! Cyber Beast Force
[[folder:Shinobu Fujiwara]]
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/shinobu_dancouga.png]]
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/KazukiYao
Shinobu was born in the mountain regions of Japan. Shinobu was a cadet of the Australian Space Military Academy before the invasion on the Muge Empire forces. After the school was closed due to destruction, he was transferred to the Far East's Special armoured unit, the Bestial Fighter Troop or Jyusenki Tai (Known in the English version as the Cyber Beast Force). His hobby is hang gliding. Shinobu is an [[AcePilot extremely talented pilot]], but his [[HairTriggerTemper rash temper]] and [[{{Pride}} over confidence]] tends to land him into situations over his head. Nevertheless he is a straightforward character. His blood type is A.
----
* AcePilot: While the rest of Juusenkitai counts, he's the only one who rides a fighter jet (the Eagle Fighter actually uses the same cockpit as the type he and Sara trained in) and his outrageous flying skills are commented upon several times.
* BadassAdorable: He is a HotBlooded AcePilot... who occasionally acts like a little child. (A particularly notable moment is where he jumped, hugged Sara and kissed her on the cheek, after his wish to give the titular mecha the ability to fly is granted.)
* BelligerentSexualTension: With Sara.
* BrutalHonesty: To a one shot character. (Being trapped inside a LotusEaterMachine situation is NOT better than facing reality.)
* CatchPhrase: "Yatte yaru ze!"[[labelnote:translation]]"Let's do it!"[[/labelnote]]
* CombinationAttack: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NK-Pi3IO8tk Dankuu Sougaken]] with Aoi.
* DumbassHasAPoint: Despite how he usually acts, he is the most battle-ready of the Jyusenkitai, which is part of why he was chosen to be its leader. Masato is immature and unskilled, Ryo hesitates to kill fellow humans, and Sara is still unable to accept Shapiro's FaceHeelTurn, even after making the decision that she is the one who will bring him to an end; Shinobu has none of that.
* {{Flanderization}}: That case where he gets vocal if others say his CatchPhrase? Only happened ONCE in the series, invoked by Ryo.
* GetAholdOfYourselfMan: He gives one to Ryo later.
* TheHero
* HiddenDepths: He is the most straightforward character in the show. Until you realize that he is the ONLY character who actually thinks about the effect of war. It's rather jarring since the reason that Igor punched him for his lack of discipline is because he is showing his concern toward his teammates and the civilians. Heck - once Ryo punched him for not showing up in time for a mission, but he was late because he was getting a kid to safety.
* HotBlooded: All the Dancougar pilots are like this, but Shinobu was the patron saint of this trope before [[Anime/MobileFighterGGundam Domon Kasshu]] and [[Anime/TengenToppaGurrenLagann Kamina]] came along, along the lines of [[Anime/MazingerZ Kouji Kabuto]].
* IdiotHero: His antics sometimes caused problems early on. (Example: getting out of Eagle Fighter during their mission in Peru lead directly to him and Sara getting captured.)
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold
* ManChild: Ryo described him as a little child with a toy (the Eagle Fighter) once. This is also lampshaded by [[TagAlongKid Laura]]. Borders on being an InformedAttribute, as he's perfectly mature and realistic on the battlefield.
* NeverTellMeTheOdds: Will ignore or disbelieve data if it limits his freedom to act. And it shows, to Alan's embarrassment.
* RunningGag: He's constantly getting his ass kicked in fistfights.
* SecondLove: For Sara.
* SmarterThanYouLook: Despite being an IdiotHero, he's still a military graduate, and is relatively well-educated.
* WhatTheHellHero: Gets called out quite a few times for his lack of discipline.
** Performed one to General Igor, and for good reason. He is punished for his effort though.

[[folder:Sara Yuuki]]
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sara_dancouga.png]]
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/YurikoYamamoto
Sara Yuuki hails from the Izu peninsula. She was assigned to the Far East Armoured Unit a few days later than Shinobu due to several circumstances. During her days at the Australian Military Academy, [[AllGirlsWantBadBoys she had fallen in love with her Commander Shapiro Keats]], before he defected to the Muge Empire. [[WomanScorned Ever since then she's been torn between her old love and new hatred towards Shapiro]]. Sara [[{{Tsundere}} is known for her fiery temper]] and enjoys swimming and music. Her blood type is AB.
----
* ActionGirl: Is surprisingly capable in hand-to-hand combat.
* BelligerentSexualTension: With Shinobu.
* FieryRedhead: Part of the reason she was chosen to be in the Juusenkitai was for her temperament. The fact that she's a redhead is coincidental.
* HumanizingTears: Sara is a no-nonsense lady who can easily get pissed off with Shinobu's hotblooded nonsense and more likely to slap him in the face. When Shinobu found her just after being literally tossed aside by Shapiro, she ended up showing her vulnerable side, [[CryIntoChest crying on his chest]].
%%* TheLancer
* SpotlightStealingSquad: Hoo boy, if not for her position you would think she is the main character. Towards the end of the show, she has even more focus than before.
%%* {{Tsundere}}: Type A.
* WomanScorned: Towards Shapiro, later in the series.

[[folder:Masato Shikibu]]
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/masato_dancouga.png]]
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/ShigeruNakahara
Masato was born in the Iwate Prefecture. Masato's father was the President of an arms manufacturing plant, and his family is quite wealthy. [[Main/RebelliousPrincess Going against his father's wishes]], Masato entered the academy (6th team trainee). [[TagAlongKid He is the youngest member of the Jyusenki Tai]]. An active lad, though somewhat immature, Masato's emotional strength makes up for his lack in combat experience. [[ParentalAbandonment Later Masato's father is killed in an engagement involving a Muge survivor, in "God Bless Dancouga"]]. Masato also is the best friend of Laura Sullivan, and her dog Becky. His blood type is B.
----
* CallingTheOldManOut: Masato doesn't like the fact that his father is an arms dealer.
* IdiotHero: Is something of a slacker.
* KidAppealCharacter
* OutOfFocus: Rarely has an episode centered around him, if any.
* ParentalAbandonment
* [[RebelliousPrincess Rebellious Scion]]
* TheSmartGuy: One of two.
* TagAlongKid: More or less. If not for the military setting, he'd be 12.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Ryo Shiba]]
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ryo_dancouga.png]]
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/KanetoShiozawa
After graduating from the Military Academy, he decided to [[WalkingTheEarth roam about, practicing his Kenpou martial arts]]. When the Jyusenki Tai was formed and General Igor asked him to join, he met up with his companions in Kansas City after a major battle. An orphan, Ryo is a [[IneffectualLoner quiet man]] [[MartialPacifist who practices spirituality according to his Chinese Kenpou disciplines]]. Ryo's blood type is O.
----
* TheBigGuy
* CelibateHero: Subverted - he stays like this until the end of ''God Bless Dancougar'', when he gets married. (They were waiting for the war with the Muge Empire to end.)
* GeniusBruiser: The spiritual kind.
* GetAholdOfYourselfMan: He's the one who's the most likely to call Shinobu out on his tomfoolery.
* IneffectualLoner: Due to being a MartialPacifist.
* MartialPacifist: Doesn't like using his skills against humans.
* SkilledButNaive: In a CrapsackWorld under Alien Invasion that nearly wiped out humanity being, he still hesitate to fight against fellow humans. A trait that is taken advantage of when the Muge created a squad of RidiculouslyHumanRobots.
* TheSmartGuy: One of two.
[[/folder]]

! Muge Empire
[[folder:Emperor Muge Zorbados]]
->'''Voiced by:''' Shusei Nakamura, Creator/TetsuInada in the ''VideoGame/SuperRobotWars'' games.
----
* BackFromTheDead: Comes back in an even more monstrous form in the OVA sequel to the series, ''God Bless Dancougar''.
* BenevolentBoss: Despite Death Gaia's repeated failures, Muge forgives him due to his contributions to the Empire, and is shown to address him in a more or less casual manner.
* BigBad: The ruler of Muge Empire and the main antagonist.
* DimensionLord
* EldritchAbomination: His true form under that robe and headdress he wears for most of the series is a HumanoidAbomination fusion of man and machine that looks like it was designed by Creator/HRGiger.
* GrandTheftMe: [[spoiler:Does this to Sayuri in God Bless Dancouga.]]
* OneWingedAngel: in God Bless Dancougar.
* OrcusOnHisThrone: Just sits around and lets his three Generals and Shapiro do all the work for him until ''Requiem for the Victims''. Justified as he lives in his own personal pocket dimension that's an extension of himself, so the Dancouga team has to come to him instead.
* RealityWarper
* YouHaveFailedMe: Though ''not'' for the last time. In spite of Death Gaia's repeated failures, Muge Zorbados isn't too bent up about it and cites the numerous victories Death Gaia's responsible for and lets him off with just sentencing what's essentially a sabbatical. The process is repeated somewhat with Gildorom.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Shapiro Keats]]
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/NorioWakamoto
Shapiro was a former commander of the Australian Military Academy, [[TheMole before he defected to the Muge Zorbados Imperial forces.]] [[SmugSnake Stubborn]] and intelligent Shapiro is obsessed with becoming the ruler of the Universe and has [[AGodAmI delusions of Godhood]]. Unlike most anime villains, he is extremely competent, and has actually come within a [[NearVillainVictory hair's breadth of defeating the Jyusenki Tai]] by exploiting his tactical knowledge of Earth and the human condition. [[FatalFlaw His greatest weakness is his own arrogance]], which eventually estranges him from his own allies and leads to his downfall. He is shot by Sara in the series. In the [[VideoGame/SuperRobotWars SRW series]], Shapiro often makes his last stand by piloting a robot.
----
* AGodAmI: Drinking game: take a shot whenever he says this. You won't last long.
* AmbitionIsEvil: He is the grand champion of this.
* AwesomeByAnalysis: He even analyzed the hell out of the meaning of Dancouga.
* BackFromTheDead: In the Blazing Epilogue OVA.
* BigBadWannabe
* CharacterTics: His right shoulder twitches whenever he is upset or excited, which is carried over whenever he is piloting.
* EvilGenius: Oh so very much.
* FatalFlaw: {{Pride}}
* TheFightingNarcissist
* [[spoiler:HeroicSacrifice]]: [[spoiler:Not really heroic, but he still helps the Cyber Beast Force at the end of Blazing Epilogue by giving the Dancougar a boost of power with his anger from the frustration of being used by the aliens.]]
* KarmicDeath: At the hands of the woman he used and abandoned.
* LargeHam: As usual for characters voiced by Wakamoto.
* MakeUpIsEvil: Uses more eyeliner than you'd expect a man to.
* ManipulativeBastard
* SmugSnake
* {{Turncoat}}: Defects to the Muge Empire in the first episode (though they rightfully take a while to believe him).
* VillainousBreakdown: A absolutely ''epic'' one.
* VillainDecay: Towards the end of the show, his effectiveness took a nosedive as he became more and more DrunkWithPower.
* VillainSong: Shadowy Dream, the second ending song.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:General Death Gaia]]
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/YusakuYara
----
* BadBoss: Is very quick to blame or harm his subordinates.
* BloodKnight: Will go into battle himself against the Juusenkitai.
* TheDragon
* HairTriggerTemper
* ZergRush: His favorite tactic is to roll in with overwhelming force.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:General Gildorome]]
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/MasaharuSato
----
* EvilGenius: And does not like sharing this position with Shapiro.
* MasterOfIllusion
[[/folder]]

[[folder:General Helmut]]
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/IsseiFutamata
----
* AxCrazy
* TheBrute
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Luna Rossa]]
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/SaekoShimazu
----
* AccidentalMurder: [[spoiler:Whereas the other Generals die fighting, she's killed by a passing Dancougar.]]
* AssholeVictim: [[spoiler:By the time she dies, nobody cared all that much.]]
* DroppedABridgeOnHim: [[spoiler:Killed by a passing Dancougar that is traveling to the enemy base. Can't get more mundane than that, really.]]
* BitchInSheepsClothing: Acts all nice towards Shapiro. And then she shows her true colors.
* ClingyJealousGirl: To Shapiro towards Sara.
* CuteMonsterGirl
* NiceJobFixingItVillain: An intentional example though, [[spoiler:if it wasn't for her help Sara would probably never have managed to get to Shapiro in the Asteroid Base.]]
* [[spoiler:SurprisinglySuddenDeath: Came out of nowhere, really.]]
