A renowned detective assisting in investigating and analyzing serial killer ID-Wells. His real name is Akihito Narihisago, but during his time in ID-Wells he is referred to as the brilliant detective Sakaido. In the past he was once a happy family man with a daughter named Muku. Two years prior to the current events Muku was murdered by a serial killer nicknamed the Challenger, followed by Narihisago's wife committing suicide out of grief, leading Narihisago to kill the Challenger out of revenge. He is also the main protagonist of the series.
----
* AdaptationDyeJob: In the anime, he has green eyes, but in #BRAKE BROKEN manga, he has blue eyes.
* AffectionateNickname: He is called by "Aki" by his wife, Ayako.
* AntiHero: He is of the UnscrupulousHero type. He's a good guy at heart, but because of his tragic past, he's completely fine with being absolutely merciless to criminals. It's his deep connections with his family and friends that keep him from going outright insane.
* ArtisticLicenseLaw: Given the nature of the death of The Challenger, Narihisago could have pleaded down his charges or get off from them entirely. First of all, the Challenger killed his daughter and drive his wife to suicide. Some jurisdictions would allow you to plead temporary insanity. Second of all, it could be argued that the Challenger initiated the fight and Narihisago could claim self defense especially since there were no witnesses. Finally, the Challenger outright hints that there's a new victim waiting for him in the underground arena. This is something that the memory of the Challenger says which probably means this was the case in reality too. Most jurisdictions allow police officers to enter a property without a warrant if there's evidence that a crime is currently being committed [[note]]which is why suicide is a crime, allowing officers to rush in and save the victim[[/note]] which in this case is an active kidnapping situation. Again, this would allow Narihisago to claim self defense since he would be obligated to save the kidnap victim. More than likely, Narihisago would probably only be suspended at best and fired at worst, with maybe 3 to 5 years in prison or confined to a mental institution. The main problem is that the killing in reality had him shoot the Challenger unprompted.
* BadassNormal: Narihisago didn't need any special martial arts skills during his fight with The Challenger in the ID Well. [[spoiler:All he needed to do was cheat to win.]]
* BerserkButton:
** Never hurt anyone innocent or else Narihisago will show all the criminals responsible why he is the most feared detective out there.
** In ''#BRAKE BROKEN'', After Narihisago rejects [[spoiler:his wife’s ID well as Sakaido, his expression darkens and he intends to kill those responsible for leaving wakumushbi in the serial killer’s hands, break into his old home, and scan his wife’s cognition particles where she committed suicide. It is clear he doesn’t want to remember his regret over not stopping his wife’s suicide after their daughter’s death.]]
* BreakThemByTalking: Narihisago does this to The Pyrotechnician in episode 3. It's later said that it's not the first time and that it's actually a specialty that he's mastered. [[spoiler:It [[DrivenToSuicide drives The Pyrotechnician and other criminals to suicide]].]] The colleagues that he works with are wary of this, since even behind bars, Narihisago is still killing others, even if they are unrepentant killers.
* CombatPragmatist: He used a gun against the Challenger, who was expecting a fists-only fight.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: Muku, his only daughter was brutally beaten to death by the serial killer Challenger, and his wife [[spoiler: committed suicide right in front of him after said incident.]] [[RoaringRampageOfRevenge Avenging his daughter]] is what landed him in prison. His dark past haunts him even now, and it is not until [[spoiler: Episode 10 that he finally accepts their deaths and moves on.]]
* DespairEventHorizon: Muku's gruesome death was bad enough, [[spoiler: but Ayako's suicide was what finally pushed him over the edge.]]
* ExhaustedEyeBags: In the manga, he has bags under his eyes due to lack of sleep.
* FireForgedFriendship: [[spoiler:Narihisago and Hondomachi become good friends and partners at the end of the series.]]
* TheFriendNobodyLikes: Downplayed. Aside from Matsuoka, who’s also the only one in the series shown to truly hate him, and Momoki, as well as Hondomachi later on, both of whom still treat him with respect, the rest of Kura are at best neutral towards him for his murder of The Challenger.
* FriendOrIdolDecision: In episode 10, he has two choices to choose from: Find the true identity of John Walker with Hondomachi in Kiki's ID well or stay in Kiki's ID well where his wife and daughter are alive. He chose the former.
* FriendToAllChildren: Being a father himself, Narihisago is very kind and understanding towards younger characters.
* GoodOldFisticuffs: He knows some street brawling, which he uses against The Challenger while fighting him in Kiki's ID Well.
* HappilyMarried: He was married to his wife Ayako and they had a daughter named Muku. [[spoiler:Episode 10 shows that before Muku's death, he was practically the happiest man alive. [[GriefInducedSplit Muku's death ended up destroying his marriage slowly]] when Ayako blamed him for their daughter's demise, with the marriage ending quite shockingly when Ayako committed suicide.]]
* HiddenHeartOfGold: Underneath his cynical exterior, deep down, he is a laid-back and understanding individual who values the safety of the innocent and fights for what's right. He shows the qualities of a HumbleHero.
* IRejectYourReality: [[spoiler:After Narihisago spent two years in Kiki's ID well, he believes [[InTheDreamingStageOfGrief the events in the real world was a dream]] and Kiki's ID well is reality. When Hondomachi appears and tries to talk senses to him, he refuses to believe her. However, after she fully explained everything to him, he came back to his senses.]]
* MadeOfIron: [[spoiler:He managed to defeat The Challenger in the ID Well with a broken arm and injured face. He also survives a wound inflicted by Hayaseura when he was exposed.]]
* OutlivingOnesOffspring: His daughter, Muku was murdered by The Challenger three years ago.
* PapaWolf: He'll do anything for his wife and daughter. This also extends to younger characters and innocent people too.
* PayEvilUntoEvil: He isn't afraid of doing this to criminals. Just ask The Pyrotechnician, The Challenger, and The Facelifter.
* PermaStubble: He has a slight stubble on his chin.
* PistolWhipping: He proceeds to give pretty big smashes to The Challenger's face with the bottom of his weapon in their ID Well fight.
* PrecisionFStrike: In Episode 9, he says this to past version of The Challenger before they fight to the death in Kiki's ID Well.
-->'''Narihisago''': ''"You're a fucking pervert who got off beating a 14-year-old girl to death."''
* RoaringRampageOfRevenge: He brutally murdered The Challenger for killing his daughter. He gets a second chance to exact his revenge on The Challenger by fighting him face to face in Kiki's ID Well. [[spoiler:And he won, while enjoying every second of the fight.]] [[spoiler:He also gets his revenge on Hayaseura for staging the events of the story by sealing away his consciousness Uraido in his own ID Well Dogma.]]
* SerialKillerKiller: When Narihisago was in Kiki's well, he [[spoiler: continued to kill the other serial killers with induced suicide even after he took his revenge against the Challenger.]]
* TragicKeepsake: He has entire family photos of his wife and daughter as the memories of them in his cell.
* UncertainDoom: [[spoiler:After Hayaseura shot him in the stomach, it is unknown if his body will survive once he stop Hayaseura. In the series finale, he survived from his wounds and got treatment.]]
* UseYourHead: When he's fighting The Challenger in Kiki's ID Well, he gives The Challenger a good smash in the face with his head since his right arm was broken.
!!Sakaido
!!! '''Voiced by:''' Creator/KenjiroTsuda (Japanese), Creator/JoshGrelle (English)
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sakaido.png]]
A persona adopted by Akihito Narihisago whenever he enters id wells. The original "brilliant detective", he traverses the id wells of serial killers in an endless loop to try to uncover the truth behind the murder of Kaeru, and indirectly determine the identity of the id well's owner for Kura.
----
* BadassLongcoat: [[WordOfGod In an interview]], Sakaido's long coat and blazer is symbolizes [[spoiler: the desert in Narihisago's ID Well]].
* DigitalAvatar: His appearance is based on Narihisago in his prime when he used to be a working detective.
* FloatingLimbs: He started out with his body on a bed with parts floating in space while inside Fukuda's ID Well, but this proved to be helpful when he needed to reach for platforms to connect together to give him clues to Fukuda's location. This ability is only exclusive to Fukuda's case as he is seen complete and whole in later cases. [[spoiler:It does come back because the heroes tricked Uraido/John Walker into entering inside Fukuda's Well, where Sakaido uses his floating left hand to stop Uraido/John Walker from escaping.]]
* ImCryingButIDontKnowWhy: After Anaido ejected Sakaido from Kiki's Id Well, he cries a single tear from his left eye, but he doesn't know why. This is the result of [[spoiler:Narihisago letting go his wife and daughter and moving on with his life without them.]]
* ImpossiblyCoolClothes: Played with. The opening scene of the series (and the promotional art) makes it look like the series is going for this, based on the first we see of Narihisago and his outfit. It turns out the trope only applies to detectives' appearances in the Well. Outside, clothes are fairly standard, though there are still unrealistic hair colors.
* LastNameBasis: He is only referred to by his last name because he can't remember his full name.
* NonActionGuy: According to him, he's not a fighter, but he will try as the last result when he was seen fighting John Walker in episode 2. [[spoiler:And he uses his GoodOldFisticuff skills in an attempt to defeat Uraido/John Walker in the final episode.]]
* ScarfOfAsskicking: Along with his shoes, his long flowy scarf symbolises the [[spoiler: thunderbolts in Narihisago's ID Well]].

----

* BewareTheNiceOnes / DeadpanSnarker: With the emphasis on dead. This causes Inami to drop her EmotionlessGirl act.]] Koharu dryly comments that she did have feelings after all.

* PlatonicLifePartners: With Matsuoka. She doesn't have romantic feeling for him and she only sees him as her superior and ally.
* ParentalNeglect: It's implied that Hondoumachi's relationship with her mother isn't great since she didn't visit her in the hospital after she was almost killed by Fukuda. However, she wasn't mad or sad about her mother's absence.
* PrecisionFStrike: She rarely curses, but the only time she does when she calls Kazuta an asshole who was trying to murder her.
-->'''Hondomachi''': ''"There was no reason for Haruka Kazuta to kiss me. The urges to kill and to kiss have been interchanged in his unconscious. Hey! That means that asshole was trying to kill me!"''

* SpellMyNameWithAnS: Hondomachi/Hondoumachi.

----
* BadassAdorable: While wearing a cute looking detective outfit, she easily figures out a way to avoid the thunderstorm in Narihisago's ID Well.
* BrutalHonesty: When talking to Muku and Ayako in Narihisago's ID Well, she makes it very clear that she's only there to solve the mystery and nothing else.
