!Past Tributes

Notable tributes that participated in Games before the 74th and (with the exception of Maysilee Donner and Titus) won. Winning Games leads to a life of luxury and stability for themselves and their families, or so the Capitol would have you believe. Victors then act as mentors to the succeeding tributes from their district - it's their job to prepare them for arena and line up sponsors for them.

----
* TheAlcoholic: Many past victors turn to vice due to having too much time, money, and [=PTSD=] on their hands.
* {{Broken Ace}}s: Everyone celebrates their triumph except... most of them.
* DwindlingParty: Not really a party, but still, out of what's implied to be about several dozens there are only seven remaining by the end of ''Mockingjay Part 2''.
* GildedCage[=/=]LonelyAtTheTop: Their five-star housing and life of luxury post-Games is this. [[spoiler:The Capitol can still kill their loved ones if they don't behave.]]
* IntergenerationalFriendship: They've known each other for many years.
* KidHeroAllGrownUp: Well, for a debatable definition of "hero", but in general, they all fought and achieved victory as teenagers, and were glorified in-universe for doing so. Nowadays they're mostly jaded and burnt-out adults.
* MentorArchetype: It's their job to mentor the tributes from their district.
* PyrrhicVictory: Majority of them consider their victory as such.
* RetiredBadass: Technically all of them until the Quarter Quell comes around.
* ShellShockedVeteran: To varying degrees. How would ''you'' react if you live well, despite knowing you only got that far due to 23 other kids dying (some of which you watched die or killed yourself)? For bonus points, ThereAreNoTherapists.

* AbusiveParents: [[WordOfSaintPaul Cashmere's actor, Stephanie Schlund, states]] that the siblings' parents were extremely hard on them.
* BackToBackBadasses: Cashmere and her brother won two consecutive games, the only known example of doing so.
* BrotherSisterTeam: With Gloss, her brother. They're shown training together and stick close throughout the Quarter Quell.
* CrocodileTears: She tears up during her interview with Caesar, which Katniss was disgusted by and could tell they weren't real tears. Haymitch says that it's for anything to stop the games.
* FauxActionGirl: Almost as bad as Glimmer in the novel. Being a previous victor of a Hunger Games and being popular within the Capitol to receive a lot of sponsors, Haymitch described her and Gloss as lethal. While she was the one who killed Seeder, it was offscreen. So, in all of what's shown of her in the arena proper, she was unceremoniously killed by Johanna before she could do anything.

A female tribute from District 2. She was the victor of the 62nd Hunger Games and competed again in the 75th Hunger Games. Being a previous victor, she presumably mentored other tributes for the games.
----
* AdaptedOut: She isn't mentioned in the first ''Mockingjay'' film. In the second, she appears only when the surviving victors are reunited.
* AxCrazy: You have to be if you choose to file your teeth into sharp points.
* BigBadDuumvirate: With Brutus. This doubles as a BigBadEnsemble with Snow. Snow is the overall BigBad, however, as far as the games are concerned, Enobaria, Brutus, and the other two Careers are the enemy.
* BloodKnight: She shows enthusiasm and gusto for returning into the arena. She's just as upset about it as everyone else, though.
* DegradedBoss: From adversary in the Quarter Quell to just one of the surviving victors after the war ends.
* DemotedToExtra: In both the book and film of ''Mockingjay'', she only appears in one scene near the end that gathers all of the surviving victors together.
* ManBitesMan: Her preferred method of combat -- killing people with her sharpened ''teeth''.
* PetTheDog: Despite being a brute, she does take part in holding hands with Katniss and the other tributes before being forced back into the Hunger Games.
* PunchClockVillain: Her appearance in the council of former victors shows she's reasonable (if a little revenge-happy) when not forced into battle and doesn't like the games as much as she shows everyone.

The male tribute from District 3 who participated in the 75th Hunger Games, was the victor of an unspecified Hunger Games, and is one of the 6 people who survived the 75th Hunger Games. Beetee is an expert with electronics and wiring.
----
* BlackAndNerdy: He's black, and his intelligence seems to isolate him socially to a certain extent.
* TheCracker: After joining the District 13 Resistance, he divides his time between hacking the Capitol's network (which he designed) and building weapons.
* DeadpanSnarker: He has a very dry, understated sense of humor.
* DemotedToExtra: In ''Mockingjay: Part 2'' given that it focuses more on the battlefield action sequences.
* FinishingEachOthersSentences: With Wiress, with whom he shares a close bond.
* GadgeteerGenius: He has a talent for building... well, anything.
* HandicappedBadass: [[spoiler:His injuries from the Quarter Quell put him in a wheelchair, but he's still every bit the engineering genius, now adding [[TheCracker Systems Cracker]] and Weaponsmith to his list of titles.]]

* TheLoad: [[spoiler:Beetee spends a lot of time in ''Catching Fire'' being carried around by Peeta (and occasionally Finnick). Subverted, as he's the brains behind their plans and it's thanks to him that they were able to leave the arena at all.]]
* NamedByTheAdaptation: He got a surname in the films.
* NonActionGuy: Beetee is not a physically formidable man; as a result, he relies on his intelligence to get ahead. He survived his Hunger Games through ingenious use of traps.

A male victor from District 4. He was known for winning the 65th Hunger Games at the age 14 and was later one of the survivors of the 3rd Quarter Quell.
----
* AWolfInSheepsClothing: He pretends to be a piece of shit playing along with the Capitol's games. Turns out he's diehard rebel and long term [[RapeIsASpecialKindOfEvil victim of sex trafficking]], and he'll do whatever it takes to destroy Panem.
* AdaptationalBadass: In the novels, Finnick was called ''one of'' the youngest victors ever; in the films, he's explicitly named as ''the'' youngest.
* AdaptationDyeJob: Described as having bronze, or auburn, hair in the books, while he has brown hair in the movies.
* AdaptationalModesty: For the Quarter Quell tribute parade outfit, the book has him dressed in a draped gold fishing net knotted over his loins, and nothing else. In the film he has his lower half mostly wrapped up by a material resembling fish scale and belted at his waist.
* BetaCouple: With Annie.
* TheCasanova: His public persona. He's devastatingly loyal to Annie, though, who loves him back.
* CruelAndUnusualDeath: [[spoiler:Being ripped apart by lizard mutations probably wasn't the best way to go.]]
* DiesDifferentlyInAdaptation: [[spoiler:Both versions have him finished off alongside the lizard mutts by the Holo device's self-destruction, but prior to that his book counterpart has him get decapitated by the lizard mutts, while in the film, the mutts are trying to rip him apart and devour him alive.]]
* FamedInStory: One of the most popular victors.
* FunPersonified: Implied to be his natural personality, when he's not in the midst of crippling depression or otherwise wearing one of his other masks. He's easygoing, likes to tease and play little jokes on people, but also prone to cracking jokes at his own expense, such as when he says he can't leave Mags because she actually ''likes'' him.
* LadykillerInLove: With Annie.
* TheLancer: [[spoiler:To Katniss in the Quarter Quell]].
* LikeBrotherAndSister: With Johanna; Finnick is one of the only people Johanna trusts.
* MercyKill: [[spoiler:Gets one as Katniss activates the Holo device's self-destruct mode which explodes Finnick along with the Mutts mauling him to death.]]
* MrFanservice: In-universe example; later {{deconstructed}}.
* NiceGuy: ''By far'' one of the least flawed and most generally likable people in [[CrapsackWorld Panem]] whom we meet. It may seem odd at first because career tributes are typically portrayed in a more negative light, but Katniss eventually comes to realize that they are just pawns like everyone else in the Capitol's sadistic and varied games of control.
* NoSenseOfPersonalSpace: He does occasionally get up too close to Katniss just to mess with her.
* PrettyBoy: One reason he was deemed a Capitol favorite both during and after his games. [[spoiler:Snow also weaponizes this by offering him up to Capitol citizens]].
* ProngsOfPoseidon: His weapon of choice.
* ScarpiaUltimatum: Essentially Snow's method of [[spoiler:making sure Finnick plays along with being sold to Capitol citizens is by threatening to kill those he loves if he fails to comply]].
* SexSlave: [[spoiler:What President Snow turned him into due to his attractive appearance. Finnick was forced to play ball when Snow threatened to murder his loved ones if he did not. Apparently, this in not all too uncommon among victors who are considered physically attractive.]]
* ShellShockedVeteran: Averted. ZigZagged. His original Games didn't seem to have an impact on him, but he sinks into a terrible depression after Annie is arrested by the Capitol, has trouble focusing on anything, and has a nervous breakdown over what might be happening to her after watching Katniss do the same. He seems relatively able to hold himself together, but it's a fragile thing and he does it mostly for other people's benefit. With Annie gone in "Mockingjay," he's relatively out of it, up until he realizes that he needs to help Katniss hold herself together.
* SoBeautifulItsACurse: Justified, as it turns out. Apparently being an extremely attractive victor has a bigger downside than you'd think.
* SomethingOnlyTheyWouldSay: How he convinces Katniss he's on her side in the film - he tells her [[spoiler:"Remember who the real enemy is."]]
* SpikyHair: Sports an anime-like hairstyle in Catching Fire. In Mockingjay, it's toned down a bit.
* StarCrossedLovers: While Katniss and Peeta are actually an aversion, Finnick and Annie play this straight. They're not allowed to be together because he's far too attractive for Snow to be able to resist turning him into a sex slave and she is too mentally unstable to be considered a suitable partner for him in public.
* SurvivalMantra: Non-verbal example: his constant knotting in the third movie.
* {{Troll}}: Tries to corrupt Katniss by seductively eating sugar cubes in front of her before the Quarter Quell.
* {{Tykebomb}}: He'd qualify just for being a Career, but while most Careers volunteer at 18, Finnick is specifically singled out for winning his Games at '''14'''. In the film, Haymitch says he is ''the'' youngest ever, straight-up.
* WalkingShirtlessScene: Befitting his status as MrFanservice, he's constantly shirtless before the Quarter Quell.

A victor from District 4. Annie is known for winning the 70th Hunger Games.
----
* AdaptationDyeJob: Her seconds-long cameo in the Catching Fire film (and later confirmed in Mockingjay) shows her with red hair, as opposed to the books' brown.
* BetaCouple: With Finnick.
* BreakTheCutie: Her experience in the Games wasn't pleasant, to say the least, and left her shell-shocked to the point that she almost completely lost her mind.
* DamselInDistress: [[spoiler:Annie is captured and held prisoner by the Capitol at the end of ''Catching Fire'', but she is rescued in ''Mockingjay.'']]
* DemotedToExtra: She eventually has quite a few scenes in the final book, but barely even speaks in the movies.
* HeroicBSOD: Twice: first when she witnesses her district partner being beheaded in her Games, and again when her name is drawn for the Quarter Quell. Luckily for her, [[CoolOldLady Mags]] volunteers to take her place.
* IHaveYourWife: [[spoiler:Captured by the Capitol to be used as leverage against Finnick. Fortunately, the rebels save her.]]
* MeaningfulName: Annie ''Crest''a is from District 4, whose main industry is fishing.
* NonActionGuy: Despite being a victor, she's not a killer or a fighter. She won her Games by being able to swim when a dam broke and flooded the arena.
* TheOphelia: She's presented as unstable at the best of times.
* ShellShockedVeteran: Not necessarily a more ''extreme'' example than many other victors, who are just as broken after their games, but simply a more noticeable one. Haymitch [[LampshadeHanging lampshades]] this at one point, commenting that Annie is actually ''not'' crazy, it's just that her PTSD manifests itself in a form which makes most people think she is, instead of the typical substance abuse, or reckless, self-destructive, jerkass behavior that comes to define most of the other victors.
* SoHappyTogether: She and Finnick.
* SomeoneToRememberHimBy: [[spoiler:The honeymoon was cut short, but Annie still got a child out of Finnick.]]
* SuperSwimmingSkills: How she won her games, outswimming the other tributes.
* WeakButSkilled: We never heard of her killing anyone, but she could ''swim,'' so she outlasted everyone when the arena flooded. Though it is a safe bet she killed a few tributes before the death of her district partner, given that she was a career tribute.
* [[WhatDoesSheSeeInHim What Does He See In Her]]: Out of all the rich and powerful lovers that Finnick's had, "the mad girl he left behind him" is the only one he truly loves.

* HeroicSacrifice: [[spoiler:Took Annie's place in the Quarter Quell, knowing that the Games are a death sentence at the best of times. At her age, she doesn't stand a chance. 223* IntergenerationalFriendship: With Finnick, Katniss and Peeta, ''especially'' Finnick. Possibly to Annie.
* IWillOnlySlowYouDown: [[spoiler:Walks into poison fog so that Finnick can focus on rescuing Peeta instead]].
* TheLoad: She is literally The Load in ''Catching Fire'', as she is an elderly woman whom Finnick carries around in the arena. She was his mentor, and volunteered as tribute to save his love, Annie. [[spoiler:She eventually gives up her own life by walking into a poisonous fog, so that Finnick will turn his efforts to protecting Katniss]].
* MamaBear: She volunteers to take Annie's place in the Quarter Quell to protect her.
* TheMentor: She is Finnick's mentor.
* MoralityPet: She's the first indication that Finnick is a decent guy by the way he cares about her. Despite being a Career, he, like Katniss, values her over the younger, stronger competitors.
* NeutralFemale: Because of her age. Since she was a previous victor, though, we can assume she was an ActionGirl in the past.
* ParentalSubstitute: Finnick considers Mags to be a mother to him. [[spoiler:Her death utterly breaks his spirit, at least temporarily.]]
%%* RetiredBadass
* TeamMom: Of the original alliance of herself, Katniss, Peeta, and Finnick, she's tender and nurturing to all of them. [[spoiler:Her death breaks all of them, especially Finnick.]]

A female victor of the 71st Hunger Games from District 7. She was reaped for the third Quarter Quell.
----
* ActionGirl: As a past Tribute. She won her games by pretending to be weak and helpless until the last few Tributes remained... then she dropped the facade and murders them all.
* AdaptationalAttractiveness: Appears more feminine in the film than what she's described in the books.
* AloofDarkHairedGirl: Can be quite snarky most of the time.
* AntiHero: She may not be the nicest person you'll meet, but she is part of the alliance willing to keep Katniss alive for the rebellion.

** JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Complains, berates, and even admits she finds Katniss annoying, but has good intentions.
* BoisterousBruiser: Jena Malone's performance has plenty of this.
* BoyishShortHair: Averted in the film. [[spoiler:Except the ending of ''Mockingjay'', given the shaved hair is starting to grow again.]]
* BreakTheHaughty: Is a really self-confident warrior. Water torture breaks her down.
* BrokenBird: But then again, aren't all past victors?
* ClusterFBomb: In the second film, she delivers one on live television:
-->'''Johanna:''' The deal was that if I win the Hunger Games, I get to live the rest of my life in peace, but now you want to kill me again. Well, you know what? [beep] THAT! AND [beep] ANYONE THAT HAD ANYTHING TO DO WITH IT!
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: How she won her Games. When she actually appears, [[LetsGetDangerous she drops it.]]
* DamselInDistress: [[spoiler:She's taken hostage by the Capitol at the end of ''Catching Fire'' and held in their captivity throughout a part of ''Mockingjay'']].
* DeadpanSnarker: "At least they'll have a hard time figuring out our plan, since we can't even understand it ourselves."
* DefrostingIceQueen: When she's introduced, she acts as little more than a {{jerkass}}. However, she becomes somewhat nicer later on, as well as more sympathetic, especially when it turns out that [[spoiler:she's one of the Tributes in on the operation from District 13 to break out Katniss]].
* DemotedToExtra: Though she still appears in several scenes, her most significant impact on the story in ''Mockingjay'' (her training with Katniss) is cut from the films.
%%* DontYouDarePityMe
* ElectricTorture: Subjected to this courtesy of the Capitol.
* FamedInStory: Like all other victors.
* {{Foil}}: She's basically Katniss, if all of her loved ones were killed off, right down to being the only female victor in her district. At one point, Katniss wonders if Johanna's treatment of her resembles what it's like to have an older sister that ''hates'' you.
* GoodIsNotNice: Being on Katniss's side doesn't stop her from being rude, insulting, and harsh.
%% * KnightInSourArmor: Even more once [[spoiler:she's tortured by the Capital, becoming a SourSupporter of the revolution.]]
* TheLadette: Even if AdaptationalAttractiveness makes her more feminine looking, she's foul-mouthed, a {{Jerkass}}, and is a vicious fighter.
* NakedOnArrival: Not exactly, but the first thing she does on-screen is complain about her costume and strip down to her slippers. And then get in an elevator with Katniss, Peeta, and Haymitch, chatting and flirting casually the whole way up.

Chaff has absolutely no bearing on the plot despite surviving almost to the end of the Quarter Quell; he dies off-screen with no fanfare.

The only living Hunger Games victor from District 12.
----
* AdaptationDyeJob: In the books he's described as dark-haired (the "Seam look"), but in the movie he's very blond.
* AdaptationalAttractiveness: Katniss's descriptions of him in the books, particularly the first book, make him out to be ''super gross'', though she reluctantly admits that he wasn't bad looking when he was younger and would have been an attractive adult if not for the numerous unpleasant side-effects of his alcoholism. At no point does Woody Harrelson even come close to the outright disgusting nature of Haymitch in much of the books, looking scruffy at worst for the most part; there's a reason he attracted more fangirls and shippers in the movies, for sure.
* AgeLift: You can actually work out Haymitch's exact age in the first book: he's 40, [[note]]He won the 50th Hunger Games twenty-four years before the book begins, at age 16.[[/note]] and therefore is presumably 40-ish by the end of the series, though he's described as looking a little older, presumably due to the incredible stress he's lived with for most of his life. In the films the exact details of when his games took pace are omitted, presumably because he's portrayed by an actor who was already in his fifties when the first film was released.
* TheAlcoholic: It's toned down significantly from the books, where he's portrayed as actively struggling with alcoholism while he's dealing with everything else that's going on. In the films he's occasionally NailedToTheWagon, but it doesn't really interfere with his other duties too much; for example, he doesn't spend the beginning of ''Mockingjay'' hospitalised with severe withdrawal symptoms, like he does in the books.
* AwLookTheyReallyDoLoveEachOther: Bickers a lot with Katniss and at one point outright tells her he would have rather focused on saving Peeta in the 74th Games but there are also moments that show that him and Katniss care deeply about each other. It's his embrace she throws herself into after winning the Games and in "''Mockingjay''" it's his arms she cries in over [[spoiler:the torture of Peeta]].
* BirdsOfAFeather: Has a lot of similarities to Katniss. Perversely this often results in them taking out their own self-hatred on each other.
* TheChessmaster: In ''Catching Fire'', Haymitch helps orchestrate Katniss's escape from the Quarter Quell.
* CatchPhrase: "Stay alive."
* CynicalMentor: Due to dealing with the trauma from his own games coupled with years and years of watching his charges die in the arena.
%%* DeadpanSnarker
* DrowningMySorrows: Unable to cope with the emotional fallout of having been a tribute in the Games and subsequently having to lead fresh tributes to the slaughter, he dives into a bottle.
%%* DrunkenMaster
* FamedInStory: Pretty much the only celebrity District 12 has, until the 74th Games.
* FamilyOfChoice: With Peeta, Katniss and Effie.
* GoodFlawsBadFlaws: His alcoholism, which he is able to overcome at several points in the story only to fall back into the bottle later on.
%%* HiddenDepths:
* InsufferableGenius: Back in the day. Still definitely has traces of this attitude but most of it has been beaten out of him.
* IntergenerationalFriendship: With Katniss and Peeta. He likes Peeta best, but he and Katniss are so alike that he has an easier time understanding (and manipulating) her.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He's jaded and bitter, certainly, but that's because of how many times where he's watched NonActionGuy tributes get blown up. He becomes a lot more helpful when Katniss gets fed up with his bull and proves herself having more than a snowball's chance in hell.
* KidHeroAllGrownUp: He was a winning tribute of the Hunger Games as a teen but has since become a depressed alcoholic, [[spoiler:but eventually returns to heroism as a leader of the rebellion in the third movie.]]
* KnightInSourArmor: He's one of the most morally upstanding characters in the setting. It's just by the time we first meet him he is so ''utterly'' broken that he just seems to be nothing more than a useless drunkard who couldn't care less about the fate of the kids under his care.
* NailedToTheWagon: Courtesy of Peeta in "Catching Fire" and of District Thirteen in "''Mockingjay''".
* TheNicknamer: Katniss is "sweetheart" and Peeta is "the boy".
* ObfuscatingStupidity: At first Katniss just assumes (like everyone else in her district) that he is nothing but a useless drunkard with no social skills. Then it's revealed that Haymitch is secretly manipulating the events of the quell to aid the rebel cause and is ''no where near'' as stupid or as useless as everyone assumes him to be... while also being a drunkard with no social skills. Although to be fair, both Katniss and Peeta had already begun to realize this. It's the Capitol who (sadly for them) does not.
* OneManArmy: In his Hunger Games, he was downright scary, able to take on whole squads of armed careers with a knife and win.
* ParentalSubstitute: For Katniss, although they both seem loathe to admit it, it is certainly there. Peeta [[LampshadeHanging lampshades]] this by pointing out that how similar the two of them are to each other seems to be the reason they bicker so much.
* PromotedToLoveInterest: You have to squint pretty hard to catch the hints of something going on between Haymitch and Effie in the books. The films make their growing attraction to each other much more explicit - helped in large part by the fact that it mainly happens in the ''Mockingjay'' movies, during scenes where Effie was no longer present in the books.
* RelationshipUpgrade: Related to the above: by the end of ''Mockingjay: Part 2'', it's heavily implied that he and Effie have either experienced one off-screen or - more likely - are looking forward to one once his exile with Katniss is over.
* ShipTease: With Effie.
* ShipperOnDeck: For Katniss and Peeta. At first it seems like he merely supports the idea of them pretending to have a romance but by the second movie he seems to support the pairing for real.
* SinkOrSwimMentor: He starts off as this but progresses to CynicalMentor when he discovers that Katniss and Peeta may actually have a fighting chance, and ends up as something of a TeamDad.
* SmartPeoplePlayChess: In "''Catching Fire''" he is seen playing chess with Peeta.
* SourOutsideSadInside: He's a cynical drunk who often appears callous, but he's really just suffering from PTSD.
* TeamDad: To Katniss and Peeta.
* TooMuchAlike: One of the reasons why he and [[SourOutsideSadInside Katniss]] tend to argue so much, especially when she herself finally succumbs to the burdens of being a victor and eventually a figurehead of a rebellion against the system that oppressed her and her fellow tributes and victors.
* TricksterMentor: Haymitch is a lazy alcoholic whose methods often seem ineffective, cynical or pointless, but everything he does has a specific purpose and makes him an excellent mentor to Katniss and Peeta.
* TrueCompanions: With many of the victors, but most importantly with Katniss and Peeta to whom he becomes a TeamDad.
* TryNotToDie: His go-to advice.
* WakeUpFighting: Haymitch sleeps with a knife, and waking him up is a rather dangerous thing to do.

* ObfuscatingStupidity: The female.

* AdaptationalBadass: Woof is described to be senile and fragile in the book. In the film, however, he is a lot more physically fit, justified due to his actor being a stuntman.
* AdaptedOut: Cecelia's three children, who provide her only real moment of characterisation in the book (and lead to a discussion of what happens to the children of past victors) are not present in the film.
* DemotedToExtra: Katniss never talks to them in the training center, nor are they mentioned when Haymitch introduces the tributes to them or the bloodbath, only being seen at the interviews and the tribute parade in the film.
* RetiredBadass: Both, as they were both victors. Cecelia is among the last to be killed in the bloodbath in the movie, along with the District 9 and 10 females.
