Scribblenauts has quite a large cast of characters to summon. Now let's write, "T-V T-R-O-P-E-S C-H-A-R-A-C-T-E-R P-A-G-E".

!!Maxwell
[[quoteright:301:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/maxwell_7.png]]
The hero of the series. A young boy with a magic notebook, he joined the Scribblenauts organization so he could become a Scribblenaut. This sends him on a quest around the world to gather the "Starites", special stars created by fulfilling his missions.
----
* BatmanCanBreatheInSpace: Unlike the astronauts of the series, he is perfectly fine when traveling to other planets, and does not need any special equipment.
* CharacterDevelopment: ''Unmasked'' shows that he learned his lesson from ''Unlimited'' (storywise at least, there's probably nothing stopping the player from being a {{jerkass}}).
* ChildSoldiers: He has been sent to war several times.
* ClothesMakeTheSuperman: In ''Unmasked'', he can gain the abilities of DC heroes or villains by wearing their costumes. For instance, wearing the Superman costume grants him {{flight}}, [[LightningBruiser increased strength, speed, and durability]], and the ability to shoot EyeBeams.
* CreateYourOwnVillain: Using his notebook, he created the doppelganger, an evil duplicate of himself who acts as the villain of multiple games.
* CutsceneIncompetence: In normal gameplay, Maxwell is [[RealityWarper pretty much]] [[InvincibleHero unstoppable]]. In story sequences, especially in ''Unmasked'', either his notebook's power is severely nerfed or he just doesn't think of any of the countless ways he could instantly solve every problem.
* {{Determinator}}: In ''Unlimited'', nothing will stop him from rescuing Lily from the TakenForGranite curse.
* FragileSpeedster: In the first game, Maxwell moves extremely fast, but he's only able to take twice as many hits as [[MadeOfPlasticine an ordinary human]].
* IndyPloy: Invoked by the notebook: Maxwell will use literally whatever is at hand.
* InstantExpert: Unless there is a plot-related purpose for it not to work, Maxwell can use any item that has a function. Anything he spawns will be usable.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Maxwell usually doesn't get much in terms of characterization, but the plot of ''Scribblenauts Unlimited'' is kicked off when he plays a trick on a hungry beggar and conjures him a rotten apple, and he spends the rest of the game trying to make amends.
* KidHero: Maxwell is a child, one of the youngest of his family.
* MadScientist: In one level, he decides to make a zombie out of random body parts.
* MasterOfDisguise: He has a variety of disguises, using both avatars and items.
* NoodleImplements: Write ANYTHING. Chances are he can use it.
* PopCulturedBadass: The ''Unmasked'' comic book series reveals him to be one.
* RealityWarper: Thanks to his magical notebook, he has godlike power.
* RedIsHeroic: He always wears his red rooster helmet.
* SignatureHeadgear: Never seen without his rooster helmet; a red hat with three horns. In ''Unlimited'', it's revealed that his family has their rooster hat as well.
* SuddenlyVoiced: He's a HeroicMime in the first three games. Come ''Unmasked'' he suddenly starts talking to other characters.
* TookALevelInBadass: In the second game, he gained the power to use adjectives, becoming even stronger than before. He also got numerous other abilities, such as unlimited ammo. Then, ''Unlimited'' gave him the ability to create his own custom objects and apply adjectives to himself, making him nearly unstoppable. Finally, in ''Unmasked'', his health was vastly increased, he gained the ability to fight bare-handed ([[StoneWall though it's a weak method of attacking unless boosted with adjectives or costumes]]), and could wear costumes to further his strength, [[DiscardAndDraw at the cost of unlimited ammo and the ability to use extremely powerful adjectives or repeat words without punishment]].
* WellDoneSonGuy: If ''Unmasked'' is anything to go by, Maxwell has a fear of not being as good as his dad.

!!Doppelganger/[[spoiler:Alexander]]

Maxwell's evil double, who also wields a magical notebook. Rather than using it to help people like Maxwell, he uses it to cause chaos and destruction.
----
* AscendedExtra: From one-off appearance to [[spoiler:FinalBoss]] in the first two games...
** DemotedToExtra: ...Only to get just one "canon" appearance in ''Unlimited'' in the BigBoosHaunt level. And it's in a starite shard mission, too, and not one for a full starite. Un-demoted in ''Scribblenauts Unmasked'', where he's TheHeavy.
* DroppedABridgeOnHim
%%* EvilTwin
* FinalBoss: Of ''Super Scribblenauts''.
* HappilyAdopted: It is revealed in the ''Unmasked'' spin-off comic he was [[spoiler:adopted by Maxwell's parents and even gets his own name: Alexander, after UsefulNotes/AlexanderTheGreat]].
%%* TheHeavy: In ''Scribblenauts Unmasked''.
* HeelFaceTurn: [[spoiler:At the end of ''Scribblenauts Unmasked'']].
* KilledOffForReal: [[spoiler:At the end of ''Super Scribblenauts''. Maxwell can't even use potions to bring him back. He's summonable in ''Unlimited'', however. In addition, he returns as an antagonist in ''Unmasked''. This potentially indicates that ''Super Scribblenauts'' takes place after ''Unmasked'', granted that Doppelganger's HeelFaceTurn didn't stick]].
* PaletteSwap: He resembles Maxwell with an angry face and a switched-around color scheme.
* SdrawkcabName: Averted. Of all the possible synonyms for summoning him, typing this in just spawns a cartridge.
%%* SlasherSmile
* WeakButSkilled: In ''Scribblenauts Unmasked'', he said that his powers are relatively limited, his notebook being only limited to the single page that Maxwell created him from. He still poses quite a legitimate threat, though.

!!Lily

Maxwell's twin sister who first appears in ''Scribblenauts Unlimited''.
----
* AesopCollateralDamage: Gets turned to stone as a punishment for Maxwell giving the old man a rotten apple. Granted, she DID seem to find the idea amusing as well.
* DistaffCounterpart: Of Maxwell.
* {{Fangirl}}: Appears to be one for Batman, as she's asking for his autograph in ''Scribblenauts Unmasked''.
* {{Narrator}}: In ''Scribblenauts Unlimited'', she is explaining the story of Maxwell.
* PinkMeansFeminine: She's female and wears a pink rooster hat, unlike her other male siblings.
* TakenForGranite: She gets turned to stone in ''Scribblenauts Unlimited'', so Maxwell needs to use the starites to heal her.
* {{Teleportation}}: Her globe lets her teleport anywhere she wants.
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: In ''Unlimited'', nothing Maxwell summons can faze Lily...unless it's Medusa or a similar creature that causes petrification.

[[folder:5th Cell Members]]
!!Jeremiah Slaczka

The president of 5th Cell.
----
* CreatorCameo: He’s the president of the company that created the series.
* DistressedDude: [[spoiler:He gets kidnapped by Doppelganger in ''Super Scribblenauts''.]]
* DroppedABridgeOnHim: [[spoiler:He was in Doppelganger's spaceship when it exploded.]]
* HappilyMarried: With his wife, Kari.
* TookALevelInBadass: Once an ordinary man, he becomes one of the most powerful characters in ''Unmasked'', having strength and durability that can rival that of ''Parallax''.

!!Akio

A small samurai who helped make the game.
----
* {{BFS}}
* CreatorCameo
* PintsizedPowerhouse

!!Nathan Hernandez
A man in Stormtrooper armor who was an animator for the game.
----
* CreatorCameo
* MightyGlacier: Deals huge amounts of damage per hit and has vast amounts of health, but he moves at about the same speed as a normal human.
* SizeShifter: Give him anything to eat and he grows larger. Give him enough and he eventually becomes [[AttackOfTheFiftyFootWhatever Colossal]].

!!Edison Yan
A ''T. rex'' who wears a [[Franchise/StreetFighter Ryu-esque bandana]] who was an artist for the game.
----
* AxCrazy: Spawns hostile, unless modified to have the "friendly" adjective or a similar one.
* KamehameHadoken: Fittingly for the Ryu reference, Edy can shoot fireballs at any NPC too big for him to just eat. In ''Unlimited'', this was changed to a three-round burst of purple orb projectiles.
* OneHitKill: Eating you.
