!Dekn

The sister race of the Arkn, the Dekn are a mutated, [[OurDemonsAreDifferent demon-like]] HumanSubspecies possessing [[HornedHumanoid horns]] and [[PsychicPowers mind-based powers]]. Their native home is the Elevrium, the companion realm to the Empyrium.

[[folder:In General]]
* AmazingTechnicolorPopulation: Most Dekn have the same skin tones as humans, with brown, tan, or olive-skinned. However, some of them have gray skin.
* CourtlyLove: While they are a sensual people (in comparison to the chaste Arkn), courtly love is an important aspect of Dekn society. They are many renowned books of romantic Dekn poetry.
* HornedHumanoid: The defining feature of the Dekn is their horns, which grow in various sizes and shapes. Unusually, while the horns are a consistent part of their anatomy, they can be turned into an incorporeal substance at will and retracted into a Dekn's skull when not in use.
* HornsOfVillainy Subverted; while all Dekn have horns, they are no more or less evil than humans.
* LongLived: Healthy Dekn live to be, on average, 1,000 years old. Redgrave was able to extend the lifespans of his family even longer through medical technology and biological enhancements (with other wealthy Dekn following suit).
* PsychicPowers: The primary powers of the Dekn are mind-based. All Dekn can use their horns to psychically connect to other members of their race, enabling them to read the surface-level thoughts and emotions of their fellow Dekn (as well as project messages, thoughts, images, and information directly into their minds). Additionally, Dekn can use their horns to connect directly to the Silulis, granting them an ability similar to telekinesis. (See Mind Over Matter.)
** Some Dekn have special, specified abilities on top of this. Some can cause mental "overloads", from hallucinations, to [[MindManipulation manipulated thoughts or emotions]], to [[MindRape inducing extreme mental and emotional anguish]]; others can apparently [[{{Technopath}} disrupt electronics]]; others can [[DreamWalker enter the dreams of others]] or manipulate them; still others can communicate with animals.
* MindOverMatter: Their psychic powers enable them to form a mental connection with the Silulic Horror; this creates a data ghost "twin" in the Silulis, which manipulates objects by moving and manipulating their data-based "counterparts" (creating an effect called Silulic Manipulation, which is similar to telekinesis).
* RedEyesTakeWarning: Many Dekn have blood red eyes.
* SupernaturalGoldEyes: Those who don't have red eyes have golden eyes.
* SwordAndSandal: During their First Age, they received visions of Sparta – and, subsequently, modeled their society after the Spartans, from their warrior culture, wardrobes...and taking "insufficient" members of society as slaves. They grew out of it in the Second Age.
* {{Telepathy}}: All Dekn possess telepathy, which allows them to read the surface-level thoughts and emotions, as well as project thoughts, images, and information into the minds of their fellow Dekn. Young Dekn are said to be taught to guard their thoughts and emotions from an early age.
* UnaffectedBySpice: The Dekn use spicy hot peppers as standard seasoning. Their food is said to be hot enough to scald the mouth.
[[/folder]]

!!Taveril'domaine
The capital of the Elevrium. It is the seat of the Dekn government, and is home to the Emperial family (among other things).

!!!'''Redgrave Family'''

[[folder: Emperor Jacques Redgrave]]
!!Jacques Redgrave, né Persophelus Redgrave
[[quoteright:320:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/redgraveunity_1.jpg]]
[[caption-width-right:320: Redgrave as a young man. By [[https://twitter.com/ArtamaPJ?t=PUJHHk-Rm2nDEKCodzjyFw&s=09 PJArtama]].]]
->'''Appears in''': ''Archives of the Scholar'' (mentioned), ''Of Scholars and Strings'', ''The Siren Saga'' (blog, mentioned)

->''“There’s one thing I want you to remember, young Faustus. There is always a choice -- always a change, always a circumstance, always a way to trick fate.”''

The former head of the Persophelum Renegade from Universe A. He crossed over into Universe X at its creation, becoming the father of Dekn civilization and its first Emperor.
----
* TheAce: He's an ancient, immortal Old World Dekn who founded the Persophelums, created .Reality, and was instrumental in the preservation of Humanity in the Old World. He not only survived the End Times, but witnessed the creation of the New World (and possibly the death of the Old) firsthand. He knows more about the ins and outs of Existence than anyone (outside of the Hethe themselves), and was instrumental in the development of the New World Dekn, the birth of their civilization, and the founding of their empire. Not to mention being the first Dekn to swear Inkaal’siitr -- a bond that lasted for ''two thousand years'' and produced at least three sons. And he did it all in [[SharpDressedMan a dapper red and black suit]].
* TheAgeless: He is said to be "locked in a state of timelessness", with an appearance that is somehow both young and old.
* DeadpanSnarker: Upon seeing his son for the first time in many years, he remarks, "I would think you would gather the whole Court here to greet me, Xerinos. You always were an ass-kisser."
* FounderOfTheKingdom: He helped orchestrate the evolution of Dekn society.
* HappilyMarried: He and Ama'dina were the first Dekn couple to swear Inkaal’siitr. They were married for nearly ''two thousand years'' before her death.
* TheHermit: He hid out for years on the edges of the Elevrium during its creation, only coming out of hiding after the Dekn had finished evolving. Centuries later, after the death of his beloved wife, he went into hiding once again -- this time in the realm of the Hethe.
* HeroicBluescreenOfDeath: After the death of his wife during the Arkn raid on Taveril'domaine -- which also started an Arkn-Dekn war in the New World -- he had a complete breakdown, and fled to [[EldritchLocation Calat]]. Only recently has he begun to come out of hiding and interact with others.
* LivingLegend: Zig-zagged. For at least two thousand years, he was revered as a near-mythical figure: a man from an unseen world who had watched over the birth of Existence and the evolution of the Dekn, taught the first Dekn how to use their powers, founded their civilization, and ruled as its first emperor. By the Third Age, however, his in-person appearances had become so scarce that people began to doubt the old stories and view him as an eccentric crackpot from a bygone era. Amongst his own sons and the Dekn Courts (who retain the knowledge of his true identity and importance), however, he is still regarded with awe and reverence.
* LivingRelic: He's one of the only living examples of an Old World Dekn.
* MentorArchetype: As a founder of the Dekn people ''as a whole'', teaching them to understand and wield their powers and orchestrating the birth of their civilization (and its culture), but he becomes the personal mentor of Franz Irinith-Faust in Act II of ''Staff of the Scholar''.
* TheMourningAfter: After Ama'dina was murdered, he fled to Calat to live in isolation with his grief. (Though said grief was influenced in equal part by the knowledge that Ama'dina's death had facilitated a new war between the Dekn and the Arkn.)
* RedAndBlackAndEvilAllOver: Subverted; while he dresses in red and black and generally looks (and [[VoiceOfTheLegion sounds]]) like a SatanicArchetype, Redgrave is not evil. (Though he is quite the snarker.)
* RedEyesTakeWarning: Averted: while his left eye is blood-red (as was the case for most Dekn of the Old World Dekn), Redgrave isn't evil.
* ShroudedInMyth: The true story of his origins has been all but lost to history. There isn't even a consensus amongst the Dekn on where he came from, or whether he was the first Dekn in inexistence.
* WhenYouComingHomeDad: When his sons were growing up, he was rarely home.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Empress Ama'dina Redgrave]]
!!Ama'dina Redgrave

The wife of Jacques and the mother of his sons. She was one of the first casualties of the Arkn-Dekn War, being killed in the first Arkn raid on Taveril'domaine.
----
* HappilyMarried: To Jacques, for nearly 2,000 years.
* MinorMajorCharacter: Her death (a probable murder during the first Arkn raid) was the inciting incident for the Arkn-Dekn war.
* MyBelovedSmother: She doted on her youngest son, Alphos'eli, to the point that his brothers teased him.
* PosthumousCharacter: She died long before any of the series' began.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Emperor Xerinos Redgrave]]
!!Xerinos Redgrave
->'''Appears in''': ''Staff of the Scholar'', ''Pink and Purple'' (mentioned)

The firstborn son of Jacques and Ama'dina. He is the sixth (and current) emperor of the Dekn.
----
* KilledOffForReal: [[spoiler: He was murdered by Marchosias for his title.]]
* OlderThanTheyLook: He has the appearance of an old man in his 80s or 90s, but in truth is (by all accounts) thousands of years old.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Idolyn "Ba'al" Redgrave]]
For tropes related to him, see his folder under ''Court of Masters''.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Alphos'eli Persophelus]]
For tropes related to him, see his folder [[Characters/ArknLegacyCorporationsOrganizationsAndOthers here]].
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Persophelus Samyaza Regent]]
!!Samyaza Regent
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/regent2.jpg]]
->'''Appears in''': ''The Ascension of an Outlier Seed'' (one-shot), ''Archives of the Scholar'' (mentioned)

->''“My name is Persophelus Samyaza Regent. You may, of course, also call me Regent, in the silly little books you will write about this beautiful, strange day.”''

A member of the Persophelum guild of the Old World and one of Redgrave's brothers.
----
* AwesomeAnachronisticApparel: He prefers to dress in ornate Baroque-era garb.
* BlackSpeech: He seems to possess the reality-altering Old World power of Hethian Speech -- and can still use it to some extent.
* GoodOldWays: Downplayed: he continues to speak the long-dead Old World Dekn language; however, he only does this around Redgrave, and he is capable of speaking multiple New World languages.
[[/folder]]

!!!'''The Dekn Courts'''

[[folder: In General]]

A [[StandardRoyalCourt group]] of Dekn who act as the utmost authorities on various specific matters within the Empire.
----
* AristocratsAreEvil: With the exception of Pruflas, every one of the Masters has a scandal of some sort in their past and has used their power (both supernatural and political) to commit atrocities at some point.
* AristocratTeam: The Masters collectively help manage various aspects of the empire, and all of them are regarded as nobles (though not all of them ''started out'' as such).
* AsskickingLeadsToLeadership: You don't become a Dekn Master by being a slouch; they've been judged to be the most powerful Dekn in the Empire (ability-wise), and are second in rank only to the emperor himself.
* DecadentCourt: The Court of Masters fits this ''to a T''. The Court of Lords, by contrast, is less corrupt (though not by much) and far more laid-back.
* EarnYourTitle: While many a Master was voted into their position by the Court of Lords, some were handpicked by the Emperor after winning the Master's Tournament.
[[/folder]]

!!!Court of Masters

[[folder:Sovereign Master Andras]]
!!Andras Senêrouxe As'phyxiar
->'''Appears in:''' ''Archives of the Scholar'', ''The Siren Saga'' (blog), ''Tales from the Dekn Court'', The Council chat (mentioned)
->'''Played by:''' [=SnarkySharky=] (voice)

->''"[I'm] [a] researcher and scientist, though I don’t think you have much of a right to ask. I am a savior to many of our race..."''
-->-- '''Andras''' in response to a reader of '''Franz Faust's''' blog

The [[KeeperOfForbiddenKnowledge Dekn Master of Forbidden Knowledge]] and current administrator of the Alunerium. He is the Anon who torments Faust over his blog, and eventually ropes Faust into a very one-sided deal. [[spoiler: He was also responsible for saving Shanna's life, holding it over her head even to this day.]]
----
* ArtificialLimbs: After Franz Faust mutilated his good hand with a scalpel, Andras had it replaced with a cybernetic U.M.E.E.C. attachment.
* BadassLabcoat: Averted: his long black, doctor's robe ''might'' have been impressive in a past life, but is now rather worn and filthy (due to getting splattered blood during surgery and [[{{Squick}} never laundered]]).
* BerserkButton: Unless you want to end up as his test subject, suffering the worst kind of MindRape or an agonizing death on his operating table, do ''not'' call him a coward for his experiments, or imply that he is not a hero to his people.
** Calling him "Andy" will earn you the same fate (unless you happen to be Marchosias or another Dekn Master).
* BullyingADragon: He's gone after the Miran'khai (the Arkn equivalent of the Yakuza According to Petrel Raverne, Andras previously abducted seven of his buddies in ) [[spoiler: and used them as test subjects in the December Project]]; now, targeting Petrel himself: the ''head'' of one of the most influential Miran'khai branches. Justified, as Andras is a ''very'' powerful Dekn Master with a direct line to the Emperor, and nearly untouchable in his own right.
* ButtMonkey: To Marchosias, oh ''so'' much. Since their college days, Marchosias has treated Andras as his subordinate (even though they've always been peers) and goes out of his way to embarrass and degrade him: taunting him, calling him embarrassing nicknames (like "Andy"), sending male prostitutes to his top secret laboratory, blackmailing him, and forcing him to do humiliating things (like kissing his shoes) when he disagrees with Marchosias's orders.
* CoolMask: He sports a bird-like PlagueDoctor mask.
* DarkIsEvil: He wears a long, black, old-fashioned doctor's coat.
* DeadlyDoctor: He's made great strides in virology, and has cured various Dekn-specific maladies (including [[https://at.tumblr.com/archives-of-the-scholar/thats-some-real-unethical-science-there-a-also/h98m25ldse72 cured]] Autheb Fever). However, he did so by experimenting on living subjects -- including his own people.
* DemonicPossession: His signature power, ''Morit’sengr Invokare'', functions like this: he forcibly enters the minds of others, making them see and experience things that aren't real. Unlike most examples of this trope, the effect continues even when he isn't actively controlling someone -– sometimes even when he's in ''another realm''.
* DemotedToDragon: He had this happen in relation to Marchosias in Act I of ''Staff of the Scholar'', much to his chagrin.
* EmbarrassingNickname: When he wants wants to twist the knife, Marchosias calls him "Andy".
* EvenEvilHasStandards: Crosses into {{Blue And Orange Morality}}. He's perfectly fine with cutting up other Dekn for his experiments in order to find out more about Dekn biology [[spoiler:and develop biological weapons]], but he's not okay with some of what Marchosias is doing to ''cease'' said experiments, (particularly as it involves his Beguilement powers), or what he does in the Society of the Purple Rose in general. This is the reason why he [[spoiler: offers Faust the initial deal to kidnap Ryael and Marchosias]].
* EvilGenius: He tends to come across as this. He's undoubtedly a brilliant doctor and scientist, but also fairly amoral.
* FatBastard: His human form is rather rotund.
* FauxAffablyEvil: Definitely behaves this way towards Faust and Shanna. When Faust insults his experiments, that's when [[VillainousBreakdown the mask finally drops]].
* GoodProstheticEvilProsthetic: His prosthetic hand is described as "needle-clawed and cruel".
* KarmicTransformation: Andras has devoted his life to perfecting methods to heal, alter, and transfigure the bodies of others, often via horrifying experiments that left the subjects irreparably maimed, disfigured, and insane (if not dead). His own body ends up being mutilated by Franz Irinith-Faust, losing an eye and one of the hands that he formerly used to mutilate unwilling subjects (to a ''half-blood'', no less). It doesn't end there: [[spoiler: he later nearly goes mad from listening to Pascal D’Aramitz's Silence Station, then unwittingly forms a psychic bond with For'ende Anathema-Elext, Franz's (also half-blood) partner, who received his severed eye as an engagement gift. And suffering ''more'' excruciating pain.]]
* KeeperOfForbiddenKnowledge: His title within the Dekn Court is "Master of Forbidden Knowledge," and he maintains a library of priceless information known as the Alunerium.
* LabCoatOfScienceAndMedicine: Subverted; his "lab coat" is just a normal overcoat.
* MadScientist: He regularly conducts brutal, unethical experiments on Arkn, Humans, and Dekn alike involving both psychological and biological manipulation.
* NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast: Do we really need to tell you that a guy named "Asphyxiar" is bad news?
* PlagueDoctor: His attire recalls one, with a long, dark coat and a bird-like, beaked mask.
* PoliticallyIncorrectVillain: Slips into this once or twice, as he usually calls Faust by his "dead-name" when he wants to twist the knife further on something.
* TestedOnHumans: During his medical career, he routinely conducted experiments on members of his own race in order to discover cures for various medical conditions. Currently, he's trying to "get back to his roots" with a new experiment involving five humans.
* TwinTelepathy: Andras and his sister, Annis, have this.
* WouldHurtAChild: He has no qualms about experimenting on Arkn or Human children, or inflicting psychological trauma [[spoiler: on Shanna Averil when she was just a girl]].
* YouKnowTooMuch: He arranged for his college professor and personal mentor, Reynard Xanthe, to be murdered, and had Ryael Morrow abducted and sent to Belial Casimir to be tortured (and probably killed) after they learned about the December Project.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Sovereign Master Camio]]
!!Camio Call’ombre
->'''Appears in''': ''Archives of the Scholar''

->''"Why did this door appear?”''

The Dekn Master of Whispers. Oversees spies and foreign intelligence.
----
* AmbiguousGender: While they use a male title ("Master", as opposed to the feminine "Mistress") their first name is an alternate spelling of "Cameo", a feminine name. Further confusing matters, they are described as wearing veils, a garment traditionally worn by women (particularly in the cultures of the Ottoman Empire and India, which inspired the Dekn in-universe).
* CoolMask: They are described as wearing a "strangely twisting mask" in court.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Sovereign Masterix Decarabia]]
!!Decarabia For’migar
->'''Appears in:''' ''Archives of the Scholar''

->''"Is there some way we can open [the door]?"''

The Dekn Masterix of War.
----
* AmbiguousGender: While the wiki gives their title as "Mistress", They are referred to as "Masterix" (a gender neutral term) in ''Archives''.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Master Marchosias]]
For tropes related to him, see [[Characters/ArknLegacyCorporationsOrganizationsAndOthers here]]
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Master Ba’al]]
!!Ba'alav Vrian’grave, né Idolyn Redgrave
->'''Appears in''': NA
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/baal_33.jpg]]
[[caption-width-right:250:Artist's depiction of Ba'al.]]

The Dekn Master of Thievery, Ba'al is the son of Persophelus Redgrave. He is a legendary thief.
----
* AffablyEvil: Evil? Certainly. But he is rather charming, and he can be civil when the occasion calls for it.
* ChaoticNeutral: He skirts the line between this and ChaoticEvil. He possesses all the cunning and trickery of his father, but with a ruthless, sometimes murderous ambition (and little of the altruism Redgrave displayed).
* CoolMask: He often covers his face with a [[http://68.media.tumblr.com/f32105d3a7139e47624898d9e8170a08/tumblr_ou3yv4CP5r1v06my0o1_1280.jpg demon mask]] etched with Dekn symbols, which appears to be carved from bone.
* TheGhost: He hasn't appeared, or been mentioned, in any media in the franchise yet.
* GodGuise: [[WordOfGod According to [=DeathlyLogic=]]] (who created the character), Ba'al handpicked his name from human lore about demons so he could instill fear in them.
* ImpossibleThief: Legends claim that he's pulled off some crimes that are physically impossible, even for magic-wielders; some of his thefts are even said to have confounded the Hethe -- [[BeyondTheImpossible one of whom was apparently his mark]].
* IdenticalGrandson: He bears a striking resemblance to his father, Jacques.
* PhantomThief: He is known as such.
* PowerTattoo: Like his father, he bears a Dekn symbol tattoo around (and under) his left eye.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: Ba'al's natural eye color is blood-red.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Master Mastema]]
!!Mastema Mohandas Luueth'dei
[[quoteright:300:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mastema_mohandas_luuethdei.jpg]]
->'''Appears in:''' ''The Siren Saga'' (blog), ''Society of the Purple Rose'' (blog), The Council chat (mentioned), ''The Taveril'domaine Trip''

->“We are a respected political Dekn family. We have a reputation to uphold with the other families and citizens around us...”

The Dekn Master of Dreams and Nightmares. He is the uncle of Ka'yel and Ka'rai. Secretly moonlights as a vigilante.
----
* CoolMask: He sports an elaborate royal blue, red, and gold mask during his vigilante work.
* FantasticRacism: He doesn't think very highly of humans, and was outraged when his niece revealed that she had married and had a family with a human man, disowning her from the family and calling her a "filthy half-breeding disgrace". Even though he regrets his harsh words, his feelings towards Kay's family have not changed.
* IDidWhatIHadToDo: He says this verbatim when talking to Ka'el about why he disowned her. He states that the Luueth'deis have worked hard to become an influential, respected political family, and that the news that one of their own had produced mixed-race children could have disgraced them all.
* MyGreatestFailure: He deeply regrets losing his bigoted, hateful treatment of Kay. (Though oddly, he stands by his reasons for doing so
* NiceGuy: He genuinely loves and cares about his family, and tries to help them in any way he can.
* VigilanteMan: After his wife Sombra, was murdered in the marketplace, he became a mask-wearing vigilante, hell-bent on taking revenge on the people who murdered her.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Master Pruflas]]
!!Pruflas Dandicat
->'''Appears In:''' ''Tales from the Dekn Court'', The Council chat (mentioned)

The Dekn Master of Shapeshifting and Secrets. He prefers to take the form of a horned, black-furred, humanoid lion.
----
* CatPeople: Often takes the form of a humanoid lion with black fur and horns.
* DarkIsNotEvil: He may have the appearance of a demonic, horned, black-furred lion, but he is a genuinely good, decent man.
* MeaningfulName: His surname is Dandicat; his most common form is that of a lion.
* TokenGoodTeammate: He's the most morally good, decent Dekn Master. He treats the servants of the court well; Nathali describes him as "honorable" and "a really good guy", and he's apparently very fatherly by nature. He's also the only Dekn Master who doesn't have a checkered past. (That we know of.)
* VoluntaryShapeshifting: His primary ability.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Master Lucifuge]]
!!Lucifuge Rofocale
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/25594026_353760428425111_4641145591823303190_n_7.jpg]]
->'''Appears in''': [=AilingDaydream=] (deleted), Shadow on the Sea (deleted), The Council, Inside District 5, misc. Discord RPs,

The Dekn Master of the Plague. The son of Penemue and an unknown Dekn, he was raised the adopted son of Zachriel. He is the father of Bobbie Harper.
----
* LikeFatherUnlikeSon: Unlike Zachriel, who is (for the most part) kind and compassionate, Lucifuge is a cold-hearted sadist.
* MadScientist: He has shades of this, being Andras's partner in the December Project, [[spoiler:in which they developed a horrifying bioweapon by testing it on prisoners – including their own people]].
* MysteriousParent: The identity of his father is completely unknown. What is known is that Zachriel killed him in cold blood -- and that he passed a murderous, sociopathic disposition on to Lucifuge.
* ParentalAbuse: He tells Bobbie virtually nothing about who and what he is, keeping him confined to his bedroom (on the basis of a lie that he has a health condition that will kill him). When Bobbie escapes, he has him captured, imprisoned in his room (again), and routinely beaten and tortured (both as punishment and to break his spirit).
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Mistress Vepar]]
!!Vepar Oshtai
->'''Appears in''': ''The Siren's Saga'' (blog), The Council chat

->''"I am a Mistress of the Court. We are nothing more and nothing less than equals, and soon, I will have the upper hand."''

The Dekn Mistress of Avarice and Fortune. She was the first appointed Dekn Lady of Syrinth.
----
* AmbiguouslyGay: Her consort is a woman, Nathali Sha'harzad, which suggests that she's a lesbian. However, her orientation has never been confirmed.
* TheCorruptor: She's vain, proud, and selfish -- and is currently grooming her adoptive daughter to be just like her.

->''"I have lived a long life, a once-arkn to now being a dekn. I have seen all things and remember all. I have a strange ability to tap into your memories whenever i just think of your names or see your user icons. It would be odd if any of you remembered me but here [I] am. Out of hiding. Ready for my next.... [s]tep.”''

The Dekn Lord of Memories and Devastation. Born an Arkn of [[WebOriginal/ArknUnity the Old World]], he was [[IHaveNoSon disowned]] for sympathizing with the Dekn cause, and subjected to the Bastard's Decay. Defecting to the Dekn, he mastered the art of harvesting memories, and went on to become a Dekn Lord. Following many misadventures on Earth with his friend, Coraline White, he survived through the end of the Old World and transferred over to Universe X.
----
* ADeadlyAffair: His wife, Penemue, cheated on him, and conceived "their" son, Lucifuge. He killed her and her lover for their infidelity.
* {{Bookworm}}: He has always been obsessed with books, learning, and preserving information. After being disowned by his family, he lived in the massive library of the Dekn, only leaving for a brief time. As a Dekn Lord, he became a librarian not only of books, but of memories; when he established a library of his own in the New World, the building held both.
* DeathByWomanScorned: A male inversion: Zachriel killed his wife, Penemue, for conceiving Lucifuge with another Dekn. He also murdered her lover.
* DemonicPossession: As an Old World Dekn, he can only exist in the human realm by possessing the bodies of others. His semi-permanent vessel is a young man named Cooper Hammish.
* GroinAttack: When he was given the Bastard's Decay, his genitals were removed along with his wings. This is how he knows Lucifuge isn't his biological son.
* HeelRealization: Towards the end of his life, he realized that he was only hurting others (and himself) by clinging to and preserving memories from the past. He acted accordingly, and burned his library to the ground (after entrusting the Librarians to Ka'el).
* InSeriesNickname: He is known as The Memoirist.
* KilledOffForReal: Drowned in a quarry after being shot by an unseen assailant.
* LeaveNoWitnesses: Subverted; he appears to be eliminating all witnesses of his destruction of the library and the murder of his bodyguards…until he lets Kay go (with the Librarians).
* LivingRelic: He's one of only three known non-Hethian survivors of the Old World (the others being Redgrave and Regent).
* MurderInTheFamily: He killed his wife, Penemue, for her infidelity some time after Lucifuge was born.
* NeverFoundTheBody: He allegedly drowned in a quarry after being shot. However, his body has never been found; his death has only been confirmed by his grandson, Bobbie, who witnessed it firsthand.
* OlderThanTheyLook: By the time he shows up in ''Legacy'', he is more than 3,000 years old; he looks no older than 22.
* TransferableMemory: His powers allow him to take, preserve, and transfer the memories of others.

->'''Appears in''': ''Tales From the Dekn Court''

A recently appointed Dekn Lord who serves as Pruflas Dandicat's clerk in the Dekn Court. [[spoiler: They are strongly implied to be a middle-stage Risen.]]
----
* AmbiguousGender: Initially, the character had no specified name or gender identity. By decision of the readers, they were named Ancarra and made gender non-binary.
* FishOutOfWater: In two ways: Juniper has human memories, and as such is unfamiliar with the Dekn world; Ancarra, meanwhile, has just been appointed a Dekn Lord, and as such doesn't know their way around the Dekn Court (or Taveril'domaine).
* NaiveNewcomer: They've just been appointed to their office.
* PastLifeMemories: When Ancarra first awakens at the start of the blog, [[spoiler:they experience extreme confusion, insisting that they're supposed to be human and being confused and frightened at the sight of their roommate's Dekn features (and their own). This implies that they've been remembering a past, human life in their sleep.]]
-->''That’s when you realize the problem here. [[spoiler: You are supposed to be human. You know...deep down in your bones, that you should be human in a human house going about your human life. Your name is Juniper, not Azure, and you are supposed to be human.]]''
* SplitPersonality: Ancarra seems to be developing this, with a human persona named "Juniper" [[spoiler:(who is implied to be their past human life)]] seemingly emerging when they're in an altered state.

Andras's unwilling lab assistant. Occasionally posts on Franz Faust's blog, beginning while Faust was imprisoned by Andras.
----
* AmbiguousGender: On Faust's blog[[note]]"Andras's Experiment [What I Know So Far]"[[/note]] Lutin is referred to as "our he/they on the inside".
* BeleagueredAssistant: They were forced into service as Andras's lab assistant. They hate it not only because they had no choice in the matter, but because they are ''horrified'' by Andras's amoral behavior and the experiments he carries out (which are also a painful reminder of the suffering ''they'' endured as a test subject).
* DoubleAgent: While serving as a (forcibly recruited) assistant to Andras, they are secretly spying on him (and others in the Dekn Court) for Faust, Forende, and Petrel, posting information to Faust's blog under the tag "#lute transmission".
* ForcedTransformation: Lutin is a human who was turned into a Dekn through Andras's genetic experiments. They are the only human on record to have successfully undergone such a transfiguration and survived.
* InSeriesNickname: They frequently shorten their name to "Lute".
* NoLastNameGiven: They simply give their name as "Lutin". However, they believe that their human surname was Léandre.

The secretary (and trusted friend) of Zachriel Rofocale. She is the ex-wife of Nicholas Renn, and the mother of Cadmus, Simon, Zoey, and Ambriel.
----
* AmbiguouslyGay: After at least a decade of being married to Nicholas, she realized she wasn't happy and left him, ending their marriage. Her next marriage was to a Dekn woman, and seems far happier. However, it isn't stated that Kay's sexuality was the reason why the marriage fell apart[[labelnote:*]](it's hinted that the rift the marriage caused between Kay and her family was a huge factor)[[/labelnote]], and it's never confirmed whether she's a lesbian or bisexual.
* {{Bookworm}}: Her love for books was the entire reason why she hid out in the library, and agreed to take the job as Zachriel's secretary. After Zachriel burned his library to the ground (shortly before his death), she established a new one – the Library of Remembrance – in his honor.
* CrashIntoHello: How she and Zachriel first met.
* HappilyMarried: She and Nicholas were seemingly happily married for 13 years before she left him, and they divorced; she is currently happily married to a Dekn woman.
* InSeriesNickname: She is known as "Kay".
* LikeBrotherAndSister: She and Zachriel were more like family than secretary and employer. They lived together for over ten years.
-->"Zachriel meant more to my mother than most people. She was probably the closest friend he had. They literally lived together for over a decade. A Decade. If that doesn’t tell you how close they were, I don’t know what will. She even had him present at her and Dad’s wedding…"
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: Kay gives one of the Purple Rose guards stationed at the Door a piece of her mind.
-->“A peace-loving charity that believes in the power of Elucidis who believes that all will be well if you give in to him? Don’t give me that crap. This “society” is nothing more than a fabrication created in the mind of a twisted monster in the body of a man. You’ve been lied to. Conditioned to follow him and his so-called “beliefs”. He’s using you to get what he wants.”
* SignatureHeadgear: Like her son, she frequently sports a knit beanie. (Hers is gray in color.)

A televangelist from Taveril'domaine and a follower of some radical Hethian religion that is slowly changing Dekn society for the worse.
----
* AxCrazy: Not only is he the craziest character in the entire series, Pascal also wants other people to be just as insane as he is.
* TheCorrupter: His Silence Station [[BrownNote affects those who listen to it]], making his adherents more subservient to his manipulations and attempts at brainwashing.
* DarkMessiah: Pascal is the voice--and presumably, the head--of a ReligionOfEvil that worships all the negative aspects of the Hethe.
* DystopiaJustifiesTheMeans: His ideal society is one where people are made to love the Hethe for giving them nothing but suffering and death.
* GoMadFromTheRevelation: Pascal was driven to madness from the contents of his dreams, stirred to preaching his fearful sermons from that.
* StrawNihilist: A strange mix between this, TheAntiNihilist and TheFundamentalist--Pascal is completely in love with the idea of the Hethe being JerkassGods and how life would be meaningless without them to keep their creations in constant fear--in other words, Pascal's own nihilism is enough to give him purpose and faith.
