!!Leywin Family
The family that King Grey finds himself reborn to as Arthur Leywin.

For Arthur himself, see his [[Characters/TheBeginningAfterTheEndArthurLeywin separate character page]].

[[folder:In General]]
* ActionSurvivor: They get put through absolute hell during the WarArc and afterward, but manage to come out tempered by the crucible and are stronger for it.
* BadassFamily: All of them are Badass[=es=] in one respect or another. Other than Arthur and his own credentials, Reynolds used to be a famous adventurer and later on became the instructor for the guards at the Helstea Auction House, Alice was also an adventurer turned medic turned ActionSurvivor, and Eleanor, also an ActionSurvivor, has become a skilled archer with her own [[spoiler:djinn magic, Alacryan regalia, and asuran-given bond and EmpathicWeapon]].
* BigDamnReunion: Happens thrice with Arthur after he gets separated from them.
** The first time occurs when Arthur returns to his family after spending three years in Elenoir with the Eraliths after he got separated from them following a bandit ambush, though Arthur had let them know much earlier that he survived thanks to Rinia letting him contact them. Upon arriving at Helstea Manor, Arthur meets his sister Eleanor for the first time, then his mother sees him and tearfully embraces him, followed by his father running from outside to do the same upon hearing the news of his son's return.
** The second time occurs when Arthur returns to Dicathen after spending two years in Epheotus training for the impending Alacryan invasion. After reuniting with Tessia, the Twin Horns, and Virion and Aldir, the latter two take him to the Council Castle where he reunites with his family. Arthur is surprised to see they are more accepting of him now, especially after he had parted coldly from them by revealing of his reincarnation. He even gets to meet Eleanor's bond Boo for the first time.
** The third time occurs when [[spoiler:Arthur is finally able to return back home to Dicathen after spending a year living incognito in Alacrya. He returns right as Taci, who had been sent by Kezess to purge the Dicathian resistance, was about to kill both Alice and Eleanor on the spot just to spite him. Arthur has Regis heal Eleanor while he takes Taci back into the Relictombs to finish him off, and then afterwards finally getting to properly reunite with the two of them]].
* GoodParents: Reynolds and Alice are incredibly caring and supportive of their two children.
* HappilyMarried: Reynolds and Alice have a stable and loving marriage.
* HonoraryUncle: Elijah views Reynolds and Alice as his surrogate uncle and aunt after Arthur takes him to live with his family, especially since he had never known any ParentalSubstitute[=s=] other than Rahdeas.
* LockedOutOfTheLoop: Arthur kept his reincarnation secret from his family for years. It was not until he was 13, when he had to leave them in order to train in Epheotus for the impending Alacryan invasion, that he decided to come clean to them about it in order to remove the burden from himself. To say that they did not take it very well at first is an understatement.
* MeetTheInLaws: In Volume 3, after Arthur gets hospitalized following him TakingTheBullet for Tessia in their Team-Fighting Mechanics class, he wakes up to find his family tending to him. Then Tessia and her family visit him, causing his family to meet the Eraliths for the first time.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: When Arthur comes clean to his parents about his reincarnation before he leaves for Epheotus, his parents are naturally unable to accept the truth and are horrified about it. It results in their parting being far less amicable and turning out downright cold instead, especially since Alice calls Arthur "sick" and Arthur slips up by addressing Reynolds by his name rather than as his father. After Arthur leaves, his parents immediately come to regret how they handled themselves in front of their son and vow to make up with him when he returns.
* TargetedToHurtTheHero: Arthur's family being potential targets for his enemies ends up being brought up quite a lot throughout the novel.
** In the aftermath of the attack on Xyrus Academy, Alduin sends his father Virion to escort the Leywins to Rinia's abode to protect them from the danger that their current situation poses to them. After Arthur is acquitted of the KangarooCourt and leaves to train in Epheotus, Aldir has the Leywins move into the Council Castle for further protection from any assassins sent by the Vritra with Virion telling Reynolds not to rejoin the war until either Arthur returns or Eleanor gets older. When Arthur does return for the ensuing WarArc and learns that his parents will rejoin the war after [[spoiler:Adam's death]], Arthur's parents call him out on being overprotective of them and insisting they stay behind for their protection when he himself will end up being on the frontlines as one of the Lances.
** During Agrona's conversation with Arthur at the end of Volume 6, he reveals that Arthur's parents only survived a recent attack because he willed it to, and that he could just as easily rescind that mercy. He offers Arthur a deal to sit out the war if he wants his loved ones to be safe. Arthur ultimately refuses.
** In the midst of [[spoiler:his rampage in the djinn sanctuary, Taci recognizes Alice and Eleanor as Arthur's family. Given his own hatred of Arthur from their time training in Epheotus, the only regret Taci has on his mind at that moment is that Arthur isn't here to face him as he readies himself for the killing blow. Fortunately, Arthur arrives in the nick of time to put the asura down]].
** When [[spoiler:Agrona gives out his final order and forces Seris and those who followed her in her rebellion back to his side, he takes control of Caera - who had been invited by Eleanor to dinner - to kill Alice and Eleanor. Fortunately, Eleanor is able to BeatTheCurseOutOfHer]].
* SecretKeeper: While they were shocked to hear of Arthur's reincarnation, after having the time to accept the truth they agree to keep it secret once he returns from his training from Epheotus.
* TearsOfJoy: Whenever they reunite with one another in light of tragic circumstances, the Leywins are prone to crying tears of happiness out of being reunited.
* TraumaCongaLine: Just like Arthur, the Leywins get run through absolute hell during the WarArc and onward. [[spoiler:After Arthur returns from Epheotus, they hear word that their old comrade Adam got killed by mana beasts in the same dungeon Arthur had just been to, causing them to rejoin the Twin Horns and leaving Eleanor behind in the Council Castle. Then Reynolds gets killed during the attack on the Wall, traumatizing the family. And then Arthur and Sylvie are presumed dead following another catastrophic battle, with Alice and Eleanor being forced into hiding from the victorious Alacryans. Then when Kezess sends Taci to purge the Dicathian resistance, he recognizes Alice and Eleanor as Arthur's family and was about to kill them without any remorse just out of spite for Arthur when the latter finally returns home from Alacrya to stop him]].
* WoobieFamily: As of Volume 10, [[spoiler: while only Reynolds has died, that isn't to say that the remaining family members have experienced multiple brushes with death. On top of that, they have had to contend with losing the war, watching their homeland be conquered, and being forced into hiding while presuming that Arthur had died at the end of the war. As for Arthur's issues, he has to deal with his own guilt over not being able to protect the people he cares about (and in some cases as seen with the Eraliths inadvertently endangered them), elements from his past life coming back to haunt him in his current one, and how he now has to stand up against the JerkassGods who have lorded over the setting]].

[[folder:Reynolds Leywin]]
!!Reynolds Leywin
!!!'''Debut:''' Volume 1 (Novel), Chapter 1 (Webcomic)
->"''Everyone has their own battle that they need to fight. And just like your mother, I'll be here for you, waiting to come out victorious. Life isn't a single battle, Arthur, so it's okay to get beat up sometimes. Just stand back up, learn from it, and get stronger from it so you can win the war.''"

Arthur's father, Reynolds is a former adventurer who was once the leader of the Twin Horns, a famous band of adventurers. Eventually, Reynolds left the group to settle down with his wife and fellow member Alice. After Arthur demonstrates his magic, he elects to move his family to Xyrus, in the process taking up a job offer from his old friend Vincent as the captain of the guards for the Helstea Auction House.
----
* ActionDad: He used to be an adventurer before he settled down with Alice. Even after becoming a FamilyMan, he still keeps his combat skills sharp as a member of Vincent's security force, eventually becoming their captain. And when he and his wife rejoin the Twin Horns for the WarArc, he ends up fighting on the frontlines.
* BareFistedMonk: His fighting style involves the use of gauntlets.
* BeardOfSorrow: {{Subverted}}. After being separated from his son while on the way to Xyrus, Reynolds is next seen having grown stubble on his face out of grief over losing him. Even though Arthur lets her parents know by way of a telepathic message from Rinia that he is still alive and before eventually reuniting with his family years later, Reynolds does not shave his face and ends up growing a full beard over the course of the next few years.
* [[spoiler:DroppedABridgeOnHim]]: [[spoiler:Dies while fighting off the horde of Alacryan mana beasts at the Wall]].
* [[spoiler:DueToTheDead]]: [[spoiler:After his death, his body is cremated]].
* ElementalPunch: Considering his elemental affinity in fire magic and his weapon of choice being gauntlets, Reynolds's fighting style revolves around him hitting his opponents with fiery punches.
* {{Expy}}: Given the novel's inspiration from ''Literature/MushokuTensei'', Reynolds is based on Paul Greyrat. Both are martial fathers to the protagonist, were former adventurers who used to have ties with nobility, led a famous adventuring party before settling down in a rural home, and years later [[spoiler:are killed off during an encounter with monsters which sends their son into a HeroicBSOD]].
* FamilyMan: Is loyal to his family without a fault.
* HenpeckedHusband: His more relaxed and childish personality made him frequently come to rather dangerous decisions regarding Arthur's wellbeing and that led him to become target of his wife's ire.
* HiddenDepths: Despite having a relaxed personality at first, Reynolds is revealed to have a deeply understanding side of his character that paints him as much wiser than he normally acts. This is best shown when he talks to Arthur about why his mother does not use her healing magic for major wounds, in the process telling his son that his mother has her own battles to fight just like him, and more importantly as a FamilyMan Reynolds will be there every step of the way to support his loved ones.
* TheLeader: Used to be the leader of the Twin Horns before he settled down with Alice. Later on he becomes the captain for the guards of the Helstea Auction House.
* NotInFrontOfTheKid: He accidentally swears in front of Eleanor when he learns how much his son's mana core has grown. He attempts to correct her behavior, but it sticks with her for quite some time.
* PlayingWithFire: His elemental affinity is in fire magic.
* RetiredBadass: As the former leader of the Twin Horns, Reynolds was once a famous adventurer and skilled combatant before he settled down in the countryside with Alice. However, he and his wife are drawn out of retirement to rejoin the Twin Horns due to the Alacryan invasion, specifically once Arthur returns from Epheotus and [[spoiler:Adam's death]].
* SensitiveGuyAndManlyMan: Exhibits this dynamic with Vincent. Vincent is a NonActionGuy and {{Muggle}}, while Reynolds is a former adventurer and mage whom he had hired to join his security force.
* TimePassageBeard: Grows out his facial hair from stubble to a short beard during the two years Arthur was adventuring with Jasmine, and then grows it out even more in the two years Arthur was training in Epheotus.
* VirtuousCharacterCopy: To [[Literature/MushokuTenseiJoblessReincarnation Paul Greyrat]]. Both are former adventurers who used to have ties with nobility, led a famous adventuring party before settling down in a rural home, became the father to a ReincarnateInAnotherWorld {{Isekai}} protagonist, and [[spoiler:are killed off which sends their son into a HeroicBSOD]]. However, Paul is a ''very'' flawed man who exhibits a lot of vices. After his son got into a fight with bullies to save his childhood friend, Paul hit his own son and took the bullies' side without letting his son explain himself. More jarringly, he exhibits the same sexual proclivities that his son has to a far worse extent. In the past, he forced himself onto the woman who would become his maid and later on cheats on his wife with her. Suffice to say, Reynolds never does anything that low, as he is an uptight and moral man who cares about his family.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Alice Leywin]]
!!Alice Leywin
!!!'''Debut:''' Volume 1 (Novel), Chapter 1 (Webcomic)
->"''I'll skip the part of the worried mother this time. I'm just glad that you're back in one piece.''"

Arthur's mother, Alice is a former adventurer who was once a member of the Twin Horns, a famous band of adventurers. Eventually, she left the group to settle down with her husband, the group's former leader Reynolds.
----
* ActionMom: {{Downplayed}} compared to her husband. While Alice used to an adventurer herself having met Reynolds when they were both part of the Twin Horns, she was their SupportPartyMember and healer. That isn't to say she picked up the same tenacity and determination that the rest of her colleagues possessed.
* AlmightyMom: Despite her husband and son being much more magically gifted and trained than her, both of them have to bow to her will.
* ComicalOverreacting: When Arthur tells his family about how he ended up getting hospitalized on his first day of school, Alice's face bears a vacant-stared shocked expression as she presumes Arthur burnt another student alive which would force the Leywins to move to Darv to avoid the repercussions. She gets broken out of it when Director Goodsky comes into the infirmary with the Eraliths to clear up the misunderstanding.
* DrivenToSuicide: A flashback shows that after they lost Arthur, the Twin Horns are seen bandaging her wrist with a bloody knife next to her.
* TheEveryman: She is the character that the series has who behaves the closest to any normal person.
* {{Expy}}: Given the novel's inspiration from ''Literature/MushokuTensei'', Alice is based on Zenith Greyrat. Both are the gentle {{Housewife}} mother to the main protagonist who possess healing magic and [[spoiler:end up outliving their husband following a tragic incident]].
* GenocideSurvivor: It is revealed by Rinia that Alice [[spoiler:is a descendant of the djinn. In the distant past, the djinn were the victims of a genocide perpetrated by the Indrath Clan when they refused to share their knowledge of aether with them]].
* HealingHands: As a emitter, Alice has the unique capability for healing magic.
* HeroicBSOD: Suffers it multiple times. [[spoiler: First after Arthur's reincarnation is revealed, then after Reynolds's death, then after Arthur's apparent death even though later Arthur returns]].
* {{Housewife}}: Both before and after the Leywins move to Xyrus, Alice stays in the house to raise both of her children.
* ILetGwenStacyDie: In the past, the Twin Horns got ambushed by stingers and while Alice was able to mend their wounds, the party had to get treated for poison afterwards. While most of the party recovered, one member, Lensa, ended up losing her mana core as Alice closing her wounds prevented the doctor from treating Lensa's core. As a result, Lensa ended up being DrivenToSuicide. The fact that she had not only robbed Lensa of her only joy in life but indirectly caused her death left a considerable scar on Alice, being the the reason why she refuses to use her healing magic for anything more than minor wounds.
* ImperiledInPregnancy: Let's just say being caught up in a bandit ambush while traveling on a mountain is not the best place for a pregnant woman to be. Not only does she end up in the line of fire, but her firstborn son ends up TakingTheBullet for her and getting knocked off the face of the mountain. Alice is left distraught over the turn of events, and she nearly ends her own life were it not for the Twin Horns saving her.
* InterruptedSuicide: The Twin Horns were able to save her after she attempted to slit her wrists when she thought her son was dead.
* IShouldWriteABookAboutThis: She mentions that after the war is over, she should write a book about Arthur's exploits.
* TheMedic: Her main deviant magic power is healing and during the WarArc she serves as a medic on the frontlines given the rarity of emitters.
* MyGreatestFailure: Alice never uses her healing magic for anything other than minor wounds because she inadvertently caused the death of a party member as a consequence of her powers. That party member, Lensa, had been poisoned by mana beasts, and ended up losing her mana core was Alice healing her injuries prevented the doctors from treating her core. Lensa wound up walking into a high risk dungeon and never returned. It is not until after Arthur leaves for Epheotus coupled with Rinia helping her out that causes Alice to finally break her self-imposed block. This proves timely as she and Reynolds eventually decide to join the war and she needs to use the full extent of her powers as a medic.
* MustMakeAmends: [[spoiler:She decides to finally accept Arthur's past life after he returns from Alacrya]].
* ParentsKnowTheirChildren: When [[spoiler:Arthur returns from Alacrya, Alice does not recognize him at first due to how much because he looks much older and his hair and eye colors have changed after becoming half-asura thanks to Sylvie's HeroicSacrifice. As she takes a closer look at his face she starts recognizing the familiarity about him, but it is when Arthur smiles that she finally recognizes him as her son]].
-->'''Alice:''' He smiled, and it was like a bolt of lightning ran through me. That smile..I never thought I'd see it again. It was [[spoiler:Reynolds's]] smile, and it both lit and softened the man's face, letting the truth shine from so bright and warm that the icy barrier I'd been building around myself melted away.
* ShipperOnDeck: When she meets Tessia for the first time, she states she is glad her son has a responsible friend now... and in the future. In response, Tessia's face turns bright red with embarrassment.
* StrugglingSingleMother: PlayedWith. [[spoiler:After Reynolds's death in the war, Alice becomes the sole caretaker of her children, soon reduced to just Eleanor following Arthur's apparent death. Naturally the grief over losing both her husband and son affects her greatly, not helped by the fact she and Eleanor are forced into hiding in the djinn sanctuary from the victorious Alacryans. However, after Arthur returns from Alacrya and liberates Dicathen her mood and living situation does improve]].
* SuperpowerfulGenetics: It turns out that her deviant emitter magic [[spoiler:stems from her side of the family being descended from the long-extinct djinn. She passed that unique affinity down to both of her children]].
* SupportPartyMember: Served this role on the Twin Horns as their healer.
* WhiteMage: Given her healing magic, Alice served this role on the Twin Horns as the main healer.

[[folder:Eleanor Leywin]]
!!Eleanor Leywin
!!!'''Debut:''' Volume 1 (Novel), Chapter 29 (Webcomic)
->"''I'm a Leywin. My brother and I both had to mature fast. I'm ready for this.''"

Arthur's younger sister, Eleanor was born while Arthur was living in Elenoir with the Eraliths, with the two not meeting until the latter was finally able to return home.
----
* ActionSurvivor: Despite her age, Eleanor keeps finding herself in rather dangerous situations and barely getting out of them unscathed. She [[spoiler:accompanies Tessia on her ill-fated return to Elenoir, giving her a front row seat to her being turned into the Legacy's vessel and would have been gotten killed when Aldir destroyed the kingdom with the World Eater technique were it not for the phoenix wyrm pendant that she had received from Arthur years ago. Later on, when Kezess orders the purge of the Dicathian resistance, Eleanor along with her mother Alice were about to be killed by Taci before Arthur's timely intervention]].
* AffectionateNickname: She is affectionately referred to as either "Ellie" or "El".
* AndCallHimGeorge: When she [[spoiler:reunites with Sylvie following the latter's resurrection, Eleanor gives her a crushing hug that nearly suffocates her]].
* AnnoyingYoungerSibling: Eleanor sometimes likes to tease her older brother.
* ArmorPiercingQuestion: [[spoiler:Gives a scathing one to Tessia in Volume 8 as she calls her out for her NiceJobBreakingItHero moment in the last volume that got her brother seemingly killed]].
-->'''Eleanor:''' [[spoiler:It's your fault he's gone. You know that, right]]?
* TheBeastmaster: After Arthur leaves his family to train in Epheotus, Windsom gives them an infant guardian beast as a parting gift. While Arthur's father Reynolds wanted to bond with it, the creature ends up bonding with Eleanor instead and she ends up calling it Boo. She ends up being more apt as a beast tamer than anyone even expected as she completed the assimilation phase on her own. Windsom is taken by surprise by her progress, as he says he planned to return to her in order to assist her assimilation with Boo.
* BeatTheCurseOutOfHim: When [[spoiler:Agrona takes control of Seris and her rebellion in order to force them back to his side as he invades Epheotus, he also takes control of Caera - who had been invited by Eleanor for dinner - to kill Arthur's family. While Caera tries to fight off his control, Eleanor has Boo restrain her as she purges her of the corruption]].
* BeyondTheImpossible: Despite having not having undergone the [[spoiler:Alacryan bestowal system before and never having received a mark, Eleanor ends up getting a regalia (the highest mark possible) bestowed upon her, on top of also getting her mana core pushed into the light yellow stage as well. Lyra even remarks that what just happened to Eleanor would be normally impossible in regular circumstances]].
* BigBrotherAttraction: She doesn't like it when she sees her brother with other girls.
* BigBrotherWorship: Despite her teasing, Eleanor idolizes Arthur.
* BrattyHalfPint: Eleanor exhibits a rather bratty behavior in her youth. Though she eventually mellows out as she matures.
* BrotherSisterTeam: [[spoiler:After Arthur returns to Dicathen, he starts bringing Eleanor along with him when he enters the Relictombs. As the Leywins are descended from the djinn, Arthur hopes to unlock some of that latent magical potential within his sister. Eleanor accompanies Arthur and his party when they enter the Relictombs to join up with Seris and her rebellion, as not only has she unlocked her own distinct form of djinn magic but she has been chosen by [[ForgedByTheGods Silverlight]] to wield it after the death of its former wielder Aldir]].
* ChekhovsGun: Before he left to attend Xyrus Academy, Arthur gave Alice and Eleanor a pair of phoenix wyrm pendants that he had requisitioned from Gideon to protect them in the event that either he or Reynolds were not around. While Alice has yet to use hers, Eleanor does end up using hers [[spoiler:to escape the destruction of Elenoir by Aldir using the World Eater technique]].
* ChildSoldiers: The Just Plain Tragic Type. By the time her brother Arthur returns to Dicathen in time for the start of the Alacryan invasion, Eleanor is 11 years old. She undergoes extensive training while living in the Council Castle in order to prepare herself should the the war turn south for the Dicathians. [[spoiler:Which it does, and she and much of her remaining friends and family are forced into hiding, on top of presuming that her brother died in one of the last battles of the war. Later on, she accompanies Tessia on a mission back to Elenoir and gets a front row seat to her being possessed by the Legacy and the ensuing destruction of the kingdom at the hands of Aldir using the World Eater technique]].
** Eventually she becomes an example of the Precociously Talented Type. During [[spoiler:the mission to Elenoir, Eleanor is able to kill Bivran, a Retainer in training. After Arthur returns to Dicathen a year later, Eleanor TookALevelInBadass as she unlocks her latent djinn magic and acquires both an Alacryan regalia (which not only pushes her core into the light yellow stage, the phase below silver, but allows her to perform mana transfer) and an asuran EmpathicWeapon, on top of already having an asuran-granted bond from before the war started that she was able to bond with on her own]].
* CoolBigSis: [[spoiler:After Sylvie gains the ability to assume human form, Eleanor begins styling herself as Sylvie's big sister and wants to take her in as her own protégé. Though given that by now Sylvie perceives Arthur as her father, Eleanor would actually be her CoolAunt instead]].
* DadsOffFightingInTheWar: During the WarArc, Eleanor is practically left on her own in the Council Castle, as both of her parents have rejoined the Twin Horns to partake in the war. Her older brother Arthur ends up being PromotedToParent as a result, and he is only there part of the time for as one of the Lances, Arthur is assigned some of the most pivotal and dangerous missions of the war.
* EmpathicWeapon: [[spoiler:Was chosen by Silverlight to wield it after the death of its previous wielder Aldir]].
* ExactEavesdropping: She eavesdrops on a very private conversation between [[spoiler:Virion and Windsom (whom she recognizes from his voice) revealing the asuras' role in destroying Elenoir and their ensuing deception of it to the Dicathians, their offer of new [[ArtifactOfPower Artifacts of Power]] to the resistance, and Tessia being possessed by the Legacy; while Eleanor had witnessed her possession in person, she was LockedOutOfTheLoop as to what was actually happening until now. The conversation abruptly ends when Windsom notices her eavesdropping and confronts her. However, the shock over what she had overheard causes her to visit Rinia, and afterwards is what gets Feyrith and Albold to recruit her into their plan to expose the asuras' deception]].
* {{Expy}}: Given the novel's inspiration from ''Literature/MushokuTensei'', Eleanor is based on Norn Greyrat. Both are the little sister to the main protagonist who was born after they left home and only meet for the first time years later, as well as to whom they become a BigBrotherMentor towards.
* FightingYourFriend: During the [[spoiler:second Siege of Vildorial, Eleanor ends up facing off against Arthur's students from Central Academy, whom she had met earlier when he brought her with him to Alacrya and have now been forced to rejoin Agrona along with the rest of Seris's rebellion on the pain of death]].
* ForgedByTheGods: [[spoiler:Wields Silverlight after the death of Aldir]].
* FromTheMouthsOfBabes: After Arthur reunites with his family and thus meets Eleanor, he tells his dad that he is now at the light red stage which causes his father to yell "Holy shit!" in response. Eleanor, who at this point is a three-year old who does not know any better, immediately proceeds to repeat that word. This carries over as she grows up, as she is prone to swearing at times.
* GenocideSurvivor: She learns from Rinia [[spoiler:following Arthur's disappearance that she and their family are descendants of the djinn through their mother Alice. In the distant past, the djinn were the victims of a genocide perpetrated by the Indrath Clan when they refused to share their knowledge of aether with them. She ends up surviving a few more genocides orchestrated by the Indrath. She is there when Aldir completely obliterates Elenoir with the World Eater technique and would have ended up a casualty were it not for her phoenix wyrm pendant. Then, when Taci is sent to purge the Dicathian resistance, Eleanor was about to be killed by the asura out of his own personal grudge towards Arthur with her only being saved by Arthur's timely return from Alacrya]].
* GirlishPigtails: She exhibited this hairstyle as a toddler. As she grew up she lets them grow even longer.
* GuysSmashGirlsShoot: With her brother Arthur. He excels in swordplay and close combat, she prefers to fight at range with a bow.
* HealingHands: Like her mother Alice, Eleanor develops the ability to heal, an ability derived from their shared [[spoiler:djinn ancestry]].
* ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice: [[spoiler:Taci impales her with his spear, but thanks to Arthur's timely arrival Eleanor is saved from near death as her brother has Regis heal her]].
* KidnappedByAnAlly: After [[spoiler:visiting Rinia to get some closure after she overheard the conversation between Virion and Windsom, Eleanor gets kidnapped by Feyrith and Albold who want to expose the asuras' deception and learn what she knows given what she has been in contact with both Rinia and Windsom]].
* LivingBattery: [[spoiler:With her newfound ability to perform mana transfter after getting her regalia, Eleanor is able to act as a walking mana battery]].
* LockedOutOfTheLoop: [[spoiler:She has absolutely no idea what she saw happen to Tessia during the mission to Elenoir, though after eavesdropping on a private conversation between Virion and Windsom she learns that Tessia had been possessed by a reincarnate much like her brother]].
* ManaDrain: After [[spoiler:getting her regalia, Eleanor is able to perform mana transfer]].
* MageMarksman: The Arcane Archer Type. Eleanor is a mage who wields a bow and can enchant her arrows with pure mana.
* NearDeathExperience: [[spoiler:She gets a front row seat to Aldir destroying all of Elenoir with the World Eater technique, and would have ended up one of the innumerable casualties were it not for her phoenix wyrm pendant. Later on, she gets impaled by Taci out of spite towards her brother, but is saved by Arthur who arrives right as the asura lands the killing blow and has Regis heal her injury]].
* NextTierPowerUp: Eleanor ends up receiving [[spoiler:a regalia, the highest tier of mark in the Alacryan mana system. It also pushes her core into from the dark orange stage into the light yellow stage]].
* NonElemental: A rarity among mages, Eleanor is a uniquely non-elemental caster as the mana she uses for her spells is entirely pure. It plays a key factor in [[spoiler:her being able to receive a regalia]].
* RedeemingReplacement: PlayedWith, namely in regards to who she became the replacement of. [[spoiler:Aldir - while a TokenHeroicOrc who eventually turned against Kezess - was still instrumental in carrying out the many atrocities that his master ordered, in particular the destruction of Elenoir which Eleanor herself barely escaped from. Before Aldir sacrificed himself to resurrect Sylvie, he bequeathed his weapon Silverlight to Arthur. When Arthur presented the weapon to his allies, it immediately chose Eleanor as its next wielder]].
* SacredBowAndArrows: [[spoiler:When the asuran EmpathicWeapon Silverlight chooses her as its next wielder, it changes into a bow to match her fighting style]].
* SecretKeeper: [[spoiler:When Arthur enacts his plan to acquire the final keystone, Eleanor is one of ''two'' individuals (the other being Wren) other than his own bonds to know of his true location, as he has keeping everyone else LockedOutOfTheLoop on the true nature of his plan to prevent Agrona from compromising it]].
* SuperpowerfulGenetics: Being a descendant of [[spoiler:the djinn means Eleanor has the capacity for their unique magic, including potentially their aether arts]].
* SuperpowerLottery: {{Downplayed}} compared to other examples of this trope in the novel. Because she is Arthur's sister, Eleanor gets a unique array of powers due to her connection to him that no other mage could ever hope to get. [[spoiler:From her mother Alice, she inherited the unique magic of the djinn which she eventually does awaken. Then after her brother leaves for Epheotus, she bonds with a guardian beast given to her family by Windsom and acquires her own beast will. Following her brother's return from Alacrya and reconquest of their homeland, she acquires an Alacryan regalia. And for the cherry on top, she gets to wield Silverlight, the EmpathicWeapon once wielded by the asuran general Aldir whom had passed it on to Arthur before his HeroicSacrifice]].
* SupportPartyMember: After [[spoiler:acquiring her regalia, Eleanor is able to function in this fashion as her ability to perform mana transfer not only allows her to ManaDrain her opponents but use her stored mana to refuel her allies' mana reserves. Effectively, she becomes a walking mana battery]].
* TookALevelInBadass: By Volume 11, Eleanor [[spoiler:unlocks her latent djinn magic thanks to Rinia and later Arthur's tutelage, acquires an Alacryan regalia that pushes her core into the light yellow stage (the phase below silver, which in context puts her right below Arthur and Tessia at the start of the WarArc and Virion) and gets tutored by Lyra on how to use it to perform mana transfer, and is chosen by the asuran EmpathicWeapon Silverlight following the death of Aldir]].
* WreckedWeapon: During [[spoiler:the ill-fated mission to Elenoir, Eleanor ends up breaking the bow Tessia had given her for her eighth birthday]].
* WrestlerInAllOfUs: She elbow drops her brother awake.

!!Vincent Helstea
!!!'''Debut:''' Volume 1 (Novel), Chapter 30 (Webcomic)
An old friend of Reynolds, Vincent is one of the most prolific merchants in Sapin. He gives the Leywin Family a place to stay at in Xyrus in return for Reynolds joining his security force as its new captain.
----
* TheAlcoholic: Vincent is prone to drinking which leads to him acting in a rather embarrassing fashion at times, much to his daughter Lilia's chagrin.
* AmazinglyEmbarrassingParents: Suffice to say, Vincent getting drunk leads to him doing some rather embarrassing antics much to the chagrin of his wife and daughter.
* TheBusCameBack: After Volume 4, Vincent does not return until Volume 10 when [[spoiler:Arthur retakes Xyrus]].
* EarlyBirdCameo: In the novel, the Helsteas are properly introduced when Reynolds and Alice arrive in Xyrus. In the {{Webcomic}}, their appearance here is instead treated more as a cameo as they go completely unnamed and none of their faces are visible during the Leywins' arrival, with them only being properly introduced when Arthur reunites with his family years later.
* HonoraryUncle: Is viewed as one by Arthur, Eleanor, and Elijah.
* LovableCoward: Has shades of this in that he does not like to fight at all. When Arthur intervenes to stop a group of racist human students from beating up a dwarf, Vincent gets cowered by his KillingIntent and lets him do as he please with them.
* NonActionGuy: Vincent is not a fighter and is afraid of direct confrontation.
* SensitiveGuyAndManlyMan: Exhibits this dynamic with Reynolds. Vincent is a NonActionGuy and {{Muggle}}, while Reynolds is a former adventurer and mage whom he had hired to join his security force.
* TheSocialExpert: Considering his skill as a merchant and negotiator, Vincent has quite the social experience and more importantly a wide array of connections to various high-ranking individuals across Sapin. He uses his connections to introduce Arthur and his family to some important individuals such as House Glayder themselves and later on Gideon.
* SmartPeopleWearGlasses: Vincent wears glasses, a sign of the intelligence he has needed to succeed as a merchant.
* TheTeamBenefactor: Due to his wealth and influence, Vincent is able to get Arthur into exclusive contact with high-ranking individuals such as Director Goodsky and Gideon and acquire for him specific artifacts that he needs. During the WarArc, he uses his resources to aid the overall war effort.
* TimePassageBeard: His goatee grows out into a full beard in the two year interval Arthur spent training in Epheotus, probably out of the strain of managing the wartime economy for Dicathen.
* UnclePennybags: While Vincent is one of the richest men in Sapin, he is an affable individual.
* WackyParentSeriousChild: Vincent can be rather eccentric (especially while under the influence) which contrasts with Lilia's serious personality.

* HonoraryAunt: Is viewed as one by Arthur, Eleanor, and Elijah.
* {{Housewife}}: Just like Alice, Tabitha is content to remain in Helstea Manor while her husband is off on his business ventures.
* {{Socialite}}: Tabitha has a cultured and ostentatious lifestyle as the wife of one of the most prolific merchants in Sapin. Like her husband, she uses her social influence and network of connections to introduce Arthur and his family to new opportunities.
* TheTeamBenefactor: While her husband might be the one responsible for the family's wealth, Tabitha has been known to leverage the family name in order to get Arthur unique opportunities.

The daughter of Vincent and Tabitha Helstea. She acts as the Secretary of the Xyrus Academy Student Council.
----
* ArmorPiercingQuestion: After [[spoiler:earning the respect of Anakasha, who had previously dismissed her desire to live, Lilia calls her out for their kind's lack of regard for the lives of those caught up in their war]].
-->'''Lilia:''' Was it worth it? Have you even found what you wanted?
* BodyHorror: [[spoiler:Her right hand gets much of its skin burnt off during the battle between the dragons and the Wraiths. Seeing her injuries causes Arthur to feel guilt over not being able to protect the woman he considered a sister]].
* BystanderActionHorrorDissonance: In Volume 11, [[spoiler:Lilia is leading a group of refugees when they get accosted by Perhata and her Wraiths, who take them hostage while they wait for another group of Wraiths to extract them with Oludari in tow. In the process, Lilia watches people she knew such as Diane and Jarrod die at their hands. When Arthur, his bonds, and a squadron of dragons arrive to capture Oludari, Lilia finds herself caught up in a cataclysmic warzone between PhysicalGods who are very much out of her league. In spite of the harrowing odds, she chooses to reenter the warzone in order to find any survivors and bring them to safety, in the process witnessing the carnage unfold around her]].
* TheBusCameBack: After the attack on Xyrus Academy at the end of Volume 4, Lilia disappears from the story. Other than her starring role in Volume 8.5, Lilia does not make her proper return until Volume 10 when [[spoiler:she and her father reunite with Arthur when the latter retakes Xyrus]].
* ADayInTheLimelight: She is one of the four leads of the {{Interquel}} novel, Volume 8.5.
* {{Determinator}}: After [[spoiler:the refugee caravan she was escorting gets caught up in a battle between the Wraiths and the dragons, Lilia risks her own life by entering the line of fire to find as many survivors as she can and escort them to safety despite the fact the ensuing conflict is far out of her league]].
* DiedInYourArmsTonight: After [[spoiler:Jarrod (who used to have a crush on her back in their days in Xyrus Academy) is killed for attempting to eavesdrop on the Wraiths who are holding them hostage]], Lilia remains by his side as he draws his final breath.
* MageBornOfMuggles: Thanks to Arthur teaching her, Lilia is able to awaken and become a mage, something that both of her {{Muggle}} parents thought was impossible as the Helsteas had failed to produce a mage for generations.
* NotSoStoic: [[spoiler:Despite having put a front of stoicism after the end of the war as part of LaResistance, reuniting with Arthur when he retakes Xyrus causes Lilia to break down in tears and embrace him. Vincent tells her that her reaction is a natural one]].
-->'''Lilia:''' So much for being a [[spoiler:stoic leader of the rebellion. But I suppose that is more Commander Glory's thing, anyway]].
-->'''Vincent:''' Never be ashamed of your emotions, dear. You cannot control how you feel and those who love and respect you will not judge you for expressing yourself.
* RebelLeader: [[spoiler:After the war, Lilia becomes an important figure in LaResistance and works to undermine the Alacryans' authority in Xyrus]].
* ShrinkingViolet: When first introduced, Lilia was an incredibly shy little girl who would hide from her family's servants. Thanks to her interactions with Arthur, she becomes a more outgoing individual.
* TookALevelInBadass: {{Downplayed}} compared to some of the other examples in the novel as it is more in terms of personality than power, but Lilia goes from being a shy little girl to a brave and determined woman who [[spoiler:not only becomes a leader of LaResistance, but is willing to brave a warzone between PhysicalGod[=s=] in order to rescue civilian survivors caught up in the fighting]].
* UnluckyChildhoodFriend: Ever since they first met, Lilia developed a crush on Arthur. Her infatuation with him only grows when, thanks to his effort and tutelage, she is able to become a mage. As such, she attempts to confess to Arthur during Eleanor's birthday party. However, Arthur, who was already developing an attraction towards Tessia at this point, turns Lilia down by saying that he would have to approve of which boy she brought to him.
* WackyParentSeriousChild: Lilia has a serious personality which contrasts with her father Vincent's eccentricities. Oftentimes she gets embarrassed by her father's antics (especially whenever he is under the influence which happens quite often).
* WowingCthulhu: [[spoiler:Her desire to survive the ensuing battle between the Wraiths and the dragons earns her the respect from the dragon Anakasha, who minutes earlier had coldly dismissed her by telling her that she was free to choose her own death. Lilia isn't keen on reciprocating seeing as the dragons paid no heed to the CollateralDamage they caused and their lack of respect to the mortal lives lost in their DivineConflict]].
-->'''[[spoiler:Anakasha]]:''' So, you have not chosen your death yet. I am...almost impressed.
-->'''Lilia:''' No one here chose death. To say otherwise is an insult to all those who survived the hellish war only to become CollateralDamage here today.

Arthur's bond, Sylvie is the daughter of Arthur's ParentalSubstitute, the dragon Sylvia, and in turn the granddaughter of Kezess, the ruler of the asuras. She was given to Arthur as an egg by her mother shortly before she sacrificed herself to save him from capture from the Scythe Cadell Vritra. Sylvie would hatch three years later and would go on to accompany Arthur onto his many adventures. Her bond to Arthur eventually draws the attention of the asuras themselves, who summon the two of them to Epheotus to train for the impending DivineConflict.
----
* TwentyFourHourArmor: [[spoiler:When entering the Relictombs, Sylvie briefly has to wear her adoptive father's djinn armor due to being an asura whom the Relictombs are designed to repel. This arrangement does not last long as not only does Arthur reclaim the armor from her during the botched mission to Nirmala, but Seris's rebellion eventually abandons the Relictombs to seek asylum in Dicathen]].
* AerithAndBob: In contrast to the rest of the asuras who all have fantastical nomenclatures, Sylvie has a surprisingly mundane name. {{Justified|Trope}} in that Arthur, a human, was the one to name her, and he named her after her late mother Sylvia who herself had a rather normal name in comparison to the rest of her kind.
* AffectionateNickname: She is affectionately called "Sylv".
* AllegianceAffirmation: After [[spoiler:her resurrection, Sylvie is asked by Mordain whose side she is on, considering she descends from both sides of the DivineConflict only to be raised by Arthur who opposes both of them. Sylvie reaffirms that she stands with her adoptive father and his people over her own kind, and that if the asuras pose a threat to her loved ones then she will stand against them]].
-->'''Sylvie:''' With [[spoiler:Arthur]], as it always has. [[spoiler:Dicathen]] is my home, its people my people. Its enemies my enemies.
* AndCallHimGeorge: Gets subjected to this trope twice. When Tessia first meets Sylvie, she gives her a crushing hug that the latter begs Arthur to save her from. Later on [[spoiler:after reuniting with Eleanor following her resurrection, the latter gives Sylvie another suffocating hug]].
* AngerBornOfWorry: After he and Tessia gets hospitalized she hits him for his recklessness. [[spoiler: Then after almost crippling himself in his battle against Jagrette she scolds him for it again. And again in his battle against Nico and Cadell in the climax of Volume 7, she gets angry at him for always pushing himself that far all the time as he views himself as expendable]].
* ArchnemesisDad:
** [[spoiler:Her biological father turns out to be Agrona, the Lord of the Vritra Clan and the BigBad of the novel]].
** [[spoiler:Her maternal grandfather Kezess isn't any better as he turns out to be a genocidal tyrant whose past atrocities led to Agrona's StartOfDarkness. Though surprisingly ''not'' a case of GruesomeGrandparent as Sylvie is one of the very few if not ''the'' only individual that Kezess has PetTheDog due to being his sole living direct descendant]].
* BackFromTheDead: [[spoiler: At the end of Volume 10, Aldir helps Arthur to enter the aether realm and gives his mana reserves to Sylvie's egg at the cost of his own life so that Arthur succeeds in reviving her]].
* BadPowersGoodPeople: [[spoiler:Sylvie inherited the powers of both the Indrath and the Vritra, and despite both clans being just as bad as the other, is ultimately one of the most selfless and heroic individuals in the setting thanks to Arthur raising her]].
* BadassAdorable: Sylvie might look cute in almost all of her forms, but as an asura ([[spoiler:and the sole living descendant of the resident God and Satan analogues]]), she is one of the most powerful individuals in the entire setting.
* BeastOfBattle: In her dragon form, she acts as Arthur's mount.
* BigDamnHeroes: Like her adoptive father, Sylvie is prone to doing this, oftentimes in tandem with him. Though she often plays the supporting role to him as he does most of the heavy lifting,
** In Volume 4, Sylvie accompanies Arthur when he puts an end to the attack on Xyrus Academy, in the process revealing to everyone present her true dragon form. In this form, she scares all of the Radicals into submission while inspiring the rest of the student body. Arthur has her tend to the incapacitated Tessia while he finishes off Lucas.
** In Volume 5, Arthur and Sylvie arrive at a mana beast-infested dungeon that Tessia and the Dicathian forces were about to attack. When Tessia opens the door to the dungeon, she finds Arthur sitting AtopAMountainOfCorpses, having dealt with the mana beasts in the dungeon for them before Sylvie jumps out to greet her.
** In Volume 11, [[spoiler:Arthur, his bonds, and a squadron of dragons sent to accompany them arrive to capture the rogue Sovereign Oludari from Perhata's squadron of Wraiths, in the process rescuing the Dicathian refugee caravan led by Lilia that they had taken captive as a HumanShield. During the engagement Sylvie assists her adoptive father in dealing with the Wraiths]].
* BigDamnReunion: And as with the above trope, it is often followed by this one.
** At the end of Volume 5, the intimidating aura from Arthur sitting AtopAMountainOfCorpses is broken when Sylvie jumps into Tessia's arms, finally reuniting with her adoptive mother after having spent two years away in Epheotus.
** The end of Volume 10 [[spoiler:has Sylvie finally being resurrected a year after her HeroicSacrifice back in Volume 7, finally reuniting with Arthur. Over the course of the next volume she proceeds to reunite with much of her adoptive father's remaining friends and family]].
* BigScrewedUpFamily: Where to start with her? [[spoiler:Her mother's side are a faction of draconic KnightTemplar[=s=] willing to commit genocide for what they call "the greater good". Her father's side got exiled from Epheotus for threatening to expose her grandfather's crimes, but have become a case of HeWhoFightsMonsters so severe they have long since eclipsed her mother's side in villainy. Then there are her adoptive parents. While her adoptive father has dedicated himself to bringing down both her father and her grandfather, her adoptive mother was ReforgedIntoAMinion by her father and turned into a PersonOfMassDestruction. It is a miracle that circumstances aligned so that Sylvie would turn out better than anyone else in her family]].
* BornOfHeavenAndHell: [[spoiler:Her mother and father are a dragon and basilisk, and said species are the analogues for angels and devils respectively as the former are a case of DragonsAreDivine and the rulers of Epheotus and the latter resemble horned demons and were exiled by the dragons for threatening to expose them for committing genocide]].
* TheBusCameBack: [[spoiler:Combined with BackFromTheDead. After her HeroicSacrifice at the end of Volume 7, Sylvie does not get resurrected until the end of Volume 10]].
* CallingParentsByTheirName: After learning of her true heritage and staying with her grandparents for two years, Sylvie stops calling Arthur and Tessia as her Papa and Mama and starts referring to them by their given names for the most part. As for addressing her biological father, [[spoiler:she usually refers to him as Agrona rather than as her father, as by then she has truly come to see Arthur and Tessia as her true parents in light of learning how unpleasant both sides of her heritage really are]].
* CameBackStrong: [[spoiler:After being resurrected following her HeroicSacrifice, not only is Sylvie finally expected to come into her full power as an asura, but she has become a NonLinearCharacter able to receive visions of potential futures and manipulate time itself in combat]].
* CatLikeDragons: Sylvie exhibits some cat-like behaviors, and from the Xyrus Academy Arc onward assumes a form that resembles a cross between a white fox and cat.
* ChildSoldiers: Is both types. By the time the WarArc starts she is only eight years old yet is one of the most powerful individuals fighting on the Dicathian side as she is an asuran princess who is all but exempted from the treaty due to being Arthur's bond. However, due to her age and the seal that her mother placed upon her before she was born to hide her presence, Sylvie is much weaker than the usual asura.
* CooldownHug: To Arthur [[spoiler:after his father's death]].
* CoverBlowingSuperpower: Her dragon form is this, as dragons are not only all but presumed extinct by the Dicathians which would put a target on her back by jealous individuals who would not know any better and seek to make her their bond, but are a race of asuras which would attract the attention of the Vritra Clan and their supporters.
* CreateYourOwnHero: {{Exploited}}. Not only is she [[spoiler:the daughter of Agrona and granddaughter of Kezess, the two deities who make up the BigBadEnsemble of the novel]], but at the end of [[spoiler: Volume 10, it is revealed that she is responsible for preventing Grey's soul from falling under Agrona's dominion and thus preventing him from being ReforgedIntoAMinion like Nico and Cecilia. With that in mind, it basically means that Agrona and Kezess's greatest mortal nemesis only exists because of their only living descendant]].
* CurtainsMatchTheWindow: [[spoiler:Her human form has white-gold hair to match her golden eyes]].
* DarkIsNotEvil: Her dragon form is entirely black and grey and [[spoiler:she wears black clothes in her human form]]. However, Sylvie is far from evil and the only reason she looks that way is because of [[spoiler:who her father is]].
* DeadGuyJunior: Arthur named her after her mother Sylvia to honor her HeroicSacrifice.
* DeathFlight: During Arthur's duel with Jagrette, he has Sylvie take her high up into the sky and then drop her so that he can impale her with an ice spear he created.
* DeathByOriginStory: [[spoiler:An extremely complicated and paradoxical example. After her HeroicSacrifice to save Arthur at the end of the war, Sylvie's soul was displaced across time and space which let her bear witness to Arthur's past life as King Grey. Upon witnessing Agrona claiming Grey's soul, Sylvie wrested it from his grasp and took it to the Leywins to be reincarnated into Arthur. Years later, Arthur would receive the egg containing the unborn Sylvie from Sylvia and go on to become the one to raise her, in the process molding her into the selfless individual who would go on to sacrifice herself to save him]].
* DefendsAgainstTheirOwnKind: [[spoiler:Despite being Agrona's own daughter, her loyalty is to her adoptive father Arthur and so she stands against her biological father and his invasion of Dicathen. After her resurrection, she reaffirms her loyalty to Arthur and Dicathen as she is willing to stand against not just both the Indrath and the Vritra - both sides of her family - but the asuras as a whole now that she knows their true nature]].
* DelightfulDragon: She is a friendly and innocent dragon, especially in her youth. And as it turns out [[spoiler:is the sole living good dragon in the setting]].
* DiscardAndDraw: [[spoiler:After her resurrection, her discipline of aether changed from [[HealingHands vivum]] to [[TimeMaster aevum]]]].
* DragonsAreDivine: She is part of the asuran Indrath Clan who are not only PhysicalGods but the rulers of the entire asuran race proper.
* TheEmpath: Sylvie can easily detect the emotions of those around her. In particular, it allows her to sense whenever Arthur and Tessia are in danger.
* EmpathyPet: As Arthur's bond, Sylvie can sense his emotions and oftentimes her own emotions reflect his current state of mind.
* {{Expy}}: Given the novel's inspiration from ''Literature/MushokuTensei'', Sylvie parallels several characters in that novel. As she is the protagonist's [[spoiler:(adoptive) daughter with his elven ChildhoodFriendLoveInterest, she is an analogue to Lucy Greyrat, the firstborn daughter of Rudeus and Sylphiette]]. Being a draconic deity who aids the protagonist, has a connection with the BigBad, and is associated with a [[spoiler:time loop]] makes her a partial analogue to Orsted (a comparison that she shares with her biological mother Sylvia). Lastly, with TheReveal that [[spoiler:she was responsible for the protagonist being a ParadoxPerson thanks to meddling with the circumstances of his reincarnation by way of TimeTravel, she can be viewed as one to the Rewind Miko]].
* ExtremelyProtectiveChild: She will defend both Arthur and Tessia to her dying breath. Which [[spoiler:she did in the case of the former at the end of Volume 7, although she eventually got better]].
* FamilyOfChoice: [[spoiler:Chooses her adoptive parents who raised her over the JerkassGods whom she shares blood with]].
* {{Foil}}: [[spoiler:To Regis (himself a ContrastingReplacementCharacter introduced after her HeroicSacrifice). Both are companions of asuran origin and are bonded to Arthur, but while Sylvie is serious (though she used to be more innocent prior to the TraumaCongaLine), Regis is snarky and comedic. Sylvie acts as Arthur's MoralityPet and encourages his compassionate side, while Regis reinforces his serious side including his strengths but also his worst aspects]].
* FreudianTrio: After [[spoiler:her resurrection at the end of Volume 10, she forms the dynamic with Arthur and Regis. Regis is TheId, Sylvie is TheSuperego, and Arthur is TheEgo]].
* FunnyBackgroundEvent: The main purveyor of these. From stealing food in plates to playing with insects to sleeping in weird positions, expect her to be doing something silly in every panel where she’s not the focus.
* GenerationXerox: Sylvie harkens back to her mother Sylvia in that both are selfless and caring unlike the rest of their kind. Not only does Sylvie serve as a voice of reason to rein in the cold and ruthless side of Arthur's personality that carried over from his past life which her mother did not get the opportunity to do so before her death, but she even goes so far to follow in her mother's footsteps by [[spoiler:performing a HeroicSacrifice to save Arthur from Cadell. After her resurrection, she recognizes that both sides of the DivineConflict are equally as bad and so seeks to strengthen Arthur's position to allow him to overcome both Kezess and Agrona]].
-->'''Seris:''' [[spoiler:Cadell said you'd succumbed to your wounds after your battle. "LikeMotherLikeDaughter", he'd said]].
* GlowingEyesOfDoom: Like Arthur, Sylvie's eyes glow bright with power whenever she gets serious.
* GrandfatherClause: InUniverse example. Despite being an asura and the sole living descendant of their rulers, Sylvie is allowed to participate in the war in spite of the treaty forbidding any direct participation from the asuras as she is bonded to Arthur.
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: [[spoiler:Her human form has white-blonde hair, and she is one of the kindest and empathic individuals in the setting other than her late mother Sylvia]].
* HappilyAdopted: She knows Arthur and Tessia are merely her adoptive parents, but she loves them as if they were her biological parents nonetheless. To the point that she deems them her family [[spoiler:over either the Indrath or the Vritra upon learning the truth about her heritage and how the DivineConflict really started]].
* HalfBreedDiscrimination: [[spoiler:Combined with SinsOfOurFathers, though ultimately {{Averted}}. Given that she is Agrona's daughter, Sylvie would have faced quite the prejudice upon arriving in Epheotus. Fortunately for her, her grandparents insulated her from the rest of the asuras and so she did not have to face much discrimination during her stay]].
* HeadPet: Prior to [[spoiler:attaining her human form]], her favorite place to sit appears to be on Arthur's head. She also does this to Grawder once, himself Curtis's pet.
* HealingHands: Thanks to her training with her grandmother Myre, Sylvie developed an affinity for vivum, the discipline of aether that specializes in healing and creation.
* HeritageDisconnect: Despite being a member of the Indrath Clan, Sylvie does not really identify that much with her heritage even after her two-year stay in Epheotus due to her having been raised by Arthur all her life. She has even less reason to after [[spoiler:learning that both sides of her heritage are in fact JerkassGods responsible for many atrocities]].
* HeroicSacrifice: [[spoiler:She sacrificed her physical body to save Arthur from dying after his battle against Nico and Cadell at the end of Volume 7. {{Subverted}} in the following volume as it is revealed she turned back into an egg, and at the end of Volume 10 she finally returns after Arthur is able to revive her thanks to Aldir sacrificing his mana reserves]].
* HidingYourHeritage: Variant. She hides her true form as a dragon to prevent unwanted attention from coming her and Arthur's way. Given that even that when disguising her true form she got coveted by Sebastian, it is safe to say that if she went around in her true form she would have attracted the attention of far more malevolent parties, namely the Vritra Clan and their collaborators as not only is she a dragon but is the daughter of the late Sylvia. Eventually, after she and Arthur return from Epheotus, she no longer hides her true nature as everyone around her knows of it in light of the coming invasion.
* HornedHumanoid: After breaking the seal, [[spoiler:she unlocks her human form which is a young girl with horns. Those horns being a sign of who her true father is]].
* IGotBigger:
** After spending time away from Arthur during his two years adventuring with Jasmine, Sylvie grows from a tiny hatchling to a rather large dragon.
--->'''Arthur:''' Wow Sylv. You gained weight...and height. And width.
** Later on [[spoiler:when she is resurrected a year after her HeroicSacrifice, Arthur notices that Sylvie in her human form is no longer a little girl but a young woman]].
--->'''Sylvie:''' I look older. Just like you.
* {{Imprinting}}: When she first hatched, she mistook Arthur for her mother. After Arthur corrects her, she begins addressing him as her father instead. She also views Tessia as her mother in the same fashion.
* InterspeciesAdoption: Sylvie is a dragon[[spoiler:/basilisk hybrid]] whose adoptive parents are a human (Arthur) and an elf (Tessia).
* IsThatCuteKidYours: After [[spoiler:Sylvie assumes her human form for the first time, Eleanor mistakes her for Arthur and Tessia's daughter before her brother clears up her identity. Later on after Sylvie gets resurrected, it gets even more complicated as Arthur now has the same hair and eye colors as Sylvie thanks to her having sacrificed her own body to restore his own, leading some to mistake her for his biological daughter]].
-->'''Arthur:''' [[spoiler:My sister had pointed at me with a trembled finger and asked when Tessia and I had a child together. When I thought about it, Sylvie did have glossy, wheat-colored hair that might have resulted from a shade of brown mixing with gunmetal silver, but I responded like any older brother would: I smacked the back of Ellie's head and asked her how Sylvie could be my child if she looked only a few years younger than Ellie]].
* KillingIntent: As a member of the Indrath Clan, Sylvie has the capacity for the compelling aura known as King's Force. She is able to use her own willpower to cower her enemies into submission.
* LikeADaughterToMe: When King Glayder tries to buy her for Sebastian, Arthur refuses citing he sees her as his daughter. Sylvie also refers to Arthur and Tessia as her "Papa" and "Mama" respectively. In Volume 11, [[spoiler:in her narration she discards the surname Indrath and adopts the surname Leywin like her adoptive father]].
* LittleMissBadass: [[spoiler:She appears as a little girl in her human form yet is not only one of the most powerful entities in the setting, but has the strong personality to match her power. Later {{Subverted}} to an extent after her resurrection as her human form has undergone a PlotRelevantAgeUp to that of a young woman, but her badass credentials remain unchanged]].
* LockedOutOfTheLoop:
** Arthur [[spoiler:withholds from her the fact that Agrona has been able to possess her until they are both on the run after the attack on the Council Castle]].
** {{Averted}} [[spoiler:after her resurrection. Sylvie ends up catching up extremely fast as to what has been happening to Arthur and what he has learned in her absence thanks to her telepathic bond with him. On top of that, she already got to experience his past life in its entirety on top of having been the factor that prevented him from being reincarnated as one of Agrona's servants in the first place]].
* LukeIAmYourFather:
** During Volume 4, Arthur learns from Windsom that Sylvie is the granddaughter of Kezess, the ruler of the asuras who is Sylvia's father.
** At the start of Volume 8, [[spoiler:Arthur learns from Sylvia's second message that Agrona was her former lover and thus Sylvie's father. Sylvie only finds out about this offscreen (either from being told the truth by her grandparents during her time in Epheotus or when her soul was displaced across time and space after her HeroicSacrifice), as during the end of Volume 10 as her soul is wresting the future Arthur's soul away from Agrona she briefly acknowledges that Agrona was her biological father]].
* MorphicResonance: In all of her forms, she maintains the same distinct SupernaturalGoldEyes. In addition, [[spoiler:her human form's choice of attire in wearing black clothing is derived from her black scales in dragon form]].
* MoralityChain: To Arthur, especially after his return from Epheotus. Sylvie serves to rein in the most ruthless and callous side of his personality. She continues to do so [[spoiler:after her resurrection with Regis acting as the opposite. On top of that, her resumed presence in his life serves to remind him that the asuras are not entirely evil and that exterminating them would make him no better than either Agrona or Kezess themselves]].
* MoralityChainBeyondTheGrave: Even after [[spoiler:her HeroicSacrifice to save Arthur from the Vritra, the memory of the time he spent raising her is what keeps Arthur from going back down the path his past life went and wanting to exterminate all of the asuras for the atrocities they have done onto him and his people. Eventually, Arthur is able to resurrect her]].
* NatureVersusNurture: In this case, Nurture. Thanks to being raised by Arthur, [[spoiler:Sylvie turned out to be benevolent and selfless unlike either side of her family, let alone the rest of the asuras. Arthur even speculates that Sylvia intentionally gave the egg that contained the unborn Sylvie to him so that she could be raised away from the asuras and their corrupt influence]].
* NomDeMom: She takes up her late mother Sylvia's surname of Indrath. There is a good reason for this, as [[spoiler:her father turns out to be Agrona Vritra, the BigBad himself and the one who orchestrated Sylvia's murder. Later on, she discards the Indrath name upon learning that they are no better than the Vritra]].
* NonHumanHumanoidHybrid: [[spoiler:She is revealed to be a dragon/basilisk hybrid]].
* NonLinearCharacter: [[spoiler:From the end of Volume 10 onward, Sylvie is no longer bound by time and space after her HeroicSacrifice, and is capable of hearing messages from future versions of herself]].
* NotQuiteDead: [[spoiler:At the start of Volume 8, Regis informs Arthur that Sylvie is in fact still alive after her HeroicSacrifice in the climax of the previous volume, but that she had been reduced back into an egg. Arthur is eventually able to restore her at the end of Volume 10, albeit it took the help of Aldir sacrificing his own mana reserves to do so]].
* OrcRaisedByElves: [[spoiler:Sylvie is an asura who is descended from two of the most powerful asura clans in the setting. However, the asuras are JerkassGods, and among the asuras [[GodAndSatanAreBothJerks both sides of her family]] - the Indrath and the Vritra - are responsible for much of the suffering in the story. When Sylvie finally hatched, she was raised by Arthur and Tessia and came to view both as her AdoptivePeerParent[=s=]. Due to being raised away from the influence of either side of her biological family, Sylvie grew to identify more with her foster parents over her own WarringNatures, becoming the WhiteSheep of both clans]].
* OlderAndWiser: Variant. After [[spoiler:being resurrected a year after her HeroicSacrifice, not only has Sylvie's human form undergone a PlotRelevantAgeUp to that of a young woman, but her soul has experienced Arthur's past life in its entirety making her far more worldly and experienced than she was before her sacrifice as she knows the full picture of what Arthur has gone through]].
* ParadoxPerson: The end of Volume 10 reveals [[spoiler:that after her HeroicSacrifice to save Arthur at the end of Volume 7, Sylvie's soul was displaced across time and space which allowed her to observe the entirety of Arthur's past life as King Grey. Upon reaching the moment of Grey's death, she witnessed her biological father Agrona taking Grey's soul. As this would lead to Grey being ReforgedIntoAMinion, Sylvie realized at that moment that she had to be the one to intervene to ensure Grey would reincarnate as Arthur and not as one of Agrona's servants. She managed to wrest Grey's soul away from Agrona's grasp and take it to the Leywin family to be reincarnated into Arthur. Afterwards, Sylvie returned to the egg containing her unborn self where she waited until Arthur managed to restore her physical form]].
* ParentChildTeam: With her adoptive father Arthur, especially once Sylvie [[spoiler:assumes both human form and his surname over either of her biological parents. Sure enough, shortly after her resurrection Sylvie accompanies her adoptive father and his party when they enter the Relictombs to relieve Seris’s rebellion and continues to do so from that point onward]].
* ParrotPetPosition: Prior to [[spoiler:attaining her human form]], her other favorite place to sit appears to be Arthur's shoulder.
* PatchworkKids: As a dragon[[spoiler:/basilisk]] hybrid, Sylvie inherited her [[spoiler:white-gold hair in human form]] and her true form as a dragon from her mother Sylvia and [[spoiler:her black scales and attire, facial features in human form, and horns from her father Agrona]].
* PiecesOfGod: [[spoiler:After her HeroicSacrifice to save Arthur at the end of the war, Sylvie's soul was broken apart and scattered across time and space. When Arthur enters the fourth keystone, he is surprised to see Sylvie as she looked before her post-resurrection PlotRelevantAgeUp. However, that Sylvie states that she is not the one who entered the keystone with him but rather the one who saved his soul from Agrona in the first place as she has yet to reunite with her unborn self]].
* PlotRelevantAgeUp: When [[spoiler:she is brought BackFromTheDead, it has only been a year since her HeroicSacrifice, but in her human form she has gone from looking like a little girl to a young woman]].
-->'''Kathyln:''' But the last time I'd seen her - sometime during the war, I wasn't sure exactly how long it had been - [[spoiler:she had presented herself physically as a child when in her humanoid form. Now, she was a young woman, and yet the confidence and maturity that radiated from her like an aura made her seem much older]].
* PowerDyesYourHair: Variant. Her dragon form has black hair while [[spoiler:her human form has white-gold hair]]
* PowerTrio: After [[spoiler:being resurrected, she forms this dynamic with Arthur and Regis. This plays a key role in how Arthur can possibly master the fourth discipline of aether, Fate, as he needs insight into the other three disciplines when one can normally only master one. However, it is possible as Arthur's bonds can master the other paths, with Arthur wielding spacium, Regis wielding vivum, and Sylvie wielding aevum]].
* PurpleIsPowerful: As a member of the Indrath Clan, Sylvie is able to manipulate aether which manifests in the form of purple energy.
* RaisedByRival: She is raised by Arthur, [[spoiler:but biologically she is the daughter and granddaughter of Arthur's greatest enemies, Agrona and Kezess]].
* RaisedByHumans: Sylvie is an asura (specifically a dragon[[spoiler:/basilisk hybrid]]) who is raised by the human Arthur and the elf Tessia.
* ReallyRoyaltyReveal: Arthur learns from Windsom that Sylvie is in fact the granddaughter of Kezess, the ruler of the asuras. He thus realizes that he had been raising the princess of the gods the entire time.
* RebelliousPrincess: [[spoiler:Despite being the granddaughter of Kezess and thus the Princess of Epheotus, Sylvie turns against her grandfather out of loyalty to her adoptive father Arthur. Shortly after her resurrection, when she is greeted by some of the asuras whom her grandfather had sent down to occupy Epheotus and told that her grandfather requests her presence immediately, Sylvie refuses them because she plans on accompanying Arthur and his entourage to relieve Seris's rebellion, on top of not knowing what her grandfather has planned for her]].
* RediscoveringRootsTrip: Her stay in Epheotus qualifies as upon her arrival she is taken under the care of her grandparents and learns of her asuran heritage and powers.
* ReportsOfMyDeathWereGreatlyExaggerated: Says the trope name verbatim during [[spoiler:her audience with Charon, when the latter brings up how her apparent death was received by her clan]].
* TheReveal: The end of Volume 10 reveals that [[spoiler:Sylvie is the very reason why Arthur reincarnated outside of Agrona's control. After her HeroicSacrifice at the end of Volume 7, Sylvie's soul was displaced across time and space which allowed her to observe the entirety of Arthur's past life as King Grey. Upon witnessing Agrona claiming Grey's soul, she wrested the soul away from his grasp and took it to the Leywin family to reincarnate as Arthur]].
* ReunionVow: [[spoiler:Her very last words to Arthur before sacrificing herself to preserve his body and spirit him away from Nico and Cadell have her promise to him that they will meet again someday and somehow. Eventually, he does succeed in bringing her back]].
-->'''Sylvie:''' [[spoiler:Try to keep yourself while I'm gone, okay? Until we meet again...]]
* SapientPet: As an asura who is bonded to Arthur, Sylvie is just as sapient as him. Though after [[spoiler:assumes her human form, he stops viewing her as his pet and moreso as his own daughter]].
* SapientSteed: While she may sometimes serve as Arthur's mount, Sylvie has a mind and personality of her own due to being an asura.
* SecretKeeper: As Arthur's bond, Sylvie's telepathic connection to him means she is privy to all of his secrets, especially his deepest ones.
* {{Seers}}: After [[spoiler:her resurrection, Sylvie ends up periodically receiving visions of possible futures, which Kezess says is rare among dragons. He tells Arthur that he should have brought her to him as soon as she started having them, though Arthur refuses as he knows Kezess has ulterior motives]].
* ShapeShifterDefaultForm: At first, she poses as a black lizard-like mana beast to hide her true nature as a dragon. Then, after the incident in the Dire Tombs, she changes her default form into that of a white fox-like creature to prevent Lucas from recognizing her and thus Arthur. This remains her default form until the end of Volume 6 when [[spoiler:she finally unlocks her human form after the seal that was placed on her gets broken]].
* ShapeShifting: Being a dragon, Sylvie is capable of this power. It proves useful in hiding her true nature.
* ShedTheFamilyName: [[spoiler:During Volume 11, she discards the Indrath name and adopts the Leywin name instead, as she has learned of the Indrath's atrocities offscreen and views Arthur as her true father figure. That being said, for the time being she is willing to capitalize on being Kezess's granddaughter to influence the forces that her grandfather sent down to occupy Dicathen while Arthur was busy in the aether realm reviving her]].
* ShipperOnDeck: If her calling Tessia "Mama" didn’t make it clear enough, she very much ships her with Arthur, though she also briefly teases Kathlyn about her very obvious feelings for him.
* ShoulderSizedDragon: She is small enough to ride on either Arthur's head or shoulder. While this was very true when she first hatched, as she got bigger she began adopting a smaller fox-like form both for ease of travel and to conceal her true form.
* SleepCute: In her smaller forms, Sylvie is prone to sleeping in a rather innocent fashion, oftentimes in the company of her loved ones. While Arthur is the most prominent example, Sylvie is also prone to doing this with Eleanor and Tessia.
* SleepModeSize: She becomes quite a large dragon over the two years Arthur spends adventuring with Jasmine, but [[{{Shapeshifter}} changes her appearance]] to look either like a black lizard or a small white fox-like creature so as to not draw attention.
* TheSlowPath: Variant. [[spoiler:After her HeroicSacrifice, her soul ended up observing the entirety of Arthur's past life as King Grey in its entirety from him being given up by his biological parents to the orphanage all the way to his mysterious death, which as it turns out was Agrona claiming his soul for his own use. After rescuing Grey's soul and taking it to the Leywins so that he would reincarnate into Arthur, Sylvie then returned to her egg and waited until Arthur resurrected her]].
* SpannerInTheWorks: [[spoiler:Arguably the ''biggest'' one in the entire story so far, as she is basically the only reason why Arthur is the person he is today and not a brainwashed slave of Agrona's. Following her HeroicSacrifice, Sylvie's soul was displaced across time and space, which allowed her to witness the moment Agrona claimed Grey's soul. Realizing what had to be done to preserve the timeline, Sylvie wrested the soul away from Agrona's grasp and took it to the Leywins so it would eventually reincarnate into Arthur. In short, she basically dashed Agrona's EvilPlan as it was beginning and forced him to revise it]].
* StableTimeLoop: At the end of Volume 10, it is revealed that [[spoiler:Sylvie instigated one which ended up being the reason why Grey reincarnated as Arthur and not as one of Agrona's servants. Following her HeroicSacrifice at the end of Volume 7, her soul was displaced across time and space which allowed her to witness Arthur's past life as King Grey. At the end of Grey's life, Sylvie witnessed Agrona taking his soul. Realizing what she had to do, Sylvie retrieved Grey's soul from Agrona's grasp and took it away so that he would reincarnate free of Agrona's control. In turn, Arthur would go on to be the one who raised Sylvie her entire life, instilling in her his values and making her the person she is today]].
* StrongerThanTheyLook: Appears no bigger than a cat, but is able to intimidate Grawder, a full size A-rank world lion, and make him submit to her. After [[spoiler:unlocking her human form, she appears as a little girl but has grown in power thanks to her training under her grandparents during her stay in Epheotus]].
* StumblingInTheNewForm: [[spoiler:Upon turning into a human for the first time, Sylvie experiences considerable difficulty in terms of motor control as she is not used to bipedal locomotion given how all of her previous forms had been quadrupedal. On top of that, Sylvie has a particularly difficult time using her thumbs, which none of her previous forms ever had]].
-->'''Arthur:''' Her frustration was visible; [[spoiler:she tripped over her own feet or lost balance for no apparent reason while standing still. She had a particularly difficult time learning to use her newly-acquired thumbs. Many plates and bowls had to be replaced due to her clumsy efforts to use these new human appendages]].
* SupernaturalGoldEyes: Sylvie has golden eyes, a sign of her divine status. Her eye color is uniquely her own exclusive trait rather than being inherited from either side of her family. Although in the {{Webcomic}} her eyes are more yellow than gold in color.
* SuperpowerLottery: Not only is Sylvie an asura, but she is [[spoiler:the descendant of two of the most powerful asura clans in the setting. From her father Agrona, she inherits the power of the Vritra and their capacity for destruction. From her mother Sylvia, she inherits the power of the Indrath and their capacity for creation. On top of her YinYangBomb powers, after her HeroicSacrifice Sylvie's soul was displaced across time and space, making both her a TimeMaster and a NonLinearCharacter. Once Arthur is able to reconstitute her physical form, Sylvie's newfound mastery over time becomes an invaluable asset to him]].
* SuperhumanTransfusion: [[spoiler:To save Arthur's life at the close of the War Arc, Sylvie sacrificed her own body to restore him. In the aftermath, Arthur learns that his body had become part-asura, granting him superhuman capabilities and the ability to regenerate injuries]].
* {{Telepathy}}: How she communicates with Arthur [[spoiler:before she can assume her human form]]. This mental bond with him is what allows her to catch up on any recent developments that happen, especially following [[spoiler:her resurrection in which she was LockedOutOfTheLoop for over a year. As Regis also has the same mental bond with Arthur, she is also able to communicate with him in the same way]].
* TitleDrop: [[spoiler:At the end of Volume 10, when she is witnessing Agrona claiming the soul of Arthur's past self King Grey, Sylvie's reaction has her mention not only the title of the chapter, but of the series itself]].
-->'''Sylvie:''' My life felt like a dream yet to happen, [[spoiler:my death]] like the beginning after the end...
* TimeMaster: [[spoiler:After her HeroicSacrifice and eventual resurrection, Sylvie became one of these as her discipline of aether switched from vivum to aevum. In combat, she is now able to slow time to allow Arthur to land fatal blows on his opponents. She is capable of manipulating time to such a degree she became a NonLinearCharacter, having completely transcended time and space. On top of all that, she is able to look into both the past and the future]].
* TokenHeroicOrc: [[spoiler:She, along with her mother Sylvia, genuinely cares about Arthur unlike the rest of the Indrath Clan who only treated Arthur with a begrudging tolerance at best and outright scorn at worst, on top of being responsible for committing genocide upon the djinn whom Arthur and his family are descended from. There is also the fact she is the daughter of Agrona himself, as he and his clan are the ones behind the whole DivineConflict and the ruination of Arthur's homeland of Dicathen. It helps that Arthur has been the one to raise her rather than either side of her biological family]].
** To further emphasize this aspect of her, Sylvie [[spoiler:is the ''only'' asura who never uses the term "lesser" if not the one who uses the term the least, when even other examples of this trope among the asuras such as Sylvia and Mordain use the term even if in a somewhat less prejudiced stance]].
* TraumaticSuperpowerAwakening: Variant. It is revealed that [[spoiler:her HeroicSacrifice to save Arthur from the Vritra at the end of Volume 7 was an instance of this. Sylvie realized that as she and Arthur were bonded, she could use her own lifeforce to preserve his body and keep it from tearing itself apart, a realization that only came at the moment when she understood he was about to die]].
* UndyingLoyalty: To Arthur. To the point that [[spoiler:after her resurrection she remains loyal to him and is willing to stand against the rest of her kind should they inflict harm upon him and his loved ones (which they have already done quite a lot of)]].
-->'''Sylvie:''' For him, I will stop the world from spinning if I have to.
* VillainousLineage: [[spoiler:Sylvie is the daughter of Agrona and the granddaughter of Kezess, both of whom are tyrannical rulers as they and the clans they rule over are [[GodAndSatanAreBothJerks no better than the other]]]].
* VillainPossessedBystander: Right after [[spoiler:assuming human form for the first time, Agrona temporarily possesses her body so that he can talk to Arthur for the first time]].
* WarringNatures: [[spoiler:Sylvie is the daughter of the dragon Sylvia of the Indrath Clan (who in turn is the daughter of Kezess, the leader of the Indrath Clan and the ruler of the asuras) and the basilisk Agrona of the Vritra Clan (himself being the leader of said clan). Both sides of her heritage are engaged in a DivineConflict that started when the former clan [[FallenAngel banished the latter from Epheotus]] for uncovering the fact they committed genocide in the distant past. Despite both sides of her heritage being [[GodAndSatanAreBothJerks no better than the other]], Sylvie is the WhiteSheep of both clans due to Arthur and Tessia raising her]].
* WarriorPrincess: Being the daughter of Sylvia and thus the granddaughter of Kezess, Sylvie is effectively the princess of not just the Indrath Clan but the asuras as a whole. Notably, despite the treaty forbidding any direct participation from any asuras, Sylvie is exempted from this rule due to being Arthur's bond and is allowed to engage in combat.
* WhiteSheep: [[spoiler:Sylvie is the sole good member of both the Indrath and Vritra Clans, thanks to being raised by Arthur away from both Kezess and Agrona. She has become very empathetic to a degree unheard of in both clans outside of her late mother]].
* WiseBeyondTheirYears: Even though she is an asura, Sylvie is one of the youngest individuals in the setting as Arthur has been the one raising her for her entire life. Despite her youth, Sylvie acts far more maturely and intelligently than her age would suggest, especially since she acts as the voice of reason for her adoptive father. Following [[spoiler:her resurrection, it is revealed Sylvie became a NonLinearCharacter following her HeroicSacrifice, having witnessed Arthur's past life as King Grey in its entirety. On top of that, she is now able to receive visions of the future, meaning she is even wiser than she was before]].
* WorfHadTheFlu: Despite being born an asura, a being noted to be naturally more powerful than anything else in the setting, [[spoiler:she is often overpowered, or as in the case of Uto, almost killed. Justified in that her mother put a seal on her to conceal her from Agrona, which also had the effect of stunting her growth. After returning from Epheotus she is only now starting to catch up, and is expected to come into her full power soon now that Arthur has revived her in the aether realm]].
* YinYangBomb: [[spoiler:Due to having both Indrath and Vritra blood, Sylvie has the contrasting powers of both clans]].
* YoungerThanTheyLook: Much like her adoptive father, [[spoiler:after her resurrection Sylvie in her human form looks much older than her actual age at nine years old. This is far more pronounced in her case, as she went from being a little girl to a young woman despite only a year having passed between her death and resurrection]].

[[folder:Boo]]
!!Boo
!!!'''Debut:''' Volume 5 (Novel), Chapter 150 (Webcomic)

Eleanor's bond, a guardian beast given to the Leywin Family by Windsom.
----
* BearsAreBadNews: Boo is a rather terrifying mana beast that resembles a bear.
* BioweaponBeast: His species is a rather benign example of this trope. To quote Windsom:
-->'''Windsom:''' They are bred - or perhaps created is a better term - by the Grandus Clan of the titan race. A guardian beast's entire purpose becomes the protection of its bond.
* DireBeast: He is a bear-like mana beast of asuran origin that is far larger than ordinary bears, and thus is much more intimidating and ferocious.
* FluffyTheTerrible: Eleanor gives him the name "Boo" due to the black spots above his eyes. By the time Arthur first meets him upon returning to Dicathen, Boo has grown into a monstrous bear.
* GuardianEntity: The aptly-named guardian beasts are bred by the Grandus Clan to act as guardians for important individuals. Boo is no exception. Windsom explicitly gave him to the Leywins so that Arthur would feel comfortable about leaving his family behind to train in Epheotus.
* MightyGlacier: When he matures, Boo is able to tank hits for Eleanor given his massive bulk.
* PetsAsAPresent: He was given to the Leywins by Windsom as a parting gift before he escorted Arthur to Epheotus. Reynolds originally wanted to bond with him so that he could have his own BeastOfBattle, but Eleanor ended up bonding with him instead.
* {{Teleportation}}: As a guardian beast, Boo able to teleport to Eleanor if he senses her life is in danger. A RunningGag has Boo randomly teleporting to Eleanor's side in the most inopportune of moments, which takes everyone around her by surprise by the bear's sudden appearance.

[[folder:Elijah Knight]]
!!Elijah Knight
!!!'''Debut:''' Volume 2 (Novel), Chapter 49 (Webcomic)
->"''Arthur has always been there for me. But he's facing bigger battles. If I want to stand next to him...I need to get stronger!''"

Arthur’s best friend, Elijah is a human raised by the dwarves whose origins are unclear. He and Arthur first meet when the latter goes to the Adventurers' Guild Hall in Xyrus to get examined as adventurer. The two cross paths again years later as both find themselves in the same adventuring party bound for the dungeon known as the Dire Tombs. When the venture goes catastrophically wrong with nearly the entire party being wiped out, the two become close friends in the face of their harrowing ordeal. After making it back to civilization, Arthur invites Elijah to live with his family and the two end up attending Xyrus Academy together.

For tropes related to [[spoiler:his true identity, see Nico Sever's folder in the [[Characters/TheBeginningAfterTheEndVritraClan Vritra Clan]] page]].
----
* AbhorrentAdmirer: {{Discussed}}. After learning that Arthur used to be ChildhoodFriends with Tessia, the intensely envious Elijah bemoans his own luck with girls as he tells his best friend of an unattractive dwarf girl named Helgarth with whom Rahdeas had attempted to set up an ArrangedMarriage for him. Elijah describes her in a very unflattering manner, one that makes her look far less attractive than the other dwarf girls seen in the novel, and it is quite possible Elijah is exaggerating her looks if he did not make her up at all.
* AlwaysSomeoneBetter: Views Arthur as this. Not only is Arthur much more physically and magically talented compared to Elijah, but he has far more success in attracting the ladies. As it turns out, [[spoiler:this resentment ties into Elijah’s true identity, who has been twisted into despising Arthur - or rather Arthur’s past self King Grey - for a perceived wrong he committed in their past lives]].
* AmnesiacDissonance: Elijah harbors no recollection of his past or where he came from, with his guardian Rahdeas intentionally refraining from mentioning the subject of his parents. Not to mention, he notes that the only memories of his childhood "come in these confusing and painful flashes" which sometimes leave him unconscious for brief periods of time. It is in one of these flashes during a spar with Arthur that a look into his past [[spoiler:- or rather his true identity - finally surfaces, which shows that he not only recognizes Arthur as King Grey, but harbors outright hatred for him]].
* BarrierWarrior: Elijah is able to conjure barriers made of either earth or metal to either protect him from attacks or trap his opponents.
* BecauseYouWereNiceToMe: His friendship with Arthur forms in this manner. After Arthur collapses after slaying the elderwood guardian, he wakes up to learn that Elijah had been tending to both him and Jasmine when he could have just as easily abandoned them like Lucas did. The two of them proceed to warm up to each other while they recover. Arthur views Elijah's actions as a true indication of his character and thus worthy of his friendship, while Elijah comes to view Arthur as his FirstFriend. After escaping the Dire Tombs, Arthur brings Elijah to live with his family in Xyrus, and in turn the two of them end up attending Xyrus Academy together.
* BerserkButton: Given that he spent his upbringing in Darv, Elijah cannot stand any instances of racism directed towards dwarves.
* CasanovaWannabe: As he is envious of how Arthur seems to get the attention of the all the girls, especially royalty like Tessia and Kathyln, Elijah has repeatedly tried to get girls to notice him only to fail in an embarrassing fashion. Arthur thinks he can do much better.
-->'''Elijah:''' My third time trying to strike up a conversation with a girl, and they've all so kindly made convenient excuses to go elsewhere.
* ChildProdigy: {{Downplayed}} compared to some of the other examples in the novel. It is noted that Elijah's aptitude in earth magic is rather advanced when compared to other earth mages his age, especially since he has the ability to transmute molecules into earth on top of having his own unique ability to manipulate metal. However, it is noted that Elijah has quite a lot of room for improvement.
* DarkIsNotEvil: Elijah usually prefers to wear all black outfits, but is one of the good guys. [[spoiler:Later {{Subverted}} with the reveal of his true identity, allegiance, and motivations]].
* DishingOutDirt: His primary elemental affinity is earth magic. Fitting, as he has been raised by the dwarves.
* DistressedDude: Is kidnapped by the Radicals during the attack on Xyrus and taken back to Alacrya for reasons unknown.
* DoorstepBaby: He was left as a baby at the doorstep of Rahdeas, who would go on to raise him. It is later revealed that [[spoiler:Agrona was the one who entrusted Rahdeas to raise him]].
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: When he is first introduced during Arthur's visit to the Adventurers' Guild Hall to get examined for his adventurer's license, Elijah is presented as a reserved individual who ends up being exempt from having to take the exam, and afterwards Kaspian goes over how mysterious his origins are. While Elijah's MysteriousPast does prove to be important much later on, the moment that truly introduces what kind of a person Elijah he really is (disregarding [[spoiler:his ''true'' identity]]) happens in the Dire Tombs as he stays by Arthur and Jasmine's side and helps the two of them recover. In the process, Elijah opens up about own experiences and insecurities to Arthur which reveals that he has a warm side to him and was looking for someone to open up to.
* ExtraOreDinary: Elijah has a deviant magical ability that allows him to not only manipulate metal, but conjure it, which is not normally possible for most elemental deviant mages. His power manifests in the form of black metal spikes. A power [[spoiler:that is awfully similar to those exhibited by the Vritra, and for good reason]].
* FireForgedFriends: After the TotalPartyKill in the Dire Tombs and helping Arthur and Jasmine recover (on top of seeing Arthur's true powers), he and Arthur become best friends. On one hand, Arthur is the FirstFriend Elijah has ever made. On the other hand, Arthur is indebted to Elijah for saving his and Jasmine's lives when he could have easily left them to die like Lucas did.
* FirstFriend: Considers Arthur the first friend that he ever made.
* ForcedFromTheirHome: After blacking out one day only to wake up surrounded by black metal spikes, Rahdeas told him that it was time for him leave Darv and explore the rest of Dicathen. As it turns out, [[spoiler:this was so that he would locate the reincarnated Grey, who had reincarnated outside of Agrona's control as both were needed for his plan to summon the Legacy]].
* FriendlessBackground: As a human growing up in Darv, Elijah did not have any friends. Not only did he stand out from the rest due to his race, he also felt that he was a freak of nature due to his unusual powers. He had even less of an opportunity to make friends when Rahdeas ordered him to leave home and wander Dicathen. All that changed when he ended up in the Dire Tombs with Arthur.
* FriendlyRival: Not only is he Arthur's best friend, but he also seeks to improve his capabilities in order to match him. During their time in Xyrus Academy, the two also engage in sparring sessions in Arthur's private training room.
* HeritageDisconnect: PlayedWith. Despite being a human, Elijah was raised among the dwarves since his infancy and so grew to identify more with them than his race at first, on top of having briefly wondered if he was a half-dwarf given how much he stood out. He stands up against any instances of racism directed towards dwarves, which causes some racist humans to look down on him as less than human. However, he does settle into life in Xyrus once Arthur takes him there and adapts to the local culture, though he maintains the same sympathy to the race that raised him.
* HeroicSacrifice: Tries to prevent the Radicals from harming Tessia, only to be taken captive himself and taken back to Alacrya.
* HonoraryUncle: He views Arthur's parents as well as the Helsteas as his uncles and aunts, as he had never known any other ParentalSubstitute[=s=] other than his aloof guardian Rahdeas.
* LockedOutOfTheLoop: Elijah has no idea where he comes from, with Rahdeas seemingly knowing where he came from but having been reticent about revealing it to him. [[spoiler:Turns out Elijah's true origins are far darker than he could ever have expected]].
* LonersAreFreaks: He spent much of his childhood in Darv to himself for despite being raised by the dwarves, Elijah never felt that he truly fitted in with the local populace given how he was not of the same race. Not helping matters were his deviant abilities, which made him perceive himself as a freak of nature. His situation does improve upon moving to Xyrus where he gets to open himself up to others.
* MagicMissileStorm: As a conjurer, Elijah's fighting style revolves around hitting his opponents with scores of earthen projectiles. Some of his spells include Earthen Spear, which conjures a rock spike, and Stone Barrage, which allows him to raise fragments of the earth from the ground and throw them at his enemies.
* MomentKiller: When Arthur and Tessia reconcile after the incident following the student orientation, Elijah stumbles across them being intimate with each other. Naturally, considering that Tessia is the StudentCouncilPresident, Elijah gives Arthur a smug grin as he walks off.
* MysteriousPast: Is established to have one when Kaspian Bladeheart goes over his background. What little is known about him is that he was raised by the dwarves and that the only reason why he was exempt from the exam was because of his guardian Rahdeas vouching for him. Even Elijah himself doesn't know the full picture of where he comes from as Rahdeas kept the truth from him.
* NotSoStoic: Initially seems to be a stoic and reserved individual given his lack of interactions with anyone during his introduction, but later on when he and Arthur have a heart to heart in the Dire Tombs he starts to open up to him, revealing that he has a warm personality beneath his façade.
* TheQuietOne: When he is first introduced, Elijah does not speak up that much. Though after he befriends Arthur and moves to Xyrus he becomes much more social and outgoing.
* ParentalAbandonment: Elijah has no memory of who his parents were other than that he was left at Rahdeas's doorstep as a baby.
* RaisedByOrcs: [[spoiler:{{Subverted}}. It turns out that the Kingdom of Darv where Elijah grew up in had been heavily compromised by the influence of the Vritra, with his guardian Rahdeas being their top collaborator after the deaths of the Greysunders. Yet Elijah turned out to be a rather decent person in spite of the malicious intents of those who had been raising him, and even then he had been kidnapped before the Vritra's sway over Darv was revealed. Then it turns out that his true identity is a willing servant of the Vritra, and that he had been given to Rahdeas by them while he was under amnesia]].
* SecretKeeper: Thanks to witnessing the true power of both Arthur and Sylvie while in the Dire Tombs, Elijah becomes privy to their secret. In turn, he elects to tell Arthur of his own MysteriousPast, trusting his newfound best friend to keep his secret in turn.
* SmartPeopleWearGlasses: Elijah is an intellectual person and him wearing glasses is a sign of that.
* SugarAndIcePersonality: When first introduced, Elijah appears to be a stoic and aloof individual. However after bonding with Arthur, he is revealed to have a warm side to his personality. From that point onward Elijah becomes much more extroverted than he was in the past, especially in Xyrus Academy where he gets to interact with kids his age, especially the ladies whom he attempts to crush on.
* TakenForGranite: {{Discussed}}. Arthur notes that if Elijah were to become talented enough given his unusual aptitude towards earth magic, he could potentially turn humans to stone.
* {{Transmutation}}: He has the ability to alter the structure of molecules and change them into earth. However, this capability of his is somewhat limited as while he can transmute the likes of wood, he cannot transmute air or water.
* UnskilledButStrong: Arthur notes that Elijah is rather powerful for an earth mage his age, but his lack of control over his power hampers him significantly. He feels glad that Elijah is his friend instead of his enemy as when he matures and becomes more powerful, Elijah could become a frighteningly dangerous opponent due to his unparalleled ability to manipulate earth and metal. [[spoiler:Little could Arthur know that such a possibility would eventually become a reality, though not in the way he expected]].
-->'''Elijah:''' It's easy to communicate with the earth, but my control is weak.
* VitriolicBestBuds: Has this dynamic with Arthur. [[spoiler:Which is tellingly the same from when they were Nico and Grey]].
