! Defense Force Research Institute

!! Major Johnathan Devin
The quest's focus character.
* AwesomeByAnalysis: His logistical experience has given him an eye for patterns of efficiency. Just one look at the chaos of Sam's lab reveals to him that it's more organised than it first appears, and he can identify what appears at first to be random submarine traffic as resembling supply routes.
* DaChief: Plays this role as the head of the Institute.
* ExperiencedProtagonist: As a soldier of the US Army, seconded to the EUDF, Devin has been around the block more than a few times. His experience as a logistician, his actions to evacuate civilians during a Westphalian terror attack on the anniversary of the Day of Starfall, and his ground-breaking capture of a sample of Kaiju flesh are what make him ideal to lead the new Defense Force Research Institute.
* ImprovisationalIngenuity: As a logistician, Devin knows how to efficiently make full use of the resources he's got and work out how to get more. The feat that put him on General Peters' radar to lead the DFRI was supervising the preservation of the Defense Force's first sample of kaiju material - which up till that point just melted if cut off from the beasts - by means of judicious jury-rigging of a restaurant's deep freeze.
* MustHaveCaffeine: If Major Devin can be said to have one major quirk, it's that he practically mainlines coffee. One call with General Peters has her notice the leaning tower of discarded coffee cups behind Devin, and when one of Devin's assistants notes that his to-do list includes “ALL OF THE COFFEE”:
--> Katarina: Sir, you… you can't have all of the coffee. Can you?
--> Devin: Watch me.
* ProperlyParanoid: When setting up the Institute for the first time, one of his first priorities was security, to make sure whatever tech they develop doesn't get out unless it was on their terms. This paid off as they managed to pinpoint a Westphalian spy cell poking their nose in. Later after an interaction with George Armistead and receiving a suspicious flash drive, he got some guff from the AI girls for analysing it on a closed, isolated terminal, only to be vindicated when it blew up trying to transmit a virus.
* SupportingProtagonist: In any other Super Robot media, the organisational director would just be DaChief while the story follows TheHero out in the field. In this quest, the director is the focal character while his pilots only get the spotlight on missions.

!! Captain Haruko Sasaki
* AscendedFangirl: It's quite clear that she's a fan of, among other things, Super Robot anime, as demonstrated by her intimate familiarity with Brave Lord Valen. She is now part of a project to develop actual Super Robots.
* ClosetGeek: She implements full-on tokusatsu Invocations as vocal passcodes to authorize the Jackal's combinations. When Devin gives her a look, Sasaki simply says she's within her rights to do so.
* ImplausibleDeniability: Takes offense to Devin's claims that she's part of the DFRI's madness, but her ClosetGeek AscendedFangirl tendencies mean that she absolutely is.
* NumberTwo: Major Devin's straight-laced Executive Officer and field commander.
* NotSoAboveItAll: Despite how professional and thorough she acts on a daily basis, she has a hidden nerdy side.

!! DFAI-01 Diana
* MissionControl: Is most often seen monitoring the Defense Force Network, watching out for anything that requires the Institute's attention. During the Day of Destruction, she practically takes full battlefield overwatch, coordinating Perseus and its pilots, the Chimera Seeker squadron and the defenders inside the Yukimura Institute against the attacking Kaiju and Infiltrators, while still helping to pilot the Pegasus.

!! DFAI-02 Adrianna
* GenkiGirl: Is extremely excitable, and focuses that energy to weeding out any kind of infiltrator from the Institute, as well as browbeating everyone to be on schedule.
* OverreactingAirportSecurity: Was created to focus purely on the Institute's security, and her emotional template is based off of Sasaki and her moments of… enthusiasm. Many people are unnerved by this.
--> Devin: You're worried about an overly enthusiastic security officer personality. But she WILL keep the infiltrators out?
--> Ignatov: Infiltrators, casual visitors, possible familial or conjugal visits.
--> Devin: Perfect.
* TargetSpotter: Her subroutines have unusually potent targeting solutions, which allow the Pegasus's cannons to hit more accurately.

!! 1st Lt. Adam Wilde & Sgt. 1st Class James Henry
* BadassBookworm: They may be the Institute's chief engineers, but they are still trained soldiers and are capable of flying air support alongside Callaghan when needed.
* Expy: Given Wilde's surname and blond beard, and Henry's beret and stoic demeanour, they are obvious expies of Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman. It's also mentioned that their military division was stationed in Alameda.
* StraightManAndWiseGuy: Guess which is which. Hint: the one surnamed Wilde lives up to his name.
* TransformingVehicle: Their specialty, which eventually becomes one of the cornerstone technologies of the DFRI. Their EstablishingCharacterMoment is them rolling up to Devin in a truck slated for scrap, and extending power-loading arms from it.

!! Dr. Boris Ignatov
* ArtificialFamilyMember: Is the creator of the DFRI's Artificial Intelligences, and views them all as his daughters just like they view each other as siblings.
* NotSoStoic: At one point he implies he doesn't consider himself the OnlySaneMan... and when tasked to help build a wing of Seeker support craft controlled by rudimentary AI he demonstrates why, cackling like a MadScientist right alongside Greg from the Build Team.

!! EAI-01 Lana
* BattleaxeNurse: Downplayed. She often finds herself on repair duty fixing the Super Robots/robot chassis of the Super AIs, and her stubborn, argumentative attitude often makes her bedside manner lacking.
* VitriolicBestBuds: Has this relationship with Jiro Yukimura, with her constantly calling him “clown”, but can come up with brilliant ideas when working together.
* WrenchWench: She counts as a member of the engineering team, but is restricted to controlling mechanical arms as an AI. She definitely has the focused, no-nonsense, stubborn mindset of an engineer though.

!! Jiro Yukimura
* DefectorFromDecadence: He has some issues with his uncle Rin's use of the Super Robot as a mere shield against Sheol's Kaiju, and wanted him to be more proactive. The difference of opinion led Jiro to go out into the world to take pictures of what's really going on, and this route eventually led him to the DFRI and him getting hired by Devin as another engineer.
* GenreSavvy: His initial introduction has him lampshading a few tropes in the quest, like calling the Jackal a Mook Mech if it was on the bad guys' side, and calling the usage of Mercury V as merely a Kaiju shield as the “monster-an-episode” approach (and saying how they won't beat Sheol that way).
* AnOddPlaceToSleep: His primary quirk aside from his arguments with Lana would likely be his tendency to get inspiration late at night, which leads to him completing a design and then immediately passing out on the spot.
* VitriolicBestBuds: Has this relationship with assistant AI Lana, with him constantly calling her “shorty” from her avatar's appearance, but can come up with brilliant ideas when working together.

!! The Build Team - Anthony, Kelly and Greg
* Expy: Alongside their seniors Wilde and Henry, they are counterparts of Tory Belleci, Kari Byron and Grant Imahara, with the same team name to boot.

!! Dr. Sam Carlson
* Catchphrase: Has a few.
** One that is almost instantly echoed by his staff: SCIENCE!
** A SigningOffCatchphrase after his reports: "Sam Carlson, we're done here!"
** He likes to preface his lectures with "True fact..."
* MadScientist: And proud of it. He's been known to monologue grandiosely if Ivanna doesn't check him.
* PsychicPowers: His field of study before the Institute recruited him. His study into ESP proved instrumental in developing the Man-Machine Interface used to pilot the DFRI's mechs.

!! Dr. Maximilliene “Max” Brand
* HerrDoktor: Or Frau Doctor in this case; she is a researcher from Humbolt University.
* ImportedAlienPhlebotinum: She is the Institute's xenotechnology expert, having come to it with an alien relic to analyse.
* MadScientist: With the “hopefully hyperbolic” statements of grandeur to match her brilliance.
* LaughingMad: Prone to mad cackling whenever she hits a breakthrough.

!! SCAI-01 Ivanna
* CloudcuckoolandersMinder: Was created to be this for the Institute's resident Mad Scientists.
* HowUnscientific: Is noted to get visibly upset when new conventions violate conventional laws of physics. After observing ESP Theory managing to physically alter K-Class materials, Katarina has to stop Ivanna from rebooting out of frustration.

!! Zulu
* BecauseYouWereNiceToMe: Devin endeared himself to him quickly on the sole basis that he wasn't going to get scrapped on a whim.
* ItCanThink: Zulu regularly weirds out Legio Galbinus with just how advanced his thought processes and technical skills are, since Kausen in general seem to consider Drones to be roughly equivalent to dogs.
* MookFaceTurn: Was an ordinary Kausen Drone that was knocked out and captured by the Legion, and with some coaxing by Callaghan and Ichiro, became a Kausen tech researcher at the Institute.

!! Dr. Mary [=McCullough=]
* MotorMouth: During her introductory speech to Devin, she practically never stops for breath.
* PowerCrystal: Her claim to fame is faedium, a special kind of crystal used to store, conduct and amplify power. It soon proves its worth in the DFRI as a way to combine energy from different sources into one usable source, which was a stumbling block in combining different kinds of Transforming Vehicles.

!! AI-01 Katarina
* BenevolentAI: Her basis program is found buried in a pre-Unification bunker hidden deep under the Institute's campus, and with Dr. Ignatov's guidance, became a reliable helper to the DFRI.
* CoolBigSis: As the Institute's first true Artificial Intelligence, she takes this role to all her younger AI sisters and is always looking for ways to help out.
* JackOfAllTrades: She isn't tied to any department of the Institute and can help out in whichever department needs support.

!! Anna Smith
* BewareTheSillyOnes: Beneath her cheerful, mischievous attitude, she is an Intelligence agent to the core. One encounter with her has a stubborn Separatist captive going from "I'll tell you nothing!" to "AnythingButThat!" in no time at all.
* TheSneakyGal: As an Intelligence Services agent and their liaison to the Institute, this is par for the course for her. She makes her first appearance by infiltrating the DFRI without anyone the wiser, and Devin is always wary of her due to her occupation.
* StealthHiBye: Has a habit of doing these. Her first appearance is surprising Devin and Sasaki in the middle of their base who both pull their sidearms on her.

!! AI-02 Melinda
* MotorMouth: Inherits this quality from Dr. [=McCullough=], whom she inherited her brain patterns from. She tends to ramble on about random stuff while prodding everyone else into getting their work done.

!! 1st Lt. Richard Callaghan
!!! Super Robot: Custom Jackal; SCR-01 Beowulf
* AcePilot: In the cockpit of his Mecha, he is a skilled, agile steamroller that can blaze through enemy fire and rain down unholy punishment from all ranges.
* BerserkButton: He doesn't like it when history gets damaged. When a Kaiju fight ends up wrecking the NDV Admiral Sergey Gorshkov aircraft carrier, he enters a state of TranquilFury and moves to smite the Kaiju where it stands.
* HiddenDepths: Has a fascination with historical battles and tactics. In fact, the reason he joined the army was to pay for his history degree.
* LikeADuckTakesToWater: As a radar technical officer, he was expected to remain on the back lines, but Sam Carlson's psychic testing showed that he had aptitude with the Man-Machine Interface, and his adaptability and instinct soon led to him becoming the Institute's first Super Robot pilot.

!! 1st Lt. Oscar Tellison
!!! Super Robot: Custom Phalanx; SCR-02 Perseus Co-Pilot
* MookCommander: He proves to be a natural leader with ease at commanding lower-ranked troops. Fittingly, he is given an AceCustom of the Phalanx, mechs that work well in groups, as well as assigned command of the Argonauts.

!! 2nd Lt. Zhang Xiu Ying
!!! Super Robot: SCR-02 Perseus Co-Pilot
* GeoEffects: While undergoing simulation testing, she caught the Institute's attention by maximising her terrain advantage and making life very difficult for her enemies.

!! Cadet Jessica Satsuma
!!! Super Robot: SCR-03E Thunderbolt
* AttackAttackAttack: Her fighting style can only be described as aggressive. When faced with a problem, she charges at it head-on and hits it until it isn't a problem any more.
* InterspeciesFriendship: Is this to Legio Galbinus as a whole and Cavalier in particular. It's her association with them that led to their eventual relations with the Institute.
* JumpedAtTheCall: When she is told that an alien artifact has chosen her as the ideal candidate with the right amount of conviction, courage and compassion to become a Champion of Varulne, empowering her to enable her to fight an alien force, she wastes no time signing up since it'll mean being able to help her Kausen friends.
* Sentai: Probably the straightest example thus far. In addition to the C-Crystal outright making her a Henshin Heroine that can deal with a crowd of Kaiju infiltrators single-handedly, she can call her craft to her with an Invocation of ”Thunderbolt! Come Here!”, teleport inside, and summon DramaticThunder out of nowhere.

!! SAI-01 Ichiro Banner
!!! Super Robot: Centurion chassis
* ArmCannon: What the tank gun of his Bulwark tank alt-form becomes when transformed.
* TheBerserker: Tends to vent his frustrations in combat, which leads to him doing stupid things like punching his arm into the Brute's side and then firing the cannon attached to it, while blatantly disregarding the fact that doing so is likely to blow his own arm off.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Is friendly for the most part, but has a hidden bank of rage buried within him that's just waiting to come out. When it does, look out.
* OnceDoneNeverForgotten: Seems somewhat embarrassed by the "punch, then shoot" incident mentioned above, but everyone considers it his defining moment.
* SapientTank: He is an ArtificialIntelligence with a robot body that can transform into a Bulwark tank.

!! The Argonauts - SAI-02 Charlie, SAI-03 Frankie and SAI-04 Iris
!!! Super Robot: Jackal chassis (all three to start), Phalanx chassis (Charlie), Shade chassis (Frankie), Steed chassis (Iris)
* FighterMageThief: The basic roles of these three in combat.
** Charlie's loud and in-your-face fighting style allows him to DrawAggro and his Phalanx chassis (Buckler IFV alt-mode) is the biggest and most heavily armored of his siblings, making him the Fighter.
** Iris is the Thief, as her Steed chassis (motorcycle alt-mode) is the smallest and fastest compared to her brothers. She is also equipped with targeting beacons that allow her allies to track targets and hit them with greater accuracy.
** Frankie pulls double-duty as an offensive and supportive Mage; on offense his BFG heavy energy blaster can lay down impressive firepower, and on support his array of surveillance and engineering tools allow him to monitor his opponents and fix up his siblings. However, his Shade chassis (surveillance van alt-mode) isn't built for direct combat.
* RoboFamily: Views each other as siblings, as well as their fellow SAI Ichiro. They squabble just like some too.

!! SCR-01 Beowulf
!!! Alt-form: Coyote patrol truck
* AceCustom: Is a custom, upgraded model of the Jackal, the DFRI's first Super Robot model.
* CombiningMecha: Beowulf's specialty is combining with its support units to adapt to any situation.
** Combining it with the Shepherd cargo truck gives it the Timberwolf formation, a MightyGlacier that can take blows and dish them out just as hard.
** Combining it with the TMU/Falcon modular aircraft gives it its Foxhound formation, a FragileSpeedster that can outfly almost anything and deliver punishing lightning blasts.
** Combining it with both gives it its SuperMode, Beowulf Fenrir.
* ElementalWeapon: Makes use of the electrically-charged Arc-Blade and Arc Cannon, and can also ignite its fists in Inferno Mode.
* RedIsHeroic: Beowulf's color scheme is bright crimson.
* SummonToHand: Can magnetically call the Arc-Blade to its hand if it loses it mid-combat.

!! SCR-02 Perseus
!!! Alt-form: Buckler infantry fighting vehicle
* AceCustom: Like Beowulf, Perseus is a custom, upgraded model of the Phalanx.
* BloodKnight: When plugged into the Psychic Theatre, both Tellison and Zhang can feel Perseus's urge to fight.
* LuckilyMyShieldWillProtectMe: The Phalanx transforming robots carry expandable, disposable shields on their arms, and Perseus is no exception.
* MightyGlacier: Its armor plating makes it as tough, if not tougher, than the Timberwolf.
* ScarsAreForever: On its first incursion against the Westphalians, Perseus received a scar across its eye. Wilde and Henry decided to keep it because it gave Perseus character (and also because Henry couldn't buff it out).
* SuperMode: It can combine with two Sledder support trucks to become Perseus Megas, equipped with Pile Bunkers and a ChestBlaster.

!! SCR-03E Thunderbolt
!!! Alt-form: Custom Pilum gunship
* ShockAndAwe: Its connection with Jessica's C-Crystal allows it to summon literal thunderstorms with every strike.
* VehicularTurnabout: Was rebuilt from the retrieved chassis of the Westphalian Warlord's custom Pilum gunship.

! Allied Organisations

!! Brigadier General Louis Peters
* DaChief: Is this to Devin as his boss, being the one to assign him leadership of the Defense Force Research Institute.

!! General George Armistead
* CommanderContrarian: Ostensibly on the same side as the DFRI, even being one of its main sponsors, but is also one of its most stringent critics.
* GeneralFailure: Downplayed; while he's a shrewd and well-connected individual, his forces have dropped the ball on a couple occasions, making life harder for the Institute. For example, his Air Force squadron was slow to assist with a Kausen attack, and the Westphalian attack on the Institute may have took a route that went right through his patrolling territory.
* TheMole: The A New Armsrace interlude reveals that he is indeed a Westphalian mole. That said, it's unknown his level of loyalty, given that he passed Devin a virus-infected flash drive that made the DFRI director paranoid enough to catch another Westphalian plot, which seems to have been the reaction that Armistead intended.
* ObstructiveBureaucrat: He's a known critic of the Super Robot project, and has gotten on Devin's nerves more than once.

!! Galbinus-Regulus
!!! Alt-Form: Bulwark tank (Centurion chassis)
* TheChainsOfCommanding: The time spent wrangling his Legionnaires and fighting Tyrannous have worn on him, but he's not about to stop any time soon.
* GrinOfAudacity: His plans to stymie Bandit's breakout has him give this sort of smile a few times. Several of the DFRI personnel are a bit taken aback at how sinister his smile is.
* HeroOfAnotherStory: He leads his namesake Legion against the menace of Tyrannous and the Free Brothers.
* LargeAndInCharge: Towers over even the Beowulf, which is as tall as a two/three-storey building.
* LaserBlade: His melee weapon in robot mode is his tank-gun transformed into an energy halberd.
* TheLeader: Of Legio Galbinus.
* SpacePolice: Was a detective/police officer on Mekaen, assigned to capturing the criminal Tyrannous and his Free Brothers, the battle of which led them all to Earth.

!! Cavalier
!!! Alt-Form: Coyote patrol truck (Jackal chassis)
* BloodKnight: Was a prizefighter back on Mekaen, and has the time of his life when he's in a scrap.
--> Cavalier: C'mon! I'm the Rex of Red Ring-9! You all think you're tough!? Come one, come all! I've got more than enough for all of you!
* InterspeciesFriendship: Was the first one to run into and befriend a human, Cadet Jessica Satsuma, and their friendship eventually led to relations between Legio Galbinus and the DFRI.
* MakeSomeNoise: Uses a concussion blaster in combat that can shake foes apart with pure sound.

!! Patch
* FaceOfAThug: Is initially described as having a sinister, skeletal body with a bone-white color scheme and an arm bristling with mechanical gizmos, but it belies his extreme care and concern for his patients.
* TheMedic: His role for Legio Galbinus.

!! Architect
* TheEngineer: His role for Legio Galbinus.
* LargeRunt: Is only about twice as tall as a human when most Kausen are easily as tall as houses.
* TechnoBabble: Is often seen walking around muttering engineering ideas.

!! Hotwire
!!! Alt-Form: Engineering truck (Jackal chassis)
* BarrierWarrior: Uses deployable hard-light barriers in combat.
* CommunicationsOfficer: His role for Legio Galbinus.
* GunNut: Is rather well-versed in the maintenance of Kausen firearms, and Mary and Zulu pick his processor for expertise in refining their own energy blaster.
* HairTriggerTemper: He's not called Hotwire for nothing.

!! Tracker, Nailhead and Breakneck / Axiom
!!! Alt-Forms: Engineering truck (Nailhead), Jackal chassis (Tracker), Sports car (Breakneck)
* CombiningMecha: Three Kausen given alt-forms of a Jackal, an engineering truck and a sports car, who then all combine into one robot.
* MotorMouth: Breakneck apparently takes after the Blurr method of speaking, that is, so fast that it all blurs together. Though it might be a side-effect of his kinetic module; when he talks with Highway, he speaks with a perfectly ordinary rhythm.
* NoIndoorVoice: When the new Kausen combiner Axiom comes along, the medic Patch asks if he can speak slightly softer. Axiom just booms, “No.”
* ScratchyVoicedSenior: Tracker has a raspy voice and what Callaghan calls a 'crotchety old man who doesn't care' air, and is often seen lecturing Nailhead and later Charlie on their behaviors.
* SuperSpeed: Breakneck is equipped with a kinetic module that accelerates him to incredible speeds.
* WorkingClassHero: Nailhead is a simple maintenance worker in civilian life, before going to active duty as a Legionnaire.

!! Herald
* TheBlank: Has no obvious face, just a flickering faceplate.
* ShotgunsAreJustBetter: As befitting his straightforward speech, he uses a straightforward shot blaster as his primary weapon.
* TheStrategist: Is this to Legio Galbinus.
* TerseTalker: Speech: Concise

!! Hubcap
* TheDriver: Is mostly seen as the pilot of the Legion's dropship, Metatrine's Shield.

!! Drifter
* BunnyEarsLawyer: A crazy skirmisher that is still incredibly capable in a fight.
* DrawAggro: He's really good at drawing enemy attention, of the "punch them in the face and run away laughing" variety.
* TheGhost: Was only mentioned as a potential support unit to be seconded to the DFRI; hasn't yet appeared on-screen.
* ShellShockedVeteran: Was a veteran of so many conflicts on Mekaen that he apparently snapped, but is still a functioning (if nonsensical) Legionnaire.

!! Breaker
* AcidAttack: Uses some form of corrosive gas to break down his opponents' armor. This was his main tool as a salvager back on Mekaen.
* TheGhost: Was only mentioned as a potential support unit to be seconded to the DFRI; hasn't yet appeared on-screen.

!! Ocular
!!! Alt-Form: Spy drone
* TheSpeechless: Doesn't speak at all, probably in relation to his mode as a spy drone. He still can communicate with other Kausen.
* SurveillanceDrone: Is purely a scout and spy drone that can analyse enemies, offer battlefield data, and disrupt enemy comms.

!! Delphi
* BenevolentAI: Was created by the DFRI specifically to assist Legio Galbinus and counter the likes of the Free Brothers' Oracle Matrix, Chimaira.
* GirlFriday: As an Earth-created counterpart to the Oracle Matrixes of Mekaen, she serves this role to Legio Galbinus, helping them organise and manage their operations and freeing up the higher ranks like Galbinus and Herald to perform other duties.

!! Regency of Varulne
* TheChooserOfTheOne: Was tasked to seek out a pure-hearted champion that they could empower and bring back to Varulne to assist it in protecting their homeworld.
* SuperEmpowering: Can produce C-Crystals, which connect to courageous and pure-hearted individuals to augment their capabilities.
* UnreliableNarrator: While nominally allied with the DFRI and willing to provide technology to help defend them against their threats and enhance their space program, Devin can't help but feel like there's more to the story and its description of the conflict than it's telling.
* YouCanTalk: Max didn't know the alien artefact could speak until it did.

!! Dr. Rin Yukimura
* TheChainsOfCommanding: Like Galbinus and Devin, the years of holding off Sheol's forces have put a lot of weight on his aged shoulders, but he refuses to buckle under the weight.
* NotSoAboveItAll: Is relatively calm and determined under pressure... until he finds himself arguing Kaiju biology and K-Class material with Dr. Sam Carlson in HamToHamCombat worthy of the Mad Scientists that they are.
* TheyCalledMeMad: The Union Academic Review Board found his Aeon Particle Theorem ridiculous. He took it well, all things considered.

!! Hiroki Matsumoto
!!! Super Robot: Mercury V
* AcePilot: Of the Steamroller type. When piloting Mercury V, he is a titanic brawler that just will not stay down no matter what Sheol's monsters try, but even in just the Falcon Mobile, he prefers blasting through swarms of enemy fliers with its onboard weapons.
* CallingYourAttacks: Shouts out Mercury V's attacks at full volume.
* GoodOldFisticuffs: In the Day of Destruction, he is seen holding off the Kaiju infiltrators with his bare hands and street brawling.
* HeroOfAnotherStory: As the pilot of Mercury V, he is the frontline warrior protecting the world against the Kaiju.
* HotBlooded: As is standard for any protagonist in the genre. He'd rather be out on the front lines, flying the Falcon Mobile and harassing enemy forces, than wait around for Mercury to be fully repaired.
* PowerStereotypeFlip: Is as HotBlooded as any Super Robot protagonist worth their salt, while piloting a Super Robot that makes use of cold as its primary weapon.
* ReformedCriminal: Downplayed, it's mentioned that Hiroki was an ex-Delinquent before being recruited by the institute.

!! Keiko Hamakawa
* ActionGirl: When infiltrator Kaiju get into the Yukimura Institute, the ex-soldier Keiko has no trouble picking up an assault rifle and getting the job done.
* FriendOnTheForce: Military variant; she is an ex-GSDF soldier who serves as the Yukimura Institute's military liaison and Dr. Yukimura's NumberTwo.
* RedOniBlueOni: The blue to Hiroki's red, whom she constantly has to ride herd on to keep from doing something reckless.

!! Daichi Sendo
* TheEngineer: For the Yukimura Institute.
* LetsGetDangerous: Though he may just be a hangar jockey, he is still an ex-Marine and will not hesitate in dealing with Kaiju infiltrators with a WrenchWhack or ForkliftFu. His team are just as unexpectedly competent in fending off infiltrators will all the amenities a Super Robot hangar has to offer.

!! Dr. Samuel Vaughn
* TheGhost: Hasn't appeared onscreen yet.
* TheSmartGuy: Alongside Dr. Yukimura's Aeon Particle Theorem, he is the creator of the MechaEnablingPhlebotinum that is Tritonium alloy, which Mercury V is entirely built of.

!! Mercury V
* AnIcePerson: The Aeon Particles that are the source of Mercury V's power seems to have a cooling effect, as it forms frosty vapour around itself when it engages. Mercury V makes judicious use of this ice in almost all of its moves, including Hail Storm, Chill Glare, and its Blizzard Blast FinishingMove.
* Expy: Mercury V has lots of references to Anime/MazingerZ, from its dark color scheme, to its Gale Punch and Gale Spike RocketPunch moves, to its method of the pilot flying an airborne craft (in Hiroki's case, the Falcon Mobile) that becomes the robot's cockpit/head.
* TheGiant: As the Kaiju's primary opponent, Mercury V is the largest of the Super Robots showcased thus far, around the size of buildings while most of the others are the size of houses. Add to that its Tritonium armor, and it's clear why Mercury V's strong point is an opponent that just will not go down no matter what the Kaiju throw at it. Blows from a Kaiju that could cripple the Perseus and down the Pegasus in one blow barely even faze it.

!! (Retired) Captain Charles Mander
* DaChief: For his titular Mander Security Solutions.
* InsistentTerminology: He always refers to his old job as an officer of “His Majesty's Navy, in support of the Earth Union”, and not of the “Defense Force Navy”.

!! Erika Arthur Drake
!!! Super Robot: Valiant
* AcePilot: Pilots Valiant like a Bushwhacker, using its smaller size, its incredibly agile properties, and its dizzying array of support weapons to keep her foes off balance. She even dresses in old-time piloting gear complete with bomber jacket and flight goggles.
* HeroOfAnotherStory: She and Valiant are the ones holding off the likes of the Westphalian Separatists.
* MeaningfulName: Her middle and surnames are a clear reference to Arthur Pendragon, fitting the Arthurian knight aesthetic of Valiant as a whole.
* SamusIsAGirl: She was first introduced by her middle name, and had no indication of being a woman until her first name was revealed.

!! Patrick
* BadassDriver: Is completely unflappable while driving the Galahad through an active combat zone.
* BattleButler: While not a direct combatant, he is Erika's manservant and supports her in battle.
* SupportPartyMember: Assists Valiant in combat by driving the Galahad support truck loaded with all its auxiliary weapons, launching them to Erika at her request.

!! Dr. Marcus Dinym
* GeekPhysique: Has a lanky frame, industrial strength bifocals, and the sharpest mind that Mander has ever seen.
* TheSmartGuy: For MSS, as the creator of the MechaEnablingPhlebotinum that is the super-magnetic Dinym currents.
* MeaningfulName: Rearrange "Dr. Dinym" and you get "Myrddin", which fits the Arthurian knight aesthetic of Valiant.
* WizardBeard: As befitting the inspiration behind his MeaningfulName, he has a long grey beard that Mander thinks could be used as a sail.

!! Valiant
* DetachmentCombat: The basis of Valiant's fighting style. Since its limbs are solely held on by Dinym currents and super-magnetism, they can be easily detached, manipulated, and exchanged for other auxiliary limbs and weapons.
* ImpossiblyGracefulGiant: Valiant is probably the most agile of the Super Robots introduced thus far, due to its supermagnetism.
* KnightInShiningArmor: Valiant has this aesthetic.
* MechaExpansionPack: Valiant has a host of auxiliary modular arms with alternate weapons, including a KnightlySwordAndShield, a BattleBoomerang, and even a flak-shooting ArmCannon.

!! Major Lenora Jenkins
* BeleagueredBoss: Isn't quite as inured to her staff's shenanigans as Devin is, and they can really get on her nerves sometimes.
* TrademarkFavoriteDrink: Mainlines tea just as much as Devin mainlines coffee.

!! Norton Gustaff “Gus” Neer
* BunnyEarsLawyer: Like most of the other experts in this quest, he's the project's resident engineer who's only described as “highly unorthodox and unpredictable, but efficient."
* Expy: Of the Engineer from VideoGame/TeamFortress2. His introductory image is him in coveralls, a hard hat, welding goggles, and leaning against a large cannon.
* StevenUlyssesPerhero: His name can be written as N. G. Neer ("Engineer").

!! Phil
* Expy: Of the Pyro from VideoGame/TeamFortress2. He commonly appears wearing a hazmat suit and a welding mask, and communicates only in mumbles that Neer can still perfectly understand.

!! Dr. Albert Schemming
* Expy: Of Dr. Wily, as a mechatronics engineer experimenting with robotic frames, with balding EinsteinHair and a huge moustache. Also, "Schemming/scheming" vs. "Wily"

!! Dr. Zhang Ru
* AnotherDimension: His thesis, similar to Dr. Yukimura's Aeon Particle Theorem, revolves around Fulgur Particles, energy from yet another dimension that can be channeled into a Super Robot.

!! Victor Forge
* ArtificialLimbs: Uses a prosthetic hand on a regular basis - and a lifelike hand made out of nanites when he wants to prank people.
* Nanomachines: His baby is the Polymorph Nanites, which can reconfigure into any shape imaginable around an internal skeleton, though they do consume a lot of power in the process.

!! Lt. Arnold Weller, Sgt. Anya Rodenko and Sgt. Vincent Smythe
* AcePilot: All three of them co-pilot the project's robot, though their piloting style has not been demonstrated yet.
* BunnyEarsLawyer: It's been noted that all three of them are verifiably manic, being nuts enough to withstand the nightmare-inducing Fulgur Particles while piloting their super robot.
* NightmareFuelStationAttendant: All of them are apparently unfazed by the nightmares generated by the Fulgur Particles and spend their off time joking and comparing each other's nightmares. Jenkins sees it as GallowsHumor to cope with the strain.
-->Weller: "What was it this time, fellas? Sank to the core while fully conscious this time.\
Smythe: Piddling, that. Got sucked out into the vacuum of space while seeing the helmet's glass cracking inwards.\
Rodenko: Paralysis followed by slowly oncoming roadkill by tractor."

! Enemy Organizations

!! Tyrannous
!!! Alt-Form: Pilum gunship
* BadBoss: Is especially well-known for tearing apart his Kausen Drone Mooks to blow off steam.
* BigBad: Of the Kausen conflict.
* CoolPlane: Is a cool plane; his alt-mode is a Pilum gunship.
* CoolSword: In robot mode, he combines his gunship-mode's rotors into a sword.
* EvilMask: Given that he's an Homage to an evil Optimus Prime/Star Saber, his mouth-covering faceplate gives off this air.
* NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast: More than a few people have commented how his name screams “I am evil”.
* NonIndicativeName: He's the leader of a gang of anarchic criminals called the Free Brothers, yet has a name stemming from “tyranny”.

!! Bandit
!!! Alt-Form: Coyote patrol truck
* ArmsDealer: Is shown making deals with the Westphalians to exchange samples of technology.
* ItsPersonal: Has been mentioned to severely hold grudges. The Legion suggests using this to their advantage, by using Callaghan and Beowulf (who beat his ass the first time) as bait to draw him out.
* OnlyInItForTheMoney: Is frequently shown excited about all the shards he can make from raids and other endeavors, and while he's captured by the Legion, fumes about all the money-making opportunities he's missing out on.
* UnfinishedUntestedUsedAnyway: Has a habit of using experimental tech in the field, from deflector shields to cluster bombs, which doesn't always turn out well for him.

!! Scrapheap
* AliensOfLondon: When he first speaks, Callaghan wonders why he has a British accent.
* GiantScrapRobot: When first seen, his rust-marked, cobbled-together chassis is described as “only holding together with duct tape and dreams“.
* MadDoctor: The Free Brothers' repair specialist, who is wanted by the Mekaen Dominion for their equivalents of malpractice, organ theft and practicing without a license.
* MultiArmedAndDangerous: His robot form has a crane arm hanging off one shoulder that he uses in combat.

!! Crackdown
!!! Alt-Form: Police cruiser
* LaughingMad: His first appearance in one of the side chapters has him cackling like a lunatic.
* TelescopingRobot: His robot body can extend blasters from everywhere.
* TriggerHappy: Really enjoys the idea of high ordnance, and prefers the "fire-everything-at-everywhere" strategy of combat.

!! Cinder
!!! Alt-Form: Fire truck
* PyroManiac: Is very eager to use his flamethrowers to find the melting point of the Legion.

!! Rangefinder
* TheDragon: Is outright identified as Tyrannous's right hand, though Bandit just sees him as a big dumb brute.
* TheEngineer: Seems to come up with many of the Free Brothers' mechanical solutions, like building a supersized Drone and the Predasaur.
* ThePigPen: When he gets up close and personal with Bandit, the latter grumbles that he could use a decontaminant.

!! Tow Bar

!! Quarry
* EgomaniacHunter: Seems to have this personality, with the long blaster to go with it.

!! Throughput

!! Smelter

!! Crossfire

!! Highway
!!! Alt-Form: Motorcycle
* CombatTentacles: Can extend his arms into these.
* PintsizedPowerhouse: Is noticeably shorter than his fellow Free Brothers, yet when the taller Crackdown gets on his nerves, has no trouble choking him out.
* SuperSpeed: Is equipped with an accelerating kinetic module, just like Breakneck.
* WeUsedToBeFriends: He and Breakneck were once colleagues, until Highway decided that Tyrannous made a better offer than the Council.

!! Chimaira
* AIIsACrapshoot: The Oracle Matrix of the Kausen vessel Belligerent, she has remained allied with Tyrannous and is a large force-multiplier for the Free Brothers.
* SpaceshipGirl: An evil example as the Oracle Matrix of the Kausen vessel Belligerent.

!! Koenig / The Red King
* BigBad: Of the Westphalian Separatist incursions.

!! PJH / Pak
* ArmsDealer: In addition to supplying the Separatists with resources, he seems to have connections to the other two enemy factions. A side-story shows him selling a Pilum gunship to Bandit to serve as Tyrannous's new body.

!! Wallace

!! Yuan
* RobotMaster: He is one of the key robot builders for the Westphalian separatists.
* TheyCalledMeMad: Implied; after getting over a slump and building a sleeker robot in comparison to the Westphalians' previous Giant Scrap Robots, he declares that the Union will know of his genius.

!! Warlord
!!! Craft: Custom Pilum gunship
* CoolPlane: Pilots a customised Pilum gunship that's equipped with mechanical arms built for swatting away missiles and absolutely bristling with ordnance.
* TheDreaded: Is a particularly infamous Westphalian commander with ties to the mysterious Red King, who personally leads an attack against the Research Institute in his custom Pilum gunship. Even after he is felled, the Earth Union's Intelligence division is seen double- and triple-confirming that he truly is dead, and even then, General Peters has concerns about a Legacy Character taking up the mantle.
* FaceDeathWithDignity: Right as the Beowulf unloads its Thunderstrike on him, he keeps recording and transmitting his combat data, praises his foe as a WorthyOpponent, and dies with Westphalia's name on his lips.
* MacrossMissileMassacre: Can perform an AlphaStrike by unloading its entire arsenal on a single target.

!! The Bruces
!!! Craft: The Brute
* BunnyEarsLawyer: The Separatist leader Wallace find them absolutely detestable, but they're the only ones mad enough to build their deathtraps and insane enough to pilot them.
* IdenticallyNamedGroup: They're three separate pilots, all named Bruce.
* LowerClassLout: A trio of beer-swilling yahoos who are as crazy as they are uncouth, and hate the Earth Union for imposing “rules”.

!! George Sheol
* BigBad: Of the Kaiju attacks.
* EvilutionaryBiologist: His genetic research was radical, to say the least, with proposals like culling violent impulses from the more "unsavory" members of society, and even lobotomizing them and putting their bodies to good use.
* MadScientist: Probably the straightest example in this quest; since he created the Kaiju to menace the Earth Union solely for having his research snubbed.
* MakerOfMonsters: The father of the Kaiju.
* RedRightHand: Whether by chemical overexposure or deliberate application, Sheol has apparently taken on some unnatural physical qualities that echo his evil genius, including pallid green skin, sickly yellow eyes, mad EinsteinHair, and a cane-supported limp.
* TheyCalledMeMad: The Union Academic Review Board laughed at his radical genetic research. Unlike Yukimura, he didn't take it well.

!! Ozawa Harumi
* GamerChick: Seems to have this personality and skills. She "pilots" the Titanosaur Kaiju with some OrganicTechnology shaped into a pair of joysticks, and even commands their flyers like a RealTimeStrategy game, complete with a holographic keyboard and mouse with click-drag attack command actions.
* LockedOutOfTheLoop: Her Transhuman surgery apparently took five years to complete, which means she was occupied when the DFRI and their Super Robots emerged onto the scene.
* Transhuman: Was apparently a human who joined up with Sheol to become a pilot, with a transformation into a LizardFolk as part of the bargain.

!! Percivax-Austerus
* ByTheBookCop: Is a lawmech like Galbinus, but one clearly more focused on procedure and maintaining the AlienNonInterferenceClause.
* DramaticIrony: Immediately on arriving in the solar system, he assumes that the locals aren't technologically advanced enough to notice his ship's approach. Cut to Adrianna reporting to Devin that she's detected a new Mekaen ship's arrival.
* SkewedPriorities: It may be a part of his apparently political orders from Councilmech Secundus, but he's more focused on apprehending Galbinus for apparently uplifting an indigenous species instead of arresting Tyrannous, brushing him off as a common criminal who will fold when he finds him.

!! Victoria
Percivax's ship's Oracle Matrix.
* GoodNewsBadNews: Percivax notes that she has a habit of giving her reports in this manner.
