!!Witch Cult
----
[[folder:Shared Tropes]]
Tropes which commonly apply to the Archbishops of Sin and associated members.
----
* AmbiguousSituation: Why Petelgeuse Romani-Conti founded them and who his partner was have yet to be reveal.
* ApocalypseCult: Seek to release the Witch of Envy, who swallowed the other Witches and half the world before she was sealed. What exactly releasing her would mean is not clear, but it is guaranteed to cause more than enough of death and destruction - not that most cultists care for that.
* BadPowersBadPeople: {{Played with}} - at first sight, it sure ''seems'' like there's no way the Archbishops' powers could be used for benevolent purposes. But it is later revealed that the Authorities of Sin take the shape of their powers depending on what their wielders desire, without their control. In other words, they're bad powers ''because'' they're held by bad people.
** [[spoiler:Subverted with Petelgeuse, who was, at first, a kind and caring man, despite being part of the Cult. But then he absorbed the Sloth Factor in order to have a chance against Pandora and Regulus, even though he knew that he was incompatible. This fact, plus that he murdered his lover Fortuna by accident, eventually drove him insane.]]
* BigBadEnsemble: Regulus, Capella, Sirius and the Gluttonies collectively fulfill the role of ArcVillain for the fifth arc. The heroes initially assume they are dealing with a BigBadDuumvirate, but it turns out each Archbishop has their own goals and they barely tolerate each other. They have some sort of non-aggression pact to ensure nobody gets in the way of the others, but that's the extent they are willing to work with each other.
* CoDragons: The Archbishops seem to play this role for [[spoiler:Pandora, the enigmatic eighth Witch of Sin and the Cult's MysteriousBenefactor]].
* FacelessGoons: The vast majority of the lower-ranked followers are this. They wear uniform dark robes with pointed hoods, covering their faces completely, with most possessing enhanced speed and some kind of shadow-blending spell, wielding daggers and fireballs as their primary weapons. To add emphasis, the vast majority of the lower-ranked mooks appear to be [[WeHaveReserves highly expendable]].
* HateSink: Per WordOfGod, the Witch's Cult and its Archbishops were specifically designed to be the biggest, most irredeemable and loathsome scumbags in the setting, with most having flimsy justifications at best for their actions and next to no redeeming qualities.
* HitAndRunTactics: The Cult's preferred modus operandi. When preparing to assault a target, the Cultists will split into smaller, mobile units and encircle their operating area, cutting off any possibility of warning, escape or reinforcement. Their Gospels providing them with significant amount of foresight and additional information, the Cultists will usually bide their time and strike only when their targets have dropped their guard and are at their weakest. And, should they be repelled by their foe, their commanders seem to have no qualms about sacrificing a few dozen pawns for a chance to slink back into the shadows.
* {{Jerkass}}: Being {{Hate Sink}}s, all of the members are loathsome and unpleasant people who work solely for their personal benefit and show no mercy for anyone, being entirely devoted to the Witch of Envy, Satella. This understandably earns them Subaru's ire.
* KillOnSight: Most of the population of the world loathes and hates the Witch Cult and would not hesitate to kill any of their members preemptively. Ironically, this has largely aided the Cult in maintaining a degree of secrecy and ambiguity around itself, as very few members could be succesfully captured. Even then, most members would rather commit to a SuicideAttack than risk being captured, so it might not make much of a difference. This mentality towards them is bad news for Subaru, as his Return by Death ability gives him the witch's scent that a select few characters can catch, which makes them suspect that he's a member of the cult. And they usually respond to the slightest suspicious behavior as adequate grounds to murder him.
* MalevolentMaskedMen: Most lower ranked members wear uniform dark robes topped with a pointed, triangular hood, with reddish cutouts for the eyes and an eerie symbol of a large, crimson eye on their forehead. As for the malevolent part, well, being composed of lunatics, sociopaths and all the worst kinds of social outcasts ought to make that part a no-brainer.
* NonIndicativeName: As Arc 5 makes evident, despite their name, hardly any of them actually hold any love for the Witch of Envy. They can be more correctly called a loose association of monsters that just happen to gather under the name out of convenience.
* OpportunisticBastard: Most members, Archbishops included, join out of personal interest rather than any kind of genuine "faith" in the Witch of Envy. Namely, most become followers after receiving a Gospel, a magic tome capable of "guiding its owner towards their desired future" through vague instructions. Thus, most members only cooperate if and when their Gospels tell them to. [[UnwittingPawn It is quite possible, however, that the Gospels are actually being affected to manipulate their owners towards a completely different goal]]...
* ReligionOfEvil: {{Played with}} - their initial description and the behaviour of Petelgeuse's faction of the Cult largely play the trope straight, worshipping Satella and seeking to free her from her prison, consequences be damned. What exactly they are hoping to gain from this is unclear, but at least Petelgeuse personally seems to believe he will be "rewarded" for freeing his beloved Witch. However, as more factions of the Cult are showcased, it becomes clear that Petelgeuse's zealots are more of an exception than the rule. In general, the other Archbishops and their subordinates seem to mostly enjoy the benefits that possesing Authorities and Gospels brings them, and only carry out the orders appearing in the Gospels because they believe them to be guides towards personal success. None of the others care for Satella, some even actively despise her, and only see their membership as a convenient means to their own ends. [[spoiler:And there are hints that the Cult may not have been evil in the beginning...]]
* {{Seers}}: All of the members possess Gospels which, to some limited extent, can predict the future. The extent to which they follow their writings varies, but in any case this makes them more dangerous, as it can make them prone towards launching suicidally confident attacks or give them an edge over their unsuspecting targets, not to mention serving as the primary means of recognition, organisation and cooperation. However, Roswaal calls the Gospels "defective", [[spoiler:at least compared to his own version,]] which might mean that the Gospels do not, in fact, predict the future very accurately or not at all, but might instead be serving as something else entirely.
* StandardEvilOrganizationSquad: The Archbishops, for the most part. Rather than act as commanders or, more fittingly, priests, the Archbishops mainly take the role of elite enforcers, with only a few choosing to directly command over their subordinates. Then again, even the weakest Archbishop is a powerhouse to not be treated lightly, and the strongest have taken on military fortresses single-handed and come out of the fight unscathed. That said, while the Archbishops can loosely cooperate if their Gospels compel them to, to say they don't like each other would be quite the understatement, and all of them prefer to work alone.
* SuicideAttack: Are prone to launching these, though how much they actually realise what they are doing is suicidal is up for debate, seeing as their Gospels are supposed to lead them to their desired future...
* TokenGoodTeammate: [[spoiler:Interestingly, Petelgeuse and his faction seem to have been this before he went mad. They seem to have actively opposed Regulus and his extremist faction when he attacked the Elves of Elior Forrest.]]
* VillainsNeverLie: Horrible and twisted as they are, the Archbishops of Sin always keep any promises they make.
-->'''[[WordOfGod Tappei]]:''' Oh, they'll keep promises. When they meet someone, they'll greet them and give their names. That's always been the way of filth. They'll keep a promise, and if they don't feel like keeping it, they wouldn't make it in the first place. They just do what they've done. If what they want to do is a sneaky action, they'll be sneaky, and if what they want to do can only be done by being open, they'll be open. They're scum.
* WeHaveReserves: The general mindset of most Archbishops and other higher-ranked members. The precise numbers of active Witch Cultists are uncertain, but given they allegedly maintain a presence all over the world, and how liberally their commanders spend the lives of lower-ranked followers, there's bound to be quite a few.
* WithGreatPowerComesGreatInsanity: The Authorities of the Archbishops are developed after they take in Witch Factors. If the person is incompatible with the Witch Factor in question, their personality is likely to be altered and changed. However, most of the Archbishops are already fairly horrible people before inheriting their power and, by conventional standards, are already insane and unhinged.
* WouldHurtAChild: None of them would hesitate in killing children, and many indeed do, in several of Subaru's loops.

The Archbishop of Sloth. He's a deeply unstable man who will happily slaughter countless innocents if he believes it's in service to Satella.
----
* AddedAlliterativeAppeal: He loves to play with words in his rants, though it varies depending on the situation. Sometimes he uses common alliteration and other times he repeats a particular subject and uses various adjectives of similar meaning to describe it.
* AffablyEvil: He is always overly polite and respectful to Subaru until finding out the boy's real intent and trying to use Unseen Hand to rip him apart. Made all the more horrifying in that [[WordOfGod Tappei Nagatsuki]] stated that he's the '''nicest''' of all the archbishops. Let that sink in for a moment...
* ArchEnemy: To Subaru. To say the boy hates him is an understatement. After all the hell Petelgeuse puts Subaru through, including killing Rem, Emilia, and everyone else over and over, there is nothing Subaru wants to do but end Petelgeuse's existence. The mere mention of the man is enough to drive Subaru into a burning rage.
* ArcVillain: Of the third arc of the series.
* AxCrazy: He is so insane that he makes Elsa look like a kitty. His way of talking doesn't help this at all.
* BadBoss: Upon hearing that his minions have failed to kill Rem, he grabs one of them and wildly beats them to a pulp. When Rem does show up, he is completely unfazed by his men being slaughtered and even giggles with joy at the sight.
* BadPowersGoodPeople: [[spoiler:He had been given the Authority of Sloth, but refused to take it, knowing full well that he was incompatible. But he was forced to take it in order to protect Fortuna and Emilia from Pandora and Regulus. For a while, he managed to use his new powers to protect his loved ones, but, when he accidentally killed Fortuna due to Pandora's illusions, it triggered his downfall to insanity.]]
* BeautyEqualsGoodness: When he was still handsome, he was nothing short of a pleasant and kind man back then.
* BigBadEnsemble: During the third arc along with the White Whale.
* CharacterCatchphrase:
-->"You are truly... slothful."\
"My brain trembles!"
* CharacterTics: Violently biting his own fingers when frustrated.
* ChewingTheScenery: Very unusual for Creator/YoshitsuguMatsuoka, who plays Petelgeuse by [[EvilIsHammy hamming it up sky high]] and belting all of his lines to maximum dramatic effect.
* ClippedWingAngel: [[spoiler:After being bested by Subaru and suffering a slippage of whatever sanity was left, his lifeless husk of a body turns into a big, spider-like ''thing'' as fast as a cart. However, Subaru manages for the first time to single-handedly kill him in this form, causing his final death.]]
* DarkIsEvil: Dresses in the dark cultist robes, has sickly green hair and pale skin with crazed eyes.
* DefiantToTheEnd: [[spoiler:Even while being killed by Puck, he keeps talking back to the spirit.]]
* {{Determinator}}: In his final moments with his battered and broken body, with no Fingers left to switch to, Petelgeuse still pursues Subaru using his Unseen Hand to propel him like a spider. Subaru gets irritated with how persistent the Sin Archbishop is.
* DiscOneFinalBoss: He is the final antagonist of the first anime season and the late volumes of the light novels, but it is clear that even when he was defeated, the stuff with the Witch Cult has just started.
* EvilFormerFriend: [[spoiler:Long ago, he was a close father figure to Emilia until he went insane as a result of absorbing the Authority of Sloth and killed her aunt Fortuna.]]
* EvilIsHammy: To put it simply, Petelgeuse's over-the-top hamminess makes both Roswaal and Subaru look tame in comparison.
* EvilLaugh: He gives off a mad cackle at times.
* EvilMakesYouUgly: In contrast to his creepy face in the present, he was a very attractive man before he went insane.
* EvilSoundsDeep: Creator/YoshitsuguMatsuoka will often put on a deeper voice for Petelgeuse compared to his usual characters. Though he reverts back to the usual pitch whenever he's yelling and screaming.
* {{Expy}}: His similarities to ''Literature/FateZero'''s Caster have been noticed, from his insane ax crazy behavior, to his usage of Dark magic that take the form of shadowy hands, to having an intense obsession with a female character from the past (Caster with Jeanne D'Arc and Petelgeuse with Satella).
* FallenHero: [[spoiler:Until around 100 years ago, Geuse was a kindhearted man who was ready to sacrifice himself to protect Emilia and Fortuna. During his fight against Regulus and Pandora, he needed to take the Authority of Sloth which started to make him insane and lost himself completely when he killed Fortuna by mistake.]]
* FemmeFatalons: Male example; he has long, sharp red nails.
* FrontlineGeneral: He is always at the forefront of battle, [[spoiler:because it doesn't matter if his host body is killed, so long as one of his followers or someone with the witch's scent is in the same area, he will survive through body possession.]]
* GlassCannon: He is capable of killing anyone no matter how tough their body is, so long as his Unseen Hands can grab them. However, his body [[spoiler:and the bodies of the followers he can possess]] are otherwise normal and can be easily killed, provided his opponent can avoid being killed long enough to get into range.
* GodzillaThreshold: [[spoiler:Knowing full well that he stood no chance against both Regulus and Pandora, but still determined to keep them away from Fortuna and Emilia, Petelgeuse absorbed the Authority of Sloth. He knew that he was incompatible and that the effects of him doing so would be anything but good, but he still did so anyway. It is played tragically as, despite his sacrifice, he ended up killing Fortuna and the trauma from this, alongside the Authority's dark nature, eventually turned him into a raging lunatic that would spend the next one hundred years slaughtering countless towns.]]
* InSeriesNickname: Geuse.
* InvisibleToNormals: His Unseen Hand ability, which allows him to spawn deadly appendages that are invisible to most people.
* {{Irony}}: Because of the nature of his powers, Petelguese has the potential to become a nearly-unstoppable assassin. However, his hammy mannerisms make it obvious where he is and [[spoiler:who he is possessing]] which will make his opponents wary of his presence.
* IWasQuiteALooker: His face is so disturbing in the present that it's hard to believe he was a {{Bishonen}} in the past as [[http://i.imgur.com/JHjLBvc.jpg Geuse]].
* KnightOfCerebus: His presence in the story takes the story from a somewhat dark series to a truly dark and depressing tale on par with ''Manga/{{Berserk}}''.
* LaughablyEvil: If it wasn't for the sheer eeriness of the setting and Petelgeuse's monstrous actions, he could fit right into a comedy act.
* LeanAndMean: Is skinny as a rake and a psychotic leader of a cult that slaughters villages.
* LecherousLicking: Licks Subaru's ''eye'' at one point, showing just how disturbing and unhinged he can be.
* LivingEmotionalCrutch: [[spoiler:Geuse was so important to Fortuna that she refused to escape with Emilia and returned to help him in his fight against Regulus and Pandora, fully knowing it would result in her death, all because she couldn't bear the thought of never seeing him again.]]
* LoveFreak: He can't go more than a few words without mentioning love. And when [[spoiler:he gets Subaru's body]], he goes on a non-stop rant about the different types of love. May be a case of LoveMakesYouCrazy.
* MadnessMantra: Has a habit of repeating the same words in the same sentence, be it about slothfulness, love... anything, really.
* MotorMouth: He frequently launches into lengthy, hysterical raves, often commenting on nonsensical observations and musings.
* MurderByMistake: [[spoiler:While he was fighting Pandora, she used illusions so Petelgeuse would see Emilia's aunt Fortuna as his enemy. Petelgeuse then killed Fortuna with his Unseen Hands thinking she was Pandora. Realizing who he had really killed sealed his descent into madness.]]
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: [[spoiler:He had this reaction after he killed his lover Fortuna after Pandora tricked him with illusions.]]
* MyNaymeIs: He's the only Archbishop with a slight variation in the name of his star ('''P'''etelgeuse instead of '''B'''etelgeuse).
* NightmareFace: His default expression, with a SlasherSmile included.
* NightmareHands: Betelgeuse has this as a superpower; his "Unseen Hands" can also turn invisible, but are generally represented as black and demonic.
* NoIndoorVoice: As expected of an AxCrazy [[EvilIsHammy hammy]] psychopath, he screams many of his dialogue at the top of his voice.
* NotQuiteFlight: He can use Unseen Hand to move across the sky. Those who can't see his hands will only see a weird man flying, all balled up.
* ParasiticImmortality: [[spoiler:He has an ability that lets him possess the bodies of compatible people in the vicinity every time his current body is killed. Unfortunately, this includes Subaru.]]
* ParentalSubstitute: [[spoiler:Turns out he was a kind father figure to Emilia before he went insane.]]
* PowerStereotypeFlip: His Authority of Sloth manifests as invisible hands that allow him to tear people apart without moving his body [[spoiler:and his body possession power causes people with the same taint to lose control of their bodies, allowing him to take over.]] Completely opposite to the sin he represents, Petelgeuse is the definition of EvilIsHammy. [[spoiler:This is actually relevant as Petelgeuse was driven insane because of his incompatibility with the Authority of Sloth.]]
* PowerLimiter: Petelgeuse's Fingers. With each death, he gains access to more hands and power.
* PracticallyJoker: He's an AxCrazy LaughablyEvil villain with [[EvilIsHammy a hammy, nihilistic personality]] and managed to drive the main character insane. Add in the pale skin and green hair and Petelgeuse is practically ''ComicBook/TheJoker'' of ''Isekai'' anime.
* PreInsanityReveal: [[spoiler:Echidna's trials reveal in the past Petelgeuse was a well-adjusted father figure to Emilia that was in love with her aunt Fortuna. However, absorbing the Authority of Sloth negatively affected his sanity as well the death of Fortuna by his hands finally drove him insane.]]
* PuzzleBoss: He isn't as powerful or intelligent as the other Archbishops of Sin, but his powers are subtle and confusing to the uninitiated. He will more likely kill his opponents before they figure them out.
* ReallySevenHundredYearsOld: [[spoiler:Beatrice knew him over 400 years ago and Geuse claimed that he lived for so long that his age made an adult elf like Fortuna seem like a child.]]
* SanitySlippage: In his final moments he becomes even more unhinged, reduced to blubbering his MadnessMantra.
* SayMyName: Says this to Subaru right before he [[spoiler:gets killed by him.]]
* SecondaryColorNemesis: His skin and hair are green, while he is fond of dressing in purple.
* SelfHarm: To demonstrate how off-hinged he is, he has a habit of violently biting his own fingers when agitated or excited.
* SelfHarmInducedSuperpower: He always injures his fingers in some manner, such as by biting them, breaking them, or ripping off the nails, right before he activates his Unseen Hand, suggesting that he needs to harm his fingers, or just himself in general, for the power to activate.
* ShapedLikeItself: His idea of repaying love is to repay it with love.
-->"Love! We must repay love with love!"
* SignatureMove: His Unseen Hand ability, which is normally invisible to the naked eye. True to his sloth title, Petelgeuse barely needs to move to use this on a target.
* SlasherSmile: He is always seen smiling creepily, with a crazed look in his eyes.
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: The official name for Betelgeuse is spelled with a P, while the pronunciation and namesake are Betelgeuse. As a result, most, if not all dubs refers to him as Betelgeuse. [[spoiler:It might be intentionally done]].
* SpockSpeak: His hamminess doesn't make him any less well-spoken.
* StellarName: Petelgeuse refers to the Betelgeuse star, aka Alpha Orionis, the second-brightest in the constellation of Orion.
* StevenUlyssesPerhero: Betelgeuse means "Orion's hand" in Arabic, possibly referring to Petelgeuse's authority.
* TokenGoodTeammate: Downplayed. Petelgeuse is explicitly stated by WordOfGod to be the nicest of all the Archbishops. [[spoiler:However, considering he did go mad a hundred years ago, its likely he was a straight example before then.]]
* VerbalTic: Expect him to bombastically drop "DESU!" from time to time.
* VillainousBreakdown: [[spoiler:He falls into even greater insanity and panic when Subaru and his allies gain the upper hand, leading up to his ultimate defeat.]]
* WithGreatPowerComesGreatInsanity: [[spoiler:Before Petelgeuse received the Authority of Sloth, he used to be a kindly father figure to Emilia as well as the one who protected her and her aunt.]]
* WeUsedToBeFriends: [[spoiler:A hundred years ago, Emilia once saw him as a clear father figure, but in the present time, Petelguese's level of insanity was such that he no longer remembered of her, and took joy in seeing her dead in Subaru's arms. He and Beatrice were also close friends once, and Beatrice mourned him after finding out both at what he had become and that he had died.]]
* YourAnswerToEverything: [[LoveFreak Love]], ''especially'' when he is [[spoiler:possessing Subaru.]]
* YourApprovalFillsMeWithShame: He's on the giving end towards Subaru. While everyone else is disgusted by Subaru being covered in the Witch's scent, he takes this as a sign that Subaru is faithful to the Witch and a believer in her love.
* YouShallNotPass: [[spoiler:What he attempted to do against both Pandora and Regulus, in order to protect Fortuna and Emilia.]]
* ZergRush: He exploits the nature of his powers by throwing large masses of his followers at his enemies. The fighters are too distracted by the cultists to worry about his Unseen Hands killing key fighters on the field [[spoiler:and he can't be killed as long as his followers or someone with the witch's scent is in the area.]]

The Archbishop of Greed. He believes that he has certain rights that can never be violated, such as the ability to speak without ever being interrupted. He also believes that he is entitled to marry beautiful women whose appearances and personalities he deems pleasing, and will force any woman he finds to fit these criteria to marry him. He also forbids his wives from showing emotion, such as smiling, feeling it makes him like their faces less, and overall treats them more like art objects then people.
----
* AndNowYouMustMarryMe: He frequently forces women to marry him, having had almost 300 wives already. Currently, he plans to make Emilia his 79th wife.
* ArcVillain: Serves as the main villain of the fifth arc, along with Sirius and, to a lesser extent, Capella and the Gluttonies.
* BadassLongcoat: He wears a white longcoat and his Authority makes him so indestructible that he can kill people just by letting them crash into him.
* BerserkButton: If you value your life, don't disrespect this man's rights. Even something minor like interrupting him while he's talking will result in critical injuries.
* BloodbathVillainOrigin: After Regulus obtained the Witch Factor of Greed, he killed his own parents and older brothers, then his hometown, and then everyone in the surrounding cities. He also slaughtered his childhood crush's family before he forced her to marry him.
* TheBluebeard: A variation. Regulus does not want to directly kill his wives, but he will kill them for even slightly upsetting him and has no issue threatening to kill them if he thinks it will give him an advantage.
* BondVillainStupidity: His lack of emotional maturity leaves him with no strategical thinking whatsoever. Among other things, Subaru realizes during their battle that Regulus refuses to let another person have the final word, so he will always reply to an insult before attacking again. This means Subaru can buy several "extra seconds" by insulting him nonstop. He also makes a point to not finish up Subaru while the boy is far from him because he wants to watch him despair and die from up close.
* TheBrute: Regulus is not particularly clever or intelligent, and has no interest in subtle tactics, preferring to use his authority to brute force his way through any situation.
* DirtyCoward: The second he loses his overwhelming advantage of being able to freely use his invincibility, he is quick to beg for mercy and give up.
* DiscOneFinalBoss: [[spoiler:His defeat at approximately the end of the first-third of the story marks a major victory for the heroes, as Regulus was the undeniably strongest active Authority user they have had to deal with and his defeat marked the climax of the crucial battle for Priestella]].
* DisproportionateRetribution: Crusch dares to be rude enough to interrupt him when he's talking? Gotta cut her arm off!
* DissonantSerenity: In his introduction, he acts very nonchalant just after he disintegrated an entire carriage and most of the people inside by simply standing on their way. This goes hand-in-hand with his prioritisation of his "rights" and possessions above everything else in the world, being content to let others do whatever they wish so long as they don't impose on either of those. If they choose to run into where he's choosing to stand and [[InsaneTrollLogic get smashed as a consequence of their own choices]], then it's no concern of his. However, if he perceives another as imposing on his rights, then this goes away, with him becoming visibly more irritated and talkative, usually followed by those who've offended him getting horribly maimed or killed in retaliation.
* DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything: His entitled behavior and his obsession with having wives is a TakeThat to men in real life who feel entitled to unearned respect and affection from women.
* EntitledBastard: His most basic characteristic and the reason he is Archbishop of Greed. Regulus feels that because he does not ask for much he is entitled to anything he does want, and will ruthlessly take these things no matter what other people feel.
* EntitledToHaveYou: His attitude towards his wives. Upon seeing a woman he thinks is pretty enough for him, he will abduct them, and force them into marriage if he deems them pure enough after an interview, killing them if at any step they don't meet his standards.
* FauxAffablyEvil: Regulus constantly claims to be a reasonable and kind person, and his demeanor is superficially polite and serene. However, soon after his introduction, it quickly becomes clear that he's a [[PsychopathicManchild psychotic brat]] who imposes unreasonable standards on other people and flips his lid the moment anyone even so much as slightly inconveniences or displeases him.
* HairTriggerTemper: Even the most minor offense or sign of disrespect is enough to send this guy into a murderous rage.
* {{Hypocrite}}: Regulus expects people to go along with whatever he says, and has a habit of calling people selfish and greedy for not following his demands, without a ounce of shame for his own selfishness.
* InsaneTrollLogic: The mental gymnastics he does to justify his actions can make an olympic athlete blush. A shining example is when he takes his own wives as hostages in his fight against Subaru and Reinhard, then accuses the two of them of trying to murder his wives by making him follow through with the threat.
* KarmicDeath: [[spoiler:He had an antagonistic relationship with Petelgeuse even before his transformation into a raving madman, considering him a man of little value, and his presence at the Elinor forest was ultimately the reason Petelgeuse was forced to absorb the authority of Sloth despite being aware of his incompatibility with it, in order to gain the strength to hold Regulus off, something he mocks as a stupid decision that will negatively affect Petelgeuse more than himself. His invincible authority is ultimately undone during the climax of the battle of Priestella by the same authority that Subaru absorbed from Petelgeuse, his 'invisible providence' move allowing him to harmlessly crush Regulus's final link to Emilia's heart without harming her and forcing the archbishop to feel the negative effects of stopping his own time for too long, leaving him wide open for Reinhard to finish off. Subaru, [[EveryoneHasStandards disgusted by his disrespect]] towards somebody from the same organisation, even a person he utterly despised himself, even makes a point to refer to his use of the move as "Invisible Hands" once again, just to make sure Regulus is aware his defeat stems from the same authority of the man he so personally derided]].
* KilledOffForReal: [[spoiler:He dies in Arc 5 from the combined efforts of Reinhard, Subaru and Emilia.]]
* LightIsNotGood: Unlike the other Archbishops who wear dark clothes, Regulus wears a white outfit that perfectly matches his white hair. He's still evil just like everyone else in the Witch Cult.
* LightningBruiser: {{Exaggerated|Trope}} His Authority of Greed makes him completely invincible and grants him unfathomable destructive capabilities. On top of that, because he can pick and choose what forces act on his body, he can move around in whatever way he wants essentially at will, including at incredibly high speeds. If he weren't so [[PowerfulButIncompetent unconcerned with everything outside his own puerile greed and had even the slightest regard for strategy]], he'd be unstoppable.
* MotorMouth: He never shuts up, likes to go on rants about his "rights" and how he hates to have things taken away from him.
* NighInvulnerability: Regulus can freeze the time of his body to make it completely indestructible. The only problem with this power is that it stops his heartbeat as well. However, he has another ability named "Lion’s Heart" that allows him to impose his heart on someone else, effectively "hiding" it, while borrowing that target's functional heart to keep him alive even when he freezes his own time.
* OhCrap: [[spoiler:When Subaru manages to destroy his Lion's Heart connection to Emilia and forces him under a time limitation for keeping his authority active, which now leaves him in incredible pain to do so, he has only a few seconds to process the reality that he's vulnerable before Emilia starts subjecting him to a ''much-deserved'' NoHoldsBarredBeatdown. Regulus cravenly begs for an honourable duel with the knight who stepped forward to defend his liege's honour instead of her, figuring Subaru is an easier target to handle, and he [[HopeSpot accepts]]... only to pass the offer to the ''other'' knight present at the scene, [[WorldsStrongestMan Reinhard]]. Regulus knows he's a dead man at that point]].
* OlderThanTheyLook: He looks like a young man, but he's really over 100 years old.
* PsychopathicManchild: Regulus has the emotional maturity of a toddler, and throws a violent temper tantrum whenever he's not given exactly what he wants or is displeased in any way, all while ranting about how horrible the offending party is. [[spoiler:It's likely that this is at least partially due to a century of complete invincibility, with nothing that can stop him from taking or doing whatever he wants, has completely warped his view of the world.]]
* SelfMadeOrphan: He murdered his own parents after becoming the Archbishop of Greed.
* ShadowArchetype: Regulus enters the picture after Subaru gets his CharacterDevelopment in Arc 3, and does a good job showing what the boy could have become if he didn't learn his lesson. His EntitledToHaveYou attitude is Subaru's own attitude towards Emilia early in that arc taken to its logical extreme. His constant monologues about how he isn't asking for much and people should let him do what he wants resembles Subaru hating everyone who didn't agree with his plan to save Emilia and be a hero, except that while Subaru was letting his inferiority complex and anger cloud his mind, Regulus has deluded himself into honestly believing he is the only good person around and everyone else is a jerk. Their MotorMouth tendencies are directly compared by Emilia: Subaru talks a lot and can be annoying, but he still does his best to show he cares and is trying to help, while Regulus talks non-stop because he doesn't care what anyone else has to say.
* StellarName: His name refers to the Regulus star, the brightest star in the Leo constellation.
* SupernaturalGoldEyes: He has amber eyes and is an Archbishop with a very powerful ability to stop his own body's time, making him indestructible.
* TimeMaster: His "Time Stop" ability allows him to freeze the time of his body and any object he touches, making it impossible to be destroyed, and allowing it to pass through almost anything and destroy it without resistance.
* UnskilledButStrong: He's less skilled than even Subaru, but wins his fights because he's functionally invincible. Subaru even outlasts him for a long time despite him boasting incredible destructive abilities that enable him to level the landscape around him, simply because he's ''that'' bad at using his immense might with any accuracy against a nimble opponent.
* VillainInAWhiteSuit: He puts on a white suit for his forced wedding with Emilia.
* VillainousValor: [[spoiler:As he arrives at death's door, the sheer hatred he feels towards Subaru and Emilia manages to transform him into a bonafide {{Determinator}} who keeps crawling back towards his foes even though nearly every bone in his body has been crushed by this point. Sadly for him, it's too late to save himself.]]
* WhiteHairBlackHeart: He has white hair and he's an Archbishop of the Witch Cult, making him one of the most dangerous villains in the series.
* WickedPretentious: Regulus is fond of going on long-winded, convoluted monologues about his views and values that give the impression of some kind of philosophy. However, none of it has any real substance, and it's obvious he's just talking to give a thin, deluded justification for the things he does.

!!Archbishops of Gluttony
[[folder:Tropes applying to the three]]
* AmbiguouslyHuman: Though the three are officially stated to be human, their distinctly sharp teeth, unusually similar appearance and [[spoiler:Louis's status as a disembodied soul reliant upon possessing the bodies of others]] puts this claim to question.
* ArcVillain: Introduced in the third arc and playing a secondary role in the fifth arc, the Gluttony triplets eventually serve as the main villains for the sixth arc.
* BarefootLoon: The three are dangerous lunatics and none of them wear shoes.
* TheBeastmaster: Owing to their Authority, Lye and Roy (and Louis as well, presumably) can command Mabeasts around the world to varying degrees. Of the three Great Mabeasts, Lye was only in command of the White Whale, but in Arc 6, Lye and Roy use their Authority to launch a full scale assault on [[spoiler:the Pleiades Watchtower]] using local Mabeast fauna.
* EnhancedPunch: One of the powers which the three have stolen from their victims using [[PowerCopying Lunar Eclipse]], the "Palm of the Fist King", grants the ability to perform a supernaturally strong and precise punch, capable of breaking through any defensive techniques and shattering physical objects, weapons and organs included.
* FamilyThemeNaming: More obvious in the Japanese romaji of the siblings' given names (Rai, Roi, and Rui).
* FlashStep: One of the powers which the three have stolen from their victims using [[PowerCopying Lunar Eclipse]], the "Leaper Technique", grants the ability to move from one place to another in an instant, creating an effect akin to {{teleportation}}.
* HulkingOut: One of the powers which the three have stolen from their victims using [[PowerCopying Lunar Eclipse]], the "Carnivorous Beast", allows the user to toughen his body and make it both many times more resilient against physical damage, and significantly boost the power of their own attacks.
* {{Humanshifting}}: With Solar Eclipse, they can take on the appearance of the people whose name they have eaten. Only Louis uses this power because she isn't afraid of losing herself in the transformation unlike her brothers.
* IKnowYourTrueName: They can't eat fake names; they need to know their target's real name for the Authority of Gluttony to take effect.
* InconsistentSpelling: It's up to you if you choose to call them Lye/Ley, Roy, and Louis or Rai, Roi, and Rui.
* MemoryWipingCrew: The main power of the Authority of Gluttony is "eating" people's memories, both the memories of their target and those who remember them. If the target's memories are eaten, they get amnesia, if the target's name is eaten, they're [[RetGone forgotten by everyone they know]], but if both the memories and name are eaten, they fall into a coma.
* TheMindIsAPlaythingOfTheBody: This is the reason why Lye and Roy don't use Solar Eclipse; whenever they turn into someone whose name they have eaten, they feel like they're at risk of losing their true selves in the transformation. Louis is the only one who isn't afraid of this side effect, [[spoiler:as she arguably has no "self" to lose, being a disembodied spirit trying to create her "perfect life" from the experiences of others]].
* PowerCopying: With Lunar Eclipse, they can use the abilities and techniques of anyone they have eaten, except for Spirit User powers or Divine Protections. They are also incapable of stealing Authorities from other Sin Archbishops through such means.
* ScaryTeeth: The three have creepy shark-like teeth.
* SiblingsInCrime: The three are siblings and collectively form the Archbishop of Gluttony.
* SlasherSmile: The default expression of the three is a maniacal grin, made extra creepy by their ScaryTeeth.
* StellarName:
** Lye's last name Batenkaitos is the traditional name for the star Zeta Ceti, which is part of the constellation Cetus.
** Roy's last name is a reference to the star Alphard, which is the brightest star in the Hydra Constellation.
** Louis's last name is also another name for the star Alpha Leporis, which is the brightest star in the Lepus constellation.
* TwoSiblingsInOne: Louis is actually a mere consciousness without a body that has been trapped inside the Corridor of Memories since her birth. On occasion, she can possess the bodies of her two brothers to experience the outside world.
* VillainTakesAnInterest: Initially it's only Lye, but eventually, all 3 siblings take an interest in Subaru thanks to his inability to be affected by their [[MemoryWipingCrew Authority]], which fascinates and excites Lye because it means Subaru retains personal animosity towards the Gluttony siblings, rather than just hating them for being part of the Witch Cult, as so many of the surviving family and friends of the victims do, once their loved ones are erased from their minds. It's also implied that his growing obsession with Subaru is due to [[spoiler:Rem's memories and strong feelings inside of him]]. Roy thinks he'd be an interesting meal, and Louis becomes obsessed with possessing Subaru once she [[spoiler:eats his name and finds out about Return By Death, believing it to be the key to her desire to live a perfect life]].

Lye governs the gourmet aspect of gluttony.
----
* BarbarianLongHair: He has very long hair that extends past his thighs, giving him a wild look.
* BladeBelowTheShoulder: He has a pair of blades attached to the back of his hands.
* BloodKnight: Unlike Roy, whose only interest is to devour his prey as soon as possible, Lye enjoyed sparring with his enemies and usually gave them a headstart, giving them a chance to prove themselves to be "worthy food" before he could be bothered to fight seriously.
* EvilIsHammy: Much like Petelgeuse, Lye has the time of his life when expressing his joy over finding names and memories which he can feast on.
* HeroKiller: He is the one who ate [[spoiler:Rem's]] memories and name, leaving [[spoiler:her]] in a coma with no one but Subaru remembering [[spoiler:her]].
* IngestingKnowledge: Lye was concerned predominantly with savouring the finest memories of the finest people he could encounter, and specifically sought those with unique talents or skills. Given his PowerCopying, it's not difficult to imagine how he might have arrived at the conclusion that knowledge is, very literally, power.
* KarmicDeath: [[spoiler:He leaves Rem in a coma and erases her from everyone's memories, including her twin sister's, who can only rely on Subaru's assertions that they are family and her subconscious synesthesia to Rem to verify the truth. During their confrontation in the Pleiades Watchtower, Ram takes inspiration from Subaru's recently unlocked [[SupportPartyMember Cor Leonis]] ability and her realisation that Roswall must have had a reason to save Rem alongside herself even when his plans only involved Ram, to utilise their synesthesia to allow Ram to use Rem's horn to activate her own Oni Mode and utterly dominate Lye in the subsequent clash with minimal effort. This is especially poignant as Lye has been getting LostInCharacter in Rem's memories during the fighting, eventually coming to refer to Ram as if she were his own sister, only for Ram to defeat him with a true bond between siblings, eventually avenging Rem by cutting off Lye's head.]]
* LightningBruiser: Lye was definitely the most proficient fighter of the three siblings, as a result of having devoured dozens if not hundreds of skilled warriors and master fighters over his life, utilising their names and memories to copy their powers and effortlessly spar with multiple protagonists simultaneously in Arc 6.
* OffWithHisHead: [[spoiler:He meets his end via decapitation in Arc 6, courtesy of Ram.]]
* PickyEater: Lye often referred to himself as the "intellectual" Sin Archbishop, and proclaimed that, unlike his brother Roy, he would only devour those with interesting and exciting memories, considering them the only "worthy" food out there.
* RelativeButton: Mashes one hard for [[spoiler:Ram]], fully aware of the consequences. Fact is, Lye is so overjoyed at finally finding someone who wants to avenge one of his forgotten victims, he deliberately goads her so she can give him a proper, vengeful fight at long last. [[DidntThinkThisThrough It goes a little too well, however]]...
* ThrillSeeker: As the Gourmet aspect of Gluttony, Lye wants not only to sate his appetite for other people's memories, but also wishes to savour the finest, most exhilirating experiences and sensations of his victims.

* AnArmAndALeg: His fight with [[spoiler:Ricardo]] in Arc 5 costs his opponent an arm, not that Roy was anywhere near satisfied with that.
* ArchNemesis: Becomes one to [[spoiler:Julius]] after devouring his name, causing everyone but Subaru to forget about him.
* AssimilationBackfire: [[spoiler:After breaking into the Pleiades Watchtower, Roy tries to devour the soul of Reid Astrea, the legendary original Sword Saint. However, it quickly becomes apparent that Roy literally bit off more than he could chew, as Reid's soul overpowers Roy's, effectively ressurecting the legendary swordsman.]]
* CombatPragmatist: In contrast with Lye's BloodKnight tendencies, Roy is quite willing to fight dirty if it means getting to eat his meal sooner, and holds no particular love for fighting.
* SealedEvilInACan: [[spoiler:As of the end of Arc 6, Roy has been imprisoned by the heroes using the Evil Sealing Stones, removing him as a threat for the time being.]]
* SpannerInTheWorks:
** During the aftermath of the Witch Cult's attack on Pricilla, Subaru is initially relieved that nobody died or was lost from the fighting, [[spoiler:though not everybody survived entirely [[AnArmAndALeg unscathed]]]], only to panic when he's told about Roy's existence, realising that there was another person running around with the ability to Eat names and erase the victims from everybody's minds but his, meaning his allies wouldn't even know they'd lost some members. Sure enough, [[spoiler:though he's not as badly off as Rem, Julius' name was also eaten, erasing him from Anastasia's mind]].
** [[spoiler:During the attack on the Pleiades Watchtower by all three of the Gluttony siblings, Roy winds up always confronting Reid Astrea's resurrected spirit inside the second floor test and attempting to eat his name, even in multiple scenarios that Subaru suffers through using Return By Death to try and find a solution to their problem. This is aided by the fact Reid ''lets'' Roy eat him, as his soul is too powerful for Roy to fully contain and results in [[AssimilationBackfire his flesh and blood body getting possessed and transmogrified into a copy of Reid's own]], essentially bringing the legendary swordsman BackFromTheDead and allowing him to roam the tower free of the restrictions of the second floor trial, with Reid interfering with Subaru's group in multiple loops for [[ItAmusedMe his own interests]]. This not only brings an additional danger to Subaru's group that results in them getting wiped out multiple times, it also violated one of the watchtower's five rules in the process, which triggers Shaula's command to enforce the rules, involuntarily transforming her into a rampaging giant scorpion that priorities attacks to Subaru's group, depriving them of a valuable ally and forcing a ''further'' obstacle for them to overcome]].
* VillainousGlutton: Unlike his siblings, Roy didn't give much care as for whom he ate, so long as he could sate his hunger.
* WolverineClaws: He fights using two claws.

Louis governs the satiation aspect of gluttony.
----
* AmbiguousSituation: As of the end of Arc 6, Louis has somehow acquired a physical body, gained amnesia and reverted to a child-like, underdeveloped behaviour. She became stranded in Vollachia along with Subaru and Rem, completely at the former's mercy. Subaru is not happy in the least about this.
* AmnesiacsAreInnocent: As a result of eating her own copy's memories, Louis' mind is reduced to that of a toddler and she gets very attached to Subaru. Despite her actions prior to her memory loss, Subaru tolerates her as he understands she isn't a threat in her amnesiac state.
* AmnesiacVillainJoinsTheHeroes: Louis eats her own memories and becomes reduced to a child mentally as a result. Afterwards, she becomes one of Subaru's allies throughout the Vollachia Empire arc and forms a friendship with the also amnesiac Rem.
* AssimilationBackfire: Discovering and copying Subaru's Return by Death causes significant trauma for her clone.
* BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor: Once she eats Subaru's memories and finds out about Return by Death, Louis thinks that's the ideal power to have the most perfect and happiest life since the user can undo any of their mistakes and failures. Wishing to steal Return by Death, Louis creates a copy of herself and uses it to possess Subaru's body. Louis then discovers that she vastly underestimated the critical mental damage and trauma caused by experiencing your own death over and over again. After she's out of Subaru's body, Louis doesn't care about having the perfect life anymore; all she can think now is how much she doesn't want to die again.
* DeathOfPersonality: After she eats her own memories, Louis' original personality is essentially gone and she's reduced to a BlankSlate with the mentality of an infant.
* DuplicateDivergence: She creates a copy of herself to possess Subaru's body and steal his Return by Death. After a few deaths, the copy of Louis is left broken and traumatized, leading to a conflict when the original Louis still wants Return by Death and hasn't experienced the pain of death.
* EnergyBeings: Louis is the only one of the Gluttony trio not to possess a physical body of her own. Instead, she is nothing but a soul stranded in the Corridor of Memories, capable of occasionally possessing her brothers' bodies to experience the physical world. As of Arc 7, she has somehow acquired a physical body, but has also lost all her memories and sense of self, practically reducing her to the level of an infant.
* EtherealWhiteDress: She exists as a disembodied soul inside the Corridor of Memories, but appears as a young girl in a white mini dress.
* GrandTheftMe: The big plot twist of Arc 6 is "amnesiac" Subaru was really Louis who stole Subaru's body and left his real consciousness trapped in the Corridor of Memories, all in order to obtain Return by Death to lead the perfect life.
* HoistByHerOwnPetard: Louis's cloning ability ends up being the reason for her ultimate defeat, since the Clone experiences Return by Death as Subaru and ends up turning against the original Louis, out of a frenzied desire not to die.
* HorrifyingTheHorror: The copy of herself she creates to possess Subaru becomes ''utterly cowed'' by him after she experienced Return By Death for multiple loops whilst lost in character as him, experiencing the trauma of dying again and again and being forced to rapidly experience various means of dying by their perilous situation. Upon Subaru managing to regain his body and self through a SplitPersonalityMerge that expelled her, realising that Subaru had experienced ''even more'' deaths than that first-hand and was prepared to suffer further ones until he found a solution to their impossible problem has her calling him a monster that devours death.
* LightIsNotGood: She appears as a beautiful young girl with long golden hair and wearing a white dress. Despite her looks, she's still one of the bad guys.
* MadnessMantra:
** "I want to be happy. I want to be happy. I want to be happy. I want to be happy. I want to be happy."
** After being traumatized by experiencing Return by Death while possessing Subaru's body, the mantra switches to "I don't want to die. I don't want to die. I don't want to die. I don't want to die. I don't want to die."
* MeaningfulName: 'Arneb' is the Brightest Star in the Constellation of Lepus. Lepus is Latin for 'Hare' and like the Great Rabbit, Louis can create exact clones of herself and her abilities.
* MeaningfulRename: Subaru renames her amnesiac self as Spica, symbolizing him giving her the chance to start over under a new identity.
* SelfDisposingVillain: In Arc 6, Louis steals Subaru's body by having a duplicate of herself possess him, resulting in the "amnesiac Subaru" who tries to recover his old memories for most of the arc. Once the real Subaru gets his body back, the duplicate Louis has been deeply traumatized and mentally broken by the horrifying effects of Return by Death. The original Louis thinks her duplicate is just faking her trauma to keep Return by Death to herself, resulting in Louis eating her own name and memories. Afterwards, she's reduced to the mindset of an infant.
* SelfDuplication: Similar to the White Whale and the Great Rabbit, Louis can create a copy of herself and have it possess someone else while her original self is still at the Corridor of Memories. However, the Mabeasts' existences are dominated by a single, all-consuming desire to the point it erodes rational thought, thus there is no difference between individual members of the Mabeast copies. In contrast, Louis's clone has her own thoughts and feelings.
* SexyBacklessOutfit: Her dress has a gap at the back that leaves her skin bare.
* StellarName: Spica, the name Subaru chooses for her amnesiac self, is the brightest star in the constellation of Virgo.
* TomatoInTheMirror: Arc 6's big twist is that the "amnesiac Subaru" the story has been following ever since he ran off somewhere and lost his memories in the tower is actually a clone of Louis, who duplicated her consciousness and had it possess Subaru's body, becoming lost in the memories of his Pre-Lugunica life in order to create a "new" Natsuki Subaru whose name she could eat all over again in order to find her perfect life. The real Subaru has been trapped inside the Corridor of Memories the whole time, and towards the end of the arc, undergoes a SplitPersonalityMerge of sorts with the Subaru who experienced multiple death loops inside the tower to regain control of his body and identity, expelling Louis' clone with all the trauma that comes with experiencing Return by Death.
* TheUnintelligible: Her amnesiac self is incapable of forming intelligible speech.
* VillainProtagonist: She's technically the protagonist for the majority of Arc 6 where she creates a copy of herself to possess Subaru's body, resulting in the "amnesiac Subaru" who tries to recollect his former self.
* VillainousBreakdown: Having known the horrors of Return by Death through the possession of Subaru's body, Louis is reduced to a traumatized, hysterical, and sobbing mess.

The Archbishop of Wrath. She sees herself as Petelgues's wife despite never seeing the two of them together on screen and Petelgues's fixation on Satella. She has the ability to manipulate people's emotions and fights with two large hooks on chains.
----
* ArcVillain: Alongside Regulus, is the main threat facing the heroes in the fifth arc.
* BandageMummy: Sirius' entire body is covered in disorderly wrapped bandages except for her eyes.
* ChainedByFashion: She has long, distorted chains around both of her arms with ends that drag along the floor.
* EmotionBomb: Sirius can share or transmit her emotions and senses to others. After polarizing emotions such as anger or sorrow, she can transmit it to any people in their vicinity, either taking control of them or resonating a certain emotion between a certain amount of people to raise it to the point of madness.
* GenderBlenderName: Sirius is a male name, but here it's given to a woman.
* LoveFreak: Like her "husband".
* PlayingWithFire: She can convert her chains into pure fire and is a master of fire magic in general.
* SelfProclaimedLoveInterest: She's Petelgeuse self-proclaimed wife. Emphasis on "self-proclaimed".
* StellarName: Her name refers to the Sirius star, which is part of the Canis Major constellation and also the brightest star in the Earth's night sky.
* {{Synchronization}}: Since she can share senses such as distress or pain, if anyone dies within the effected area she can force others within the same area to die the same way. Also if she's hurt the damage will transfer to anyone she connected with while reducing hers unless it exceeds a certain threshold.
* VillainessesWantHeroes: A dark variant towards [[spoiler:Subaru. After he absorbed Petelguese's Authority and they encounter each other, she believes that he is Petelguese and attempts to claim him as hers.]] While not as terrifying, this is treated in a similar way to Satella's obsession with Subaru: It's not sexy fanservice, it's terrifying {{Squick}}, made even more upsetting by how Sirius is an adult and Subaru is a high schooler.
* WhiteHairBlackHeart: She has silver hair sticking out of the bandages of her head and she's evil and crazy as anyone would expect a Witch Cult's Archbishop to be.
* {{Yandere}}: She's obssesed with Petelgeuse to the point of being delusional. She considers every woman ''standing close'' to Petelgeuse a love rival.

----
* BloodyMurder: She 'tests' Subaru and Crusch by transforming parts of her body into lethal black dragon blood. She refers to it as if it were actual Dragon blood, and exposes them to it to verify how 'worthy' they are of her gift. Though Crusch is rendered bedridden, in horrific pain and gradually getting weaker from the Toxic substance, Subaru apparently adapts to it without issue, [[spoiler:save that his shredded right leg from meeting Regulus apparently regrows the damaged Flesh, now dyed jet-black and apparently slightly stronger from the transformation. Subaru later discovers that he can somehow absorb the cursed blood in Crusch through touch, though the rate of transfer is heavily unequal against the amount he takes from her, and the process is greatly painful for him]].
* TheDreaded: [[spoiler:The fact that Meili went as far as asking the very people she tried to kill to protect her shows just how terrifying "Mother" truly is. Even Elsa felt nothing but fear towards her boss.]]
* HateSink: She is worse than any member of the witch cult. She torments her victims by transforming into pieces of flesh, five feet sized flies, and also turned her victim into a black dragon to trick Subaru and Crush into thinking he was Capella and had him murdered without remorse. The worst part about her is that she is a pure sadist who is in complete control of her actions without being a pyschopath like most of the members of the Witch Cult who are insane by either falling brainwashed or losing their sense of humanity.
* HealingFactor: She can near-instantly recover from any wound no matter how big due to her ability to transform them into being whole again. She can even survive a fall from a terminal height.
* KillItWithFire: In her dragon transformation she can expel out black flames with her breath which consumes anything it touches and isn't affected by water.
* LosingYourHead: Al manages to decapitate her during their fight. To his horror, it does nothing but amuse her.
* LovecraftianSuperpower: She's shown to be able to transform her arms into snakes.
* {{Narcissist}}: She believes all the love and respect in the world exist to be hers and will change her appearance to make others love her.
* NighInvulnerability: She takes tons of severe fatal damages throughout her fights which range anywhere from getting her head caved in and her heart being stabbed to completely being smashed to pieces. Despite that she not fazed by any of it and even seems to FeelNoPain thanks to the extreme regenerative power of her Authority.
* {{Sadist}}: Unlike any of the other Archbishops, Capella is not insane and just enjoys inflicting pain onto others.
