yes, quite amusing.]] But you must have concerns before risking your life, yes?\
'''Parnell:''' Sure he does... Don't you, Bucket?\
'''Griffin:''' Course he does... right, Bucket?\
'''Bucket:''' [[BodyBackupDrive My consciousness is immortal]], so do I truly have a "life" to risk? You Thanatologists must wrestle with these questions all the time.\
'''Lazarus:''' Such questions... we do not ask.\
'''Bucket:''' Oh well. Back to the ones and zeroes then.
* ExcuseMeWhileIMultitask: Since Bucket's AI is within their ship as well as the robot body he's operating, Bucket can do a lot while also participating in the hunts. He's simultaneously piloting the dropship, analyzing the collected monster data, and preparing the evening menu just to name a few.
* GrewBeyondTheirProgramming: A mild example. Intelligences like him are programmed to develop in specific ways in response to events and time, mimicking a true human mind. WordOfGod is that the situation with the monsters is divergent enough from the preprogrammed responses that he's begun to change on his own.
* HomingProjectile: His Rockets can be guided by the reticle.
* LeaningOnTheFourthWall: Has a habit of pointing out the game's odder conventions, like his inexhaustible supply of missiles, or Daisy's ability to revive him with her tongue.
* LosingYourHead: He used to be able to detach it for use as a surveillance drone. While he can no longer do that, he can still be seen attaching his head before drops. Justified since he's a robot.
* MoreDakka: Bucket ''loves'' his missile launcher. In fact, he wonders why he only has one and thinks he should be made of missile launchers.
* NumberTwo: He was this to Cabot in their previous group. Parnell has since taken this position, so his personal connection to Cabot and usefulness in the ship has relegated him to Number Three.
* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: Justified, his serial number is far too long to be easily used.
* PrecisionFStrike: If Bucket becomes the last Hunter standing, he sometimes drops one.
* RedOniBlueOni: In the Marshal service, he was the blue to Cabot's red.
* RobotBuddy: The team's intelligent robot, who pilots the dropship, stores knowledge about the monster, and can kick ass against them if need be.
* ScrewTheRulesImDoingWhatsRight: He quit the Marshals when they released a known slaver and rapist in hopes that he would lead them back to his organization.
* SentryGun: Bucket can plant 5 sentries, which can deal significant amounts of hurt.
* ShoutOut: Before deploying them, his turrets look almost exactly like personality cores from ''[[VideoGame/{{Portal}} Portal]]''. He also has a drop ship line where he declares "Prepare for [[VideoGame/{{Titanfall}} Bucketfall]]! And copyright infringement!"
* SlidingScaleOfRobotIntelligence: A Rank Rajat mind, somewhere between Average Joe Android and Nobel-Bot.
* SurveillanceDrone: In this case, Bucket's head.
* UncertainDoom: He has a much longer lifespan than most hunters, but like the others, it is unknown if he survives [[spoiler: the Extinction attack]].
* WhatMeasureIsANonHuman: Played with. Rajat minds like him are granted all legal rights afforded to humans, but the bodies they inhabit don't necessarily belong to them. As a result, he could do anything he wants with his mind as long as he only uses the body he inhabits in service of the body's owner.

The Tier 3 support is Cabot, the leader of the team and owner of the Laurie Anne. Once a member of the Hub Marshals, he quit in disgust over his superiors preference for promotions over actually doing good. Together with Bucket he struck out and formed the most famous team of Planet Tamers ever known, reducing the populations of dangerous animals to safe levels.

Cabot is an offensive specialist, looking for the quick kill with his Damage Amplifier or to deal significant damage with a wall-piercing [[MagneticWeapons Rail Cannon]]. He is also able to tag the monster with an orbital Radioactive Dust Bomb, which supports both the Trapper and his own Rail Cannon by showing the monster's outline through walls.

He has an adaptation called Battle Cabot. The Photon Cannon replaces the rail cannon, losing its ability to shoot through walls in exchange for more shots per clip. The Damage Amp is replaced by the Solar Blast, which fires an explosive projectile. The Dust Tag is replaced by Orbital Concealment, which drops from the sky to cloak and speed up any hunter caught in its blast. The Shield Burst is replaced by the Projected Shield Burst, which allows him to launch a projectile that shields all hunters in its radius.
!!In General
* AndroidsAndDetectives: He was Bucket's partner in the Hub Marshalls.
* TheCaptain: Cabot is the one in charge of both the hunter team and the Laurie Anne, and was the first hunter hired by NORDITA.
* CharacterDeath: [[spoiler: He dies after the hunters are trapped on Shear.]]
* DifficultButAwesome: It's difficult for a team to work with Cabot since he's only able to offer his Shield Burst to protect their lives and his Damage Amplifier having the drawback of one less gun being trained on the monster when he's using it means the team is really going to have to be coordinating their attacks together when it comes out - but when they do, the monster's health and armor will ''melt'' under the hunters' fire.
* AFatherToHisMen: The other hunters clearly respect and appreciate him.
* FrontlineGeneral: He's the leader of the hunters and takes part in their conflicts personally.
* TheLostLenore: His wife Laurie-Anne died years before the events of the game.
* MeaningfulName: Cabot means "To sail", a fitting name for a starship captain.
* OnlySaneMan: Debatable with Hank and Parnell, but unlike his fellows, Cabot is levelheaded, mature and treats the hunt like how any sane professional would; with calm seriousness. He never indulges himself into comics like Parnell would or casually talks about dropping orbital barrages on his teammates like Hank. And that's not getting into the rest of his team...
* ThePowerOfTrust: The crew trusts Cabot's judgment unconditionally. When he invited more questionable hunters into their group like Slim, Jack, or Kala, everyone who disagreed sucked it up because they had Cabot's support.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: Well-liked by everyone in the team and he goes out of his way to help them with their problems, including offering Abe a way to reunite with his father and reassuring Jack that the rest of the team will stop mistreating him over time.
* RedOniBlueOni: In the Marshal service, he was the red to Bucket's blue. Age helped him outgrow his temper, and he now serves as the blue to Parnell's red.
* RetiredBadass: Cabot was brought out of retirement by NORDITA specifically to fight the monsters. Most of the Hunters only signed on because it was William Cabot asking.
* ScrewTheRulesImDoingWhatsRight: His superiors in the Marshals released a slaver and rapist in hopes that he would lead them back to his organization, despite the fact that Cabot warned them that he would just drop everything and get out of their jurisdiction as soon as he got out. When they refused to listen, he quit the force and dealt with the criminal himself.
!!Cabot
* DamageIncreasingDebuff: The Damage Amplifier [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin amplifies all damage dealt to the target it is fired on]].
* MagneticWeapons: His main weapon is a Railgun that can pierce through walls. Handy when used alongside radioactive dust.
* NoSelfBuffs: He can't attack and use the Damage Amp at the same time.
!!Battle Cabot
* CoolHelmet: A Helldiver helmet with the Planet Tamer symbol painted on it.
* DeathFromAbove: The Solar Blast.
* {{Invisibility}}: The Orbital Concealment will cloak all hunters within a certain radius.
* MundaneUtility: The Solar Blast deals knock back to hunters, so it's quite common for players to target their path so it lands behind them and tosses them forward.

-->'''Voiced by''': Creator/NikaFutterman
The Tier 4 Support Character. A peppy starship pilot from Venus, she joined up with Parnell's crew on ''The Sword'' at the ripe old age of 14. When the ''Solaris'' incident went down, she survived by hiding in a cryopod. After being retrieved by salvagers, she heard rumors about Parnell going out to a world in the Far Arm and hitched a ride out to join him.

Despite her friendly nature, Sunny's no joke in combat. She wields the Mini-Nuke Grenade Launcher, which deals the greatest damage of any single projectile in the game. For defense, she can deploy a Shield Drone, which shields the teammate that most recently took damage. Rounding out her gear she has the Jetpack Booster, which gives another hunter an extra reserve of jetpack fuel so long as she stays locked on.
----
* AcePilot: Became pilot of the Sword at the age of ''16''.
* AndroclesLion: She reattached Torvald's legs after his initial ill-fated fight with a monster on Shear, convincing him to work with the hunters instead of pursuing revenge alone.
* BadassAdorable: Cheerful, friendly and excitable, and will ''lay you out'' with that grenade launcher. Considering her past with Parnell and Abe, she's definitely at least had to work with people that knowingly shot other people before the mosnter hunting.
* FriendToAllLivingThings: Wants to be friends with pretty much everyone. She will actually ''apologize'' when shooting random wildlife.
* GrenadeLauncher: She carries around one that shoots out mini nukes. It's in fact, the highest damage dealing handheld gun in the game.
* HiredGuns: Along with Parnell and Abe.
* MeaningfulName: Sunny is as bright and cheerful as the name implies.
* MultiArmedAndDangerous: Wears an exoskeleton suit with an additional arm to help lift her heavy equipment.
* ThePollyanna: Cheerful to a fault. She tries to brighten up the mood with the likes of Torvald. In fact, her first thought about his cynical nature is to get him a [[PreciousPuppy puppy]] for Christmas.
* RammingAlwaysWorks: In her stint with Parnell's crew, she rammed the ''Glowworm'' into a space station in order to take out an enemy armored unit.
* SmallGirlBigGun: That gun actually needs what looks like a small exoskeleton to use it!
* TattooAsCharacterType: She has a [[https://cdn-enterprise.discourse.org/turtlerock/uploads/default/original/3X/e/4/e4e3151f174feddd65bfe1b662ec64d74d8b0cf5.png large tattoo]] covering most of her right arm. What it specifically means hasn't been said, but the sword is almost certainly in reference to the ship she served on with Parnell and Abe.
* TwoGuysAndAGirl: Was part of a team with Parnell and Abe as the pilot for the Sword, before the events of the game.
* UncertainDoom: She survives most of the story, but it is unknown if she lives through [[spoiler: the Extinction attack]].
* TheWatson: Often questions other Tier 4 hunters about their backstories,

[[caption-width-right:350:Kala]]

-->'''Voiced by''': Creator/EricaLuttrell
The Tier 5 Support Character. Kala Kapur was a quantum biologist under the employ of Celestial Corporation. She is more knowledgeable in monster biology than any other human alive and uses her expertise to appropriate the monsters' abilities for her own use. She has made her own version of the Kraken's homing missiles, reverse engineered the monsters' armor and created a beam that eliminates it, and created pads that improve upon the Wraith's abilities which can instantly teleport her and her teammates across the map.

She had a planned adaptation, but the expiration of TRS's contract makes its future unlikely
----
* AwesomenessByAnalysis: Her skill set focuses on improved versions of Kraken homing missiles and Wraith teleportation, and also has an armor reducer created from studying Goliath armor.
* BadassBookworm: One of the foremost experts on monsters, using said skills to kill them.
* {{Catchphrase}}: She often responds to questions about her condition or future with "That remains to be seen."
* CharacterDeath: The monster HNA eventually overwhelms her [[spoiler: and she mutates into the Hybrid]].
* DarkerAndGrittier: Coming on the heels of Emet, an explicitly comedic character, most definitely.
* FatalFlaw: Her curious mind and her desire to fully understand the monsters. Slim notes that even with what she's done to herself, he can tell she'd do it again and might go even further if it could offer her more answers.
* ForScience: She was described as this kind of person. Post-fusion, she tries to justify her actions but would still do it again.
* GlowingEyesOfDoom: One of her eyes is that of a Kraken. She's blind in it, but [[ParanoiaFuel something else is seeing out of it instead]].
* HalfHumanHybrid: Half human, half Monster.
* HandicappedBadass: Word of God is that those hydraulic braces she wears are actually part of an immune system booster. Without them, the Monster genetic code will overwhelm her own.
* HeadButtingHeroes: The vast majority of The Crew either distrusts her or has accepted that they will eventually have to kill her.
* InexplicablyAwesome: Caira and Lennox flat out say that her use of the Patterson field equations (which are essentially cargo cult assumption-based ''engineering'' equations) in her recombinant HNA research makes absolutely no sense, and there is no way it should have worked. However, it did, astounding them both.
* InTheHood: Kala wears a hood over her head.
* NoOntologicalInertia: Word of God is if the Monsters are ever [[spoiler:blocked from entering our dimension]] she will revert to a normal human. [[spoiler: Unfortunately for her, she doesn't live to see that.]]
* ProfessorGuineaPig: Spliced Monster genetic code with her own because she needed to test it when it was 'alive' and Monster's were too dangerous to contain. According to her, it would have been immoral to test it on anyone else.
* RedRightHand: Kala's left arm and left side of her face are now monstrous, and there is concern she may no longer be in full control of said faculties, but something ''else'' is.
* SlowTransformation: Kala has done her best to suppress it, but the HNA is aggressive and seeks to slowly but surely convert her entirely.
* TalkingInYourSleep: Does this, according to Abe, who bunks beneath her. What he has to say about it has some [[FridgeHorror unpleasant implications]].
-->'''Parnell:''' [[ReallyGetsAround You oughtta be used to girls talking in their sleep, Abe.]]\
'''Abe:''' Man, I'm not joking. You need to hear this stuff, I don't think it's her talking.\
'''Parnell:''' What?\
'''Abe:''' It's like mathematical formulas and shit. And chanting. And sometimes, I shit you not, it's an old man's voice. Like, a different voice.\
'''Parnell:''' (Sighs) [[YouHaveGotToBeKiddingMe Nothing's ever easy.]] I'll talk to Cabot.\
'''Abe:''' Well, you better hurry. Whatever's happening to her is getting worse.
* TwoFaced: One of her arms and the entire side of her face are monstrous. Doesn't affect her morality, however. [[SanitySlippage So far.]]
* UnstableGeneticCode: Not only is her genetic code slowly transforming into a monster's, but ''the monster HNA is also unstable'', resulting in her use of Goliath, Kraken, and Wraith abilities.
* UnwittingPawn: She studied monster genetic code for years before Hub told her what it was really from. They eventually brought her into the fold but she still holds a grudge over being kept in the dark.
* WellIntentionedExtremist: She just wanted a better at to study the monster HNA, thinking it would make her sick for a while before dissipating. Becoming a monster was never her intention.

-->'''Voiced by''': Creator/CourtenayTaylor
The Tier 1 Medic is a member of the black ops group CIG 9, initially inserted into the group as a mole but intentionally blew her cover early on. Val is a straightforward and easy-to-use character, equipped with a single-target Medigun, and a Tranquilizer Rifle that highlights and slows the monster. Although damage mitigation is her priority, she is armed with an Armor Piercing Sniper Rifle that [[CriticalHit creates weak points]] for teammates to fire at.

She has an adaptation called [[http://vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/evolve/images/9/99/Rogue_Val.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20151221205641 Rogue Val]]. For offense, the Sniper Rifle has three shots but doesn't leave weak points while the Poison Dart Gun deals DOT and highlights the monster through walls. For healing, the Chain Medgun has a short range but can link multiple targets for healing. The biggest change is her Heal Burst, which no longer heals teammates but heals everyone nearby so long as it's ready to use. When used, it heals Val for a massive amount but deprives the team of the healing aura.
!!In General
* CombatMedic: Val is no slouch with her Sniper Rifle.
* DeadlyDoctor: While Val doesn't do much actual damage, she places weakpoints on monsters and makes them easier to track with her Tranqs.
* EasilyForgiven: Played with. Some hunters, particularly Markov, accept her because she's willing to fight alongside them and revealed her nature as a spy. Others, such as Parnell, are willing to work with her but are suspicious that she's still hiding something. Completely averted with Slim, who openly hates her for the role [=CIG9=] played in the Mutagen Wars.
* FriendlySniper: Val is a fairly amicable person.
* HeadbuttingHeroes: Parnell is still suspicious that she may have ulterior motives, and Slim has declared her the one person on the ship he'd want to kill.
* LiarRevealed: Downplayed. Val blew her cover intentionally very early on to prevent this from happening at a bad time, but some of her teammates don't entirely trust her as a result.
* MeaningfulName: Valarie is derived from Valkyrie, which were Norse entities who decided who lived and who died in battle.
* TheMedic: Kind of obvious, even more than all of the other Medics. While they all share coloration, Val's the only one with a bright blue cross on her white shoulderpads and vambraces and an inversely-colored cross placed under her neck. The closest Medic's design portraying it that obviously is Caira, who is comparatively subtler with the blue on her medical necklace, hat's and shoulderpads' cross symbol being duller or the symbols being smaller.
* TheMole: Defied. While Val's main purpose for joining the Planet Tamers was to relay information on the Monsters to [=CIG9=], Val doesn't keep the information secret.
* NoSelfBuffs: Val's medigun can target other hunters, but not herself.
* UncertainDoom: She made it off of Shear, but she may have died [[spoiler: facing the Phantom Wraith]].
!!Val
* TranquillizerDart: Her secondary weapon fires darts that slow the monster and outline it through walls.
!!Rogue Val
* CombatMedic: Rogue Val is designed to especially emphasize the "combat" part, trading the utility from her Sniper Rifle's armor-piercing locations and {{Tranquillizer Dart}}s' slowing effect in favor of shooting much faster and doing damage-over-time with her respective weapon's adaptations. Her Healing Burst also instead heals only herself a lot to help her keep shooting.
* PoisonedWeapons: The Poison Dart Gun.

!!Đorđe "Lazarus" Živković

[[caption-width-right:350:Lazarus]]

-->'''Voiced by''': Tom Mardirosian
The Tier 2 Medic is Đorđe Živković, a rogue Lazarus Man, with an illegal glove capable of resurrecting the dead. Lazarus has a very unique playstyle for a medic, relying mainly on a Personal Cloak to stay out of danger, then briefly darting in with the Lazarus Device to revive/resurrect his downed/dead teammates. While waiting for his teammates to die, he contributes to the fight with a Silenced Semiautomatic Sniper Rifle that [[CriticalHit creates weak points]] on his target.
----
* BackFromTheDead: This is what his Lazarus Device is able to do.
* {{Catchphrase}}: "Arise!"
* CloudCuckooLander[=/=]ShellShockedVeteran: It's unsure just which one he is, but it's implied that he's not exactly a stable individual. He refers to himself by his title rather than his name, he yells "ARISE!" when resurrecting people, neither of which seem exactly like things that a sane and rational individual does. Especially when Lazarus Devices are illegal.
* ColdSniper: As opposed to Val's friendly sniper, further enforcing the differences between the two.
* ComicallyMissingThePoint: [[http://dropship.evolveupdates.com/conversation/many-side-effects Hank asks if there's any side effects from Lazarus Devices.]] Lazarus responds no, it's perfectly safe and easy to operate. Hank, naturally, was actually asking if there was any side effects from being resurrected by it.
* DeadpanSnarker: When he does snark, his voice doesn't change that much from its usual tone.
-->''(After resuscitating someone)'' "If that wasn't enough, feel free to die!"
* DeathIsCheap: His job is basically to enforce this...mostly. ''Eventually'', the Lazarus Device will probably cause brain damage to its recipients, but this apparently will take hundreds of resurrections. [[http://dropship.evolveupdates.com/conversation/many-side-effects And as Lazarus argues...]]that still beats staying stone dead.
* InvisibilityCloak: A fairly useful ability of his.
* JustThinkOfThePotential: He's uncomfortably interested in the monsters for not-purely-in-the-interests-of-stopping-them reasons, though his sense of sanity and safety still has its limits considering he agrees with Bucket that the concept of putting AI in robots and resurrecting them with Lazarus men getting loose and causing someone to try and create of an immortal army (because the robots can't suffer the potential brain damage from it that humans would) is a very bad thing to imagine. He also probably doesn't ''actually'' have the scientific knowledge to grasp the monsters very well despite his enthusiasm, since Lennox's explanation to him on how the Lazarus Device works seems to get him request that she go over it again.
* LastOfHisKind: ...Maybe? There certainly aren't many of them left.
* MadScientist: Seems to be very interested in what can be gained from studying the monsters judging by his reaction to the Wraith Trap or expressing an interest in resurrecting a monster that Parnell insistently shoots down. {{Downplayed|}} since [[http://dropship.evolveupdates.com/conversation/she-knows-how-it-works a conversation with Lennox]] has her explain how the Lazarus Device works, which he seems to react to with a request to the explanation as if he didn't quite understand it, implying he's not really well-educated in scientific matters.
* MeaningfulName: As with everyone and everything named Lazarus, a reference to [[Literature/TheBible the man Jesus brought back from the dead]].
* PunctuationShaker: But let's just stick to 'Lazarus'.
* ReedRichardsIsUseless: Some of the hunters question why Lazarus is bothering on the front lines monster hunting when he could be using his equipment to revive the fallen colonists. Lazarus insists that "it's better to treat the disease than the symptoms," and so is hunting to stop the death.
* RuleOfSymbolism: Invoked one pre-mission drop.
-->'''Griffin:''' Hey, Laz, what's that symbol on your shoulder there?\
'''Lazarus:''' The djed. The symbol of the Lazarus Men.\
'''Griffin:''' Oh, like a cross. That figures.\
'''Lazarus:''' Yes. But djed is symbol of [[Myth/EgyptianMythology Osiris]]. Symbol of death and rebirth.\
'''Griffin:''' I get it. Very clever.
* ShootTheMedicFirst: Practically enforced, given how Lazarus works.
* UncertainDoom: His storyline was never solidified. He either died when the hunters were stranded on Shear, or lived to the end of the story and [[spoiler: may have died anyways in the Extinction attack]].
* UndeathlyPallor: His appearance caused some child colonists to suspect that he's been resurrected and kept alive by his own Lazarus Device. When told this, he says that's of course not it - he's just a pale Serbian.
* YouCantGoHomeAgain: If he returned to Hub he'd be arrested for possession of a Lazarus device.

-->'''Voiced by''': Creator/FrydaWolff
The Tier 3 Medic is Caira, the team's science expert. Caira is a powerful but challenging character, armed with a Dual-mode Grenade Launcher capable of firing Napalm or Healing Grenades lobbed in a ballistic arc. Her Adrenaline Boost ability speeds up nearby teammates for a short time.

She has an adaptation called Quantum Caira. She can deploy Regeneration Fields to heal hunters and Proton Fields to damage the monster. The Neutron Barrier applies a severe damage resistance to all teammates in range while the Generyst II Field replaces her Healing Burst, healing teammates and damaging monsters in range.
----
* BadassAdorable: Very cheerful, full of energy and smiles often, yet willing to burn Monsters with her napalms while enjoying it too.
* BadassBookworm: One of the smartest Hunters in the team, and still able to contribute in taking down the Monsters.
* BerserkButton: Doesn't exactly take too kindly to Jack guessing her age at 30 or 35.
* BrokenPedestal: Caira greatly respected Kala's scientific work before she discovered what Kala did to herself with said work. She is the one most vocal about not trusting Kala and even voted to have her ejected off of the ship.
* CharacterDeath: [[spoiler: She's killed by the Phantom Wraith after the hunters are stranded on Shear.]]
* CutenessProximity: Caira likes Daisy.
-->"Who's a good trapjaw? Who's a cute trapjaw? You are! Look at your waggy butt!"
* DeadlyDoctor: While not a doctor per se, she is often the first person the Hunters go to for health related problems outside of hunts. Doesn't stop her from threatening to napalm annoying teammates or go face to face with the wildlife of Shear or a giant Monster.
* DeadpanSnarker: Not on the same level as Bucket but she can be very dry in her replies to Hunters that annoys her.
-->'''Jack''': Caira Diaz. I am...the Jackal!\
'''Caira''': Uh huh. Nice helmet.
* TheGadfly: Newer dialogues have her threatening or joking about napalming some of her teammates. Markov, Jack, Abe and Hank in particular. She doesn't mean it however and at times, does it simply to get a reaction out of them.
* GenkiGirl: Unless in danger or annoyed, Caira is very hyper and cheerful.
* HealingShiv: She can fire out healing grenades that do splash heal in an area.
* TheInsomniac: Seems to forget to sleep often enough that Abe has to remind her to do so.
-->'''Abe:''' Caira, you doin' alright?\
'''Caira:''' What? Yeah! I'm fine. Why?\
'''Abe:''' I dunno, you look... y'know... When was the last time you got some sleep?\
'''Caira:''' Uh... I don't... Between drops and working in the lab, trying to figure these monsters out? I dunno, couple of days ago?
* MadScientist: Though not as mad as [[CloudCuckooLander Lazarus]], she can sometimes come across as this due to her overt curiosity over Shear's wildlife and her tendency to enjoy her job way too much with absolute cheerfulness.
* MundaneObjectAmazement:
** Doesn't know what tires are. [[TheGadfly Abe]] has some fun with her about this.
** Has also never seen a movie - on Earth, apparently, the custom is that everything is live.
* SkewedPriorities: Often PlayedForLaughs. Caira has a tendency not to care about her own safety in her scientific pursuits. This includes commenting in awe of how the Tyrant attacks its victims ''after she was rescued from being a victim herself'' or commenting on how cool it is to be caught by a ''Chomper Plant''.
-->"Did you see that? Just like a crocodile. Amazing, isn't it?"\
"I'm in a plant. Cool!"
* TheSmartGuy: One of the most intelligent Hunters in the team and in charge of researching about the Monsters when not participating in missions.
* SplashDamage: Via her Napalm Grenades. And Splash Healing too, via her Healing Grenades.
!!Caira
* FriendlyFire: According to the other Hunters, Caira has accidentally hit her own teammates with the napalm grenades instead of the healing grenades on separate occasions. Though with Abe, it might not have been accidental.
* KillItWithFire: Her primary way of dealing damage is through her napalm grenades.
* StatusBuff: Adrenaline Boost increases the speed of teammates around her as well as her own.
!!Quantum Caira
* AreaOfEffect: Both her healing and her damage work by creating an area that produces the desired effect.
* QuantumMechanicsCanDoAnything: As the name suggests.

[[caption-width-right:350:Slim]]

-->'''Voiced by''': Lou Santini
The Tier 4 Medic Character. Once an ordinary man, he signed up to fight in [[TheWarOfEarthlyAggression the fourth Basilisk Rebellion]]. He was [[HalfHumanHybrid genetically fused]] with various arthropods to compensate for the Basilisk Nebula's lack of sheer manpower and deployed alongside his pre-war friends. His dreams of wartime glory were soon dashed as his friends were killed and the reality of the conflict set in. The final blow came when Hub finally defeated the rebels, destroying the technology needed to make him human again and placing a massive bounty on all remaining Basilisk Soldiers. Slim hid from bounty hunters in the wilds of Shear until the monster invasion forced him to abandon his solitary lifestyle. He soon joined Crow and together they hunted a Goliath, attracting the attention of The Crew.

In combat he wields the Leech Gun, which recharges his healing burst by hitting targets. His Healing Drone can seek out teammates and heal them from any distance but vanishes as soon as it's damaged. He used to have a Spore Gun reduces the monster's smell range, but a later update replaced it with the Mutated Adrenal Gland that briefly grants a HealingFactor and added mobility.
----
* BatmanCanBreatheInSpace: Whilst it's never shown in gameplay, his bio states that his reinforced exoskeleton borne out of his genetic modifications lets him fight in the vacuum of space. He also has a second pair of lungs for him to reprocess [=CO2=].
* BorrowedCatchphrase: After ribbing Jack enough to get his real name instead of "the Jackal", Slim gives his name by mimicking Jack's earlier voice and responds, "They call me... the Dragonfly." Jack is not amused.
* CombatMedic: He's actually more combat oriented as compared to the other medics. Case in point: his leech gun, which builds up his healing burst ability as he shoots at targets, as opposed to the regular 20 second cooldown.
* CooldownManipulation: His Healing Drone is almost completely useless at healing Hunters under attack since it's immediately destroyed when they take damage. Because of this, Slim's Healing Burst has much of its cooldown reduced when he shoots something with his Leech Gun to serve as his main source of healing for any Hunters actually being focused upon.
* FantasticSlur: One of the reasons Slim disliked Abe at first was because whenever Abe called him "Bugman", he put more emphasis on the [[WhatMeasureIsANonHuman "bug"]] part. Torvald replies with humour by calling him "Bug'''man'''".
* GeneticEngineeringIsTheNewNuke: The three Mutagen Wars (Slim was in the third) involved the rebel forces of Bode's World using gene-splicing to create special "Basilisk Soldiers" to help give them a chance against Hub's apparently-massive army. The first generation of Basilisk Soldiers were said to be nigh-invulnerable (requiring the Chemtroopers that Hyde was in to be formed to kill them) but apparently tended to quickly go insane. The third generation Basilisk Soldiers Slim was part of was more refined and less unsubtle in effectiveness (since Slim is obviously not nearly invulnerable) in addition to being without horrible side effects, but nonetheless Slim is now probably-transformed-for-life since anyone who could make him a normal human is either dead or detained...and Hub will execute him if they got ahold of him. Val for her part, thinks [=CIG=]9 had no issues with the genetic engineering, they just naturally didn't want Bode's World to declare themselves independent from Hub.
* HeadbuttingHeroes: He ''hates'' Val for [=CIG=]9's role in making him what he is today.
* InsectoidAliens: He looks the part, but was originally human.
* InSeriesNickname: Several of the hunters call him "Bugman". Depending on ''how'' you say it though, it can become a FantasticSlur.
* [[JerkAss Jerkass]]: Came across as this when first released, often citing how he doesn't like anyone in the team, save for Crow and Torvald.
** CharacterDevelopment: As newer dialogues were released, however, he [[TookaLevelinKindness mellowed down]] and starts to genuinely like the team, except for Val due to her connections. He even gets along very well with Abe, Hyde and Lazarus despite their backgrounds.
* LaserGuidedAmnesia: Can't remember his own past, but [[JustifiedTrope better justified]] than most examples.
-->'''Caira:''' It's nice having more medics on the team. Anyone know Slim's real name?\
'''Hank:''' I asked him that. He said something real strange. Well, it weren't what he said exactly, more how he said it. He said he didn't remember. And right then... I believed him.\
'''Caira:''' Oh. Yeah, [[ShellShockedVeteran that's PTSD]]. I should have thought of that.\
'''Hank:''' [[TraumaInducedAmnesia Are you saying the war gave him amnesia?]]\
'''Caira:''' Well, he starts thinking about his life before, he gets so upset he can't function. Eventually, he learns to just... stop thinking about it. He probably really can't remember.
* LastOfHisKind: All other Basilisk soldiers were killed by Hub forces by the end of the war.
* LegoGenetics: His insectoid appearance is the result of his original human self being gene spliced via experimental war science.
* NoodleIncident: Much of his service in the [[GreatOffscreenWar Mutagen Wars]] remains this (and likely will for the foreseeable future) but apparently, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F7XmhuOq80g he's had worse meals than still-living Grilled Canyon Eel.]]
* OrganicTechnology: Noticeable in that he's the only hunter to use this, and that he is, in fact, technically organic tech. Case in point, Maggie asks what he dips his gun in before hunts, thinking it's some kind of lubricant, but it's actually a nutrient slurry. Slims explains, [[LivingWeapon "Grubs need to eat!"]]
* PestController: Slim controls a beetle the size of a football that can hover around a hunter and continuously heal them over time.
* PriceOnTheirHead: According to Abe, any Basilisk soldier is worth ten million keys so long as the hunter shoots on sight. The extreme price is due to it being a Hub bounty, while the remaining soldiers tend to hide in the Far Arm, where most people were rooting for the rebels. He actually gets along better with Abe because the latter notes he was aware of the bounty but decided not to follow through with the "shoot on sight" aspect at all.
* ReluctantMonster: For a given definition of monster. But he has more than his fair share of regrets for being turned into a bugman, saying it seemed cool at the time.
* ShellShockedVeteran: The Mutagen Wars and living alone have left Slim with PTSD, causing him to forget a good chunk of his past, even his real name. Parnell and the others have been helping him cope. [[http://dropship.evolveupdates.com/conversation/damn-man A conversation with Parnell]] has Slim state that the people he grew up with got outright ''vaporized'' in their first boarding action, and the rebels lacked the manpower to rest and rotate him out for the three years they were fighting.
* ShortRangeShotgun: The leech gun has very low range, forcing Slim into the fray. Markov insists that it is a sign of Slim's bravery.
* SmokingIsCool: Slim is always chewing on a lit e-cigarette, even during hunts.
* StealthPun: Considering that he's insectoid and he's Evolve's version of a [[Series/{{Firefly}} Browncoat]], there might be a joke about Series/{{Firefly}}. Maybe.
* UncertainDoom: Like Torvald, Crow, and Jack, his ultimate fate is unknown.
* UnseenPrototype: He isn't one himself, but it's implied that the previous generations of Basilisk soldiers had... [[BodyHorror unpleasant flaws]], and a tendency towards SanitySlippage. Torvald considers Slim lucky to be Gen Three, (pointing out that he actually knew of a Gen One individual who was so messed up that Torvald isn't even sure if he ever served in combat at all) but then, given that Slim's very existence is illegal and the people that could restore him to humanity are either in jail or dead, Slim doesn't entirely agree.
* TheWarOfEarthlyAggression: Fought in one.
* WalkingShirtlessScene: [[JustifiedTrope Justified]] so that his wings can be exposed.
* WasOnceAMan: Originally a rebel soldier before being turned into a Basilisk soldier.
* WhatYouAreInTheDark: There's a (no pun intended) slim hope that Slim has something left of his original self, as he may actually refer to himself by his original name Alex if he's the only Hunter left alive, but at no other times.
* WingedHumanoid: Slim has a natural pair of wings instead of a jetpack.

-->'''Voiced by''': Creator/GrantGeorge

The tier 5 Medic Character. A medical drone that was retrofitted by Jack to serve as an attack robot, his medical and offensive programs have distinct personalities that seem to switch at random. His finger can shoot out a tracker that is linked with the guided missile launcher on his back, he can deploy up to three buoys that heal any hunter in their radius, and he can deploy a beacon that cuts down the time killed hunters have to wait to return to the battle from 2 minutes to 30 seconds.
----
* AlternateIdentityAmnesia: Nice Emet has no recollection of what he says while the Demon Core's active. [[ContinuitySnarl sometimes]].
* AxCrazy: Whenever the Demon Core is running the show.
-->'''Demon EMET:''' '''''[[LargeHam I AM A DEATH MACHINE MADE OF HATE AND FUCK!!]]'''''\

* ClusterFBomb: The Demon Core [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S7tLir6YO3M drops them like crazy.]]
* ContinuitySnarl: It isn't clear whether Emet's personalities are meant to be aware of eachother. Some lines only make sense if they are, others only make sense if they aren't.
* EccentricAI: His default personality is light and bubbly, akin to [[WesternAnimation/BigHero6 Baymax]], but the combat upgrades came with a "Demon core" that causes him to spew [[CutHisHeartOutWithASpoon creative death threats]] and {{Angrish}} at its teammates.
* FingerGun: His Replay Cannon is a literal one that's built within him.
* FunWithAcronyms: His name E.M.E.T. which stands for Emergency Medical Evacuation Technician.
* GrewBeyondTheirProgramming: Cramming together two separate minds into a single being has made him greater than the sum of his parts, but still not enough to bring him to Bucket's level.
* HisNameReallyIsBarkeep: While he is an E.M.E.T. drone, he has been given the name Emet. Possibly invoked as he got the name when people read his vest and assumed it was his name.
* KidAppealCharacter: Averted. The developers actually posted a warning to caution parents against letting their children watch him after several mentioned their kids were looking forward to him. In-universe he was designed so children would see him coming in a disaster area and not be afraid.
* LargeHam: [[ExaggeratedTrope Exaggerated]] by Demon EMET, who doesn't seem capable of speaking at any volume other than a bloodletting shout.
* ManChild: His medical program is kind and simpleminded, very user friendly. His offensive program, however, is a PsychopathicManchild.
* ThePollyanna: Nice E.M.E.T., perhaps even more so than Sunny.
* RobotBuddy: To Jack.
* SirSwearsALot: The Demon Core part of E.M.E.T. is one of the most foul mouthed characters in video game media.
* SplitPersonality: Has two programs within him that have completely opposite personalities. One that's a NiceGuy and one that's completely AxCrazy.
* TVHeadRobot: His face is a screen, and switches between different expressions. Demon Core Emet's always a red-colored angry face.
* UncertainDoom: He survives most of the story, but may have died [[spoiler: in the Extinction attack]].

[[caption-width-right:350:The first three monsters. From left to right: Kraken, Wraith and Goliath.]]
The Second team consist of a monster player, who has a selection of varied abilities which are increased as it evolves. Killing the monster ends the game.

!!Related Tropes:
[[folder:In General]]
* AttackItsWeakPoint: All the monsters have a weak spot that Hunters can hit for more damage. For most of them, [[BoomHeadshot it's the head]]; for Behemoth, it's the stomach.
* BigEater: In order to evolve they most consume large amounts of food, mostly meat. Evolving burns away all that food, leaving their stomach empty to keep eating.
* BizarreAlienBiology: Where to begin? They lack excretory and reproductive systems, as well as a cerebral cortex. They have HNA rather than DNA, which is apparently superior but also degenerates rapidly after death, while at the same time being compatible with any sapient creature. They go through months or years of growth in seconds, a process which is apparently more painful than anything a human could endure. [[spoiler: Add in their RealityWarper status]] and you have something extremely bizarre.
* BrightIsNotGood: The monster adaptations are bright colors like orange and blue, similar to tropical animals. This doesn't mean they're any less lethal than the originals.
* CannibalismSuperpower: Eating wildlife allows a Monster to become more and more powerful and soon level up.
* EatBrainForMemories: Suggested, though we have no evidence this is true - [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NHoHs4Jfg-k Hank suggests to Griffin]] that the reason the Monsters know how much about defenses on Shear is that they absorb the knowledge of people they eat. While Griffin says it's not likely, he says "now that you mention it," implying he considers it an interesting idea.
* EldritchAbomination: [[spoiler:What Kala implies they are. Their DNA equivalent is stabilized by an equation for velocity in a [[FasterThanLight fourth dimension]], from which [[FightingAShadow they]] [[YouCannotGraspTheTrueForm are]] implied [[HyperspaceIsAScaryPlace to come from]]. Worst of all, they are trying to erase our reality because our world is inately repulsive and even hazardous to them.]]
* EvolutionPowerUp: The whole shtick of the game. As they eat, the monsters become progressively more advanced; bigger, scarier, stronger.
* ExtremeOmnivore: Besides the corpses of wildlife and humans, they can eat robots, Generyst laced plants, and refined Borhium.
* GiantSpaceFleaFromNowhere: Treated as such InUniverse, and PlayedForDrama. Nobody knows just what the things are, where they came from, or what they want save for 'kill and destroy humanity'. For that matter, we don't either. In-universe, they're suspected of being aliens, though [[EpilepticTrees players have suggested that they were]] [[WasOnceAMan once human]] or are genetic abominations created for an unknown purpose. However, given that according to Torvald, the monsters killed the government spy, they probably weren't a government project. ''Probably''. The biggest in universe hint we have thus far is the fact that the Wraith creates teleportation rifts, lending to the theory that they are a HordeOfAlienLocusts.
* ImAHumanitarian: For monsters, human corpses are just another meal.
* IncreasinglyLethalEnemy: As the monsters eat and evolve, they become much more powerful and deadlier. They initially start out weaker but eventually become stronger than the Hunter team if they evolve enough.
* ItCanThink: These creatures are, at the very least, capable of using tactics to kill their pursuers. And on the other hand it's also [[ZigZaggedTrope zigzagged]] when there's a player controlling them, they can range from slightly smarter than the average beast to GeniusBruiser.
* IShallTauntYou: The monsters [[MightyRoar roar]] whenever they evolve. The hunters point out there's no reason for this, other than intimidation. It's like the monsters are rubbing it in that they're stronger now and [[RoarBeforeBeating the hunters are in for a world of hurt]].
* MoreTeethThanTheOsmondFamily: Justified, as they're all gigantic carnivores.
* MultipleChoicePast: Since no one knows where the Monsters came from or why, several of the Hunters have their own theories. Caira believes them to be man-made because their genetics include a compound that's famous for creating life, but at the same time believes that it would be impossible for humans to create something like Wraith without word getting out. Lazarus thinks that they might have been hibernating on Shear before the colonists DugTooDeep. Slim and Torvald's exposition on the history of Basilisk Soldiers was thought to be a clue that the monsters are the [[FlawedPrototype Gen 1]] soldiers, but this has since been disproven. The eggs also give off a radio frequency and contain nothing besides fluid until they hatch, supporting the idea that they travel through Cherenkov Space to get from planet to planet.
* NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast: Respectively named after a gigantic and feared [[Literature/TheBible Philistine warrior]], a [[Myth/NorseMythology Norse sea monster]], a vengeful spirit, an [[Literature/TheBible invincible beast]], and a Greek monster cursed by the gods. Not exactly the kind of names found on child friendly characters.
* NoBiologicalSex: They lack the necessary anatomy to have any biological gender. The gendered pronouns are solely because the hunters (mostly Abe) associated their superficial anatomy with that of humans.
* NoNameGiven: While the different monster breeds are each named, they have not been given an overall name or classification beyond Monsters.
* PainfulTransformation: According to WordOfGod, evolving is the most painful thing a living being can willingly inflict on themselves.
* PowerGlows: The more armor the Monsters have, the more of a glow they give off. The higher stage they are, the more they glow.
* RealityWarper: [[spoiler: Apparently, the Monsters are capable of manipulating Δk/it, the equation used by humans for FTL, force fields, and anti-grav. How they do this is unknown, but apparently they use their minds as limiters in place of computers.]] More directly, the Kraken is capable of creating and manipulating dark energy and the Wraith can convert itself into energy.
* ShootTheMedicFirst: As a Monster, doing this is important because of how quickly the Medic can heal people. Also applies to Supports which can shield their allies such as Hank.
* TookALevelInBadass: They are very strong as it is, but evolving makes them even more powerful.
* VictoryPose: All of them have one, usually shown at the end of most missions where the monster wins.
* WallCrawl: Every monster, no matter their size or physiology, is capable of scaling even the most vertical of surfaces.

The first monster type encountered on Shear and the mainstay of the attacking force. Goliath is a melee-focused bruiser, fast and capable of taking quite a beating. The Goliath has [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin the abilities]] [[GoombaStomp Leap Smash]], [[BreathWeapon Fire Breath]], [[FoeTossingCharge Charge]] and Rock Throw. Its movement ability is the Leap. It has an adaptation called Meteor Goliath, which gains a flame DOT on every attack at the cost of immediate damage.
!!In General
* BreathWeapon: One of its abilities is to breathe fire. It doesn't do a ton of damage, but it can be used to reveal cloaked enemies and burn groups of enemies.
* DamageOverTime: The fire breath ability inflicts a burn DOT. Meteor Goliath inflicts DOT with all abilities.
* DishingOutDirt: Is able to pick up rocks from the ground and throw them for huge damage.
* ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin: Its abilities are called Fire Breath, Charge, Leap Smash, and Rock Throw. Guess what each one does.
* FighterMageThief: The "fighter". A brawler with lots of health and good damage output, but lacks in range.
* FoeTossingCharge: Goliath can charge into opponents to deal significant damage and knock them back.
* InASingleBound: Leap Smash and its regular Leap allow it to jump great distances.
* LightningBruiser: He's clearly a tough, melee-focused brawler, but Goliath is surprisingly agile as well, able to leap large distances to escape the Hunters.
* PlayingWithFire: Has a fire BreathWeapon to deal mid-range damage to enemies as well as burning them.
* PowerfulButInaccurate: Rock Throw is ''very'' powerful but requires good aiming, and hunters can sidestep or dodge out of the way from the thrown projectile.
* RunningOnAllFours: Goliath usually walks upright, but drops to all fours while charging.
* ShockwaveStomp: Leap Smash deals one on contact with the ground, causing AOE damage.
* ShoutOut: A huge brute that throws rocks makes it very reminiscent to [[VideoGame/Left4Dead the Tank]]. It helps that both ''Evolve'' and ''Left 4 Dead'' are made by Turtle Rock Studios.
* SpikesOfVillainy: Stage 1 sports a few small ones on its back. Stage 2 has quite a number of larger ones, and Stage 3 has a few large, jagged ones that give off a menacing vibe.
!!Goliath
* RedEyesTakeWarning: Though one probably shouldn't need to check the eye color to tell it isn't friendly.
!!Meteor Goliath
* HornsOfVillainy: Its adaptation, Meteor Goliath, develops a broad antler-like pair.
* TechnicolorFire: Meteor Goliath has bright blue fire.

[[caption-width-right:350:[[labelnote:Click here to see Elder Kraken]][[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ekraken.jpg]][[/labelnote]]]]
The second monster encountered on Shear. Though it's less durable than Goliath, it makes up for it with aerial maneuverability and devastating ranged attacks. Vortex throws hunters back, Aftershock damages all hunters close enough, Lightning Strike summons an extremely damaging but slow to hit lightning bolt, and Banshee Mines deploy organic spheres that home in on hunters and detonate. Its movement ability is an air dash, after which it may hover for several seconds. During combat with Hunters, the Kraken can hover indefinitely.

It has an adaptation called Elder Kraken. A more primal form of the Kraken, the Elder Kraken deals heavy damage at close range. Banshee Missile fires a slow moving high damage projectile, Death Spiral creates a horizontal column of electrical death, Chain Lightning deals more damage the further down the chain the target is, and Lightning Bolt strikes a specified location.
!!In General
* AreaOfEffect: Aftershock and Chain Lightning let it damage anything too close to it.
* {{Cthulhumanoid}}: Has a strong resemblance to [[Franchise/CthulhuMythos Cthulhu itself]], as a deliberate design choice.
* FighterMageThief: The "mage". Has devastating long range attacks and the ability to fly, but is less durable than the Goliath.
* {{Flight}}: The only monster capable of true flight. Sure, Goliath can leap great distances and Wraith hovers above the ground and dashes around, but otherwise they stick close to the ground.
* KnockBack: Vortex and Banshee Missile are great at doing this to clustered hunters.
* LeanAndMean: Lacks the bulk of Behemoth and Goliath, but don't let that fool you into thinking Kraken's any easier.
* NotQuiteFlight: It gets around its size and lack of wings by using carefully controlled dark matter to levitate itself.
* PowerfulButInaccurate: Lightning Strike deals a great amount of splash damage and can be aimed, but it's visible when charging and hunters can avoid it by taking to the air and moving away since the splash damage hits the ground.
* RazorWings: Actually doesn't use its hands to attack prey but rather its "wings", which it swings about like electrified whips.
* ShockandAwe: Mainly attacks with lightning-based moves.
* ShoutOut: Its variation being called Elder Kraken, in addition to its {{Cthulhumanoid}} appearance, is almost certainly one to the Elder Gods of Creator/HPLovecraft.
* TheSmartGuy: In-universe, often considered the smartest of the Monsters according to in-game dialogue. His playstyle also requires the player to be more tactical than his aggressive counterparts due to his ability to fly (thus having a nice view of the battlefield) and having abilities that are easy to dodge but extremely devastating if used properly. This is also reflected in his body language, which is slow and methodical while his fellows are more feral.
** In the main menu and character selection screen, the Goliath, Wraith and Behemoth usually roar ferociously and in-general, being very beast-like. The Kraken, however, simply looks around calmly and even he though he does "roar", it doesn't look like it would be louder than the others. He also barely move his limbs, except his tentacles which are just hanging around or rubbing each other.
** Same goes for his in-game idle animation, which mirrors his main menu and selection screen animation. For the rest of the Monsters, though, their idle animation is them just breathing very heavily and looking around while stretching their muscles. Kraken is also a lot quieter than his fellows, unless he took damage at low health or flying.
** Even his VictoryPose show hints of intelligence. The others just roar into the screen from the adrenaline rush of victory and, for the Wraith, flailing her arms around. The Kraken, however, slowly stood on both his legs and took a deep breath before rising up and letting out a massive roar upwards, away from the screen, while spreading his "wings", which surged with electricity. It is almost like he is signifying himself as the winner of the hunt and the boss of the map to anyone close enough to hear.
* SquishyWizard: Not quite as extreme as some other examples. He has some devastating long range attacks and skills, and while his HP is on par with the Goliath, he has less maximum armor.

!!Kraken
* HellIsThatNoise: The Banshee Mines, which emit the screams of a thousand orphans as they home in on you.
* YellowLightningBlueLightning: Very, very blue.
!!Elder Kraken
* YellowLightningBlueLightning: Bright red, which usually only happens in a high nitrogen environment.
* SkillGateCharacters: Elder Kraken is a lot more close combat centered than regular Krakens, but does not have the durability of the likes of Goliath and Behemoth to make up for the close range kit it now possesses.

[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/wraith_icon.png]]
[[caption-width-right:350:Wraith]]
The Wraith is, in the developers' words, a [[NinjaPirateZombieRobot space alien ninja Monster]] who warps around the battlefield. She has [[FragileSpeedster such low durability that a fair fight with the hunters is plainly suicidal]], but her abilities are conducive to confusing and separating the hunters, picking them off one at a time. Warp Blast teleports forward and releases an explosion, Abduction teleports at where it's aimed and pulls anything there back to its original location, Decoy creates an AI-controlled copy that automatically attacks whatever's near, and Supernova creates an area where it moves and attacks faster while slowing the Hunters. It also has a passive ability called Isolation, which gives it a one-hit damage boost to hunters who've gotten to far from their team. Its movement ability is a teleport forward.

It had a planned adaptation called Phantom Wraith, but the expiration of TRS's contract makes its future unlikely
!!In General
* BladeSpam: Her Supernova ability creates an area which causes her to go into one.
* CloseRangeCombatant: Even moreso than the other monsters, Wraith has no true ranged attacks, with everything either letting her close with the hunters or forcing the hunters into close range. Combined with her fragility, this makes her hard to use.
* ConfusionFu: A good Wraith player makes use of this, distracting players with her Decoy so she can sneak attack, or using Abduction to earn an uninterrupted kill.
* DoppelgangerAttack: The Decoy ability sends out a decoy that can actually attack and take damage.
* EvilSlinks: She moves in a very serpentine manner.
* EyelessFace: Though apparently not blind.
* FighterMageThief: The "thief". It has very fast speed and the ability to warp distances, while using separation/decoy techniques to scatter the hunters. However, it's the least durable of the three.
* FragileSpeedster: Very fast, but very fragile, she relies on HitAndRunTactics to fight the Hunters.
* GlassCannon: Very damaging, but very fragile, yet very agile.
* HitAndRunTactics: Due to the fact she has low health and armor, she's required to use them. Her abilities are optimized for such. Warp Blast allows her to deal burst damage, and enter the fray, while Abduction separates a hunter from the group. Decoy is great for retreating or closing in, and Supernova allows her to do great amounts of burst damage before retreating.
* {{Invisibility}}: Decoy used to cause the Wraith to turn invisible while spawning a clone of herself, allowing the Wraith to evade detection, while the hunters go for the copy. This was removed in the Stage 2 nerfs.
* NeverSplitTheParty: Update 2.15 gave her a passive ability, Isolation, that applies up to five stacks of debuffs on hunters that are at least 20 metres from allies. When activated by a melee attack by Wraith, the hunter takes a large amount of damage.
* NotQuiteFlight: A common tactic in the early days of the game was to warp upward and float down, giving the player a head start without leaving footprints. It fell out of use not because it became impossible, but because newer gameplay mechanics made it basically useless.
* SecondarySexualCharacteristics: There's good reason why Wraith is unanimously referred to as female, both by the developer, and by the fanbase.
** HartmanHips: She has very pronounced hips.
** HumanoidFemaleAnimal: While obviously nonhuman, her body more closely resembles a human being's than any other monster. Specifically, a woman. The resemblance can be [[UncannyValley rather uncanny]]. See, in spite of their extraordinary capabilities, the other monsters ''could'' pass as wholly natural animals under the right circumstances, but take a look at her [[https://i.imgur.com/VKbdJkL.jpg here]], and you'll notice something rather jarring about her appearance.
*** WordOfGod states she was deliberately designed this way for two purposes. One was making her more "relatable" through her physical characteristics in order to keep the player at ease whilst playing as her, which is something she shares in design with the other playable monsters, while the other was a personal choice to give her appearance a very "rapey" look, similar to how the Xenomorph from ''Film/{{Alien}}'' was designed by H.R. Giger, an inspiration for the creature's concept, albeit with a more yonic design choice, rather than a phallic one.
** ImpossibleHourglassFigure: Along with her previously mentioned "pronounced hips", she also attains a particularly thin waistline. Given she's an alien lifeform with little relation to humanity, along with the ability to hover indefinitely, she doesn't exactly need any support for her amazing chest.
** MasculineLinesFeminineCurves: Goliath is uber-masculine, Kraken is gangly, and Behemoth is built [[StealthPun like a mountain]], but the Wraith has ''very'' noticeable curves.
** NonMammalMammaries: Downplayed. She has no breasts to speak of, but her chest ''does'' curve in a way a woman's might. They're possibly fatty storages for warmth, like most reptile creatures have on their body somewhere, and nothing else.
* SinisterScythe: Her upper arms end in large bony blades that resemble scythes.
* TheSmurfettePrinciple: Prior to Gorgon's release, Wraith was the only monster referred to as female.
* StatusBuff: Supernova creates a large sphere which allows the Wraith to attack in a frenzy within it.
* YouWillNotEvadeMe: Abduction allows her to warp to a hunter, snatch them, and then pull them back to her previous spot.
!!Phantom Wraith
* AlienAutopsy: It was trapped in Wraith Trap and ''vivisected''. Suffice to say, those responsible soon wished they'd thought to kill it first.
* DarkIsEvil: One of the only details we know about it is that its hide was pitch black.
* HeroKiller: It kills [[spoiler: Caira]] sometime after the evacuation, and may be responsible for the deaths of [[spoiler: Val, Markov, and Hank]].
* RoaringRampageOfRevenge: It wasn't very friendly to begin with, but vivisecting it probably didn't make it any happier.
* UncertainDoom: [[spoiler: Val, Hank, Markov, Parnell, Emet, Sunny, and Bucket band together to hunt it down.]] While it may have put up a good fight, we don't know if it survived.
* VillainTeleportation: One of the reason's it's so dangerous is that it can teleport from planet to planet without the easy to find and destroy transport pods, allowing it to strike anywhere with impunity.

!!Behemoth

[[caption-width-right:350:Behemoth]]
[[caption-width-right:350:[[labelnote:Click here to see Glacial Behemoth]][[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gbehemoth.jpg]][[/labelnote]]]]
The fourth monster, the Behemoth is a massive 35-ton juggernaut. It is an archetypal MightyGlacier that greatly emphasizes power and endurance over mobility. Its abilities primarily focus on controlling the movement of the hunters. Lava Bomb explodes and creates a damaging field, [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin Rock Wall]] creates a massive stone wall, Tongue Grab lets it drag hunters towards it and out of position, and Fissure fires a high damaging attack that travels along the ground and can move up walls. It also has a passive, Living Fortress, that increases its damage resistance the more damage it takes within a short timespan. As a movement ability, it curls into a ball and rolls at great speed.

It is has an adaptation called Glacial Behemoth. Deep Freeze adds a passive to its melee attacks, launching a short range blast of ice to slow and damage hunters with every strike. Killing Frost creates small damaging field that slows reload and item swap times. Ice Spear hurls hunters back, pinning them to anything they hit. Frozen Monolith creates a large monolith that damages and slows anything nearby. It also has a passive called Ice Shield that gives it high damage resistance but decreases as it takes damage.
!!In General
* AreaOfEffect: Lava Bomb and Killing Frost cover a large area in a DamageOverTime field.
* TheBigGuy: Among the monsters, which is saying something.
* BizarreAlienBiology: Besides the general traits mentioned above, the Behemoth is covered in dense rocky plates, starkly at odds with the other's more organic aesthetics. It also has an exposed spinal cord, as well as organs that, upon closer inspection, appear to have grown on the outside of its body rather than have its stomach torn open.
* DeployableCover: Rock Wall can be used to block the Behemoth from Hunter attacks.
* DishingOutDirt: A much more traditional example than Goliath. Not only does Behemoth look like a walking mountain, but it can create massive rock formations from nowhere.
* TheDreaded: It's the only monster in-game that the hunters knew about before encountering it. That means they knew ''exactly'' how scared they should be when it finally showed up.
* FamedInStory: A villainous version, known as The Scourge of Factor.
* FashionableAsymmetry: Its eyes are rather chaotic.
* IndyEscape: The rolling attack makes this a common occurrence in-game. It gets an [[RaidersOfTheLostParody all-out homage]] in the Behemoth's reveal trailer.
* LightningBruiser: Not quite to the same extent as Goliath or Wraith, but Behemoth can be surprisingly swift when it wants to be, especially when rolling.
* MonsterShapedMountain: Behemoth's covered in rock-like plates, which very much gives him the impression of a walking mountain.
* MightyGlacier: One might even say "Mighty Volcano". It's a huge target, slow, unable to jump, and climbs slowly. Just don't let it punch you.
* PlayingWithFire: It can spit ranged lava bombs that burn Hunters and wildlife in a radius.
* RockMonster: Subverted. Behemoth might look like a straight example at a glance, but it's just as fleshy as the other monsters underneath all that armor.
* RollingAttack: Its movement ability.
* [[SpikeBallsOfDoom Spike Ball of Doom]]: Is one when rolling.
* UnnecessaryCombatRoll: Coming from Behemoth of all the monsters. When Behemoth performs a sneak attack, it actually does one of these before hitting the target.
* VocalDissonance: Its roars are surprisingly high pitched for something so large.
!!Behemoth
* BarrierWarrior: Rock Wall can be used to create instant cover or block a route behind you.
* ChameleonCamouflage: Due to its craggy plating, if Behemoth clings to a cliff under poor lighting conditions (e.g., on a dark map), and holds ''really'' still, it might ''blend in with the surrounding rock''.
* KillItWithFire: Lava Bomb is the most clear cut, but Rock Wall and Fissure both have magma-like designs to them.
* YouWillNotEvadeMe: If Behemoth goes on the offensive, it has ways of sticking to its targets. Tongue Grab pulls a distant target to melee range, while Rock Wall can trap hunters with Behemoth and make escape harder.
!!Glacial Behemoth
* HarmlessFreezing: Averted for most of its attacks, which deal damage and slow, but Ice Spear doesn't do damage beyond the initial impact while also freezing the target to a wall.
* KillItWithIce: As its ability names may indicate, it has an ice theme.
* PinnedToTheWall: The primary purpose of Ice Spear, which lets players hit the trapped hunter with heavier attacks.

[[folder:Gorgon]]
!!Gorgon
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gorgon_evolve.png]]
[[caption-width-right:350:Gorgon]]

The fifth monster, the Gorgon is a giant spider-like creature that has great mobility and number of tricky abilities to ensnare her prey. In direct combat Acid Spit covers the ground in damaging pools and Mimic sends out a remote control copy of yourself that acts like a living bomb. For disrupting the hunters, Spider Trap deploys a minion that prevents hunters from moving or attacking before dragging them away, while Web Snare reduces hunter's movement and jetpack speed.

It had a planned adaptation, but the expiration of TRS's contract makes its future unlikely.
----
* AcidPool: She can create them to hamper the hunter's movements.
* ActionBomb: A survivable version. While the Mimic is active you control it as you would the real Gorgon, while the true body is immobile. When its timer runs out, or you hit the ability button again, the Mimic detonates.
* AssistCharacter: Her Spider Trap carries away a single hunter and dies afterwards. Not that it's ineffective though.
* BigCreepyCrawlies: Apropos for a monster, it's big; its unevenly-spaced eyes are creepy; and it definitely crawls.
* BreathWeapon: It can spray acid from its mouth as an ability.
* BuildingSwing: Its primary means of traversal is called Web Sling, and yes, it's exactly what it sounds like.
* CeilingCling: One of Gorgon's unique characteristics is her ability to cling to walls after web slinging onto them. She can wait almost indefinitely, waiting for the right moment to either re-position or [[DeathFromAbove pounce on unsuspecting prey]].
* DamageOverTime: Web Snare and Mimic inflict a poison DOT, while Acid Spray leaves behind puddles that damage whatever steps in them.
* DegradedBoss: In Deepest Dark, swarms of newly hatched Gorgons serve as minions to the queen.
* EpicFlail: One of its hands is connected to the arm by elastic tissue, allowing it to swing the appendage like a living flail. If you look closely, this is also how it uses its BuildingSwing.
* FashionableAsymmetry: Its main arms don't match and its various eyes don't form pairs.
* GiantSpider: Looks like no spider known to man, but there's enough similarity for the hunters to make the comparison.
* InsectoidAliens
* LeanAndMean: She has an extremely thin waist, similar to the arachnids that inspired her design.
* MeaningfulName: Derived from "gorgos", meaning terrible or dreadful. In Greek mythology, the Gorgons were three sisters, the most famous one being {{Medusa}}, who could turn people into stone with a look.
* MonsterIsAMommy: Deepest Dark reveals that, despite the previously mentioned lack of gender, there is at least one Queen Gorgon that can reproduce.
* MonsterProgenitor: The Gorgon Queen encountered in Deepest Dark is said to be the source of the Gorgon eggs on Shear.
* SpidersAreScary: At the very least, Jack is unnerved by the prospect of a spider monster.
* SuperSpit: Can spew acid.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Host]]
!!Host
A type of monster that, along with Behemoth, destroyed the Factor colony. While it was dropped in the late stages of development it [[WordOfGod is confirmed]] to be canon.
----
* BigCreepyCrawlies: If its [[http://vignette1.wikia.nocookie.net/evolve/images/d/dd/ParasiteHost.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20151026135720 final concept art]] is still accurate.
* TheGhost: The only evidence in-game of its existence is a conversation with Maggie.
* MookMaker: It gets its name from the parasitic organisms it carries for use as weapons.

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Spoiler Monster]]
!!Kala Kapur "Hybrid"
The monster created when Kala finally succumbed to their HNA. She was planned to appear as a new monster, but the expiration of TRS's contract makes it unlikely we'll ever see this.
----
* CharacterDeath: Kala as we knew her died the moment she changed. [[spoiler: The Hybrid is eventually killed by Hyde in the ruins of Shear.]]
* TheCorruption: Any organism that gets too close will slowly be mutated into something more monstrous.
* {{Cyborg}}: Her mutation incorporated the tech she was using to control it.
* HeroKiller: When she transformed she tore through The Crew, through the wording makes it ambiguous if she actually killed anyone or if they died later. Some of her possible victims are [[spoiler: Lennox, Griffin, Maggie, Abe, and Cabot]].
* PowerUpgradingDeformation: All the power of a monster, with the appearance to boot.
* SingleSpecimenSpecies: Unlike the other monsters, there is only one Hybrid. Unfortunately for humanity, when Kala's mind was merged with the monster hive mind they gained the knowledge of how to make more.
* WasOnceAMan: A woman, that you could play as.
* WeakButSkilled: Her ability set would have involved only three ability buttons that would be used for combos to use all other monster abilities. The result was a lack of individual power but a massive tactical breadth.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Others]]
The five breeds of monster encountered on Shear, as well as those described above, are not the only kinds. Based off of official fiction published by the writer of Evolve, there are at least four more varieties.

!!Ajax Destroyer
* AnimalNemesis: To Torvald.
* NoNameGiven: We have no idea what breed of monster it is, other than that it isn't one of the monsters listed above.
* TheGhost: It never appears in-game, though developer comments indicate that there was a possibility that this would change.
* UniqueEnemy: It's an adaptation of an unknown monster.

!!Harrower
* TheGhost: Very little is known about them. Even the story that introduces them never describes one.
* {{Invisibility}}: The Harrower adaptation is capable of turning invisible.
* StrongButUnskilled: They only have three abilities instead of the usual four. This means each ability is individually more powerful but they lack tactical variety.

!!Howler
* TheGhost: All that's known about it is the name.
!!Machine-Monster
* AttackReflector: One of its abilities is to temporarily reflect all projectiles.
* {{BFG}}: It has two of them, usually hidden inside of its body.
* {{Cyborg}}: It incorporates human technology in its form, courtesy of knowledge stolen from Kala.
* DetachmentCombat: Its top and bottom halves can separate, the top becoming a hovering attack drone and the bottom becoming a stationary cannon.
* HackYourEnemy: It can take control of simple robots and use them against their creators.
* MechanicalLifeforms: Partially. It has armor formed from metal and ceramics, and a dissection reveals it contains data cables, batteries, and an AI core. What separates this from a normal cyborg is that these structures grew naturally.
* NoNameGiven: Referred to only as a machine-monster.
* ShoulderCannon: It has a shoulder mounted missile launcher.

!!Stormbringer
* TheGhost: All that's known about it is the name.
