Context Characters / ChainChronicleArchers

Go To

One of the two ranged classes in the game, the Archer class represents all the bow-using Arcana of Yggdra. Compared to Wizards, Archers focus on debuffs with their Specials, and their specials are either single-target, or hit a random number of targets.

Book 2 adds the Gunner subclass, who instead of bows use guns instead. Compared to Archers, Gunners have a higher number of attacks per turn, but in return they have a longer cooldown in between attacks.

Go [[Characters/ChainChronicle here]] to go back to the main character index of ''Chain Chronicle''.
----
!Tropes common to Archers and Gunners:
* LongRangeFighter: As expected of this type of class, Archers and Gunners are usually devastating to enemy waves as long as they keep their distance. Once a melee opponent closes in though, unless high-leveled they usually fold like wet cardboard.
* StatusEffects: The Archer's hat, with many specials (or in some cases ''regular attacks'') dealing debuffs like Poison, Slow, Blind, or Paralyze.

-->Voiced By: Creator/MaayaUchida (game), Creator/RinaSato (OVA), Creator/AsamiImai (movies)

A former member of the Ranger's Guild, Michidia enlisted with the Volunteer Army because she figured it was the quickest way to achieve peace, at least in the Holy Kingdom anyway. Mostly calm and even-tempered, very few things get to her -- unless your name happens to be Kain, that is.
----
* BackInTheSaddle: Gets stuck with an admin position after Book 1, but rejoins the group just in time for Book 2.
* BelligerentSexualTension: Has this dynamic with Kain.
* CantCatchUp: Much like Kain, her first 1-star Arcana quest has Michidia realizing that she's reaching the limits of her training, and that she might not be as helpful to the party in more difficult fights.
** She spends some time during her first 4-Arcana quest getting quietly frustrated at the fact that she couldn't take down monsters in one shot anymore.
* CleavageWindow: Gains one for her 4-star Arcana.
* DeskJockey: Implied to have become this in the aftermath of Book 1, where she's been apparently become part of the Volunteer Army's adminstration. Naturally she ditches this job when she learns that the Hero and her friends are on another adventure.
* FashionableAsymmetry: Michidia's top has a long sleeve on the left side, but is sleeveless on the right.
* ForestRanger: Trained as one. Even as part of the Volunteers, she's still a decent enough tracker to follow her mentor all the way to the Mystic Mountains in her first 4-Arcana quest.
* FragileSpeedster: In-story, Michidia's fighting style focuses on keeping mobile and dodging. As her Arcana quest reveals though, she doesn't have the energy to maintain it over an extended battle, and her legs end up buckling under her due to exhaustion.
* HiddenDepths: Apparently Michidia's got a higher-than-normal resistance to any attack that messes with a person's sense of balance. She says she's never been seasick for example.
* StarterEquipment: The first Archer-class the player will gain.
* TrueCompanions: Her last 1-star Arcana quest focuses on this, specifically how she's known the (initial) party for so long that she can cover for their shortcomings, and they for hers.
* TookALevelInBadass: Her 4-star Arcana reflects this, as she gains a buff to her HP, Attack, and speed while in combat, and to top all of this off her attacks now deal a ''lot'' more damage, plus now has a chance to slow down an enemy per hit.
* {{Tsundere}}: For Kain, but don't let her catch you saying so.
* UrbanWarfare: Her final skill focuses on this, giving her a buff to her Attack and movement speed when the battle is in a town or city area, as well as a minor resistance to any damage taken.

!!Faceless
[[quoteright:155:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/faceless.jpg]]
A mute Assassin's Guild member dressed like a clown. As no one have seen Faceless' true face, not much was known about this character. And we're not kidding about the 'mute' part; while the usual unit introduction has them saying a sentence or two, Faceless doesn't even say anything.

Received an upgrade in the JP server that is currently unreleased in Global.
----
* AutomaticCrossbows: Wields one in the character art. The default weapon is still a traditional bow, and there are currently no bow gun weapons.
* BerserkButton: ''Do not'' sneak up behind Faceless, even if you meant no harm.
* CoolMask: Along with the attire, it makes Faceless looks like a harlequin-style assassin. You can see the face behind it at the end of [[spoiler: her]] final character quest.
* CreepyDoll: Carries one in the character art. At least it ''looks'' like a doll...
* CrushBlush: Pirika notes that Faceless looks nervous whenever the Hero is nearby in the final character quest. Despite Faceless ''wearing a mask that conceals the whole face''. This is one of the clues about [[spoiler: Faceless' identity]]. Further provoked reaction courtesy of Pirika and [[ThanksForTheMammary a touch]] by the Hero makes it more obvious that [[spoiler: Faceless is a girl.]]
* CuteMute: Faceless doesn't talk or show any expressions because of the mask, but everyone can understand Faceless just fine.
* RedAndBlackAndEvilAllOver: Averted! Faceless is one of the nicer members of the Assassin's Guild. Faceless was never introduced in a very shady way, unlike some Assassin's Guild members.
* SamusIsAGirl: Pay attention to the entries here. Have we used gender pronouns to refer to Faceless? Well, Faceless is [[spoiler: a girl]], made more obvious once you use Faceless' skill, or saw [[spoiler: her V2 upgrade art]].
* TheSpook: Apparently, ''no one'' remembered when exactly Faceless joined the party. And the person won't tell either. Better yet, ''no one'' remembered who, exactly, came up with the name 'Faceless'.
* VillainousHarlequin: Faceless is definitely ''not'' a villain, but Faceless certainly looks like one if you don't know any better. It doesn't help that this person is a member of the Assassin's Guild, although Faceless doesn't seem to be the shadier types like Angelica or Rutherford.
* VisibleSilence: How Faceless communicates, though the Hero, Phoena, and Pirika can still understand what Faceless is saying with minimal problem.

[[quoteright:155:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/linia.jpg]]

A peace-loving forest sprite from the Golden Fruit tribe of the Soul Island. Rather than fighting, she prefers to attend the local forest and its wildlife.
----
%%* CurtainsMatchTheWindow
* FriendToAllLivingThings: She might be wary of humans (like most inhabitants of Soul Island), but she's very kind to every other living being. She was so kind that, at the end of her first quest, a bird stays with her even after other animals grew afraid of her when they saw Linia fight. Sure, she fought to defend ''their'' home, [[TearJerker but still...]]
* MartialPacifist: Described as skilled in the lore, yet also kind. Perhaps ''too'' kind; it's implied that when you first met her, she doesn't even carry a weapon because she's ''afraid of scaring the animals'', and spend most of her first quest evacuating the animals from a monster attack. When push comes to shove however, she had Michidia lend her a spare bow and some arrows as she proves her willpower to fight and defend the local wildlife.
* TheMedic: Her skill and abilities are very similar to Clerics. While she has minimal special offensive capabilities, her active skill gives all allies in the field gradual healing, and her second ability (called 'Kindness' even, and it's normally owned by Clerics) heals the party member with the lowest HP at the start of a turn. Used well, and she could be more useful than some 3-star or 4-star Clerics at healing since her normal attacks are still effective.
* TookALevelInBadass: She receives a 5-star form in the Japanese Version.
%%* MysticalWhiteHair
* NiceGuy: Very polite and loving, especially to animals and nature. Even when asking the Hero and Co. to leave her forest, she does so ''very'' politely, never raising her voice or even use harsh words, even slightly. This even manifest as an ability; see TheMedic above.
* SoapBoxSadie: Perhaps unintentional, but her second character quest can make her be interpreted this way. The main aesop of her quest is about animal preservation, and her lines won't make you forget about it.

[[quoteright:200:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chainchronicle_farlinb.png]]
[[caption-width-right:200:The Weaver of Time.]]

A wandering singer with a following that goes beyond the Lake of Sand, Farlin joins the Volunteer Army at Queen Ashrina's behest, as she is looking for inspiration for a new paean she's writing.
----
* DamageReduction: What Farlin's special temporarily grants, where the damage reduced is equal to a percentage of the target's Attack Power. Her final ability also gives a similar, yet slightly more powerful effect, and what's more, it ''stacks'' with her special.
* GoBackToTheSource: Farlin's final quest has her revisit the same ruins that the Volunteer Army first rescued her from to take a look at the mural she had been initially studying before monsters attacked her. [[spoiler:Incidentally, the mural hints toward a possible case of Yggdra having an EternalHero, whose first incarnation was a winged warrior that came from another world.]]
* StatusBuff: Farlin's final ability boosts the effects of her allies' specials. She also reduces all damage taken by a percentage of the target's Attack power.
* {{Stripperiffic}}: Par for course for ladies from the Lake of Sand though.
* WanderingMinstrel: What Farlin is, though her design is better suited for a Dancer however.

!!Lucrezia

[[quoteright:200:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chainchronicle_lucreziab.png]]
[[caption-width-right:200:The Vibrant Demon.]]

An ex-member of the Assassin's Guild, Lucrezia is known more these days for her prowess at the bow, and the very VERY colorful outfit she's wearing. She likes the colors a lot, thank you very much.
----
* BloodKnight: Lucrezia's gets a ''wee'' bit more excited than she should during battles.
* HiddenDepths: As Pirika accidentally finds out, Lucrezia makes all her clothes. Her final quest has her try to dodge around any questions regarding her sewing skills.
* HighlyVisibleNinja: Discussed during her first quest, as Pirika wonders at how Lucrezia still managed to make a living at killing people when her outfit makes her stand out like a sore thumb. Lucrecia's answer? [[BadassBoast It doesn't matter if the mark sees her or not, they're dead regardless]].
* HomingProjectile: Apparently once Lucrezia's taken aim on a target, ''nothing'' will stop the arrow from hitting it, as it will curve and weave around obstacles to chase it. Only in-story though.
--> '''Lucrezia:''' Ha ha, ha ha ha... That's it. Just try to escape me.
* ManaDrain: Her second ability gives a slight chance of getting a point of Mana after a kill.
* PutTheLaughterInSlaughter: Very fond of this.
* ReformedCriminal: You'd THINK this would be the case, but nope! Lucrezia flatly admits that when the war's over she's going to go back to her usual habits, which include doing HeKnowsTooMuch on the poor fools who spot her during her assassination jobs.
* StatusBuff: Thanks to her first ability, Lucrezia gains a bonus to her Attack as long as her HP is at full.

!!Nikolas
[[quoteright:202:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nikolas.jpg]]
A [[InsufferableGenius genius]] alchemist hailing from a faraway continent. He's very passionate about what he does, but acts condescending to everyone who did not acknowledge his talent...and sometimes even to people who ''does''.

A Global exclusive arcana only available with Fortune Rings.
----
* DistractedByTheSexy: On the giving end. Both Phoena and Pirika comments that he looks ripped for an intellectual, and Phoena was briefly attracted to him, remarking that men of intellect who gave a good fight has certain kind of attractiveness.
* GadgeteerGenius: In his first quest, he made a golem that can do many task, from deforestation to undersea exploration, by calling the aid of other creatures along with the golem's own power. Too bad that early activation by some professors botched his experiment.
--> (after being furious about the early activation of his golem) Genius takes perfection. Perfection takes time!
* GeniusBruiser: He's noted to be ripped for an alchemist, and one of the professors remarked that he's one of the brightest alchemist the academy ever had. In gameplay, he proves himself to be a great support fighter with great stats for a Fortune Ring character along with the ability to inflict slow and poison. With the X-0216 Handgun equipped, he can deal ''three'' status ailments with his normal shots.
* HiddenDepths: He came from a family of fashion designers, and they forced him to learn how to interact with nobles as well as forcing him to exercise to achieve a perfect physique, both of which he hated doing. Pirika comments that this explain his non-intellectual looks, especially his hair.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Despite not liking his family, he still sends them cash and he noted that they're on good terms. Also, despite his condescending attitude, he immediately steps up to defend a merchant harassed by thugs. Finally, he genuinely wanted to improve the quality of life on Yggdra through science, though he's really stuck-up about it.
** In the third quest, when it seems he's about to give some payback to the two professors that hired assassins to kill him, he marched to their lab, guns blazing...and submitted his thesis for the proper usage of his golem. Sure, he did that after giving [[SugarWiki/FunnyMoments a series of]] [[TheReasonYouSuckSpeech hilarious insults]] to the two professors that's enough to make both of them cry, but one of them later notes that, despite his personality, he's still capable of being nice.
* MadScientist: Oh willy, is he ever. Pirika called him a mini-Melchior, [[InsultBackfire a statement that Nikolas really appreciates]], since he said that everyone in his field admires Melchior. Funnily enough, Nikolas has similar color schemes to Melchior.
* NoSocialSkills: He looks down on everyone, and he's really loud about it. In his second quest, it was noted that he didn't get out of his room for ''two weeks'' doing science. Pirika, Phoena, and the Hero has to drag him out of his room into the tavern so that he can eat something. Then he has the balls to loudly call the tavern he's resting in as a hovel ''within earshot of other patrons''.
* PlotHole: There are several:
** The fact that he uses guns, when guns aren't even that widespread in Yggdra yet. One of the three sages made a functional prototype at the start of Book 2, but that's it. He was mentioned for being from a faraway land, but ''then'', it was established that [[spoiler:Yggdra is a ClosedCircle of a continent; no one enters, no one leaves.]]
** What the hell is an engineer doing, enrolling in the ''Magic'' Academy? FridgeBrilliance ensues once you realize that AlchemyIsMagic in this universe and he specialize in alchemy, though his specialization was only barely mentioned.
* StatusEffects: His first ability allows his regular attacks to inflict slow or poison.
* UnderestimatingBadassery: So, you've been hired to assassinate someone who not only can made a powerful golem capable of achieving many tasks (including fighting), and that person can also really slow you down with his marksmanship. This person also spent two weeks in his room doing science, and also noted to have a ripped body. What will you do? Why, call him a nerd and then [[ScrewThisImOuttaHere botch your job]] after he kicks your ass to the next Thanksgiving, of course!

A natural-born assassin, raised by the guild from a young age. This has taught her to only rarely show emotion, but focus on faithfulness to her teachings. Now that she’s lost her original master, she takes on various jobs while searching for another.
----
%%* BodyguardCrush: With hero as her "Master" it was inevitable.
* DefeatMeansFriendship: She is fought in her first quest, she joins after the Hero says he'll be her master.
* DefrostingIceQueen: The whole point of her quest is her learning emotions. This culminates in her second ability, which heals a party member with the lowest health at the start of a wave by quite a large amount.
%%* EmotionlessGirl: She gets better with each quest.
* GameplayAndStorySegregation: Nothing's stopping you from using her in her first quest where she's against you.
* HeelFaceTurn: She first fights you in her quest, but joins your side afterwards.
* InnocentFlowerGirl: She becomes similar to one during her final quest.
* PunchClockVillain: In her first quest, she fights you to earn money to live.
* ReiAyanamiExpy: Let's see... DarkAndTroubledPast? Check. Pale skin and short, white hair? Check. Emotionless yet became more expressive as time goes on? ''Very'' check.

A member of the Assassin's Guild, Penelope is usually seen however performing as part of the trapeze act of the Youbee circus. She doesn't talk much.
----
* FacialMarkings: Two diamonds on her right cheek.
* GradualRegeneration: Granted by her first ability.
* StatusBuff:
** Penelope's special grants a temporary boost to both Attack power, and attack speed.
** Another thing granted by her first ability, where she gains a bonus to her Attack power at full HP.
** Her second ability also increases her weapon's critical hit rate, while any attack that defeats an enemy will penetrate through to another target in the same line.
* TranslatorBuddy: She tends to speak for Faceless when they're together.
* VisibleSilence: All the time, though unlike Faceless, Penelope can still talk normally when she wants too. In fact, when confronted by Faceless for stalking Rhuana, Penelope gets increasing flustered by Faceless' silence.
** Eventually played for laughs, when Faceless (who doesn't talk), Roxanna (who was born mute), and Penelope (who talks rarely) sit together, and people interpret it as ''a heart-moving performance''.
