!!Vance
[[quoteright:100:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/charava_2476.png]]
The protagonist of ''Three The Hard Way''. Vance starts out as a bartender in Somerset, but later becomes a bounty hunter in hopes of earning money and becoming rich and famous.
----
* BackFromTheDead: He is killed by Benson and Mauldin in at the end of Act 2, but is revived by Kanna and Lucama.
* BelligerentSexualTension: With Duchess Fayette. Even though he frequently insults her, he definitely cares about her, and nearly goes on a rampage against Benson and Mauldin when they appeared to have harmed her. Anderson calls her his girlfriend because of it.
* BountyHunter: Vance is hired as one in Branchville. Most of his involvement in the conflict comes from the fact that the Dukes need his services, and most of the obtainable money from the game actually comes from his job, since the monsters in the game gives very little gold to loot.
* ChivalrousPervert: He shamelessly flirts with any pretty girl he sees, but doesn't actually force himself on them. He even says that pornographic stuffs disturbs him.
* EmbarrassingNickname: His mother calls him “Vancie”, much to his chagrin.
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: His immoral tendencies is immediately apparent during his introduction, where he's being scolded by his father for skinning a neighbour's cat out of boredom.
* HateAtFirstSight: Vance picked a fight with Clifton on their first meeting, and they've been at odds with each other ever since.
* HeadbuttingHeroes: Vance and Clifton would insult and derail each other every chance they get, and Vance is absolutely disgusted by the idea of hanging out alone with him. In one scene, he assures Kanna that just because they happen to travel together, does ''not'' mean they are friends.
* HiddenDepths: Vance appears to be a rude and foul-mouthed country bumpkin who thinks too highly of himself, but he’s actually quite witty and observant. In fact, he was the first person in the party to deduce Duke Greene’s reasons for sparing Bragg, even though he was travelling with the two "Smart ones" of the group, Kanna and Anderson.
* IdiotHero: Subverted. Vance may seem lazy and mostly uninformed about his kingdom's politics, and Manteo thought him to be stupid during their first encounter; but, as mentioned in HiddenDepths, he is quick to pick up information, and could give some good advice to his troubled friends if needs be.
* ItsPersonal: Holds a personal grudge against Benson after the latter almost killed him in Pittsboro.
-->'''Vance:''' Just one thing. Benson is mine. I have a personal score to settle with him.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He's rude, lazy, selfish and greedy, but he definitely cares for his friends (especially North and Fayette), gets worried over their well-being and tries to help them talk out their problems.
* LikeFatherLikeSon: Vance's father is just as rude as disrespectful to others as Vance is. Lampshaded by Fayette when the group visits him.
-->'''Fayette:''' Now I know why Vance is such a jerk.
* MommasBoy: Vance is rude and fearless towards everyone and everything except his mother. He'd mouth-off to opponents that can beat him up, but fears his mother's wrath -- and while he appears to dislike his father, he freaks out when he believes his mother is in danger.
* PragmaticHero: He does most of his good deeds for money, and is willing to cheat and blackmail others to get more cash, but he knows when not to cross the line.
--> '''Duke Salem''': Tell me, if the price is right, will you work for [[BigBad Duke Greene]]?
--> '''Vance''': I will never work for that prick.
* OddFriendship: Vance is a morally ambiguous AntiHero who frequently does things his own way, but he is best friends with the more noble-minded North, despite frequently disagreeing over their approaches to the ongoing events.
* OnlyInItForTheMoney: Being a greedy bounty hunter, Vance initially would only agree to help Fayette and the Dukes because he's expecting huge payments for his services. However, by the final act, he actually offered to aid her for free -- as a part of her 21st birthday gift.
* SheIsNotMyGirlfriend: He would adamantly insist that Fayette is NOT his girlfriend. A subversion occurs in Severn, where a pixie calls him Roper’s boyfriend, yet neither seemed to mind.
* SmallNameBigEgo: At the start of the game, Vance was just a wimp carrying a dull switchblade, but thinks he’s tough enough to face Clifton and gets his ass kicked for it. This gets subverted later, as he TookALevelInBadass and becomes one of the strongest characters in the game.

!!North
[[quoteright:100:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/charno_301.png]]
Vance's best friend, and a practitioner of the Kita martial arts. North is missing at the start of the game, and Vance’s quest to search for him leads them both to the heart of the conflict.
----
* HeroicBSOD: North experiences a massive breakdown after facing Catawba the Perserve Idealogue [[spoiler: when the latter revealed that she had been posing North’s fiancée and that their relationship was a big, fat lie]].
* TheLancer: He's Vance's best friend, and serves as the compassionate heart to Vance's ruthlessly calculating nature.
* OddFriendship: North is an IdealHero, but is best friends with the selfish and greedy Vance, and later befriends the [[LovableRogue perky thief]] Holly.
* ParentalMarriageVeto: His father refused to let him marry "a simple flower girl", causing him to run away from home (the reason he was missing at the start of the game).
* RedIsHeroic: The red-haired North is also the most heroic and passionate character in the party.
* RescueRomance: He met his fiancée, Cary, when he rescued her from a group of Dillon soldiers.
* TraumaCongaLine: North experiences a long series of misfortune between the second and third act. [[spoiler:First, he is captured by pirates, separating him from his fiancée. He manages to escape, but just as he is heading home, Duke Greene blows up the town, killing everyone, including North's fiancée. Swearing revenge, North returns to his martial arts school to train, but right after he manages to master his final techniques, Orrum shows up and kills North's mentor (whom North considers a father figure). North then returns to Somerset to hunt Orrum down and arrives just in time to witness Orrum murder his real father and get away with it.]]
* VengeanceFeelsEmpty: After having his revenge by [[spoiler:killing Duke Greene for the first time]], he stated that revenge is not as satisfying as he thought it would be, and he almost lost his will to live.

!!Fayette
[[quoteright:100:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/charfa_2660.png]]
The Duchess of Burlington, and the only daughter of Duke Salem. The BigBad is after her for some reason.
----
* BelligerentSexualTension: With Vance. She frequently derails him and beats him up for his rudeness and moral ambiguity, but also gets annoyed/jealous if he flirts with other women. She later admits that she enjoys travelling with him.
* BreakTheCutie: The poor girl has been through a lot: [[MissingMom her mother had been assassinated when she was younger]], her duchy is caught up in a war with Dillon, her ship is hijacked by pirates, she is kidnapped twice, and her father is killed not long after her rescue, forcing her to take up his place as the ruler of Burlington.
* DamselInDistress: Kidnapped by Duke Greene twice, and had to be rescued by Vance and the others both times.
* LethalChef: She learnt cooking from the Royal chefs, whose food are known to be terrible enough to give food poisoning.
* ShipperOnDeck: During the epilogue, she remarks that North and Kanna make a cute couple. Vance does not agree.
* WhiteMage: Halfway through the game, she is taught healing magic by Marion.

!!Anderson
[[quoteright:100:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/charan_171.png]]
A wandering monk who came to Vance's rescue after the latter was LeftForDead by Benson in Pittsboro. He decides to travel along with Vance to find new challenges, but is later revealed to have a much deeper involvement with the conflict than he initially lets on.
----
* AmbiguouslyHuman: Vance believes Anderson to be [[spoiler:a Kaibutsu Lord, namely Teachy the Discordian]]. The last part is eventually disproved, but his exact nature remains unclear.
* BadassInDistress: Occurs during the Kaibutsu Lords Hunt arc if the party decides to proceed in Erhardt. Anderson gets arrested for the murder of a local fortune-teller, tasking the other party members to investigate the case further to prove his innocence. Justified because he's only allowing himself to get arrested to gain information on the possible presence of a Kaibutsu Lord in the city, and if the player decides not to continue with the search, he'll break out on his own.
* TheBigGuy: He's the strongest and most physically aligned of all the main characters. He uses either an [[BrutishCharacterBrutishWeapon ax or a mace]] as his primary weapons and is the only main character with no MP.
* BloodKnight: Lockhart described him to be a mass-murdering madman in the past.
* CastFromHitPoints: Anderson has 0 MP, so his martial arts skills can only be activated by using some of his HP.
* EeriePaleSkinnedBrunette: A mysterious man with pale skin and black hair who may or may not be human. Considered "strange" by most people, he is dark, intense, and is downright terrifying when he unleashes his full power.
* FightsLikeANormal: He is powerful enough to single-handedly destroy an entire army, but apparently holds back in normal fights. See ThatManIsDead.
* LightningBruiser: Has the highest attack, defense and health point, and an above-average agility, and can randomly stun enemies with his attacks. Even better, one of his strongest weapons can actually deal damage to the entire enemy party. His only drawback is that his special skills aren't particularly useful, but he's such a capable fighter that those skills are actually not necessary.
* MysteriousPast: There are numerous hints that [[spoiler:he used to be a Kaibutsu Lord]] but the details of his BackStory are never fully revealed. In fact, what little hints we get of his past only serve to raise more questions about his nature and identity.
* MysteriousWaif: Surprisingly, he fits this role even better than Kanna, being the mysterious sojourner of unknown origins who possesses more power and knowledge than he initially lets on, and knows the mysteries of the game's universe that [[TheUnreveal he refuses to disclose]]. The BigBad considers him as the greatest threat to his plans, while the other Kaibutsu Lords spend much of their interactions with him trying to goad him into revealing his true colours in front of the others.
* NoSocialSkills: He doesn't really get along with anyone in the group, and prefers to hang out by himself.
* OlderThanTheyLook: He doesn't look much older than Vance, but he seems to be acquainted with [[spoiler:King Carolus since the first Kaibutsu War, meaning that he's at least in his 60s]]. Then, if Vance's delirious dream/vision of him [[spoiler:walking together with ''the founder of the Govan order'']] means anything, it would make him ReallySevenHundredYearsOld.
* TallDarkAndHandsome: Anderson is physically imposing (described so by several [=NPCs=]), and Tatum certainly finds him handsome.
* TheStoic: Vance describes him as being "as cold as ice".
* ThatManIsDead: When Lockhart remarks how Anderson has gone soft for not immediately killing him after the former stole an important artifact from the team, Anderson replies that the man he used to be is already dead.

!!Kanna
[[quoteright:100:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/charka_9980.png]]
An alchemist who belongs to [[TheOmniscientCouncilOfVagueness the Govan order]]. Kanna is first encountered in Branchville, where she intervened with the battle between Burlington and Dillon by blowing up the field. She later joins the party after saving Vance, Fayette and Anderson from Benson and Mauldin.
----
* AmbiguouslyHuman: She is an immortal alchemist who controls Gargoyles and is a part of an ancient order whose existence is but a myth to most people. She actually has a shrine dedicated to her in Pittsboro.
* BadassOnPaper: Kanna is a genuinely skilled alchemist, and with her Order's backing, she can create supremely powerful spells that could wipe out entire battlefields. Many people hold her powers in high regard, including [[LightningBruiser Anderson]], but without access to such spells, Kanna is actually a terrible fighter.
* {{Bookworm}}: She spends most of her free time reading, and even uses [[ThrowTheBookAtThem books as her primary weapons]].
* TheDreaded: Being a member of the legendary Govan order, [[EvilDuo Benson and Mauldin]] are terrified at the prospect of fighting her, and immediately runs off when she presents herself in her shrine. Of course, her reputation actually precedes her, as she's not actually a good fighter without her alchemical weapons (which are very hard to create).
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: Kanna is blonde, and is frequently considered very beautiful by other characters. She is gentle, polite and is one of the nicest characters in the game, despite initially coming off as suspicious and even potentially dangerous.
* MysteriousWaif: Kanna is introduced as the secretive and enigmatic, yet very powerful, sorceress whose affiliations with the Govan Order and Duke Greene casts some suspicion on what her true goals are. [[SubvertedTrope However, she turned out to be more straightforward than she initially seemed]]: she wasn't lying about her motives -- she genuinely wants to help the heroes, not realizing the darker intentions of her order when they sent her to aid Vance and the others, and her cryptic persona is caused by her lack of social skills rather than a deliberate attempt to keep secrets.
* MysticalWaif: Kanna is a [[ReallySevenHundredYearsOld centuries old]] alchemist who belongs to an ancient order called the Govan, whose knowledge about the game's universe and [[AlchemyIsMagic alchemical skills]] are considered invaluable to the party (to the point that Anderson repeatedly remarks that the journey can't be completed without her).
* NoSocialSkills: Kanna had spent decades secluding herself in the desert that she does not appear to understand how relationship works. She also tends to stay out from group discussions and keeps herself to herself.
* PerformanceAnxiety: Kanna apparently has stage fright, and actually fainted when Anderson forced her to take part in the beauty pageant.
* TheQuietOne: Kanna rarely speaks unless she’s first talked to.
* ReallySevenHundredYearsOld: She looks about 20, but is at least 100 years old.
* TheSmartGirl: Having been alive since the first Kaibutsu wars, she is one of the more knowledgeable members of the party, and is quite familiar with some of the Kaibutsu lords.
* SquishyWizard: Even though her alchemical weapons can deal devastating damages to the enemies, her health points and defense stats are some of the lowest among the team.
* SupremeChef: She was able to use Fayette's terrible dish and change them into something good.

!!Clifton
[[quoteright:100:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/charcl_3990.png]]
A senior bounty hunter whom Vance encountered in Branchville, Clifton is a ruthless fighter who would not hesitate to kill those stands in his way.
----
* BerserkButton: He gets easily riled up whenever his niece is involved in any kind of perceived danger. Once, he threatened to attack Anderson when the latter insulted Holly, despite usually being respectful to him.
* BountyHunter: Clifton is another one of Lauren’s bounty hunters, so he's technically Vance's senior. He was also tasked to help Vance out in one of his first missions.
* EmbarrassingNickname: Zigzagged. Holly calls him Uncle Cliffy, and he doesn't mind if she does uses that nickname in private. He doesn't appreciate her call him that in public, however, and wouldn't let anyone else do the same.
* HateAtFirstSight: Vance picked a fight with him in their first encounter, and they have been at odds with each other ever since.
* ImpliedLoveInterest: With Lauren. He can never go against her whims, and he considers her as someone important, as her death is what provoked him on a revenge quest against Greene. The exact nature of their relationship was never revealed, however.
* {{Jerkass}}: Clifton’s attitude is even more crass than Vance’s, but unlike the latter, he has shown very little, if any, PetTheDog moments.
* MutuallyExclusivePartyMembers: He will not travel with Roper because he finds her overzealous dedication for Duke Greene annoying.
* OddFriendship: Calling them "friends" might be overstating it, but Clifton is surprisingly quite civil to Anderson, at least compared to his usual behaviour.
* UnscrupulousHero: He’s one of the more ruthless characters in the party. If the party confronts Benson and Mauldin in Duke Greene’s villa, Clifton would slay them after Vance and the others decided to leave them be.

!!Holly
[[quoteright:100:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/charho_5434.png]]
Holly is the self-proclaimed “world famous thief” whom North befriends when they are both taken captive by Raleigh. She is later revealed to be Clifton’s niece and resides in Burlington.
----
* DatingCatwoman: Subverted. She briefly flirted with [[spoiler:Manteo]] while the group was visiting Thershale, but dropped the idea almost immediately after, when he deliberately repulsed her.
* LovableRogue: Holly is a thief – or, to put it bluntly, a criminal -– but she is amiable enough that she could befriend the morally-upright North.
* MasterOfNone: She has one of the poorest stats in among the playable characters, and all her skills are useless.
* PluckyComicRelief: Holly doesn't really have any personal reason to join Vance and the others, except maybe to bank in the cash that can be obtained from the journey. Her high spirited personality, and her rather hilarious interactions with her "Uncle Cliffy", keeps the mood from being too dour, though.

!!Tatum
[[quoteright:100:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/charta_5953.png]]
Tatum, A.K.A the Bandit Queen, is the leader of a criminal group who hides out in Kershaw. She accompanies Kanna to Kershaw Lighthouse to help the latter revive Vance. She has a crush on Anderson.
----
* ActionGirl: She is quite a capable fighter, which is presumably why her bandit underlings respects her so much.
* AFatherToHisMen: She is very close to her subordinates and vows {{Revenge}} on Benson and Mauldin – and, by extension, Duke Greene – when they are killed.
* TheLadette: Being a Bandit Queen, Tatum can be quite abrasive, and she’s the only female PC who swears regularly.
* OptionalPartyMember: She will not join the party if Vance opted to have her arrested while the group is in Durham Valley.
* SheCleansUpNicely: Not apparent in her faceset (which does not change from her usual appearance), but when she dolled up herself to participate in the Beauty Pageant, she looked so stunning that even [[spoiler:Manteo]] was speechless at the sight of her.

!!Roper
[[quoteright:100:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/charro_2884.png]]
The captain of the Dillon army who can be recruited if Vance decided to take the Severn path to Dillon.
----
* ActionGirl: She is one of the strongest warriors in the Dillon army, second to [[TheDragon General Orrum]] in terms of strength.
* AntiVillain: If Vance, Kanna and Anderson don't take the Severn path to Dillon, Roper would remain loyal to Duke Greene and will hinder the heroes' path when they try to pursue Orrum by setting traps along their path. However, even as she antagonizes Vance and the others, it's clear that she's not actually evil, but merely loyal and dedicated to Greene's ideals.
* HighHeelFaceTurn: She is one of the very few female officers of the Dillon Army, and is the first to defect.
* MutuallyExclusivePartyMembers: She refuses to travel with Clifton, after the latter took it upon himself to execute Duke Greene, her former best friend.
* NiceGirl: Despite being quite stubborn when it comes to her duties, Roper is considered one of the kindest characters in the game, and was willing to forgive Greene despite the atrocities he’s committed.
* OptionalPartyMember: She can only be recruited if Vance decided to take the ferry route to Dillon.
* PlatonicLifePartners: Was once very good friends with Duke Green, which is why she couldn't hate him, despite everything he's done, and genuinely believes that he can be redeemed.
* SiblingYinYang. Roper is a kindhearted, yet dedicated soldier who fought for Duke Greene’s ideals. Her older sister, Myrtle, is an irresponsible gambler who openly expresses her disdain towards the duke.
* WhyCantIHateYou: Even after Duke Greene destroyed her home town and killed her sister, she cannot hate him due to their past friendship.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Guest characters]]
!![=McDonald=]
An old merchant who once requested Vance’s service as a bounty hunter to accompany him from Branchville to Elloree.
----
* CoolOldGuy: He is actually quite brilliant in alchemy--and is able to create the Phoenix Elixir, whose recipe is apparently unknown even to The Govan (an ancient alchemist order).
* SquishyWizard: His magic skill (Static Bolt) is extremely useful in combat, being able to deal significant damage to the entire party and could inflict paralysis on them – but otherwise, he has very low HP, attack and defense.

!!Raynham
[=McDonald=]’s bodyguard, who, along with Vance, would accompany his master to bring his goods to Elloree.
----
* SatelliteCharacter: His sole purpose is accompanying [=McDonald=] and providing extra muscle in the quest. Not much is known of his character beyond this fact.

!!Gastonia
Captain of the Beaufort Army, and one of Duke Winston’s most trusted soldier.
----
* ActionGirl: She is a decent fighter, and actually claims to be the best soldier in Beaufort.
* ThoseTwoGuys: Gastonia is almost never seen without Whitaker, and the two are always bickering. They have few, if any, characterization beyond their status as Duke Winston's soldier and their constant fight.

!!Whitaker:
Whitaker is another soldier of Beaufort. He is also Gastonia’s perpetually-drunk subordinate.
----
* TheAlcoholic: Whitaker is almost never seen sober, much to Gastonia’s annoyance. He’s always either drunk, or whining for a drink.
* ThoseTwoGuys: He and Gastonia are almost never seen apart.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Villains]]
!!Duke Greene
[[quoteright:100:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chargr_9701.png]]
The duke of Dillon duchy who plans to “return to the old ways” by annihilating those he deems evil, and ultimately bring balance to the world.
----
* BackFromTheDead: He was defeated and killed by the party half way through the third act. He later returns after the Kaibutsu Lord quest by [[spoiler:[[GrandTheftMe possessing Duke Winston]]]].
* BigBad: His extremist ideals, and the mass genocide he committed to fulfill them, is the main drive of the conflict in this storyline.
* CameBackStrong: He [[spoiler:assimilated himself with the seven kaibutsu lords]] to be able to rise [[BackFromTheDead from his grave]] as the game’s FinalBoss.
* FourEyesZeroSoul: The bespectacled Duke Greene is also a ruthless psychopath who had betrayed, killed, and destroyed entire cities for the sake of his ideals.
* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: Despite his cruelty, Greene appears to genuinely care for his sister [[spoiler:Lucama]], his friend Roper and his lover [[spoiler:Castallia]], and before his final death, he expresses regret for failing them.
* FreudianExcuse: His entire family was murdered [[spoiler:by the Cult of Zebulun, and he was raised by Orrum to become the lunatic he has now become]].
* KingIncognito: He frequently meets with his subjects under the guise of “Webster”, a simple messenger.
* KnightTemplar: He genuinely believes that what he’s doing is “cleansing the world of evil”.
* PlatonicLifePartners: Genuinely feels a kinship towards Roper that he was willing to spare her after she defected to the heroes' party, even though he was willing to kill his own lover for sheltering Vance when the latter got shipwrecked in Severn.
* WhiteHairBlackHeart: Duke Greene is an irredeemable OmnicidalManiac who also happens to have premature white hair. May also double as MysticalWhiteHair due to his magical powers or PowerDyesYourHair as his hair appears brown in his childhood flashback.
* YoungAndInCharge: He is significantly younger than the other dukes, and is the strongest of them all.

!!Benson and Mauldin
[[quoteright:200:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/charbenmau_4975.png]]
A pair of bounty hunters hired by Duke Greene to capture Fayette and dispose of Vance.
----
* BrainsAndBrawn: Mauldin and Benson, respectively. The former is a cunning and pragmatic old wizard, while the latter is a broadsword wielding brute.
* DualBoss: Averted in the first two {{Hopeless Boss Fight}}s against them, where the party only needs to face Benson, and Mauldin’s interference would mark the end of the battle. Played straight in the subsequent encounters with them.
* HopelessBossFight: Occurs twice in a row, during the first journey to Durham. In the first encounter, Benson pulls a Death Technique that almost kills Vance, and in the second encounter, Mauldin uses a Sleep spell on the party before escaping. Unlike most examples, however, the story will only progress when they defeat the party with the aforementioned techniques. If they defeat you normally, it will be a game over.
* RedOniBlueOni: Benson is the more abrasive, reckless and HotBlooded of the two, while Mauldin is much more reserved, level-headed and practical.
* OnlyInItForTheMoney: They only serve Duke Greene because he had promised them the key to the Treasure of Nags as payment for their service.

!!The Seven Kaibutsu Lords
A group of demon lords who were responsible for instigating the first Kaibutsu War. Now, they have returned to bring back the chaos of the olden days.
----
!!!Tropes common to all seven.
* HumanoidAbomination: All the Kaibutsu lords assume human forms and poses as regular humans until the party inevitably faces some of them. They are still powerful monsters that feeds on chaos and destruction.
* ReallySevenHundredYearsOld: The Kaibutsu don’t appear to age, and Ramseur, in particular, looks exactly the same as he did 65 years ago. It is implied that they are centuries old.
* RedBaron: All the Kaibutsu lords are given impressive titles to follow their names: Ramseur the Stratifier, Teachy the Discordian, Orrum the Ravager, Catawba the Perverse Ideologue, Manteo the Trickster, Clio the Maledictor and Elko the Perjurer.
* SkippableBoss: The Kaibutsu Lords Hunt arc does not actually require the party to kill all 7 of the Lords, and the story would move on to a different goal after defeating four (or after encountering Teachy). Depending on which of the 4 Lords the player chooses to fight, the remaining Bosses would become "skippable".

!!!Ramseur
[[quoteright:100:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/charram_4451.png]]
The leader of the Kaibutsu, Ramseur is the strongest and most cunning of the seven.
----
* BlackCloak: He wears a billowing, black robe and hood that marks him as an ObviouslyEvil character.
* GlowingEyesOfDoom: He's the leader of the Kaibutsus and sports a pair of glowing [[SupernaturalGoldEyes gold eyes]].
* LukeIAmYourFather: Heavily implied to be [[spoiler:Carolus and Olanta’s]] father.
* ManipulativeBastard: He and [[spoiler:Marion]] had manipulated the outcome of the first Kaibutsu War. Specifically,[[spoiler: he was the one who created the Kibou sword which Carolus would use to win the war]], leading to Carolus’ ascension to the throne, thus allowing Ramseur [[spoiler:and Marion]] to take control of Durham Valley.
* UnderestimatingBadassery: He does not consider the heroes as a threat, especially since Haselle is aiding him, and did not fight them seriously. This bites him back in the ass when [[spoiler:Vance (who, until then, has been knocked out) kills her while he was still fighting the others, and that distraction led to his demise]].

!!!Teachy
[[quoteright:100:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chartea_3741.png]]
The second strongest of the Kaibutsu Lords, who seems to have a very different agenda from the others.
----
* ChekhovsGunman: Both Teachy’s human and demon form can be encountered long before the Kaibutu Lords were even introduced. His human form is [[spoiler: Alex, the wannabe hero who frequently lingers near Branchville’s pub]], while his demon form is [[spoiler:the strife dragon Vance and North encountered in the Sardinia sidequest in Halifax]].
* EnigmaticMinion: His goals frequently clash with the rest of his group’s ideals, and he had occasionally assisted the heroes, but he makes it clear that he’s not on their side either. When the party finally meets him, he went out of his way to reveal Ramseur’s [[spoiler:and Marion’s]] plans to them, before trying to kill them right afterwards.
* {{Cult}}: Teachy runs an anarchist cult named the cult of Zebulun.
* OneWingedAngel: He transforms into a great dragon when the party faces him.

!!!Orrum
[[quoteright:100:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/charor_7603.png]]
The third Kaibutsu lord who serves as a general in the Dillon army.
----

* TheDragon: He’s [[BigBad Duke Greene]]’s right hand man.
* ToxicFriendInfluence: [[spoiler:He rescued a young Greene from several Zebulun cult members]], and influenced him to become the madman he is known as in the game.

!!!Catawba
[[quoteright:100:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/charcat_310.png]]
The fourth Kaibutsu lord. In her human form, she poses as the high priestess of Thershale.
----
* BitchInSheepsClothing: She appears gentle and kind as she assumes her role as the high priestess of Thershale, but being one of the Kaibutsu lords, she is just as evil and dangerous as the rest of her group.
* FaceOfAnAngelMindOfADemon: Catawba is almost angelic-looking, having a pair of tender blue eyes and a sweet smile. Of course, being a Kaibutsu lord, she is actually cruel and manipulative.
* MasterOfIllusion: She is capable of fabricating images and, before her defeat, would reveal that [[spoiler:North’s RescueRomance encounter with Cary was actually an illusion she created. The real Cary died before North arrived, and Catawba assumed her form and pretended to be North’s fiancée to mess with him]].
* VillainWithGoodPublicity: Being a high priestess, flocks of people would come to her to seek her advice during the troubled times, despite the fact that she is largely responsible for the conflict.

!!!Manteo
[[quoteright:100:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/charman_7686.png]]
The fifth Kaibutsu lord, who frequently shows up before the heroes to mess with them.
----
* TheGadfly: Manteo would go out of his way to annoy the party and would randomly show up to either taunt them or give them cryptic revelations regarding Duke Greene, the Govan or even the Kaibutsu Lords themselves. He finds amusement in watching the heroes debating among themselves about whether or not to follow his "advices".
* ItAmusedMe: Almost all his actions is motivated by amusement. [[spoiler:In the Beauty Pageant sidequest, he shows up as an MC so that he can have fun snarking at the contestants, annoying the event organizers]] and generally screwing with the heroes further.
* KillerRabbit: His true form is that of a giant rabbit. Of course, being a Kaibutsu Lord, he’s still a pain to fight against.
* VillainsNeverLie: He never tells a lie, but reveals half-truths or misleading truths to drive the events into the most amusing outcome.
* VillainousCrush: Had repeatedly expresses his interest towards [[spoiler:Holly]], although this may or may not be a part of his mind games to irritate her.

!!!Clio
[[quoteright:100:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chariva_4025.png]]
The sixth Kaibutsu lord who had helped Duke Greene in developing his alchemical super weapon.
----
* ChekhovsGunman: She can be encountered early in the game, under the identity of Iva of the Govan.
* FaceOfAnAngelMindOfADemon: Like Catawba, she has a demure appearance which belies her malicious nature.
* MysticalWhiteHair[=/=]WhiteHairBlackHeart: She is a Kaibutsu lord with immense [[AlchemyIsMagic alchemical]] prowess, and has white hair.

!!!Elko
[[quoteright:100:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/charelk_2690.png]]
The seventh Kaibutsu lord.

* ChekhovsGunman: He shows up earlier in the game, as a random NPC child in Dillon who attempted to swindle Vance by selling him false information.
* EnfantTerrible: His humanoid form is that of a child’s. He used this form to commit murder and [[spoiler:framed Anderson for the act]].

[[folder:Others]]
!!Lucama
[[quoteright:100:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/charlu_1467.png]]
A young ghost girl who resides in Fairmont Lighthouse. She is a member of the Govan who has been tasked by her seniors to aid Vance - a duty she very much despise.
----
* CuteGhostGirl: Vance remarked that she's quite cute when he first met her.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: Her entire family was massacred before her eyes and she, too, died during the whole ordeal.
* FaceHeelTurn: After being disillusioned by the Govan's purpose, she turned to [[spoiler:help Duke Greene return from the dead by absorbing the powers of the Seven Kaibutsu Lords and taking control of Duke Winston's body]].
* LongLostRelative: She is [[spoiler:Duke Greene]]'s sister.

!!Duke Salem
[[quoteright:100:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/charsal_9585.png]]
The oldest of the three dukes, Salem is the ruler of Burlington duchy, and is Fayette’s father. He is also quite well-known for his liberal views, which clashes against Duke Greene’s conservative ideals.
----
* DroppedABridgeOnHim: He and several of his men are abruptly killed by Ramseur when they [[spoiler:arrived at the cult of Zebulun, intending to arrest Anderson and the rest of the cultists for their ties with Teachy the Discordian]].
* RamblingOldmanMonologue: Not shown on screen, but Winston did mention that Salem tend to be long-winded in his speech, which is why his individual conference with the King took the longest.

!!Duke Winston
[[quoteright:100:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/charwin_8957.png]]
The ruler of the Beaufort duchy who tends to take the middle ground in the conflict between Duke Salem and Duke Greene.
----
* BigGood: He's the one who commissioned the party to their main quest.
* GrandTheftMe: [[spoiler:Duke Greene came BackFromTheDead]] by taking control of his body.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: King Carolus trusts him more than the other Dukes, and he has the closest ties to the party as a whole, providing them with immense help.

!!King Carolus
[[quoteright:100:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/charcar_1173.png]]
The current king of Durham Valley, and the hero who ended the first Kaibutsu War 65 years ago.
----
* CainAndAbel: His sister, Olanta, was the one who controlled the Kaibutsu in the first war, forcing him to kill her to end the conflict.
* MeaningfulName: His name is the Latin form of Charlemagne, the first Holy Roman Emperor and the unifier of Western Europe. In this universe, Carolus is the first king of Durham, and was the one who united humanity in their war against the Kaibutsu.
* ShootTheDog: He ordered [[spoiler:Anderson to MercyKill him]] when he realized that he no longer has the power or influence to protect the people.
* UnwittingPawn: The events that [[spoiler:led to his ascension as king was orchestrated by his mother, Marion, who intends to use him as a puppet king to control Durham]]. His realization of this fact is what drove him to make the ShootTheDog decision above.

!!Marion
[[quoteright:100:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/charmar_8958.png]]
A 500-year old hermit whom Vance and Fayette encountered in a secluded island after they escaped from pirates. She is the one who taught Fayette her healing magic.
----
* BitchInSheepsClothing: Marion was extremely helpful towards Vance and Fayette when they needed a transportation to reach Duke Winston. All of this is a ploy [[spoiler:to groom Fayette to be Carolus’ successor, so that she use Fayette as her next puppet queen]].
* GreaterScopeVillain: She's the mastermind behind pretty much all the conflict that happened in the game, but her presence in the game is fairly minimal, and [[TheUnfought the player never actually fights her.]]
* ReallySevenHundredYearsOld: She looks like a woman in her late 20s, but is actually over 500 years old.
* UnholyMatrimony: [[spoiler:With Ramseur]]. It is heavily implied that she gave birth to [[spoiler:Carolus and Olanta]] through him.
