-> ''Several months have passed since that night that shattered my world into pieces. Yet I still recall every detail as if it was yesterday. The shouts, the fighting. The dead. Running. Vico...''

The protagonist and narrator of the story. At the beginning she's a young girl, still a maiden and the heir to the King of Betancuria's throne, accustomed to living a sheltered life of luxury in a castle. Until the war with Dhorn. After the massacre of Betancuria Castle, Dhorn forces occupy Betancuria and she's forced into hiding. As the story progresses, the Princess matures and gains the knowledge and skills to become a rogue and ruler of her own fate.

----

* ActionGirl: Actually a lot less so than most {{player character}}s, though - you really have to earn it, at the beginning a non-maxed-for-combat character (like the standard one provided) could easily be chewed up by rats (or molested by anyone, a recurring theme), and even as you gain combat proficiency, fighting is still often either a more difficult option or doable only due to your other companions' support. It's even actively discouraged by giving negligible experience for opponents vanquished and much more for using rogue skills. Still, there's no denying the character grows into this. It's even lampshaded.
* AffectionateNickname: A few may be given to the Princess by her companions, depending often on her relationship with them.
* AntiHero: It's quite easy to be a very evil and selfish Princess and even a good aligned one still has to resort to thievery and trickery.
* AttemptedRape: It's possible to get out of every single assault. Except the very first one.
* BadassBookworm: With a high enough Lore skill she’ll show herself to be quite learned and will often use the knowledge she had gained from reading in the past to her advantage.
* BattleCouple: The Princess and her lover, if she chooses one.
* BeastOfBattle: In the Golden Ending the Princess may get to keep a friendly hellhound. That breathes fire.
* BeautyIsNeverTarnished: The Princess is raped, molested, injured and tortured throughout the course of the story, but that doesn't affect how she is the subject of lust from a lot of male (and even female) characters she encounters.
* BestialityIsDepraved: That includes the option for sexual counters with several canines. By the point she gains the hellhound mentioned below, she could be told it will probably try to mate with her and she can say that she is cool with that. In a previous patch version, she also had the opportunity to mate with a dragon in its dragon form.
* BigNo: Several times, usually during some very troubling nightmares or visions she experiences.
* BodyguardCrush: The Princess with Private Perry, if she so chooses.
* BreakTheCutie: Multiple times.
* BrokenBird: The Princess can be interpreted this way, with Vico's insistence on calling her 'birdie' certainly bringing this trope to mind.
* BrotherSisterIncest: A small bit of optional dialogue during the Ravenstower chapter reveals that the Princess's maternal grandparents were also brother and sister... this is rather confusing, as her grandmother is also said to have been a cleric.
* CatchPhrase: In part 1: "Stupid X".
* CharacterDevelopment: Depends on how you play the game, but there's always some. It’s even lampshaded a few times.
* CrazyPrepared: You have a huge and diverse arsenal of clothes, tools, potions, jewelry, weapons and whatnot buyable or otherwise obtainable from day one. Having the right mix of equipment is typically much more significant to your success chances than your character's stats or class levels.
* DamselInDistress: At the beginning.
* DeadpanSnarker: Quite a few dialogue options allow her to be played as one.
* DealWithTheDevil: The deal with the Old Man near the end. Even the name of the related quest in the Princess' journal is called ''A Dance with the Devil''.
* DefiledForever: The Princess's rape by Vico at the beginning, and the loss of her virginity as a result, is somewhat treated like this.
* DePower: [[spoiler: Towards the end of Part 2, all your gear loses all its magic properties, with no warning, making you suddenly a heck of a lot weaker than you were five minutes ago.]]
* DidWeJustHaveTeaWithCthulhu: The Princess can befriend Hyath, a Demon Lord. This can lead to outright surreal scenes such as having him pet her head with his huge prank, where she can respond with a snarky-affectionate "Hey, watch the claws!". There is also a scene much later where she has reason to be mad at him and the Demon Lord almost sheepishly asks if they're still friends. [[spoiler: Of course, he does betray her later on. [[AlternateCharacterInterpretation Maybe]]. Given the events of the GoldenEnding, he might actually, ultimately just have honored their friendship by helping the Princess in a [[SparingThemTheDirtyWork very roundabout and twisted way.]]]]
* TheDitz: The player character may be played as this, with many of her dialogue options being very naïve and childish. The number of foolish decisions she'll be forced to make at times certainly don't help.
* DontYouDarePityMe: Can act this way towards people trying to sympathize with her predicament.
* EnemyMine: With a couple of Dhorn against Arto Benthur near the end of Part One. Can also consider Vico this.
* EthicalSlut / ReallyGetsAround: Can be played this way or not. Alternatively, she can even be played as a CelibateHero.
* EvenTheGirlsWantHer: It’s not just men that are attracted to her.
* ExtremeOmnisexual: Can be played this way. If not, she may feel she's [[SoBeautifulItsACurse a little too pretty.]]
* FallenPrincess: After the Dhorn slaughter her parents and everyone else that lived with her in the castle, she's dragged into a thieves' guild and forced to earn her living among commoners and criminals by working for them and becoming a thief and spy.
* FemmeFataleSpy: There are optional quests in Part One that allow her to play this role with a Dhorn.
* FiveFingerDiscount: Pickpocketing is an integral part of some quests and can be very helpful in many situations.
* FluffyTamer: Vicious attack dogs seem to get attached to her easily and the Princess has the options to call them cute and want to keep them. Especially a [[{{Hellhound}} fire-breathing one]] near the end.
%% * FragileSpeedster: While the game has leeway in choosing character classes, the module was mainly built for creating a rogue/shadowdancer character, making the Princess a stealthy force to be reckoned with.
%% ** Because the Princess's physical form is determined by her CON score, this is a necessity for those wishing to play a Princess with a more lithe and maidenlike body as opposed to a very curvy figure.
* FullFrontalAssault: Nothing prevents the player to fight totally naked. This is sometimes enforced in a few of the NoGearLevel parts of the module, when the player ''must'' fight while deprived of clothes.
* GoingCommando: There are many dialog options where, at some point, the Princess can choose to answer that she doesn't wear panties.
* GoGoEnslavement: The embarrassing gladiator outfit she’s given in the Underdark. When they’re not keeping her outright naked, that is.
* GroinAttack: She can do this several times to men, in order to escape their clutches. It usually works, the only exception being when Vico rapes her at the beginning, since it is a scripted event and thus it is impossible to prevent him from doing so. Kicking him then just makes him more mad and he beats the Princess into submission. [[spoiler:The same tactic works with him later on, however, if the Princess wants him to let her go in the Dwarven Inn, where he will attempt to have sex with her if she's been nice to him up to that point.]]
* HatesBeingTouched: Dialogue allows her to be played this way many times, since a lot of men that show interest in her tend to try and touch her without permission, even if it's just stroking her arm suggestively.
* HeKnowsTooMuch: In Part One the Princess may come across a man who recognizes her true identity and wouldn't keep quiet about it, since he and his wife were avid supporters of the Betancuria royal family. The Princess can lure him in an alley to kill him herself, or she can let Master Nathan know and take care of it.
* HeroicSacrifice: [[spoiler: The Princess can choose to sacrifice herself in order to destroy many of the Dhorn, in one of the endings.]]
* HowTheMightyHaveFallen: She's a princess that loses everything and everyone in one night.
* HypercompetentSidekick: In Christiano's sidequest, you're a hireling. You've also got a lot more brains in your head than Christiano and his girlfriend together, and they're [[OnlySaneEmployee holding you responsible for the success of the mission and for each other's safety]]. Fortunately, they do know how to take orders (or at least to stay back while you scout ahead in stealth mode and disarm traps) and can fight effectively enough.
* IdenticalGranddaughter: A dwarf merchant in Betancuria will mention the Princess (without knowing her true identity) looks exactly like a Cleric adventurer he used to travel with many years ago. As he describes the Cleric's life it becomes clear he's talking about the Princess' maternal grandmother, as he mentions one of her youngest daughters married the King of Betancuria.
** Becomes a bit confusing, as some optional dialogue in the Ravenstower chapter indicates that the PC's maternal grandmother was a noblewoman who [[BrotherSisterIncest was married to her own brother]].
* IJustWantToHaveFriends: Can be played this way, but even if not picking specific dialogue choices, the character herself expresses feelings of loneliness several times in monologue, although she can try to repress them. One good example is if she shares with Caron what happened between her and Vico the night Betancuria fell. After Caron apologizes for making her feel uncomfortable with his previous lewd comments, the Princess can admit she wants Caron to be her friend, since the scene takes place at a time when she has no one close to her but [[ParentalSubstitute Chella]].
* ImpoverishedPatrician: Goes from being a sheltered royal princess to a street rat in the course of one traumatic night.
* InnocenceLost: However innocent and sheltered she's been, it all starts to crumble the minute the Dhorn storm her father's castle.
* InternalizedCategorism: Some dialogue options may allow her to view herself as shamed and “tainted” by Vico’s rape and the loss of her virginity, expressing the opinion that no one would truly love her because of this. Of course, most other characters are quick to disagree.
* ItsAllMyFault: If Bran is in the party after their capture and escape in the Underdark, she can admit to him she feels guilty and responsible for the whole ordeal. He disagrees and points out why she shouldn't blame herself.
* JumpingOffTheSlipperySlope: Can happen to her, depending on how she's played. Given just how much crap she goes through, plus that it's a module about rogues where stealing inherently gives Chaotic alignment points, as well as several quests being rather dark in the nature of the task, even a Princess starting out as LawfulGood may find herself being labelled ChaoticEvil by the end of the game. In fact, with how crappy the world and circumstances she has to deal with are, someone genuinely roleplaying a character could very well end up playing her as more hostile, aggressive and bloodthirsty as the game progresses due to her having increasingly fewer sanctuaries left but her own abilities of combat and stealth.
* KleptomaniacHero: Playing this way will quickly send you plunging to the Chaotic end of the OrderVersusChaos meter.
* LastOfHerKind: The Princess is the last known living member of Betancuria's royal line.
* LoveMartyr: If the Princess starts a relationship with Vico, especially if played as a kindhearted person towards him and others, their relationship carries some traits of this trope, not to mention that their first meeting and Vico's subsequent behavior were less than cordial. Once they officially get together, he does seem to care for her and [[spoiler:even comes to accept the fact that she carries his baby and assures her he won't leave her.]] However, when compared to the other available romantic relationships, the relationship with Vico heavily emphasizes the physical part (i.e. sex) and Vico's interest in the Princess seems only based on her appearance, his lust and the pleasure he derives from sleeping with her, rather than any appreciation for her personality. He also remains a jerk to everyone except the Princess and doesn't change his views on life, and may sometimes physically hurt her during sex by doing something he likes, even against her wishes. And although he seems saddened by [[spoiler:having to fight her to the death in the Pits, he doesn't even consider telling her he can [[FakingTheDead feign death]] so that both have a chance to live through it, but instead apologizes for having to kill her and fights her.]] The Princess can call him out on that when they meet later, but Vico just dismisses it and [[QuitYourWhining thinks she's taking it way too hard]]. During all these situations the Princess has the potential to play this trope to its fullest by overlooking his actions and happily accepting him, despite what the other companions may say.
* LustObject: To quite a few people.
* MadeASlave: In the Underdark.
* MafiaPrincess: How Tony Blake treats her during their relation (unless you skip this sidequest). He promises the Princess to shower her with gifts and jewels when he asks her to be his girlfriend when they first meet, and the time they leave together has a sequence when he makes you try some beautiful clothes that he eventually buys for her.
* MartialPacifist: There’s the option to show reluctance to fight or kill many times via dialogue options. Or at least remorse if the deed is done. The module encourages this in many ways such as most missions involving sneaking, stealing or persuading / lying to / or optionally sometimes sleeping with your enemies, rather than attacking and killing them all. The latter usually makes the game either much harder or downright impossible to finish.
* MistakenForProstitute: Happens quite a lot to her, especially in Part One at the harbor area. Of course, she ''can'' go along with it and act as a real one, if she so wishes.
* MoralityPet: The Princess is, to some extent, able to become this to many of the criminals and other characters of questionable morality in the game.
* MorningSickness: [[spoiler: It happens in scripted events and not in the morning after waking up, but it is the first of them which reveals the Princess pregnancy. However, this only happens if she's chosen Vico as a lover.]]
* NobleFugitive: Due to her being the heir to Betancuria, she's hunted by the Dhorn, Arto Benthur in particular.
* NoteToSelf: Not involving amnesia, but rather the Princess makes a mental note ''not'' to drink any tea Christiano offers her, after he admits to putting sleeping drugs in Myra's tea.
* PaperThinDisguise: How to enter in the Westwood Dungeon? By wearing a ''really'' unfitting outfit stolen from a Dhorn officer and knocking on the door. Although it has to be done at night, when the visibility is really low.
* ParalyzingFearOfSexuality: Some dialogue allows for this and it can be justified considering the Princess’ rape experience.
* PastExperienceNightmare: Given what she’s been through, it’s not surprising she’s suffering from these.
* PhraseCatcher: "Well, dead X now".
* PresentCompanyExcluded: After the final dark elf attack on their escape party in the Underdark, the Princess can say she wishes never to see another dark elf again. To Rizzen's reaction she can use this trope.
* ProfessionalKiller: Can become an assassin for the Family.
* ThePornomancer: Depending on how the player plays her.
* PregnantBadass: [[spoiler: When she becomes pregnant (in the romance with Vico), the Princess doesn't really suffer from any disadvantages, except some scripted sickness a couple of times. Discovering her pregnancy doesn't stop her from acting the same way, although Vico advices her to be careful.]]
* PromiscuityAfterRape: If the player chooses to play her this way, she plays it straight. Otherwise, it can be completely averted.
* PrettyPrincessPowerhouse: This trope is downplayed because she had no idea how to fight when she was a princess; that came after she lost her title. Although she can still act like it.
* RapeAndRevenge: It's left to the player whether the Princess pursues this or not, since there is the option to kill pretty much each and every one of the perpetrators.
* RapeAsDrama: There are a ''ton'' of bad situations that the Princess can get herself into that result in her being abused and sexually assaulted.
** As stated by the lesson with Pia regarding seduction and having "to play along" in her missions, the Princess gets better chances to survive if she beds that mission's specific character. Choosing not to usually gets her in an {{Unwinnable|ByDesign}} pursuit of guards or a powerful character. It is rather a SadisticChoice, and the Princess can bring up afterwards how traumatized she was, with the Moonville infiltration as the best example.
* {{Revenge}}: Almost everyone who manhandles the Princess, be it a human molester or a drow inquisitor can be killed by the Princess later, usually as part of a quest. [[spoiler:Vico too. It's even possible to kill him ''twice'']].
* SaveThePrincess: Inverted. The princess is the ActionGirl, who often ends up saving other characters, including [[DamselInDistress Pia repeatedly]].
* SexSlave: Can become one for a while near the end of the game if she [[spoiler:isn't careful in the orc camp]].
* ShamefulStrip: ''Every time'' the Princess gets captured, she is stripped naked from all her clothes and items.
* ShamelessFanserviceGirl / ReluctantFanserviceGirl: She can be played as the former, otherwise she falls into the latter category.
* ShellShockedVeteran: She isn't a fighter at the start of the game, but still survived a war, witnessed most of the slaughter of Betancuria Castle and became a rape victim all in the same night. It's up to the player how much the sexual assault affected her (since she can at least behave as if it doesn't), but it is shown the Princess definitely suffers from PTSD due to her parents' deaths and the overall violence she experienced. She herself says through monologue that she had terrible nightmares every night during the first few months after the event, apparently continues to have them since several are shown in cutscenes later in the game, and since there are more traumatic happenings during the progression of the story, she also admits feelings of numbness and emptiness during some shocking experiences, like [[spoiler:the aftermath of her duel to the death with Vico in the Pits, when she at first believes she really killed him, and if she doesn't manage to save the Earl of Delberg from the orcs.]] The Princess herself can lampshade it at some point, as she hopes all the events aren't making her lose her mind.
* ShelteredAristocrat: Her first reaction upon finally stepping outside into the city is to curiously take in the surroundings, recalling how she was never allowed by her father to go among the commoners for fear of her safety.
* ShrinkingViolet: [[Blush]] is a legit dialogue option.
* SilkHidingSteel: Nothing stops her from still acting like a proper highborn lady, even though she’s now quite capable of handling weapons.
* SingleWomanSeeksGoodMan: If she chooses to romance Anden, Bran or [[GayOption Pia]].
* SleepingTheirWayToTheTop: She's often accused of seducing [[TheDon Master Nathan]] and sleeping her way up in the [[TheMafia Family]] ranks. It is only partly true: while she does use her charms and sexy skills a lot, it's only to complete her missions for the Family when her brains and brawn prove ineffective, so every RankUp she earns, she earns the hard way. Master Nathan, for his part, is one of the [[AllMenArePerverts few men]] who never, ever views her as anything but an [[ParentalSubstitute adoptive daughter]].
* SlippingAMickey: The Princess can use a spiked drink to get past Earl Delberg's personal guard.
* SoBeautifulItsACurse: Seriously, the males in the game that ''don't'' leer at her, hit on her, or try to have sex with her can probably be counted on one hand.
* SociopathicHero: The game allows the Princess many opportunities to act cruelly if she wishes and it will be acknowledged by a few characters in-game.
* StealthHiBye: ''Hide in Plain Sight'' is the best hit-and-run tactic a shadowdancer Princess can take advantage of.
* SurprisePregnancy: [[spoiler: It only happens if she took Vico along for the remainder of the game.]]
* TeamMom: She can occasionally be this to her companions by being protective of them and easing tensions in the party, especially during the heated arguments between Pia and Rizzen in the Isle of Prisoners dungeon.
* TakingYouWithMe: [[spoiler: One of the Princess's options at the end is to commit suicide, and at the same time take down a looot of people in Dhorn as well...]]
* ThirdPersonSeductress: The Princess sure knows how to flaunt her stuff.
** Of course, one can find themselves getting attached to their Princess for [[TheWoobie entirely different reasons]], especially with how the many dialogue options allow for a surprising amount of characterization and depth.
* TookALevelInBadass: Particularly with the shadowdancer or assassin prestige classes.
** A Rogue/Assassin/Blackguard build is optimal for an evil princess, being able to equip any armor or shield and almost all basic weaponry. The highlight is that the sneak attacks from ''both'' Rogue and Blackguard as well as the Assassin death attacks ''add up'' for malevolent combined damage.
* TraumaCongaLine: The whole game seems to be one traumatic event and humiliation for the Princess after another.
* UtilityPartyMember: The module is geared towards the Princess being played as a sneaky skill monkey to whatever combat-oriented companions you happen to travel with, to the point where you gain [[NonCombatEXP more XP from using skills]] than from defeating enemies.
* WhatTheHellHero: While your party members have (hilariously) various reactions on the Princess walking around naked, or in lingerie, never do so in the eyes of the Dhorn or the common people, nor sheath out your weapons in public.
** If she acts cruelly, she'll be called out on it by her good aligned companions and occasionally even some of the more evil ones like Rizzen.
* WillNotBeAVictim: She can choose to fight her captors or run in most situations, instead of submitting.
* YankTheDogsChain: The Princess finds a great love interest potential in Tony Blake, to the point they are engaged halfway through his sidequest. [[spoiler: Until the Sargozian smugglers double-cross Tony during the night, brutally killing him and his household, burning his mansion and leaving the Princess for dead.]]

->''...And the little bird even sings. I wonder what song you'd sing if the Dhorn chasing after you had caught you.''

A capable and loyal enforcer of the Family and the one who saves the Princess from the Dhorn at the beginning of the game... only to rape her and drag her into the Family with him afterwards. A cruel, violent and mysterious man, he likes to bully people and take what he wants by force or intimidation, rarely showing concern for anyone but himself.

----

* AllGirlsWantBadBoys: Notable case, because it's even lampshaded that his dark demeanor and personality is what attracts many women to him.
%% * AntiVillain: If not an outright villain that is.
* AxCrazy: Has shades of this. [[spoiler:Becomes this trope straight up later, if he isn’t picked as a lover by the Princess.]]
* BadGuysDoTheDirtyWork: He's often called upon by the Family to handle more ''messy'' jobs.
* BloodKnight: Loves fighting and killing to the point of sometimes starting fights just for fun. He also wears a full black heavy armor and is actually thought of as a "dark knight" by both the Princess and a fortuneteller in Betancuria.
* BrutalHonesty: He's pretty vocal about everything and doesn't take people's feelings into consideration when voicing his opinion. Or he could just like insulting and baiting them.
* TheBrute: A more intelligent example, but nevertheless he’s rightfully considered one of the Family’s most brutal and intimidating enforcers.
%% * ByronicHero: A darker version.
* BystanderSyndrome: He’s not interested in helping people in need and will show utter boredom or complain if the Princess does so.
* TheCasanova: It’s mentioned a lot of women found him attractive and there was always a willing wench available to him. Pia even claims he would usually keep a few around as playthings and many women sought him out willingly, rather than Vico having to seduce them.
* ClusterFBomb: His usual way of talking, even more so when angry. Then you probably won’t hear a sentence ''without'' the word “fuck” from him.
* ComeWithMeIfYouWantToLive: When you meet him. Unfortunately, he has a price and doesn’t care about your opinion either way.
* CrazyJealousGuy: Vico threatens a few of the Princess' male friends or companions well before she can actually accept or reject his advances. [[spoiler:Later it can become much worse, if she doesn't romance him, as he'll try to kill her as well.]]
* DeadpanSnarker: At times.
* DirtyOldMan: While he's not that old, according to the ADWR wiki his age is somewhere around mid thirties to mid forties. Since he was apparently involved with a sixteen year old girl, Vico falls into this trope. Canonically, the Princess isn't much older than the girl mentioned, so the fact that he lusts after her can count as well.
* DistressedDude: [[spoiler: Captured in the Underdark.]]
* EntitledBastard: Believes the Princess should be grateful to him for saving her life, despite that he raped her and generally treated her like crap afterwards.
* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: Despite claiming not to care about anyone and generally being one of the most unpleasant people you have to deal with, Vico may admit he did care for a few people that the Dhorn killed the night Betancuria fell, particularly a kitchen girl named Shanna that used to work in the castle. [[spoiler:He may also admit that losing so much to the war was the reason he decided to kill, but instead ultimately raped the Princess, as he was robbed of the chance to kill the person he thought responsible - her father]].
* EvenEvilHasStandards: He’s utterly disgusted by [[spoiler:Cata’s collaboration with the Dhorn]] and doesn’t consider accepting her plan to [[spoiler:leave Nathan and the others]] for a second.
* FakingTheDead: [[spoiler: Does this after taking too many wounds during his fight with the Princess in the Pits, in order to stay alive, as the fight is required to be to the death.]]
* FantasticRacism: Vico doesn't like dwarves and takes every occasion to say it if he is in the party with a dwarf, or if he is in the party when talking to a dwarf. He’s also not particularly fond of gnomes, kobolds and dark elves, though everyone in the party has a reason to dislike the last two, [[MadeASlave while they’re in the Underdark]].
* FatalFlaw: It’s a combination of several, actually, that can potentially lead to his downfall. His lust for the Princess, combined with his [[{{Jerkass}} cruelty and inability to deal with people]], and his bad temper and tendency to become [[RevengeBeforeReason obsessed with revenge]]. All these will lead to [[spoiler:Vico eventually leaving the group if he hasn’t been romanced, as he’ll either start blaming the Princess for his capture in the Underdark, or his confrontation with Bran will bring out his violent streak and a thirst for vengeance against Bran and the Princess. This will eventually end in either the Princess killing him, or, if she spares him, his determination to stalk her through the Underdark will get him killed by a group of dark elves and later killed by the Princess, when he attacks her in the Planes.]]
* FreudianExcuse: He has one in his background, which he'll only briefly share if romanced and asked. [[spoiler:Apparently, he grew up alone on the streets and worked really hard to survive and become one of the best enforcers in the Family, which in turn allowed him to lead a hedonistic lifestyle that he liked. However, this also seems to have made him very selfish and insensitive to other people's feelings, even though he had a few people he really cared for. And then the war with Dhorn started, which began to ruin everything he worked so hard to have, including losing some people that were close to him. This made Vico fly in a rage, due to the King allowing it to happen and not evacuating the castle when it became obvious it would fall. As a result Vico snuck in to kill the King himself, but when he was too late, he opted to exact his revenge by disemboweling the Princess. When she wakes up before he could do so, he finds he's unable to kill her and becomes even more angry at himself and her, so he does the next thing that comes to his mind - rape her.]] Although all these happenings don't excuse him, they still provide a reason for what he did and does, as they show how he may have come to have such an unstable mind.
* TheFriendNobodyLikes: There aren’t ''any'' companions that like him or get along with him.
* GirlOnGirlIsHot: When Norah jokingly flirts with the Princess, Vico quips that if the girls would then make out, he will die a happy man.
* GoodIsBoring: May even yawn or ask “Are you done yet?” if the Princess helps a few people. Or say she’s no fun if she refuses a violent approach to something. He’ll also accuse Anden of this a few times.
* GoodIsDumb: As with the above example, if you help people out and refuse to be as cynical as him, Vico will all but call you an idiot.
* TheHedonist: He’s practically obsessed with sex.
* ICallItVera: His sword is called ''[[NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast Kinslayer]]'', though he never actually mentions it.
* IHaveYouNowMyPretty: With the Princess at the beginning. [[spoiler:Can happen again in Part Two if he’s challenged by Bran and the Princess decides to stay out of the duel. Vico might kill Bran and will subsequently threaten and try to kill the Princess if she doesn’t let him have his way with her.]]
* JerkAss: Oh, so much...
* JumpedOffTheSlipperySlope: [[spoiler:Vico will do this if he's not romanced and especially if he's confronted by Bran for raping the Princess. Even if he's been more agreeable up to that point, he'll immediately try to kill Bran and subsequently swears revenge on both him and the Princess, while fleeing. During the next two encounters with Vico, he acts even more deranged and promises to abuse and rape the Princess much worse than the first time, before outright attacking her.]]
* KarmaHoudini: In Part One, him raping the Princess is simply brushed over by his superiors and, although he’s forbidden from doing it again, there don’t seem to be any other repercussions for him. Nobody stops Vico from verbally harassing her as well, which he does often. Can again be a KarmaHoudini in Part Two, if he’s romanced by the Princess.
* KickTheDog: Many times, but probably the worst is at the beginning, when he rapes (and beats, if she resists) the Princess ''after'' informing her that her whole family and all the other people she knew have just been slaughtered by the Dhorn.
* LaserGuidedKarma: [[spoiler: In Part Two, the Princess finally gets a chance to pay him back for all his mistreatment. Even if she decides not to kill him, Vico will get himself killed by drow near the end of the module and end up in [[{{Hell}} the Planes]], unless he’s been romanced by the Princess and she spares his life and accepts him back before leaving the Underdark.]]
* LadykillerInLove: If he falls for the Princess.
* LoveInterest
* LoveIsAWeakness: May mention this is what he thinks of it. Of course, his opinion obviously changes if he’s romanced, though he probably won’t admit he’s in love, except during sex at times.
* LoveRedeems: Downplayed. While Vico's behavior towards ''the Princess'' changes for the better if they begin a relationship, his attitude towards everyone and everything else [[JerkAss remains the same it was before]].
* MadeASlave: In the Underdark.
* MakingLoveInAllTheWrongPlaces: He provides the most glaring examples as, unlike the other love interests, he’s willing and wants to have sex ''anywhere'', including in very inappropriate times and places. Especially after a battle or fight gets his blood boiling.
* MeaningfulName: “Vico” is a derivation of the Italian/Latin name “Vicelor”, meaning "conquerer".
* MisplacedRetribution / RevengeByProxy: [[spoiler:He couldn’t get to the King in time to kill him for all the trouble the war brought, so he takes it out on the Princess, who had no involvement in the war herself and didn’t even know the reason behind it. He may explain he did this because he knew there was an afterlife and [[ForcedToWatch wanted the King’s soul to watch what he was going to do to his daughter, without being able to stop it]].]]
* MoralityPet / MoralityChain: A kind and good aligned Princess can become this to him if she romances him, as she’s the only one that can keep a lid on his violent behavior.
* MoralMyopia: Vico believes himself justified and in the right to do what he sees fit and treat people however he wants (which usually involves harassing and insulting them almost all the time, especially the Princess). If you treat him the same way, however, even if it is just verbal insults, expect some terrifying threats of vengeance and [[spoiler:attempts on your life later on.]]
* MurderIsTheBestSolution: A firm supporter of this and often proposes it. It’s one of the things that put him in a good mood.
* MysteriousPast / DarkAndTroubledPast: Good luck trying to get him to say ''anything'' about his past. Though he’ll mention it wasn’t pleasant before he joined the Family as he had to live on the streets.
* NeverMyFault: One of his biggest flaws is refusing to take responsibility for his actions and usually blaming someone else, even his victims at times.
* NoAccountingForTaste: If he’s romanced, especially by a good aligned, kindhearted and shy Princess (basically his opposite). Of course, he’ll generally treat her well then, but considering their difference in behavior it’s no wonder other characters are baffled by the relationship.
* NoSocialSkills: Vico has a lot of trouble acting politely and talking without cursing, and is generally not good or even interested in communicating with people beyond messing with them, fighting, killing and having sexual relations with women. [[spoiler:His idea of seducing the Princess also involves just throwing her on a bed, even if she shows resistance.]]
* NotGoodWithRejection: [[spoiler:He’ll eventually leave the party and turn on the Princess if she rejects his advances.]]
* ParentalAbandonment: He never knew his parents and grew up alone on the streets.
* PermaStubble: His character design has this.
* PervertedSniffing: Likes to do this when romanced.
* PetTheDog: Very rarely, but he can have a few such moments (in his own way). Some examples include offering to kill a few Dhorn for the Princess after the latter is grieving over [[spoiler:Caron’s brutal murder by Dhorn officers]] and trying to comfort a crying Pia if the Princess cheated on her with him and didn’t apologize about it. And basically his attitude change towards the Princess, if she accepts him as a lover.
* PostRapeTaunt: His attitude over what he did to the Princess, raping her and taking her virginity. Later on, if they fall in love, he does express remorse if she asks about it and promises that he will never allow such a thing to happen to her again.
* QuitYourWhining: Doesn't tolerate any complaints or sorrows, no matter how justified they are, so this is usually his response to them. [[spoiler:The only exception in the game being if you romanced him and complied with a Dhorn general's SexualExtortion in Moonville, and then show how distressed you are as a result.]]
* RedAndBlackKeepBack: He’s clad in black armor and his sword glows an ominous red.
* RedemptionRejection: Vico will do this if the Princess becomes friendlier and more accepting of him, but refuses to sleep with him and become his lover.
* ReligionOfEvil: Rumored to worship an evil deity and to have to sacrifice blood to it every month for power, though Pia thinks it’s probably just overblown gossip. However, he's shown to be familiar with demonic writings and, according to his friend Tony Blake, Vico and Cata have been doing sick ritualistic things like slitting the throats of goats and bathing in their blood.
* RevengeBeforeReason: Tends to often fall into this mindset.
* ScrewThisImOuttaHere: [[spoiler:Vico will leave the party for good and eventually turn against the Princess if she shows contempt towards him and / or rejects his advances.]]
* SexFaceTurn: The Princess having sex with Vico in the Dwarven Inn is a turnpoint event of starting their relationship, where he will treat the Princess much better from then onward.
* SlutShaming: Uses this against the Princess on a few occasions just to mess with her, regardless of whether she’s actually been sleeping with someone or not.
* TheSocialDarwinist: Vico openly shows contempt towards people who can't defend themselves and considers helping them useless. He’ll also point out that only the strongest people survive and have the right to live. [[spoiler:His own survival instinct is so strong that even if he and the Princess are officially lovers, he won’t hold back when they have to fight to the death in the Maeralssin Pit. [[KillTheOnesYouLove Though at the very least he does apologize beforehand and promises to give her a quick death]]. If he’s not romanced he won’t bat an eyelash at having to kill her, or may even ''want'' to do it and promise to get her resurrected and made his slave to abuse as he wishes.]]
* SociopathicHero / HeroicComedicSociopath: He’s mostly an example of the first, but sometimes his actions and/or comments are played for laughs.
* StalkerWithACrush: During Part One, though it may mostly come from orders from Nathan, since there are a few other members of the Family watching and following the Princess occasionally as well. During the second part though, that's not the case. [[spoiler:And it becomes even creepier if the Princess doesn't romance him, as during their later encounters he admits to following her through the Underdark twice... right before attacking her.]]
* StreetUrchin: May mention he used to live on the streets of Betancuria, before joining the Family.
* TallDarkAndHandsome: Definitely combines all three. One of the reasons he has many female admirers.
* TeethClenchedTeamwork: With pretty much ''every'' companion and potentially the Princess as well.
* TerrifyingRescuer: Rightfully so, considering how his first rescue in the game goes.
* TokenEvilTeammate: The only evil companion, unless you manage to convince him and Rizzen to work together, making both of them your only evil teammates.
* {{Troll}}: If he remained in the party during [[spoiler:their capture in the Underdark, he’ll later lie to the Princess that Anden was killed by a mindflayer sucking his brain out and assures her that he saw it himself. Made even worse if the Princess was romancing Anden at the time.]]
* TheUnapologetic: Do not expect him to ever apologize for anything he does or has done to the Princess and to others. [[spoiler:The only apology he'll ever give the Princess is for raping her, but he only gives it if she slept with him in the Dwarven Inn and then goaded him into finally admitting he's sorry. He will not apologize if not asked right then and will never bring up the subject himself afterwards.]]
* UndyingLoyalty: To Nathan and the Family. This and his effectiveness in handling their dirty work is probably what makes them give Vico a lot of leeway in his actions.
* WasOnceAMan: [[spoiler: Unless he remained with the Princess after the Underdark and they were lovers, you’ll last meet him on the Planes, where he’s become a demon after his death.]]
* WhatDoesSheSeeInHim: Nobody states or asks this outright, but it's very clear that the other companions and most characters are [[{{Squick}} squicked out]] and repulsed by Vico and the Princess' relationship.
* WorkingWithTheEx: If Pia remains in the party. Their conversations are a bit strained.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Pia]]

->''I always found that jolly songs are good for a laugh. But it’s the sad songs that truly touch your inner heart…''

A pretty young bard and member of the Family, Pia enjoys singing and music above all, but has picked up some other skills over the years as well. She has a good heart and doesn’t like to see people hurt, but she can also be playful and taunting. Pia is repulsed by killing, but will do so when necessary. She’s involved in the Princess’ lessons and another main quest in Part One and can potentially become a companion in both parts of the module.

----

* ActionGirl: Less so than most, but she can be this, especially if leveled up as a Fighter.
* AllGirlsWantBadBoys: Admits this was what attracted her to Vico in the past. She grew out of it and considers the whole affair a mistake.
* AllOfTheOtherReindeer: Pia may mention being an outsider as a child and constantly bullied by the other children.
* BadassBookworm: Is obviously well read and can hold her own in a fight if necessary.
* BawdySong: Shown to know a few when Baron Ravenstower specifically orders her to sing such songs.
* BelligerentSexualTension: With Rizzen if the Princess hasn’t romanced either of them.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: She’s a sweet girl, but capable of killing if no other option is available. Or pushing you down a dark hole if you annoy her too much, as Rizzen finds out.
* BuffySpeak: At times.
* ChivalrousPervert: It’s not rare to catch her staring at the Princess’ bottom or chest, but Pia refuses to do anything without the Princess’ consent. She will even let her pass her lesson in seduction without the two of them having sex if the Princess shows discomfort and refuses, by simply telling Nathan that the Princess [[MetaphoricallyTrue did what she had to in order to finish her mission]].
* CoolBigSis: Pia becomes something of a sister figure to the Princess if they're on friendly terms. She tries to cheer her up, vows to protect her and will even try to help her avoid sexual situations or at least take the bulk upon herself. The best examples are when [[spoiler:she offers herself to Baron Ravenstower to keep him from sleeping with the Princess and defending her from Cata the moment the latter tries to sell the Princess to the Dhorn]]. In the second part of the game, the roles may get reversed if the Princess acts more confident and is protective towards Pia.
* CountryMouse: Subverted. While she did grow up as a farm girl, she hated that life and quickly became well-adjusted to the city, even though she admits it was very difficult to get by at first.
* TheCutie: Not very idealistic and is prone to mischief, but still one of the sweetest people you’ll meet.
* DamselInDistress: Though it's mostly due to bad luck, rather than her being incompetent.
* DeadpanSnarker: Sometimes. Mostly towards characters she often argues with, like Vico, Anden and Rizzen.
* DeclarationOfProtection: If she becomes a friend or lover to the Princess, she vows not to let anyone hurt her.
* EthicalSlut: She doesn't have any qualms with sex and sexuality, and considers it something to be enjoyed, provided the partners are willing.
* EvenTheGirlsWantHer: The Princess may seem a little taken in by her beauty and charm sometimes, even if she doesn’t romance her. Norah will also call her “pretty Pia” on occasion.
* FiveFingerDiscount: Admits she used to be a pretty good pickpocket before the Family took her in.
* GayOption: She's the only female romance option.
* GoGoEnslavement: May be forced to wear only boots by Baron Ravenstower. Also happens in the Underdark, when you find she’s been bought as a slave by Rugnar. He’s given her only a pair of trousers as clothing, without anything to cover her chest with.
* GoodFeelsGood: She's already a nice woman, even if she's working for a criminal guild, but Pia becomes even more happy whenever your party saves someone and admits it feels good to help out.
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: Pia is described as having strawberry blonde hair and also happens to be one of the nicest companions you can take with you.
* HappyDance: Likes to do this to celebrate getting out of bad situations, much to Rizzen's annoyance.
* InnocenceLost: In her background. She quickly learned that life in the city was not as she thought, leading to her losing most of her idealism in order to survive. Especially the case when [[spoiler:she had to kill someone for the first time in her life to prove herself to the Family. Pia seems to have never really gotten over it.]]
* InsecureLoveInterest: If romanced Pia starts to doubt she can have a future with the Princess due to her background of being a farm girl and also because she’s a woman, which Pia believes would cause problems for both of them as many people would disapprove. She’ll later try to break up with the Princess outright as she doubts the Princess could truly love someone like her.
* ItsAllMyFault: Blames herself for her and the Princess’ predicament in Ravenstower.
* IWasYoungAndNeededTheMoney: Pia used to have trouble making a living through playing music when she first came to Betancuria and admits she earned more money by picking pockets and "showing some skin".
* LikeAnOldMarriedCouple: Her bickering with Rizzen is seen as this by Bran and Jacia.
* LookingForLoveInAllTheWrongPlaces: Admits she’s had bad luck with male lovers in the past. The experience left her somewhat bitter towards men, especially because of the way they treated her as an object to satisfy their lust, instead of showing gentleness and valuing her as a person. Particularly the case when she was with Vico.
* MadeASlave: In the Underdark, like most other companions.
* MagicMusic: She is a Bard in a ''VideoGame/NeverwinterNights'' game after all.
* TheMcCoy: Mostly when compared to [[TheSpock Rizzen]].
* MeaningfulName: Pia's name originates from Italian and means "pious", which matches her character’s devotion to friends and loved ones.
* NiceGirl: Dislikes hurting people and is kind to most, even if she likes teasing and arguing with some of the other companions.
* NoRomanticResolution: It seems Rizzen is developing a crush on her, if they both aren’t romanced, but it doesn’t go far and by the end of the game it’s still not clear if it will.
* PairTheSpares: With Rizzen, if neither has been romanced. Although, this is more of a case of NoRomanticResolution between them, as they never get officially together by the end of the game.
* PluckyGirl: Though she'll require your comforting words and a hug once in a while, she's usually optimistic and quickly recovers from bad experiences, turning back to her old happy self.
* PornStash: The Princess can find a porn book in her armoire. Pia will later [[BlatantLies deny having touched it in years]] when Jacia taunts her about it.
* RedOniBlueOni: Red to Rizzen’s Blue.
* SexSlave: Implied to have been this to [[spoiler:Rugnar, the duergar merchant in the Underdark.]]
* ShamefulStrip: She’ll be forced to “entertain” Baron Ravenstower this way. Also happens to her when she’s captured by kobolds in the Underdark, though in that case she’s mostly just annoyed they stole her equipment and isn't too bothered by people seeing her naked.
* ShamelessFanserviceGirl: Pia isn't very prudish and likes sexy revealing clothes. Even when found being a naked captive at one point, she's not concerned about her companions seeing her like this. For Pia, seduction seems to be a survival tactic, since she herself admits she isn't a very good fighter and doesn't really like killing anyway.
* ShootTheDog: [[spoiler: Admits that before joining the Family she also had to pass a test that included her greatest fear – killing. She was given the name of a man to kill, as she had never done so up to that point and the Family wanted to test her ability to face her fears and do what is necessary. She did it, but confesses it still haunts her.]]
* SpitefulSpit: [[spoiler:She’s thoroughly disgusted with Cata and spits at her feet when the latter reveals herself as a traitor.]]
* SpoonyBard: While Pia does get some useful buffing spells, when leveled up continuously as a Bard, she's weak at fighting and a (possible) glitch or bug in casting her spells may often cause her to stand in the middle of a battle without fighting and thus get easily killed, or become invisible and inactive for the rest of the fight. Can be averted if she's given a few levels as a Fighter.
* StarvingArtist: Used to be this when she first came to Betancuria. It forced her to look for other ways to get by, aside from playing music, such as pickpocketing. After joining the Family, she’s no longer a starving artist because of their connections, which allowed her to perform in the better taverns in the city and probably earn some extra money from their other jobs as well.
* {{Stripperiffic}}: Her default outfit consists of brightly colored trousers and a bikini top.
* TagalongChronicler: Inverted. In Part One she puts priority on getting the Princess and herself back home and later may volunteer to join the Princess in Part Two, but with the purpose of helping and protecting her. Pia apparently considers writing songs about their adventures second to finishing their mission, even if she giddily makes plans about a new bard song every time some big monster is defeated.
* TakeMeInstead: She offers herself to Baron Ravenstower to keep him off the Princess.
* TheTease: Mostly during Part One.
* TomboyishPonytail: Played with. Her hair style is a simple, disheveled ponytail, but Pia herself isn't very tomboyish and enjoys bright pink clothes and sexy outfits.
* TooDumbToLive: Pia occasionally uses her bardic song or her spells when in stealth mode... even in the middle of a group of enemies. Outside of combat, however, she’s actually quite cautious and suspicious of new people and prefers more reasonable and less violent and dangerous courses of action.
* UndyingLoyalty: To the Family and potentially the Princess.
* ValleyGirl: Will sometimes talk in a similar way, but doesn't actually have all the traits of a ValleyGirl.
* WhatBeautifulEyes: Described as having very beautiful and happy blue eyes.
* WorkingWithTheEx: She used to be one of Vico’s girls in the past. This causes some tension between them.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Anden Goodmanner]]

->''My sword arm is yours to command, M’lady.''

A ranger from Betancuria. Anden is a very selfless and polite man, dedicated to upholding the law and helping those in need. As an experienced tracker he proves himself to be a valuable companion when navigating through forests, mountains and even underground. His courteous behavior, shyness and knack of getting himself captured often earn him the mockery of other companions, especially Vico.

----

* AmazonChaser: He seems quite taken in by Norah.
* ApologisesALot: Comes with being as polite as he is.
* BetaCouple: With Norah. While Anden acts all shy and reluctant to get with the Princess, he has no qualms about leaping into bed with Norah, if the Princess doesn’t show interest in him.
* CaptainObvious: Pia and potentially the Princess can accuse Anden of often stating quite obvious things.
* ChickMagnet: There are at least two women met in the game who show interest in him (three if the Princess does too), which embarrasses Anden at times.
* CovertPervert: He can't help but peer at the Princess's bottom whenever she bends forward. Pia also taunts him about staring at Norah’s butt and the Princess’ chest when they aren’t looking, which he feebly tries to deny, much to the other companions’ amusement.
* DistressedDude: When you first meet him, he’s being held prisoner by bandits. Later on he’ll occasionally get captured during the progression of the story. Even [[DamselInDistress Pia]] taunts him about it.
* FaceHeelTurn: [[spoiler: Played with Anden and potentially Norah, which was also unknown on their part. Arto recruited them under the guise of "for the Princess's own good", but when both of them learn of Arto's real motive, they quickly do a HeelFaceTurn and join with Nathan.]]
* TheFettered: He never stops believing in his ideals and morals, even if he bends his law-abiding ways a little.
* {{Foil}}: Of all companions, he is the clearest example of being this to Vico. Although every companion is in some way a {{Foil}} to Vico, Anden is the only one who is his exact opposite and this is frequently shown in their interactions with each other and their different reactions to the same events.
* ForestRanger: His profession. Anden even likes the wilderness and exploring to the point of admitting he's planning on working on an atlas and mapping the whole area around Westwood.
* HonorBeforeReason: Subverted. While Anden is very honorable, there are a few situations where he’ll reluctantly note that trying to help more than is possible will lead the group nowhere. Still, he tries to be as honorable as he can, given the circumstances.
* IGaveMyWord: Why he doesn’t think of reporting the Family to the authorities and why he helps the Princess even if they potentially don’t see eye to eye.
* IKissYourHand: More prone to doing this as a love interest, instead of a normal kiss.
* IOweYouMyLife: Anden often mentions this as his reason for following the Princess, even if she's part of a criminal guild.
* KnightInShiningArmor: He behaves very much like one, despite actually being a ranger.
* LetsWaitAwhile: He’s not too keen on jumping into bed with the Princess, without being married to her first. Though it’s possible for them to have sex in a certain situation.
** Doesn’t seem to have the same problem with Norah, however.
* LoveInterest: Also a bit [[InsecureLoveInterest insecure like in Pia’s case]] as he doesn’t believe himself worthy of the Princess.
* MeaningfulName: His last name is ‘’Goodmanner’’. Guess what his behavior is.
* MysteriousPast: Avoids talking about his past, mostly on the grounds of it boring the Princess.
* NatureLover: As befitting his job. When first met he expresses various concerns for the state of the forests and the wildlife, while escorting the Princess back to Betancuria. He's also the only city-dwelling companion who doesn't complain at the prospect of having to tread in the wilderness for hours.
* NiceGuy: Definitelly.
* NoGoodDeedGoesUnpunished: How he got captured by bandits. They pretended to be stranded travelers who needed their wagon wheel fixed. When he let his guard down and tried to help them, they proceeded to knock him out and imprison him. This pretty much becomes a trend with him later on as, while trying to help the Princess rescue her friends, he ultimately gets in trouble even more.
* OldSchoolChivalry: ''My sword arm is yours to command, M’lady.'' sounds more like something a knight would say than a tracker. His name is meaningful.
* ScarilyCompetentTracker: Even if the Princess gives him a fake address, he manages to locate her in Betancuria with relative ease. Much later in the game this can take a different turn as he [[spoiler:becomes Arto Benthur's main tracker in the colonel's hunt for the Princess, though at first Anden wasn't aware of Benthur's sinister intentions towards her.]]
* ScrewTheRulesImDoingWhatsRight: Normally follows law to the letter, but that changes when he decides to help the Family instead of reporting them to the Dhorn, after he witnesses the latter’s cruelty towards suspected criminals and willingness to kill innocent bystanders.
* ShrinkingViolet: Very shy, especially towards the Princess.
* [[SingleWomanSeeksGoodMan Single Man Seeks Good Woman]]: He becomes truly attracted to the Princess only if she proves she’s a caring person. Otherwise he’ll become quite attached to Norah, who is an honorable woman and a capable warrior.
* SociallyAwkwardHero: Kind, brave and competent in his job. Dealing with women is quite a different matter, however.
* StarcrossedLovers: It can potentially happen between him and the Princess, [[spoiler:who he later, though unwittingly, betrays to Arto Benthur, even if he's been romanced.]]
* ToBeLawfulOrGood: He’s a bit conflicted over helping a criminal guild, because as a ranger he’s supposed to uphold the law. However, he also points out that after seeing what the Dhorn did at “The Bear Pit” he no longer believes they uphold the law as well, due to their cruelty.
* UndyingLoyalty: To the Princess.
* WelcomeBackTraitor: It happens to Anden when [[spoiler: he eventually meets the Princess near the end, clad in a Dhorn uniform. Although his treason is arguable, as he was rescued by Dhorn after being captured by Rual'thor the Illithid and at first didn't understand that the group of Dhorn he joined was a party chasing the Princess.]]
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Bran]]

->''Settle down on a farm and be a peasant? I think not. Norah and I will always be warriors in our hearts.''

A strong barbarian warrior from Churn. Bran travels from place to place together with his sister Norah, both of them occasionally working as mercenaries and guards. A good man at heart he nevertheless enjoys hard fights, but always fights them with a sense of honor. Bran is also very flirtatious, laid back and easygoing. He can only be encountered during Part Two of the module.

----

* BadassBystander: When Westwood is attacked by orcs his and his sister’s immediate reaction is to grab their weapons and run out on the street to fight them.
* BadassInDistress: [[spoiler:When he's captured and used as a slave in the Underdark. He manages to eventually kill his captor on his own, but you still have to help him find the way out.]]
* BarbarianHero: Of the kinder variety.
* BeardOfBarbarism: He seems to have one (and is, appropriately, a Barbarian), albeit considerably smaller and shorter than most examples.
* BestServedCold: [[spoiler:Bran and his sister have been hunting Chruz-Pa and his men for years in order to take vengeance for the culling of their clan.]]
* BewareTheNiceOnes / GoodIsNotSoft: A good-natured man, who is flirty, loud and likes to joke and laugh. He'll also not hesitate to attack anyone he feels threatens the people he cares for, [[spoiler:break the neck of a sadistic dark elf slave-owner or hunt down his clan’s murderer for years]].
* {{BFS}}: Carries one.
* TheBigDamnKiss: Gives ''three in a row'' to the Princess if he’s romanced and the party has just defeated a near endless wave of undead skeletons and a dracolich.
* BloodKnight: Seems to be one, considering his love for battle. Still, he’s not a dark version of this as he very much dislikes picking fights with and killing non-hostile people and is mostly only overjoyed when fighting either orcs or some big and monstrous creature. Or taking part in the occasional bar brawl.
* BoisterousBruiser: Much like his sister. Notably they are both from a “barbarian” society.
* BrotherSisterTeam: With Norah. To the point where if the Princess asks one of them to leave the group, the other will systematically go as well.
* BruiserWithASoftCenter: Sure, he looks a bit like a wild man and is a pretty big guy that carries a giant sword. But he's also one of the kindest companions and if romanced is also revealed to be one of the gentler and more playful love interests.
* CharacterDevelopment: May be convinced by the Princess to change his priorities in life [[spoiler:and as a result give up on his years long search for vengeance.]]
* ChivalrousPervert: Bran isn’t prudish at all, has a history of picking up tavern wenches and will often check out the Princess or Pia’s curves. However, he doesn’t allow himself any liberties with women when he joins the Princess’ party beyond the occasional stare, and if the Princess wins his trust, he’ll be very considerate and respectful towards her. [[spoiler:He ultimately cements himself as this when he confronts Vico for raping the Princess and fights him.]]
* CoolSword: Wields a big two handed sword with a frost enchantment.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: Considering his and Norah's clan was slain before their eyes when they were seven years old, they were taken prisoner by the enemy and kept as such for years before escaping and then surviving on their own, this certainly counts.
* DeclarationOfProtection:[[spoiler:Happens if the Princess won his trust and proposed he think of something else to do with his life, rather than seek revenge. After winning the fight with Vico, he’ll promise to protect the Princess from Vico in the future and help with her quest instead of continuing his own.]]
* DistressedDude: After the party’s captured in the Underdark the Princess has to help him escape. [[spoiler:Though to his credit, he had already made the rescue easier on his own by killing his captor.]]
* TheDogBitesBack: [[spoiler:He manages to kill the drow woman who bought him as a slave after weeks of being tortured by her and watching her do the same to her other slaves.]]
* DreadlockWarrior / WildHair: His character design has dreadlocks and the Princess describes him as looking wild due to the shaggy mane surrounding his face.
* FieryRedhead: A male example. He can be a bit [[HotBlooded passionate]] at times, though Norah beats him in that regard.
* FinishingEachOthersSentences: The siblings do this sometimes. If not actually finishing the sentence, it’s quite common for them to tell a story by having one say a couple of sentences and the other continue.
* GentleGiant: Often described as a very big and muscular man, he usually tries to avoid unnecessary violence, hates to see people abused and will approve if the Princess helps and protects those in need.
* GlorySeeker: Not overly so, but he does mention defeating a dragon is thought to be a great glory and is quite excited when the party manages to do it.
* GoodCounterpart: He's one to Vico. Both of them share many similarities: they love fighting, grew up and had to survive largely on their own, are the biggest and strongest men in the party, had many short lived affairs with women, and are both [[spoiler:revealed to be prone to [[RevengeBeforeReason seeking vengeance]]]]. However, where Bran grew up to be a generally kind man and ChivalrousPervert, who enjoys fighting but refuses to hurt innocents or people who are unable to defend themselves, Vico became a bully and TheCasanova, with a penchant for killing, general disdain for weaker people, and a very bad temper, leading him to often seek DisproportionateRetribution for those who wronged him, or hurting their loved ones in his rage and not being above using rape. They also differ in that Bran turns out to be friendly, often reasonable and well-adjusted, has at least one person who's very close to him (Norah), and can be convinced to [[spoiler:let go of his revenge and search for a new purpose in life]] even without being romanced, while Vico is unreasonable and a sociopath to the point where he alienates most people and doesn't let even the ones he cares for too close to him emotionally, and being friendly to him but still rejecting him romantically will make him even more unstable and vengeful.
* HellBentForLeather: Wears a brown light leather armor.
* HeroicBSOD: Can have two such moments. One is [[spoiler:if he loses the duel with Vico]] and the other [[spoiler:when he learns you found no trace of Norah in the Underdark]].
* HeroicBuild: It’s mentioned a few times that his muscles are what often attracts women.
* HiddenDepths: Seems like an easy going nice guy, likes to pick up women just for fun and Norah believes he isn't ready to commit to a relationship. [[spoiler:Is actually determined to follow a quest of vengeance, though he can be convinced to change his mind. Also, despite his history of only having flings with easy women, he may express a desire to settle down and start a new clan. Should the Princess show romantic interest in him Bran will also reveal himself to be very considerate of her situation and asks her to think well about it first and be sure of her feelings. He's also the only love interest, aside from potentially Anden, to express desire to marry the Princess and to propose to her.]]
* ICallItVera: His sword is named “[[KillItWithIce Frost]]”.
* IntimateHealing: Marks the first stages of Bran's romance, though it’s not by his suggestion. The Princess will start feeling very cold, when she tries to sleep in the underground resting places, so the option is given for her to offer Bran they both cuddle in the same sleeping bag to keep warm.
* LastOfTheirKind: Bran and Norah are the last surviving members of their clan.
%%zce* LoveInterest
%%* MadeASlave: To dark elves.
* MuggingTheMonster: Happened when the siblings were hired as guards to a caravan. The leader of a Dhorn patrol accused the caravan of smuggling weapons and apparently attacked it. As Bran and Norah put it, it's "too bad he only had like twelve men with him."
* MyGreatestFailure: [[spoiler:A possibility, if he’s killed by Vico in their duel. After being resurrected Bran will be very ashamed of his defeat and failure to protect the Princess. He may continue to help her, but he’ll think himself unworthy of her so any chance of romance between them will be ruined.]]
* NeckSnap: [[spoiler:Does this to Ulviirerd, who bought him as a slave. Though according to both Rizzen and Bran [[AssholeVictim she really had it coming]].]]
* NiceGuy: Doesn't mind rescuing people in danger and will approve if the Princess does so as well.
* NobleSavage: He’s lived for many years in civilization, but still respects and follows the traditions and honor of his own culture.
* NotWhatItLooksLike: After the Princess cuddles with him in his sleeping bag to keep warm, he’ll say this to his sister. She doesn’t believe him.
* OddFriendship: Bran and Rizzen get along surprisingly well and become friends rather quickly, despite their many differences in personality and initial distrust.
* OptOut: [[spoiler:At the Dwarven Inn Norah and Bran may decide to leave the group, as they've discovered where their nemesis is. They'll only stay if the Princess has earned their trust, hasn't romanced anyone and rejected Vico's advances, as him leaving will prompt Bran to stay and protect the Princess should Vico decide to take revenge.]]
* OutOfCharacterMoment: If the Princess sneaks into a dark elf mansion to rescue Bran, he'll [[spoiler:subdue her and knock her out from behind, tying her up and later threatening her, if she doesn't answer his questions.]] [[JustifiedTrope Justified]], as it becomes clear he only did this because [[spoiler:he had killed the Matron of the House to escape, but was stuck in the mansion and feared the Princess may be an imposter and make too much noise. Thus he silences, ties and questions her first, before hugging her and showing great relief and joy that it's really her.]]
* ParentalAbandonment: His whole clan was killed before his eyes by an enemy clan, when Bran and his sister were just seven years old.
* ProudWarriorRaceGuy: Bran comes from a land populated largely by barbarian clans who constantly war with each other. He seems to consider that normal and just a part of everyday life there, and tries to follow those traditions by fighting enemies wherever they are found. He himself isn't particularly violent, however, even if he does think most problems can be solved by fighting.
* TheQuest: He’s on a quest together with his sister and can be persuaded to join the Princess on hers, as his people believe quests are important spiritual journeys.
* RevengeBeforeReason: [[spoiler:Bran is spending his life looking for Chruz-Pa, the man responsible for his clan’s death, in order to take vengeance on behalf of his ancestors. Despite the fact that this may get both him and Norah killed and wipe out their clan for good. The Princess can point this out to him and convince him to care more for his present and future life, rather than risking it to avenge people who are long dead.]]
* SexSlave / RapeAsDrama: [[spoiler: Heavily implied to have suffered through this, while he was a slave to a drow woman in the Underdark.]]
* SiblingYinYang: With Norah. While they’re both energetic and quite similar most of the time, he’s a little more cool-headed about most things.
* [[SingleWomanSeeksGoodMan Single Man Seeks Good Woman]]: He’ll only fall for the Princess if she shows kindness to people who need help and is more open about her motives and past.
* SpitefulSpit: [[spoiler:Spits at Vico’s feet right before they start fighting.]]
* {{Squee}}: Prone to getting overly excited by battles with any large monster you may encounter, often exclaiming with glee after the group wins.
* ThoseTwoGuys: With Rizzen. While initially hostile towards the dark elf due to being enslaved by drow, Bran soon warms up to him and the two form a (rather snarky) friendship.
* VitriolicBestBuds: It’s not rare to hear the siblings hurl playful insults at each other, with Bran often calling his sister “mannish” and “beefy”, while Norah will say a [[{{Oculothorax}} Beholder]] is prettier than him. They never actually mean those things, however, and it’s quite obvious the siblings really care for and look after each other.
** Bran also becomes this with Rizzen, if the latter joins the party after the Underdark. The two seem to enjoy throwing verbal punches at each other.
* WalkingTheEarth: Bran and Norah have been doing this for years prior to meeting the Princess.
* WorthIt: Bran's view on [[spoiler:his confrontation with Vico. The Princess can later ask him why he would risk his life for her. Bran's response: "Because you are worth it."]]
* [[YouKilledMyFather You Killed My Clan]]: [[spoiler:Bran and Norah's goal in life is to track down and kill the man responsible for their clan's death.]]
* YouMonster: [[spoiler:If Bran starts to develop feelings towards the Princess and she rejects Vico's advances, he becomes the ''only'' character that openly confronts and condemns Vico for what he did to her at the beginning of the game.]]

[[folder:Norah]]

->''You think you’ll last longer this time, sweetheart?''

A barbarian from Churn and Bran’s sister. Norah is an energetic young woman and a strong capable warrior in her own right. Like her brother she’s flirty, not at all prudish and likes to fight, while still keeping to her code of honor. Norah can be convinced to join the Princess’ party, together with Bran. She only appears during Part Two of the module.
----
* ActionGirl: A straight example. In terms of gameplay, she is a Barbarian wielding a greataxe.
* AllAmazonsWantHercules: Downplayed. While she does mention not being interested in a Dhorn officer because he’s a “weakling”, she’s quite attracted to [[NiceGuy Anden]], who she claims she easily wrestled to the ground during their first meeting.
* AmazonianBeauty: Considering female body models are the same, it's not visible in-game. But conversations with Bran inform that she's this, as he says she “wrestles like a grizzly” and teases her about being big and brawny. It’s also mentioned that some men find her quite attractive even so, Anden definitely being among them.
* BadassBystander: She and Bran don’t hesitate to start fighting orcs on the street the minute Westwood is attacked.
* BarbarianHero: A female variant, and also kinder like her brother.
* BattleCouple: Can become this with Anden, if she and Bran remain in the party and Anden isn’t romanced.
* BestServedCold: [[spoiler:Norah and her brother’s hunt for Chruz-Pa and his men.]]
* BetaCouple: Again with Anden.
* BoisterousBruiser: She’s occasionally a bit more boastful than Bran about her fighting abilities, as she claims she’s able to beat him.
* BoyishShortHair: She keeps her hair trimmed to her jaw.
%%* BrotherSisterTeam: With Bran.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: Witnessed her clan's deaths as a child and was imprisoned by the enemy for a long time.
* FaceHeelTurn: [[spoiler: Together with Anden after they were freed by Arto Benthur, though they didn’t know he means the Princess harm. They both quickly rejoin the Princess after discovering Benthur’s true plans.]]
* FieryRedhead: Her hair seems to have a reddish hue to it and her personality certainly fits the trope.
* FinishingEachOthersSentences: Will sometimes talk this way together with Bran.
* GoingCommando: Pia will quickly notice Norah's revealing armor doesn't include underwear.
* HellBentForLeather: Has a brown light armor made of leather.
* HotBlooded: Very outspoken and teasing. Also somewhat competitive towards Bran when it comes to fighting.
* ICallItVera: Her axe is named “[[KillItWithFire Heat]]”. May also be a DoubleEntendre, considering the way she likes to make jokes with sexual context.
* TheLadette: Likes to fight and quickly starts making obvious passes at Anden. She also likes to tease the men in the party a lot.
* LastOfTheirKind: Norah and her brother are the last surviving members of their clan.
* MuggingTheMonster: Norah and her brother quickly dispatched a Dhorn patrol that accused their caravan of smuggling weapons.
* NavelDeepNeckline: Her default armor has a cleavage that reaches her stomach. Borders on WardrobeMalfunction as parts of her nipples are actually exposed.
* NobleSavage: She’s lived among civilized peoples for years, but still honors her own people’s memory and fights for it. Could double as a NubileSavage as she also admits caring for her looks, especially her armor’s.
* OptOut: [[spoiler:She may leave the party permanently together with Bran at the Dwarven Inn if certain conditions aren’t met.]]
* ParentalAbandonment: Norah saw how her clan was killed when she was seven, leaving Bran as her only living family.
* ProudWarriorRaceGirl: Like her brother she was trained to fight as a child and knows and respects the ways of the war-oriented clan she was born in.
* TheQuest: Norah is on a quest with her brother and considers quests in general to be very important journeys. She may be persuaded to join the Princess on hers.
* RevengeBeforeReason: [[spoiler:Like Bran she’s quite determined to find her clan’s killer, even if that means risk being killed or leaving Anden, whom she quickly gets attached to. Bran can persuade her to stay with the Princess’ party, if he’s decided to stop searching for revenge.]]
* ShipSinking: Despite some joke-like flirting, the Princess gets shot down if she pursues Norah.
* SiblingYinYang: With Bran. Both are energetic, but she’s a little more passionate than him.
* SingleWomanSeeksGoodMan: She quickly sets her eyes on Anden when they meet, who is the only kind and chivalrous man in the Princess’ party.
* TheTease: Especially towards Anden, though she doesn’t mind getting more serious with her advances. She’ll also occasionally flirt with the Princess, but admits she’s just joking.
* VitriolicBestBuds: Likes to mess with Bran, often calling him a “big oaf” or teasing him about his looks, among other things, but it’s quite obvious she doesn’t really mean it and cares a lot for her brother.
* WalkingTheEarth: Bran and Norah have been doing this for years prior to meeting the Princess.
* [[YouKilledMyFather You Killed My Clan]]: [[spoiler:Her and her brother's goal in life is to track down and kill the man responsible for their clan's death.]]

[[folder:Rizzen Do’Vrinn]]

->''[[CatchPhrase Interesting]]…''

A member of the noble House Do’Vrinn and son of the House Matron. Rizzen is a dark elf with an unusually high standing for a male in his House, which allows him some freedom in dealing with his more high ranking sisters. The Princess meets him at the Maeralssin slave market, where he purchases her as a slave. After an unfortunate turn of events for him in House Do’Vrinn, he can be persuaded to flee to the surface with the Princess. Rizzen is quite familiar with the Underdark and can help as a guide to the Princess and any of her companions that might still be trapped there during the escape.

----

* AbusiveParents: As typical for drow culture, his mother sees him as expendable.
* AffectionateGestureToTheHead: May occasionally pat the Princess on the head for a job well done.
* AristocratsAreEvil: Very much the case with dark elves. He’s far from the worst of them, however, and is the only drow to actually show a little bit of kindness to the Princess, while she’s captive.
* BattleTrophy: Depending on how you decide to proceed with a certain quest in Part Two, [[spoiler:it turns out Rizzen is keeping the head of one of his sister's consorts, who was sent to kill him and the Princess, as a reminder of home]].
* BelligerentSexualTension: With Pia if neither have been romanced.
* BlueBlood: He’s quite proud of it too.
* CainAndAbel: Though he's also villainous like his siblings, his sister Talice firmly establishes herself as the Cain for being the bloodthirsty sadist of the bunch and for trying to ruin his standing in the House just out of spite. Especially the case later on if [[spoiler:Rizzen runs from his family with the Princess to avoid being killed. His mother sends Talice and several assassin squads after them to make sure he dies.]]
* CatchPhrase: “Interesting”. The Princess can point this out to him:
-->'''Princess''': You really find everything interesting, don’t you?
* CharacterDevelopment: He’ll start off being very dismissive of everything connected to the surface, considering the Princess his “property” and being arrogant towards everyone. In time his views may change and his attitude may soften, depending on the Princess’ choices and behavior.
* ColorCodedEyes: In his case it's not that unusual that his eyes are purple, since he's a drow, but this is supposed to be a rare eye colour even for them.
* CrazyJealousGuy: At first anyway, since he considers the Princess his rightfully bought property. He mellows out as the game progresses.
* CreepySouvenir: The aforementioned battle trophy.
* DeadpanSnarker: The biggest offender, aside from potentially the Princess.
* DefectorFromDecadence: He’s forced to leave drow society, not so much because he hates it, but because it’s either this or [[spoiler:be killed by his own mother]].
* DefrostingIceKing: Especially obvious if the Princess pursues a relationship with him, but can happen regardless over time, as he gets used to some of the companions, becoming especially fond of Bran and Pia (or at least of teasing her).
* EvenEvilHasStandards: He finds most methods drow use for dealing with slaves needlessly sadistic. As he puts it, it’s far better to give someone a quick death or let them die in battle, rather than torture them continuously.
* {{Expy}}: Aside from a few personality traits, there’s a good chance his practical views and his mannerisms will quickly start reminding you of [[Franchise/StarTrek Spock.]]
* FascinatingEyebrow: Is quite prone to doing this.
* FirstTimeInTheSun: Played with when the group reaches the surface. He still isn't convinced the surface world is better than the Underdark (and the sun irritates his eyes), but Rizzen prefers it at this point since it gives him an opportunity to stay alive and start over.
* FishOutOfWater: It takes him some time to adjust to the surface. He’ll even feel physically sick at one point.
* FriendshipDenial: He refers to the other companions as “allies” (when not calling them “surfacers”). Even when he is starting to develop a sort of friendship with some of them.
* TheGadfly: Sometimes enjoys messing with people for his own amusement. Especially when it comes to the Princess and Pia.
* HowTheMightyHaveFallen: He's one of the higher ranking male nobles in one of the stronger dark-elf noble houses in Maeralssin. Due to circumstances beyond his control, however, Rizzen loses everything and is forced to flee to the surface or die.
* LikeAnOldMarriedCouple: Bran and Jacia think Rizzen and Pia's interactions are this.
* LoveInterest
* MasterSwordsman: Considers himself one, as he notes he was his House’s Weaponmaster.
* AMatchMadeInStockholm: If he and the Princess become friends or even lovers, as their initial meeting had him buy her as a slave and keep her in a cell.
* MoralMyopia: Rizzen, being a Drow, initially does not understand why the Princess would want to rescue her friends from prison, as that doesn't benefit her in any way, and treats her as if she's a pet. He'll also be very surprised if she refuses to [[spoiler:kill him in exchange for help from another elf]] to finish her mission and informs her that her decision is completely illogical, as Drow would never hesitate to kill anyone, even family, if it's to their advantage. This comes from the fact that like the other dark elves he considers surfacers inferiors and only fit to be slaves, while he was raised to be a noble and a slave-owner and thus sees them as fair game. Eventually he starts seeing things differently, even if he still occasionally continues to mock "surfacers" for their empathy.
* MySpeciesDothProtestTooMuch: During the escape from the Underdark Rizzen will lament how much the drow's love of infighting is actually setting back their ambitions to strengthen their society and conquer the surface world.
* TheNicknamer: Oddly enough for a stoic character. He’ll never use the real name of any of the companions, except for potentially the Princess. Instead, he calls Bran or Vico “bull”, Pia – “bard” and the Princess – “little slave”.
* NoRomanticResolution: While he does like annoying Pia, if neither of them have been romanced, it seems he’s developing a crush on her. It remains unclear if anything will happen between them.
* NotCheatingUnlessYouGetCaught: Has one of his guards give the Princess a secretly enchanted gladiator outfit before her fight in the Pits, in order to both give her a much bigger chance of survival and winning during the fight ''and'' have his House humiliate their rivals as a result. He later admits he finds cheating exhilarating, especially when his plans work.
* OddFriendship: Bran and Rizzen quickly warm up to each other, despite having very different personalities. Of course, the fact that [[spoiler:Bran killed Ulviirerd, who Rizzen utterly despised]], probably helped. Rizzen even goes as far as giving him the Princess as a “gift”.
* PairTheSpares: If he and Pia aren't romanced he shows interest in her. However, it remains vague and unclear if they'll truly become a couple.
* PetTheDog: He’s the only drow to show a bit concern towards the Princess, while she’s a slave, and will reveal he was secretly pulling strings to make sure she was beneficial to his House and survived and remained unmolested.
* RedAndBlackKeepBack: His clothes are black and purple and he wields a glowing red rapier.
* RedOniBlueOni: Blue to Pia’s Red. Can also be Blue to Vico’s Red.
* RoyalRapier: His default weapon of choice.
* SeenItAll: He’ll most likely not be surprised by any acts of cruelty, trickery, hidden agendas or anything else of the sort, considering he grew up in the Underdark where that is the norm. Nevertheless has a hilariously baffled reaction if Pia and the Princess are a couple, and has never actually seen the surface world, so there are things he’ll admit he’s quite unfamiliar with.
* ShootTheDog: [[spoiler: Attempts to anyway. He’ll try to kill the Princess if she firmly refuses to continue being his slave, when they talk at the beginning of their escape, possibly because he takes the disobedience to mean she won’t help him or will betray him.]]
* SiblingRivalry: With his sisters, especially Talice. Though this is not uncommon for drow, it’s interesting in their case because as a male he has no claim to rule the House and everyone knows it, yet Talice and him still harass and threaten each other.
* SixthRanger: He's the last of the main companions that can be recruited and appears all the way in the second half of Part Two of the module.
* TheSocialDarwinist: He explains that “survival of the fittest” is the way drow children are raised in the Underdark, though how much he agrees with that method isn’t clear. Rizzen will, however, question the need to rescue the Family from imprisonment, as he believes anyone stupid enough to get captured deserves it.
* TheSpock: Rizzen is a firm believer in always taking the most logical and pragmatic solutions to everything. This usually causes some arguments between him and [[TheMcCoy Pia]].
* TheSpymaster: May mention he also fulfilled this role for his House.
* TheStoic: Probably the least emotional party member in the entire module.
* ThoseTwoGuys: Becomes this with Bran.
* TokenEvilTeammate: May replace Vico's role as the evil party member, if the latter is no longer available. Or he can be convinced to work alongside Vico, though neither of them like the idea.
* VitriolicBestBuds: Loves insulting Bran and the latter promptly returns the favor. They quickly become friends.
* WhatIsThisThingYouCallLove: Claims love has no meaning to drow and so does friendship. He’s also initially careful when the Princess shows interest in him, as he notes seduction is a potent weapon, commonly used among drow. But he can eventually be convinced otherwise, even if he never uses the words “love” or “friends” to describe his feelings towards the other companions.
* WickedCultured: He may be a member of a race with sinister practices, but that hasn't stopped him from being well educated.
* YouCantGoHomeAgain: Is forced to leave the Underdark as [[spoiler:he would have been killed for witnessing his mother’s embarrassment]].
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Gemli Stengarks]]

->''I’m really gettin’ too old for this.''

An old dwarven cleric, Gemli is first encountered in Westwood, drinking in the same tavern Bran and Norah are staying at. He can be convinced to join the Princess, as he knows his way around the mines she needs to cross in order to enter the Underdark.

----

* TheAlcoholic: You first meet him drinking in a tavern, where he might challenge you to a drinking contest that he's almost impossible to be beaten at. Later on the other companions might joke with him to drink less beer.
* BadassBystander: He fought the orcs in Westwood together with Bran and Norah.
* CarryABigStick: His default weapon is a mace.
* ChurchMilitant: While he rarely talks about his profession, technically he’s a Cleric, making him a combat-oriented servant of his deity.
* CombatMedic: Due to his cleric abilities, he can heal the whole party and fight at the same time.
* DidTheyOrDidntThey: [[spoiler:Losing a drinking contest with him ends with the Princess waking up naked in his bed. He tells her she slept with him while drunk. If she confronts him about it in front of her companions later, he’ll deny doing anything to her and claims she just passed out and he let her sleep in his bed and only told her they had sex to make fun of her.]]
* DirtyOldMan: Being old doesn’t stop him from blatantly leering at the Princess’ assets. [[spoiler:Or sleeping with her while she’s drunk, [[DidTheyOrDidntThey if he really did that]].]]
* ElvesVersusDwarves: Implied. If the Princess drinks very little or refuses to drink of the alcohol he treats her to, he’ll say it’s too bad she drinks “like an elfie”.
* OnlyInItForTheMoney: One sure way to convince him to be your guide and healer, without having to pass persuasion checks, is to offer him payment. The more you offer, the better. Can be subverted, of course, but he’s still quite excited whenever he sees an opportunity to get his hands on some coins.
* WeHardlyKnewYe: [[spoiler: He's a companion for a short time before he dies, though still enough to have a characterization.]]

[[WMG:Nathan Geigers]]

->''I have no use for someone who runs away screaming and yelling when things get complicated.''

A highly influential man and de facto leader of the criminal organization known as “The Family”. A stern and stoic person Master Nathan gives the impression of being cold, ruthless and calculating. Nevertheless, he seems to care a lot for the Family and Betancuria, as he started the whole criminal organization in order to control the rampant crime and chaos that the King of Betancuria left running unchecked in the city. His base of operations is his restaurant “The Bear Pit”.

----

* TheChessmaster: Proves himself to be this, especially in the end when [[spoiler:he proposes the Princess pretend to go along with Arto Benthur’s plan and marry him in order to manipulate him to potentially let her rule both Dhorn and Betancuria. Nathan tries to persuade her this is the best course of action by reminding her of her duty to do what is best for her people.]]
* CynicismCatalyst: Originally, he was just the owner of “The Bear Pit” restaurant, until crime and poverty in Betancuria became so rampant due to the King’s war campaigns that he and a few shop owners in the city decided they’d had enough and took matters into their own hands. It’s also implied that he lost his daughter at some point in the past and this may have contributed further to his current personality.
* TheDon: He's this to the Family.
* HeKnowsTooMuch: Since the Family is trying to keep their whereabouts and the Princess' identity hidden from the Dhorn, Nathan has this policy towards anyone who might blabber about their secrets. [[spoiler:This includes the Princess herself, as she's also involved with the Family's dealings.]]
* HiddenHeartOfGold: According to Chella and Joanna. It does show occasionally in some of his actions towards the Princess and his general concern for the Family.
* IOwnThisTown: The Family basically ruled Betancuria from the shadows. Until the Dhorn conquered the city, which made things more difficult.
* NotSoAboveItAll: While he’s normally very serious and never shows any sexual interest in the Princess or anyone else, unlike most other men, Joanna mentions she’s been his lover for years and they still like spending their nights together. Something Nathan firmly refuses to comment on. And then there’s his hilarious reaction if the Princess shows him her nude painting and proposes he keeps it for safety reasons:
-->*looks at the painting, then at the Princess*”I think it’s best if I do keep this.”
* ParentalSubstitute: Somewhat the case with Nathan. But while he does sort of act as a stern father figure to the Princess, he’s prone to putting Family business and safety above her well being.
* PayEvilUntoEvil: His and the Family’s way of dealing with someone who actively causes them and the rest of the community problems, like the new Dhorn rulers for example.
* PetTheDog: Occasionally shows kindness and sympathy to the Princess, especially if she’s very distraught. He’ll also claim the Family welcomes anyone without a home and provides them with protection, if they learn the skills they need to help out.
* SecretTestOfCharacter: Said to organize these for anyone who wishes to join the Family in order to test their loyalty and ability to handle a situation they are most vulnerable in.
* TheStoic: The Princess will often mention how he never seems to react emotionally and will remark on anything "resembling a smile" that she'll notice on his face on very few occasions.

Alfons Fryar is the deputy leader of the Family and serves as the right hand of Master Nathan. A gruff middle aged man, he’s prone to barking at people and has a short temper. Alfons handles operations in the sewers hideout of the Family, where most of the Family’s rogues reside.

----

* ItGetsEasier: The advice he gives to the Princess if she’s distraught over [[spoiler:discovering he used her to assassinate someone.]]
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He’ll yell and bark, but in the end he’s more likely to pat you on the back for a job well done. [[spoiler:Alfons also defends the Princess after Cata proposes they sell her to the Dhorn and doesn’t even consider it for a second, since the Princess is now part of the Family and should be protected as anyone else in it.]]
* MentorArchetype: Mostly to Pia.
* ParentalSubstitute: Pia sees him as a father and they have a close mentor-student relationship.
* SergeantRock: Despite his rough exterior, he is respected by the Family for his leadership as much as Nathan and does actually care for the people in it.
* SoProudOfYou: Alfons doesn’t actually say it word for word, but by the end of Part One he’ll tell the Princess he’s impressed by how capable she’s become and trusts her enough to [[spoiler:rescue Nathan and the others]].
* UndyingLoyalty: To Nathan and the Family.
* YouDidntAsk: His response to the Princess if she asks why he didn’t tell her [[spoiler:that her mission to plant the clock in the tower was actually an assassination.]]

[[WMG:Chella]]

->''Put some food in your belly, child! You’ve been losing weight again.''

A big woman with a big heart Chella is the stern cook in charge of the kitchens in “The Bear Pit”. She’s an authoritative woman, well known and liked by the rest of the Family. Chella is very kind to the Princess and acts in a motherly fashion towards her from the start. She also helps the Princess with her first rogue lesson for the Family.

----

* ApronMatron: She certainly seems to play this role to most of the residents in “The Bear Pit”. Many also see her as intimidating at first glance.
* BearHug: Can give a good one, much to Rizzen’s horror.
* BigBeautifulWoman / BigFun: The “beautiful” part is left kind of ambiguous, but she’s definitely an amusing woman to be around.
* CynicismCatalyst: While she’s far from cynical, it’s clear she still mourns her daughter and is quite wary of the dangers the city poses to people, especially during the Dhorn occupation. Her loss might also explain her motherly attachment to the Princess and why she often worries about the girl’s safety and eating habits.
* MarshmallowHell: Her bear hugs tend to have this side effect…
* MasterOfDisguise: The player never sees her do it herself, but Chella’s the one that teaches the Princess how to disguise herself properly depending on the situation and role.
* ParentalSubstitute: Chella acts like a mother to the Princess and is a much clearer example of this trope than Nathan.
* RollingPinOfDoom: She likes to wave that or a wooden ladle around and is often mentioned to box the people in the kitchen’s ears with it, when they’re bickering or making trouble. Also one of the reasons why Caron seems a little afraid of her, especially since she is said to fiercely guard the Princess’ room from him. This prompts him to compare Chella to a dragon.
* TragicKeepsake: Her daughter's dress. She offers to lend it to the Princess but asks that she keep it safe.

[[WMG:Caron Davis]]

Caron is one of the lower ranking rogues working for the Family. Far from being a master, he’s still the first person to befriend the Princess and teach her how to pick pockets and locks. While he’s obviously interested in her Caron is also a good friend to the Princess and respects her wishes.

----

* BigBrotherMentor: To the Princess.
* ChivalrousPervert / HandsomeLech: Obviously enjoys chasing after women or even fondling them, but is still considerate of the Princess and will often apologize if she takes offence and finds his behavior too lewd.
* EthicalSlut: He quite enjoys sex and admits it's hard for him to say "no" to a girl.
* FiveFingerDiscount: Picking pockets is how he got noticed by the Family.
* GossipyHens: Well, more like a single male example of this. He likes to gossip with the Princess about other Family members, even if she doesn’t ask anything about them.
* LovableRogue: He's a shameless thief and often sleeps with women just for fun. But he's also charming and quite kind to the Princess.
* LovableSexManiac: Caron pretty much takes every opportunity to flirt with the Princess or catch her with less clothes on. But he will apologize if she feels offended and is shocked and disgusted at Vico if she confides in Caron what Vico did to her.
* ParentalAbandonment: His mother died when he was a boy and he never knew who his father was. Not that Caron seems particularly bothered by this, as he's had years to get used to it.
* StreetUrchin: Grew up as one.
* TongueTrauma: [[spoiler: As if torturing and gutting him wasn’t enough, it’s also apparent the Dhorn cut out his tongue and pulled out his teeth.]]

[[WMG:Tony Blake]]

A smuggler from Betancuria and member of the Family. He mostly seems to deal with smuggling [[DrugsAreBad poppy seeds]] and claims to be very experienced in “the game”. Tony appears to be one of the richest people in the Family and quickly takes a liking to the Princess, proposing she live with him as his lady and protégé.

----

* BattleCouple: Becomes one with the Princess during the exploration[=/=]cleansing of the tower during the smuggling quest.
* BenevolentBoss: He seems to treat his household servants well, especially considering he took Timo in as a cook and butler, after the latter survived the castle siege. Though Betta appears to be a little intimidated by Tony at one point.
* BigFancyHouse: He owns one of the fanciest houses in Betancuria.
* CaptainErsatz: He's quite obviously based on [[Film/{{Scarface 1983}} Tony Montana]].
* ClusterFBomb: Will talk like this very often. The Princess can point it out to him, but he’s not very used to talking in a normal way.
* CrazyJealousGuy: A bit towards the Princess, after she accepts living with him. Though he doesn’t threaten ''her'', he mentions he’d probably kill any man he catches sleeping with her.
* CrazyPrepared: His way of making deals is to always have backup in the form of hidden crossbowmen and temporarily hiring the services of a famous assassin. Just to make sure the other side will stay true to their word. [[spoiler:It still doesn’t save him in the end.]]
* EvilVirtues: He’s a drug dealer and not the least bit ashamed to admit it, yet has a few good qualities as well, being generally nice to his household and the Princess.
* EyepatchOfPower: His character design has an eye patch.
* {{Foreshadowing}}: During his quest, he'll share some of his past with the Princess during dinner, saying that his father used to also be a smuggler and Tony is following in his steps. [[spoiler:Then Tony mentions his father died being shot in the back. Guess how Tony dies later in the quest.]]
* PetTheDog: His general behavior towards the Princess, if she accepts becoming his lady.
* TemporaryLoveInterest: [[spoiler: Tony and the Princess can start a very intimate relationship, but it ends when his work as a smuggler gets him killed.]]
* TragicMistake: [[spoiler:Accepting the proposition of the Sargozian smugglers, who wish to visit him under the pretence that they want to meet his “new girl” – the Princess. They subsequently kill and rob him during the night.]]
* WorkingWithTheEx: Cata comes along during his quest.

[[WMG:Cata Meynolt]]

One of the Family’s highest ranking assassins and also one of the few members that Nathan reveals the Princess’ true identity to. Cata is cold and detached, so the rest of her character is mostly revealed through the optional “Tony the Tiger” quest and at the end of Part One of the module.

----

* AxCrazy: Certainly gives off this vibe. The fact that she’s an assassin doesn’t help.
* BeautyIsBad: Mentioned as being quite attractive, but her personality leaves much to be desired.
* ClingyJealousGirl: She’s rather hostile towards the Princess during Tony’s quest, even though Cata and Tony haven’t been a couple for over a year.
* ClusterFBomb: Aside from the first time you talk to her, she doesn’t seem to be able to stop swearing like a sailor every time she opens her mouth.
* EeriePaleSkinnedBrunette: Her character design is pale-skinned and has dark hair. She's also cold and creepy.
* FaceHeelTurn: [[spoiler: After Nathan and the residents of “The Bear Pit” are taken by Dhorn, she refuses Alfons’ plan to send a rescue party after them and proposes the rest of the Family just sell the Princess to the Dhorn and live with the bounty money, leaving Nathan and the other captives to their fate.]]
* {{Jerkass}}: Probably one of the biggest examples in the entire module.
* NoSocialSkills: Her complete lack of manners or regard for others is hard to miss.
* PetTheDog: Saving the Princess with a DivingSave from being crushed by a falling piece of rock at the end of Tony's questline.
* PrimAndProperBun: Has this hairstyle. But while she’s certainly a high ranking woman in the Family Cata is hardly a proper lady and commands more fear than actual respect.
* ProfessionalKiller: She's one of the Family's top assassins.
* ReligionOfEvil: Implied once by Tony. She seems to be involved in whatever Vico is practicing.
* {{Stripperiffic}}: Her outfit reveals quite a bit of her legs and chest.
* WorkingWithTheEx: In Tony’s quest.

[[WMG:Jacia Colds]]

A lieutenant in the Family, Jacia is in charge of the more sinister missions, usually involving assassinations. She is quite fond of her job and has some very macabre interests. Aside from being a rogue, she also specializes in sorcery, conducting arcane experiments and selling poisons.

----

* AndThenJohnWasAZombie: [[spoiler: Happens to her, while she’s thrown in a cell on the Isle of Prisoners, much like every other prisoner in that place. The Princess can resurrect her after Jacia attacks the party and gets killed, which brings her back to normal.]]
* BeautyIsBad: Described as being pretty, but also cold, vengeful and heartless.
* BestServedCold: One of her missions involves killing her ex-boyfriend, who cheated on her some time ago, and bringing her his head.
* CreepySouvenir / CollectorOfTheStrange: She likes to collect heads. ''Human'' heads.
* DisproportionateRetribution: If you value your life ''don't'' cheat on her, or she'll have your head. Literally.
* EvilLaugh: She cackles just like a witch.
* InTheHood: Jacia always has a hood, no matter the outfit she's given.
* LadyOfBlackMagic: She specializes in both assassinations and magic. She also mentions to have dabbled in some darker magic arts along with her former sorcerer colleagues.
* MasterPoisoner: Jacia makes and sells all kinds of poisons, from weak ones to the strongest you can find.
* MeaningfulName: A cold and heartless woman is named "Colds".
* RapeAsDrama: Implied, [[spoiler: especially considering you find her on the Isle of Prisoners naked in a cell, with demons roaming about. She mentions the Dhorn taking a liking to her, but refuses to talk about how she ended up in the cell and what happened before she became undead.]]
* TokenEvilTeammate:[[spoiler:Can become one temporarily, if you resurrect her before entering the Planes.]]
* WomanScorned: She’s not particularly happy with her ex-boyfriend cheating on her. Unfortunately for him, she’s in charge of handing out assassination missions...
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Dhorn]]

[[WMG:Arto Benthur]]

->''… all I’m interested in is taking whores to their graves. I consider that my - admittedly small – contribution to restoring order in this great city.''

A highly ambitious and scrupulous Dhorn colonel, whose primary task is enforcement of strict Dhorn morality laws on Betancuria denizens. Arto takes pride in his nickname - Skirt Chaser - given to him by fellow Dhorn due to his heavy involvement in hunting down and murdering prostitutes. He seems to enjoy his gruesome job and is not very selective about the methods he uses to get it done. Murder, torture, extortion and bribe all seem to be valid tools for him.

Arto also claims to have taken part in the siege of Betancuria Castle and witnessed the Queen’s suicide.

----

* AmbitionIsEvil: It’s eventually revealed that [[spoiler:his wish to marry the Princess in order to legitimize his claim to Betancuria and his quick rising in rank among Dhorn military are both means for him to eventually depose the current Dhorn Emperor and become Emperor of both Dhorn and Betancuria himself.]]
* AndNowYouMustMarryMe: [[spoiler: His eventual plan for the Princess.]]
* DealWithTheDevil: [[spoiler: He also made one with the Old Man near the end in order to acquire the Princess and force her into marriage, while using her own deal at the same time to send what remains of the Family to prison. Of course, it turns out the Old Man had some reasons of his own for helping him…]]
* DisproportionateRetribution: His method of dealing with criminals or even people who just cross him.
* EveryManHasHisPrice: Usually combines this with some sort of intimidation in order to make people more amenable.
* FauxAffablyEvil: Tries to present himself as very polite and courteous, but his sadism quickly surfaces.
* GoldDigger: [[spoiler:Wants to marry the Princess because that would legitimize his claim to Betancuria’s throne.]]
* {{Hypocrite}}: He calls decapitation a “barbaric habit”. Not too long after that he [[spoiler:kills Tarleth by cutting her head off in front of the Princess.]] Another example could be how he tries to come off as a pious and virtuous man, eradicating any immoral characters, while he himself [[spoiler:makes a deal with a demon – something which is punishable by death in-universe – in order to achieve his ambitions.]]
* IKissYourHand: Does this to the Princess during one of her missions [[spoiler:right before trying to strangle her.]]
* InSeriesNickname: “Skirt Chaser”. Unfortunately, it has a much more sinister meaning than one would expect.
* JackBauerInterrogationTechnique: Quite prone to using torture to get the information he needs.
* KickTheDog: Expect him to do this pretty much every time he's shown.
* KillItWithFire: Seems to like this method of torture and killing, considering [[spoiler:he sets a house on fire, while the Princess is inside]] and describes in detail the heated cage procedure he uses for interrogation.
* KnightTemplar: Arto can’t seem to grasp that he may be wrong about anything.
* MakeItLookLikeAnAccident: [[spoiler: Implied he may have done this to his wife in order to be free to marry the Princess.]]
* MoralGuardians: An extreme version of this.
%%zce* OffWithHerHead: [[spoiler: Poor Tarleth…]]
* SmugSnake: Very overconfident and proud of everything he does, no matter how wrong it is.
* SoftSpokenSadist: Practically never flinches or loses his cool, and almost always speaks very politely and calmly, even after killing someone or planning to torture them.
* TheStarscream: Heavily implied to be one to the Dhorn Emperor as the game progresses.
* StepfordSmiler: Type C. He’s often smiling… right before trying to kill you.
* TyrantTakesTheHelm: He’s put in charge of “cleaning up” Betancuria of crime and prostitution after the war.
* VillainousRescue: It’s possible that the first time the Princess can meet him is when he stops several men from gang-raping her. [[spoiler:His hunting party also accidentally stumbles upon the imprisoned Anden and Norah, while searching for the Princess in the Underdark, and frees and recruits them under the false guise of trying to help the Princess.]]
* VillainWithGoodPublicity: Among the Dhorn anyway, though there are also some among them who don’t approve of his methods and are aware of his ambitions.

[[WMG:Simon Lyonson]]

->''Gold means power, and those who have power make the rules. If people believe that you’ve got power, they’ll kiss your feet, no matter what you do. That’s how it is in Dhorn and anywhere else in the world.''

A prominent Dhorn noble, occasionally residing in Betancuria, and a good friend of Jero Fetton and Alen Kley. Simon Lyonson provides a glimpse into the different faces of Dhorn society, as he doesn’t seem keen on following rules and zealously guarding morality the same way most Dhorn do in Betancuria. Even though he himself doesn't show much interest in frivolous sex or drinking, he doesn't share the same stern views on women, sex, and prostitution that some of his counterparts do.

----

* AnOfferYouCantRefuse: He asks the Princess to help him raid the treasury of Betancuria Castle before other Dhorn officials do, in exchange for information on the whereabouts of Nathan and the Family… and the Princess’ life.
* AuthorFilibuster: An interesting case, since it doesn't stop the plot and is optional. If you infiltrate Simon's house in Betancuria, there is a note that can be found and read on his desk, which states his (and the author's) opinion on censorship and freedom of thought and expression.
* BenevolentBoss: Is quite respectful and thankful to his servants and guards. He’s also best friends with his bodyguard Jero and the Dhorn ranger Alen.
* BlueBlood: He's one of Dhorn's higher ranking nobles.
* BodyDouble: [[spoiler:If you accepted Jacia’s assassination contract and killed him, it turns out you only killed his body double.]]
* CynicismCatalyst: Considering his wife and child died some time ago…
* DeadpanSnarker: Simon is quite sarcastic about everything, even in dangerous situations.
* GlorySeeker: Shows some signs of this, as he admits part of him wanted to be on the front lines in the siege of Betancuria, because “it’s the stuff legends are made of”.
* HiddenHeartOfGold: Seems to be yet another character who wishes to just exploit the Princess for his own benefit. And while he does take advantage of her situation to force her into helping him, he also turns out to be nicer than expected, keeps his promises to her and is one of the very few male characters who don’t try to sleep with her. Simon will also honestly sympathize with her predicament, if she shares her past experiences, and offer to take her under his protection, after their mission is over.
* TheLostLenore: He’s not interested in most women as he explains the only woman he ever loved died in childbed along with his baby.
* MySpeciesDothProtestTooMuch: One of the few Dhorn that don’t care to impose the strict moral principals zealots like Arto believe in. Simon actually despises Arto and everything he stands for and believes Dhorn society shouldn’t be so close-minded when it comes to sex and sexuality.
* NobleDemon: Simon is pretty much the only somewhat decent Dhorn you meet. While he does think it’s necessary to kill some Dhorn soldiers during the infiltration of the Castle and his morality is firmly grey, his ultimate goal is to stop Arto Benthur from getting his hands on the Betancuria treasury, which considering Arto’s ambitions and cruelty would have only caused trouble. He’s also the only Dhorn that admits he wishes the war didn’t end so brutally for Betancuria and the Princess.
* NotDistractedByTheSexy: Considering he and the Princess spend the majority of their mission both completely naked due to losing their equipment, Simon isn’t the least bit bothered or distracted by it. Though he’ll occasionally study her body and tease her about the situation.
* NotQuiteDead: [[spoiler:Thanks to his body double.]]
* OffWithHisHead: Jacia, as always, asks that you bring her his head after assassinating him. [[spoiler:Turns out you unknowingly brought her someone else’s.]]
* PetTheDog: He’s willing to listen to the Princess as she tells her story of the night Betancuria Castle fell and her rape. Afterwards, he sympathizes with her, shows regret for what happened in the Castle and even offers to take her in.
* TheReveal: [[spoiler:He’s actually one of Emperor Dhorn’s sons. The very same Emperor that ordered the attack on Betancuria Castle, which led to the slaughter of its residents, including the Princess’ family.]]
* RoyalsWhoActuallyDoSomething: [[spoiler: He's both a noble and a prince, but has no problem devising a dangerous plan to hinder Arto's ambitions and get his own hands dirty when he needs to.]]
* ShipTease: His interactions with the Princess can include flirting on both sides, even potentially coming to talks of marriage. [[spoiler:It doesn’t lead anywhere, as at the end of the mission they both go their separate ways.]]
* TheSummation: Simon is the only character in the game that reveals the reasons behind the war between Dhorn and Betancuria, which not even the Princess or Nathan knew.
* WarriorPrince: [[spoiler: He’s obviously a skilled fighter for an emperor's son and admits he felt some disappointment in not being able to take part in the battle against Betancuria.]]

[[WMG:Jero Fetton]]

A young and cocky Dhorn soldier that can be encountered in Betancuria. He is Simon’s friend and bodyguard and is involved in several optional quests, as well as in one of the main quests near the end of Part One.

----

* AnOfferYouCantRefuse / SexualExtortion: He tries to do this twice with the Princess, first during their first encounter, where he propositions her in exchange for not branding her a prostitute and arresting her, and the second time in Simon’s quest. Though rejecting him in both doesn’t lead to him following up on his threats, as other people will intervene in the Princess’ favor.
* CoitusUninterruptus: Not while in Betancuria, since there he looks for a private place, probably due to what he's doing being illegal for Dhorn officers. But during Simon's mission, Jero will try to convince the Princess to sleep with him again. If she accepts, he just does it right in the same room with Simon and Alen not too far away and admits this isn't the first time he's done it with a woman with them around.
* DistractedByTheSexy: A variation. If the Princess agrees to sleep with him (and is good at it), he’ll be willing to give her any information she needs and even arrange a meeting with Simon.
* {{Jerkass}}: He can act somewhat charmingly or seem almost harmless. Doesn't change the fact that he'll try to force the Princess to sleep with him by taking advantage of her difficult situation or, if she manages to avoid it, will grope her whenever he gets the chance. And not feel any guilt about any of his actions.
* HandsomeLech: Of the more {{Jerkass}} variety.
* TheHedonist: Seems to be this with his tendency to drink and sleep with prostitutes, which is quite unusual for a Dhorn encountered early in the game, enough that even Nathan seems interested in finding out more about him.
* OhCrap: When he sees their group is [[spoiler:surrounded by Arto and another Dhorn official’s troops, just after they finished robbing the treasury]].

[[WMG:Alen Kley]]

A Dhorn ranger and close associate of Simon and Jero. He can be first encountered during the optional “Tony the Tiger” quest and later takes part in Simon’s robbery.

----

* CoitusUninterruptus: If the Princess accepts sleeping with Jero during Simon's mission, Alen and Simon are in the same room and Alen will join in after a while, even if the Princess doesn't want him to.
* DualWielding: Prefers a sword and dagger to a bow.
* ForestRanger: He is a capable one, though he seems to avoid ever using a bow.
* HellBentForLeather: Wears a red leather armor.
* HighlyConspicuousUniform: Considering he’s a ranger and Simon’s stealth expert, it’s odd he manages to stay hidden with clothes that are a bright red colour. Lampshaded by Tony and Cata, who question his choice of clothing colour as a ranger and immediately recognize him as a [[ColorCodedForYourConvenience Dhorn]] as well.
* {{Jerkass}}: He seems to be the most insensitive one of Simon’s group. Particularly if the Princess agrees to sleep with Jero in Simon’s mission, as Alen will join in afterwards with little regard to her wishes, more or less forces himself on her if she tries to resist, and then makes fun of her.
* MadeOfIron: During the "Tony the Tiger" sidequest, he survived being backstabbed and pushed down a cliff into a river by Vico.
* StealthExpert: Manages to sneak up on the Princess.
* StickEmUp: Does this when he captures the Princess, only with a sword to her back.
* TakingYouWithMe / HeroicSacrifice: [[spoiler: He casts a fireball into Arto and Mortenson’s men, taking several people down, while being shot with arrows himself. This also gives enough time to Simon and the Princess to get to safety.]]
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Others]]

[[WMG:Baron Ravenstower]]

The ruler of Ravenstower - a small barony up north. An old and grumpy man, he expects everyone to obey him and does as he pleases. Despite this, it seems the people of his barony respect him. The Princess meets him after she and Pia are accidentally teleported into Ravenstower by a spell gone wrong during the main quest. His fate plays a crucial part in getting them back.

----

* AristocratsAreEvil: Maybe not completely evil, but still a terrible person to be around, especially if you’re a pretty young woman.
* BlueBlood: And he feels quite entitled because of it.
* DirtyOldMan: Agrees to help the Princess and Pia go back, but only if they provide him with “entertainment” during the whole winter.
* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: He's an arrogant and depraved old man that likes to always get his way. [[spoiler:Despite that, he still shows great concern and sadness upon seeing his niece Lady Dana's dead body and immediately commands the Princess to resurrect her.]]
* GirlOnGirlIsHot: If the Princess accepts going to Baron Ravenstower's room together with Pia, he'll order Pia to perform sexual acts on her.
* IHaveYouNowMyPretty: With Pia and the Princess.
* {{Jerkass}}: Very much. He acts entirely in self-interest, lacks manners, and is lecherous enough to blackmail two young women to be his sexual partners without remorse.
* LetsGetDangerous: Despite his age Baron Ravenstower [[spoiler:doesn’t hesitate to battle the traitors, when they refuse to surrender and try to attack him again.]]
* NoDeadBodyPoops: [[spoiler: Pia notes he soiled himself when he suddenly dies.]]
* ScrewPolitenessImASenior: Considering he’s a baron, he certainly lacks the manners required of nobility.
* UngratefulBastard: [[spoiler:Don’t expect to hear a thank you after bringing him back from the dead. But at least he does finally let you go home and admits you were right about Terek’s betrayal.]]
* VillainWithGoodPublicity: Obviously a jerk and likes to threaten people and always get his way. Yet, for some reason, it seems the people of his barony are content with him.

[[WMG:Christiano Arniman]]

An arrogant paladin in his middle years and a member of the Church of the Sun Lord. Christiano and his younger companion Myra recruit the Princess with promise of a hefty reward for a mission in Part One. His mission for the Church involves exploring the Temple of Hyath, where an evil cult dwelled, and retrieving a golden chalice from it. What drives him in his passion to find the chalice, whether it's true religious zeal or the prestige of reclaiming the artifact, is not entirely clear.

----

* BattleCouple: With Myra.
* BreakTheHaughty: [[spoiler: Even after being Hyath’s prisoner on the Planes, he’s still haughty and rude towards you. However, if you rescue him from the Planes, manage to keep him from dying and offer friendly advice, by the end he’ll be very grateful and seems to be on the road to become a better person.]]
* ChurchMilitant: Obviously, since he's a paladin and specifically on a church mission.
* DespairEventHorizon: [[spoiler:If Myra dies during the mission, he'll blame the Princess in his desperation and attack her.]]
* DirtyOldMan: He’s significantly older than the Princess, as she’s canonically in her late teens or early twenties. Doesn’t stop him one bit from lusting after her and trying to coax her into sleeping with him.
* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: He does care for Myra, even if his actions towards her aren’t noble.
* GloryHound: Christiano’s obviously obsessed with finding the chalice, but judging by his actions and words, it seems he’s only doing it to gain prestige with the Church.
* HolierThanThou: Sees himself as morally superior to the Princess.
* {{Hypocrite}}: Claims he’s a servant of good, justice and the Church. [[spoiler:Is actually too caught up in his own quest for glory, regularly breaks his vows to abstain from sex, cheats on Myra and drugs her, is quick to condemn people, and the list of his flaws goes on…]]
%%zce* {{Jerkass}}: Is he ever.
* LightIsNotGood: He's supposed to be a holy knight, but his character is far from holy.
* MayDecemberRomance: Judging by the Princess’ description of the two, he’s likely at least ten years older than Myra.
* NearRapeExperience: [[spoiler: This will happen if the Princess refuses to sleep with him. He’ll keep trying to coax her into it and grope her, but if she keeps resisting, he’ll stop. Notable in that Christiano isn’t shocked by what he did and doesn’t blame himself at all.]]
* NeverMyFault: Doesn’t take responsibility for anything.
* ThePaladin: Deconstructed. His self-righteousness makes him blind to his many flaws and too quick to judge and condemn others or use them, without realizing he’s not much better himself.
* ParentalAbandonment: His background includes this. His parents were killed by bandits, when he was a child, so he was taken in by the monastery and trained as a paladin.
* ReincarnatedAsTheOppositeSex: [[spoiler: Whether he survives or dies during his quest in Part 1, he is turned into a succubus in the latter half of Part 2. The Princess can sacrifice 10% of her total XP in order to have him resurrected and freed from Hyath; however, he doesn't get his old body back, and is permanently stuck being a woman.]]
* SlippingAMickey: Apparently he does this to Myra on occasion to make her sleep. [[spoiler:Especially when he wants to hit on the Princess without Myra noticing.]]
%%* SmiteEvil: One of his powers.
* TooDumbToLive: [[spoiler:Threatening Hyath and pointing a weapon at him, considering the latter is a huge demon lord. Christiano ends up with his arm torn off, or possibly even dead.]]
* WasOnceAMan: [[spoiler: Literally. You can meet him near the end of the module in the Planes, where he's undead and [[GenderBender turned into a succubus]] as punishment. Though you can have him resurrected and give him a chance for a new life, he still remains physically female.]]

[[WMG:Myra Waynolt]]

A cleric and Christiano’s companion and lover. She’s devoted to the paladin and accompanies him and the Princess to the Summer Islands and the temple of Hyath to help Christiano search for the golden chalice.

----

* ActionGirl: She's quite an effective fighter.
* BattleCouple: With Christiano.
* ChurchMilitant: Also goes on missions for her church, like Christiano.
* ClingyJealousGirl: A bit towards Christiano.
* CombatMedic: Since she's a Cleric, she acts as the party's healer during the mission.
* DespairEventHorizon: [[spoiler:If the Princess lets Hyath kill Christiano by leaving him to bleed, Myra will cry and attack the demon in her despair, knowing she stands no chance against him. Hyath kills her with one blow as a result.]]
* GoodIsNotNice: She can be rude and mean to the Princess. Compared to Christiano, however, she actually turns out to be the truly good person of the duo, shows real concern for the Princess at one point, and is much less judgmental when it comes to serious things.
* HolierThanThou: Is dismissive of the Princess, since the latter is helping them mostly for payment and Myra vocally points out that ''her'' order has no interest in money and earthly gains.
* MayDecemberRomance: Myra’s fairly younger than Christiano.
* NaughtyNuns: She’s actually a cleric, but she did grow up in a monastery like Christiano.
* ParentalAbandonment: Like Christiano, she is an orphan and raised in the same monastery. Unlike him, however, she never even knew her parents.
* SickAndWrong: Myra often has this reaction to most things found in the Temple of Hyath. Including clothes.
* SlaveToPR: According to Christiano she’s very fervent in her job because she wants to prove the rumors of her father being a priest wrong.

[[WMG:Hyath]]

Hyath is a powerful and cunning demon, utterly relentless and apparently evil, but for such a being, he's not entirely unreasonable. He shows some obscure interest in the Princess and has an unclear relation with another powerful being called the Nameless One. He can be first encountered in the Temple of Hyath during Christiano’s mission. In Part Two he’ll be in the Planes, where he serves the Old Man.

----

* AffablyEvil: He's usually polite and can help you out, but that doesn't change the fact that he's cunning, manipulative and cruel.
* BigBrotherIsWatching:[[spoiler:The ring he gives to the Princess allows him to see and hear everything around her and also telepathically communicate with her, on the grounds that he wants to look after her and make sure she’s safe. She can call him out on it being creepy and invading.]]
* ChronicBackstabbingDisorder: [[spoiler: Are you really surprised he keeps tricking you? He ''is'' a demon.]]
* TheCorrupter: Tries to steer the Princess away from her mission with Christiano and Myra, and get him freed in the process, by acting friendly and voicing her suspicions that Christiano may hurt her and try to get rid of her.
* CurbStompBattle:[[spoiler:If he’s summoned, Christiano will threaten him, certain that he’ll defeat the demon by the power of his deity. Hyath just nonchalantly tears his arm off. He’ll also kill Myra with just one hit, unless the Princess begs him to spare them.]]
** Also happens later when [[spoiler:the Princess returns to him with the statue from Delberg Castle. He kills her with minimum effort.]]
* DealWithTheDevil: Offers one to the Princess if she asks him to [[spoiler:free Christiano from the Planes and resurrect him]]. Hyath demands some of her experience points in return.
* EvilMentor: To the Princess in a sense, should she accept his rewards, especially the enchanted Demon Armor that he offers.
* FalseFriend: [[spoiler: If the Princess befriends him. [[AlternateCharacterInterpretation Maybe]]. His motives are unclear even by the end, because every time he seems to betray her, in some small way it ultimately benefits her, which leaves him and his goals a mystery.]]
* FalseInnocenceTrick: [[spoiler: When the Princess first encounters him, he takes the form of a Shadow, warns her of danger and acts kind, innocent and understanding. If she agrees to free him later by drawing symbols with her blood, Hyath will appear in his true form and reveal he used her to escape his prison.]]
* FigureItOutYourself: Provided the Princess didn’t summon him in the temple, near the end of Part Two she can ask Hyath how he knows about the way Christiano treated her. Hyath just tells her she’ll figure it out if she thinks about it. [[spoiler:Hyath was the Shadow and saw how Christiano treated her through the ring.]]
* ForcefulKiss: The creepy kind, when he transports the Princess near Castle Delberg.
* HiddenAgendaVillain: His motives regarding the Princess remain vague and are subject to many guesses and speculations.
* ObviouslyEvil: In his true form, though [[spoiler:even him appearing as a Shadow near a blood-stained altar should have been a dead giveaway.]]
* OffWithHerHead: [[spoiler: According to Cytan, this is the way Hyath killed the Princess.]]
* ReligionOfEvil: There was a whole cult following him in the past, its priests doing all kinds of hideously cruel things in his name, especially to captive women.
* TortureTechnician: [[spoiler:To Christiano when the latter dies and his soul becomes imprisoned in the Planes.]]

[[WMG:The Old Man]]

A mysterious figure found in the Planes later in Part Two, he plays a crucial role in the Princess’ future. The Old Man proposes a deal to the the Princess - to steal a certain statue from Delberg Castle in exchange for the lives of captive Family members, her own life and that of her companions.

----

* AffablyEvil: Is polite and soft-spoken, but obviously evil and very powerful. He doesn't even try to hide it as he ''can'' kill you and your companions with literally just a snap of his fingers.
* AnOfferYouCantRefuse: The deal he proposes to the Princess.
* BadassFingerSnap: He has enough power to kill people or bring them back to life just by snapping his fingers and will demonstrate it.
* BigBrotherIsWatching: Somehow he knows everything the Princess has been through and has done up to that point. When asked he just replies he has many sources.
* ChronicBackstabbingDisorder: [[spoiler: Don’t expect any deal with him to turn out the way you wanted.]]
* DealWithTheDevil: He offers one to the Princess. Even the name of the related quest in her journal is called ''A Dance with the Devil''.
* ForTheEvulz: Wants the Princess to steal Earl Delberg’s statue while his castle is besieged by orcs, because it would be amusing to cause the Earl even ''more'' pain. [[spoiler:Probably the same reason he infects the Princess with a deadly contagious disease that has the potential to kill everyone around her.]]
* HumanoidAbomination: Whatever the Old Man is, it probably isn’t human. Some characters will express belief that he’s likely a powerful demon.
* TheManBehindTheMan: [[spoiler: Turns out he’s also struck a deal with Arto Benthur, who wishes to marry the Princess. The Old Man uses Arto’s ambitions to manipulate him by giving him the Princess, but infecting her with [[ThePlague demon pox]], which will burst out and spread if she touches her wedding ring, possibly causing hundreds of people’s deaths, including Arto and the Princess.]]
* NoNameGiven: His name is never revealed, with everyone just referring to him as an old man.
* PlagueMaster: [[spoiler:His true plan was to have the Princess infected with demon pox and have both her and all the people she comes in contact with die as a result.]]

[[WMG:Earl Bartholomeus Delberg]]

Earl Bartholomeus Delberg is the Earl of Delberg. He lives in Delberg Castle with his wife the Countess Flora. When the Princess meets them, the castle has been under siege by orcs for a month, forcing the Earl’s people to be stuck inside with little food. Despite the situation the Earl welcomes the Princess as his guest.

----

* BlueBlood: A descendant of an old and respected noble family.
* BringHelpBack: [[spoiler:The Earl will ask this of the Princess if she managed to win his support and admits her real reason for being in the castle. He'll let her go with the promise that after she frees her friends she'll come with help to stop the orcs from killing the survivors of Delberg Castle.]]
* CoolUncle: To Mona, a female knight who came to visit him and became stuck in the castle due to the orc siege. She affectionately calls him "Uncle Bart" and admits he's always been very kind to her and she admires him. Even if she does consider him too serious.
* AFatherToHisMen: He cares greatly for both the people under his protection and his own knights and guards.
* HappyMarriageCharade: Earl Delberg and his wife pretend to be a normal couple in front of their guests. In reality they hate each other and the Countess is having an affair.
* HonorBeforeReason: Despite his wife’s and some of his closest people’s wishes, he refuses to [[spoiler:give the Princess to the Dhorn in exchange for their military help in saving the castle and its residents.]] May be subverted if [[spoiler:the Princess didn’t earn at least his knights’ respect, at which point nobody will support her and he gives in to his people’s advice to imprison her.]]
* LastStand: In one ending you find him, Mona and his knights doing this against a group of orcs in the underground caverns.
* OldSchoolChivalry: One of the most polite, courteous and kind men you meet.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: He’s willing to listen to the Princess, should she decide to explain her reasons for stealing the statue.
* SacredHospitality: Extends it to the Princess, despite the difficult situation everyone in the castle’s in. [[spoiler:May be subverted depending on the Princess’ interactions with people in the castle.]]
* SoProudOfYou:[[spoiler:He’s proud of the Princess if she keeps her word to return with help and manages to save him and his knights from the orcs. In the end he even names her his sole heir for her honorable deed.]]
* WhatTheHellHero: The Earl’s rightfully angry at the Princess for wanting to steal his statue, especially considering he offered her shelter and the statue is prophesized to be the only thing keeping the castle from falling.

[[WMG:Mona Waldner]]

Lady Mona Waldner is one of the knights defending the Delberg Castle from ongoing orc siege. A relative of the Earl, she was actually only visiting him when the orcs attacked, so she is now basically trapped in the castle, spending most of her time in the company of her two fellow knights, Sir Haller and Sir Willoud.

----

* ActionGirl: She's the only one among her many sisters to choose being a knight as a profession, is on guard duty in Delberg during the siege, along with her fellow knights, and will not hesitate to fight for her uncle and the Princess, should the latter earn her trust. In one ending she'll also be found fighting orcs along with the Earl and the few survivors of the castle.
* AffectionateNickname: She likes to call the Earl "Uncle Bart".
* BlueBlood: She is a distant relative of Earl Delberg himself, being a daughter of one of the Earl's cousins.
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: Has beautiful blonde hair and is one of the more well-meaning and honorable characters in the game.
* LadyOfWar: The Princess describes Mona as a very graceful lady--and she is certainly proficient with a sword.
* LastStand: In one of the possible endings she fights an overwhelming number of orcs along with her uncle and a few other survivors, with no hope of actually winning the fight.
* NotStayingForBreakfast: If the Princess has a one-night stand with Mona, she will be nowhere to be found the next morning. [[spoiler:She does come back to support the Princess during the dispute over turning her over to the Dhorn.]]
* TheTease: Admits she likes teasing Thell - the Earl's young bodyguard, by showing him her chest, because she thinks he's cute when embarrassed. Mona also claims both Sir Haller and Sir Willoud like her, but she hasn't made up her mind about which one to choose, because she likes that they're both nice to her this way.

[[WMG:Maren Amraphenneset]]

A strange, succubus-like undead creature the Princess meets on the penultimate level of the [[HellholePrison Isle of Prisoners]]. Despite her condition, Maren is a cheerful and even mischievous girl who is more than happy about the Princess' company.

----

* AuthorAvatar: In the earliest versions, this character went by the name "Valine" (the same as the creator of the module).
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: When the Princess and Maren first meet, the former is very likely to be naked (since all armor is forcefully stripped from your inventory before teleporting to the Isle of Prisoners, and there is none to be found inside), which Maren will cheerfully point out. The Princess can then rightfully retort that Maren does not exactly have much on herself, to which Maren replies with unwavering cheer that that she, at least, is wearing her "booties", leaving the Princess at a loss for words.
* CreepySouvenir: Maren keeps around some of the heads of the criminals who killed her and the skulls of the cultists who used to visit her for sex.
* CuteAndPsycho: She's a non-hostile, even extremely friendly undead and behaves almost like a little girl, yet it goes to show something isn't right with her when you see how she's [[RoomFullOfCrazy decorated her room]]... However, she never becomes hostile towards the player, unless attacked.
* DeathIsASlapOnTheWrist: This is how she treats her own death in-universe. Everyone on the island comes back as a zombie after dying but only Maren seems to have retained her original, pre-mortem personality.
* TheDitz: While she does know a lot about what's happened on the Isle of Prisoners and the other denizens' condition, she often uses childish words to describe everything, and doesn't seem to grasp or outright dismisses the horror of the place and her own situation.
* {{Foil}}: To the Princess. Both Maren and the Princess have been {{Sheltered Aristocrat}}s and pretty much [[PrincessClassic Princesses Classic]] before their respective royal fathers' power fell to a peasant revolt and to a foreign invasion, respectively. However, where the Princess survived and faced a life full of pain and humiliation, Maren died and returned to an unlife that is pretty much as carefree and spoiled as her old life. As a result, the Princess is a hardened survivor by the time they meet, while Maren is still the same childlike princess she was centuries ago.
* HotAsHell: While her exact nature is unclear, she is definitely demonic in appearance and is quite eager to get hands-on with the Princess.
* ImaginaryFriend: Kinda. The Princess can try to tell her companions about Maren and even lead them to her lair, but Maren always hides if the Princess is not alone when she enters her room.
* InformationBroker[=/=]SexForServices: Maren knows quite a bit about the dungeon and is willing to share that information with the Princess... in return for having sex with her. And, with her being an undead and all, each answer costs the Princess two points of Constitution (thankfully, the damage is not permanent).
* ManChild: Her mind seems to have never developed past immature teenage princess.
* MathematiciansAnswer: When you ask her what she is, she cheerfully replies: "I'm Maren!"
* OutWithABang: Maren seems disappointed that the cultists that used to come and play with her didn't last very long.
* PowerPerversionPotential: What Maren uses her PrehensileTail for.
* PrehensileTail: As befitting for a demon-like creature.
* PrincessClassic: Behaves like one despite her condition. She readily reveals that she was the daughter of the last king who ruled over the lands around the Lake of Sorrow centuries ago, before the entire castle quite literally went to hell. After the locals rebelled against her father, she was thrown into the dungeon and left to die--and she did, only to come back pretty much unchanged.
* RapeAsBackstory: Implied, since she mentions being thrown in the dungeon by the villagers, said dungeon being full of criminals at the time. Maren says the "bad men" hurt her many times before eventually killing her out of starvation. [[OutOFCharacterMoment Even her cheerful demeanor changes while she's telling this story]].
* RoomFullOfCrazy: Her room is actually an old prison cell she decorated with the heads of some of the criminals who killed her and the skulls of the cultists who [[TooDumbToLive thought it was a good idea to sleep with her]].
* WasOnceAPerson: Before dying and becoming what she is now, she was actually a young princess, very much like the protagonist.
* WingedHumanoid: She has two leathery wings on her back.
