They can never escape their predicament and are forced to live an existence of pain and suffering. On top of that, Martin held complete control over them and has forced some of them to kill for him. And to make matters even more horrific, some of Martin's victims are children, including his own…
10	* BodyHorror: There is a ''ton'' of it in this series. After Martin killed his victims, the demon removed their skins and forced their bodies into Martin's toys, which sometimes resulted in the bodies becoming horribly deformed (ex. Arthur, who basically became a blob of flesh with a wide, gaping mouth in order to fill the Ice Cream Man costume). There are moments where the skinned corpses of the victims are visible through holes and cracks in their plastic and wooden bodies. Some of the victims have even managed to "escape" their new bodies...
11	** Sofia has a long grabber-like tongue that brings to mind the creatures of Franchise/{{Alien}}.
12	** The Puppeteer is a prime example of this trope, being a hulking mass of human flesh with sharp teeth and a deformed mouth. Its body is vaguely humanoid, but only just barely.
13	** Some of the deaths in the series are also quite brutal. Amy Wilson, who had her spine ripped out, and Nathan Barnes, a young boy who was found with his head facing backwards, come to mind. 17	* DemonicDummy: There are at least ten Henry dummies in this series who are possessed by people murdered by Martin. Martin's son, Thomas, is one of them. The identities of the remaining eight are unclear, but it's likely they're the victims of the "Eight Missing Persons" case first mentioned in "L0cal_13". 40	** A sillier, far more confused version of Martin starred in the April Fools special "[=FaMily=]_ReUnion". Martin can't remember anything that he's done to his family and proceeds to have a hilarious mental breakdown when the family confronts him.
41	* DealWithTheDevil: Martin made a deal with a Satanic figure in order to achieve his goals. It's unclear at this point if Martin bargained with the Devil himself, or just a demon. Whatever the case, Martin failed to uphold his end of the deal...and the demon got ''really'' angry.
42	* EstablishingCharacterMoment: Martin's first appearance in the series has him admit to Arthur that he deliberately ran over Banzo with his car, then turned the dog into a monster that will obey him without question. The scene ends with Martin murdering his own brother with a handgun, and shortly afterwards it's revealed that Arthur became another one of Martin's pawns.
43	* EvilLaugh: Martin gives one should the viewer choose the "Kill" ending of "_Rebirth_" and Banzo goes through with killing Ava, which means Martin has succeeded in turning his dog into a monster.

It's worth noting that in both cases, they were killed by their ''own creations''.

Even his cartoon counterpart, the Toymaker, has a bit of a clown motif. The clown theme symbolizes the absurdity of Martin's logic and how, instead of becoming the successful toymaker he dreamed of being, he has instead become a "fool".

This shows that Arthur was willing to give Martin a chance to redeem himself so he could be reunited with his family in the future.

He chose to give Martin a chance instead of calling the police and turning him in. Even after his brother horribly betrayed him, killing him and stuffing him inside an ice cream costume, it doesn't seem as though Arthur desires any sort of revenge against Martin, although he knows he has to be stopped.
