!!!'''Universe:''' Earth-92164
!!!'''Debut:''' ''What If?'' Vol. 2 #44

The Venom Symbiote took over Frank Castle instead of Eddie Brock, resulting in the largest killing spree the Punisher was ever able to achieve. The symbiote attempted to take over Frank's body, but he realized it, and vowed to kill himself if he wasn't given control permanently. They stayed together and became the new Punisher.
----
* AlternateSelf: Another version of the Punisher who bonded to the Venom symbiote appears in ''ComicBook/{{Venomverse}}''.
* FightingFromTheInside: After the symbiote takes over, Castle struggles internally with it and eventually forces it to submit to him.
* SociopathicHero: To an even greater degree than the already UnscrupulousHero his mainstream counterpart is, since he succeeds in killing Tombstone and the Kingpin. After he gains control of the symbiote, the other heroes are leery and designate him NecessarilyEvil at best.
* SuperheroPackingHeat: He may be wearing the Venom symbiote, but he's still the Punisher, guns and all.
* TakingYouWithMe: Frank threatens to kill himself and the symbiote if he isn't given control.
* WingedHumanoid: Castle forms wings out of the symbiote's biomass, enabling him to fly - or at least glide.

--> ''"As I live and breathe... or whatever it is... I do... Miguel O'Hara... and Tyler Stone... together again. We... I get to kill you... at the same time... how awfully... awfully... considerate. To show my appreciation... I'll kill you slowly."''

Kron Stone, the son of Alchemax CEO Tyler Stone and unknowingly the [[CainAndAbel older half-brother]] of Miguel O'Hara, aka Spider-Man 2099. As a child, Stone was [[TheBully a bully]] and thug who [[TheSociopath took delight in tormenting his half-sibling]], and as an adult he became a SerialKiller and murdered the family of Jake Gallows. In retaliation to Kron walking with only a minor fine, Gallows took up the mantle of [[Comicbook/ThePunisher2099 The Punisher]] and fatally stabbed him before dumping him in the sewers. Dying, Kron brushed against the Venom symbiote, which had laid dormant for nearly a century, and it bonded to and took over him. As Venom, Kron was bestowed with powers beyond those Eddie Brock had possessed, and used them to torment Miguel, even going so far as to murder his LoveInterest Dana, but was ultimately defeated when Miguel used the city's speakers to amplify a sonic blast. Venom was taken in for study and the symbiote was separated from its host, but escaped and bonded to Roman the Sub-Mariner, escaping into the ocean. In the ''Timestorm 2009-2099'' crossover event, an alternate version of Kron Stone is transformed into the [[MixAndMatchCritters 2099 equivalent]] of the [[ScaryScorpions Scorpion]] by a [[TimeyWimeyBall time flux]] caused by Jake Gallows and his own father.

--> ''"You don't have me, dad. Maybe mom thought you shouldn't be a hero, but I don't."''

In a world where EveryoneIsASuper due to the release of a mutagen called the [[MassSuperEmpoweringEvent Terrigan Mist]], May Parker has taken over for her cynical, retired father as New York's resident web-slinger. At some point in her past, May became bonded to the Venom symbiote, which sought to use her to take revenge on Peter Parker, but ended up subjugating it and becoming Venom, which further alienated her and her father. May attempted to stop the psychic supervillain the Skull from taking over New York City, but was subdued by his bodyguard/lover Iron Maiden and subjugated to the Skull's mind control, becoming his "lady". May was freed from the Skull's mind control by her father, who came out of retirement, and Captain America, who killed the Skull, and joined the [=NYPD=] alongside her father at Luke Cage's request.

When her father was sent to capture a being known as "Spiders Man", who was capable of spinning illusion-enducing energy webs and was working for the [[CorruptChurch Church of Immortus]], Venom went looking for him and found him ensnared in Spiders Man's illusions. Tapping into Peter's dream world, she was outraged to find he'd constructed a fantasy world where he had married Gwen Stacy and had a son named Ben. Forcing her father to face reality and come to terms with his life, Venom helped take Spiders Man into custody, and subsequently helped stop the Church of Immortus from dousing the Human Torch, a reactor created to purify the air of the Terrigan Mist, in New York. Venom eventually encountered an alternate version of herself from Earth-1122, who had come to warn Peter Parker about the threat of entities called the [[EldritchAbomination Celestials]]. Venom and Spider-Girl initially fought, but after learning they were [[AlternateSelf Alternate Selves]] they came to regard each other as sisters. Later, Venom accompanied her father to quell a disturbance at the Baxter Building caused by denizens of the Negative Zone, and it was discovered that Captain Marvel had created an afterlife called Paradise in the depths of the Zone and was seeking to kill Death, to which end he had reincarnated several deceased heroes and villains as [[OurAngelsAreDifferent the Avenging Host]]. Venom was forced to retreat from the Negative Zone as her world was consumed by the expansion of Paradise. Krang the Conquerer rescues her from being sucked into the expanding vortex and recruits her into the Chronos Corps, his team of heroes and villains from doomed universes, in order to stop the Apocalypse Twins. May helps the team in their attack on Eimin Worthington, and takes down the resurrected Banshee herself.
----
* AlternateSelf: To the various other [[ComicBook/SpiderGirl May Parkers]] in the multiverse. She even meets one of them and they become LovelyAngels for a time.
* AntagonisticOffspring: May's relationship with her father became strained after [=MJ=]'s death due to cancer, and worsened when she bonded to the Venom symbiote. It only improved after they joined the NYPD together.
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: Was mind-controlled by the Skull, who took her as his lover.
* TheBusCameBack: Despite having not appeared since ''Paradise X'' in 2003, she returns in 2013's ''Uncanny Avenger's #14''.
* CallingTheOldManOut: When she sees her father's ideal reality is one where she never existed and he had a son named Ben, May ''really'' [[WhatTheHellHero lays into him]].
* GoingCommando: May is naked under the symbiote, and uses its shapeshifting ability in lieu of clothing.
* HeroicBSOD: After seeing the LotusEaterMachine that her father was placed in by Spiders Man.
--> '''May:''' You had... a son. That's what you wanted. You didn't want mom. And you didn't want me.
* HeroicHost: May is host to the Venom symbiote, but [[SymbioticPossession it is subservient to her]].
* LetsYouAndHimFight: Peter correctly predicts that his May and the alternate May will fight, then reconcile and become friends.
* NoHoldsBarredBeatdown: Tries to beat Spiders Man to death after he shows her what her father always wanted, coming close to caving his head in with a spiked mace before Peter stops her.
* NonStandardCharacterDesign: Her color scheme is more reminiscent of Carnage than Venom.
* NoSell: The symbiote made her immune to Spiders Man's illusions.
* ReformedButRejected: Peter thinks the symbiote is controlling his daughter in an effort to get to him - which, granted, ''was'' the reason it bonded to her in the first place - and refused to believe May's insistence that it's been reformed.
* SoleSurvivor: Seems to be this of the ComicBook/EarthX universe, although Kang has stated that he could restore it in exchange for her help.
* SpiderSense: Doubles as an EnemyDetectingRadar, similar to Matt Murdock's echolocation.
* SuperCop: She is an NYPD officer with superpowers.
* SymbioticPossession: The symbiote initially wanted to [[PuppeteerParasite take over May]], but it was subjugated by her instead.
* TaintedVeins: May's face is covered in pronounced black veins when she retracts the symbiote, and her costume is covered in blood-red vein-like markings.
* {{Wingdinglish}}: The symbiote speaking is at one point represented by a word bubble containing what looks like a spiral.
* YourMindMakesItReal: In Earth-9997 the symbiotes are metaphysical lifeforms created by the Celestials, and their appearance and abilities are sustained by belief. Since Peter believed the machine the symbiote was contained in was a costume dispenser, the symbiote became a living costume with powers that mimicked those of Spider-Man's equipment. It's implied that it could become even ''more'' powerful if it became aware of this facet of its existence.

--> ''"There is no Eddie Brock! And there is no symbiote! Only... Venom!"''

An unscrupulous and selfish reporter determined to get a Pulitzer, Eddie Brock was tasked by J. Jonah Jameson to find evidence of the Lizard. Upon discovering the Lizard was Dr. Curtis Connors, Eddie was discovered taking pictures by Spider-Man, who smashed his camera and humiliated Eddie by leaving him dangling from a lamp post. When Eddie brought Jameson and the police to the Connors' house to expose him as a monster, he was further humiliated when the door was answered by a fully human Dr. Connors. Brock was given a second chance when Jameson tasked him with unmasking Spider-Man, but bungled it when he mistook a costumed Flash Thompson for the real thing. Fired from the Bugle for inaccurate reporting and unprofessionalism, Eddie blamed Spider-Man, but was able to acquire a job at another news outlet. This was short-lived when Alistair Smythe sent a Spider-Slayer after him and Brock was blamed for the ensuing devastation. Blaming Spider-Man, Brock attempted to exploit Jameson's hatred of the wall-crawler by framing him for the theft of Prometheum X, a newly discovered mineral that could be converted into a powerful explosive. When the truth was revealed, however, Brock was again fired and returned to his apartment see he was being evicted. Spider-Man saved Eddie from being assassinated by the Shocker, and followed J. Jonah Jameson to the hostage exchange for his son. Eddie tried to attack Spider-Man during his fight with the Shocker, but was contemptuously webbed up. After Spider-Man rejected the symbiotic black costume, realizing it was turning him into a monster, it immediately bonded to Brock, transforming him into Venom.

As Venom, Eddie easily defeated Spider-Man and attempted to expose his identity to the public, but was lured to the launch site of Jameson's satellite. The sound of the thrusters weakened the symbiote, which Spider-Man webbed to the side of the shuttle, and Eddie was sent to the Ravencroft Institute for the Criminally Insane. Eddie fell in love with his psychiatrist, Dr. Ashley Kafka, who dismissed his claims of being Venom and the existence of the symbiote as delusional products of his hatred for Spider-Man. Baron Mordo, servant of the demon Dormammu, recalled the satellite to Earth and offered to return the symbiote to Eddie in exchange for his service. Eddie agreed and the symbiote was returned to him, but when he failed to steal a portal machine developed by Tony Stark, Mordo was forced to recruit Eddie's neighbor, the madman Cletus Kasady, giving him the Venom symbiote's offspring and turning him into ComicBook/{{Carnage}}. Eddie's growing feelings for Dr. Kafka led him to turn his back on Mordo and eventually reject the symbiote, but when Ashley was abducted by Carnage he became Venom once more to save her. Venom sacrificed himself in order to stop Dormammu from escaping and close the portal between worlds, taking Carnage with him.

Eddie Brock was an unscrupulous reporter working for the Daily Bugle, covering the story of John Jameson's trip into space. When Spider-Man rid himself of the symbiote, Eddie, who had been webbed up nearby, became its next host, clashing with Spider-Man repeatedly before being taken into SHIELD custody. While escaping prison, Venom bonded a portion of his symbiote to the serial killer Cletus Kasady, turning him into Carnage, and the two became a monstrous team, though over the years the symbiote took complete control of Eddie's body. Together with Carnage, Venom attacked John Jameson's shuttle to Counter-Earth, augmented and guided by an entity they called the Synoptic. On Counter-Earth, Venom and Carnage began working to further the Synoptic's goal of conquering Counter-Earth with symbiotes, at times working with the High Evolutionary, but most often against both him and Spider-Man.

Eddie was separated from the symbiote by the High Evolutionary's forces, who wanted to study and dissect the alien. Spider-Man reluctantly took Eddie to Dr. Yamada-Jones, who revealed that without the symbiote he would die. Eddie demanded Spider-Man retrieve the alien, threatening to reveal his secret identity, and Spider-Man tracked it down to a laboratory. Discovering it was dying without a host, he reluctantly allowed it to bond to him. In the clinic, Eddie slowly reconnected with his humanity and befriended Dr. Yamada-Jones' son, Shane, deciding to die as a human rather than become a monster again. Carnage, having sensed something was wrong, attacked just as Spider-Man arrived, and Brock re-bonded to the symbiote to protect his new friends. He remained in control just long enough to get Carnage out of the clinic before the symbiote reasserted control.

Born to Shinji and May Reilly of the Spider Clan, Venom was injured by the poison arrows of the Shadow Clan when they came for his Aunt Kiri, his skin turning blue. Trained by Ben Parker in the ways of the shinobi, Venom eventually defected to the Shadow Clan and became its greatest warrior. Under orders from the Kingpin, the leader of the Kuji Kuri crime syndicate, he killed Ben but spared his cousin Peter, not seeing him as a threat. Ordered to finish the job, Venom sent assassins after Peter, who defeated them but lost to Venom himself, only being saved by the Hulk's intervention. Killing the Kingpin, Venom assumed control of the Kuji Kuri and, when Peter was in danger of being consumed by the curse of a Shadow Clan amulet he'd acquired, sacrificed himself to fulfil his life-debt to Peter. Under mysterious circumstances, Venom returned with full control of the amulet's powers and assumed leadership of the Spider-Clan, becoming Peter's sensei. A year after Peter left the Spider-Clan to start a new life with Mary Jane, Venom learned of [[ComicBook/SpiderVerse an interdimensional war involving the Spider-Totems]] and sent his cousin a warning to stay out of it. Peter misinterpreted the warning and was determined to join the conflict, so Venom resolved to kill Peter himself. Easily trouncing his cousin, Venom was stopped from killing him by several other Spider-Totems, who webbed him up.
----
* AmazingTechnicolorPopulation: He has blue-grey skin due to being poisoned with spider-venom as a child.
* AmuletOfConcentratedAwesome: The Shadow Clan amulet he took from Peter is the Mangaverse equivalent of the symbiote, and Venom can use its power without [[CastFromLifespan the usual drawbacks]].
* HeroicSacrifice: He sacrificed himself to save Peter from the cursed Shadow Clan amulet, repaying his life debt. He later [[UnexplainedRecovery reappeared with control over the Amulet's powers]], and when asked how responded with YouDoNotWantToKnow.
* InstantArmor: He can draw on the cursed amulet's power to encase himself in monstrous samurai armor.
* LovecraftianSuperpower: When transformed, can turn his arms into multiple tentacles or blades when using the Amulet's power.
* LukeIAmYourFather: He is the son of Aunt May and her first husband, and thus Peter's biological cousin and sort-of brother.
* MoreTeethThanTheOsmondFamily: Drawing on the amulet's power gives him an enormous fang-studded mouth.
* {{Ninja}}: He was a member of the Shadow Clan before joining the Spider Clan.
* NoNameGiven: His birth name is unknown, possibly even to him. But seeing as how the Mangaverse kept most names the same, it isn't too out there to assume it's Eddie, or some variation thereof.
* PoorCommunicationKills: When the Inheritors' Great Hunt began, Venom sent a warning to Peter to stay away from the Spider Clan's temple, in the form of a black-and-white spider that bit his hand. Peter, having just had a vision of his Uncle Ben and Aunt May telling him to fight, misinterpreted this warning and did exactly the opposite. Venom then decided that if Peter was going to be that boneheaded, he may as well kill him himself.
* {{Ronin}}: His occupation before his HeelFaceTurn.
* TattooedCrook: He has white tattoos that invoke spider-legs.
* YouShallNotPass: Pulls this with Peter during the Spider-Verse, but is webbed up.

--> ''"It needs you -- it needs you to survive. It needs you more than me!! I can't do it alone. It needs you... this is all your fault."''

Hoping to create a cure for cancer and other diseases, Edward Brock Sr. and Richard Parker began work on the Venom Project, developing a viscous black fluid designed to encase and enhance the wearer's body. Having run out of funding, they turned to Trask Industries, who financed their research into the project's second stage. However, when military applications for the Suit became apparent, Trask seized their "Symbiote Effect" research, intending to weaponize it. During the ensuing legal battle, Richard and Edward and their wives were killed in a plane crash, orphaning their sons Peter and Eddie Jr. While Peter was sent to live with his Aunt May and Uncle Ben, Eddie was put into foster care. As a college student, Eddie uncovered their notes and a sample of the Venom Suit, and continued their work hoping to finish it. When Peter contacted him, Eddie showed him the sample, proclaiming it to be their inheritance. While Eddie went out on a date with Gwen Stacy, Peter, furious over how Trask Industries had stolen his father's research, snuck into the lab to take some of the sample for his own research. Peter accidentally spilled a drop on his hand, which enveloped his body in a jet-black bio-suit that amplified all of his powers. Overjoyed with his new invulnerability and augmented powers, Peter stopped a kidnapping and took down the Shocker. After witnessing a robbery gone wrong that reminded him of his Uncle's murder, Peter was overwhelmed by rage, transforming into a monstrous creature and nearly devouring the robber before coming to his senses. Unable to control the Venom Suit even with his powers and genetic link to Richard, whose DNA the sample had been synchronized to, Peter accidentally leapt into telephone wires and the resulting surge of electricity destroyed the Suit.

After being turned down by Gwen, Eddie saw a televised broadcast of Spider-Man wearing the black costume. Thinking Peter had betrayed him and that Spider-Man had stolen their parents' legacy, Eddie returned to the lab to find a battered and injured Peter in the middle of stealing the sample. Peter revealed to Eddie that he was Spider-Man, and warned him that in its incomplete state the Venom Suit inflicted its wearer with uncontrollable bloodlust and hunger. Unable to stop Peter from destroying the sample, Eddie waited until he had left before taking a second specimen and deliberately exposing himself to it. Eddie immediately lost control and transformed into a horrifying monster called Venom, discovering the hard way that the Venom Suit consumed incompatible hosts from the inside out, forcing them to continually devour other living organisms to stay alive.

Eddie, compelled by the suit's genetic memories of Peter and his own hatred, attacked him at school and tried to devour him, but their brawl was interrupted when Venom stepped on a broken power line. Eddie vanished for some time, later revealed to have been hiding in Central Park and feeding off random bystanders. Curt Connors used a leftover sample of the Venom Project, as well as trace remnants of the suit left in Peter's blood, as one of the ingredients in creating Carnage, a vampiric monster that killed Gwen Stacy. Captured by the Wild Pack - mercenaries hired by Trask Industries, Eddie was forced let Trask study and attempt to remove the symbiote, but a Latverian supersoldier called the Beetle interrupted and tried to obtain a sample of the suit by force. During the ensuing brawl with Spider-Man, the Beetle, and the Wild Pack, the Venom Suit left Eddie and bonded to Peter, briefly taking over him before being removed by the Ultimates and seized by S.H.I.E.L.D. Having grown addicted to the Suit's power, Eddie attempted to threaten Peter into retrieving it, but the reborn Carnage intervened and in the ensuing fight the particles of the Venom Suit within Eddie reformed. Venom eventually gained the upper hand against Carnage and assimilated it, transforming into an even more monstrous form and regurgitating Carnage's host, a clone of Gwen Stacy. Venom retreated, but was captured by the Beetle and taken to Latveria.

--> ''"We are not Venom. They were the result of a union between the symbiote and man called Brock. We are unique. You need to get over past prejudices, May... and learn to trust us."''

The son of Liz Allan and Harry Osborn, Normie Osborn held Peter Parker responsible for the deaths of his father and [[ComicBook/NormanOsborn grandfather]] and took up the mantle of the Green Goblin to settle the score, prompting Peter's daughter Mayday to do the same and become Spider-Girl. As the third incarnation of the Green Goblin, Normie proved ineffective, losing not only to Mayday but to [[HandicappedBadass Peter]], Phil Urich, and even to ''Mary Jane''. When he finally caught his big break and captured May, she talked him into forsaking his ancestors' legacy and he reformed, becoming one of her allies. Oblivious to May's crush on him, he began dating Brenda "Raptor" Drago, the daughter of Blackie Drago, the second Vulture, but his repressed feelings for May and the arrival of a fiancée named Élan [=DeJunae=] strained that. Élan interrupted Normie's wedding to Brenda, forcibly bonding him to the Venom symbiote as a "wedding present", and the Venom-controlled Normie went berserk until being subdued by Mayday. Despite being urged to kill it, Normie opted to keep the symbiote, stating that if he could be redeemed then so could it.

With the symbiote, Normie set out to become a superhero, though he secretly instructed his secretary to have Spider-Girl kill him if he ever lost control. He was arrested for harbouring the alien by ComicBook/TheAvengers, who assigned him to Kaine's squad for reformed supervillains after he stopped a rampaging ComicBook/WarMachine. When Spider-Girl was mortally wounded by the Hobgoblin's Scriers, both Normie and the symbiote rampaged until they had killed or driven back their enemies. The symbiote then transferred itself to Spider-Girl in order to save her life and empower her, removing Normie's tattoos and scars - mementos of his time as the Green Goblin - as a parting gift, and sacrificed itself to protect her and Peter from the Hobgoblin.

The symbiote would briefly live on (in a way) through April "Mayhem" Parker, a clone created by Norman Osborn using [=DNA=] samples taken from it and Mayday.

--> ''"Venom? Venom was a hopeless loser. Venom didn't realize his full potential. Venom was a sad, lonely creature. I'm so much more now, but if you can't find it in your heart to call me Peter... then how about... Poison?"''

In ''The Other'', Spider-Man died saving his wife from [[Characters/SpiderManTheInheritors Morlun]], but was resurrected with [[CameBackStrong enhanced powers]] by the [[OurGodsAreDifferent Great Weaver]]. In ''WhatIf The Other'', Peter [[TheReasonYouSuckSpeech vehemently rejects]] the Great Weaver's offer and [[OffWithHisHead kills it]], leaving him in a coma. The Venom symbiote, languishing in prison with its then-current host Mac Gargan, senses Peter's predicament and abandons Gargan, taking over a prison guard and rushing to the bridge where Peter had cocooned himself. The symbiote ditches the guard and enters the cocoon, giving it a DarkerAndEdgier makeover and [[PuppeteerParasite taking over Peter's body]], crushing what little remained of his psyche in the process. The resulting being heads to [[Comicbook/IronMan Tony Stark's]] apartment, where Mary Jane and Aunt May are living, and introduces himself as Poison, offering to share his "love" with Mary Jane by bonding her to a symbiote. When she vehemently turns him down. Poison threatens to transform her by force and ComicBook/{{Wolverine}} and ComicBook/LukeCage intervene, but Poison easily defeats them. To stop Poison from killing them, Mary Jane offers her body to him, but not her soul, promising to make their eternity together miserable. Poison then leaves and exhumes Gwen Stacy's body, resurrecting it with a red-and-black symbiote.
----
* AmbiguouslyEvil: Poison is the [[IAmAHumanitarian Venom symbiote]] plus [[TheHero Peter Parker]]. What that equals was not really shown, but he ''did'' leave Mary Jane in peace when she refused him and spared Wolverine and Luke Cage at her request.
* BattleInTheCenterOfTheMind: Off-panel, but Peter's psyche put up a fight against the symbiote that lasted several months. It lost.
--> '''Uatu the Watcher:''' What follows then is a long, difficult, and terrifying confrontation. It does not occur overnight. No... It takes many months. Months of struggle on both a physical and psychic level - for Peter Parker has a determined, strong personality. It is said that in storytelling that it is preferable [[ShowDontTell to show rather than to tell]]. But to show [[LossOfIdentity the slow, gradual destruction of the being known as Peter Parker]]... it would be too heartbreaking. I speak of these 'What Ifs' to educate... to bring you understanding of the many directions that choices can take you. Not to send you into spirals of depression, nor depict things so nightmarish that you will never have another full night's sleep, ever, if you bear witness to them. [[TakeOurWordForIt So take the word of Uatu]], the Watcher, that it was a long and terrible battle, and ultimately... one that Peter Parker lost".
* BladeBelowTheShoulder: Poison has the same wrist-mounted stingers Peter did following ''The Other'', but has conscious control of them. They're even capable of penetrating Luke Cage's nigh-invlunerable skin.
* CameBackWrong: Poison is the Venom symbiote bonded to Peter's comatose/dead body. He can do this to people as well, as he threatens to do this to Mary Jane when she spurns him and resurrects Gwen Stacy in TheStinger.
* CombatTentacles: Like most incarnations of Venom, Poison can form tendrils to attack opponents,
* CurbStompBattle: Wolverine and Luke Cage tried to stop Poison from talking to Mary Jane. It didn't end well... for them.
* DoNotCallMePaul: Poison dismisses "Venom'' as a weakling who couldn't comprehend the symbiote's true power.
* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: According to Uatu's narration, this is why the symbiote ditches Gargan, why Poison offers to turn Mary Jane into a symbiote-bonded monster, and why he resurrects Gwen Stacy as one when [=MJ=] scorns him.
* MonsterFromBeyondTheVeil: After his death at Morlun's hands, Peter rejected the Other of resurrection and his body was left in an incomplete state of metamorphosis. The Venom symbiote bonds with him, leading to him being "reborn" as Poison. He notes he could do the same for Mary Jane, but that she'd just be a mindless puppet controlled by him.
* ThePowerOfLove: The symbiote believes its resurrection of Peter was an act of "love and glory everlasting. A true blessing... the kind you pray for in church but never get." [[LampshadeHanging Lampshaded]] by the Watcher.
* TheSoulless: Peter's [[OffWithHisHead rejection]] of the Spider leaves him in this state, enabling the symbiote to finish off what's left.
* SuperWindowJump: How Poison gets into Stark's apartment.
* WeCanRuleTogether: Offers Mary Jane an eternal life by his side... as a symbiotic monster. She refuses.
* {{Yandere}}: The symbiote's desire for Peter is so strong it doesn't care that Peter is OnlyMostlyDead. Furthermore, when [=MJ=]'s response to his WeCanRuleTogether offer is "I'd rather be dead." His response?
--> '''Poison:''' Dead's no problem. I can make that work.

A version of Venom from the Marvel Zombies Universe (Earth-2149) who was infected by a virus that turned him into a zombie.
----
* AlternateSelf: Several alternate undead Venoms turn up in the [[ComicBook/SecretWars2015 Deadlands of Latverion]].
* DeadAlternateCounterpart: Well... ''undead'', since he's a zombie and all.
* EarlyInstallmentWeirdness: He dies from having a hole blasted through his chest, when later issues reveal that only the destruction of the brain can kill zombies.
* TorsoWithAView: Spider-Man kills him by blasting a hole through his chest with the Power Cosmic, which works for some reason.
* TheUndead: He's a zombified version of Venom. The symbiote proves immune to the zombie virus, but is incompatible with an undead host, leaving it to starve to death.
* YourDaysAreNumbered: The symbiote cannot live with a zombified host and is dying. Interestingly, alternate versions of Venom show up in ''Secret Wars'' without that limitation (though it's possible that the hosts were not yet decomposed enough to sicken their symbiotes, as a version of Carnage that appeared in the same series was shown to be so withered and dried out that he was almost totally incapable of moving).

* DeadpanSnarker: The symbiote has a dry sense of humor and constantly grips about not deserving its bad rap.
* HarmlessVillain: Owing to the comedic nature of the series, Eddie's actually a nice guy and his attempts to be a villain are laughably pathetic.
* GoKartingWithBowser: Eddie is content to stand around chatting with Spider-Man and the symbiote.
* JaggedMouth: When speaking separately from Eddie, the Venom symbiote has a jagged mouth.
* MinionWithAnFInEvil: He does the symbiote's bidding, but he's a genuinely nice person.
* PokeThePoodle: Eddie's attempts to satiate the symbiote's hunger are laughably pathetic, amounting to standing in line at a fast food restaurant and then ordering brains.
* ScaryTeeth: Eddie has a single, enormous tooth protruding from his lower jaw.
* SuperDeformed: Like all the Mini-Marvels characters, he's drawn with a giant head and tiny body.

After Peter Parker quit being Spider-Man, Venom began preparing for his inevitable return, enlisting the Sinister Six, cloning the symbiote, and setting up a security system named "WEBB" to prevent people from escaping New York, all while posing as the mayor's aid, Edward Saks. Thirty-five years later, Peter was brought out of retirement and Venom confronted him, berating him for rejecting and abandoning the symbiote. Venom launches his symbiote clone invasion but, given a detonator by Sandman, Spider-Man triggers the bombs Venom implanted in the Sinister Six, killing him.

Eddie Brock Jr. was a freelance photographer hired by the Bugle to take pictures of Spider-Man. and was looking to get the next big scoop so he could earn the cash to propose to his girlfriend, Gwen Stacy. Eddie proved more than a nuisance to both the Bugle staff and Spider-Man, distracting the latter during a bank-robbery conducted by Sandman and accidentally enabling the villain to escape. Spider-Man, made more aggressive by a symbiote bonded to him, smashed Eddie's camera in retribution, but Eddie got his revenge by digitally editing one of Peter Parker's pictures to make it look like ''Spider-Man'' was robbing the bank instead. A livid Peter, under the influence of the symbiote, exposed him as a fraud and coldly rebuked Eddie's pleas for leniency with "You want forgiveness? Get religion." Eddie was unceremoniously fired, and later that evening came across Gwen on a date with Peter, not realizing Peter was using her to make his ex-girlfriend Mary Jane jealous. Consumed by despair, Eddie followed Peter's advice and went to a nearby church to pray for God to kill Peter Parker, not aware that Spider-Man had gone to the same church to purge himself of the symbiote. Hearing Spider-Man struggling to remove the parasite, Eddie came to investigate just in time to discover that Spider-Man was Peter and for the symbiote to land on him. Taken over by the symbiote, Eddie sought out Sandman and after a brief scuffle proposed a deal to take down Spider-Man once and for all. Eddie and Sandman worked together to lure Spider-Man into a trap by kidnapping Mary Jane, and easily gained the upper hand until Harry Osborn arrived to back Peter up. Eddie impaled Harry with his own glider, and a furious Peter weakened the symbiote using a set of pipes and ripped Eddie out, throwing one of Harry's pumpkin bombs into it as it tried to escape. Eddie, addicted to the symbiote's power, flung himself back into it and both he and the symbiote were killed in the resulting explosion.

The childhood friend of Peter Parker, now a college student and the Connors' lab assistant, Eddie Brock became increasingly embittered and disgusted by what he sees as Peter's cowardice and greed after he first ran away from the rampaging Electro and later took photos of Spider-Man's fight with the Lizard, a transfigured Dr. Connors. With Gwen's coaxing, Eddie attempted to let bygones be bygones and renew his friendship with Peter. This lasted until a specimen of alien life sent to the Connors' lab disappeared during a brawl between Spider-Man and Black Cat, with photos of the fight taken by Peter Parker. Worse, without the funding granted to the lab to study the alien, the Connors could no longer afford to pay Eddie as their assistant.

Spider-Man - oblivious to Eddie's growing embitterment towards him, believed Black Cat had stolen the alien until she pointed out his costume had turned black, causing him to realize that the alien - a symbiote - had assimilated it. Finding it amplified his powers, Peter opted to keep the symbiote, using it to put a stop to the Chameleon's impersonation of him. When six of his enemies banded together to take him down, the symbiote took control of Peter in his sleep and ruthlessly dispatched them, nearly killing Doctor Octopus. Even when conscious, Peter became increasingly aggressive and callous, even accepting Tombstone's job offer to pay for his Aunt's hospital bills, until Flash Thompson of all people called him out on his behaviour. Peter realized the symbiote was negatively influencing him and managed to expel it from his body after he retreated to the bell-tower of an abandoned church and rung the bell, weakening the symbiote, and through a psychological struggle. He returned it back to ESU, where Eddie Brock was initially elated, but Spider-Man attempted to freeze the symbiote to death. That didn't work, and Eddie set the alien free, bonding to it and discovering his two enemies were one. As Venom, Eddie tormented Spider-Man until Peter exploited the symbiote's desire to re-bond with him, burying it in a pool of freshly-poured cement.

Eddie later tricked Spider-Man into revealing the symbiote's prison and revealed his identity as Peter Parker to the press, but was ultimately separated from the symbiote a second time using a sample of gene-clenser. Driven insane by his hatred for Spider-Man and desire for the symbiote, Eddie was arrested and sent to the Ravencroft Institute for the Criminally Insane.

In the 1980s, Deadpool was assigned to assassinate the Beyonder for fusing MODOK to Galactus' butt, but instead befriended the Jheri curled deity. When Spider-Man crashed the party trying to get rid of his symbiote costume and got iced in the process, Deadpool took the orphaned alien in and became Venompool. When the Beyonder ditched him, Venompool decided to start over and rid himself of his Jheri curls when he realized they were no longer in style. Wanting to boost his popularity, he took part in the Secret Wars, but was dissed by the Sentry. Deciding to fulfill his contract, Venompool acquired the Retcon Expungifier, the only weapon powerful enough to kill the Beyonder, and lured him to a game-show. Beyonder showed up with his girlfriend, Carnage Curl, who'd been spawned from Venompool's lopped off hair and become his archenemy. Galactus showed up, revealing he was the baby-daddy and sparking a fight that destroyed the Earth, which Venompool undid with the Retcon Expungifier.

Finally popular and the star of his own movie, Venompool realized that people aside from himself were popular and went on a year-long rampage, killing all but a few superpowered individuals. In the midst of an existential crisis, Venompool realized that the Beyonder's rejection had left him with an inferiority complex and that to grow as a person he needed to embrace his true self. Believing his true self to be an irredeemable asshole and not wanting to learn from his mistakes, Venompool used the Retcon Expungifier to destroy the universe, and seemingly himself along with it.

Thought destroyed, a sample was acquired by Harry Osborn, who used it to become Symbiote Spider-Man in an effort to gain his father's approval. His pent-up anger issues caused him to quickly lose control of the symbiote, becoming the monstrous Venom, and he made repeated attempts on Norman's life, coming into conflict with Spider-Man's team. After Harry gave up the symbiote, it was acquired by the Green Goblin, who attempted to use it to destroy SHIELD and empower himself. The original suit was contained and destroyed, but Otto Octavius created a second batch which made its way into the hands of Flash Thompson, who permanently bonded to it and used it to become the heroic Agent Venom.

* FallenHero: Addy was meant to supplement SP//dr as a protector of the city, but was absorbed by the Sym Engine and became Peni's version of Venom.
* FanDisillusionment: She was originally a huge SP//dr fan (she even had a SP//dr backpack), but when Peni brushed her off for asking a personal question about her pilot career,[[note]]Peni's superhero career as SP//dr was supposed to be a secret, and she had been kept in the dark about not being the only mech pilot -- something Addy was unaware of.[[/note]] Addy thought of Peni as a stuck-up jerk. As VEN#m, she's hellbent on destroying her teammate/idol and tells her she always knew she was weak.
* NiceGirl: Unlike Eddie, Addy genuinely wanted to be friends with Peni and was an enthusiastic defender of humanity.
* RivalTurnedEvil: Rather sadly inverted. Addy initially just wanted to be friends with Peni, but Peni blew her off after Addy asked her about her life as the pilot of SP//dr. When the VEN#m mech absorbed the poor girl, it told Peni that Addy [[BrokenPedestal came to resent her and thinks of her as weak]].
* {{Robeast}}: The VEN#m mech turns into one after the biomechanical Sym Engine takes it over, its faceplate opening into a fanged maw a la [[Anime/NeonGenesisEvangelion Evangelion Unit-01]], with a prehensile tongue formed from intertwined tendrils.
* RoyalWe: Both mech and girl start speaking traditional Venom as they become one.
* UncertainDoom: After being defeated by SP//dr, VEN#m is presumably shipped into storage by Oscorp. While she might be alive and imprisoned somewhere, she has yet to return, so it's not clear.

* AdaptationalBadass: This version of Venom is bar none the most powerful version of the character ever seen and the only Klyntar more powerful than him is All-Black, the original Klyntar forged from Knull's own shadow, when he took the form of All-Black the Necroverse. This Venom is truly immortal, being near 2 trillion years old before meeting his death at his own hands, being capable of storing the mental imprints, memories, genetic codes, and any powers of a whole universe's biological life, he is able to spread his bio-matter without limit, bonding to an infinity of hosts and engulfing entire planets, use genetically-enhanced superpowers to populated entire galaxies, effortlessly terraform worlds, create ultra-tough gene-crafted lifeforms, view across the entire universe using the senses of his hive-minded hosts, outspeed the near-infinite processing capacities of the artificial super-intelligences, and time-travel across the entire timeline and bond to every biological organism that ever lived, and unfold his internal tesseract space into a world-annihilating super-weapon.
* ArmCannon: It figures out how to turn its arms into planet-destroying antimatter cannons.
* ChestInsignia: Instead of the traditional spider there's a stylized DNA strand.
* CompositeCharacter: This version of Venom seems to have taken the place of Mania (Venom's clone-offspring) in having bonded to Wolverine and Patricia Robertson, neither of whom bonded with Venom in the original universe.
* DangerousForbiddenTechnique: In a desperate war against a super AI collective that had taken over the Milky Way and was trying to destroy all organic life, Venom developed the ability to partially unravel its transdimensional tesseract-like internal structure to destroy entire planets with a single swipe of his arms, but doing so caused it extreme pain and put it at constant risk of tearing itself apart. To combat the infinitely superior computing speeds of the Godmind, Venom remixed and vastly empowered Quicksilver's DNA to fight and act faster than any AI, but this took a massive toll on its hosts, ageing them by centuries in a few seconds.
* FutureBadass: Venom in this timeline has the sum total of knowledge and genetic potential of everything that has ever lived. It eventually works out how to manipulate its own extradimensional physiology in a martial art to ''erase matter'' on a subatomic level with the range to cleave planets. Employing its infinite store of genetic information, it can recreate and splice the abilities its hosts possessed -- with particular focus being given to mutant abilities like Multiple Man's infinite duplication, Tempus and Timeslip's time travel, Quicksilver's super-speed, Storm's weather control, Wolverine and Deadpool's healing factors, Elixer's biological modification to further refine those abilities; as well as the natural abilities of incredibly hardy life like tardigrades.
* HeroicSacrifice: After its army of genetically-engineered super-humanoids has been wiped out by the Godmind, it turns itself inside out and transforms into a miniature universe where every host it's ever had is reborn into new lives.
* HyperspaceArsenal: As a living tesseract it has infinite storage space, mainly used for storing genetic information.
* OneTrueLove: Out of every host it's ever had, Eddie is the only one given five stars in compatibility and the only one it pines for after untold eons.
* MindHive: Retains the full psyche of every host it's ever had.
* PowerCopying: Can freely recreate the powers and skills of any host it ever had, which is everything that ever lived.
* ReallyGetsAround: Has bonded with all forms of life across the universe. They all get four of five stars in compatibility, barring [[TheUnfavorite Peter Parker]] and [[OneTrueLove Eddie Brock]].
* TimeAbyss: Has lived for an immeasurable amount of time, well past the death of all other organic life on the universe.
* TimeyWimeyBall: Applying the time travel powers of mutants, it took on ''every living thing'' in the universe as a host. It also tried to change the past to prevent the rising of the Godmind, but failed.
* TheUnfavorite: The only host in all the history of the universe with a grand total of '''one''' star for compatibility is, naturally, Peter Parker himself. Even ''Tel-Kar'' still got four stars.
* WhoWantsToLiveForever: Tragically doomed to outlive all its hosts, especially Eddie after years of desperately trying to extend his life.
* WeaponizedOffspring: In its campaign to stem the expansion of the Godmind it engineers countless armies spliced with the abilities in its genetic stores.
* WeaponizedTeleportation: Exploiting the fact that its body is an interdimensional aperture into an infinite space, controlled rips in its body can be made which opens an extradimensional space into a three-dimensional one, deleting matter in the overlapping area on the subatomic level.

After her ex-husband Eddie Brock committed suicide, Anne Weying ventured into Our Lady of Saints Church - where she bonded to the symbiote once worn by Spider-Man and became Venom. Years later, Anne had put aside her grudge against Spider-Man and became the symbiote super-soldier Agent Venom, but discovered she was mysteriously pregnant. Giving birth to a son she named Dylan, she tried to raise him on her own but lost him to the dark god Knull.\
Once Dylan became the supervillain Codex and began conquering the world using clones of her symbiote, Anne was recruited into a team of symbiote super-soldiers by Rex Strickland and President Eugene Thompson, alongside Carnage, Spider-Man, Deadpool, and Mania. As Codex conquered the world, assimilating heroes and villains alike into his hive, Anne and her team were forced underground -- eventually becoming the last remnants of humanity.
----
* AlternateSelf: This version of Anne Weying became Venom instead of Eddie Brock, and later on became Agent Venom after being recruited into a taskforce of symbiote-augmented supersoldiers.
* BefriendingTheEnemy: Anne and Cletus Kasady were once enemies, but Carnage was one of the first recruits for the Sym-Soldier Program and managed to overcome his bloodlust with a lot of training. When Earth-616 Eddie flies into a rage at the sight of Cletus, Anne steps between them and sets Eddie straight.
* BigGood: She shows up throughout ''ComicBook/ExtremeVenomverse'' and ''Webcomic/EdgeOfVenomverseUnlimited'' to [[AllianceOfAlternates recruit alternate incarnations of Venom]] to help stop Earth-616's Carnage [[ComicBook/DeathOfTheVenomverse from destroying the Multiverse]], offering to help train them to control their own symbiotes.
* CrusadingWidower: Or widow in Anne's case, as a possible call-back to the original concept for Venom. In Anne's universe, Eddie Brock committed suicide after the Sin-Eater Incident. Consumed with rage towards everyone involved -- including herself for not having been able to stop Eddie, Anne broke into Our Lady of Saints Church and was found by the Venom symbiote. From there she presumably hounded Spider-Man for his unwitting role in Eddie's suicide, but she and Peter have since made amends and work together.
* DistaffCounterpart: Anne's backstory serves as one to Earth-616's Eddie Brock, and at present she serves as one to Earth-616's Flash Thompson.
* MilitarySuperhero: At some point Anne adopted the codename Agent Venom and turned her symbiote into body armor. When her son became Codex and declared war on humanity, she was recruited into the Sym-Soldier Program by President Eugene Thompson and given military training by Tyrannosaurus (Rex Strickland).
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: She ends ''ComicBook/DeathOfTheVenomverse'' distraught with the realization that all her efforts to stop Carnage did was [[spoiler:help it accomplish its goals and get her son killed]].
* MysticalPregnancy: In a flashback scene, she confides in Spider-Man that she's somehow pregnant despite not having been in a relationship for some time, turning down his offer to run some tests out of fear she wouldn't like what she finds. Sure enough, her immaculately-conceived son, Dylan, turns out to be a human-symbiote hybrid and falls under Knull's control to become Codex.
* RebelLeader: Although she insists she's "just an agent", Anne became the de-facto leader of the Sym-Soldiers following Tyrannosaurus' death; leading Agent Spider-Man, Agent Carnage, Agent Deadpool, and Agent Mania in the fight against Codex.
* ThisCannotBe: Anne is shocked to see Earth-616's Eddie Brock, as her own ex-husband had committed suicide, and initially believes him to be an agent of Codex.

* BigNo: After [[spoiler:Aunt May's house explodes with her inside,]] Peter lets out a scream of "No!" before trailing into {{Little No}}s as the symbiote tries to console him.
* TheCorruptible: Peter -- physically and mentally exhausted -- becomes increasingly prone to violent outbursts, with the symbiote haunting his dreams attempting to twist him into an UnscrupulousHero. [[spoiler:It succeeds when the Hobgoblin kills Aunt May just as Peter was reconciling with her.]]
* GainingTheWillToKill: After unmasking the Hobgoblin as Roderick Kingsley, the symbiote urges Spider-Man to kill him but he refuses and settles for threatening him instead. [[spoiler:After the Hobgoblin kills Aunt May, Spider-Man crushes Kingsley's skull in retribution and goes on to brutally murder several other members of his rogues gallery.]]
* HairTriggerTemper: Days of little-to-no sleep plagued by extreme nightmares, compounded by the symbiote's corruptive influence, have made Peter more than a little cranky.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: After [[spoiler:being separated from the symbiote, Peter is horrified by what he'd done under its influence]].
* UnscrupulousHero:
** Peter decides to try his hand at being a TerrorHero, but this fails to dissuade the Hobgoblin, [[spoiler:who murders Aunt May in front of him. Peter furiously returns the favor by crushing Kingsley's skull, accepting the symbiote's advice that he can't make an omelette without breaking a few eggs]].
** Peter describes the Venom symbiote as not being evil, but wanting to carry out his desire to help people while not understanding that or why killing people is morally wrong.
* WhatTheHellHero: Instead of freaking out upon learning the symbiote is alive, Peter calmly accepts this and berates Mister Fantastic for wanting to lock it up and experiment on it.

* HeroicHost: It's implied that Miles initially had the Venom and Carnage symbiotes under control, with some of the covers and concept art showing him in a slimmer sleek form as opposed to his bulky Venomized/Carnageized form.
* InTheHood: With the symbiotes under control, Miles manifests a slick-looking red-trimmed hood that connects to his spider emblem. With them out of control, the hood becomes a rim of crimson spikes surrounding his head, capable of extending into SpiderLimbs and CombatTentacles at-will.
* MeatPuppet: Miles bonded to the Venom and Carnage symbiotes, but has seemingly been brainwashed into being one of Apocalypse's enforcers and given in to the symbiotes' bloodlust.
* NoBodyLeftBehind: In issue #4, [[spoiler:Symbiote Spider-Man easily incapacitates Wolverine, Honey Badger, and Blade... but Venom and Carnage are easily separated from Miles by Iron Woman (Pepper Potts)'s flamethrower and vaporized by Storm's lightning]].
* RedAndBlackAndEvilAllOver: Miles' symbiote is a gestalt of Venom and Carnage, and thus appears predominantly black with red markings; and as one of Apocalypse's enforcers, he's a bloodthirsty monster who sees his former friends as [[ToServeMan nothing more than prey]].
