BEWARE: UNMARKED spoilers ahead.

[[foldercontrol]]

[[folder: The Mane Six]]
!!Tropes applying to all of them:
* CoolAirship: They are each traveling in airships customized to their particular styles. Rainbow Dash's, for instance, uses Cloudsdale furniture to be as light, and thus as fast, as possible, and Rarity's is equipped with a spa, garden, boutique and other facilities.
* ColorCodedForYourConvenience: From their airships to their elements and magic.
* HotGoddess: While this is acknowledged In-Universe by Mach One, Rarity [[note]] who manages to make several colts swoon by doing a HairFlip in Chapter 51, and way earlier than that, gets a spotlight wearing a [[SexyBacklessOutfit long, backless gown]] during the departure ceremony, [[HeadTurningBeauty to the appreciation of the male audience]]. [[/note]] and Fluttershy [[note]] It's noted that she was a former supermodel, and has a ''lingerie shot'' to boot. Her looks and [[ShrinkingViolet demeanor]] [[DudeMagnet gets stallions and colts]] [[LoveAtFirstSight smitten with her at first sight]], and when she reveals where she was going (a Colt Scout Jamboree), all present get a MassOhCrap moment when they realize that she will be in the middle of ''many'' males, equating it to throwing Mentos candy into a soda bottle. See her entry for further details [[/note]] really stand out.
* NotSoAboveItAll: Despite being Princesses, all six of them still keep their mannerisms and quirks; Twilight and Fluttershy still keep having NoSocialSkills, Applejack and Rainbow their [[WhatsUpKingDude down-to-earth, simple demeanor]], Rarity her DramaQueen tendencies (and elite, refined tastes) while Pinkie...is still...Pinkie.
* PrettyPrincessPowerhouse: Becoming alicorn princesses skyrocketed their existing power and gave them more ways to use it too. They also have reason to dress up more often.
* PraetorianGuard: Each of them has an assembly of guards traveling with them, all of whom are chosen based on the Princesses' natures.
* RoyalsWhoActuallyDoSomething: All of them bear the title of princess and any problems they run into they ''will'' solve.
* WingedUnicorn: '''All''' of them are now alicorns. Those who lacked wings, those who lacked horns, and those who lacked both now have them both.

!!Twilight Sparkle
The Alicorn of Magic.
* ArbitrarySkepticism: Played with: while Twilight initially insists that all the ghost stories about Hollow Shades are bunk (despite Spike reminding her about Nightmare Moon), she concedes when Flash points out how the room they're staying in [[CrazyPrepared has been 100% monster proofed]]. Crops back up in chapter 58 regarding Spike's close encounter with a vampire melon.
** Though it's not so much that she doubts that the vampire melon ''exists'' as that she just doesn't think it's at all dangerous to ponies (and a dragon).
* CoolAirship: The ''Guiding Star'' doubles as a moving library and laboratory.
* DeadpanSnarker: One chapter has flashbacks of Twilight responding with blistering sarcasm to events that she hasn't in canon. Celestia believes that she has simply built up a reserve from having held her tongue for so long.
* ForWantOfANail: Her RageAgainstTheMentor in ''FanFic/PartingWords'' led to the changes in canon that enabled all of the Mane Six to ascend, and consequently the whole story from there on out.
* FreudianExcuse: Twilight was badly bullied in magic kindergarten which is implied to be the cause of or at least feeds into her more negative traits, such as her Super OCD tendencies.
* IKnewIt: InUniverse, she gloats about this when she finds out the truth behind Pinkie's powers.
* LetNoCrisisGoToWaste: When the Crusaders get into trouble because of fighting at the Junior Gala, Twilight uses it as a reason to bring them along on the search so they won't be separated from their sisters.
* ObstructiveBureaucrat: Her insistence upon having everything be done with checklists in triplicate with no room for adaptation and improvisation has made her this for her guard. If Flash Sentry didn't skimp out on his paperwork like he did, he wouldn't be able to get ''anything'' done. Spike finally suggested adding an assistant position to relieve him of some of the paperwork duties.
* PraetorianGuard: Has the ''Twilight Guard''.
* ShipTease: With Flash Sentry, such as blushing when Fluttershy asked if he's cute and experiencing irresistible urges to smile around him.
* TakingAThirdOption: While she's all aboard The Plan, she's shown an interest in alternative methods of longevity.

!!Applejack
The Alicorn of Honesty.
* BlessedWithSuck: She can't rest easy until hearing ''both'' sides of a story (like she did with the bullies) and uncovering the truth, a side effect of being a LivingLieDetector.
* CoolAirship: The ''Blossom''. (She originally wanted to name it after her grandmother, but the real Granny Smith objected, saying "Ah'm too old and had too many young'uns to be the name of no ''maiden ship''." )
* MistakenForRacist: She occasionally sticks her hoof in her mouth when it comes to non-pony races, such as scolding Applebloom for calling a female Diamond Dog a "bitch" when that is literally accurate. It leads to said Diamond Dog getting offended ''at Applejack'' for cultural misappropriation.
* PersonalityPowers: Basically, she is a LivingLieDetector that is able to feel if ponies are not telling the truth. She can also determine the ''foundation'' of why someone believes what they say to be true, so she knows if someone is being honest because they '' honestly'' believe what they say, even if what they believe is not accurate.
* PraetorianGuard: Has the ''Roughnecks'', and they are a RagtagBunchOfMisfits.
* SiblingTeam: With Apple Bloom and (cousin) Babs Seed.
* WhatsUpKingDude: Not to the degree that Rainbow Dash reaches but as her interactions with her guards show, she is not one for rigid formality. [[DownplayedTrope However]], the short time she spent in Manehattan and the lessons on manners she picked up while there allow her to fake having been born to a house of high breeding competently enough that her own Guard Captain thought she was born high class.

!!Rainbow Dash
The Alicorn of Loyalty.
* BerserkButton:
** Don't tell Dash that she hasn't earned her place. She has worked incredibly hard throughout her life to get where she is and ''will'' remind you about it if you say otherwise.
** '''Don't''' say she needs to be taken down a peg. It reminds her of Mare Do Well and got Spitfire ''attacked'' when she said it.
* BlessedWithSuck: {{Downplayed}}. The increased strength and speed from her ascension has put her so far above the Wonderbolts that she can never fly with them, because it would be dangerous to them.
* CoolAirship: The ''Thunderstreak'' is customized with Cloudsdale furniture to be as light as possible and thus as fast as possible.
* HotGoddess: [[ShipTease Mach]] thinks so of her, and ''he'' gets nervous when she clumsily attempts flirting with him. That is, before she finds out that Mach is underage.....
* LightningBruiser: Technically all alicorns are this, with better-than-pegasus reflexes and greater-than-earth-pony strength, but it's most notable with Rainbow because of her focus on athletics.
* MissingMom: In the original version, it all but says her mother is dead in one chapter. Averted with later edits, as the train scene in chapter 5 now has her arriving with her husband and Scootaloo.
* PersonalityPowers:
** Able to feel the loyalty of ponies to herself. She will get a ''bad'' horn-ache if somepony is not loyal to her.
** She can also feel ponies' loyalty, or lack of it, to each other; the latter actively makes her nauseous.
* PraetorianGuard: Has the ''Storm Guard'', mostly composed of Wonderbolts.
* ScrewTheRulesIHaveConnections: [[SubvertedTrope Subverted]]. The Wonderbolts resent her at first because they think she just used her royal status to become their leader and fly with them. This is very much '''not''' the case and Dash is all too ready to chew them out for thinking so.
* ScrewTheRulesIMakeThem: [[SubvertedTrope Subverted]] once again. She uses her royal authority to revoke several laws in Windy City that Mayor Fussbudget passed but those laws were directly forbidden by earlier ones.
* SiblingTeam: With "honorary sister", Scootaloo.
* TomboyWithAGirlyStreak: Subverted; every time she tries to do something "girly" it ends up going wrong. Wearing a dress that [[OfCorsetHurts requires a girdle]]? She gets uncomfortable enough to advise Scootaloo to never be tricked into wearing one. Flirting? She doesn't have a sultry voice, falls off a table trying to do a seductive leaning pose, and doesn't realize '''her target is underage'''.
* TragicDream: Worked her entire life to become a Wonderbolt but her ascension made it so that she was too good of a flier to join them.
* UnderestimatingBadassery: When Gold Star wonders why the Crownbreakers have started acting up, Dash suspects a political version of this trope is in play: she doesn't have an elder alicorn watching her back like Twilight and Pinkie, Rarity's class and social connections, Applejack's blue-collar JustForFun/OneOfUs appeal, or Fluttershy's fame and looks. Add to that the stigma of the JerkJock stereotype, and she looks like an easy target for a smear campaign, right? By the end of the Windy City arc, she's helped thwart a terrorist attack, begun overturning [[CorruptPolitician Mayor Fussbudget's]] inane laws, lit a fire under the Alicorn Academy's collective ass to begin reforming it's equally inane policies, and quickly becomes Windy City's favorite new alicorn.
* WarriorPrincess: While all the Element Barriers have combat experience, Rainbow Dash is the only one singled out as being a warrior. As Gold Star put it, "you personally have mixed it up with a lot of monsters and villains over the years, if my sources are correct, so that would give you something of a reputation". The fact that she was a Pegasus, whose tribe historically had these in the pre-Equestrian era, furthers this perception.
* WhatsUpKingDude: Becoming a princess has done nothing to temper Dash's behavior from canon. She has to be reminded in one chapter that her casual demeanor is unwise among other royals.

!!Rarity
The Alicorn of Generosity.
* AmazonBrigade: Her guard entourage is almost entirely made of mares. They double as models too, making them effectively [[LadyOfWar Ladies of War]].
* AuntiePennybags: When Rarity finds out that a young filly has come down sick and can't be cured, she brings her to the ship and sets her up in Rarity's own bed; then she makes use of every connection she has to try and find a cure. To top it off, she personally finances a new road in Neigh Orleans to the swamp as a supply road for soldiers dealing with dark creatures living in it with the intention of having it rededicated to civilian usage once that's done.
* BenevolentBoss: All of the Mane Six count but Rarity goes a step further in offering spa service to all of her workers. As she says "you treat your staff well they treat you well."
* CoolAirship: The ''Fabulosity'' has ''many'' facilities such as a spa, garden and designer clothier.
* ForgotICouldFly: Happens to Rarity twice when she's dragged by her locator spell across Neigh Orleans: once when she's first dragged off the ship (thankfully, her flailing her wings helped soften the landing), and later when she's about to crash into some road work (she ''does'' remember this time, unfortunately her earlier flailing has gotten her wings tangled in her dress-''fortunately'' her guards are on hand to giver her a lift).
* HiddenDepths: Is implied to be incredibly finance savvy as once she discovers a thought-to-be extinct plant that has a ''lot'' of uses, she immediately starts setting up laws that deal with its cultivation and distribution which will help reimburse the crown for an urban project in Neigh Orleans that she set up to deal with the unsettling creatures living in the swamp. Then there's how she paid for the ''Fabulosity''...
* HotGoddess: She was already the dazzling, regal Rarity we know in canon before ascension, and becomes this post-ascension. Several chapters have colts/stallions swooning at or outright ''wolf-whistling'' her.
* LetNoCrisisGoToWaste: Uses the presence of kappas and hinkypunks in the Neigh Orleans bayou as an excuse to fund the building of a road/bridge that will both help the royal guard clear said monsters out, and (not so) coincidentally give the bayou residents some much needed infrastructure.
* LiteralAssKicking: Delivers a two-hoofed "swift kick in the pants" to Blueblood after she determined that was what he needed the most, via PersonalityPowers (as for what happens, he gets BlownAcrossTheRoom, or, in Rarity's words, "launched his gaudy white plot down the hall"). She tells him afterward it was because of the alcohol.
* NiceToTheWaiter: Rarity believes in gaining and keeping loyalty of her staff by taking good care of them, going as far as allowing them to have full access to spa services and ensuring they are well kitted out for their duties incognito or openly.
* ParentalSubstitute: Is noted to be becoming this to Mudpuppy, fussing over the little Alicorn like they were flesh and blood.
* PersonalityPowers: The Element of Generosity is now able to determine what someone needs at the exact moment. Her locator spell is also amped up to literally taking her where she can find something she needs.
* PraetorianGuard: Has the ''Radiant Guard'', made up of "Black Flag Specialist" plainclothes security transferred from Celestia's Day Guard.
* SexyBacklessOutfit: Wears a backless dress during the Mane Six's departure ceremony.
* SiblingTeam: With Sweetie Belle.

!Fluttershy
The Alicorn of Kindness.
* CluelessChickMagnet: Gender-flipped. She seems ''completely'' oblivious to how her looks affect the opposite gender.
* CoolAirship: The ''Nature's Child'', which somewhat resembles a flying forest.
* DeathGlare: Her "stare" is ''supercharged'' by her ascension; Discord ends up getting his eyes exploded when he gets on the wrong end of it.
* DudeMagnet: Her beauty is said to entrance not only stallions but also ''colts'', to the point that almost everyone she meets gets smitten at first sight.
* HotGoddess: While all the Alicorn Princesses are beautiful, Fluttershy's ascension amplified this part of her sky high.
** It got to the point that when a newly-inducted Forest Guard officer gets teased about his new butterfly logo on his uniform, he only needs a photo of Fluttershy and a fashion magazine (in which Fluttershy has a '''lingerie shot''') to be envied by ''every guard'' in the bar.
--> I hate you, and everything you stand for, and I want to be you more than anything.
** One of the criteria for her PraetorianGuard basically exploits this trope; Aside from being good with animals and (mostly) quiet, they have to get soppy looks on their faces whenever she walks past them.
* LoveAtFirstSight: Inflicts this on colts and stallions because of her tremendous beauty and demure demeanor.
* NotSoAboveItAll:
** Has just a ''little'' bit of fun using her supercharged "Stare" on Discord when he decides to act up.
** Also, when the rest of the Mane Six are teasing Twilight for her attraction to Flash Sentry, Fluttershy is the one to ask if he's cute.
* OldShame: [[InUniverse The assertiveness seminar is this to her.]] She is deeply ashamed of how she acted as a result of it and the reason she criticizes Bishi for getting into a fight is because it reminds her of that incident.
* OutOfFocus: Up to chapter 60, she has just one chapter that solely covers what she has been up to.
* PraetorianGuard: Has the ''Forest Guard'', whose members were chosen for being good with animals and their potential for bodyguard crush. They include Orange Roughy and [[LargeHam Captain Snowflake]].
* SiblingTeam: With her brother Breezy Shy (a.k.a. Bishi).
* SoBeautifulItsACurse: Not herself, but the other Princesses have this opinion about her; Fluttershy is now so beautiful that everypony of the opposite gender, ''regardless of age'' gets self control issues, which might be troubling when affecting a large number at once.

!Pinkie Pie
The Alicorn of Laughter.
* AlienGeometries: Her party pony powers are explained as being the result of a rare form of Earth magic that allows her to perceive and act in more dimensions than the average pony. This includes being able to look forward in time, fold space, and manipulate probability.
* BerserkButton: Do '''not''' break the Laws of Parties. If she ever finds out about it, there ''will'' be retribution.
* CoolAirship: The ''Surprise'' has a full compliment of party cannons!
* DarkAndTroubledPast: Her RealityWarper powers caused her family to send her to Ponyville to prevent anyone from thinking that she was one of the "Ill-Starred". She thought they sent her away because they were afraid of her rather than ''for'' her.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: It's '''''Pinkie Pie''''' all right. It would be weird for her ''not'' to be strange.
* IThoughtEveryoneCouldDoThat: Apparently, it wasn't until Luna explained it to her that she fully grasped that other ponies ''can't'' perceive the AlienGeometries her Bender abilities allow her to access.
* PraetorianGuard: Has the ''Bouncer Brigade'', a group of broad and muscular stalions who used to work as literal bouncers for clubs and parties.
* RealityWarper: Pinkie's inexplicable abilities are explained as being a rare Earth Pony talent called "Bending" or "warping". It allows those who possess it to perceive AlienGeometries that they can use to influence different aspects of reality such as time, space, and even luck.
** Taken to its logical extreme in Ch. 54: When Fussbudget tries to [[ScrewThisImOuttaHere get out of his]] [[LaserGuidedKarma well deserved punishment]], he finds that all the exits lead back to his office... including one instance of him popping out of his desk drawer.
* SpannerInTheWorks: The second she sees Twilight's flight itinerary, she starts making changes so she can go to all the big party events. This starts the rest of the Mane Six to make their own changes and results in the whole expedition becoming a search/vacation combo.
* ThisIsUnforgivable: Her reaction upon discovering Mach's Uncle, Fussbudget, had given Mach a fake cake for his birthday ten years previously. [[spoiler:She somehow traveled to Windy City and back in a single night, made a perfect duplicate of the papier-mâché cake and forced him to eat it. All of it.]]
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Alicorns]]
!Celestia
Alicorn of the Sun and Day.
* AesopAmnesia: [[SubvertedTrope Subverted]]. Twilight's RageAgainstTheMentor in the prequel has caused Celestia to rethink her methods but a few other ponies think that she hasn't completely abandoned her {{Chessmaster}} tendencies, owing to their own experiences.
* BerserkButton: Racial purity. As she describes it, it's nonsense for ponies to despise those of mixed heritage, when she herself is of mixed heritage too. When she encounters the supremacist Sheriff Brass, she wastes very little time in arresting him.
* ErmineCapeEffect: Discovered early on in her reign that if she didn't live in what her subjects regarded as suitable levels of royal luxury, they would spend ruinous amounts of their own money to provide her with said luxury. These days, she and Luna simply give their staff large amounts of money and let them provide whatever royal luxuries they feel are necessary.
* TheHighQueen: Cares for all of her subjects as if each were her own child and is always ready with a comforting touch or word when they are in distress.
* LikeADaughterToMe: Celestia and Twilight have a conversation where she basically admits as such. While all of her subjects are precious to her, Twilight was especially so given their mentor-student relationship. Hence her great and tearful relief when Twilight became as immortal as she is.
* LivingForeverIsAwesome: As far as she and Luna are concerned. It's so awesome that they want to bestow immortality on ''all'' of the ponies in Equestria.
* TheMatchmaker: Happening concurrently with the Great Alicorn Hunt is the great-special-somepony-for-my-fellow-princesses-hunt. As of chapter 12, she has positioned Flash Sentry as the captain of the Twilight Guard, who immediately charms Twilight herself, explicitly chose the members of the Forest Guard for compatibility with Fluttershy and their potential to have a BodyguardCrush on her, and all the members of Pinkie's Bouncer Brigade are ''coincidentally'' Luna's type.
* MyGreatestFailure: What happened with Sunset Shimmer is this to her and she admits as such when the two meet again.
* NotSoAboveItAll: In public, she acts like the regal and noble ruler of Equestria that her citizens expect, but behind closed doors she is prone to absolute silliness, a trait shared with Luna.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: When the Crusaders are concerned over being punished for the fight at the Junior Gala, Celestia makes it clear that they aren't in trouble for self-defense.
* ShipperOnDeck: She frankly admits that assigning Flash to be the captain of Twilight's guard is an attempt at "playing cupid". That, and hoping that the former can break the latter's obsessive compulsive tendencies.
* {{Troll}}: Certainly doesn't mind tormenting Luna by arranging events that are upsetting to her.
* WeAreNotGoingThroughThatAgain: When the Everfree crisis is resolved and Celestia has the box from the Tree of Harmony, she tells the Mane Six not to worry over it and instead brings in Daring Do to DungeonBypass the thing, noting that she and the rest have had enough of the SecretTestOfCharacter shenanigans.
* WhoWantsToLiveForever: [[AvertedTrope Averted]]. The only downside Celestia finds in being immortal is that everyone you care for isn't, so she is working to make everyone immortal.

!Luna
Alicorn of the Moon and Night
* ButtMonkey: It's rare that she shows up and isn't suffering in some comedic fashion.
* HasAType: The narration comments that Luna's upbringing causes her to "crave a stallion that could take a sledgehammer to the chest without flinching". Naturally she is travelling on Pinkie's ship surrounded by guards that are [[TheAhnold exactly like that.]] Given that Luna has a "no mortal ponies rule", she curses Celestia for setting it up.
* KillItWithFire: If what she did to [[MercyKill Cotton Mouth]] is any indication, she can ''incinerate ponies alive''.
* LivingForeverIsAwesome: Shares the same view as Celestia about it and is the one to convince the Mane Six why it's a good thing.
* MayflyDecemberRomance: Had one with a mortal pony named Blue Yonder. After his death, she swore to only take another immortal as her next lover.
* SophisticatedAsHell: Speaks only in the royal dialogue of a thousand years ago but she gets creative about what she says.
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: She has an irrational fear of giant snails because of a book she read when she was a filly. She had a special alarm installed in the Canterlot castle to warn of a giant snails invasion.
* YouNeedToGetLaid: The entire reason she was looking for Alicorn stallions in the first place. Not getting laid for 1500 years is a ''long'' time, as she implies during her conversation with the Mane Six.

!Sunset Shimmer
Celestia's student prior to Twilight. She fled to another world when she felt denied what was hers, but was captured when she returned to steal the Element of Magic. Considering it her fault that Sunset turned out how she did, Celestia ascends her into an Alicorn.
* AndThenWhat: Celestia asks Sunset what she would have done after she became an Alicorn if Celestia had allowed. Sunset admits she didn't have a plan but would have literally had eternity to figure it out, and Celestia denying her that opportunity is a major reason for their fallout.
* APupilOfMineUntilHeTurnedToEvil: Unlike most examples, Sunset did a FaceHeelTurn because she found out she was being used as nothing more than means to an end, rather than any malicious intent.
* ArmorPiercingResponse: This little dialogue:
--> '''Celestia''': "Is that all our time together was? A means to an end?"
--> '''Sunset''': "Wasn't it to you?"
* EasilyForgiven: Celestia justifies doing so for her as she hasn't done anything nearly as bad as what Luna and Discord caused.
** Downplayed when she went back to the human world to undo her machinations. Whilst she was able to part on good terms, it was only after a week of drama, shouting, and at least one catfight.
* HeelFaceTurn: Redeems returning to Equestria, reconciling with Celestia and becoming an Alicorn.
* JerkassHasAPoint: InUniverse. Sunset calls Celestia out on her actions from before she fled into the mirror which range from using her to ensure Nightmare Moon's defeat and bringing back Luna to denying her the opportunity to at least become an Alicorn. Celestia agrees wholeheartedly, due in no small part to Twilight calling her out in the prequel.
* TheMindIsAPlaythingOfTheBody: Theorized to be why exactly Sunset had such short-sightedness to her plans while in the Human World; due to her being an Adult Mare transfigured into a Hormone-laden Teenage Girls' body.
* TheResenter: Celestia was focused on prepping her to be the new Element of Magic regardless of what Sunset wanted. When Sunset put the clues together by checking into everything Celestia didn't want her to learn, she didn't take it very well. It doesn't help that Celestia was holding her back on purpose due to how rapidly she was advancing, a problem she didn't have with the more faithful and dutiful Twilight who never questioned Celestia's orders before she snapped.
* {{Squee}}: [[spoiler: Her reaction upon her ascension is intense glee]].

!Trixie Lulamoon, AKA "Fabulous Princess Trixie"
A unicorn traveling magician who adopts an abandoned unicorn colt during her travel to the town of Promise. She triggered her own (and said adopted colt's) ascension by accident.
* AintTooProudToBeg: When Trixie thinks that the CorruptCop who has been chasing her and Jasper has managed to fool the crown into coming after them, she pleads for mercy from Sunset. Luckily for Trixie, Sunset was ''not'' there to arrest her.
* LargeHam: Hasn't lost any of her hamminess from the canon series.
* MamaBear: Adopts Jasper, a young unicorn colt abandoned in the woods by a racist group of Earth Ponies and it quickly becomes clear that she'd do almost anything for his sake. She's also protective of foals in general, given how upset she was about Dinky being threatened by those same racist Earth Ponies.
* MasterOfIllusion: Embodies the concept of illusion as an Alicorn. Her expertise with such spells combined with an Alicorn's ability to conceal themselves from others meant that Sunset had to employ unorthodox methods to find her.
* MeaningfulRename: She decides that "Great and Powerful Trixie" doesn't work as well when "princess" is added to the mix, so she changes her stage name to "Fabulous Princess Trixie".

!Jasper Lulamoon
An orphaned unicorn colt that was abandoned to die by racist Earth ponies, he was saved by Trixie who adopted him. During one of Trixie's performances, she unwittingly ascended them both into Alicorns because of her earlier usage of the Alicorn Amulet.
* ChickMagnet: The fillies just can't get enough of him; He can't get too far in the castle before a mob of fillies start a ruckus.
** Heck, forget fillies; the court mares and maidens find him adorable, and he gets a kiss on the cheek from Fleur De Lis, a supermodel.
* HappilyAdopted: By Trixie; "best day of my life", as he puts it.
* IKnowMortalKombat: He already has the aloof-royal-dignity thing down because he's played the part of a prince in several skits he's performed with Trixie.
* PlayingWithFire: As an Alicorn, his focus is fire and flames.
* ShipTease: Perks up when he hears that Dinky will be attending the royal school with him.

!Mudpuppy, AKA Princess Necturus of Neigh Orleans
An Alicorn foal from the Neigh Orleans Bayou who grew up believing that she was a cripple.
* BadassAdorable: She's a plucky filly full of "knock knee charm" who will not hesitate to face off against a zombie horde, a lich, and his geased slave.
* BodyHorror: Grew up believing that her horn and wings were the result of exposure to a teratogen that killed most of her age-mates ''in utero''. In actuality, she'd ascended in the womb, which cleansed the poison from her system and left her a perfectly healthy Alicorn filly.
* CrazyPrepared: [[spoiler: She wore her saddlebags underneath her Princess of Mardi Gras Parade gown]] because, in her own words, "only a coo-yon would go anywhere wit'out dey saddlebags full o' usefuls,".
* DarkAndTroubledPast: She was one of two foals to not be killed by faulty medicine sold to the community by a SnakeOilSalesman, her mother suffered DeathByChildbirth, her father got killed by a cragodile while trying to search the bayou to find the stallion that sold them the poison, and she grew up mostly alone because of the other ponies avoiding her because of her survival of the poison that killed her age mates.
* FriendToAllLivingThings: Has a lot of squishy and squelchy animal friends, which poses some problems when she moves into Rarity's airship.
* {{Foil}}: To Mach One, who is introduced in the Windy City Arc. Both are [[spoiler: underage, nascent alicorns]] with a DarkAndTroubledPast that affects them, and were RaisedByGrandparents (which happens to be their grandmothers for both of them). However, Mudpuppy grew up mostly alone due to her age-mates being killed, while Mach formed friends with Nobody's Fools. Mudpuppy's dark past affected her view of ''herself'', resulting in her self-depreciating attitude. Mach's dark past affected his view of ''the world around him'', resulting in his sour, cynical attitude over just about everything, sometimes to the point that he is [[IgnorantOfTheirOwnIgnorance incorrect on why things are the way they are]].
* GreenThumb: Can flash-grow an entire crop of silphium, a plant ''specifically'' noted to be extremely difficult to grow by hoof, in minutes.
* HeadPet: One of her animal friends, a newt, rides in her mane. Since Pinky stores Gummy in her own mane, and such a picture graced the cover of at least one magazine, it was hard to argue why she couldn't do likewise.
* IThoughtEveryoneCouldDoThat: Due to her isolated upbringing and her belief that her wings and horn were the result of the flawed Vitality Elixir, when it was really her ascending in the womb to purge herself of said toxin, she assumes that her feats, like making a rare and hard-to-cultivate plant grow by using her Earth pony magic and Unicorn magic, are something that a trained unicorn could have done better.
* ParentalAbandonment: Both of her parents are dead; her mother from DeathByChildbirth and her father from getting killed by a swamp animal.
* RaisedByGrandparents: She's been raised by her grandmother since her father died.
* RealNameAsAnAlias: Her formal name as an alicorn princess is "Necturus" which is the genus for a type of salamander that is more commonly known as a "mudpuppy".
* SelfDeprecation: Owing to the unpleasant circumstances of her life, Mudpuppy doesn't have a high view of herself. She pulls off a feat that would take several ponies working together and thinks a properly trained unicorn would have done it even faster.
* UnskilledButStrong: Hasn't been formally trained in using magic but what she can pull off is outside of most ponies' capabilities power-wise.

!Mach One
A one winged Pegasus who leads the Nobody's Fools. A crisis caused by the Crownbreakers ultimately lead to his ascension into an Alicorn.

* ArtificialLimbs: [[spoiler: Mach One gains a phantom wing from his ascension to allow him to fly while he waits for his real wing to regenerate.]]
* BavarianFireDrill: He invokes this trope when [[spoiler: the Crownbreakers set cloud solvent bombs in the Thunderdrome]]. Namely, "Rule Number One in a crisis, you didn't wait for someone to 'do something,' you told them what to do." Being a leader-for-real helps sells the act.
* TheCynic: Mach is a nice guy but optimistic is ''not'' a word that can be used to describe him. His awareness of how broken things are, mixed with suffering from those flaws, has left him with a sour view towards anything other than his friends.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: His wing was malformed so it had to be cut off when he was just five, he lost his parents about a year later and was taken in by his uncle just as a publicity stunt.
* GoodIsNotSoft: He's got a good heart and likes kids well enough but you do ''not'' threaten the helpless around him; Mach doesn't hesitate in the slightest to use violence and kill people if push comes to shove.
* HandicappedBadass: Has only one wing but can outrun the flight capable city guard quite easily.
* HiddenDepths:
** Accurately highlights several problems with Equestrian society in such a way that Scootaloo is able to understand them without even raising his voice despite how close some of those problems hit.
** He also is very good at poetry, if Chapter 51 is any indication. Said poetry also causes all females present to get quite flushed.
* IgnorantOfTheirOwnIgnorance: As knowledgeable as he is from his life experiences, he's still very uninformed regarding some of the flaws of Equestrian Society, like why Unicorns build things as high as possible.
* JustTheFirstCitizen: Despite being the leader of Nobody's Fools, major decisions are still made by the group as a whole with he himself being more of a guardian or administrator than a ruler. For instance, new members to the club have to be vouched for by at least three members with his vote only counting as one, and the target for pranks is decided by a "Council of Dweebs" with him simply setting the parameters of the round.
* KnightInSourArmor: He's full of cynicism and initially objects to the Panacea Plan not because of any inherent flaw (in fact, he agrees with it) but because he knows it is going to stir up all kinds of trouble, from PoliticalOvercorrectness groups like the "Flightless Pride" crowd to the nobles and other high status types looking to maintain their privileged position. What inspires him to join is the thought of how much he good he could do as an alicorn.
* TheLeader: Of Nobody's Fools. He's basically the "cool big brother" of the group.
* NotQuiteFlight: He uses his single wing to assist in his parkour stunts. Specifically, to "lengthen his leaps, bring himself up short, change his direction in midair" which is good enough to outmaneuver Pegasus with true flight.
* RaisedByGrandparents: Was raised by his Great Granny Doppler.
* ShipTease: With Rainbow Dash. He calls her a "hottie" and gets nervous when she (clumsily) attempts flirting with him. Unfortunately for her, he's ''underage''.
* YoungerThanTheyLook: Much to the horror of Rainbow when she tried flirting with him. Later Rainbow uses this trope against Luna, causing everyone present to laugh.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Family]]
!Shining Armor
Twilight's older brother, and the first Alicorn to ascend after the Mane Six. He is Cadance's husband.
* ButtMonkey: Poor guy just can't catch a break in this story, getting ascended... But with ridiculously small wings that made his wife break down laughing upon seeing then. Even Sunset Shimmer had full grown wings when she ascended.
* CoolBigBro: It is Shining Armor, after all; he just hasn't gotten a chance to show his stuff in this story.
* EternalLove: His marriage to Cadance became this post-ascension, as MayflyDecemberRomance is no longer a problem for the two of them.

!Cadance
Twilight's former foalsitter and the Alicorn of Love. She is Shining Armor's wife.
* EternalLove: See Shining Armor's entry.
* MayflyDecemberRomance: Her marriage to Shining Armor before he ascended is this. Once he ascends, this is no longer the case.
* TearsOfJoy: Cries happily when Luna confirms that Shining Armor is immortal like she is following his ascension, knowing [[EternalLove they can ride through the ages together now]].

!Spike
A baby dragon and Twilight's assistant.
* BadassAdorable: It gets pointed out that while Spike is a baby, he is still a baby ''DRAGON'' and as such, not just NighInvulnerable but able to chew through diamond and breath fire.
* BrutalHonesty: As Twilight puts it, Spike is still young and can be rather blunt and insensitive.
* DeadpanSnarker: Just like canon, Spike has plenty of low key sarcasm and wit to pass around. [[ServileSnarker A lot of it goes toward Twilight]] but she's not the only one.
* DemotedToExtra: Really only has plot importance when Twilight is in focus.
* MythologyGag: Upon finding out that he's going to pose as Twilight's assistant in Hollow Shades, Spike snarks that at least he won't be posing as her dog. In ''WesternAnimation/EquestriaGirls'' Spike is transformed into a dog when he goes to the human world with Twilight.
* NoMoreHoldingBackSpeech: Celestia tells Spike that she knows he generally holds back to keep from hurting anyone, but that if Twilight is in danger, he should cut loose.
* OnlySaneMan: Shares this position with Flash Sentry. Spike realizes that Twilight's obsessive compulsive tendencies are disrupting the functioning of the Twilight Guard and making Flash's own job harder, but he hasn't been able to curb most of it yet.
* StatingTheSimpleSolution: He points out to Flash that it is within his right to hire an Aide-de-camp to handle the administrative duties that he's having issues with due to Twilight's eccentricities.
* SuperpowerLottery: Celestia lists off that Spike is magic resistant, NighInvulnerable, can bite through diamonds, walk in lava, and is able to breath fire.

!!Breezy Shy
Fluttershy's little brother, a shy, polite colt that always strives to comport himself like a gentlecolt, and has no qualms about having to fight when he needs to.
* BadassAdorable: Cute enough to cause ''four'' girls to crush on him at once, and an accomplished martial artist able to take on three colts twice his size and beats the snot out of their leader.
* CluelessChickMagnet: Simply far too shy to notice the CMC and Babs crushing on him.
* InSeriesNickname: Tends to be referred to almost exclusively as "Bishi".
* MartialPacifist: In contrast to his sister, he has his own way of dealing with bullies. First, he tells them to stop their rude and hurtful behavior. If they continue, then he warns them that he will stop them if they continue. Then he puts on his training gloves and punches them in the jaw.
* PrettyBoy: He's described as having the same sort of beauty as Fluttershy, all longhaired and dainty.
* TranquilFury: When the bullies from Babs' school threaten to make her and the Crusaders do the "Diaper Dance," he stands up to them and delivers an epic beatdown, ''without'' raising his voice or breaking his shy demeanor.
* UnderestimatingBadassery: The Manehattan bullies didn't think this delicate and meek looking colt could hurt a fly. They immediately learned better.

!Apple Bloom
Applejack's little sister, and later fellow Alicorn.
* BadassAdorable: A sweet little filly that goes up against a (lesser!) [[RealityWarper draconequus]] with nothing but a quickly improvised weapon pack.
* ButtMonkey: The poor little filly is the Crusader most prone to humiliation. Especially during the Coronation Gala and the Cherry Jubilee, where she embarrasses herself in front of a high-class colt, Fancy Toff.
* DidYouJustPunchOutCthulhu: Managed to knock and re-imprison Malfunziona, a being of the same species (but lesser than) as [[RealityWarper Discord]], resulting in her ascending.
* GadgeteerGenius: A very skilled inventor who manages to create a LogicBomb machine that traps Malfunziona again.
* PersonOfMassDestruction: Has this reputation due to her CMC activities (and somewhat enjoys it) but subverted in actuality as most of the disasters she and her friends were blamed for weren't their fault (the rare times it were, they were the only victims) and their reputation is a result of GossipEvolution.
* ScienceRelatedMemeticDisorder: When she gets an idea for an invention, her eyes unfocus and she starts working on it like it's an involuntary movement. She created her BeeBeeGun in a rush of adrenaline and mania, doesn't fully remember creating Malfunziona's replacement cage because she was ''that'' focused, and when pondering a machine that could duplicate the muteness cure Sweetie Bell created, she trails off and grabs a pencil and notepad to draw schematics.
* ShipTease: With Bishi during Chapter 5 (along with the CMC), and Fancy Toff in Chapters 8 and 19. Both of the Fancy Toff encounters end with Apple Bloom embarrassing herself.

!Sweetie Belle
Rarity's little sister, and later fellow Alicorn.
* BadassAdorable: A lovely young filly (who induces CutenessProximity in the staff at the event Rarity is attending in Chapter 20, who all proceed to spoil her rotten with all the treats she can eat) that effortlessly adjusts to the craziness she gets thrown into and is ultimately responsible for Lord Malifec's death.
* HiddenDepths: At the Junior Gala she identifies some dresses as knockoffs by noting minor differences of quality between them and the real brands.
** Her time with the Crusaders has helped her get in shape; she can now keep up with (and even outrun) Rarity being pulled through the Neigh Orleans streets by her horn.
* MagicMusic: Sweetie Belle's singing clearly influences those who listen to it through mystic means such as semi-sentient defense plants and later Lord Malifec's zombies.
* OnlySaneMan: Definitely sees herself as more down to earth than her DramaQueen sister and her trouble-seeking fellow crusaders.
* ShipTease: With Bishi during the Coronation Gala (complete with what looks like an AlmostKiss scene, but Apple Bloom's run in with exotic cuisine ruins it) and Flute during Chapter 51 (she ''blushes'' when Flute thanks her for curing his muteness.)
* SweetTooth: In Chapter 20, is described as eating enough beignets that the narration states "One more trip to the buffet and the little unicorn was going to be 50% powdered sugar by body weight."
* WiseBeyondTheirYears: You wouldn't expect a young filly to understand the idea of a harem, much less forming one with her friends and the colt they have a mutual crush on as a "herd".

!Babs Seed
Cousin of Applejack and Apple Bloom.
* HiddenDepths: In-universe, she earns her Cutie Mark by quickly and effortlessly trimming/styling Applejack's mane, using a couple of tricks she picked up in Manehattan.
** Goes full badass with it at the trade show in Baltimare, taking down a hair monster with a giant pair of scissors and whatever mane/tail care products she can scrape up.
* LaserGuidedKarma: She considers encountering Penny Worth and his cronies in the Junior Gala to be this, due to her bullying of her cousin and her friends.
* OnceDoneNeverForgotten: The "Diaper Dance", a favorite torment of the bullies at Babs' school. They make a Cutie Mark Crusader wear his/her cape like a diaper and dance across the playground. The last colt they did it to was so embarrassed, he stayed out of school for the rest of the semester. Even though it didn't happen to her, the mere memory of it is enough to scare Babs silly.
* ShipTease: With Bishi in Chapter 4, shared by other Cutie Mark Crusaders.

!Scootaloo
A Pegasus filly that idolizes Rainbow Dash. Officially Dash's student, the two actually see each other as sisters. Later ascends to Alicornhood.
* AllOfTheOtherReindeer: Briefly when she goes off on her own in Windy City she gets harassed by older Pegasi because she flies on a glider and everyone around just ignores it.
* BadassAdorable: Not as much as the other Crusaders, mostly because she will deny the "adorable" part. Still she is a cute little filly that manages to out-fly older Pegasi on her glider.
* BerserkButton:
** ''Never'' badmouth Rainbow Dash, especially ''not'' when she is close enough to hear it. When she heard the Wonderbolts doing this, she was ''furious''.
** ''Never'' make it look like she's a traitor. When Mayor Fussbudget did it ForTheEvulz, Scoots' vision is stated to have gone pure red and she bit the jerk.
* HeroWorshipper: Thinks Rainbow Dash is the greatest pony alive and isn't shy about broadcasting it.
* EveryonesBabySister: In addition to Rainbow Dash, the Storm Guard (both the Wonderbolts and ''Thunderstreak'''s mechanical crew) also takes a shine to her after they learn about her trouble with flying and her determination to overcome said trouble. By ch. 43, all of them have included her in team exercises, provided encouragement, or made her a fold-up glider that bolts onto her scooter.
* OneOfTheBoys: She is quickly acknowledged as such by Nobody's Fools, joining in on their skate races and cliff diving without any fanfare about her gender. Although Softy tells Fledge to watch his language around "a lady" this prompts Scotaloo to tell the lady to get out of her flight path.
* ShipTease: With Bishi in Chapters 5 and 8, like the other Cutie Mark Crusaders.
* TomboyWithAGirlyStreak: Unlike Rainbow Dash, Scootaloo does have traditionally feminine interests like getting asked to dance by Bishi, getting her hands on a stuffed animal, and even ribbon dancing. Also unlike Dash, Scootaloo tends not to suffer embarrassing, hilarious or [[BreadEggsBreadedEggs embarrassingly hilarious]] mishaps during these events.
* UndyingLoyalty: The number 1 fan and now number 1 assistant to Rainbow Dash. She also develops it for the Nobody's Fools after befriending the group.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Twilight Guard]]
Twilight's PraetorianGuard, made up of well-educated ponies from each race (and also a handful of thestrals).
! Tropes that apply to all of them:
* GeniusBruiser: All of them are well-educated. Given that the Princess they're in charge of is also an example of this trope, however, it's to be expected.
!Flash Sentry
Captain of the Twilight Guard. [[BodyguardCrush Twilight seems to have a thing for him.]]
* TheAce: Is acknowledged by Princess Celestia as being a quick thinker in a crisis and having good instincts that soldiers twice his age sometimes lack. He prevented the events from Equestria girls from ever happening by capturing Sunset Shimmer before she could get back through the mirror, and has shown to have no hesitation about needing to use deadly force to perform his duties. He was the head of his class at Wing Point.
* CrazyPrepared: His first inclination upon learning everything he could about Hollow Shades, was to basically load up for taking on the forces of Dracula from {{Franchise/Castlevania}}, because while he can't tell how much of the intel is accurate, he also can't tell what ''isn't.''
* DidntThinkThisThrough: It completely slipped his mind to get an Aide-de-Camp to help with his paperwork until Spike pointed it out. In his defense, it probably slipped his mind due to having to deal with being overloaded with paperwork from his new boss.
* GeniusBruiser: Is stated to have been a Wing Point graduate, the Pony equivalent to West Point, marking him as being both competent as a soldier and very intelligent. He's shown to be knowledgeable enough about traditional monster repelling measures to be able to identify them when they reach the Hollow Shades hotel from a glance.
* IndyPloy: Favors on-the-spot planning and improvisation, much to the annoyance of his [[ScheduleFanatic overly planning]] boss, Twilight.
* MySignificanceSenseIsTingling: He accidentally stumbles on reports about weird phenomena in Hollow Shades. What he finds there is enough to set off his instincts and surmise that the place might be worth looking into for the sake of their mission.
* OnlySaneMan: Shares this duty with Spike regarding Twilight, being more down to earth and having more worldly experience than his relatively sheltered princess. He also has to deal with her obsessive compulsive tendencies, as they get in the way of his work.
* ProperlyParanoid: He exchanges Twilight's high-end research equipment that she originally intended to use for a field kit that a college student would realistically be expected to actually have in order to better preserve their cover, and uses the extra space to load up on gear and weapons to fight against the things that go bump in the night because the rumors about Hollow Shades makes it sound like they are about to enter a supernatural horror story. Cue the Dock Workers that are staffed by Deep One expies, even if he doesn't know it yet.
* ShipTease: Has several romantic scenes with Princess Twilight Sparkle, such as dancing with her at one of the towns they stopped at.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Storm Guard]]

Rainbow Dash's personal guard, they are made up of her heroes the Wonderbolts.
!Tropes that apply as a whole to all of them:
* TheAce: The Wonderbolts, just like in the show, are billed as the most talented fliers in all Equestria. Their current situation and performance leads to another trope before they get straightened out properly.
* BadassOnPaper: It's implied they've let their combat related skills go in favor of focusing on being basically show-ponies, same with letting some of their crisis management skills be affected negatively, as shown by how they flubbed rescuing Rarity in the show or how ineffective they were against [[AttackOfThe50FootWhatever greed-induced-growth Spike.]]
* BodyguardingABadass: With super-pegasine speed and greater-than-earth-pony strength, Rainbow Dash can beat the snot out of any of them... as she proves when she gets in a scuffle with Spitfire. They are more to help with the covert aspects of her mission.
* BrokenPedestal: After they start insulting Dash behind her back, she promptly unloads about how useless they have been in past. Once it's revealed what their mission actually is, it quickly becomes a RebuiltPedestal.
* IgnorantOfTheirOwnIgnorance: While their criticisms seem valid from the perspective of their of lack details about the mission they are on, namely that Dash's routine, which consists of going at high speeds very close to the audience, isn't the safest (she was using a locator spell to try and find Alicorns and was struggling with casting it over longer, and therefore safer for the audience, distances, thanks in no small part to the Wonderbolts' disloyalty to her) and that Dash, a high school dropout, received a diploma from her hometown that she didn't really earn (it was for weather management which Dash is incredibly skilled at), they were told by Celestia to ask for further details from Dash herself, and didn't, arrogantly assuming they knew what they were in for, which was essentially looking after an arrogant spoiled princess who only commissioned them as part of her personal guard due to being a fan, and not a mission of critical importance. Several readers who are in the armed forces called them out for their gross dereliction of duty and lack of professionalism.
* PoorCommunicationKills: Weren't told exactly what their ''real'' mission was so they interpret some of Dash's actions as ego inflation.
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: Dash delivers one that calls them out on being useless during the various crises that have plagued Equestria and on giving leadership to Lightning Dust who almost got Dash and her friends killed.
* WeHaveBecomeComplacent: The reason they went from being the most elite sky fighters in Equestria to being little more than celebrity athletes in the modern day era is complacency. One of the causes for the initial friction with Dash is because they had been seeing doing old fashioned guard duty as beneath them. Spitfire realizes from Dash's ReasonYouSuckSpeech how far the Wonderbolts have fallen.

!Spitfire
Commander of the Wonderbolts, and captain of the Storm Guard.
* TheAce: This is the pony that Rainbow Dash, the only pony so far capable of doing a Sonic Rainboom in the world that we know of, wished to emulate growing up. All the records Dash broke in Wonderbolts Academy? All set by Spitfire herself.
* BrokenPedestal: She was Rainbow Dash's idol growing up. She also didn't put a stop to the disrespect against the new princess because she agreed with the sentiment of her troops due to her own issues and never actually tried to clear things up with Dash before things came to a head later.
* CurbStompBattle: On the receiving end of one from Rainbow Dash, which lasts all of three seconds. Then again, messing with an Alicorn in close combat isn't a very good idea in the first place.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: After the beatdown, Rainbow [[TheReasonYouSuckSpeech tears the Wonderbolt captain a new one]],and gets reduced to tears at the end of the speech, inciting this reaction in Spitfire as she watches her charge cry. She realizes that Rainbow had to give up her lifelong dream of becoming a Wonderbolt due to her ascension, but at least had the opportunity to fly along with them- something which the Wonderbolts act like plot-heads to Rainbow for. On a more personal note, she had also hurt the feelings of ''her biggest fan''.
* PoorCommunicationKills: She's so used to Princess Celestia being obtuse in her chosen wording for orders that she didn't give much thought to the hint Celestia dropped regarding Dash providing further details on their ''actual'' mission and not the celebrity babysitting that she thought her Wonderbolts were going to be doing. While she HAD gotten sloppy to the point of not verifying details, had Celestia at least been clear that they were going to participate in a classified mission of national importance, the whole fiasco between Princess Rainbow Dash and the Wonderbolts could have been prevented.
* RebuiltPedestal: Acknowledging the decayed state of the Wonderbolts and resolving to whip them back into shape leads her to acting more like the pony Rainbow Dash admired as a filly.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: The moment the misunderstandings get cleared up, Spitfire takes it upon herself to help the Wonderbolts get straightened out and remind them that they AREN'T too good for basic guard duties.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Radiant Guard]]
Rarity's personal guards.
* AmazonBrigade: Most of the entourage are mares. They double as LadyOfWar too, because they also do modeling work for Rarity.
* CombatPragmatist: Most of them don't carry weapons or armor around, so they work by taking out targets fast and hard (if need be they even have a licence to kill), as well as being disguised in their work.
* {{Ninja}}: Most of the Radiant Guard are black-flag specialists, with a penchant for hidden weapons, stealth, and (if need be) lethal force, as outlined above. One of their named members is even of Neighponese descent. It is currently unconfirmed whether or not said member is an actual Kunoichi.
* TheSmurfettePrinciple: Inverted, most of the guard is female with few males. Dapper Blue is the only male in the guard that is actually ''named''.

!Dapper Blue
A male Radiant Guard that is good with plants. He also looks great in a three piece suit.
* BadassInANiceSuit: Dressed to kill, literally. His suit has space for a concealed rapier, and even has anti splatter spells on it to help keep it clean, although he still needs to physically remove it even when it doesn't stain.
* FantasticFruitsAndVegetables: Grows ''exploding chili peppers'' and SCP-504s (or "Trollmatos") in his greenhouse. In fact, most of the plants he grows are essentially references to Plants vs Zombies.
* FriendToAllChildren: He has an easy time getting along with Sweetie Belle, Mudpuppy and Twig, and is essentially assigned as their de facto babysitter. He doesn't seem to mind, and he's shown to be very good at reassuring them when dangerous situations happen, like he did with Sweetie Belle after he killed the Kappa who was menacing the bayou couple. He also allowed a part of his green house to be converted into a terrarium for Mudpuppy to bring her swamp pets aboard.
* GreenThumb: His special talent is not black flag operations but gardening; his cutie mark is a blue flower[[spoiler: actually poison joke]]. In fact, he is one of the royal gardeners. He just happens to use his special talent for black flag specialist work.
* IDidWhatIHadToDo: He has no qualms in blowing the head of a Kappa in front of a child, Sweetie Belle, and explains why it was necessary to do so in order to protect the expectant couple and themselves.
* NotSoAboveItAll: Was just as excited as the mares when Pecan Praline's foals were born. Not that you'd get him to admit it.
* SharpDressedMan: Unless he's in his greenhouse, he's always dressed in a three piece suit when on duty.

!Jade Blossom
A Radiant Guard of Neighponese ancestry, Jade Blossom is the resident stealth expert of the Radiant guard, or at least, the one that uses stealth the most whether or not it's needed.
* ItAmusedMe: She greatly enjoys the reactions on the faces of others when she speaks in her natural accent instead of the expected Neighponese accent.
* {{Kunoichi}}: Gives off this impression with her Neighponese appearance and certainly has the skillset for it. [[VocalDissonance Unfortunately]], her Appleloosan accent ruins it.
* NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast: She might be pretty, but as that page will clearly tell you, ''Jade'' isn't a name to mess with.
* StealthHiBye: Suddenly appearing behind someone without their noticing, or vanishing when they look away, is part of her skillset.
* StealthExpert: The resident master of stealth in the Radiant Guard. This extends to using stealth whether or not the situation at hand needs it.
* VocalDissonance: Has the air of an exotic, beautiful kunoichi with her angled eyes, curved body and Neighponese descent. However, she has an Appleloosan accent that completely destroys it.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Forest Guard]]
Fluttershy's personal guards, who are almost all "quiet as mice, gentle as lambs, patient as mountains and ferocious as lions", due to Celestia looking for individuals who were good around nature, had dealt with small children and animals, were good at keeping quiet, and familiar with dealing with timid and skittish wards... and who got soppy looks on their faces whenever Fluttershy walked past them.

!Captain Snowflake
Leader of the guard. This is the character that is now officially known as Bulk Biceps, as he was introduced into the fic before Bulk's official name was revealed in the cartoon.

* LargeHam: YEEEAAAHH!
* NoIndoorVoice: He is said to have "volume control" problems when addressing civilians.

!Orange Roughy

* ButtMonkey: First he gets tricked into sparring with [[BadassAdorable Bishi]] by one of his fellow guards, then he (not knowing of Bishi's martial arts training) asks Bishi to remove his padded booties and helmet. Needless to say, one shot knocks out all of his teeth as well as knocking him unconscious for 1-2 hours.
* CurbStompBattle: On the wrong side of one from Bishi. Unlike his earlier fight with the bullies, this one is more comedic than serious.
* UnderestimatingBadassery: He thought so little of Bishi as to give him a free shot. [[CurbStompBattle It didn't end well for him]].

!Golden Aegis

* KnightInShiningArmor: Apparently, he is part of a "would-be white knight" epidemic. In the words of Zephyr, "There was one in every group; some colt who had his head stuffed full of romantic notions of glory and chivalry and Champions of the Fair Maiden and all that".
* {{Troll}}: He takes great pleasure in setting Orange Roughy up to get his plot kicked in a humiliating fashion by suggesting that someone teach [[BadassAdorable Bishi]] hoof-to-hoof combat.

!Zephyr

* HypocriticalHumor: Immediately after he gives Golden Aegis a gentle (for a military officer) talking-to about being a slack-jawed "white knight" around Princess Fluttershy, [[HotGoddess she herself appears]] and he turns into one himself. [[HypocrisyNod He promptly decides to cut the "mooning private" a break]].
* OldSoldier: As he puts it:
-->"Gentlemen, I'm old but I'm not dumb."

[[/folder]]

[[folder: Bouncer Brigade]]
Pinkie Pie's personal guards, who were mostly former bouncers. They're used to wild parties and have a high tolerance for the outrageous.

* TheAhnold: They intentionally act like this, including speaking in Hosstrian accents. Coincidentally, they also have extremely large ''and'' muscular bodies.
* SeenItAll: Celestia choose them because their experience as bouncers would inoculate them against whatever madness their boss/charge cooks up.

[[/folder]]

[[folder: Roughnecks]]
Applejack's personal guard, a RagtagBunchOfMisfits who mostly come from rural backgrounds and are rather rough around the edges. They're probably the most racially diverse group of guards, including crystal ponies, zebras, batponies, donkeys, gryphons and diamond dogs.

!Captain Grey Wolf
A burly Pegasus with a scar on his face, like many of the Roughnecks, he was brought in from the border guard, but is very capable of enough ettiquette to deal with stuffy nobles, as shown in how he dealt with Applejack when she was still putting up the Manehattane Elite act.

!Appleseed
One of Applejack's cousins. Meeting him leads to her loosening up and reverting to her normal personality rather than the "high class" one she'd been putting on before.
* {{Nepotism}}: This is averted because he definitely doesn't get special treatment for being a princess' cousin. In fact, he gets a DopeSlap.
* VitriolicBestBuds: He and Applejack fought all the time when they were foals and in the main narrative he says she's "mean as a snake". Yet, he is obviously happy to see her.

[[/folder]]

[[folder: Nobody's Fools]]
A RagtagBunchOfMisfits that live in Windy City. Close friends with each other they each have dreams and desires that must weather the prejudice and social inequality of the city they live in.
!Tropes that apply to the whole group
* AllOfTheOtherReindeer: Their interests and dreams isolate them from others so they only have friends among themselves.
* BadassCreed: New members have the following line "hammered into them". It is literally RuleNumberOne: "Nobody's Fools; Nobody falls". As explained by Mach One, "you didn't wait for somepony else to save you, or to save somepony else. You ''were'' your brother's keeper out there. And if the Maker's eye was on the sparrow, then yours damn well better be too."
* GoodParents: Barring Foster (that being said, his grandfather does support him), they all have parents that may not always understand their interests or friends but love their kids and turn into a bunch of [[MamaBear Mama Bears]] and [[PapaWolf Papa Wolves]] when those kids are in trouble.
* ParentsAsPeople: Shows up a little bit in some parents, namely Crackerjack's dad and Foster's and Presto's parents. Crackerjack's dad thinks his son's too fragile to fight. Foster's parents love him but couldn't see how unhappy he was. Presto's parents were so focused on doing the "right thing" for their "tribally challenged" son that they missed the development of his impressive talents. All of them eventually come around.

!Flute
A mute unicorn who can produce sound effects from his horn to communicate, he's the first of the Nobody's Fools that Scootaloo meets and is responsible for her joining them in the first place.
* HandicappedBadass: He's mute but no less badass than Mach, if the Thunderdome rescue is any indication.
* NiceGuy: While he has every right to be angry at the world for being mute and living in a place that wants to normalize disabilities (his parents don't fall for that garbage, thankfully), Flute is in fact a very pleasant little colt in spite of his situation.
* ShipTease: Gets this with Sweetie Belle in Chapter 51, though it's mostly on her part (she blushes when Flute thanks her for teaching him how to speak.)

!Crackerjack
A scrappy unicorn with a special talent for brawling, he wants to be taken seriously as a fighter but has to deal with the stigma of unicorns not being known for their physical prowess.
* IJustWantToBeBadass: Wants be a fighter more than anything but no one will train him due to being a rather small unicorn. That is, until his father mentions that he can take Crackerjack to a dojo that is run by a Minotaur.
* UnskilledButStrong: He's not formally trained, and still put a good enough fight that the guards doing the raid on his friends had to put a magic cancelling horn ring on him and clamp down all his legs with shackles just to stop him.

!Cookie Spritzer
"Spritz" for short. A pegasus artist who specializes in wall paintings and graffiti; his mother owns a bakery. He had to stop using normal spray paints after an incident in which he accidentally set himself on fire and then ignited a roomful of paint fumes.
* BerserkButton: He hates being reminded of the time he set himself on fire by accident, coming to blows with Foster when the group's comedian wouldn't shut up about it.
* BookDumb: Requires LaymansTerms to understand the super-cell. In spite of being a Pegasus.
* NiceGuy: While he also pranked the group of hipster protesters that interrupted his club's race, he felt guilty upon witnessing their desperation at their unexpected color change and tried to reassure them that his heat triggered invisible paints could be washed up with just water.
* OnceDoneNeverForgotten: Foster has no qualms about ribbing Spritz for setting himself on fire with a safety lamp.

!Bananas Foster
A NouveauRiche pegasus that wants to be a comedian while his family wants him to focus on expanding their banana business.
* CallingTheOldManOut: Calls his ''entire'' family out on dictating his life towards what they wanted and forcing him into things that he had absolutely no interest in or talent for.
* CoolBigBro: The only member of his family that he gets along with his little sister, Banana Pudding, who he is very doting towards.
* DoesNotLikeSpam: After being fed bananas almost constantly for his entire childhood, can no longer stand them.
* EpicFail: He is ''terrible'' at business. So bad in fact he is the first 12-year-old to get audited by the Equestrian Revenue Service (Equestria's IRS).

!Zonk
A "zonkey", a donkey-zebra hybrid (his mother was a donkey and his father was a zebra), with a talent for communicating in multiple languages and is very handy with tools.
* {{Omniglot}}: He knows multiple languages and is the go to guy to help deliver things to foreigners, whether packages or foodstuffs.
* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: Only goes by Zonk as his actual name in Zebrayan translates into a copyright code. Mach One also jestingly calls him "Reserved" at one point.
* RealJokeName: Copyright 988, All Rights Reserved. Seriously, that's what his name means when translated out of Zebrayan. (His mother found it in a book of zebra baby names and thought it sounded exotic, so she wrote it on the birth certificate without getting a translation first, and her husband couldn't stop her in time.)
* WhoNamesTheirKidDude: When a watchzebra asked for his name, he replied "Zonk". The watchzebra asked for his ''real'' name, Zonk complied and the watchzebra asked a third time. He couldn't believe anyone would name their kid "Copyright 988, All Rights Reserved". (He found it more believable after Zonk explained that "My mother ... thought it was a name.")

!Presto
An earth pony that wants to be a great wizard. His parents, Kazam and Bibbity, are both unicorns and professors at the Alicorn Academy.
* AwesomeByAnalysis: He's an Earth Pony that figured out how to use Earth Pony Geomancy to etch unicorn spells into crystal without any formal education in either branch of spellcraft, so this is to be expected.
* MuggleBornOfMages: Both of his parents are unicorns and yet he turned out to be an earth pony. Thanks to his intelligence and determination, he can ''still'' use magic.
* TheSmartGuy: He's one of the brains behind Nobody's Fools' pranks. He's the one that produces Spritz' invisible paint, for instance.
* WeakButSkilled: While he can't cast spells himself, he's found a number of creative ways to trap spells for later use and is well-versed in most of the kinds of magic that exist.

!Soft Touch
A pudgy, tenderhearted unicorn colt who spends his time sewing plush toys for less fortunate foals. Goes by "Softy."
* InTouchWithHisFeminineSide: Sews plush toys for sick foals and orphans and won't stop fussing if someone gets injured.
* TheMedic: He's gotten very good at patching up his friends with salvaged medical supplies and gauze and can always be relied on to be able to bandage any of the Fools on the spot when they need it with his first aid kit.
* NiceGuy: Most of the plushies he makes are donated to the Children's Hospital or the Orphanage.
* ShrinkingViolet: Softy is so shy that he probably wouldn't have any friends at all if the Fool's hadn't taken him in.

!Bowser
An earth pony colt raised by Diamond Dogs, Bowser has a lot of doggy mannerisms, but the Fools don't mind at all.
* CloudCuckooLander: His doggy mannerisms from being raised by Diamond Dogs make him seem quite odd even compared to 'normal' ponies, enjoying playing fetch and panting with his tongue lolling out, even when as a pony, he doesn't physically need to do the latter, as he doesn't have a dog's physiology and a need to do that to dissipate body heat like dogs do.
* HappilyAdopted: By a couple of Diamond Dogs and so happily he totally went native. They have adoption papers and everything.
* NiceGuy: Having the basic personality of a friendly little puppy, it's to be expected.
* RaisedByWolves: His doggy mannerisms are due to his upbringing among Diamond Dogs.

!Wheezer
A sickly pony with a penchant for comic books, he is also knowledgeable in a variety of other topics and serves to inform his friends and others around him about useful facts and trivia.
* AwesomenessByAnalysis: He is able to explain the little details of what cutie marks represent from a glance.
* EideticMemory: He has one, and even got his cutie mark for it - a brain floating over a book.
* EncyclopaedicKnowledge: Due to his habit of constantly reading everything he can get his hooves on.
* TheSmartGuy: He's knowledgeable enough about many things to impress even Twilight Sparkle. He's not even old enough to be out of middle school or even maybe be a first year high school student.

!Fledge
A young gryphon that, due to working in his family's business, doesn't hang out as much with the others. Nonetheless, he's still a member of the gang and more than willing to stick by them when the chips are down. His family runs the skydiving business that the Fools like to frequent, North Face Leap.
* ChickMagnet: Even though he's a gryphon hatchling, the females of both his own species and other species can't get enough of the little guy. A front-page newspaper photo that shows him assisting in the Thunderdome rescue certainly doesn't hurt his chances, either.
* HeroWorshipper: He has a similar admiration for Prince Ajax that Filly!Rainbowdash had for the Wonderbolts. He erupts into "ohmygosh!"s when the prince complimented him for bravery.

[[/folder]]

[[folder: Antagonists]]
!Manehattan bullies
A group of upper crust colts and fillies that love to bully Babs and her Manehattan Cutie Mark Crusaders. They are part of the reason why Babs Seed took to siding with Diamond Tiara and pick on her cousin and her friends.
* CurbStompBattle: On the receiving end from the CMC, Babs and Bishi. Then again, messing with four foals (who can cause serious damage when cornered) and an accomplished martial artist accompanying them wasn't a good idea, [[MuggingTheMonster if they knew any better at that time.]]
* CutenessProximity: Marzipan was immediately smitten with the three piglets Granny Smith tasked her with taking care of.
* FreudianExcuse: Their parents are NouveauRiche ponies who have been extremely ruthless in trying to secure a place for themselves in high society, taking on ChronicBackstabbingDisorder to an alarming degree and treating their own children as nothing more than pawns to advance themselves... and the bullies, foals at the time, believed that is just how the world worked.
* GangOfBullies: Essentially. Unlike traditional examples used in media, they are all upper class sons and daughters. That doesn't stop them from being just as sadistic as bullies from the low or middle classes, and being from rich families let them get away with their acts of harassment much easier than if they were from the other social strata. In other words, they were ''worse'' than the bullies from other social classes because their wealth means they can easily invoke ScrewTheRulesIHaveMoney.
* HeelFaceTurn: As of chapter 53, Granny Smith is trying to invoke this. She started by putting Marzipan in charge of taking care of three piglets, with the added benefit of paying her to make sure they were well taken care of.
* LaserGuidedKarma: Long story short, attempting to bully four fillies and a colt (''four of whom are a direct relative of newly-ascended royalty and one is an 'honorary sister' to one of said royalty'') didn't end very well for them.
** And now ''three'' of those fillies they bullied are princesses in their own right. Their reactions [[spoiler: as outlined in Chapter 53]] are ''glorious'' , especially after we see Diamond Tiara having a less-drawn-out-and-detailed-than-most but ''delicious'' HumiliationConga after finding out in Chapter 52.
* MuggingTheMonster: The colts take Bishi too lightly, owing to his cute appearance and small size. Bishi proceeds to kick down their flanks and make it look easy.
** Similarly, they all underestimated the girls, who are all shown to be capable scrappers in a pinch, and who proceeded to completely wipe the floor with them when they commit to fighting back.
* NouveauRiche: Their families are actually this, which is implied to be part of the reason they are so unpleasant; their parents have been very ruthless in trying to carve a place in high society as quickly as possible, abandoning morality to a good degree and the foals grew up believing that's just how the world worked.
* ScrewTheRulesIHaveMoney: They got away with their bullying due to their families' money and influence as members of high society. And they have enough of it that they could keep attending a school after doing outright abusive harassment that lead to one of their victims not be able to complete a semester due to the trauma without getting expelled. Their luck runs out when they ran afoul of the CMC, Bishi and Babs. They get their flanks kicked and Celestia issues a royal decree to cut them off from their parent's funds.
* SpoiledBrat: They represent everything that is wrong with a good part of Equestrian High Society, thinking themselves above the common pony and feeling entitled to always get their way.
* ThatsWhatIWouldDo: They believe that the Apples will attempt to drive their families to the mud after Apple Bloom becomes a Princess because that's what their families would do if it happened to them. Granny Smith was appalled when she knew of this, especially after a nurse taking care of her outlines that it ''is'' that ruthless in high society.
* UpperClassTwit: All of them but their de-facto leader, Penny Worth, count as this. Airdrop and Bullhorn are DumbMuscle that had only spoken one line each up until the time they where shown arriving in Sweet Apple Acres, and Ruby Drop, Marzipan, and Ivy are just shrewish, spoiled harpies.

!Sheriff Brass
A small-town sheriff and key figure in an Earth Pony Supremacist group who pursues Trixie on trumped up charges to silence her about his abuses of power.
* FantasticRacism: He is a member of an Earth-Pony supremacy group that despises interbreeding between the different tribes, so this is a given.
* LaserGuidedKarma: Stripped of his office and thrown in prison by Celestia for abuse of power.
* SmallTownTyrant: Sheriff of a small town that he runs according to his racist ideals with an iron hoof. Willing to abandon children to die in the woods just for being unicorns. When Trixie rescued and adopted one of them, he tried to have her locked up to cover up his crimes.

!Malfunziona
A draconequus that was sealed away centuries ago by famous inventor Bold Lion, he was inadvertently freed from his prison before being defeated by Apple Bloom and locked up again. Like Discord he has chaos magic but his powers are limited to breaking machines.
* CripplingOverspecialization: He is a ''minor'' draconequus because unlike Discord his powers are limited to affecting machines.
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: Him going after any advanced device he could find not only kept Equestria in MedievalStasis for centuries, greatly limiting his power because he made ponies wary of developing technology due to the failures he caused, but by going after Bold Lion's creations specifically he ticked off an inventor capable of actually managing to successfully trap him.
* LogicBomb: Each time he gets captured (first by Bold Lion 500 years earlier, then by Apple Bloom in the present), his prison is a machine or device that's designed not to work. He can't escape on his own because using his powers would fix the device, which his nature won't allow him to do.
* NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast: "Malfunziona" is the shortened form of "Malfunzionamento" which translates into malfunction from Italian. This doubles as a MeaningfulName because this draconequus ''loves'' to speak in gratuitous Italian, and is clearly not someone to mess with.
* NotSoHarmlessVillain:
** Being only able to make machines go haywire might not seem like a big thing... but the Hospitals of Equestria are no different in equipment from real life hospitals, implied to extend to life support devices, and he has no qualms about recklessly endangering lives even fatally, while Discord at least kept his victims physically untouched even as he messed with their heads.
** Really, this is Malfunziona's whole schtick. He wasn't much of a threat back in Bold Lion's day since his powers were so specific and it was pre-industrialization -- not much machinery to break. In the modern day, however, where ''everything'' has been industrialized, his powers grow to the point that he could've easily surpassed Discord ''and'' the princesses in quick fashion had he made it out of the convention center.
* WhenAllYouHaveIsAHammer: His magic only allows him to break machines. He uses it to good effect considering that even the simplest of items that qualify as machines fall within his power. He can also create effects that go towards breaking machines, which gives him a bit of LoopholeAbuse with his magic.

!Cotton Mouth
A unicorn that came to the swamp of Neigh Orleans to sell a Vitality Elixir to the locals. Said elixir actually wound up being poison that killed nearly all of the foals whose mothers took it. Desperation to find out what went wrong caused him to wind up enslaved by the lich Malifec.
* BerserkButton: Being called a "foal killer" sends him in a berserker-like rage because it stirs up his guilt.
* BodyHorror: Used his own elixir on himself and was fine... at first. He eventually grew a third eye in his right cheek, and an extra horn stub next to his original horn, two stubby proto-wings in the WRONG PLACES in his torso, and one of his legs shriveled and shrunk, forcing him to walk using only three legs.
* DeathSeeker: Besides the soul crushing guilt he feels for accidentally killing 35 foals, he's also tormented by physical pain that Malifec cursed him with via geas. As soon as he mets Luna, he begs for a MercyKill.
* CrazyPrepared: During his last request, he explains that he always knew there was a chance that [[TorchesAndPitchforks it would come to the flame]], so he hid his research in a fire-proofed safe.
* MadScientist: He fits the character type to a good extent, being motivated primarily by his ego and proving his research right rather than a desire to better the lives of others when he sold the Elixir to the expectant mothers of the Bayou. His lab also fits the trope, being filled with beakers of strange liquid and grotesque creatures.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: It's initially ambiguous what horrified him more when he saw the symptoms of his vitality elixir, that the elixir was flawed or that he accidentally killed 35 foals. In either case, he was desperate to find an antidote.
* NeverMyFault: He's horrified by what happened with his elixir but denies responsibility for the lives lost because of it. [[SubvertedTrope Subverted]] once Malifec is destroyed and he admits his crime.
* NoBodyLeftBehind: Not even ashes remain after Luna executes him.
* ProfessorGuineaPig: Used himself as the test subject for his elixir. It did exactly what it was supposed to so he thought it was safe to give to others. Then he started showing negative side effects...
* SnakeOilSalesman: An unintentional example. His elixir genuinely worked on him at first and he doesn't want to sell scams like his father did. Unfortunately there were side-effects that started popping up ''after'' he had already sold it to several expecting mothers.
* TheyCalledMeMad: The reason for peddling his faulty elixir to the 37 mothers was in order to validate his findings after getting rejected by the scientific community, rather than to honestly help the mares of the bayou.
* TragicVillain: He is the son of a genuine SnakeOilSalesman that wanted to be a legitimate potioneer. He spent years and much effort to create his vitality elixir and it ''[[HopeSpot seemed]]'' to work perfectly but the scientific community rejected him on principal. So he tells a white lie to convince expectant mothers to drink it, hoping that the resulting "bumper crop of super foals" would validate him. Instead all but two of them died. He never found an antidote despite desperate searching. Then, years later, he finds out that one of them became the pinnacle of what he sought, reviving his hopes. Except, the lich who enslaved him wants to melt her down for himself so he can wither, kill and enslave more ponies. At that point, a mercy kill and a promise that someone else will make his research bear fruit is the happiest ending he could hope for.
* VillainsDyingGrace: Just before Luna kills him he makes a last request that his research be used to create a perfected Vitality Elixir.

!Lord Malifec
A lich who is responsible for destroying Port Malfou centuries ago and claiming the lives of all within as his zompony slaves. He has Cotton Mouth capture a newly crowned Mudpuppy in order to use her essence to restore his decayed form.
* AgeWithoutYouth: Turns out to be the deal with becoming a lich; all the power and longevity but at the cost of constantly decaying.
* BlessedWithSuck: In addition to the above mention [[AgeWithoutYouth problems]] [[HolyBurnsEvil with]] [[WeaksauceWeakness lichdom]], Malifec has lost the ability to enjoy pleasant sensations (taste, smell, etc.), and all emotions not associated with malice have been worn away over the years.
* BodyHorror: Dude is ''not'' remotely pleasant to look at and that is without getting into the mechanical parts sewn into him.
* CripplingOverspecialization: Whilst his necromancy is stated to be perfectly capable of harming the living, it's next to completely useless against the undead (see HoistByHisOwnPetard below).
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: Killed the residents of Port Malfou to make them into his zompony slaves and Sweetie Belle turns them against him, which ultimately leads to his demise. Even better, they kill him by forcing him into the [[HolyGround Counterbalance]] that he had to make in order to make his lair Unchartable.
* HolyBurnsEvil: The hillock that Sweetie Bell and Mudpuppy take refugee on has been "blessed" by having sunlight and moonlight focused on it through the Counterbalance of his Uncharted spell. He can't set hoof there without burning up.
* KnightOfCerebus: This is a slice of life humorous story and he is something that would fit in a Lovecraft story. Do the math.
* PocketDimension: Created one out of the remains of Port Malfou which is where he hides. It is "Unchartable", which means that space and time are twisted around a given area. Not even the Sun or the Moon can see it.
* [[HumanResources Pony Resources]]: Due to the [[AgeWithoutYouth nature of lichdom]], he's had to chop ponies up and graft parts of them to his own body. Later, Cotton Mouth devises a more refined method that involves melting the victim down into protoplasm that Malifec can then soak in.
* WeaksauceWeakness: Sunlight or moonlight will kill him if he's exposed to it. It's implied that Mudpuppy at least might have a natural aura that does the same, with only Celestia and Luna being able to do the same due to their connections with the sun and the moon.
* WouldHurtAChild: Intends to have Mudpuppy killed to restore his damaged form and killed several foals when he destroyed Port Malfou.

!Mayor Fussbudget
The Mayor of Windy City, a career politician that isn't as good at his job as he believes himself to be and eventually his own misdeeds backfire on him.
* ControlFreak: He's noted as being this, running the City like his own private fiefdom and putting rules and regulations on anything he can find just because he can and if it will allow him to remain in power regardless of the effects to the town's morale or even if they make any actual sense.
* CorruptPolitician: Chapter 49 has Mach One outline all of the blatantly immoral things he has done to remain as Mayor.
* DidNotThinkThisThrough: His half-baked assumptions ''really'' backfire once he has the Fools arrested. Not only did he have them arrested on flimsy charges but his belief that they are a bunch of street urchins gets thrown out when their parents show up enraged at how their kids have been treated ''and'' he defied a royal order, which means he committed treason to the crown.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: He is enraged that Mach would think that he had anything to with the Crownbreakers who performed a terrorist attack. Unfortunately for him, Mach does ''not'' buy it.
* EvilUncle: Took in his orphaned nephew purely so he could milk the publicity over caring for a young crippled orphan, and pretty much neglected him except for when he needed to display him for the voters. When Mach snapped and said what he ''really'' thought of his guardian in front of the press, Fussbudget quickly had him transferred to the care of a relative who lived out of town.
* GuiltByAssociation: One of the Crownbreakers who played a direct role in the Thunderdome incident was interning in his office. Mach predicts that once this gets out, [[MortonsFork everyone will assume that he's either involved with them or hopelessly incompetent for not noticing that a member of his office staff was involved with a terrorist group]].
* HumiliationConga: Once he has the Nobody's Fools arrested the Mayor finds out that the skate rats he has been trying to get rid of aren't street urchins that no one would miss but have rather protective parents (some of whom are university professors and rich Pegasi) who are ''not'' happy about his antics, has Dash out for blood for defying a royal order and locking up Scootaloo, has the entire fiasco printed out in the papers on Dash's orders, and finds some of the questionable laws he passed revoked while being under fire for associating with terrorists. [[LaserGuidedKarma Couldn't happen to a nicer guy.]]
** And that's not even getting into whatever Pinkie is planning to do to him for his [[ThisIsUnforgivable unspeakable crime]] of giving his nephew a papier-mâché birthday cake. Her promise that he'll survive it isn't very reassuring... [[spoiler:She made a perfect duplicate of the fake cake and forced him to eat the entire thing.]]
* IdiotBall: Between not being able to realize how pointless his efforts at keeping power are and not noticing the Crownbreakers being right under his nose, it's generally agreed Fussbudget grabbed onto this and never let go.
* KickTheDog: Makes it seem like Scootaloo sold out the Nobody's Fools when he arrests them just to be a jerk.
** Later has many of the Fools' personal possessions destroyed, some of which were an inhaler and allergy medicine, on trumped up charges just out of sadistic glee. The resulting carnage of Softy's stuffed animals drives the poor colt to tears and Fussbudget is never seen to apologize for any of it.
* LaserGuidedKarma: Well, he did some sick KickTheDog moments, so the HumiliationConga that follows afterwards is thoroughly deserved.
* RedHerring: Of being TheManBehindTheMan for the Crownbreakers. Lampshaded when Mach One accuses him.
* ScrewTheRulesIHaveConnections: Only reason he got an arrest warrant to start with was his cousin being a judge.
* WindmillPolitical: ManipulativeBastard variety. His political platform is essentially all about dealing with supposedly big problems that aren't actually issues at all. Of course, he doesn't actually believe in the nonsense he's spouting, just does it to get support from the wackjobs, loonies, and PoliticalOvercorrectness groups. All the issues he campaigns against are just convenient scapegoats to justify his actions and laws.

!The Crownbreakers
A social movement that seeks to either abolish the crown or at least remove the current princesses from the throne.
* AssholeVictim: It's all but implied that they were being used by an instigator in order to destroy the Thunderdome and cause a catastrophe. They are also very unpleasant, obnoxious and downright idiotic sons and daughters of rich families that are protesting the new princesses for the nebulous reason of "Preserving their way of life" or because they get to fight for a cause they think is important regardless of whether or not it really is.
* EvilCounterpart: To the Nobody's Fools. Both groups have problems with Equestrian society but while the Fools are AllOfTheOtherReindeer TrueCompanions whose views are based in how they have been rejected by society, the Crownbreakers are self-motivated rich kids and ready to sell each other out.
* {{Hipster}}: To a one, the Crownbreaker members of Windy City are described as being this, with all the hypocrisy that entails.
* {{Irony}}: Their stated goal on paper is something along the lines of the dissolution of the monarchic system of rule and allegedly move to a more democratic one. The Princesses also want to dissolve the monarchy by making so many alicorns that they become 'just another pony species' so that the ponies will start ruling themselves instead of always looking towards alicorns to rule over them.
* ManBehindTheMan: Someone is responsible for organizing the normal protest groups into a terrorist cell but no one knows who. The fact that they managed to get bombs with industrial grade cloud solvent as their main component, and in high enough amounts that they dissolved the entire Thunderdrome hint at the one responsible having access to resources that most ponies don't have.
* NotSoHarmlessVillain: Seem ineffectual after the Fools easily humiliate them at a protest... then they destroy the cloud coliseum which would have ''killed'' everyone that couldn't fly, including several [[WouldHurtAChild Pegasi foals]], and would have created a super cell that would destroy the inhabited lands below the coliseum.
* TheRevolutionWillNotBeCivilized: They destroyed the Thunderdome to strike at Equestrian Royalty and Princess Rainbow Dash specifically, even when the new stadium was also filled to bursting with non fliers and the handicapped, and endangering the lives of a visiting dignitary from an allied nation and his entourage. And the super cell that was created with their actions put even the healthy fliers, the people living in the valley below, and the rest of Windy City at risk. And they feel perfectly justified in doing so.
* UpperClassTwit: They claim to be fighting for the common pony, but are described as cake-eating hipsters only playing at being part of the "oppressed classes" without honestly sympathizing with them in reality or even having a reason to care beyond fighting for a "Great and Important Cause" or protecting their own entitlement.

!Discord
The spirit of chaos.
* AdaptationalHeroism: Isn't as much of a jerk as he is in canon and his support for the Panacea Plan is sincere.
* ButtMonkey: Like Luna, it's rare for him to show up and not end up becoming comic relief.
* PetTheDog: Creates a flock of butterflies to help give Fluttershy an amazing sendoff from the port.
* OhCrap: Has this reaction when he learns that Malfunziona (a draconequus that gains power from tampering with machines) is loose at a tech expo.
* InsistentTerminology: Whenever someone says that Malfunziona is a draconequus, Discord will pipe in to say that he is a ''lesser'' draconequus. Considering the former's CripplingOverspecialization, this is a meaningful distinction.
* PowerLimiter: He is fitted with a heavy iron collar that is inscribed with runes which reduce his power to a trickle.
* RestrainingBolt: The iron collar will also petrify him if he breaks his parole.
* WildMagic: His brand of magic, chaos, is a crapshoot when even he uses it. It is described as "getting irritable" when someone tries to use it scientifically.

!Harshwhinny
Rainbow Dash's secretary.
* BadassBureaucrat: A secretary that effortlessly manages Dash's laissez faire ways of going about things and gets unleashed on Fussbudget when he ''way'' oversteps his boundaries.
* BeleagueredAssistant: It irks her how Rainbow Dash lets things pile up, which necessitates her having to find the princess to discuss them. She is irked even more when Rainbow Dash flies somewhere she can't follow to pre-empt such discussion.
* DeadpanSnarker: One of the sharpest wits seen in the story, and everyone gets a taste of it. She can zing Rainbow Dash without speaking.
* TheConsigliere: Dash hired her to be this for her, knowing that she needed a pony that could run herd on her when necessary.
* HypercompetentSidekick: She is Rainbow Dash's secretary, and is the one keeping her airship operating properly and the public appearances in order, and the travel arranagements proceding smoothly, and responsible for addressing any legal issues that arise.
* ImAHumanitarian: Invoked as part of a BadassBoast to Fussbudget. "I'm from the government, ''and I eat my own kind''." She's referring to other career bureaucrats.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Is ''very'' terse with Dash but does mean to help.
* NervesOfSteel: Nothing manages to rattle her very much. Not even being grabbed in her boss's telekinetic grip and pulled through a cloud wall.
* NotSoAboveItAll: Gets even with Dash for her antics trolling her once or twice. One stellar example is [[spoiler: remaining silent on the fact of Mach One's true age so Dash can humiliate herself flirting with him and then panic at lusting over a colt.]]
* NotSoStoic: When Scootaloo discovers she can fly post-ascension and begs Dash not to reveal she was crying, Harshwhinny, her makeup utterly ruined by her own tears, says she'll deny it on Scootaloo's behalf.

!Ajax
The Griffon Kingdom's prince.
* BirdsOfAFeather: With Rainbow Dash, being a royal with a "rough cut personality" who doesn't like all the frufru that comes with being royalty.
* RoyalsWhoActuallyDoSomething: He jumped in to help with the Thuderdrome crisis. On a lesser note, he also volunteers to go on foodruns to burger barns.
