!Pokémon World
!! Montblanc Family

A family that resides in Alola and is the family Gladion belongs to.
----
* DysfunctionalFamily: A patriarch that's out of the picture, a matriarch that's an Otaku and was briefly turned into a psychopath thanks to Nihilego's toxins, a son who's stuck in his own little world, and a daughter who's willing to wallow in spite when her brother goes missing. Yeah, they got a few issues.

Gladion's younger sister. Formerly suffered from a terrible trauma that rendered her deeply afraid of Pokémon, connected to a certain incident years ago. While recent events and the support of her friends have helped her finally conquer that fear, she has also come to question how much of her suffering might have been avoidable...
----
* AccompliceByInaction: As much as she doesn't want to admit it, Dulse correctly points out that Lillie's just as responsible for her situation with Nihilego, since while Gladion kept his fair share of secrets, Lillie was just as secretive about what was bothering her and instead blamed her mom for being inattentive. And unlike Gladion, she doesn't have a half-baked excuse to justify it.
* AdaptationalAngstUpgrade: Lillie seemed to bounce back immediately after everything that happened in the anime. Here, she's come to realize how much her brother's absence affected her, and became bitter at him as a result.
* AdaptationalDumbass: Her spite and anger in this story causes her to take several... Questionable decisions, chief among them being her decision to give Gladion a flower bouquet.
* AdaptationRelationshipOverhaul: Because of the above trope, Lillie comes to hate Gladion, though she expresses it in a passive-aggressive way.
** Mallow and Lillie were friends in canon, but they didn't get that much focus. In here, their relationship gets a little bit of focus, and it's as strained as you'd expect from a spiteful brat who won't let go of her anger and a former Passenger who won't open up about the nature of the Train. Especially when Lillie starts projecting onto Ulu...
* AdaptationalJerkass: At least in regards to Gladion: she's a lot more snippy and petty when he's brought into the picture, giving him orange lilies and convincing herself that she wouldn't mind if he would go to a bad place because then he'd know how she felt. Lana outright even calls this change Lillie's 'bitch phase'.
** This gets more pronounced near the end of Act 1, where she outright snaps at Mallow's brother Ulu for a honest mistake, and tries to justify it by projecting her relationship with Gladion onto his relationship with Mallow, something that Mallow herself doesn't appreciate.
* AffectionateGestureToTheHead: Does this to Snowy during Professor Kukui's explanation.
* AngerIsNotEnough: As is common in these kinds of stories, Lillie's inability to let go of her anger and spite brings nothing but heartache to everyone involved. Case in point, her wanting to passively-aggressively tell Gladion that she hated him caused the entire story to happen.
* AnnoyingYoungerSibling: Downplayed. Lillie has every right to be pissed off at Gladion, but her way of expressing these frustrations annoy Gladion to no end, with Lillie's increasing pettiness not helping the situation.
* ArmorPiercingQuestion:
** When Gladion remarks that he's glad that it's over, Lillie sternly asks him why he's more concerned at the fact something's over rather than the fact she's okay.
** Dulse gave her one back; if she was suffering from trauma all this time, why did she never tell this to her mother?
* AwfulTruth:
** That Gladion knew about the Nihilego incident all along and never even bothered to tell her. This effectively shatters the admiration she had for him.
** She also suffers another bout of this in Blossoming Trail, realizing that not only would her orange lily bouquet gift would've sent Gladion to the Train, and Mallow had warned her about not giving Gladion said bouquet, but that if he had gotten hurt or even died, it would've been entirely her fault.
** Dulse brings up another one; that as much as she wants to claim that Gladion is solely at fault for not telling anybody, not even Lusamine, about the Nihilego incident, Lillie's just as responsible for keeping quiet despite knowing she was suffering from some trauma.
* TheBet: Makes one with Lusamine regarding how long it might take for her to forgive Gladion: if they've patched things up by six months time, Lillie has to go with Lusamine to cosplay at a convention. If they're still at each other's throats by then, Lusamine steps down as leader of Aether Foundation.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Lillie's one of the nicest members of Ash's Alolan group, so it's not only shocking, but terrifying how much anger she can hold towards a person.
* BigBrotherWorship: She used to have high regard for Gladion. Keyword being used to.
* BrokenPedestal: Her former regard for her brother faded away after the reality of how he'd left her behind and treated her sunk in.
* DumbBlonde: Lillie's hair is almost as white as snow, and while not intellectually dumb, her focus on her spite and anger causes her to take a few questionable choices, like the one that started this entire story.
* FatalFlaw: Spite and resentment. After discovering the truth that Gladion kept from her, Lillie goes the extra mile to make it clear how much she hates him by giving him orange lilies. Then, when he disappears, she convinces herself that she doesn't care, as she's the wronged party and Gladion will now know what she felt, displaying such LackOfEmpathy and NoSympathy that Mallow blows up at her in Blossoming Trail by stating that Gladion wouldn't have been on it if she thought things through.
* FemalesAreMoreInnocent: No she is not. She's the reason that Gladion is on the Train, refused to listen to Mallow's warning on why you don't give someone orange lilies and Dulse points out that while Gladion did make idiotic moves, why didn't she tell her mother that she had trouble interacting with Pokémon sooner?
* Foil:
** Parker: Both are younger siblings who idolized their older siblings, both of whom wound up boarding the Train. For Parker, however, this is a new experience, and his faith and admiration of Chloe hold firm and he's shown to get angry at those who hurt his sister (whether indirectly or directly). Lillie dealt with her brother's absence for years, spurring her to reject him before he boards. Parker has no Pokémon on him, barring him trying to train with Yamper in Chloe's absence, while Lillie has her Alolan Vulpix, Snowy.
** Nate: Another younger sibling who also played a key role in their brother winding up on the Train. Jesse's passivity led to Nate's arm getting broken by Jesse's "friends" forcing him through a 'manliness test'. Gladion similarly witnessed his sister being traumatized by Nihilego and promptly left her behind while he ran off with Type: Null, aggravating the situation. Nate forgave his brother for the stunt, Lillie is not willing to be that forgiving.
** To Chloe herself as they are both white-dressed girls with green eyes who show anger at a boy (Gladion/Goh) for practically abandoning them on some grand quest. The main difference is that Chloe got on the Train, not Lillie and that Chloe could tell her father to bug off while Lillie shows concerns about her mother. And while Chloe doesn't make her anger towards her tormentors subtle at all, Lillie decides to employ PassiveAggressiveKombat.
** To Mallow in regards to Gladion: Mallow has concerns about where he went because of her experiences with the Infinity Train, while Lillie could give a flying feather about his whereabouts.
* FreudianSlip: A mental one. While pondering about a potential dead-end dialogue she could have with her mother, she begins thinking that she should realize how much she was hurt... as in, how much Lusamine hurt her, before switching to Gladion.
* GoneHorriblyWrong: Learns in Blossoming Trail that her way of expressing her anger at Gladion got him onto the Infinity Train where he could have died.
* HeelRealization: During the intermission, she comes to realize that she might've been going a bit too far by projecting on Mallow's brother, and intents on apologizing to her.
* Hypocrite:
** In Blossoming Trail, she points out to Mallow that she explained the Train in a vague, "roundabout way" when she herself refused to listen to her out of spite towards Gladion, who was a former Train passenger. Because of this, Mallow proceeds to have a RageBreakingPoint and rips into her for her behavior towards Gladion and his situation.
** She also hates Gladion for effectively abandoning her all those years, and yet she effectively abandons him as well when he goes missing, and she convinces herself that she doesn't care because he'll now know how she felt.
** Lillie lambasts how Gladion kept everything secret from their mother. Dulse points out she never said anything about her trauma to Lusamine either.
* IgnoredEpiphany: Dulse pointing out how Lillie didn't tell Lusamine about her trauma was probably meant to, at least to an extent, make her realize that Gladion isn't the sole person she's to blame. If that was the intention, then it went in one ear and out the other, since she goes back to thinking Gladion's the worst when she sees Mallow's brother.
* Irony:
** Got angry at how Gladion left her behind, but her gift of orange lilies would've ensured he could've been gone for good on the Infinity Train.
** Her name being Lillie and being associated with white brings to mind the white lily, which is a flower commonly used to show someone that you care and appreciate them. While this fits with her friends, it doesn't fit with Gladion, who she hates with a passion.
* InnocentlyInsensitive: While she's deliberately insensitive when it comes to Gladion and "bad" older brothers, she didn't mean to come off as mean when she called out Ulu for his mistake. Not that it stopped her from mocking him when his crush arrived with her fiance.
* InnocenceLost: Her learning the truth about the secrets Gladion kept pretty much ends Lillie as the innocent girl she used to be, and the rise of something much worse...
* ItsAllAboutMe: When it comes to the fiasco with Gladion, Lillie only cares about the fact that he lied and abandoned her. Gladion's reasons, outside circumstances, nothing else really matters. This bites her in the ass months later.
* JerkassHasAPoint: As exasperating as her way to show it was, Lillie had every right to call out her brother for his boneheaded decision to keep the secret.
* JerkassToOne: When it comes to most people, Lillie acts either like her normal self, or slightly more sullen than usual. Gladion, however, makes her blood boil, to the point mentioning him seriously sours her mood.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: PlayedForDrama, since it demonstrates just how far she's fallen. But after the Gladion incident, while Lillie is capable of being nice and has a heart of gold, it's buried beneath anger and spite and a desire to paint other brothers like Gladion.
* KarmaHoudiniWarranty: Whatever happens in this story, she won't learn her lesson, nor her role in Gladion's disappearance, or even be punished for it until Blossoming Trail, where she will be called out by Mallow.
* KickTheDog: Her snapping at Mallow's brother regarding the Grepa Berries was already jerkish over what was a mistake, but her telling him he had it coming when his crush arrives with a fiance squarely on this trope.
** Then, shortly after that, she tries to shut up Mallow regarding her family situation by claiming she has never felt the trauma that she has. She is quick to find out just how wrong she is.
* LackOfEmpathy: She shows a frankly callous lack of remorse regarding not only her gift towards Gladion but how it plays into him going missing.
* LaserGuidedKarma: Despite Mallow's warnings, she expressed her hatred of Gladion by sending him a bouquet of orange lilies, and spitefully convinced herself that she's the wronged party and thus wouldn't care if something bad happened to her brother. This leads to Gladion being picked up by the train, putting him at risk of dying for real. Later, when she accuses Mallow of being vague about the train, Mallow calls her out for her extremely callous treatment of Gladion's disappearance and points out that Gladion could've died and if he did, it's all on her. Even better, Mallow shows absolutely NoSympathy for her when she starts tearing up afterwards.
* LockedOutOfTheLoop: She had no idea about the Nihilego incident, and only finds out after the fact... alongside the fact that Gladion knew all along.
** She's also gonna be ignorant of the Train's existence as a ForegoneConclusion, since it only becomes public knowledge by Blossoming Trail.
* MisplacedRetribution: If her mental FreudianSlip is any indication, at least some, if not a good deal of her anger is actually directed at Lusamine. However, since her anger regarding what Gladion did is so great, she pins the blame squarely on him.
* MoralMyopia: Doesn't care that Gladion could've potentially gone missing because she believes he'll now know how she felt. This sets off Mallow's RageBreakingPoint like no other in Blossoming Trail.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: While she doesn't say anything, It's clear she's reeling when she finds out Mallow's mother died right after telling her that she had never suffered trauma equal to her own.
* NeverMyFault: Deconstructed. While Gladion made his own fair share of mistakes, she's the reason why Gladion got picked up by the train - she was angry with him for constantly abandoning her, but instead of telling him outright, she sent him a bouquet of orange lilies. Even worse, Mallow tried warning her not to do so, but she refused to listen and convinced herself afterwards that she wouldn't care if something bad happened to her brother. Cue Mallow furiously telling her that she has no right to play the victim card because if Gladion dies on the train, it'll be all on her and her "stupid bouquet".
** Dulse also puts another dent in her armor; sure Gladion is at fault for not telling her sooner, but why is she getting away with being innocent when she had all the time to tell Lusamine that she had a problem?
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: This entire story, the situation of Gladion being sent onto the Infinity Train and whatever he did that would be erased from everyone's minds is all her fault because she refused to take Mallow's warnings about the orange lilies.
* NoSympathy: Deconstructed. She started hating Gladion to the point where she convinced herself that she wouldn't care if her brother ended up in a bad place because that's how she felt when he abandoned her and held vital information from her. Mallow would later call her out on this attitude, pointing out that she's responsible for Gladion ending up on the train and his blood will be on her and her "stupid bouquet" if he died there. As additional karma, Mallow shows her absolutely no sympathy when she tears up over her words.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: Lillie is one of the nicest girls in the Alola region, so her not only gifting someone a bouquet of orange lilies, which symbolize hatred but that someone being her brother, Gladion, comes as a pretty big shock.
* PassiveAggressiveCombat: Rather than outright tell Gladion she hates him, she gifts him a bouquet of orange lilies, which symbolize hatred. This kickstarts the entire story as Gladion is pissed at seeing how Lillie doesn't appreciate the efforts he went to save her.
* ParentalIssues: She and Lusamine don't see eye-to-eye that often, though Lusamine is working to bridge the gap and Lillie cares enough about her to tell her that she's taking too much of a risk with herself (with that risk involving the very job that keeps Lusamine busy as much as it does). Dulse even points out that most of Lillie's problems could've been softened if she just told Lusamine about them.
* PoorCommunicationKills: Long story short, the only reason Lillie's problems got so exasperated is because she refused to use her mouth to fully express what's going on.
** Dulse tells Lillie that while Gladion is responsible for never revealing what he saw that night, Lillie is also at fault for never telling her mother about what happened. If Lillie said anything about her trauma, her mother would've dropped everything to figure out the cause of it, or at least spent more time with her.
** If Lillie actually tried to heed Mallow's warnings about why she shouldn't give orange lilies to her brother, but rather explain how upset she was about Gladion keeping her trauma secret for years, the story would never have happened and this probably would have killed her brother.
* PsychologicalProjection: By "The Canals of Fondue Car" her untreated anger towards Gladion causes her to paint other brothers in the same light as him, which gets her in trouble with Mallow when she does it to her brother, and tries to justify it by claiming Mallow's being hurt by it.
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: She ends up on the receiving end of one in the sequel. After she accuses Mallow of explaining the train in a vague, roundabout way (particularly it will send Gladion into a "bad place"), Mallow rips into her for not listening to her warnings and the extremely callous way she treated Gladion's disappearance - including convincing herself that she wouldn't care if something bad happened to her brother just because he constantly left her behind. What drives her to tears is hearing from Mallow how her action of presenting Gladion a bouquet of orange lilieswhich mean "hatred" in the language of flowers later led to him being taken by the Train, thus making her responsible for everything that happened to him there.
--> Mallow: You refused to listen to me, Lillie! You immediately went, 'Well now my brother knows how it feels to be in a bad place so I don't have to feel a single ounce of pity on him'! At least Gladion showed concern for you and did all he could to try and protect you even if he made very bad communication errors! But you. DID. NOT. CARE. THAT HE COULD HAVE BEEN GONE FOREVER! AND ALL BECAUSE OF A STUPID BOUQUET!
* TheResenter: Comes to deeply resent Gladion for effectively abandoning her for years, supposedly for her sake, but ignoring any input she had about the situation.
* ThereAreNoTherapists: Spent years going without any professional help dealing with her phobia. Lusamine was blamed for not doing anything about this; Lillie herself blames Gladion for not revealing what he knew sooner. Dulse points out that she is also at fault -- after all, she had the chance to tell her mother about her problems. Why didn't she take it?
* TookALevelInJerkass: At the start of the story, Lillie was angry at Gladion, yes, but she was still more or less the same girl as in canon. By the time Act 1 is near its end, not only is she starting to act more and more like a jerk, but she starts projecting Gladion onto other brothers that remind her of him, regardless of their reasons for acting like it.
* TraumaInducedAmnesia: Suffered from this after the Nihilego incident; the key to overcoming her phobia lay in learning the full truth of what happened that night...which her brother knew from the very beginning.
* UngratefulBastard: PlayedWith; Gladion sees her as one after their fight, as he helped jog her memories with Silvally. Problem is, that only came after years of him intentionally keeping her LockedOutOfTheLoop, and he would have continued doing so if not for Cosmog, or Faba's machinations. However, while Gladion did keep this stuff away from her, Lillie is also to blame for not taking more of an initiative to ask her mom that she needed help.
* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: She got her brother stuck on the Train because of her idea to gift him orange lilies. Mallow even warns her to not go through with it and now Gladion is another passenger about to fight a cult and will chew her out on this months later in Blossoming Trail that Gladion could've been dead all because of her.
* WhatTheHellHero: Is on the receiving end of this in Blossoming Trail by Mallow, who rightfully chews her out for being the one that sent Gladion on the Infinity Train in the first place and not even caring if he could've died while on it.

!!Lusamine Montblanc

Gladion and Lilie's mother and head of the Aether Foundation.
----
* AbsurdlyHighStakesGame: PlayedForLaughs. She and Lillie make a bet regarding her and Gladion: if they make up in sixth months, she and Lillie will go to a con in cosplay. If they're still embittered, Lusamine steps down from her job... while having so much money it won't make a difference.
* TheAtoner: She wishes to be a more active mother after the Motherbeast incident, and asks Lillie where her brother is, wishing to start by apologizing to him.
* TheBet: Makes one with Lillie regarding Gladion and how long she might take to forgive him. If Gladion and Lillie are still on bad terms in six months, she'll step down from her job. If they reconcile, Lillie cosplays with her at a convention.
* BunnyEarsLawyer: For all her oddities and less than serious behaviors, she is a capable leader and scientist even the Ultra Recon Squad have to get credit to.
* CosplayOtakuGirl: Apparently she does cosplay, and the kind of stuff she cosplays is stuff that Lillie finds embarrassing.
* FemalesAreMoreInnocent: Zigzagged; she's innocent because neither of her children ever told her that there was something going on with Nihilego, but she also admits that she isn't squeaky clean because she never bothered to ask what was going on either.
* FictionFiveHundred: Lusamine has so much spare money from her research that she casually risks her position as leader of Aether Foundation for a little bet, and thus her job, knowing they'll still be well off even if she never works again.
* GamerChick: An older variant as she's already over 40 years old, but Gladion notes that he once saw her and Wicke play VideoGame/Overwatch in the past.
* MirrorCharacter: To Professor Cerise from Blossoming Trail. Professor Cerise never tried to contact Chloe when she went missing (although it's under the lens that he didn't know it was possible since Goh never said anything about it). Lusamine immediately asks where Gladion is after he's been missing for a week. Professor Cerise's funds mostly come from donations, governments, and so on, and recent events cause those funds to take a hit. Lusamine, meanwhile, has so much money that even if the AbsurdlyHighStakesGame she has with Lillie ends in her loss, she won't need to worry about it. It also takes a lot of probing and trauma to get Professor Cerise to realize what a bad father he's been towards his children, and a big spectacle is made out of it. Lusamine realizes and tries to atone for these mistakes with little fanfare.
** She contrasts as both [[spoiler:lost someone they loved -- Mohn was sucked into an Ultra Wormhole, Alrick died young in a motocross accident -- but both had different ways of coping through it. Amelia entered the Train and wreaked havoc for 33 years to recreate her life with him, whereas Lusamine got into her work and did her best to raise her children properly. Lusamine is blond in a white dress, Amelia is a brunette with a black cloak/grey suit. Lusamine is in her 40s, Amelia is in her 60s.]]
** After Voyage of Wisteria, she's seen as one to Goh's parents as she at least tries to see a work-life balance for her children while Goh's parents don't have a live outside of work.
* OnlySaneWoman: Out of her family, she's the only one who can see the current situation clearly, since she's neither saddled with a newfound resentment over being lied to (Lillie) nor a delusional quest to prove she's right and everybody else wrong (Gladion).
* Otaku: She's into tokusatsu as she has serious debates over best Power Ranger teams, characters, and "teams that didn't get stuck in a pizza" and squees over having Ash and co. dress up in Power Ranger-esque suits along with being the MissionControl.
* ParentsAsPeople: Lusamine means well and wants to be there for her children, but struggles with her work-home life balance and has made many mistakes. The story's events all lead off them, even as she has tried and tries to better them. Dulse discusses this to Lillie also; while Lusamine had no idea about the trauma, it's mostly because neither Gladion nor Lillie herself said anything.
* WackyParentSeriousChild: Lillie is precocious and Gladion tries to be a knight in shining armor on a quest. Lusamine gets into television shows enough to buy their merchandise and cosplay in them and hums their theme songs.
* WhenYouComingHomeDad: Lusamine became a textbook Workaholic after , leaving her with very little time for Lillie and Gladion. However this is also played on its head in that while she is a workaholic, neither of her children decided to explain what was going on until it was far too late.
* Workaholic: She became this after , and given what she says later, she barely managed to strike a balance between this and her children.

Lusamine's husband, and Lillie and Gladion's father. He was taken by an Ultra Wormhole before the story happened.
----
* AlliterativeName: Mohn Montblanc.
* CynicismCatalyst: His disappearance brought this to the family.
* DisappearedDad: Is this to Lillie and Gladion, having been taken by an Ultra Wormhole before the story happened.
* Foil: To Chloe Cerise, as a family member whose disappearance brought a huge chance to their family. Mohn was an adult man, while Chloe's a pre-teen girl. He was taken by an Ultra Wormhole, while Chloe was snatched by the Infinity Train. Finally, Chloe's likely gonna come out of the Train okay, while Mohn's all but stated to be dead, given the DeathWorld status of Ultra Space.
* SmallRoleBigImpact: He's only mentioned in passing, but him going through an Ultra Wormhole made Lusamine become a Workaholic, which caused her to neglect Lillie and Gladion, which in turn brought the family to the state its currently in.
* UncertainDoom: He went through an Ultra Wormhole into Ultra Space, and was never heard from again. Given the kind of place that the Ultra Space is, he's most likely dead.Pokémon Journeys would later reveal that he's alive in the Galar region, albeit with some memory loss.
* WalkingSpoiler: You can't talk about him at all without spoiling what brought the Montblanc Family to its current state.

An Alolan Vulpix that belongs to Lillie.
----
* AnIcePerson: An Ice-Type Pokémon.
* Foil: Serves as one to Yamper from Blossoming Trail. They're both single Type Pokémon who're close to a pre-teen girl (Chloe for Yamper, Lillie for Snowy), but while Yamper was an original Pokémon who Chloe wasn't that close with, Snowy's an Alolan variant of a Kanto Pokémon, and their relationship with Lillie's so close as Lillie was taking care of Snowy back when they were an egg, they even have a nickname.
* InSeriesNickname: Snowy. Can you guess why?

!!Ash Ketchum

A trainer from Pallet Town staying in the Alola region with Professor Kukui, hoping to take the Grand Trial.
-----
* DraggedIntoDrag: Like in canon, wearing a Nurse Joy outfit instead of a male outfit was not his idea.
* FamousAncestor: Ash confirms during the third Fog Car chapter that he and his mom are the descendants of Sir Aaron and Queen Rin.
* IgnoranceIsBliss: Blissfully thinks that Gladion is out traveling to complete the Trials instead of being on a horrifying therapy train...oh, will he have a horrible wake-up call in a few months.
* LockedOutOfTheLoop: He'll have no idea about the Infinity Train or Gladion's adventures in this story. Shame though; that could've been very useful for when Chloe runs away months later...
* OffscreenMomentOfAwesome: The battle he and his team have against the Marshadow seen in the Rotom swap episode.
* RightForTheWrongReasons: Ash is right that Gladion will come out of it fine and that he is on a journey. He is wrong, however, in thinking Gladion is traveling Alola as a trainer like he had in other regions.
* ThrowTheDogABone: Compared to Blossoming Trail, the narrative is a lot nicer to him from the start, with the breakdown that occurred around him not being blamed on him at all and the subsequent questioning of reactions to Gladion's absence giving him a pass due to his legitimate misunderstanding of what Gladion was doing.
* TheWatson: To some extent; his ignorance of hanakotoba enables Lillie to explain the significance of the bouquet she gave Gladion. He also provides an outside perspective, serving as somebody who can hear out the extent of their familial drama as need be.

!!Mallow Omao

A friend of Lillie's who helps run the Aina's Kitchen restaurant with her father. Infinity Train: Blossoming Trail reveals that she was once a passenger on the Infinity Train along with Bounsweet/Steenee.
----
* BadassAdorable: She braved The Hidden Temple Car by herself with only Bounsweet capable of using Sweet Scent as her only means of offense. At five-years-old. In comparison, Chloe (age 10) had a donut holer, a corgi king, and an origami person to aid her when she entered that same car.
* BreakTheCutie: Losing your mother to sickness is bad enough. Getting dragged onto an otherworldly Train when all you want is to be alone with your thoughts and no idea how to escape it is even worse. Thankfully Mallow found Tuba to guide her.
* FailureIsTheOnlyOption: She will be unable to explain that Gladion is gone on a trial on the Infinity Train to everyone else. As revealed in Blossoming Trail, it turns out everyone had the wrong misconceptions anyhow. At the very least, she was able to explain this to Captain Phyco.
* FatalFlaw: Hesitance and Silence. Mallow wasn't initially sure over whether she could tell anybody about the Train, and once she came to realize how bonkers the story sounded, she decided to keep it to herself. Telling anybody at all about the Train would've definitely helped everybody not only know how to deal with it now but deal with it when Blossoming Trail eventually came around. Ash even notes in Blossoming Trail that the info would've been much more useful sooner.
* FourIsDeath: Her starting number was 44, which was how old her mother was before she died.
* GreenThumb: A Grass-type user.
* TheGreatestStoryNeverTold: Mallow never told anyone about her trip on the Infinity Train because she knew that no one was going to believe that she boarded a train at age 5 filled with stranger wonders kidnapped her until she learned to let go of the pain of her mother dying. She decides to confess to her brother and father in Chapter 2 and addresses this to Captain Phyco later on.
* HeroOfAnotherStory: She got on the Train when she was a young girl and had a few adventures. Infinity Train: Blossoming Trail would go into more detail about her journey.
* ItWasAGift: The flower in her hair came from Tuba.
* KeepingSecretsSucks: She keeps the existence of the Infinity Train to herself at the start of the story since no one would believe she vanished onto it at age 5, but her growing concern about it, Gladion's disappearance, and everybody's obliviousness regarding Gladion being missing, forces her to confide in her father and brother for some relief.
* MeaningfulName: Her surname is a shortening of Omao'mao, the Hawaiian word for green.
* PartingWordsRegret: She deeply regretted saying she hated her mother before running off, seeing as that was the last time she would ever speak to her or even see her again.
* SpannerInTheWorks: The events of the 400 Rabbits Car changes because of how she asked Captain Phyco to deliver a message
* TragicKeepsake: Has a charm bracelet with her number (44) on it hidden away in her room as a reminder of her time on the Train.
* YouHaveGOTToBeKiddingMe: She's completely flabbergasted when Lillie shows her the bouquet of orange lilies -- which means hatred in the language of flowers -- she bought for Gladion.

A classmate of Lillie's who uses Fire-types and hopes to partake in the Grand Trials.
-----
* AlliterativeName: Kiawe Kalama
* BigBrotherInstinct: Do not put his little sister Mimo in danger.
* HotBlooded: When fired up, like how he proclaims that the Ultra Beasts only know "DESTRUCTION!!!"
* ItsPersonal: Viren owning the land of Paniola ranch and damming a river was bad enough, but he made it personal when he had his Electivire attack his little sister. This makes Lillie angry as it only reminds her of how Gladion abandoned her.
* LargeHam: Kiawe, when he gets fired up, gets really fired up.
* MeaningfulName: Kalama means "torch" which reflects him being a fire-user and how his Alolan Marowak wields his bone like a fire dancer would.
* PlayingWithFire: Is a Fire-type user with a Turtonator and Alolan Marowak and his Ride Pokémon is his grandfather's Charizard.

One of Lillie's classmates who uses Water-types.
-----
* CutenessProximity: States that Ilima's Eevee is adorable and that she wants one of her own.
* DirtyKid: She's not exactly a teenager and her first guess as to why Ash is out of the house for a bit is Kukui and Burnett banging. All the while Mallow isn't sure what she means.
* LampshadeHanging: She questions why her Ride Pokémon is a Dragonair, seeing as it's not a Water-type.
* MakingASplash: She's a Water-type user.
* MeaningfulName: Her surname means "Seafarer" and her dream is to travel the ocean in a giant bubble.
* NightmareFetishist: Has a taste for dark humor, and describes the nightmarish and destructive Buzzwole as being 'sooo awesome.'
* WhatTheHellHero: Though she does concede that she, Lillie, and her classmates should have taken Mallow's worry over Gladion more seriously, Lana is quick to point out that Mallow's secret-keeping made it seem like she wanted to feel justified in lashing out at them for nothing more than innocent insensitivity with no consequence. Mallow admits that she should've done more.

A classmate of Lillie's who is good with making gadgets and tech.
-----
* MeaningfulName: His surname is 'Lighting' and he uses Electric-types.
* MindOverMatter: His Ride Pokémon as part of the Ultra Guardians is Metang, and it uses Psychic to keep Buzzwole in place.
* ShockAndAwe: He uses Electric-types like his Togedamaru.

A teacher at the school Ash and his friends go to. He also moonlights as the Masked Royal.
----
* CoolTeacher: Kukui is a kind, laidback teacher that moonlights as a wrestler.
* PaperThinDisguise: All Kukui does is just put on a wrestling mask and yet no one sees that the fighter and the teacher are the same person, except for the Ultra Recon Squad.

The Lazy Kahuna of Ula'Ula Island with a dark past. A master Dark-type Trainer.
----
* ApatheticTeacher: He's a Kahuna, meaning that in theory, he should be one of the people who teaches and helps Ash get closer to his goal of becoming the Alolan League Champion. In practice, Nanu puts more effort trying to drive Ash away than actually teach him anything.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: While it doubles as a MysteriousPast, we do know that it was so bad that it turned Nanu into the bag of apathy he is today.
* DarkIsNotEvil: His specialty is Dark Types, but he's highly apathetic at best.
* ExactWords: Nanu will use his exact words to get out of things.
* LazyBum: Despite being the Kahuna of Ula'Ula Island, Nanu's so apathetic he'd rather drive away the challengers he's supposed to face than, you know, face them.
* MysteriousPast: About the only thing we know about his past is that it led him to become his apathetic present self.

The last descendant of the Alolan Royal Family and one of the few people who can get Nanu to do things.
----
* CheerfulChild: She's always holding a smile on her face, although it's just a mask to an extent.
* CommonalityConnection: She and Ash start to form a bond over their status as descendants of royalty, as well as what that legacy entails for the two of them.
* IdenticalGrandson: A lot of Acerola's female ancestors resemble her in appearance.
* ImpoverishedPatrician: The last royal in Alola is implied to be a bit strapped for cash.
* MoralityPet: Not that Nanu's evil or anything, but he's so apathetic he'd rather get other people to do his job for him. Enter Acerola, and he gets off his butt and actually does stuff.
* ReallyRoyaltyReveal: She's the last descendant of the Alolan family, a fact she reveals to Ash while they bond over the ruins.

!Other

A group from Ultra Megalopolis who have come to investigate the Ultra Beast sightings in the Alola Region.
----
* AdaptationExpansion: Zossie gains a bigger role in that a small storyline is about her wanting to get her own Pokémon, whereas she's the only member of the USR who never gets one in the games.
* BunnyEarsLawyer: They are experts on what they do despite the fact that Zossie is a Mexican jumping bean in human form and Phyco's attempt to sound 'hip' is painful. Phyco in particular knows a lot about the Pokémon world.
* CanonImmigrant: The Ultra Recon Squad did not appear in the anime and were limited to the games and manga adaptions of them. In here, they appear at the very end of Chapter 3/after the Mother Beast arc of the anime, when the Ultra Beasts Arc is just beginning.
* CuddleBug: Upon seeing Ash's Pikachu and Rowlet, the first thing Zossie asks if she can hug them. When Ash gives her the go-ahead to hug Rowlet, she takes it, and starts screaming in glee at how happy she is.
* CutenessProximity: Zossie does this for Ash's Rowlet and later Nina's Alolan Raichu, to the point that she'll have an Alolan Raichu for a partner.
* GenderEqualEnsemble: They consist of two men (Captain Phyco, Dulse) and two women (Soliera and Zossie).
* Expy:
** Zossie was described with the personality of Blossoming Trail Chloe given that Zossie has red hair in a braid and an energetic personality. The author notes state that co-author Shady put it in Green Phantom Queen's head and she can't unsee that anymore.
** In-Universe Ash assumes she's an Expy of 'The Phantom', a coordinator from Hoenn Ash met. See below for why.
* GenkiGirl: Zossie is a bundle of energy and happiness completely enamored with everything the Alola region has to offer.
* HotBlooded: Dulse becomes this during Ilima's ping-pong match against Ikari, something that Zossie finds amusing even though Dulse states that he was aggravated for Ikari berating his Mienshao.
* InseriesNickname: To prevent Ash from knowing who they are, Phyco (in Ultra Recon uniform) calls himself Phineas and Zossie [=ZeeZee=]. Meanwhile Dulse and Soliena in their civilian forms are called Dustin and Sol, respectively.
* PaperThinDisguise: Ash doesn't realize that the grandfather and his granddaughter he met on the beach are actually two members of the Ultra Recon Squad. Albeit this is actually justified since the Recon Squad are wearing helms that cover their eyes and have blue skin whereas Phyco and Zossie's disguises have them actually look human. The Ultra Recon Squad lampshade this trope when it comes to how Ash and his friends so blind that they can't even see that Professor Kukui and Masked Royal are the same person. Soliera is even questioning if it's just better to reveal themselves instead of keeping up this charade.
* RightForTheWrongReasons: Phyco's attempt to talk human adds to his disguise not because he is good at it, but because he sounds like an old man trying to be hip and with the times.
* SavvyGuyEnergeticGirl: Dulse and Zossie whenever they're paired off together.
* StepfordSmiler: In the Desert Racetrack Car, Zossie is putting on a big smile as she knows that her trip to the Alolan Region and be under a beautiful sun won't last forever.
* SureLetsGoWithThat: When Ash assumes that Zossie has been isolated from Pokemon and fun in general for why she seems to be so unfamiliar with things, Phyco goes along with it.
* TeamMom: Soliera acts likes this to the group, particularly to Dulse.
* WalkingSpoiler: The fact they're even in this story this early is a massive spoiler in and of itself.

An Alolan Raichu that Zossie captures for her own.
-----
* MeaningfulName: Alolan Raichus evolve from Alolan Pikachus due to eating lots of pancakes.
