The central group of [=SMG4=]'s videos. Also known in some circles as "the [=SMG4=] Crew".
----
[[foldercontrol]]

[[folder:Overall]]
* ActionGirl: Over the years, this series developed no fewer than FIVE…
** Princess Peach in the early days of the series, having proven to be one heck of a reliable ally [[ButtMonkey when not the butt of everyone's jokes]]. Even being reduced to a minor side character does very little in diminishing this, as "Food Wars" demonstrate when she goes full-on ''[[VideoGame/TeamFortress2 Saxon Hale]]'' on the whole gang with zero effort.
** Meggy Spletzer not only lives and breathes this trope, she ''embodies'' it. Being a multitalented athlete who trains hard for Splatfest, she pretty much has a sense to get out of any sticky situation that she and her friends get into. Even after being turned into a human due to the events of the Anime Arc, she can still kick all kinds of evil in the face.
** While not as badass as her friends, Tari still deserves a mention, as her wits and gamer skills end up helping her friends on more than one occasion, [[spoiler:such as beating Waluigi in his own game by taking control of [=SMG4=] and charges directly at him, caught him by surprise, enough to break his hold on his T-Pose Zombie army and free her friends.]]
** Saiko Bichitaru is known for doing this on a fairly daily basis, especially if she's pissed. [[spoiler:Francis learned this the hard way after he killed off Desti, with her throwing the leader of the Anime Cartel into one of his Ink-Zuccer machines set to "Maximum Zucc" and [[ThereIsNoKillLikeOverkill leaves him to be painfully drained of his life-force on his own island which is about to self-destruct]].]]
** Once an ordinary watermelon, bonding with the Fierce Deity Mask not only granted Melony a human body, but also the powers of a god, which she is not afraid to use to protect her friends and loved ones… even at the risk of losing control. [[spoiler:Come the Revelations Arc, she's fully mastered these powers.]]
* AerithAndBob: The group’s membership consists of basic names like Mario, Luigi, Toad, Steve, Peach, Bob, Meggy and Melony, but also more bizarre names like [=SMG4=], Bowser, Fishy Boopkins, Axol, Saiko, Tari and Shroomy.
* AndThenJohnWasAZombie: [[spoiler:Nearly all of the main cast were turned into T-Pose Zombies on two separate occasions, though while both times were averted, it takes a BigDamnHeroes from a new character to work the second time it happened.]]
* BadassCrew: So, ''so'' much. The Anime Arc pretty much cements this status.
* CanonForeigner: All of the [[OriginalGeneration fully original characters]] are this due to the show primarily featuring characters originating from existing video games.
* DemotedToExtra: Peach, Bowser, Toad, and Steve, who were all major characters in the series's early days, are now recurring side characters. Between all of them, Bowser and Steve appear the most.
* TheFriendsWhoNeverHang: Inevitable with a cast of so many characters. Some examples are [=SMG4=] with Meggy; Luigi, Toad, and Meggy (Toad hates everyone and Luigi gels better with Tari); and Peach with most of the modern additions to the main cast. [[SubvertedTrope Slowly subverted as the series goes on, however]].
* InvisibleParents: With the exception of Boopkins[[labelnote:*]] (whose father is a recurring side character)[[/labelnote]] and Saiko[[labelnote:*]] (who doesn't have parents due to being a video game character brought to life)[[/labelnote]], very little is known about the gang's parents (or family in general), with them mentioned ''very'' infrequently or, in some cases, never at all. In the case of the Mario characters, this carries over from [[Franchise/SuperMarioBros their home franchise]].
* LaterInstallmentWeirdness: Starting in early 2024, dialogue from Fishy Boopkins, Bob, and Shroomy have been subtitled. This is quite the change, since all three of them were allowed to speak without subtitles for years.
* NiceMeanAndInBetween:
** Nice: [[CowardlyLion Luigi]], [[TheIngenue Tari]], [[CuteButCacophonic Boopkins]], [[NiceGuy Axol]], and [[SleepyHead Melony]].
** Mean: [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold Mario]], [[TheCynic Toad]], [[CuteAndPsycho Saiko]], and [[GloryHound Bob]].
** In-Between: [[NotSoAboveItAll SMG4]], [[CompetitionFreak Meggy]], [[SplitPersonality Shroomy]], [[WellIntentionedExtremist Peach]], [[CloudCuckooLander Steve]], and [[AffablyEvil Bowser]].
* NothingIsTheSameAnymore: Some of these characters go through permanent body or design changes.
** Meggy goes from Inkling to human after [[spoiler:sacrificing her ink]] in the Anime Arc.
** Axol got a rather nasty scar on his eye and slightly different clothes during his time in the Internet Graveyard.
** Melony goes from a (mostly) inanimate watermelon to a humanoid after bonding with a Fierce Deity Mask.
** Saiko got a graphical update after bonding, both figuratively and literally, with Kaizo.
** [=SMG4=], [=SMG3=], Fishy Boopkins, and Bob received original designs following the conclusion of the Lawsuit Arc after reaching an agreement with Nintendo.
** While Tari's redesign qualifies under this as well, it should be noted that unlike the others, hers isn't given an InUniverse explanation.
* OriginalGeneration: Whereas the other characters were established from another franchise or were multicolored Marios, all of the newcomers since Shroomy have been completely original characters. Meggy's transformation into a human would later cement her as one too. Later than that, the in-universe Nintendo's forced redesigns of [=SMG4=], [=SMG3=], Fishy Boopkins, and Bob would have them follow suit.
* RagtagBandOfMisfits: Let's see, we have… a dumbass [[Franchise/SuperMarioBros Italian plumber and his cowardly brother]], a meme-obsessed PaletteSwap of said Italian plumber (at least before his redesign), an [[Franchise/{{Splatoon}} Inkling]] turned human, a GamerChick with a [[ArtificialLimb cyborg arm]], the reptilian king of a rival kingdom [[TrademarkFavouriteFood who loves chicken nuggets]] and is [[HilariouslyAbusiveChildhood the world's worst father]], an anthropomorphic otaku fish creature, a self-serving and [[AllMenArePerverts extremely perverted]] guy in a cloak, a CuteButPsycho {{Yandere}} with a mallet, a CrazyPrepared [[ScoutOut Boy Scout]] [[spoiler:with a [[VideoGame/Doom2016 Doom Slayer-level]] SuperpoweredEvilSide]], an axolotl with ''mangaka''-level drawing skills armed with an [[RealityWarper omnipotent fountain pen]] that brings drawings to life, and a watermelon who was given human form and superpowers from a mask. And that's not even counting its supporting members, which consist of a crazy monarch with her grumpiest mushroom-headed servant and [[VideoGame/{{Minecraft}} one of the most iconic video game characters of the 2010s]]. At this point, "ragtag" is an ''{{Understatement}}!''
* VitriolicBestBuds: They rag, annoy and beat on each other on a daily basis, but you can bet that they ''will'' be there for each other in dire situations. This was best shown in the Anime Arc, when [=SMG4=] and his crew decidedly fights to [[spoiler:save Meggy]] despite the thin odds of surviving [[spoiler:Francis and Axol's stolen Inkweaver]].
-->'''[=SMG4=]''': You don't understand. It's either we leave [[spoiler:with Meggy]], or not leaving at all!

The creator of the bloopers and part of the BigGood Ensemble of the series alongside Mario. He resides in the castle with Mario (specifically the room housing Peach's Secret Slide[[labelnote:*]] although that room is heavily implied in ''Super Mario 64 DS'' to be part of Peach's own bedroom[[/labelnote]]), often making bloopers, and gets generally annoyed by Mario, but he likes him nonetheless.
----
* AlwaysSomeoneBetter: He's this to [=SMG3=], and would regularly kick his ass weekly in the old days.
* AmbiguouslyHuman: "[=SMG4's=] Origins" reveals that he and [=SMG3=] came from massive flash drives filled with memes [[TheCorruption that made people crazy]], making it unclear if they're aliens or some kind of [[AnthropomorphicPersonification personification of memes]].
* AmnesiacHero: In "[[OriginsEpisode Mario Babies]]", it's revealed that he doesn't remember anything prior to his first appearance in "Account Loss". "[=SMG4's=] Origins" reveals why; he came from a massive, meme-filled flash drive that fell from the sky into the Mushroom Kingdom that turned (almost) everyone else into crazy idiots.
* AntiVillain: In "Mario's Illegal Operation". He only works as a member of the Anime Secret Service due to a promise to Princess Peach and makes it clear that he doesn't really want to use force against Mario and the gang. [[spoiler:He's later horrified at the fact that the anime ban forced Saiko to leave the Mushroom Kingdom in order to avoid persecution then, as "The Japan Trip" shows, helps her overturn the ban.]]
* AppropriatedAppellation: According to [[https://twitter.com/smg4official/status/1687539324785459213 this tweet]], the reason that [=SMG4=] made his new castle look like a circus tent was because everyone called him a clown, so he decided to embrace it.
* ArtEvolution: Starting with ''IT'S GOTTA BE PERFECT'', [=SMG4=]'s redesign was updated with a new model, which is more detailed and expressive than his old one. It also features some new design elements, such as blue eyes and an updated insignia.
* TheAtoner: After his actions as a result of his insanity led to Peach's castle [[spoiler:getting swallowed by an EldritchAbomination]] in ''IT'S GOTTA BE PERFECT'', he resolves to make up for it by building a new and better castle. This drives the plot for several episodes in 2023 (Season 13).
* AudienceWhatAudience: More than once he has spoken directly to the viewers, only for the camera to cut to a wide shot and reveal he's taking to a wall, with the rest of the cast looking at him like he's crazy.
* AuthorAvatar: Represents the character '''and''' the series as a whole. To avoid confusion, he's not ''[[BarrierMaiden the]]'' avatar. [[spoiler:That's Mario.]] He also fails to recognize his real world counterpart in Revelations, but remarks that he looks strangely familiar.
* AxCrazy: A rare heroic version, but he can be quite unstable when pissed off. "[=MAR10=] DAY" in particular has him go into a blind rampage on the [=Mar10=] Day celebration with all of his pent-up fury for the sake of completing his "perfect video".
* BadassAdorable: He's nerdy, [[NiceGuy friendly]], and takes on [[SerialKiller serial killers]] and other AxCrazy monsters on a daily basis, and trumps them regularly.
* BadassNormal: Unlike Mario, he doesn't have any weird powers. His wits and that is enough. [[{{Subverted}} Well, he's normal without [=SMG3=].]] ''With'' him, they can control [[PureEnergy meme energy]] and empower Mario with it.
* BenevolentBoss: He's Mario's, and is '''''extremely''''' patient with him.
* BerserkButton: '''Don't touch his computer.''' Don't change the color of his gloves. Don't steal his password or give it to another person, [[spoiler:especially if said culprit is [=SMG3=].]] Most of all, DO NOT PISS OFF NINTENDO IN HIS NAME. Meggy learnt the last one the hard way.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: He's a NiceGuy, but don't get on his bad side.
* BigEater: While not as much as Mario, he can still eat his fair share in food. "Mario University" reveals that he was the one who ate most of the food in the college cafeteria. And while waiting for a challenge to finish in "Mario Does Literally Anything For Views", a veritable ''mountain'' of [=McDonald's=] and pizza boxes can be seen behind him after a timeskip.
* BigGood: As the leader of the Glitchy Gang, as well as one of the few characters to be TheHero alongside Mario.
* BroughtToYouByTheLetterS: Literally! In the same vein as Mario, his hat is emblazoned with a blue "S".[[note]] Pre-2022, as a Mario recolor, his model would sometimes have Mario's red "M" instead, but that was a production oversight.[[/note]]
* ButtMonkey: Not usually, but he does catch hell in a few episodes.
* CainAndAbel: The Abel to [=SMG3=]'s Cain.
* CharacterCatchphrase: "Goddammit, (insert character here)!"
* CharacterizationMarchesOn: When his primary role was to be Mario's StraightMan he was more grumpy and aloof, not really leaving the castle much. Somewhere around 2019, he became more jovial and sociable.
* CloudcuckoolandersMinder: Often serves as this to Mario.
* CosmicKeystone: We're shown that [=SMG4=] making meme videos is very crucial for the universe.
* TheComicallySerious: At least when around Mario.
* ADayInTheLimelight: "The Day [=SMG4=] Posted Cringe" and "[=SMG4=] Runs Out Of Memes", among other earlier ones. "The Japan Trip" counts too, mostly through not sharing his screentime with Mario.
* DeadpanSnarker: Only when dealing with Mario's silliness. Usually he's pretty average.
* DeathGlare: Gives these to Mario and [=SMG3=] all the time.
* DemonicPossession: After he starts working on his "Perfect Video", he starts losing his sanity, alienates himself from his friends while becoming increasingly aggressive and continues to keep saying "[[MadnessMantra It's gotta be perfect]]" and eventually writes it repeatedly on the walls of his room with a 100 hour livestream of him working showing his workspace continuing to get darker every 24 hours. When [=SMG3=] and Meggy attempt to try and snap him out of it during an announcement video however, [[spoiler:he appears to have actually been expecting them while saying "it's gotta be perfect" three times as his face becomes nightmarish the third time while strange symbols appear around him and his voice gets as deep as it did when he used the anti-meme energy in the Revelations movie]].
* DependingOnTheWriter: The series has few writers (mostly Kevin), but he still falls into this.
** He can either be [[LazyBum hanging out in the castle]] or out actively filming videos.
** He can either act as Mario's minder or be [[NotSoAboveItAll just as insane as him]].
* DepravedKidsShowHost: He's one of these in "Ssenmodnar 12: Stolen Spaghetti Edition".
* {{Deuteragonist}}: Normally has this role in arcs where Mario is the main protagonist like The Waluigi Arc and The [=YouTube=] Arc.
* DoesNotLikeSpam: He hates spaghetti.
* DrunkWithPower: [[spoiler:Ends up admitting that anti-meme energy feels good when he and [=SMG3=] absorb it in ''Revelations'' and they almost kill Melony ''and'' themselves trying to attack the former's ship with that power]].
* TheDitz: When he's this he can be just as stupid as ''Mario''.
* EmpoweredBadassNormal: Downplayed, as he had these powers with him the whole time, but he couldn't use them until he learned to work with [=SMG3=].
* EveryoneHasStandards:
** He may be really annoyed with [=SMG3=] whenever he does something evil but, after the Genesis Arc, he does ''not'' want [=SMG3=] dead.
** Creator/{{Nintendo}} is the one company he will '''''[[TheDreaded not]]''''' mess with, as he knows that one wrong move can cost him and the others dearly. [[spoiler:He's notably terrified when he learns about Meggy's BigDamnHeroes moment, knowing they will retaliate severely, and "Mario Can't Play With You Anymore…" proves that Nintendo can and will get nasty when someone crosses them.]]
* {{Flanderization}}: With the introduction of Meggy and other characters to play foil to Mario's foolishness, he went from being the well-rounded straight man and foil to Mario's antics to simply "the meme man" as of 2017. The Cosmology Saga created new depths with his meme man persona, including further explorations of his true origins.
* {{Foil}}: To Mario, most of the time. To [=SMG3=] for the rest.
* {{Foreshadowing}}: During the Lawsuit Arc, his temporary IP contract changes him into a form that resembles his appearance outside the show (i.e. posters and merch). At the end of the arc, he takes on this form permanently to avoid any more trouble with Nintendo.
* FreakOut:
** Undergoes one in "Problematic Pipe Problems" from the thought of becoming an old man. It persists for the rest of the blooper, to the point where he goes into a pipe labelled "Gay bar" instead of the actual exit.
** Has another one during "Freddy's Ultimate Custom Spaghetteria" when the flood of comments telling him to make the blooper become too much.
** Has one when he realizes that he can't remember his past at the end of "Mario Babies".
** He has a ''massive'' one at the end of ''[=MAR10=] Day'' when the wi-fi router gets knocked out after spending several weeks locked in his room, resulting in him beating up Wario and Waluigi, throwing everyone out of the castle, fixing the router with little effort, and chewing out Mario and the gang before returning to his room.
* TheHero: Alongside Mario, he has the most appearances in the series, being around since the first season and appearing in a large majority of the show’s episodes. He also shares this role with Melony in the Cosmology Lore Trilogy, with him being the primary focus of the saga alongside the other [=SMGs=].
* InkSuitActor: His design from WOTFI 2022 onward is heavily based on Luke Lerdwichagul. Even before this design became his official look in the show, most merchandise of [=SMG4=] resembled Luke more than Mario [[WritingAroundTrademarks to avoid copyright infringement]].
* InnocentBlueEyes: With the exception of his design between the Lawsuit Arc and "It's Gotta Be Perfect", he has these, and is sort of the BigGood of the series.
* {{Leitmotif}}: The ''VideoGame/SuperMarioLand'' overworld theme. Not only is the theme often used for the end credits, but some of his standalone scenes use it, like when he's advertising for help editing his videos in "How To Train Your Mario", and in ''IT'S GOTTA BE PERFECT'' where a depressing piano version plays [[spoiler:as he mourns the loss of Peach's castle]]. As icing on the cake, his 10th Anniversary Song is the theme WithLyrics.
* LetsGetDangerous: When pissed off. Doubly so if it involves [=SMG3=].
* LightIsGood: He wears white overalls, in contrast to [=SMG3's=] black.
* MadnessMantra: Starting from "Mario Steals The Constitution", he keeps muttering "It's gotta be perfect" repeatedly, primarily while working on his "perfect video".
-->'''[=SMG4=]''': It's gotta be perfect...it's gotta be perfect...
* ManlyTears: Sheds these in "IT'S GOTTA BE PERFECT" when [[spoiler:he witnesses the destruction of Peach's castle and apologizes to his friends for causing it]].
* MoralityPet: To Mario, ''barely''.
* NiceGuy: Other than the times he gets frustrated with Mario's stupidity or {{Jerkass}} behavior, he's pretty friendly and outgoing.
* NiceJobBreakingItHero:
** [[spoiler:His suspicions about [=SMG3=]'s new studio in ''Mario's Spicy Day 🔥'' end up being unfounded, and winds up driving [=SMG3=] [[ThenLetMeBeEvil back into villainy]], making him the ArcVillain of the [=YouTube=] Arc.]]
** His SanitySlippage when working on his "perfect video" leads to a chain of events that [[spoiler:get Peach's castle destroyed... permanently, this time]].
* NiceMeanAndInBetween: Is the "In Between" of a trio with Mario and Luigi. While a pretty affable and sane guy most of the time, [[BewareTheNiceOnes pissing him off is still a really bad idea]]. He's also not above going along with Mario's crazy antics from time to time.
* NotWhatISignedOnFor: During the Anime Arc, he's initially in favor of Peach's anime ban and joins the Anime Secret Service, serving as a HeroAntagonist throughout the majority of "Mario's Illegal Operation". When he discovers that said ban [[spoiler:also applies to animesque ''characters'' like Saiko]], he's disgusted and quits, stating outright that he never would've joined the A.S.S. had he known that was the case.
* PaletteSwap: One of the most famous examples. He is (or ''was'') a recolor of Mario with a blue shirt and white overalls, contrasting Mario's red shirt and blue overalls.[[note]] There turns out to be a very important reason for this – He is actually a Super Meme Guardian, a being who copies the form of their avatar, Mario in [=SMG4's=] case. According to Luke, his color scheme was a completely random choice, and he had no idea [[VideoGame/DonkeyKong Stanley]] and the host of the ''Super Mario Challenge'' had the same color scheme. This ends up being [[SubvertedTrope subverted]] at the end of the Lawsuit Arc, as [=SMG4=] is forced to permanently change his appearance as a stipulation of winning the case.[[/note]]
* ThePerfectionist: Slowly becomes this after "[=SMG4=]... Are You OK?" as he begins to work on his "perfect video". [[spoiler:It's heavily implied that DemonicPossession might have a hand in this though.]]
* PersonOfMassConstruction: In "Final Fantasy Mario", he uses his new AnIcePerson magic to create handy things (a LivingSnowman, a giant [[VideoGame/MarioBros Freezie]], a defensive glacier wall, etc.) for himself, Mario, and Meggy.
* ProneToTears: This is ''especially'' evident in the post-Lawsuit Arc episodes.
* PunnyName: People often forget that his (original) full name is a pun on ''Super Mario 64''. Even [=SMG4=] himself doesn’t remember this (but Luke does).
* RageBreakingPoint: The internet going out near the end of "[=MAR10=] Day" thanks to Wario's HostileShowTakeOver is ''the'' final straw for him, to the point where he kicks everyone sans his main friends out, and even throws out an actual PrecisionFStrike at Mario before locking himself back in his room.
* RedOniBlueOni: The blue to Mario's red. [[ColorCodedForYourConvenience This is further emphasized by the color of their hats]].
* SanitySlippage:
** After the 10 year anniversary special, he isolates himself in the castle's basement for two weeks and spends his time there theorizing heavily on Zero, quickly driving himself into insanity.
** After "[=SMG4=]... Are You OK?", he isolates himself in his room to work heavily on his "perfect video", quickly pushing himself to the brink of insanity. It gets so bad that [=SMG3=] has to fill in for him to do the EnforcedPlug for "Mario Steals The Constitution". Come the ending of "[=MAR10=] DAY", [=SMG4=] has ''completely lost his cool,'' and expresses it with such harsh force by [[NoIndoorVoice screaming at the top of his lungs at everyone]], beating the hell out of Wario and Waluigi, kicking everyone out of the castle, restarting the router with little effort, and [[KickTheDog cursing out Mario when he tries to tell him about the main event]]. [[SugarWiki/HeReallyCanAct Major props to Luke Lerdwichigual for his impressive performance during the scene]]. [[spoiler:However, the video released afterwards heavily implied that DemonicPossession might be a factor in his insanity.]]
* SensitiveGuyAndManlyMan: As of the Cosmology Saga, he's the Sensitive Guy to [=SMG3=]'s Manly Man.
* SeriesMascot: He is the face of the franchise, from the channel icon to his hat being the series' logo.
* SeriousBusiness: Memes are everything to him, both in the bloopers and in real life.
--> "Don't forget the memes!"
* SpontaneousMustache: Although his post-WOTFI 2022 design normally lacks facial hair, he can still grow a moustache on the spot whenever he needs to do a Mario-style WildTake.
* SuddenlyVoiced: Originally silent outside of voice clips, starting in 2019, Luke voices his character. While initially in the short-phrase style over full sentences like Tari, this evolved into full voice acting by 2020.
* SuspiciouslySimilarSubstitute: During the announcement video released after the 100 hour live stream, [=SMG3=] and Meggy find him even more insane than before. When [=SMG3=] confronts him, [=SMG4=] was seemingly expecting them and continues to say his MadnessMantra with the last shot of him showing him with a nightmare face and symbols similar to the one's [=SMG0=] had in the buildup to WOTFI 2021.
* TookALevelInJerkass: His gradual SanitySlippage following "[=SMG4=]... Are You OK?" leads to him becoming more and more anti-social and shunning himself out from the rest of his friends and refusing to partake in their activities in favor of trying to create his perfect video. It got to the point where he even derailed a Mario Does Things video to continue working on the perfect video on Mario's computer thanks to the internet being down on his end. It reached its head during "[=MAR10=] DAY" where he goes on a mindless rampage after Wario's HostileShowTakeover during the [=Mar10=] Day party knocks out the internet router, and ends with him lashing out at the others. [[spoiler:The following movie, however, does imply that this had something to do with DemonicPossession from his [[NonIndicativeName Completely Regular Keyboard]].]] [[TookALevelInKindness He does get better]] [[spoiler:[[MyGodWhatHaveIDone once his actions lead to the castle being destroyed and promptly consumed by the keyboard]]]].
* TrademarkFavouriteFood: Pineapple pizza, [[PineappleRuinsPizza much to everyone else’s chagrin]].
* WonderTwinPowers: By holding hands with his partner Guardian, they can channel the meme energy of the universe to RealityWarper levels. Unfortunately, his partner Guardian is his mortal enemy [=SMG3=], and neither is happy with the arrangement. They get more comfortable with it later on.
* YouWereTryingTooHard: Often ends up falling victim to this when trying to increase his popularity, particularly in videos like "[=SMG4=] Runs Out Of Memes" and "Mario Does Literally Anything For Views". Taken to the extreme in "[=SMG4=]... Are You Okay?" where when [=SMG3=] genuinely succeeds [=SMG4=] in terms of popularity that he gets recognized by "Mr. Yeast", [=SMG4=] becomes so obsessed with improving his channel's popularity that he completely forgets that quality is better than quantity and ends up going ''completely'' downhill, necessitating that [=SMG3=] of all people had to put him back on the right track. Unfortunately, this time it has the opposite effect on him and he starts working on his "Perfect Video" at the cost of his sanity while alienating himself from his friends and becoming increasingly aggressive [[spoiler:with it later being implied that DemonicPossession might also be a factor in this]].

Part of the series’s BigGood Ensemble. Mario is a moronic jackass with an [[TrademarkFavoriteFood obsession for spaghetti]], a HairTriggerTemper, sociopathic tendencies and an idiot to the highest degree.
----
* AbusiveDad: Considering his father's first actions at his birth were voicing how ugly and horrifying he was, immediately attempting to ''kill'' him on the spot to "prevent him from laying eggs", and finally callously throwing him out the window, leaving him to grow up without any semblance of parental love, it's easy to explain why Mario is the way he is. Averted in later episodes [[{{Retcon}} where it's heavily implied]] Creator/ShigeruMiyamoto himself is Mario's dad. Miyamoto clearly cares about Mario but is too much of a CloudCuckoolander to be of any real help.
* {{Acrofatic}}: Zigzagged. Mario usually has a hard time physically exerting himself, but he has a surprisingly high level of agility when he has a clear goal in mind.
* AdaptationalComicRelief: While Canon Mario can have his amusing moments, ''this'' Mario is a clown through and through. [[LetsGetDangerous Except for the parts where he has to get serious.]]
* AdaptationalDumbass: '''This point cannot be emphasized enough.''' With the way he is, one has to wonder how he even made it to adulthood. [[spoiler:"[=SMG4's=] Origins" reveals he wasn't always dumb.]]
* AdaptationalJerkass: In this series, Mario is portrayed as a selfish, amoral JerkAss obsessed with [[TrademarkFavoriteFood spaghetti]], a stark contrast to his more traditionally heroic depiction in Nintendo's games. [=SMG4=] admitted in a 2015 [=QnA=] that the reason behind this is because he thought the generic hero character would be boring. Increasingly Subverted since 2016, while he's still largely amoral and selfish, he has largely [[TookALevelInKindness taken a level in kindness]] and does genuinely care about his friends. Subverted further in "[=SMG4=]’s Origins", where it’s revealed [[spoiler:he was like his game counterpart before the arrival of [=SMG4=].]]
* AesopAmnesia: He gets this a lot in the series, and it gets ''really'' bad at a few points. One moment he could be mourning the presumed loss of his friends and a few episodes later he might be willing to kill them all.
* AffectionateNickname: "Red", courtesy of Meggy.
* AmbiguouslyBi: He was in a relationship with Peach during the earlier episodes, but there were some male characters he admitted he would "Smash" in "Smash or Pass". Of course, his one true [[TrademarkFavouriteFood love]] points him in a direction other than gender.
* AnimationBump: Since [=TheInvertedShadow=] joined Glitch Productions, Mario's animation has become more smooth and flowing in comparison to his ragdoll movements in other videos, a good example of this being in the ''WebAnimation/SMG4Crew'' sub-series.
* AntiHero: Has shades of ClassicalAntiHero with his idiocy and generally being a loser at life, but also has bits of the modern variety with him being a [[JerkAss total prick]] and actually being the ''cause'' of the situations the main cast get involved with. However, he slowly begins shedding this with a more GoodIsNotNice disposition.
* ArtShift: Frequently shifts between his ''Videogame/SuperMario64'' model (rendered in either [=SM64=] itself when using movement or in Garry's Mod when in ragdoll mode) and a Wii-era or Super Mario Odyssey Mario model depending on what's funnier for the moment. Other times he can become a sprite drawn in one of several styles.
* AttackOfThe50FootWhatever: In addition to the various times where he grew himself via power-up or magic spell, he can become this if the [=SMGs=] use their powers to transmute memes into him.
* AwesomenessByAnalysis: [[SmartBall He has a rare moment of this]] in "Stupid Mario World", when, after he and Yoshi get knocked off of Rainbow Road and sent flying towards Earth, Mario somehow manages to calculate the exact area of Bowser's bouncy castle and lands both himself and Yoshi into it perfectly.
* AxCrazy: At times. He once threatened [=SMG4=] with a knife for asking if he can have some of his spaghetti.
* BarbieDollAnatomy: Whenever Mario is naked, this trope applies.
* BarrierMaiden: [[spoiler:As the Avatar of the [=SMG4-verse=], the entire universe will be destroyed if he dies.]]
* BerserkButton:
** Insulting, disrespecting or even ''saying'' that spaghetti is anything but delicious is a good way to make him come after you. Denying him of it is even worse.
** Don't say ''WesternAnimation/DoraTheExplorer'' is stupid and boring. Otherwise, he'll open up a premium can of ass whooping on you.
** Don't hurt his brother ''or'' his friends, ''especially'' Meggy. "Mario and the T-Pose Virus", for example, gives us a ''massive'' one in the form of Bob leaving his brother Luigi to die. Mario goes straight into TranquilFury mode before throwing Bob off Peach's Castle without a second thought when this one was pressed, and [[spoiler:he punches Wario and is ready to further fight him for electrocuting and then threatening Luigi]].
** ''WebAnimation/SMG4Crew'' establishes that ''VideoGame/AmongUs'' is one for him. In the fifth video, he threatens to eat Frankie’s limbs [[DisproportionateRetribution because he posted an Among Us meme]].
* BewareTheSillyOnes: He's a lazy, unintelligent, spaghetti-obsessed idiot… but when spaghetti is insulted or his friends are harmed, ''steer clear''.
* BigBrotherInstinct:
** He has his moments toward Luigi. Most notably in "Mario and the T-Pose Virus". When [[DirtyCoward Bob]] obstructs the pathway to the roof, leading to Luigi becoming a T-Pose Zombie, Mario is ''furious'' and throws Bob off of the roof without hesitation.
** He also has this towards Meggy to an almost heartwarming degree. [[spoiler:This is best shown in the Anime Arc on two occasions. First in "Meggy's Bootcamp" when he comforts a crying Meggy by offering her ''his'' spaghetti and assuring her that his friends will be with her when she's down; and then in "Final Hours" when he digs through the rubble and remains of the destroyed Ink-Zuccer 3000 trying to rescue her – he's completely oblivious to all the chaos erupting around him and clearly would have kept digging had he not been ''physically dragged away'' before the island exploded.]]
* BigGood: Ultimately shares the role with [=SMG4=], being one of the main protagonists of pretty much every season up until Season 9, when different characters like Meggy started taking up the role for some seasons.
* BlowYouAway: Gains these powers in "Final Fantasy Mario".
* BreathWeapon: After swallowing the Old Man's KamehameHadoken in "Mario the Olympian", he shoots it back out as a flamethrower, [[CruelAndUnusualDeath killing both the Old Man and Frankie simultaneously]].
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: In WOTFI 2022, Lawyer Kong brainwashes him [[spoiler:and all other Nintendo characters into fighting the [=SMG4=]-original characters in a series of challenges. He thankfully gets returned to normal just in time for the rap battle.]]
* ButtMonkey: Especially after 2021, Mario has been seen as the subject of misfortune whether or not it was his fault. Prior to this, he wasn't this as often as the likes of Luigi, Toad, or Fishy Boopkins, but he still found himself in many undesirable situations that didn't always end with him escaping unscathed (and even then, it requires a lot of effort to do so).
* TheCaligula: If Mario gets a position of power, expect him to be fair and just at first, then ultimately become a tyrannical dictator. In "The Spaghettipocalypse" Luigi even states that Mario ruling the world is worse than him getting hurt.
* CharacterCatchphrase: "Mama-f***er!".
* CannotTellFictionFromReality: A running gag in the ''WebAnimation/SMG4Crew'' sub-series is Mario watching a meme or game clip of a character doing something he dislikes and then taking out his rage on their real counterpart. A good example is when he saw gameplay of Rosalina drawing an ''Among Us'' crewmate and in his rage flew into space to eliminate her, all while Rosalina's eating ice cream unaware. There are, however, a [[PlayedWith few incidents]] where the memes ''are'' directly connected to reality.
* CharacterDevelopment: Starting from [[CerebusSyndrome the Waluigi Arc]], Mario has become less of a jerk to those around him, most notably Luigi and Meggy. Though his JerkAss tendencies still surface every now and then.
* CharacterizationMarchesOn: His romantic interest in Princess Peach diminished over the years, likely having become utterly fed up from having to rescue her countless times without getting much in return, in addition to her demanding and patronizing treatment of him. Mario refuses to help her make money for the Mushroom Kingdom in "Mario's Spageti Delivary" and even gets the cops to attack her in "The Visitor". By 2018, he is more or less indifferent to her.
** He still chose to "Smash" her in "Smash or Pass"… but only after putting a paper bag over her head.
* CharacterTic: He has a tendency to go cock-eyed when confused, [[TheDitz which is basically always]].
* TheChewToy: Especially in later episodes, where he gets smacked and pushed around a ''lot'' more than before, often getting into trouble even when he isn't the conflict's instigator.
* ChildishOlderSibling: Like in canon, he's Luigi's older brother, yet he's a {{Manchild}} of the highest order.
* ChubbyChaser: If "Mario Plays: Smash Or Pass" is any indication, he has a preference for people as fat as he is.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: His default state of mind.
* ComedicSociopath: Mario's worst actions are played for laughs.
* ComicalOverreacting: Has a tendency to go ''[[AxCrazy apeshit crazy]]'' at the most minor offenses.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: With his LethallyStupid actions and extreme idiocy, you'd think he couldn't handle himself in a fight… and you'd be wrong, as Mario proves that when he actually uses his wits (and his own stupidity when ''that'' fails), he can overcome pretty much anything thrown at him. "A Totally Normal [=SMG4=] Episode" and "Mario's Mask of Madness" are excellent examples of this.
* CuttingTheKnot: While playing ''Dungeons & Dragons'', Mario defeats the FinalBoss by punching [=SMG4=] (The Dungeon Keeper) in real life.
* DeathIsCheap: As expected with a classic video game character, he always respawns. It takes an out-of-universe EldritchAbomination to ''genuinely'' kill him.
* DecompositeCharacter: In some episodes, he and [[VideoGame/DrMario his doctor counterpart]] are separate characters.
* DependingOnTheWriter: Became this as more staff came onboard and Luke's/[=SMG4's=] focus shifted. While Mario is generally depicted as TheDitz, he can sometimes be a [[BunnyEarsLawyer somewhat levelheaded leader who can make good decisions]] or a [[DirtyCoward cowardly]] {{Manchild}}.
** 2022 was the most extreme case of this yet, with him flip-flopping between being a [[TooDumbToLive complete idiot who can barely function]] and the [[OnlySaneMan most relatively well-adjusted character]] ''almost every episode''.
* {{Deuteragonist}}: In the small amount of seasons where he isn’t TheHero, he often gets back seated to this role by the main protagonist, like with Meggy in Season 9, or [=SMG4=] during the Cosmology Saga.
* DirtyCoward: Will often shift the blame to his friends to get out of trouble, leaving them to suffer the consequences. Although he's not as bad with this as Bob.
* DisneyDeath: In the 10th anniversary special, Zero tortures him via MindRape, and after Zero's defeat, he seems to have died from it, but then his left arm turns back to normal and he wakes up asking for [[TrademarkFavoriteFood spaghetti]].
* DoesNotLikeSpam: Mario will not touch vegetables, even if he's teetering on the brink of death from starvation (remember, tomato is a fruit). Once when he's forced on a diet, he eats broccoli… and his body rejects it.
* DoomMagnet: Pretty much everywhere Mario goes, destruction and chaos soon follow.
* DopeSlap: He's often on the receiving end of this, courtesy of his more-sane friends like [=SMG4=] or Meggy. Even Luigi is not above this.
* DrivenToSuicide: He is not immune to this, especially in the ''WebAnimation/SMG4Crew'' series.
** While his constant deaths in ''WebAnimation/SMG4Crew'' are PlayedForLaughs, his mental breakdown during the Lawsuit Arc where he repeatedly jumps off the Smash field and drives his kart into a wall are ''not''.
* DrunkWithPower: When someone as impulsive and unrestrained as Mario gets any measure of power, no matter how small, expect tyranny and apocalyptic disasters to follow.
* TheDitz: Long story short, he's a pain to everyone in the castle because of his extreme levels of stupidity.
* TheDragon: He's the strongest and closest enforcer for his "king" Marty in "War of the Fat Italians 2023".
* DumbassHasAPoint: This version of Mario is an absolute idiot, no denying that, but he does make some good arguments every now and then.
** After he and Toad destroy all the milk Luigi was carrying in "Mario Goes To The Fridge to Get A Glass of Milk", he simply suggests for Luigi to go back to the factory and get some more. Luigi protests but Toad actually agrees it's a not a bad idea – as an employee, nobody would be suspicious of Luigi walking in there and taking up crates to deliver since that's his actual job.
** He objects when [=SMG4=] refuses to let him help their team in "Mario's Hell Kitchen", and notes that it's unfair that he's being left out. While Mario is indeed an awful cook, he is right that it's a little unfair to single him out for it when the rest of the team consists of people who are equally bad (Bob, Boopkins), if not even worse than him at cooking (Meggy).
** When a recently human-turned Meggy thinks she can mop the floors easier as an Inkling in "Mario Does the Chores", Mario correctly imagines that she would be wrong. Inklings are creatures made from ink, and the water would dissolve her if she didn't have a RespawnPoint on standby. Plus, no longer being weak to water is an interesting perk to being human.
** In "The Day [=SMG4=] Posted Cringe", [=SMG3=] blackmails various Youtubers into helping him by threatening to post cringe videos on their accounts, which [=SMG4=] decrees as [[SeriousBusiness the most vile thing ever done]]. Mario retorts by asking about Francis's [[spoiler:genocidal plans for Inkopolis]]. Sure, [=SMG4=] brushes him off and it's treated as a joke, but Mario asking him if what [=SMG3=] did was worse than what Francis did is basically implying that [[SkewedPriorities he should get his priorities straight when it comes to recognizing true evil.]]
** In "If Mario Was In… Anime," when Axol loses his title as the world's best anime artist, Mario quickly realizes, and points out, that it's because ever since his Inkweaver broke, Axol hasn't really drawn any manga or anime and just spends most of his time fawning over Melony. Axol acknowledges this, and it gives him the incentive to repair Inkweaver.
* DumbassNoMore: In "Mario Can't Play With You Anymore", Mario is forcibly reverted back to his canon personality (jolly, heroic, etc.), removing his stupidity. This isn't a good thing as it also causes him to forget [=SMG4=] and all his non-Nintendo friends. [[spoiler:He's successfully re-corrupted after being shown several memes.]]
* EpicFail: When cooking. Or most simple tasks for that matter. But when it comes to true problems…
* EveryoneHasStandards:
** Even ''Mario'' can't stand Frankie's stupidity.
** His reaction to [=SMG4=] stupidly bankrupting himself by buying 1 million rocks in "The Mario Hustle"?
--->'''Mario''': "Mario think you a dumbass motherf*cker."
** He is horrified when he finds out what happened to [[spoiler:Spudnick]].
** Several life-hacks shown in "Mario tries Life Hacks" have Mario racking his brain at how stupid they are.
** Mario makes some weird decisions in "Mario Plays: Smash or Pass", including wanting to smash himself, but he passes with prejudice on [[BestialityIsDepraved the Kongs]], the Koopalings and Bowser Jr, and is downright horrified to see [[PaedoHunt Baby Mario]] on the list.
** "Mario Googles Himself" has Mario detesting anything depicting incest between him and Luigi.
--->''(Mario sees himself and Luigi kissing)'' "...Well, if that's the case, [[DrivenToSuicide gun]]!" ''(A hand reaches on screen and gives him one)'' "Well, thank you very much-" ''*bang*''
* ExpressiveHair: His moustache either grows or shrinks to reflect whatever's on his mind.
* FailureIsTheOnlyOption: Whenever he cooks.
* {{Fartillery}}: Often. In "War of the Fat Italians 2013", one fart was enough to ''fill up the entire scene with gas''.
* {{Flanderization}}: Mario's {{Manchild}} traits were ramped up to the nth degree in the second half of 2022, making him an even bigger manchild than he ever was before. Some prime examples are "How To Train Your Mario" and "All I Want For Christmas Is Mario To FREAKIN BEHAVE". This has thnakfully been undone ([[Recap/SMG4MarioBreaksTheMcDonaldsIceCreamMachine for the most part]]) in 2023.
* FoolishSiblingResponsibleSibling: Mario is the Foolish Sibling to Luigi's Responsible Sibling.
* FeedItABomb: Mario inhales and swallows a [[Franchise/{{Splatoon}} Splat Bomb]] in "If Mario Was In... Splatoon", causing [[YourHeadASplode his head to self-destruct]].
* FishEyes: Sometimes it gets to the point where he spends entire episodes like this.
* FreakyFridayFlip:
** With [=SMG4=] in "The Switcherooveralls" and "The Swap".
** With Steve in "Mineswap", causing him to become a ''VideoGame/{{Minecraft}}'' skin and Steve to become a ''VideoGame/SuperMario64'' PaletteSwap.
* TheFriendNobodyLikes: Throughout most of the series, Mario was a senseless nuisance who caused everyone around him grief, even getting kicked out in "Mario Joins the Circus" because everyone was so fed up with him. A combination of Mario mellowing out and hanging around a newer cast of characters starting in 2016 have since thoroughly lessened this status for him, but he can still be a handful at times. "If Mario Was The Last Man On Earth" in particular has them [[spoiler:leave Mario out of the making of a record-breaking pizza after he ruined their previous attempt - leading him to accidentally wreck it again after [[GoMadFromTheIsolation going insane]].]]
* FunnyBackgroundEvent: Often when the focus is on another character, you can count on Mario to be doing something weird in the background.
* GagNose: Extending his nose became one of his powers by 2021.
* GeniusDitz: Started to lean into this beginning in 2017, especially during story arcs.
* GiveMeBackMyWallet: With Yoshi in "Wallets and Dinosaurs".
* GoMadFromTheIsolation: Mario cannot handle being alone, and it's driven him coo-coo-crazy at least twice.
** In the 2019 Christmas Special, he misses the bus to Florida because he's asleep in [=SMG4's=] room and locked the door so no one can wake him. Once he realizes his friends left without him, he spends the rest of the day building lookalikes of the main cast from items in the castle… in the process also creating future major character Melony.
** In "If Mario Was the Last Man On Earth", his friends dump him after he ruins their first attempt at breaking a world record. Within not very long, he's completely lost it; he has a conversation with three mannequins he dresses as [=SMG4=], Luigi, and Meggy (even ''he'' realizes this is silly); and eventually hallucinates Hobo-Mario who he mistakes for god.
* GodzillaThreshold:
** In "The Grand Mario Hotel", the [[TheMultiverse other Marios]] end up seeing him as so LethallyStupid that they decide to team up to kill him. To put things in perspective – one of them is Bootleg Mario from "THE BOOTLEG DIMENSION", someone who once caused a RealityBleed SuicidalCosmicTemperTantrum that Mario had to stop.
** In "Smart Mario", Mario's latest bout of idiocy is such that everyone in the castle, even Luigi and Meggy, decide to force him to become smart through one of E. Gadd's inventions. This despite how they (save E. Gadd) see it as a last resort. [[StatusQuoIsGod It doesn't last.]]
* GrandfatherClause: The series started out as Machinimas of ''VideoGame/SuperMario64'' starring Mario and other characters from the ''[[Franchise/SuperMarioBros Super Mario]]'' series, but then as the series progressed, more non-''Mario'' and {{Original Character}}s were added to the cast, ''VideoGame/GarrysMod'' is used more prominently than ''[=SM64=]'', and the majority of ''Mario'' characters have either been DemotedToExtra, PutOnABus, [[ChuckCunninghamSyndrome disappeared]] or even been KilledOffForReal. By TheNewTwenties, this took another step by redesigning multiple OCs (one of them being the titular [=SMG4=]) so that they no longer resemble ''Mario'' characters, and Peach's Castle, the show's main setting, [[ItMakesSenseInContext was swallowed by a black hole]] and disappeared from the show altogether, all to avoid being ScrewedByTheLawyers. But despite all these changes, Mario has remained as the only consistently relevant ''Mario''/Nintendo element in the series since he is TheProtagonist, and a possible removal or redesign could cause huge backlash among fans, even though his mere existence clashes with the entire series and he's been [[ExiledFromContinuity omitted or hidden]] from merchandise and related ''[=SMG4=]'' media such as ''WebAnimation/SunsetParadise''.
* {{Greed}}: Over spaghetti and (sometimes) coins.
* GuileHero: [[NotMakingThisUpDisclaimer Yes, really.]] He often shows this when battling, using his environment or [[IgnoranceIsBliss blissful stupidity]] to his advantage.
* TheHeavy: To Marty in "War of the Fat Italians 2023". While Marty has a motive for wanting to steal [=SMG3's=] notebook, he's still a piece of cardboard, and Mario's the one doing all the heavy lifting.
* TheHero: He and [=SMG4=] share the role, with Mario being one of, if not the main protagonist of every season except 9, 11 and 12.
* HiddenDepths: Mario can do ''some'' things well…
** "Freddy's Spaghettiria Security Breach" shows that Mario's a natural at making pizza despite normally being a LethalChef. He also shows this in "Mario Destroys the Environment" despite not being able to make an edible pizza the week before; his pizza is so good a group of sentient trees ''willingly'' sacrifices itself to create a pizza stand for him.
** He's also good at building things when he feels like it. For example, assembling beds for Melony twice when Axol couldn't. He can also build {{humongous mecha}}s to terrorize his friends in challenges.
* HypocriticalHumor: In "If Mario was [[VideoGame/AmongUs AMONG US]]" he said that red is a stupid color despite the fact that he wears red.
* ICallItVera:
** In "The Plumber Problem", he put a sombrero on a [[VideoGame/MarioKart banana peel]] and named it "Eduardo".
** He calls his spaghetti "Sarah".
** He names a rock "Jason" in "Mario Gets Stuck On An Island".
* IdiotHero: He's one of the two overall [[BigGood Big Goods]] of the series, but is clearly very immature, dimwitted, and often reckless. [[spoiler: [[WhamEpisode SMG4's Origins]] reveals that he used to be like his video game counterpart before [=SMG4=]'s Guardian Pod landed in the kingdom and turned him into the spaghetti-obsessed dumbass he is today.]]
* TheImmune: Mario frequently finds himself immune to the episode's big problem, leaving him as the only one able to save the day.
** Mario takes up the role of Frodo in ''Lord of the Memes'' as he's immune to the corrupting effects of the ultimate meme, being too dumb to figure out why it's so funny.
** The Mario Mask has no effect on him in "Mario's Mask of Madness" because, well, he's already Mario.
** He's immune to the titular ''Clown Fever'' because he ''always'' makes a fool of himself.
* InnocentBlueEyes: Heavily inverted. He has blue eyes like in canon but is a {{Jerkass}} and InsufferableImbecile.
* {{Jerkass}}: Before he TookALevelInKindness, Mario was a profoundly careless, destructive, self-centered glutton who lacked a moral compass; and despite clearly caring for his friends, he let his love of food constantly overshadow his relationships. He still shows signs of being a DirtyCoward from time to time.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Nowadays, while he may occasionally be a [[ItsAllAboutMe selfish]], [[{{Greed}} greedy]] {{Jerkass}}, he's shown multiple times to care for his friends in his own way.
* KickTheDog: To Luigi throughout ''all'' of "Mario for Hire", [[LaserGuidedKarma but it bites him in the end]].
* LackOfEmpathy: There are times where Mario only cares about what he wants, though it is mostly due to his idiocy. There are also times where he suggests ViolenceIsTheOnlyOption, even when people suggest a different way.
* LaserGuidedKarma: He will rarely if ever escape karma's grasp.
* LawfulStupidChaoticStupid: Make no mistake. He may look like an idiot and talk like an idiot but don't let that fool you… he really is an idiot. However, his idiocy can be for different causes DependingOnTheWriter
* LethalChef: It has been shown that Mario cannot cook, and any attempt at cooking solo will [[FailureIsTheOnlyOption always fail]]. Unless, we are also shown, it's pizza…
* LethallyStupid: When he isn't being a {{Jerkass}}, he is causing destruction through his own [[TheDitz stupidity]].
* LikeBrotherAndSister: To Meggy, said almost word-for-word by Meggy during one of her livestreams.
* MajorInjuryUnderreaction: Mario got more and more used to [[TheChewToy constantly being abused]] as the series went on, and now tends to react to [[NighInvulnerable normally-lethal injures]] with mere annoyance. "Mario Does Literally Anything For Views" demonstrates this pretty well with the "Mystery Buttons" segment, where he's more hurt by insults than he is by ColdBloodedTorture.
* ManChild: Despite being an adult, Mario is perfectly willing to play in toy stores, lay traps for Santa Claus, and do all sorts of insane antics without a second thought.
* MasterOfDisguise: Or rather the master of ''fail'' disguise, as shown in "Master of Fail Disguises". [[LatexPerfection The actual physical disguises he uses are accurate]], but he's [[PerfectDisguiseTerribleActing bad at imitating other characters' mannerisms.]]
* MeatOVision: In "Spaghettipocalypse", a delirious Mario starts seeing everyone as spaghetti. He proceeds to try to eat (and make love with, as he would with the dish) everybody.
* MindRape: Poor Mario had this happen to him by Zero in the 10th anniversary special, Zero made Mario see memories of Zero's birth and how he was defeated before.
** On a less serious note, watching several cringe Nintendo memes in a row does this to him.
* MoodKiller: Tends to be this in genuinely emotional situations.
* MoralityChain:[[invoked]] He has one in Meggy Spletzer. After meeting her in 2017, he began showing more compassion to the cast in general and Luigi in particular. It's thanks to her that his actions are rarely as atrocious as they had been. She's basically the only person he listens to, so sometimes it's her job to tell him ''why'' what he does upsets people (e.g. the Christmas 2022 Special when he indirectly hurt Melony's pet axolotl). [[spoiler:This shines especially in the Anime Arc, where he offers Meggy the spaghetti she had bribed him with to participate in the Splatfest training to comfort her and assure her he has her back.]]
* MoralityPet: Meggy and Tari. Ever since Mario met them, he became a little bit nicer and started to finally care about something other than himself and spaghetti.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: "All I Want For Christmas Is Mario To FREAKIN BEHAVE" shows a rare example of him genuinely feeling guilty about how his carelessness and stupidity hurt people; when Meggy points out how much Axol Junior (who got injured as a result of Mario trying to sneak some food) means to Melony, he becomes genuinely apologetic, and spends the rest of the video trying to make up for his actions.
* NakedPeopleAreFunny: Has gone naked frequently. Exaggerated in some videos, such as "Hunt for the Hero's Clothes" and "Mario Swag".
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: He's frequently the reason things go wrong in most videos. For example, he shows Cap'n Lardbutt his "pirate booty" in "The Pirate Plumbers", [[spoiler:only to unexpectedly unleash the squid monster]].
* NiceMeanAndInBetween: Is the "Mean" part of a trio with Luigi and [=SMG4=], being an immature, selfish, and destructive IdiotHero who is a JerkWithAHeartOfGold at best.
* NighInvulnerability: Mario has survived nearly everything that has been thrown at him whilst being barely fazed, with only an EldritchAbomination being able to even get close to killing him. [[spoiler:It's likely a side effect of being the universe's BarrierMaiden.]]
* NobodyPoops: Very averted in "100 Ways for Mario to Die (The Right Way)", which lists his 20th death (#81) as "crapping on the rug". Needless to say, Princess Peach [[DeathGlare was]] not [[UnstoppableRage amused]].
* NoMeansYes: If this trope occurs involving him, it can usually lead from a small question to the main plot elements, such as from telling [=SMG4=] if he wants to show his swag to the public to actually showing his swag in "Mario Swag", from asking Toad if he got his camera ready right to him and [=SMG4=] doing "the awesome war" in "War of the Fat Italians 2013", and from telling Luigi if he can have a spaghetti machine to go to a casino with Luigi in "Casino, Cards and Chaos".
* ObfuscatingStupidity: Meggy said in a Q&A session that she believes Mario is a lot smarter than he pretends to be. We see this during {{story arc}}s when [[LetsGetDangerous things get serious]], and even during some regular episodes where, for example, he proves to be surprisingly good at building stuff ("The Bed" and "Mario Alone").
* OffWithHisHead: Happens occasionally in the main series and ''a lot'' in ''WebAnimation/SMG4Crew''.
* OlderThanHeLooks: Zig-zagged. Early episode "the (TOTALLY ACCURATE) documentary of mario" claimed Mario was born in 1928, but he looks his canon age of 24-26. Modern episodes take no real position on his age.
* OnlySaneMan: Yes, he can be this, thanks to some occasional strokes of intelligence. It's rare, but if he's not causing or indulging in chaos, he'll usually be critical of it.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness:
** When ''Mario'' is angered by someone else's stupidity, you know they're really dumb.
** When Mario is legitimately scared, things get [[CerebusSyndrome serious]]... [[PlayedWith sometimes]], because he's just as likely to be scared of serial killers, eldritch abominations, and [[spoiler:Zero]] as he is to be scared of a lack of spaghetti.
** Mario's TranquilFury is a surefire sign that someone's fucked up.
** Normally violently protective of his spaghetti, [[spoiler:in "Meggy's Bootcamp, Mario ''willingly'' gives it to Meggy because he's so concerned about her well-being after she has a breakdown about how horribly she treated him and the others during Splatfest training.]]
** Even the world's dumbest man [[DrivenToSuicide can't handle]] learning that his world is a simulation.
** During the ''Revelations'' movie, when Niles possessing Melony tries to re-merge with [=SMG0=], Mario kicks him and has this to say:
--->'''Mario''': "Mario's not the smartest guy in the room. But Mario knows enough to say that you need to shuttup and let Melony go."
** PlayedForLaughs in "Mario Goes To The Zoo", where he picks up the SanityBall and becomes the OnlySaneMan, emphasizing how bonkers everybody else went.
** Mario usually doesn't care how much his antics hurt others, but when he accidentally gets Axol Junior hurt in "All I Want For Christmas Is Mario To FREAKIN BEHAVE" and upsets Melony in the process (especially given [[spoiler:what happened to AJ's namesake]]), even he realizes he's gone too far, though Meggy has to [[WhatTheHellHero spell it out to him first]].
* ParentalAbandonment: His parents threw him on the side of the road when he was born, on account of him being such a hideous baby, his father tried to kill him "before he laid eggs". For all we know, [[FreudianExcuse it's pretty much why Mario is the way he is]]. This may be {{retcon}}ned though as "[=MAR10=] Day" shows he's the product of Miyamoto-san eating some bad spaghetti and puking him out.
* PalsWithJesus: He's pals with Slenderman, Siren Head, and Huggy Wuggy among others. Averted with Jesus himself, who appears from time to time in this series but doesn't like Mario much.
* PetTheDog:
** He warned Luigi of the Chain Chomp that was chasing him and [=SMG4=] in "Who Let the Chomps Out?", compared to earlier videos where he would likely just throw Luigi in to distract the Chomp.
** In "Mario and the retarded spaghetti factory", after escaping from his prison cell, Mario proceeds to rescue a woman in the cell next to him, even though he had no reason to... ([[KickTheDog at least until he shot the woman for reminding him of Peach]]).
** Mario says it best in "Meet the Mario". As long as his needs are met, Mario would try to act nicer. The thing is [[WellIntentionedExtremist he's]] very dumb even then. And most often, his needs are far from being met.
** In "Meggy's Bootcamp", [[spoiler:he genuinely comforts Meggy as she's [[HeroicBSOD having an emotional breakdown]] over what a {{Jerkass}} she had been, [[AwLookTheyReallyDoLoveEachOther even giving her the spaghetti she had bribed him with earlier]]]].
** In "If Mario Was In… Nickelodeon", During the chaos he causes with Cosmo's wand, he apparently wished for Melony to have a pet axolotl. This may be he wanted to make Melony feel better after [[spoiler:Axol's death]] (the episode aired shortly after the end of the Genesis Arc). Unfortunately, this was semi-{{retcon}}ned in "All I Want For Christmas Is Mario To FREAKIN BEHAVE".
** Perhaps the biggest example so far was from the 2021 Christmas Special. As Santa's replacement, even though he was forced to, he does his best to make everyone happy, and most of his gifts are actually well received. All of his efforts were repaid in the end when everyone comes to celebrate Christmas with him.
* PlotArmor: Justified. [[spoiler:He's the Avatar of Nintendo World ([=SMG4=] is its guardian), so if he dies, ''the rest of the universe dies with him''. That gives the universe itself a motivation to sweep [[TheManyDeathsOfYou The Many Deaths Of Mario]] under the rug, though an EldritchAbomination like Zero could kill him off for real.]] It's for this reason that he's classified as a B-tier.
* PsychopathicManchild: Is just as crazy as he is immature.
* RageBreakingPoint: Has a massive one in "[=SMG4=] Christmas 2018", where he goes ''apeshit'' on Bob. Though Bob deserved it after all he did, [[OOCIsSeriousBusiness it's out of character for Mario]].
* RealityWarper: He's able to rip open portals to/from the void with his bare hands, dimension-hop through backwards-long-jumping, break physics in general, handle black holes, summon Satan (sometimes by accident), phase through walls and doors, and create a new recurring character (Melony). No one else ever notices.
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: He gets these often. Usually it is well deserved but they rarely, if ever, affect him.
-->'''[=SMG4=]''': "MARIO, YOU'RE RETARD WITH A MENTAL DISORDER, OK?!"
-->'''Peach''': "First, you almost destroy the world, and then you don't take out the trash properly! Why do you have to be so useless and difficult?!"
* RedOniBlueOni: The red to [=SMG4=] and Meggy's blue.
* RedIsHeroic: He wears red overalls and his iconic red cap just like his main counterpart, but thanks to the AdaptationalJerkass and AdaptationalDumbass treatment he's been given here, he's an AntiHero and a JerkWithAHeartOfGold at best, or a VillainProtagonist at his worst.
* RedIsViolent: Again, he wears red overalls and a red cap, and can sometimes be quite destructive and reckless at times if unprovoked.
* TheRival: Mario is one to basically ''every character'' in the series at some point, except ''maybe'' Luigi. How serious and/or friendly the rivalry is depends on the other character and the situation. In particular, he's [=SMG4's=] main rival in the first seven ''War of the Fat Italians'' episodes.
* SanityBall: Holds one whenever he deals with Frankie, who is EVEN DUMBER than he is.
* SkewedPriorities: The Mushroom Kingdom is going to be taken over by Shy Guys? He doesn't care. The Shy Guys are also going to destroy all the spaghetti in the Kingdom? ''Holy shit! This is serious''. He's since begun doing it for more selfless reasons, such as his friends, although it still takes prodding to get him to fully cooperate.
* SmartBall: When the situation calls for it, he will drop all forms of stupidity and get to work to solve it quickly, such as...
** Whenever he deals with the [[VideoGame/FiveNightsAtFreddys animatronics]], such as tricking the withered animatronics into attacking their toy counterparts and jumpscaring Purple Guy and the Puppet.
** Tricking [[VideoGame/{{Deltarune}} Jevil]] into flooding the arena with incredibly lethal weapons.
** Using the couple-hour window before Wario & Waluigi robbed Peach's castle (where Mario was left alone on Christmas) to set up traps.
** When Minions infested the world thanks to the release of their latest movie, he quickly tries to find ways to destroy them all and doesn't stop until he completes his task.
* SociopathicHero: At his absolute ''worst'', he can be completely intolerant to the feelings of others or even the ''cause'' of the horrid situations the main cast get involved in. This happens either because of his own stupidity or outright malicious intent. [[TookALevelInKindness He's mostly dropped this since 2016]].
* SpannerInTheWorks: Mario is such a chaotic and erratic individual that he's completely derailed several villainous schemes by just being him. In the [=PUZZLEVISION=] saga Mario manages to [[spoiler:slip out of Mr. Puzzles' RealityWarper levels of control and wonder the backrooms]] all because he's too hard to control and predict. In the movie finale, Mario is so chaotic [[spoiler:he's able to cause chaos while under complete mind control through clumsiness]].
* SpontaneousMustache: {{Inverted}}. Mario obviously has a moustache 99% of the time (often stretched to a comically large size), but sometimes it suddenly disappears when he's particularly shocked or disturbed.
* SuddenlyVoiced: Downplayed. He’d used voice clips from his real-life voice actor Charles Martinet for years, but starting in 2021 he began using the Uberduck.ai Mario voice for some of his lines.
** Played straight during the "War Of The Fat Italians" raps, where he gets full voiced lines.
* SyntheticVoiceActor: As of 2021, Mario started using the Uberduck.ai Mario voice for some of his lines in addition to his standard Charles Martinet voice clips.
* TheyKilledKennyAgain: He dies a lot, usually thanks to his own stupidity, but he always comes back afterwards. [[spoiler:His nature as his universe's Avatar means that permanent death will destroy the universe, though.]]
* ThirdPersonPerson: Just like in canon, he slips into this.
* TooDumbToLive: Mario dies on a frequent basis due to his stupidity. For example, he eats things that would make a nuclear waste disposal retch, he once proceeds to stand on a Chain Chomp's pedestal just to mock [=SMG4=], his reaction to a wall of death is to ''stick his face in it'', and when he got his hands on a Death Note, he angrily killed himself '''by accident.''' Without his friends to guide him around, he would die even more often. But, as noted above, [[TheManyDeathsOfYou his many deaths]] don't stick for several reasons.
--> '''[=SMG4=]''': "[[LampshadeHanging DON'T GO FULL RETARD ON ME NOW]]!"
* TookALevelInJerkass: In "Mario for Hire", where his LackOfEmpathy is exaggerated and he is completely remorseless when he sics the [[VideoGame/TeamFortress2 Heavy]] on Luigi. [[LaserGuidedKarma Luigi gets back at him]] at the end though.
* TookALevelInKindness: Evident since 2018. While his stupidity can still land him (and others) into trouble, he still acts way more amicable with the people he cares about and is more willing to help those in need. It shines most especially in ''Meggy's Destiny'', where he participates in the last Splatfest with Meggy alongside Luigi and Tari and is defensive of her against the jerkish opposing team Killer Ink.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Spaghetti, to an absolutely ''ludicrous'' degree.
* TranquilFury: It's rare, but even he's not below slipping into this. When he does, ''get outta there!''
* TrueCompanions: With Meggy. He may not show it often, but he does respect and care for her in his own way. This extends to his brother and his other friends, too. Particularly Tari, who (as the designated female ButtMonkey of the series) is by far the most likely to join him in his crazier antics.
* UnstoppableRage: Chica and the other animatronics had to learn this the hard way. If Chica hadn't found the spaghetti on the floor and proclaimed it tasted like shit...
* UnsympatheticComedyProtagonist: Was this before, and still has his moments even today, but has been improving since 2017.
* VillainProtagonist: Of ''a lot'' of episodes, some examples being "Mario for Hire" and "Mario Gets Into [=NFTs=]". He's more of a NominalHero whenever he isn't.
* VomitIndiscretionShot: Frequently. Also parodied/subverted with him turning away from the scene. This occurred in "The Visitor" while Bowser Robot is singing, "Mushroom Wars" when the gang reacts to Dr. Robotnik's "just let your head flop back" lesson, and in "Clone o' Mario" by a recently-created Mario clone.
* VitriolicBestBuds: Mario is actually great friends with Bowser whenever they aren't fighting over Peach or something else. He also genuinely cares about the rest of the gang despite their antics. This was best shown in the "Lawsuit Arc", where he can't bear living in a world where his friends from Nintendo have been reset to their canon personalities and his non-Nintendo friends have been exiled and stops at nothing to try and save them.
* WeirdnessMagnet: For every adventure started by Mario's stupidity, there's another that he'll just stumble into. A frustrated Saiko lampshades Mario's status as one in "War on Beeg [=SMG4=]":
--> '''Saiko:''' "WHY DOES CRAP LIKE THIS ALWAYS HAPPEN WHEN I'M WITH YOU?!"\
'''Mario:''' "[[WesternAnimation/TheSimpsons I don't know.]]"
* WeWantOurIdiotBack: "Smart Mario" has the others turning [[InsufferableImbecile Mario]] smart after putting up with his stupidity for so long. Things go well at first, but Mario proves that even though he's smarter now, he's still just as immature as when he was an idiot. In fact, he plans to get revenge on everyone for treating him as such. This makes the others realize even though Mario was stupid, he wasn't as threatening, prompting them to change him back.
* WhatTheHellHero: No matter how much [=SMG4=] gives these to him often, Mario will never learn from his mistakes. Lay it on him a little thicker however, just like Meggy did in "All I Want for Christmas is for Mario to FREAKIN' BEHAVE", and he might finally see the error of ways and try to right his wrongs, if reluctantly.
-->'''Meggy:''' "Dude…! Axol Junior means the world to her! She's been caring for him ever since… well… you know. And you really injured him, Mario!"\
'''Mario:''' "WAHHHHH!! MARIO'S SORRYYYYYY!! Mario will go say sorry right now!"
* WouldHurtAChild: Three words: "KICK THE BABY!" His habit of kicking [=JubJub=] has been a RunningGag for a time.
* YourHeadASplode:
** This is death #36 in "101 ways for mario to die (the right way!)". Mario, upon seeing Toad no longer has his Justin Bieber magazine, becomes so happy he becomes light-headed.
** Gets this after eating a live Splat Bomb in "If Mario Was In... Splatoon", thinking it was a Dorito.
** His head blows up often when watching Nintendo memes or other internet videos too stupid even for him.

The ruler of the Mushroom Kingdom and the castle Mario and almost everyone else resides in. In earlier bloopers, Mario had (on occasion) tried to get her affection, but almost always failed.
----
* AntiVillain: Unlike Waluigi and Bob beforehand, she's not openly malicious or villainous. Her reason for banning anime is more of a desire to protect her kingdom (and her castle) if anything. [[spoiler:She also allows those who are fighting for the unbanning of anime to make their case and is ultimately convinced by them to let it be unbanned]].
* ArtShift:
** {{Lampshaded}} in "Castle Royale", when she becomes so happy she turns into an animated GIF.
* ArcVillainess: Became one of these with "Mario's Illegal Operation", as she made the law banning anime forever in the first place, and keeps her position for [[spoiler:half of]] the Anime Arc.
* BelligerentSexualTension: Her and Mario's relationship is, for the most part, the two driving each other completely insane. Mario sees a punching bag with her face on it and alternates between punching it and [[BreadMilkEggsSquick humping it]]. Make of that what you will. However, apparently they had sex a few times in the older eras, if Mario walking out of her bedroom naked (granted this isn't exactly unique or unusual for Mario on the daily-o) in one episode is an indication, meaning at least prior to the relationship dissolving, they did find a healthy catharsis.
* BerserkButton:
** Oh boy, if you throw a party in her castle while she's on vacation and she finds out...
** If you wreck her castle, [[spoiler:a fate that might lead you to be banned from her birthday party.]] Mario had to find that out the hard way. [[spoiler:The mere fact that an anime battle destroyed the castle in "Mario and the Anime Challenge" leads her to ban it forever.]]
** She gets angry over a load of pipes, and tells you to fix every pipe you notice, as revealed in "Problematic Pipe Problems".
** If you call her a bitch as shown in "The Toad, the Fat and the Ugly", get ready to regret it.
** If you also sell her clothes as shown in "Mario For Hire" she'll be very angry.
** Don't try to ruin her days out, she will '''maim you'''.
** Prevent her from watching Super Mario Twilight? ''Prepare to die.''
** Don't tell her to give you her butt or make you a sandwich. She will slap you.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: When her castle is destroyed.
* BigBadEnsemble: With [[spoiler:Francis]] in the Anime Arc.
* BigCreepyCrawlies: [[spoiler:Heavy exposure to the Demonic Goop transforms her into a horrific, multi-legged monster whose sole instinct is to kill.]]
* BigDamnHeroes: She, of all people, saves everyone from the T-Pose Virus.
* BossSubtitles: [[spoiler:"Malice Transformed Beast", after becoming mutated by the demonic goop.]]
* ButtMonkey: She frequently gets abused by Mario, kidnapped by Bowser, etc.
* CharacterTic: As of 2020, it's [[HellIsThatNoise screaming]] whenever she's angry, which is [[{{Flanderization}} now]] nearly [[HairTriggerTemper all the time]].
* CloudcuckoolandersMinder: To Mario in most of her earlier appearances when [=SMG4=] isn't around.
* ConflictKiller: In "Food Wars", where she returns from her vacation early and promptly [[OneWingedAngel goes berserk]] at the castle being such a mess, forcing Team Pizza and Team Candy to team up to stop her.
* DamselInDistress: As she is in the canon ''Mario'' series, although it happens slightly less often in later videos.
* DemonicPossession: "Let's Go Visit Peach!" reveals that exposure to the [[spoiler:Demonic Goop for four months has turned her into... [[https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/supermarioglitchy4/images/3/36/BeastPeach.png/revision/latest?cb=20230722161915 this]]. Yes, it is certainly not pretty.]]
* DiscOneFinalBoss: [[spoiler:She may have been successfully persuaded into unbanning anime, but Meggy still has unfinished business at Splatfest. And [[BadassInDistress a kidnapping]], too]].
* TheDreaded: To Mario, due to simply getting in his way, forcing him to work, and denying him spaghetti otherwise. [[spoiler: He convinces Donkey Kong to abduct her in retaliation in "[=SMG4=]: Mario VS Donkey Kong"]].
* DreadfulMusician: [[spoiler:Her singing voice is akin to a Toad screeching in the ''[[WesternAnimation/{{Aladdin}} A Whole New World]]'' parody Axol walks her through]].
* FantasticRacism:
** Despises Steve for being an illegal Mexican immigrant and wants him out of the Mushroom Kingdom as shown in "Meet the Steve".
** [[spoiler:Her ban of anime in "Mario's Illegal Operation" extends to anime characters, including Saiko. Fortunately, [[HeelFaceTurn she realizes the error of her ways]] and rescinds the ban]].
* FeralVillain: Gets turned into this [[spoiler:after being corrupted by the demonic goop in "Let's Go Visit Peach", only being able to communicate through monstrous screeches.]]
* {{Flanderization}}: After the Anime Arc, she becomes sort of a naggy [=housewife/mother=] figure similar to [[WesternAnimation/FamilyGuy Lois Griffin]] or [[WesternAnimation/TheFairlyOddParents Wanda]].
* GodSaveUsFromTheQueen: When she gets ''really angry''.
* HairTriggerTemper: As seen under BerserkButton, she is rather easily angered.
* TheHeavy: The A.S.S. for Peach during Part 1 of the arc, since Peach herself is a NonActionBigBad and an OrcusOnHerThrone.
* HeelFaceTurn: [[spoiler:After a confrontation from Axol and Boopkins, she embraces the good that anime can bring and calls off the ban]].
* MoralGuardians: An extreme example in that Peach deports anyone who looks like an anime character when she becomes one of these in the Anime Arc.
* NonActionBigBad: As an ArcVillainess, banning anime is literally all she does. She otherwise remains in her castle, while the A.S.S. do most of the heavy lifting for her.
* NotQuiteDead: At the end of "IT'S GOTTA BE PERFECT", [[spoiler:she's trapped in her castle as it's being swallowed by a giant monster, with no means of escape]]. Come "The Stupid Mario Movie", [[spoiler:not only does she survive this, she's building a shuttle to escape. By the time of '"Let's Go Visit Peach!" however, she seems to have succumbed to the madness of the demonic monster]].
* OddCouple: With ''Dr. Eggman'' of all people in "Egg and Peach". She winds up almost marrying him too, but has last-second doubts that prevent her from going through with it.
* OlderThanSheLooks: "Meet the Bowser" indicates that she is actually older than 30.
* OneWingedAngel: Takes on a particularly horrific one when Mario fails at his chores. It can best be described as a screaming Goomba with Peach's body parts.
* OnlySaneWoman: In "Stupid Mario [=3D=] World" and some of her other earlier appearances. [[spoiler:This might even be an {{exaggerat|edTrope}}ion; it's implied in [="SMG4's=] Origins" that she was the only one unaffected by [=SMG4's=] appearance, although she has clearly lost a bit of her sanity from dealing with everyone's antics. This no longer seems like the case if "Let's Go Visit Peach!" is any indication]].
* OrcusOnHerThrone: [[spoiler:After banning anime, the A.S.S. do most of the heavy lifting. Peach herself is only seen again at her throne room, even willing to listen to Mario and Co. make their case on why she should lift the ban.]]
* {{Otaku}}: Courtesy of Boopkins. She went on a shopping trip to buy manga in "Mario Does the Chores".
* OutOfFocus: Peach was given less screentime and character focus after 2017 when Meggy became the most prominent female character.
** [[TheBusCameBack Inverted in the Anime Arc]] where she plays a major role in the first half, then again in "Stupid Mario 3D World" where she even lampshades her lack of appearances.
* PutOnABusToHell: [[spoiler:An almost literal example at the end of "It's Gotta Be Perfect". She's still asleep when her castle is sunken and devoured by a demonic entity with her still inside. While she originally tries to escape her sinking castle, the gang later learn that the Demonic Goop mutated her into a monster that has lost all sentient thought and are forced to leave her behind in the castle ruins.]]
* SatelliteCharacter: She became this to Mario after her screentime diminished, mostly existing via her interactions with him. She hardly has even talked to any of the new character additions after Axol.
* SanitySlippage: [[spoiler:Unlike everybody else in the series bar the SMGs, she was the only one not to be affected by [=SMG4=]'s arrival. However, after years of dealing with Mario, this fact has been diminished as she is now stuck in a state of near-permanent rage and exasperation with everybody's antics. She appears to have finally lost all sense of sanity come "Let's Go Visit Peach!".]]
* TheSmurfettePrinciple: Peach was the main recurring female character until Meggy took her place in late 2017.
* SoreLoser: Doesn't take losing very well.
* UngratefulBitch: Is sometimes portrayed as this, one notable instance being where she criticized Mario for being too slow to save her in "If Mario Was In... Anime", and another in the ''Revelations'' movie where she gets angry at Mario for throwing her Toads into a truck, completely unaware that Mario was helping save them from the very obvious apocalypse that they're in.
* VetinariJobSecurity: She takes a vacation twice and both times she returns to find that her kingdom is in ruins. The first was during the Waluigi Arc when she discovered that everyone except Mario had become [[ZombieApocalypse T-pose zombies]], forcing her to use 1-Up Mushrooms to save them. The second is when she handed over duties to Toadsworth (giving him her crown to boot), [[ButtMonkey who shortly after gets sucked into a black hole]] by Mario's new [[TheBusCameBack pet rock wizard]]. [[DoubleSubverted At first, Mario ran the kingdom well albeit grudgingly despite being a ditz but then he let the power go to his head, causing the kingdom to become one ruled under his tyranny]].
* VillainHasAPoint: Her reason for banning anime is because of the constant destruction the anime battles caused. Though this is undermined by her banning actual people from her kingdom.
* WellIntentionedExtremist: In the Anime Arc, where she bans anime because Mario and friends caused a bunch of destruction from their anime battles and to keep it from happening again.

A humanoid fungus that resides in the castle alongside the Mario Bros, specifically the one that stands in the main hall of the castle. He dislikes Mario and his own life.
----
* AdaptationalJerkass: Is absolutely nothing like his canon counterpart, being the nastiest, grumpiest, and most mean-spirited of all the main characters. He suffers for it, however.
* ArtEvolution: In some episodes, he gets a model similar to fellow Toads, Toadette and Frankie, which is far cleaner than his ''Mario 64'' model. Needless to say, it hasn't stopped his old model from still being used through the newer episodes, with some episodes ("Mario's Train Trip") using both models.
* ArtShift: Just like some of the other main characters sometimes appears as his [=SM64=] model and other times as his Gmod model.
* BodyHorror: During the events of "It's Gotta Be Perfect", he ends up mutating with his legs getting longer as a result and causing him to become hostile.
* ButtMonkey: Probably the least fortunate character in [=SMG4=].
* {{Crossdresser}}: Was forced to wear makeup and goes by "Toadee" by [=SMG4=] in an attempt to show he had a girlfriend in a 2015 [=QnA=].
* TheChewToy: One of the most frequent victims of the Glitchy Gang's shenanigans. It's especially pronounced following his being DemotedToExtra, only showing up to have some type of misfortune befall him.
* TheCynic: When not high on candy or coffee.
* DemotedToExtra: After his complete absence from "The Anime Arc", Toad has been reduced to a cameo character.
* DependingOnTheWriter:
** Either he's a bitter sadistic cynic, or an insane hyperactive nuisance. "Meet the Toad" reveals this is from his candy addiction. His high turns him into a spaz while he returns to his cynical personality otherwise.
** Related to his reaction to Justin Bieber; he can either like him or dislike him. On one occasion he ''reads a Justin Bieber magazine'' and later loses it.
* TheDogBitesBack: He's the series' go-to ButtMonkey, but it's been shown multiple times that he can become a legitimate threat when he's decided he's had enough. "President Toad Washington" is one such example.
* FreudianExcuse: The entirety of "Meet the Toad" is one for him. He's revealed to be one of the few Toads of the kingdom to have a mind of his own, which also means he has to take in all the insanity and abuse that the world he lives in has to offer. He has also tried to flee the Mushroom Kingdom hundreds of times, only for all attempted escapes to be foiled by Mario. This results in a depressed, nihilistic individual whose only outlet of happiness is getting high off [[GRatedDrug candy]].
* TheFriendNobodyLikes: He's treated as one in-universe and is the biggest example of this in the whole series. Justified as he's obnoxious, inconsiderate, lazy, incredibly selfish and just an all-around douche - or he's a disruptive, hyperactive annoyance when he's on a sugar high.
* {{Greed}}: One of his more noticeable traits. Money seems to be one of the only things he actually cares about besides himself; it also makes him act like even more of an asshole than he already is.
** He first shows this in "Toad Gold" when he finds a huge cache of gold under the castle grounds and becomes extremely wealthy; he immediately begins abusing his new-found fortune and power to do whatever he wanted, including buying Peach's castle and banning the other characters from it.
** Even more so in "Stupid Mario Party", where he uses Mario and the others to get money, putting them through increasingly painful minigames with the promise of giving whoever earns him the most cash a Gold Star. He scolds them whenever they lose even the smallest amount of money and extends this plot over three weeks when he extends the "party" by 5000 minigames when they lose a game after landing on a Bowser Space. When Luigi actually wins, the Gold Star Toad promised turns out to be fake. Mario is ''not'' [[SoreLoser amused]].
** In ''WebAnimation/MeggysDestinyAnSMG4Movie'', [[spoiler:after Meggy wins the final Splatfest, Toad seems a little ''infatuated'' in the trophy.]]
* HairTriggerTemper: Quite the irritable one, especially whenever he comes into contact with Mario or Frankie.
* IronButtMonkey: He's survived whatever the others had thrown at him, even [[spoiler:getting his house blown up by [[PresidentEvil Steve]]!]]
* {{Jerkass}}: While he wasn't the nicest guy in the early videos, Toad became a massive one in his later appearances. He's hateful, selfish (even more so than Mario at times), generally miserable, often complaining about everything and insulting everyone, and grumpy and rude without provocation.
* JerkassHasAPoint:
** His disdain for Mario isn't too surprising considering Mario is a ''massive'' HeroicComedicSociopath whose antics often threaten Toad's life and sanity.
** While he's rancorous to others for trivial reasons, he's right about Saiko being dangerous in "Doki Doki Mario Club" and he tells Boopkins needs to end the relationship sooner rather than later. Considering that he has [[{{Yandere}} Toadette]] to deal with, it's safe to say Toad's warnings come from a valid place.
** In "The Mario Purge", he vocally objects to letting Bob into the castle on the grounds that Bob wouldn't do the same for them… which is a fair assumption since Bob is known for being a backstabbing coward. Mario backs up Toad on this, citing how Bob left him and Luigi to the mercy of the T-Pose Zombies.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: While he's often a 24/7 dickhole to them, it's been shown multiple times that Toad ''does'' care for his "friends", most prominently shown in both "Mushrooms & Morons: Quest For The Spaghetti of Power", where he protects Luigi from a goblin, and "The Most Important Thing", [[OOCIsSeriousBusiness where even he looks remorseful for ditching Bob]] after the latter went through a HeelFaceTurn.
* JerkWithAHeartOfJerk: Of course, most of the time when he participates in a noble act, it's for selfish reasons or because he was forced to. An example is in "The Melancholy of Fishy Boopkins", where he is the only one who doesn't care about Boopkins' depression, only helping because Luigi was paying him.
* KarmicDeath: These days, whenever Toad is being an insufferable ass, expect him to suffer humiliating injury or death for it.
* MadeOfExplodium: Happens... quite a few times.
* OnlySaneMan: When he isn't eating candy.
* OutOfFocus: Same as Bowser. In his case, he didn't appear in the Anime Arc ''at all''.
* PresidentEvil: He became president for a day in "President Toad Washington" and became this.
* SitcomArchNemesis: He dislikes Mario, to the point that Toad wants him ''dead''.
* TokenEvilTeammate: He's the most selfish and obnoxious of the main characters.
* TookALevelInBadass: Somehow made a Transformers robot in "Mario University". Later seen in "Mario Battle Royale", where it delivers a CurbStompBattle to at least 5 competitors.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Candy. He's quite obsessed with it, and it's implied to be one of the few things that give him happiness.
* UnexplainedRecovery: Just like Peach, he was last seen in the hallway of the castle after being defeated [[spoiler:before it sinks into the ground for good]]. His appearance in "You Made Mario Do This" confirms that he escaped before that happened, but it's never explained how.
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: As shown "Mario Goes to DIDNEY WORL" and "Mario vs IT", his opinions on [[{{Yandere}} Toadette]] go beyond mere hatred into being full-on horrified of her.

A koopa menace to of the Mushroom Kingdom who's always trying to kidnap Princess Peach. [[HeelFaceTurn He later became one of Mario's friends.]]
----
* AbusiveDad: How he treats Bowser Jr. as demonstrated in "A Day In The Life Of Everyone". Deconstructed in "Bowser Loses Custody Of His Children", where said attitude with both Jr. and the Koopalings causes them to be taken away due to being such a bad father, needing to go to parenting counseling to reclaim them.
* AdaptationalHeroism: While canon Bowser could be AffablyEvil at times, he was still a villain bent on kidnapping Peach and [[TakeOverTheWorld taking over the world]]. Here, while Bowser starts off vaguely similar to his canon incarnation, he quickly softens up into a NiceGuy and a loyal (if slightly [[VitriolicBestBuds vitriolic]]) friend to Mario.
* AdaptationalWimp: Unlike Nintendo's official version (who, despite his own silly moments, still has a crapload of impressive [[NearVillainVictory Near-Villain Victories]] on his resume), this Bowser is... not very effective.
* AffablyEvil: After his appearance in "Hotel Mario", he doesn't come off as a villain in the majority of future episodes. "The Bowser that stole Christmas." was his first antagonistic role in a while, and it was only because he didn't get any presents from Santa. There are also episodes where he doesn't pose as a threat to the Mushroom Kingdom, but still opposes Mario in some kind of conflict.
* AntiVillain: Not only is he a pretty [[AffablyEvil nice guy]], he [[HarmlessVillain really sucks]] at kidnapping the princess or just villainy in general, hence why he likely just gave up altogether and became a friend to the heroes.
* ArchEnemy: To Mario in the episodes where he plays as an antagonist, as in canon. Note this was before GrowingTheBeard.
* ArtShift: Thanks to the existence of a ''VideoGame/GarrysMod'' model of his ''Super Mario 64'' appearance, this is for the most part averted. However in a few cases he's shown as a sprite of himself from ''VideoGame/MarioAndLuigiBowsersInsideStory'' and more commonly, his original ''Videogame/MarioParty'' model.
* AttackOfThe50FootWhatever: When he became giant in "A [=SM64=] Fairytale"'s final part, happens again in "Stupid Bowser's Fury".
* AttentionWhore: Stated to be a reason why he wants to kidnap the princess.
* BerserkButton: As "Stupid Bowser's Fury" reveals, he really doesn't like people acting like cats. Notably unlike most others, he did make an attempt to calm down rather than snap, but when he orders an Uber Eats meal to calm down and [[RageBreakingPoint the delivery guys misreads his name as "Cowser", along with Boopkins's god-awful voice...]]
* BigBadWannabe: He tries to kidnap the princess like canon, and he is a pretty recurring antagonist, but he [[CloudCuckoolander sucks at it]] and is overall more a wacky goofball than a BigBad.
* TheBigGuy: Easily the largest main-cast member, especially with his ''Super Mario 64'' model.
* TheBully: Sometimes, but most of the time he is pretty [[AffablyEvil friendly]].
* ButtMonkey: His life is almost as bad as Luigi's.
* CloudCuckoolander: Yeah, Bowser is a straight up goofball, just like Mario, which likely plays a hand in his and Mario's frenemy relationship.
* DemotedToDragon: InUniverse example: He was demoted to [[TheDragon secondary villain]] in "Two Evil Friends" because his evil plans constantly failed, and [[BigBad [=SMG3=]]] was made the main villain.
* DependingOnTheWriter: He can either be a serious threat to the kingdom (or Mario) or a borderline dumbass.
* DrivenToSuicide: Sometimes (mostly by Mario). Though as the years went on, the chances of having Mario even suggest Bowser do this has diminished.
* TheDitz: Sometimes, he can be just as ditzy as even ''[[LethallyStupid Mario!]]'' Of course, most of the time, he's the smarter of the two.
* EveryoneHasStandards: Even he found Steve's story in "The 2Spooky Story" to be weird.
--> '''Bowser:''' Um, I lost him at pie. What's he going on about?
* EvilIsPetty: Well, if you consider him ''[[HarmlessVillain evil]]''. [[spoiler:Taken to extremes in "The Mario Mafia". Mario didn't invite him to his party? [[PokeThePoodle Send a Goomba to tip over his spaghetti]].]]
* FacialHorror: His "BAOZA" face (as shown above). Just ''look'' at it!
* {{Foreshadowing}}: He may often make an early cameo in a blooper featuring him before his actual major appearance in the blooper. "The Visitor" and "The Lie That Was a Cake That Is a Lie" show examples of this.
* FlatCharacter: In the later bloopers, Bowser doesn't really do much aside from cooking due to being overshadowed by later characters.
* TheFriendNobodyLikes: Not as bad as Toad, but Bowser isn't well-liked by most of the cast. That's slowly changed throughout the years. He was even invited along for the group's 2019 Christmas trip to Miami, although due to his size he had to be tied to the roof of the bus.
* GoKartingWithBowser: Or cooking with him. "The 2Spooky Story" sees him join the main cast in telling ghost stories on Halloween. Mario almost ''literally'' invites him to do so in "Mario Can't Play With You Anymore" after Bowser has been reverted back to his canon personality but Mario hasn't (yet).
* HarmlessVillain: Most of his threats aren't a serious problem to the Mushroom Kingdom. In fact some of them are ''completely'' harmless.
* HeelFaceTurn:
** It's implied in "Hotel Mario" that he was kicked out of his castle by his own minions, and was forced to live in the dumpster behind the Mario Bros.' house:
--->'''Bowser''': see it's a funny story why i'm here… my troops sorta kicked me out of the whole evil thing so now i live here.
** "[=SwagQuest=]" and "The Bowser That Stole Christmas" both confirm that Bowser did eventually get his castle back, complete with his troops ([[OffscreenMomentOfAwesome likely via threat or beatdown]] Despite this and Bowser still regularly kidnapping Peach every now and then, he's still a friend of the main cast.
* HorribleJudgeOfCharacter: He is ''constantly'' manipulated by [[TheSociopath [=SMG3=]]].
* IneffectualSympatheticVillain: Not very effective without the aid of [=SMG3=].
-->'''Bowser''': Hey, I'll have you know I kidnapped a princess[[{{Beat}} ...]] for two minutes.
* ItsAllAboutMe: Won't hesitate to brag about how "fabulous" he is from time to time.
* TheyKilledKennyAgain: In more modern episodes, Bowser is always on the receiving end of a fatal attack, be it [[StrippedToTheBone getting skeletonized by burning]], [[StuffBlowingUp taking a bazooka to the face]], [[ArsonMurderAndJaywalking or being beaten senseless]] for [[ItMakesSenseInContext bring Chinese food to a party,]] yet always appears in the next episode, completely unscathed.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Well, he ''used'' to be this, then he became an AffablyEvil NiceGuy.
* LaughablyEvil: He eventually lost the "[[HarmlessVillain evil]]" part.
* ManlyTears: He cries a lot.
* NiceGuy: After "Hotel Mario", he came off as less of a villain and his AffablyEvil nature was exaggerated to the point of this.
* OutOfFocus: His appearances decreased significantly starting in 2019. Nowadays, he's lucky to even get an appearance over the [=OC=]s.
* PapaWolf:
** Despite his constant abuse and neglect of them, Bowser is horrified to learn he lost custody of Bowser Jr. and the Koopalings and is more than motivated to get an A in Peach's parenting class to get them back.
** Moreover downplayed, but his relationship with Meggy can also be seen as this at times (eg giving her a floatie to help her swim in "Stupid Mario Sports Mix" and helping her cook a Thanksgiving meal in "Mario And The Bob Mansion...").
* PokeThePoodle: Ironically enough, this is at his ''worst''.
* RealMenCook: In "Cooking with Bowser & Mario 2", he successfully prepares some ravioli (by [[ItMakesSenseInContext throwing a bag of Doritos onto an oven]]). Also demonstrated in "High School Mario" where he can bake a multi-layered cake pretty well.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: Subverted. While he possesses red eyes, he’s overall too incompetent to be an actual threat.
* TheRival: To Eggman for Peach's love in "Egg and Peach".
* SitcomArchNemesis: Whenever he acts as TheBully.
* StalkerWithACrush: To Peach in the earlier videos.
* SuperDrowningSkills: In "Stupid Mario Sports Mix", he needs a floatie to stay afloat in water.
* TooDumbToLive: Many times. Not knowing what shampoo was definitely counts.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Chicken nuggets, as first implied by his musical number in "Mushroom Kingdom's Got Talent" and then fully confirmed in "Stupid Mario Odyssey 2".
* {{Troll}}: Once kidnapped Peach while Mario was talking about how she wasn't captured in a while.
* VillainProtagonist: Despite [[DependingOnTheWriter sometimes]] being a bad guy, he is one of the shows' main characters.
* VitriolicBestBuds: Whenever they aren't fighting over Peach, Bowser is actually great friends with Mario. [[spoiler:Even during their feud with each other in "The Mario Mafia", they forgive each other and hug it out.]]
* VomitIndiscretionShot: Bowser gets a ''big'' one in "Son of a Bowser" when he, his son, and Mario watch ''Super Mario Twilight'' and witness a sex scene between Mario and Bowser, the latter of which showers the entire room in vomit. Can anyone blame him? It happens again when Bowser Junior suggests they watch SMT's many sequels right after the movie ends, and happens one last time when Bowser and Mario finally agree to it at the end of the video.

[[caption-width-right:1000:[[MistakenForGay You are gay.]]]]

Mario's younger brother, the deuteragonist of the Classic era and the tritagonist of the Modern era. He makes smarter decisions than Mario, but he's still as cowardly as he is in the actual games, if not more so. He is the Nintendo character in this show closest to his canon personality.
----
* AdaptationalDumbass: Despite being smarter than his more obviously stupid brother, he isn't very good at math. [[spoiler:When he gets reverted to his original self in the Lawsuit Arc, this still applies as he believes Mario's lie that [=SMG4=] and Meggy are his parents]].
* AmbiguouslyGay: Mario calls Luigi gay quite often, increasingly not without reason. Luigi is shown to be attracted to muscular men (like himself), reads the gay men's magazine ''Attitude'', and uses the pride flag as the background of his shop's sign. However, he has never been shown to be attracted to any other male character in the series, while he ''did'' have a relationship early on with Princess Daisy.
* ArtEvolution: In 2016, Luigi received a new appearance that altered his model's height, head, and mustache to distingush it from Mario's, and it replaced the bright neon green with a color more accurate to official canon Luigi. Previously, he had just been a PaletteSwap of his brother.
* ArtShift: Much like his brother, he can be a ''VideoGame/SuperMario64'' character in one second, and a modernized Luigi in another. In a kart, he's represented as ''a plush doll'' (specifically the one from the Crane Game from ''VideoGame/MarioParty'').
* AscendedToAHigherPlaneOfExistence: Luigi gains the ability to transfer people's consciousness to the astral plane thanks to several weeks of meditation.
* BaldOfEvil: When he gets triggered into ''Series/BreakingBad'' Mode. This also is one of the only times (if he isn't [[DemBones reduced to a skeleton]]) we see him without his trademark moustache.
* BerserkButton: No matter how many times he's thrown Luigi under the bus, ''never'' endanger Mario's life on his watch.
* BirdsOfAFeather: With Tari. Their bond over nonviolent matters (such as setting up a "no fighting" stand or hitting the Wario Bros. with toy mallets) is often played for laughs in the series… except when it isn't, namely the time they tried to break Kaizo's corruption of Saiko by ThePowerOfFriendship [[spoiler:and succeed]].
* ButtMonkey: He never seems to catch a break between sustaining many injuries and getting blamed for things he didn't do.
* CallToAgriculture: Starting with the Lawsuit Arc, Luigi has developed an interest in gardening.
* CloudcuckoolandersMinder: To Mario when [=SMG4=], Peach, or Meggy aren't filling the role.
* CowardlyLion: He acts timid and frightful most of the time, just like his video game counterpart.
* CruelAndUnusualDeath: Subverted in the Waluigi Arc. While it initially seemed he would burn to death in lava, it turns out it was just really warm watermelon flavored Kool-Aid.
* DeathIsCheap: Like his brother, Luigi always respawns after dying, no worse for wear, usually within minutes. Luckily for him, since he dies even more often than Mario (oftentimes he dies ''because'' of Mario).
* {{Deuteragonist}}: Was this before Meggy took the role in 2017, being the most recurring character besides Mario and [=SMG4=]. Even after Meggy joined the main cast, his role hasn't diminished nearly as much as other classic characters, so at most he’s just been demoted to the tritagonist role.
* TheDogBitesBack: Luigi generally bears the brunt of Mario's abuse, but he's not afraid to call him out or smack him around when he feels his brother's going too far with his antics. In fact, he can go up to taking revenge on Mario, as "TAKEN: Like An Idiot", "Mario For Hire", and "If Mario Was Spiderman" show.
* FoolishSiblingResponsibleSibling: Luigi is the Responsible Sibling to Mario's Foolish Sibling.
* HeroicSacrifice:
** [[spoiler:Performs one in "Mario SAW" to ensure Mario survives the labyrinth, willingly dropping into rising lava. Subverted in that the lava he drops into is actually warm Kool-Aid and he's let free for this selfless act]].
** [[spoiler: Attempts this again at the end of the ''PUZZLEVISION'' movie by diving in front of Mr Puzzle's energy blast to prevent it from hitting the rest of the crew. Can be considered {{Downplayed|Trope}} due to this getting him turned into his Meat Mallet form instead of killing him or even {{Subverted|Trope}} due to him considering that a good thing]].
* HiddenDepths: Many.
** Starting with "To Become A God", he began taking up meditation and quickly gained the power not only to ascend to the astral plane, but to take his friends' spirits there too. This proves critical for getting Meggy and Melony into Omnia Academy.
** ANY time he takes off his shirt, we see just how muscular he is – when asked, he credits yoga. He's one of only two "normal" characters known to be able to lift Mario (Meggy is the other). Keep in mind Mario's weight is usually measured in ''tons'' and sometimes as ''infinity''.
** Apparently some time in his past he was a god-tier basketball player, but didn't enjoy the lifestyle and left it behind. Still, if the need arises, he can be "ballin’".
* InnocentBlueEyes: One of the few members of the cast to play this trope completely straight. He, as in canon, has blue eyes, and is one of the most innocent members of the cast.
* IronButtMonkey: Luigi has taken a lot of punishment but always bounces back, up to and including being at ground zero of a nuclear explosion.
--> ''[[MajorInjuryUnderReaction Owwww...]]''
* LetsGetDangerous: He has his moments. The 2013 Halloween special and "The Adventures of Mario and Luigi" show examples of this.
* MistakenForGay: Frequently, usually from Mario. Turns out he's bisexual. However, later seasons show him to lean towards the homo side more often and he is especially more open about it from 2021 onward, having put up pride colors on a few occasions, a modern example being from the ending of "We Don't Talk About Luigi" where the sign that Luigi put up on his flower shop has the pride flag.
* NervousWreck: Indeed he is. Exaggerated in some bloopers.
* NewJobAsThePlotDemands: DiscussedTrope as shown in "Wild, Wild Mario", where he is stated to have at least 53 part-time jobs. He also stated this in "Detective Mario and Pikachu" and "The Corn Trip". Justified as he did it to pay for Mario's damages. Later on, as Mario himself became less destructive, Luigi took an interest in gardening and became good enough at it to open a flower shop.
* NiceGuy: No matter the situation, he's friendly through and through unless his BerserkButton is pressed. It's even his description on the wikia.
-->''He is often cheery, enthusiastic, fun, and ready to lend a helping hand.''
* NiceMeanAndInBetween: Is the "Nice" part of a trio with Mario and [=SMG4=], being mostly similar to the CowardlyLion NiceGuy that he's portrayed as in the games.
* NighInvulnerability: Luigi has survived everything the universe and his brother have thrown at him, up to and including being at ground zero of a nuclear blast.
* OnlySaneMan: Easily the most accurate to his Nintendo counterpart of all the Mario characters, keeping most of his primary personality traits without any super major changes.
* PaletteSwap: Until ArtEvolution went underway, he was the only canon ''Mario'' character to be represented as one in this series (aside from Wario and Waluigi in their first appearance, and the rare one-off appearances of Daisy).
* ProneToTears: He cries very often in [=SMG4=]'s bloopers.
* {{Revenge}}:
** On Mario in "Luigi's Payback".
** He also did this in "Taken (like an idiot)".
** Also in "Mario for Hire".
** Taken further in "Mario and The Diss Track" [[spoiler:when he informs everyone of what Bob did, and they decide to get back at him.]]
** In "If Mario was Spiderman" he summons villains from other Spiderman dimensions to attack Mario after Mario caused him to get interdimentional powers. {{Downplayed}} when he makes up for it after the villains run loose.
* SomethingElseAlsoRises: Usually his nose extends to indicate arousal.
* SpontaneousMustache: Played with. Just like his older brother, Luigi obviously sports a moustache 99% of the time. In his case it's a spontaneous ''soul patch'', only seen if he rips off his shirt or channels [[Series/BreakingBad Walter White]].
* SuddenlyVoiced: As noted above, whenever he's in a rap battle or channeling [[Series/BreakingBad Walter White]], he'll have a human (David Phillips, a.k.a [=VoicesExtremus=]) act his lines.
* SyntheticVoiceActor: In 2021, he started using the Uberduck.ai Luigi voice for some of his lines, though the bulk of his lines as of the end of 2022 are still Charles Martinet voice clips (and of course a soundalike for the rap battles), just like Mario. This would stop once Uberduck.ai removed copyrighted character voices from the site in 2023.
* TheUnintelligible: Like Mario, a LOT of his lines are Italian-esque gibberish with subtitles.
* WholesomeCrossdresser: Luigi, a wholesome guy anyway, is somehow able to wear clothes tailored to fit Peach (one dress of his ends up in her wardrobe by mistake) and is clearly happy when a Peach mask gives him her figure. Later on, he's shown doing the chores at his and Mario's home while wearing a sexy maid outfit, but the plot moves on before he is able to answer why.

** Stealing or killing his chickens. Or any of his farm products.
** ''Never'' say ''Minecraft'' is a bad game in front of him unless you want a fight, as Mario learned the hard way in "Mario VS Steve".
* BewareTheSillyOnes: Despite his idiocy rivaling, if not ''surpassing'' Mario's, he's strong enough to punch an industrial crane a fair distance, and can go ''Super Saiyan 3'' when sufficiently pissed off. He's even able to fight off [[spoiler:''the entire Super Smash Bros roster at that point'' and fights ''SANS'' to a stalemate.]] The official 5 million subs tier list classifies him as ''S-tier'' in terms of power, right next to Sans and [[spoiler:Zero]].
* BorrowedCatchphrase: His catchphrase is "Hi guys!", just like the happy-go-lucky Piranha Plant from ''WebAnimation/BowsersKingdom'' who has the same name.
* CallToAgriculture: Steve has been portrayed as a farmer, and is actually fairly good at being one.
* CharacterizationMarchesOn: In earlier videos, Steve was portrayed as a crazy guy who slept in the gutter. Now, as mentioned above, he's a crazy guy who works in a farm.
* CompositeCharacter: Previously, Herobrine and Steve were depicted as different entities. As of "Steve VS Smash Bros," Herobrine is Steve's OneWingedAngel form.
* DarkHorseVictory: [[spoiler:Despite having the slowest "Yoshi" of the racers, he wins due to the other competitors getting distracted through fights while on the track.]]
* ADayInTheLimelight: He's a central character in the old "super minecraft 64 bloopers" sub-series, "Meet the Steve" and "Mario VS Steve".
* DisproportionateRetribution: Picked a fight with Mario across the cosmos all because Mario thought ''Minecraft'' sucked.
* FakeShemp: His dialogue is only through various voice clips.
* FreakyFridayFlip: With Mario in "Mineswap", causing him to become a Mario PaletteSwap.
* MiseryTrigger: Whenever his [[BerserkButton chickens dying]] isn't someone else's fault, this occurs instead.
* OlderThanHeLooks: He's shown as an adult in a flashback where Luigi was a baby.
* OutOfFocus: He was one of the main characters early on, but he's more of a minor gag character nowadays.
* PresidentEvil: In "Ssenmodnar 9", he is a president doing wrong stuff like calling the wrong number & even blowing up Toad's house!
* PurpleIsPowerful: His eyes are purple, and is one of the most powerful characters in the series, being ranked in S-Tier on the official Power level tier list.
* TooDumbToLive: He confuses a complex piece of machinery for chocolate.
* TookALevelInBadass:
