The defenders of Mobius who oppose the tyrannical rule of Dr. Eggman. Originally stationed in Knothole, the team waged war against "Robotropolis" to reclaim their old kingdom.\
Eventually they succeeded and Sally's father was restored as King--but they fell prey to internal politics as the survivors flooded back into Robotnik's rusted-out city, and the reconstruction effort was at a standstill. Other villains would come and go, such as Ixis Naugus, Mammoth Mogul (kind of a mix of Wilson Fisk and Vandal Savage), and the High Sheriff (a [[TheRemnant remnant]] of Robotnik's colonial force). When "Eggman" arrived from another reality to seize the city, the population was forced out again and the comic [[ResetButton reset to square one.]]\
This new Doctor wasn't there to play games; he later razed Knothole to the ground, and the Freedom Fighters relocated to New Mobotropolis, which was terraformed to conveniently resemble their old kingdom before Robotnik took it over. This new city was a lot harder to conceal than Knothole was, [[TakeOverTheCity so it continually fell under attack]], though it remained their headquarters for the duration of this timeline. Along the way, they did battle with the bellicose Dingo Regime, the returning Dark Legion (though they were primarily Knuckles villains), and the Suppression Squad (a MirrorUniverse version of the Freedom Fighters who hail from a hilariously-opposite version of Sonic's world and debuted way earlier in the comic).\
In the Post-Reboot world, the Freedom Fighters eventually created a new mobile airbase dubbed the ''Sky Patrol'' (A direct reference to a`GaidenGame, ''VideoGame/TailsSkyPatrol'') to better aid the world wherever they need it.
----
!!Tropes associated with the entire Team
* BadassCrew: Oh so very much. They were able save entire planets through their teamwork.
* CharacterMagneticTeam: They also have many different factions around the world due to their efforts.
* EveryoneHasStandards: In issue 230, despite trashing Eggman's goons in droves on a regular basis, they're still utterly repulsed to find out just how far Eggman's BadBoss tendencies go; he reveals his World Roboticizer will destroy everything that's already robotic, and when pointed out that he'll be destroying his Dark Egg Legion and Badnik Horde as well, Eggman, with a giant SlasherSmile, states outright that he doesn't care because [[WeHaveReserves he can easily rebuild]]. It's at this point that Sonic, who previously [[SympathyForTheDevil pitied Eggman]] due to his VillainousBreakdown, loses any tolerance or patience he had for Eggman, [[BeyondRedemption openly regretting ever feeling sorry for him at all]].
-->'''Sonic''': I never should've showed you a shred of mercy, [[CurseCutShort you sick-!]]
* LaResistance: Started off as a small ban of rebels fighting against Eggman's tyranny, now they defend the entire world from his influence.
* MoralMyopia: The Freedom Fighters are genuinely altruistic and courageous, but still flawed beings prone to impulsive decisions and sometimes conflict with allies over their inability to practice what they preach:
** Despite being the ones to put the [[NotSoOmniscientCouncilOfBickering Council of Acorn]] in charge in the first place to keep order, they [[ScrewTheRulesImDoingWhatsRight routinely defy or ignore them]] whenever they don't make the decisions they want. Sally, ironically the most strategic and political of the group, was actually rather bewildered and hurt when they took offense to this.
** They have a wavering view of using firearms DependingOnTheWriter. Rotor to his credit lampshaded his hypocrisy on the matter at one point.
** In issue 221, Mina calls them out on this. When Sally tries to lecture her on being responsible after her songs end up rallying the public against [[ArtificialIntelligence Nicole]], Mina turns it around and retorts she and the rest of the Freedom Fighters have no room to lecture her on responsibility considering the fact that even after Nicole was [[BrainwashedAndCrazy hijacked]] by the [[{{Technopath}} Iron Queen]], they continue to keep her in power at New Mobotropolis and don't even bother coming up with any failsafes to prevent her from being compromised again.
* RagtagBunchOfMisfits: Let's see, an arrogant speedster, a princess, a young prodigy, a coward, a cyborg, and a weapons expert and the only thing they had in common was their desire to protect their home. And that's not even counting the later additions to the team.
* SignatureTeamTransport: Post-reboot, the Sky Patrol counts. It looks like a giant bumper seen in most of the series` games.
* TeenageMutantSamuraiWombats: Well, they sort of count. The whole "Teenage Superhero Animals" part anyway.
* RelativeButton: Given how many friends and relatives they've lost in their war against Eggman and other villains, the Freedom Fighters are ''very'' protective of whoever they have left. Even allies such as Mina and Silver met an uncharacteristic fury from them for making accusations towards their group. For cases such as Mina and Dr Ellidy however, it does sometimes get thrown back at them, since many are more than willing to point out that [[ProtagonistCenteredMorality they're not the only ones who lost people]] and in some cases it's even because of ''their'' [[NiceJobBreakingItHero poorer decisions]].
* ScrewTheRulesImDoingWhatsRight: They find themselves increasingly falling into this in the face of the [[ObstructiveBureaucrat Council of Acorn]] pre-reboot. Best displayed during the "Bold New Moebius" arc; when Scourge and the Suppression Squad invade Mobius Prime and boot them out of Freedom HQ, the Council refuses to let them retake their base in favor of focusing on their ongoing assault on Eggman, believing that Scourge couldn't possibly make as much of a gain on their world as he did on his own. In response, the Freedom Fighters not only chase Scourge out of Freedom HQ on their own, but counter-invade Moebius to deal with him for good.
* TagalongKid: Cream. She's by far the youngest and least combat orientated member, but determined to defend her home.
* {{Team Pet}}: T-Pup and Cheese
* TrueCompanions: Have been together for years and been though heck and back and still made it out friends.
* WillTheyOrWontThey: Thanks to RuleOfDrama, the comic is chock full of complicated [[LoveDodecahedron love tangles]] with each character dating pretty much everyone else through the entire series run. In all of this, the only confirmed romances are Sonic and Sally, who are MarriedInTheFuture (they were also the OfficialCouple in WesternAnimation/SonicTheHedgehogSatAM, which inspired this series) and Bunnie and Antoine, who married (before being roughly broken up again late in the series). [[NoRomanticResolution Then the comic ended]], preventing any of the other romances (of which there are many) from concluding.

Billed as "the Hero of Mobius," this version of Sonic is still brash, irreverent, and cocky, but also has heroing as a full-time job that he couldn't quit if he wanted to ([[JumpedAtTheCall not that he does]]). Robotnik's coup against the government happened when Sonic was five years old, and for the ~10 years of ComicBookTime since he's spent the majority of his energy enthusiastically opposing him. Though not the tactical leader of the Freedom Fighters, he is certainly their most iconic member, and one of their greatest assets against Robotnik. Sonic's ego, though undeniable, is braced somewhat by the [[ThePowerOfFriendship spirit of teamwork]] and a [[AllLovingHero genuinely selfless impulse]], against a backdrop of sobering losses to a tyrant who has wreaked havoc amongst the lives of Sonic and his friends and family. Thus at his worst Sonic is occasionally thoughtless or insensitive, but generally friendly and easygoing, quick to forgive and loyal to a fault.

While some of the events have changed Post-Genesis Wave, not much as really changed about his history save for the fact he's now parentless (due to the lawsuit between Archie and Ken Penders, as his parents were Penders-made characters).

----
!!Tropes Applying to Both Versions
* AdaptationalBadass: ''Good lord, where do we even begin?'' Sonic has always been fast, but Archie Sonic takes it to a whole new level. Including doing things like:
** Grabbing water and hurling it like a ball in a tenth of a femtosecond, before the laws of displacement can take effect.
** Crossing the entire multiverse via the Cosmic Interstate.
** Managing to knock out his own shadow via casually moving at light speed.
* AdaptationalJerkass: While not to the extent of his ''ComicBook/SonicTheComic'' counterpart, Sonic's flaws are emphasized more in this incarnation, and he verges into JerkWithAHeartOfGold territory more often than not. Examples include:
** He criticizes and insults Tails' father for kick-starting a VelvetRevolution ''right in front of Tails himself'' during the House of Cards arc, and when trying to stop his mother from breaking him out of jail to continue it, fully expects Tails to be 100% okay with him doing so, going so far as to smirk and gloat to Rosemary and Amadeus' faces that even if they are his parents, Tails [[HeroWorshipper worships]] him and will [[EasilyForgiven get over it]]. Instead, Tails is justifiably pissed over all of that, on top of his dating Fiona, and hearing that leads him to snap and try to beat the crap out of Sonic.
** In the games, Sonic is generally an AllLovingHero (albiet with a sarcastic streak and some fairly [[GoodIsNotSoft ruthless moments when it comes to the nastier villains]]). As much as Archie Sonic ''tries'' to be such at times, he generally has a history of holding long lasting and sometimes even outright violent grudges:
*** After the events of ''Sonic 3 and Knuckles'', Sonic seemed perfectly willing to befriend Knuckles, with most of the distrust and resentment being one-sided on Knuckles' part, and often comedic (though Sonic has no qualms about playfully insulting him). Their Archie incarnations had mutual ''hatred'' between them for a long while even after Knuckles realized Robotnik's deception. And while Knuckles generally avoids the same trickery afterwards, they still regularly spat, blame each other for things going wrong or just show petty resentment towards each other, with just as much vitriol on Sonic's part as Knuckles'. They cool down eventually, but still have more serious disagreements than in the games.
*** In comparison to his games counterpart, who was perfectly willing to forgive and forget Silver for doing such acts as trying to kill him out of misguided heroism, Sonic's attitude towards him for similar acts here is much less relaxed, leading him to end up smashing Silver through a wall, trying to Spin Dash him to oblivion, and giving him a brutal TheReasonYouSuckSpeech, calling him nothing but a [[HeroicWannabe flake]] compared to the Knothole Freedom Fighters and ordering him to get away from him and ''stay'' away. Even after calming down, the next time they meet, Sonic still sees red, telling Silver in no uncertain terms that he's ''done'' listening to anything he has to say and ordering him to screw off. [[JustifiedTrope To be fair]], this was right after Sonic had just witnessed Sally's roboticization and Antoine, one of the people Silver [[InspectorJavert accused of being a traitor]] with little-to-no evidence to back it up, had been rendered comatose [[HeroicSacrifice after saving Elias and the Acorns from Metal Sonic]]. He does eventually forgive Silver, but it takes a lot more convincing from his allies as well as Silver obtaining Mecha Sally for Sonic to lighten up around him.
* AngstWhatAngst: InUniverse, Sonic's more likely to smile and crack a few jokes than wallow in depression. Though it takes a ton to make Sonic sad and down.
* AntiHero: Like other portrayals, but the comics tend to emphasize his flaws a bit more without [[ComicBook/SonicTheComic making him an out-and-out Jerk Ass.]]
* BigBrotherInstinct: Usually towards Tails, though he sometimes passes it off to younger heroes.
* BigEater: Sometimes justified as a side-effect of how much energy his SuperSpeed antics burn up, but even so, Sonic can really pack away a lot of food without gaining weight.
* CharacterCatchphrase: "Let's do it to it!"
* ChildSoldier: He's been fighting Robotnik since he was a kid, all the while avoiding most of the {{Angst}} that comes with this trope.
* DeadpanSnarker: Takes this trait from the games and amps it up.
* {{Determinator}}: No matter the odds or how bleak it looks, Sonic ''never'' gives up, and this inexhaustible determination is one of his strongest character traits.
* DidntThinkThisThrough: A recurring problem with him.
** Pre-reboot, this nearly cost him his friendship with Tails when he, hurting over a recent breakup with Sally, pursued a relationship with Fiona despite full knowledge of Tails' own crush on her. When Tails confronts him about being so insensitive over it in issue 179, Sonic explains that he knew that Tails liked Fiona and that she had no interest in him, so he went out with her to prevent Tails' own feelings from getting hurt and hoped it would help him get over it, while acknowledging that it was a spur of the moment idea and he didn't think before he took action.
** Narrowly averted with Silver. Despite having every reason to be angry with him, Sonic ignores some crucial facts in his blind, stubborn dismissal that reaches into Hypocrite territory to the point where it takes Tails (who was heavily implied to have realized it himself) to convince him into working with the former.
*** Sonic has a history of befriending people who attacked him and/or his friends in the past (Knuckles, Shadow, Blaze, Monkey Khan) which also even included Tails himself.
*** Sonic's belief in forgiveness and second chances also extended to ''Eggman'' of all people, and repeatedly offered it to him until recently.
*** Silver had just went out of his way to work for the multiple other factions of the Freedom Fighters, which ''shows'' the CharacterDevelopment he desperately needed. On top of being stuck in the past until his mission to save it is complete, it's not like Sonic's harsh opinion of him is actually going to make him go away anytime soon no matter how much he insists on it.
* EarlyInstallmentWeirdness: Some aspects of Sonic's character from the earlier stories seem jarring when compared to elements that have become generally accepted aspects of his character. Such as his [[SuperDrowningSkills lack of hydrophobia]], which has since been incorporated into more recent stories.
* EvenTheLovingHeroHasHatedOnes:
** By the closing points of the pre-reboot series, Sonic had become laid back enough to make peace with a lot of his past grudges and even re-evaluate ones against homicidal murderers like Eggman during their most pitiful light. However, he had grown to violently ''hate'' [[WindmillCrusader Silver]] for pointing fingers at his Freedom Fighter comrades. While this was galvanized a lot by the distress of several of them being collateral damage to the war at the time, even later on, when Silver repented and had gained forgiveness from other factions such as the Secret Freedom Fighters, [[OOCIsSeriousBusiness Sonic very aggressively rejected any apologies from him]] prior to some heavy convincing from [[MoralityPet Tails]]. Questioning his friends' heroism was a very big BerserkButton to ease over.
** When facing Eggman following the Genesis arc, shortly after Eggman's temporary descent into madness, Sonic begins the usual cocky banter, until Eggman reveals his ultimate scheme: to robotocise the entire planet, which would have the effect of detonating ''all'' robotic life (and anyone close by). An immediately horrified Sonic and Sally question this, since Eggman would destroy his own forces, which he shrugs off apathetically ("[[YouCantMakeAnOmelette you can't make an omelette without breaking a few eggs]]"). Sonic, who had previously [[SympathyForTheDevil pitied Eggman]] following his VillainousBreakdown, is blinded with rage and disgust, outright saying he regrets ever feeling sorry for him at all.
* GuileHero: Despite his hotheadedness and impulsiveness, and being BookDumb, Sonic is good at thinking on his feet and turning a situation to his favor with limited time and resources. Best shown from issues 175-177: after being curb-stomped by Eggman's PoweredArmor, Sonic is able to put together a rescue mission to save all of Knothole's inhabitants from the Egg Grapes with just the help of Tails, Knuckles, Amy, and Nicole. When Eggman attacks New Mobotropolis in a rage and Sonic goes out to confront him, the doc expects a repeat of their previous fight with the exact same results; instead, Sonic had deduced that his new armor was ''[[CripplingOverspecialization only]]'' [[CripplingOverspecialization designed to face and outfight him]] and brings along the rest of the Freedom Fighters and Chaotix as backup, utterly destroying the armor and forcing a humiliated Eggman to retreat.
* HeroicSecondWind: PlotArmor prevents him from losing outright. If he ''does'' get his butt kicked by the end of one issue, or at least close to, it's guaranteed he'll kick back in the next one.
* HeroicWillpower: Sonic's willpower is practically his secondary super-power, after his trademark SuperSpeed.
* HiddenDepths: Sometimes shows his sensitivity to his closest friends in rare situations where he isn't on bravado frat boy mode.
* IdiotHero: An artifact of the comic's [=SatAM=] origins. Before Ian Flynn took over writing duties he tended act much more brash, arrogant and childish, particularly in stories by Karl Bollers or Ken Penders.
* InexplicablyAwesome: The origin of his super speed and his other many other special abilities have never gotten any kind of explanation.
* IntangibleMan: This version has the ability to vibrate his molecules to pass through objects a la Franchise/TheFlash.
* InvincibleHero: Definitely averted. While the comics were mandated to have Sonic always win, there was plenty enough LoopholeAbuse allowed to how gruelling or bittersweet a victory it could be so as to keep him fallible. The best example is during the events of Sonic #175, where Eggman manages to obliterate Knothole HQ and hand Sonic his prickly behind. [[HeroicSecondWind What happened later, however....]]
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Occasionally, he will stumble into this role.
* LeeroyJenkins: One of Sonic's biggest flaws is a tendency to let his impatience get the best of him, leading to him rushing headlong into danger.
* LetsGetDangerous: It's very rare, but there are times when he drops the corny jokes and carefree demeanor, and focuses on taking out the threat at hand.
* LightningBruiser: Very much MadeOfIron and one of the strongest and the fastest in Mobius, in contrast to his FragileSpeedster games incarnation.
* MadeOfIron: Sonic's taken a lot of punishment over the years, but even after being beat down, he'll get right up and come back for more. His frequent use of the power-boosting Power Rings (and, by extension, the Chaos Emeralds) may have played a factor to this trope.
* PhysicalGod: Both his Super Sonic and Ultra Sonic forms. Super Sonic has the same powers as his main counterpart, but Ultra Sonic is on a whole other level, because in this form, he is unbeatable and invincible as well as having fate manipulation.
* ThePowerOfFriendship: Sonic believes in it.
* SuperMode: Super Sonic (obviously) and Ultra Sonic.
* SuperSpeed: He's not called Sonic for nothing. He can run faster than the speed of sound. He can run even faster by performing a figure-8 technique with his legs. He can also use his body and quills like a buzzsaw.
* TookALevelInJerkass: ''Definitely'' not a total jerk, but his tendency to let his ego rage out of control and insensitive behavior is called out more often than some of his [[WesternAnimation/AdventuresOfSonicTheHedgehog other]] [[ComicBook/SonicTheComic portrayals]], where they're usually brushed off or accepted. Furthermore, he's able to work past and make up for them with surprising sensitivity.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Along with ''[=SatAm=]'', this was one of the first iterations of the franchise to emphasize Sonic's love of chili dogs.

!!Pre-Reboot Tropes
* AllLovingHero: Some SympathyForTheDevil moments during the Iron Dominion arc (some of which towards ''Eggman'' of all people) seem to approach him as this trope....only for it to all backfire on him straight after in the Mecha Sally arc, with a merciless string of hardships from both [[ATasteOfDefeat foes]] ''and'' [[EtTuBrute allies]] [[TookALevelInCynic leaving him much more cynical and unforgiving]]. It is only just before the effects of the cosmic wave retcon that he shows signs of regaining his more trusting qualities.
* BadassBoast: After recovering from his HeroicBSOD in issue 236, he gives one to Eggman, who's in disbelief that Sonic was able to pull himself together despite everything that's happened.
-->'''Sonic''': I won't stop until I've saved everyone you've captured! I'll never stop until I've honored the sacrifices of everyone who's fallen along the way! And I won't be through until I've kicked your flabby behind once and for all! So you just keep pushin' me, doc! I'll push right back!
* BalloonBelly: In the chapter ''The Return of Uncle Chuck''.
* BattleCouple: Whenever he fights alongside Sally.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: When pushed to his limits, will ''break'' limits. And walls. With your face, as Silver will attest to.
* BloodKnight: He's not murderous and is nowhere ''near'' the psychopathic extreme that defines this trope, but certain stories have shown that Sonic enjoys fighting Robotnik and the rest of his various RoguesGallery a bit too much.
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: Twice. The first time involved amnesia, and the second was when he was Roboticized into Mecha Sonic. Note that the latter involved him FightingFromTheInside.
* BreakTheBadass: There are rare times this happens to him, specifically in the pre-SGW era, but they just as rarely last long.
** He thought to have lost everyone and everything to Robotnik's Ultimate Annihilator during the Endgame Saga.
** Losing his original timeline, and everything in it, to King Shadow in the future.
** Lost his old friend Tommy Turtle during their final battle against ADAM.
** Lost a battle against Eggman after the latter destroyed Knothole and captured most of his friends and family.
** The worst of it occurs when Sally is roboticized after she prevented the world from suffering the same fate, Ixis Naugus takes over as the new king of New Mobotropolis, Antoine is critically injured, and Bunnie runs away, not to mention putting up with Silver's search for an alleged traitor in the team. He was certainly down as a result but, rather than give up, he and his remaining friends come up with a way to reform the Freedom Fighters.
* CasualDangerDialogue: He'll banter or even ''flirt'' in the middle of a fight. One example was his cracking jokes while [[PeoplePuppets being controlled by Eggman]] in the first Free Comic Book Day issue.
* ChickMagnet: Sally, Fiona, Amy, Mina; it seems that most girls are in love with him at one point or another. And unlike his games counterpart, he ''definitely'' doesn't try to [[ChasteHero avoid it.]]
* CoolPeopleRebelAgainstAuthority: As long as it's for what's right, he's willing to defy orders from Max, Elias, and even Sally to save the day. He comes to blows with Geoffery St. John most often due to their differences in this end goal. He's also ''way past cool''.
* DemotedToExtra: For a while[[note]]usually during Ken Penders' run[[/note]], it seemed like other characters like Knuckles were more important to the world of the comic than he was.
* DudeWheresMyRespect: He occasionally runs into this, where despite his numerous acts of heroism, King Max and Geoffrey St. John treat him with no respect and have no interest sending him out on missions, despite that he has list of heroic acts that would take too long to list.
* EasilyCondemned: Sonic has been framed more than once for turning on the Freedom Fighters, with usually all but a token handful (usually Tails or Uncle Chuck) being perfectly convinced he has betrayed them. While some of these schemes are very elaborate, you'd think the others would be aware of what deception Robotnik is capable of by now (especially since it's happened to them before too).
* EmbarrassingMiddleName: [[http://archive.is/8S0dX His middle name]] [[http://web.archive.org/web/20200311022329/https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-3bz43tg_pqM/Vtpz6QJhJLI/AAAAAAAAKZI/NKznPN_KZv8/s1600-Ic42/RCO008.jpg is Maurice]], and he hates it. He also hates his first name, which was never spoken in the comic. The Sonic Encyclopedia revealed that his full name is ''Olgilvie Maurice Hedgehog''.
* FightingYourFriend: Most of this consist of if his friends, or himself, are roboticized or mind controlled.
* HeroicSacrifice: Subverted. Has frequent brushes with death but, unlike [[spoiler: Knuckles]], Sonic has never died ''once''.
* {{Hypocrite}}: While he retains his "like the wind" ethics of the games counterpart, Sonic tends to be one of the Freedom Fighters most wary to others stepping out of line or not listening to him, in some cases bordering a tantrum prone ControlFreak. Add to that he has an inconsistent attitude to pacifism and forgiveness; while he has considered sympathy even for his mortal enemy, Eggman at times, he held a rather lengthy violent grudge against both Silver for his rather tasteless (and badly timed) approach to heroics and Knuckles for...[[TheRival just plain out not liking each other.]]
* InnocentlyInsensitive: He has his moments. For example, he, after his breakup with Sally, ends up pursuing a relationship with Fiona despite full knowledge of Tails' crush on her, leading to quite a strain on their friendship, which progressively gets worse when Tails' parents lead a VelvetRevolution; Sonic tactlessly criticizes Amadeus for leading an angry mob to Castle Acorn and calls it a stupid move right in front of Tails, dismissing Nicole's concerns over it and suggestion that they talk things out as they were "practically brothers" and would be fine. Later, when he tries to keep Amadeus in prison and Rosemary calls him out over his loyalties to Tails, Sonic smugly gloats that he and Tails grew up together, and that since Tails [[HeroWorshipper worships him]], he'll get over it; this is what pushes Tails to his RageBreakingPoint and triggers a massive fight between the two. Throughout the entire exchange, Sonic has no clue why Tails is so pissed at him until Tails flat-out screams it at him in a fit of rage; now knowing what it's all about, Sonic apologizes, explaining that he knew that Tails liked Fiona and that she had no interest in him so Sonic went out with Fiona to keep Tails from being hurt, while acknowledging that it was a spur of the moment thing done because he was still hurting over Sally, and he didn't think before he took action.
* JerkassRealization: He dates Fiona despite full knowledge of Tails' crush on her, both because he was hurting over his recent breakup with Sally, and because he knew that Fiona had no interest in him and he wanted to stop Tails from being hurt. Instead, it just heavily strains his friendship with Tails, Sonic unaware of just how angry and hurt Tails is over the mess until the tensions explode and lead to a physical fight between the two shortly after the destruction of Knothole. All the while, Sonic is confused and has no clue why Tails has such a beef with him until Tails flat-out screams it at him in a rage and chews him out over dismissing his feelings for Fiona and lack of sensitivity. It's at that moment Sonic realizes just how insensitive and selfish his choosing to date Fiona really was, and leads him to apologize and even offer to let Tails beat him up as payback.
-->'''Sonic''': I've been a jerk to you, man. I didn't mean it, but it doesn't change the fact that I was.
* {{Knighting}}: He was dubbed "Sir Sonic" by King Max at one point, only to be stripped of the title much later by his son, [the acting ruler] Elias Acorn.[[note]]Sonic had stolen the Sword of Acorns in a desperate attempt to save Uncle Chuck, only to lose it to Eggman's robots. As he failed to consult the Acorn family or find out how it worked, this punishment was likely justified. Then again, Geoffery guided Elias' temporary rule and recommended this.[[/note]] When offered to be reinstated some time after several heroics, Sonic declined, more interested in action than titles.
* LivingEmotionalCrutch: Sometimes shows psychological dependency on Sally, who constantly watches over his abrasive and reckless attributes (and, y'know, [[AwLookTheyReallyDoLoveEachOther he has a crush on her]]). Writers also have a fondness for letting horrible things happen to Sally in particular, in which cases Sonic's laid back demeanor very quickly cracks.
* ManlyTears: Has been known to shed a few tears now and then. Later enforced in the reboot that prevents him from doing this at all.
* MarriedInTheFuture: In the "X years future" arc, he's [[http://archive.is/h2dHb/5f0947acea1b54c53677f3730a8baf13523bb563.jpg married to Sally]] and [[http://archive.is/ssPN7/18423eb0fb7b80692ac98fb2277ef7156b7a844f.jpg has two children by her]].
* MistakenForDying: Though he survives some near-fatal adventures, his friends and family thought he had died more than once.
** [[spoiler:Issue 125 was easily the most dramatic as he stopped a doomsday device from destroying the planet. Everyone thought he was vaporized when he was really warped halfway across the universe. It took him a year (in Mobius time) to get back.]]
* NewPowersAsThePlotDemands: Sonic was prone to this in some of the earlier days of the comic, and it kept creeping in and out over the years. The most egregious example comes from the myriad ways the writers have abused his "Figure-8 Super Peel Out." He also fits trope due to his sizable amount of {{Super Mode}}s (see below).
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: Sometimes his actions may do more harm than good, even for the right reasons.
** He convinced [[http://archiesonic.wikia.com/wiki/E.V.E.#Battles_with_Sonic EVE]] to overcome her limitations, the latter heading into space. When they met again later, EVE revealed that she had destroyed numerous inhabited worlds across the galaxy. In fairness, EVE was going to kill Sonic until he convinced her otherwise, and EVE's rampage started in self-defense, before going into WellIntentionedExtremist territory. That and after Sonic made her realize the error of her ways, EVE gave Sonic one final bit of help before [[RedemptionEqualsDeath flying into a star.]]
* OfficialCouple: Ever since the earliest stories in the comic, the mutual crush between Sonic and Sally has been shown in [[http://archive.is/XMrB1/ba2a53ab7477ec5e5c9360912105e41d5b3f77b5.webp continual]], [[http://archive.vn/E81da/18563c963a994331010e46229c6e616a3e166ac6.jpg obvious]] [[http://archive.is/1W5EN/5c2d6a17c5aef586e34427487385d7b82b8117a4.png display]], despite constant, arguably excessive WillTheyOrWontThey throughout the history of the comic. In later issues, it's revealed that [[https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sonic_is_sallys_consort.jpg Sonic has become her]] [[HotConsort consort]], and the future stories confirm that they [[RelationshipUpgrade have children and rule Mobius together]].
* OnceDoneNeverForgotten: During one of his earliest missions, Sonic unknowingly left Fiona Fox behind in a remote prison while pursuing Robotnik, forcing her to break out herself. She's held a grudge against Sonic for his failure to save her for ''years'', and it's one of the main reasons she ends up [[LoveInterestTraitor defecting]] to Scourge, using Sonic as a "prime example" of why she can't count on or trust anyone. She initially confessed that she ''did'' eventually see Sonic as a valiant hero after his HeroicSacrifice to save Mobius from the Xorda, but that ultimately became an IgnoredEpiphany.
* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: When his parents return, they reveal his [[EmbarrassingMiddleName middle name]] is Maurice, but Sonic cuts them off before they reveal his first name; the Sonic Encyclopedia reveals his real name is Olgilvie Maurice Hedgehog. The Encyclopedia also reveals that he hates his real name so much that he actually had it legally changed to Sonic.
-->'''Sonic:''' The name is Sonic, '''''period'''''!
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: The story gets really serious when he puts aside all of his humor and quips if pushed to the brink.
** Losing virtually everything in the Endgame Arc is one prime example.
** After dealing with Silver's WindmillCrusader escapades at a ''very'' difficult time for the Freedom Fighter group, Sonic hits his RageBreakingPoint and violently warns him to stay the hell away from them. This proved not to be an isolated outburst either; when Silver appears later in the arc to make amends, a disgusted Sonic still sees red (complete with standard YouExclamation and LetMeAtHim tussling) until the others eventually convince him to listen. Given this is the guy who was laid back enough to reevaluate his grudges against ''Eggman'', it's telling Sonic does ''not'' take idle accusations towards his friends well.
* ParentalAbandonment: Sonic basically grew up without parental influence. Eventually, the Mobians turned into robots were freed of Robotnik's influence, and later most of them (saving Sonic's dad) were turned flesh again as well, and so he has since reunited with them, but the lack of supervision during his formative years causes Sonic's father some angst.
* PlotArmor: No matter how bad things get, Sonic is ''always'' [[TheGoodGuysAlwaysWin guaranteed to win in the end]] or eventually rebound from a short term defeat. It's eventually revealed to be an InUniverse case: according to Mammoth Mogul and Eggman, Sonic's long-term exposure to Chaos Energy has essentially made him an AnthropomorphicPersonification of Chaos, a living unknown factor; no matter how strong the bad guys get, no matter how ingenious their plans are, and no matter how far they calculate and plan, Sonic will win at the last minute. This has driven Mammoth Mogul to play the LongGame, using his {{immortality}} to his advantage to simply wait it out until Sonic dies of old age or just gets too old to fight, and is what led Eggman to create the [[RealityWarper reality warping]] Genesis Wave tech to have a way to counter it.
* RageBreakingPoint: Sonic usually keeps a cool head, but not even he is immune to this if pushed too far:
** The Endgame Arc (Issues 47-50) placed Sonic through the wringer. Sally was seemingly murdered, and Sonic was framed for the crime. He was immediately found guilty and sent to a high-security prison, only to escape while under attacked. He was then chased down and a few friends turned on him until Dulcy set the record straight. And just as he saved the day as usual, Robotnik used a doomsday weapon to destroy Knothole Village. This was more than enough for him to lose it and face his nemesis in [[FinalBattle one last battle]]. [[spoiler: Luckily, Knothole was just sent to a pocket dimension for several issues by Snively, who adjusted the weapon to only kill his uncle, and Sally wasn't dead after all.]]
** Issue 175 has him in an even more high-stakes bout with Eggman. This time, Knothole is burned to the ground, almost all of his friends and family are abducted, he's on the losing end more than usual and, perhaps just as serious, Eggman takes a jab at him "reaching his limit". Sonic retaliates, hard, but it ''still'' wasn't enough and lost brutally. [[spoiler: Luckily, he and his remaining friends save the day two issues later, and acquired a new home thanks to Nicole.]]
** By issue 235, Sonic has put up with a ''lot'' of crap, including Sally being roboticized and Antoine having been rendered comatose after saving Elias and the Acorns from Metal Sonic. When Silver shows up from the future, this time believing that Antoine himself is the traitor to the Freedom Fighters after [[InspectorJavert already having falsely accused Rotor and Sonic himself]], Sonic smashes through the wall of his house and literally drags Silver to the hospital to show him Antoine, proving that Silver's accusations are once again wrong. They then subsequently find a note from Bunnie stating that she had left to "make things right", upon which Silver begins to accuse Bunnie of being the traitor solely on the evidence that she left without telling anyone; Sonic finally blows his stack and gives Silver a ''major'' TheReasonYouSuckSpeech, declaring that there ''is'' no traitor, that he believes in his friends, and they're all much better heroes than [[HeroicWannabe a "flake" like Silver could]] ''[[HeroicWannabe ever]]'' [[HeroicWannabe hope to be]], before ordering him to just GetOut.
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: Sonic manages to combine this trope with [[DeadpanSnarker deadpan snarking]] and CasualDangerDialogue to great effect.
* RebuiltPedestal: With Silver by the final pre-reboot story. While Sonic's view of Silver, as mentioned above, was still ''incredibly'' coarse at first, after Silver apologises and explains his WindmillCrusader escapade is dealt with, Sonic (who initially blew that off too before Tails persuaded him), reluctantly agrees to work with him, ultimately forgiving him and even playfully congratulating him after he helps them capture the roboticised Sally. Incidentally this peacemaking would serve as the final interaction of the pre-reboot continuity.
* ScrewTheRulesImDoingWhatsRight: If it means saving his home, his friends, or his family, he ''will'' break the rules and butt heads with Sally and her father, regardless of the consequences.
** He even spells this out to the Acorn Council, especially in issue 224, when they're legitimately considering voting to let Ixis Naugus become king, and Sonic objects.
-->'''Sonic:''' No, no, '''''no''''''! He's the bad guy! I beat him up, and that's it!\
'''Hamlin:''' Oh, what a surprise! Mr. Hero here thinks he can do whatever he wants and ignore the authority of the council- ''again''!\
'''Sonic:''' I can and I will when you guys are being stupid!
* ShutUpHannibal: In issue 172, Scourge gloats to Sonic that the reason Sonic hates him so much is because he knows they're [[NotSoDifferentRemark not so different]] and that all it would take is "[[ComicBook/TheKillingJoke one bad day]]" to make Sonic just like him. Sonic turns it around by pointing out that all it would take is just a little kindness and selflessness to make Scourge just like ''him''; these words shock Scourge to his core, and lead him to embark on a quest to make himself more than just Sonic's EvilTwin, and Anti-Mobius more than just a MirrorUniverse.
-->'''Scourge:''' I've got you figured out. I know why you hate me. I know... And it's just not the Fiona thing or [[{{Narcissist}} that I'm better looking]]... It's that all it takes is one bad day, and you'd be just like ''me''.\
'''Sonic:''' No, that's not it, Scourge. It's because all it would take is a little bit of ''selflessness''... a little bit of ''decency''... And you'd be ''just like me''.
* SinsOfOurFathers: Issue 50 revealed his dad and uncle brought Julian Kintobor to King Max in the first place. That and they chased down a young Regina (the Iron Queen) sometime prior.
* SpannerInTheWorks: Commented on in-universe: Mammoth Mogul has realized that for whatever reason, he can't beat Sonic, so he'll stay out of the way until Sonic dies of old age. Eggman worked himself out of his insanity once he realized this, likening it to an unpredictable element in any experiment. He's rationalized that Sonic has ''become'' an element of chaos because of all the chaos energy he's been exposed to over the years.
* SuperMode: There's the usual Super Sonic, but the comic has added a few others to the mix:
** Ultra Sonic: Attained by absorbing a large number of Power Rings, giving him ElementalPowers and a couple other superpowers. He also has the ability to transform into the following terrain based variants:[[note]]Note that all three of these have only been seen once.[[/note]]
*** [[PlayingWithFire Solar Sonic]]
*** [[AnIcePerson Polar Sonic]]
*** [[GreenThumb Eco Sonic]]
*** All five of these forms were seen when Sonic was using a single Super Emerald, a reference to Hyper Sonic from Sonic 3 & Knuckles. This would suggest Sonic could obtain that form as well, except it would be ''far'' stronger than anything we've seen.[[note]]if a Super Emerald is the equivalent of roughly seven Chaos Emeralds, the whole set would be about ''50'', making Hyper Sonic '''''four times''''' more powerful than Enerjak or Master Mogul, the strongest opponents the book has shown. Bear in mind, either of those are considered multiverse level threats, so if Hyper Sonic really would be that strong, it'd basically require divine intervention to stop him.[[/note]]
* SympathyForTheDevil: When Eggman has a full-on nervous breakdown after Sonic defeats him in Issue 200, Sonic is at first bewildered by his old arch-nemesis' reaction, which quickly turns into outright concern when it becomes increasingly clear to him that Eggman just simply won't bounce back from this defeat as he usually does. In the aftermath, Sonic finds that he cannot help but feel sorry for Eggman when looking at the gibbering, crazy shadow of his former self he has been reduced to, and he realizes that he is actually feeling somewhat guilty for putting Eggman in that state. Of course, Eggman eventually regaining his sanity and launching an attack that ends with Sally being roboticized leaves Sonic regretting ''ever'' feeling sorry for the doc, and he ends up [[TookALevelInCynic Taking a Level in Cynic]].
* ATasteOfDefeat: While no villain has ever stopped him from saving the world, and he usually manages to bounce back from a short-term defeat, Sonic ''has'' had his ass handed to him on rare occasions. Most notably in issue 175, where Eggman breaks out his [[PoweredArmor Egg Beater]] armor, which is specifically designed to counter and defeat him; Sonic only manages to dent the shield the armor uses despite his best efforts, and Eggman beats him down both [[NoHoldsBarredBeatdown physically]] and [[TheReasonYouSuckSpeech mentally]].
* TookALevelInCynic: While the aforementioned breakdown from Eggman that led to the Iron Dominion arc led to conveying Sonic at his most idealistic and forgiving, the ensuing blow of Sally being robotocized as soon as Eggman regains his sanity leaves Sonic regretting ever feeling sorry for the monster, and the escalating blows and losses suffered against him, Naugus and even former comrades such as Geoffery has a very blatant toll on Sonic's spirit and temperament, showing far less restraint towards antagonists and even allies that cross him and his friends the wrong way. After Silver finally taps his RageBreakingPoint and leaves Sonic questioning his chances, he starts to catch himself and get back on the mend afterwards, though still never quite fully recovers until the effects of the reboot.
-->'''Scourge:''' All it takes is one bad day, and you'd be just like ''me''.
* TranslatorMicrobes: Sonic gained an alien implant during his interstellar trip back to Mobius, allowing him to understand all languages; even his dog's!
* VagueAge: Averted at first but later played straight. Sonic celebrates a birthday at one point relatively early in the series, where he is explicitly said to be 16. Later comics, however, quietly did away with this and played the trope straight instead. When Sonic is next seen celebrating his birthday, supposedly his 17th one, he and the guests at the party are all deliberately vague about his age. Sonic even makes [[LeaningOnTheFourthWall a pointed comment about this]], by asking his guests just to think of him as [[NotAllowedToGrowUp being in his teens "forever"]].
* WhatTheHellHero:
** Sonic has been on the recieving end of this now and then, mostly due to his constant use of DidntThinkThisThrough.
*** Among these was when he dated Tails’ crush Fiona sometime after his break up with Sally. Their tension boiled over to a full on fight, even after they saw her true colors, but they eventually made up.
** Gives a scathing one to Silver in issue 235. First, when Silver appears and declares that Antoine is the traitor that will destroy the Freedom Fighters, Sonic smashes through his house's wall and literally drags Silver to the hospital to show him the comatose Antoine and to explain that Antoine had previously pulled off a HeroicSacrifice to save the Acorn family and thus couldn't possibly be the traitor. It continues once they subsequently discover a note from Bunnie explaining that she had left to "make things right," and Silver quickly declares that ''Bunnie'' is the traitor based on the fact that she left without telling anyone; at this point, Sonic has finally had enough of Silver's InspectorJavert tendencies and snaps, furiously telling Silver that there ''is'' no traitor, that he trusts his friends, and that they're all bigger heroes than a "flake" like Silver could ever hope to be before ordering Silver to go home. When Silver tells him that he's TrappedInThePast, Sonic flat-out tells him to just go away.
* UnwillingRoboticization: In "Mecha Madness", where he was roboticised and turned against his friends, but was turned back to normal in the end. Then again, years later, by the BEM, though he retained his free will this time, as part of an experiment. As Mecha Sonic, the following tropes apply:
** {{Arm Cannon}}s: He has palm-based energy blasters in Mecha Sonic form.
** EyeBeams: He can also shoot lasers out of his eyes in Mecha Sonic form.
** {{Flight}}: The jet engines that allow Mecha Sonic to move at SuperSpeed can also propel him clean off of the ground, allowing him to fly.
** ShockAndAwe: In a pinch, Mecha Sonic can discharge high-voltage electricity through his metallic skin.
*** He undergoes robotizication again during ''ComicBook/SonicTheHedgehogMegaManWorldsUnite'' as Sonic Man.
* YearOutsideHourInside: Due to being tossed to the other edge of the universe and the whole relativity thing, the trip home, which had been a relatively short period of time for him, amounted to a year for his friends back on Mobius. This also makes him physically younger than the other Freedom Fighters his age.
* YouWouldntLikeMeWhenImAngry: He's a pretty chill guy, even in the most extreme of situations. But if you genuinely piss him off, he can be ''very'' intimidating. Threatening his friends and loved ones is an especially bad idea. For example, the Battle Bird Armada practically nuked New Mobotropolis trying to find the Babylon Gardens underneath it. When Sonic found out the Babylon Rouges were partially at fault and had no shred of empathy for the citizens. He was more than itching to lay the hurt on them. Circumstances prevented him from doing so but he did keep them from getting what they wanted, ending with this threat toward the trio in an [[TranquilFury eerily stoic tone]].
-->'''Sonic:''' My friends and family better be alright. Because if they aren't, you better ''pray'' you're faster than me!

!!Post-Reboot Tropes
* MoveInTheFrozenTime: It's not just enough that Sonic's fast enough to outrun the effects of Time Man's [[BulletTime Time Slow]], but when Flash Man activated [[TimeStandsStill Time Stopper]], Sonic was the ''only'' one besides Flash Man himself who could move with time frozen in place.
* MysteriousPast: Unlike his pre-reboot incarnation, Sonic is not a native citizen of the Kingdom of Acorn. All that was established about his past was that he showed up and joined the Freedom Fighters shortly after Eggman came into power.
* SuperpoweredEvilSide: Well, less "evil" and more "hard to control" but, unlike the video game ''VideoGame/SonicUnleashed'', his Werehog form counts. He eventually gets a handle on it after some training.
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: Though it hasn't been entirely consistent, he generally has an aversion to water. As you can imagine, he's not exactly thrilled when in one of the newer Post-Genesis Wave arcs he has to visit an underwater city.

[[folder:Miles "Tails" Prower]]
[[quoteright:300:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/68209d557a52e9d2c3d0c4512b930fa0.png]]

Sonic's best friend and sometimes-sidekick, Tails' earliest characterization suffered somewhat for being "the little kid who hero-worships Sonic and resents the other Freedom Fighters for babying him," and generally treated as more of an innocent in need of protection than an active asset to the team. Tails' first strike out at adventure on his own (where he met Fiona) was a rebellion in this spirit. Later issues worked to correct this by steadily upping his apparent maturity and skill with mechanics (which had the somewhat unintended consequence of rendering Rotor and Uncle Chuck redundant). Tails in the comics has also carried around the rather ambiguously defined title of "TheChosenOne," for a destiny he may or may not have fulfilled by this point. Least pre-Genesis Wave, Post-Wave seems have done away with this (as well as his parents who were Penders-made creations[[note]]Though is mother, Rosemary was made by Michael Gallagher[[/note]]) though he's still one of the main tech-heads of the Freedom Fighters.

Generally sweet and unassuming, Tails retains a good relationship with the other Freedom Fighters, who are still somewhat inclined to be protective of him -- which he is more embarrassed than angered by, these days.
----
* AgeLift: Tails starts out as ten and turns eleven later on. Tails in the games, however, is only eight years old.
* AppropriatedAppellation: Originally an insult when he was younger (mainly in the post-SGW universe), he later made it a cute nickname, especially since he can fly with them.
* BadassBookworm: Not only is he as smart as his ''Anime/SonicX'' counterpart, but in some more recent issues, he's put up awesome fights against the likes of Monkey Kahn and even Sonic himself.
** This is especially true post-SGW, as Tails now has ''all'' of his SEGA counterpart's skills and powers, being the only AlternateContinuity version of Tails to do so.
* BerserkButton: Slightly, mentioning his old days starting out as a Freedom Fighter. [[TagAlongKid He knows he wasn't quite ready at the time]] but he doesn't like being reminded of it (When Antonine innocently mentions it in one Sonic Universe issue, Tails has to restrain himself from shouting at him). Also still being called a kid, as his evil alternate counterpart, Miles, loves to do.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Tails' wrath is hard to incur, but even Sonic himself isn't safe from it when it does come out.
* CharacterizationMarchesOn: Thankfully. He went from annoying TagalongKid who disliked being in Sonic's shadow and frequently did stupid things to get out of it (nearly being robotocized for his efforts) to the two-tailed fox we all know and love.
* CheerfulChild: Constantly displayed as happy and excited.
* ChildProdigy: He has a knack for inventions like Rotor.
* TheChosenOne: Of a prophecy that was either fulfilled by his battle with Mogul (which [[FanonDiscontinuity we don't talk about]]), his merging of the Void with the Zone of Silence and moving all the Chaos Emeralds in the universe there (resulting in creating the [[ShoutOut Special Zone]]), or some as-of-yet unrevealed destiny.
* {{Doppelmerger}}: Issue #150 had Tails [[AllianceOfAlternates teaming up with all of his counterparts from across the multiverse]] to stop Master Mogul. They succeeded by merging into Titan Tails, a larger, more muscular version of Tails.
* DudeWheresMyRespect: Although he had a number of major victories or assists against Dr. Robotnik, his friends kept treating him as a ten-year-old. It wasn't until he defeated Crocbot that they made him a major member.
* {{Flight}}: He uses his tails to fly by twirling them like helicopter blades.
* GadgeteerGenius: Not shown as often as in other continuities, though.
* InnocentProdigy: While highly intelligent, his childlike perceptive shows up several times, especially in early stories.
* LightningBruiser: Post-reboot, Tails had all the abilities of his SEGA counterpart, making him this.
* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: Everyone calls him "Tails". His future counterpart and Moebius EvilCounterpart go by their real name "Miles", however.
* OnlySaneMan: In issue 247, when Silver reappears, still on his crusade to find the traitor in the Freedom Fighters, considering his previous InspectorJavert tendencies and how he nearly killed Sonic and Rotor under the believe they were said traitor, nobody, especially not Sonic, is happy to see him and initially refuse to listen to him at all. Tails, however, convinces them to hear what Silver has to say. After he badly words the discovery that Sally was the future "traitor", Tails is savvy enough to restrain an outraged Sonic and Amy from attacking Silver so he can further explain, though warning him he "better be going somewhere with this."
* ParentalAbandonment: Par for the course among the Freedom Fighters, although Tails' parents weren't ''just'' turned into robots -- they were [[AlienAbduction abducted by aliens]]. He's since reunited with them.
* PunnyName: Miles Prower -> "miles per hour".
* RageBreakingPoint: Tails' friendship with Sonic had been left rather rocky since the latter dated Fiona. After getting embroiled in his parents' warring with the Acorns, Sonic attempts to help keep them incarcerated. When called out over his loyalties to Tails, he gloats he's close enough with him that it will pass. Tails, who was secretly helping his parents and overheard, finally snaps and attempts to beat the living daylights out of Sonic, laying out all their previous hardships to him while doing so.
* TheResenter: While Sonic was with Fiona.
* UndyingLoyalty: Tails has had a serious fallout with Sonic only once without any influences. Otherwise he has sticked by his side even times other allies have doubted him. Whenever Sonic has been EasilyCondemned he is also usually among the few to always believe his innocence.
* {{Yandere}}: Following the fallout between him and Fiona, he finally lost it when [[spoiler: Sonic untimely snarked and offended his family.]] Thankfully, he easily forgives him when they talked it out about the girl.

[[labelnote:Click here to see her pre-Genesis Wave design]]https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sally_acorn_archie_sonic_girls_18101999_200_345_1.jpg[[/labelnote]]]]

Daughter of the deposed king Maximillian Acorn, Princess Sally led the Freedom Fighters through their time of exile after the coup and saw her father, and subsequently her brother, re-ascend the throne after Robotnik's demise. For quite some time she was Heir Presumptive, and retired from field duties, but she has since reassumed her post after Elias was crowned instead. Sally was roboticized and transformed into "Mecha Sally", who was then weaponized and turned against her friends by Eggman.

Following the [[ComicBook/SonicTheHedgehogMegaManWorldsCollide reboot]], she was never altered and is still an active member of the Freedom Fighters, though what she does remember of her tenure as Mecha Sally haunts her greatly. Most of her origin story is still intact save for her mother and brother, the former who died and the latter who no longer exists.

Sally is courageous, but also intelligent, pragmatic, and patient; often serving as a {{foil}} to the more assertive and bull-headed Sonic, and has an on-again-off-again relationship with him. While she's generally level-headed, she can be just as impetuous and stubborn as Sonic at times.
----
!!Tropes Applying to Both Versions
* ActionGirl: The main Leader of the Freedom Fighters.
* AppropriateAnimalAttire: Pre-Genesis Wave, Sally wears very little clothing; her typical outfit is just an open jacket and boots. This is because in ''WesternAnimation/SonicTheHedgehogSatAM'', which the comic was originally based on, [[IntelligentGerbil Mobians]] as a species [[NoNudityTaboo didn't seem to have a nudity taboo of any kind.]] [[note]]Far and away most Mobians (male and female) would wear [[http://archive.is/XkrOH no clothing at all,]] or whatever they specifically need for a job; Freedom Fighters often wear [[http://archive.is/nQbX1 bandoleers, gloves, boots, and nothing else.]] Only very few Mobians wore the "normal" amount of clothing for a human.[[/note]] As a result, character designs based on the ''[=SatAM=]'' style -- Sally among them -- also wear little clothing. Other female Mobians with a similar clothing sense include [[http://archive.is/15Un7 Fiona Fox]], [[http://archive.is/XCxgZ Barby Koala]], and [[http://archive.is/TAm1Q Liza the Chameleon]]. Averted in the Post-Genesis Wave series, where she gains a midriff-baring top and shorts along with the classic vest and boots.
* AscendedExtra: She was based on one of the animals (Ricky the squirrel) that were freed from the [[MechaMooks badniks]] in the original game.
* TheComicallySerious: Often when paired against Sonic, though she is often more jovial than most examples.
* CoolBigSis: She's developing into this towards Cream showing that, while she knows Cream wants to help out, she knows she's not ready to handle things. She also has moments of being this to some of the other younger Freedom Fighters like Tails and Amy.
* DeadpanSnarker: When not trying to be polite, Sally can be ''very'' sarcastic, using verbally cutting remarks to express her irritation.
* DisappearedDad: Her father was cast into the Void ten years ago when Robotnik took over Mobotropolis.
* DamselInDistress: Like Amy, she is still a pivotal hero, but also one of the villains' favorite hostage choices.
* DivergentCharacterEvolution: "Sally Acorn" started as the western name for the [[https://sonic.fandom.com/wiki/Ricky Ricky]], one of the WoodlandCreatures Sonic would rescue from Dr. Eggman in ''VideoGame/SonicTheHedgehog1''. Several decades and adaptations later, the princess of the Acorn kingdom is all but unrecognizable next to her origins.
* [[TheEveryman The Everygirl]]: Borderline example, despite her role as Princess, Sally is arguably the nearest to "normal" in terms of personality compared to most of her wackier comrades (her earlier depictions are slightly more pompous and clownish in their own right however).
* FatalFlaw: To some degree, Hypocrisy and temper. A lot of conflicts and communication issues involving Sally are based on her insistence on pragmatic thinking and her acerbic inability to relate to the impulses of others, even when she herself has committed the same actions multiple times herself. Her conflicts with the Acorn Council (that ''she'' inducted), and her many ''many'' arguments with Sonic over his own flaw of Recklessness or making emotion based decisions are key examples. Not that Sally is specifically egomaniacal or can't admit to many of her errors, but she has a recurrent inability to see how harder it is to practice than to preach, even after repeated first hand experience.
* FieryRedhead: Technically, she has brown hair, but its reddish tinge and her own fiery temper fit the stereotype.
* FlawlessToken: Occasionally leans as this due to her WomenAreWiser personality and prominent role. While several stories in recent years have attempted to tone this down and make her more fallible, her flaws and quirks are still not as defined as many other heroes, her characterization still largely a more intelligent and dignified foil for her team mates.
* {{Foil}}:
** Largely to Sonic, her cautious and uptight personality contrasting Sonic's brash and reckless persona.
** Also to Amy. Both are interested in Sonic on a romantic level, but Sonic actually shows some level of affection back for Sally sometimes, whereas with Amy, it is mostly a one-sided thing.
** Both share a similar arrogance and ego that only fuels their bickering more.
* FurryFemaleMane: As the most prominent female character in the Freedom Fighters team, she sports a distinctive hairstyle to help emphasize that she's female.
* GratuitousPrincess: She's always clung to the title of Princess, despite being the sole remaining Monarch of Mobius known to be alive for an extended period of time. This is a [[AdaptationPersonalityChange direct contrast]] to her personality in ''WesternAnimation/SonicTheHedgehogSatAM'', who [[DontCallMeSir didn't like the title.]]
* HartmanHips: Seeing as she's both MsFanservice ''and'' TeamMom, this is kind of inevitable.
* HonoraryAunt: To Tails, who calls her "Aunt Sally".
* HumanoidFemaleAnimal: It was a trend to draw her this way during the mid-era of the Archie comics. Artists Steven Butler, J. Axer and Patrick "Spaz" Spaziante [[MsFanservice are especially known for their "suggestive" versions of Sally.]] Despite her [[HumanoidFemaleAnimal more humanoid shape]], [[NonhumansLackAttributes there is nothing visible beyond her fur]]; the most at any time being [[ExposedAnimalBellybutton her navel]].
* LethalChef: Stated by WordOfGod that in Post-Genesis Wave comics she is a terrible cook and that a salad with nuts is the only edible thing she can make. Proven in-universe when she attempts to make Dr. Ellidy soup, using his household plants as herbs.
* LikeParentLikeChild: Played with. While Sally is generally depicted as a ''much'' better strategist than Max, she shares his tendency to [[ATragedyOfImpulsiveness make hasty or irrational decisions when under stress or impulse]].
* MsFanservice: depending on the artist brought to draw the issue of the month, she was draw with [[BarbieDollAnatomy very curvy proportions]], to the point is justified to some why she was later clothed in the reboot (See HartmanHips above and PantslessMalesFullyDressedFemales down below).
* MoralMyopia: She very regularly chastises Sonic or other Freedom Fighters for taking headfirst approaches against enemy forces, though routinely makes impulsive or spontaneous manoeuvres when pressured herself. An interesting variation, since while in several cases where these backfire, she ''does'' admit she was wrong afterwards, she still ''never'' correllates these moments to any of Sonic's, always assuming he is just being a reckless showboater. Even after the "Spark of Life" arc, where she has a heart to heart over ''NICOLE's'' hypocrisy concerning her own recklessness, Sally lacks any self-awareness when criticising Sonic.
* NonHumanHumanoidHybrid: In the original lore, Sally was described as being a squirrel/chipmunk hybrid who took after her chipmunk mother. This was then tweaked to Mobian breeding being a case of GenderEqualsBreed: her parents consist of [[InterspeciesRomance a male tree squirrel and a female chipmunk]], so Sally is a chipmunk and her brother is a squirrel. Finally, it was retconned that she's a ground squirrel.
* OnlySaneMan: Definitely has traits of this at times, especially when frustrated by Sonic.
* PantslessMalesFullyDressedFemales: Originally averted in Sally's case, which makes her seem somewhat [[NonStandardCharacterDesign unusual]] among the female cast, especially today. Later played straight after the reboot arc.
* RightlySelfRighteous: Sally in many circumstances comes off as [[DeadpanSnarker condescending]], impatient and sometimes [[HypocriteHasAPoint even contradictory of her own criticisms]]. As the likes of the Council of Acorn discovered however, it was hard to really put her on the spot over this since most of the time it was her strategies that got results and led to the Freedom Fighters saving the day. After the character started to gain scorn for this trope and her overbearing qualities [[KarmaHoudini never being rebuked]], the later comics started to show her coming to terms with making bad decisions more often, though this trope is still generally the norm for her.
* RoyalBrat: Leaned as a [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold light example]] in the earlier comedic issues. As the comic took a more serious tone she became near anything but (though it doesn't stop villains such as Snively mocking her as such).
* RoyalsWhoActuallyDoSomething: Has joined her fellow Freedom Fighters on various missions since the beginning. This is especially exemplified in the post-Super Genesis Wave world when King Acorn gives his blessing for her to keep fighting with the Freedom Fighters.
* SnarkToSnarkCombat: Her and Sonic sometimes engage in this.
* TaremeEyes: For her modern design, earlier on they were reversed into TsurimeEyes.
* TeamMom: More so in the earliest days of the series; she tended to be the most mature and responsible member of the Freedom Fighters, comforting them with her "motherly" attitude and protecting them as if they were her children.
* TeenGenius: More so in the earlier parts of the series, but when the Freedom Fighters were starting out, Sally was their predominant computer and technology expert; this trait was passed over more to Rotor, [=NICOLE=] and Tails as the series progressed.
* TheChainsOfCommanding: Often takes command of her team and throne when the need arises, though she ends up losing both just as much. Most in the old continuity were due to the undermining of her father in the name of tradition. The new continuity allowed her to lead the Freedom Fighters while her dad watches over the kingdom; the latter much more understanding due to his health.
* TomboyPrincess: She's had to fight for her throne as a [[LaResistance resistance fighter]] for 10 years. As a result, she has no problem getting her hands dirty. She's an expert martial artist and acrobat, and is good with a firearm.
* TooCleverByHalf: While still highly intelligent in early issues, she had far greater superiority complex and arrogance that rivaled [[SmallNameBigEgo Sonic's]]. While this still appears every now and again, it is ''far'' more subtle. She also is keenly aware that she's logical, even when it's a huge inconvenience or limits her ability - something she discovers [[spoiler: while digitized, helping Nicole.]]
* TookALevelInBadass: Compared to her incarnation in ''WesternAnimation/SonicTheHedgehogSatAM'', she is far more physically powerful, to the point that she can fight one-on-one with a SWAT-bot and win.
* TrueBlueFemininity: Inverted. The most prominent colour in her wardrobe is blue, both before and after the reboot, but she's probably the most tomboyish of all the girls in the Freedom Fighters.
* WellExcuseMePrincess: With Sonic.

!!Pre-Reboot Tropes
* AccessoryWearingCartoonAnimal: Sally is notable for being one of very few females [[note]]Some including [[http://archive.is/15Un7 Fiona Fox]], [[http://archive.is/XCxgZ Barby Koala]], and [[http://archive.is/TAm1Q Liza the Chameleon]][[/note]] to fully avert PantslessMalesFullyDressedFemales (by virtue of EarlyAdaptationWeirdness), wearing nothing more than a pair of boots and later an open vest. She appeared like this for most of the comics' run, to the point that her attire became TheArtifact.
* BoyishShortHair: Her hair only comes down to her neck, and she is TomboyPrincess.
* BreakoutCharacter: Had more of a supporting role in early Archie. Arguably as prominent a character as Sonic himself later on. This is even more evident counting her earlier background as a minor captive in the games.
* BreakTheCutie: Losing her kingdom and family as a kid and leading a resistance ever since, not to mention balancing her personal and love lives, can be incredibly taxing. Sometimes even [[HeroicBSOD too much]].
* BattleCouple: Whenever she fights alongside Sonic.
* TheChainsOfCommanding: Her responsibilities as heir to the Acorn line is, at worse, chaotic. Most times her leadership is stripped and undermined by her father due to tradition.
* CharacterizationMarchesOn: Similar to her [[WesternAnimation/SonicTheHedgehogSatAM animated counterpart]], Sally was initially developed more as a [[{{Hypocrite}} hypocritical equal to Sonic]], and could frequently act rather [[SmallNameBigEgo egotistical]], moody and [[ControlFreak bossy]]. As the series took [[CerebusSyndrome a more serious turn]], Sally mellowed out greatly, to the point of being the most consistently mature and serious minded Freedom Fighter of the main team.
** Throughout Ian Flynn's tenure, Sally has also become less acerbic and cautious, gaining Sonic's penchant for acting on impulse and emotion. This has become even more apparent post reboot.
* {{Chickification}}: The latter Bollers/Penders era saw her increasingly falling victim to this, as she went from being a FrontlineGeneral ActionGirl to often playing a more passive role and being relegated to the sidelines.
* CompressedVice: Writers have frequently tried to make Sally more flawed in reply to complaints of her superiority. A lot of her shortcomings however tend not to stick or conflict with her more constant personality. Her occasional bouts of recklessness (something she usually foils Sonic over) is a glaring example.
* ControlFreak: Had shades of this in the earlier more comical issues, usually butting heads with the reckless and free spirited Sonic as a result. This was diluted as the stories matured, the rare occasion she delves back in this trope are more PlayedForDrama. Somewhat justified due to the comic's increasing CerebusSyndrome, with the increased sense of threat and vulnerability within the Freedom Fighters making it harder to portray Sally as a comically persnickety character and anything less than perfectly justified in not wanting to take unnecessary risks.
* CreateYourOwnVillain: Sally creates the Council of Acorn to compromise between the monarchy and the Prower's push for democracy. This ends up working against her when some of the members she inducts prove to be {{Obstructive Bureaucrat}}s too cautious and no-risks in their decision-making for even ''her'' liking, along with members such as Hamlin proving to hold grudges when she and the Freedom Fighters overrule or ignore them, technically holding the power to prosecute them for treason.
* EarlyInstallmentWeirdness: Her various alternate color schemes (dark brown fur/blonde hair, pink fur/black hair) from the first issues of the series were retconned into a result of a chemical vat accident.
* ExposedAnimalBellybutton: Zig-zagged example. In her more "[[FanservicePack anatomically-correct]]" appearances (typically by Steven Butler), Sally was often drawn with a more detailed stomach, complete with her navel visible through her fur. In most of her other appearances though (as seen above), it doesn't usually appear.
* HeroicSacrifice: Causing herself to get roboticized to prevent Eggman from doing it to the entire planet.
* TheHighQueen: Grows up to be this in the "Mobius: 30 Years Later" storyline.
* {{Hypocrite}}: When Sonic chooses freedom fighting over staying with her, she accuses him of being selfish. Granted, she had nearly lost Sonic twice due to the latter injuring himself a second time, and she wanted to protect him from doing something stupid, but it was still uncalled for.
** She has also had recurring (and increasing) displays of being reckless and impulsive, despite constantly chiding Sonic for such methods.
* ImportantHaircut: Following the TimeSkip in the "Home" arc, Sally was depicted with long hair from issue 130, giving her a notably more feminine appearance, something which (especially in retrospect) became quite symptomatic of the {{Chickification}} her character underwent at the time. During issue 177, she asks Bunnie for a haircut, and goes back to her original short-haired tomboy look to signify her CharacterRerailment.
* InnocentProdigy: In earlier issues, Sally was still intelligent but somewhat bratty tempered. Toned down in later issues where she arguably [[WomenAreWiser the most mature]] of the main Freedom Fighters.
* IntimateMarks: Her Royal Birthmark (only mentioned, not seen) is ''[[http://archive.is/rJskc very heavily implied]]'' to be located in a private area. It's notably [[FurIsClothing not visible at any time despite her minimal clothing.]]
* JerkassBall: She's usually a nice girl, but she tends to act this way when she loses rationality through stress, such as slapping Sonic across the face and calling him selfish after the latter chose to - [[FearlessFool while handicapped]] - continue the fight against Eggman instead of ruling the Kingdom with her, culminating in her essentially dumping him over the matter in front of everyone in Knothole. It should be remembered that this took place after [[FreudianExcuse she'd suffered through a year of believing that Sonic had died.]]
* KillTheCutie: As a leader of a resistance force, and fighting an ongoing war, there were obviously many attempts at her life. The biggest examples were [[DisneyDeath #47]] and #225 (both of which were miraculously undone).
* MarriedInTheFuture: In the "X years future" arc, she's [[http://archive.is/h2dHb/5f0947acea1b54c53677f3730a8baf13523bb563.jpg married to Sonic]] and [[http://archive.is/ssPN7/18423eb0fb7b80692ac98fb2277ef7156b7a844f.jpg has two children by him]].
* MamaBear: She punched Fiona Fox in the stomach for trying to manipulate Tails' feelings again.
-->'''Sally:''' You've already toyed with him ''quite'' enough. If you want to deal with us, then ''deal''.
* OnceDoneNeverForgotten: In issue 134, after Sonic declines helping her run the kingdom in favor of continuing the fight with Eggman, Sally responds by slapping him, lambasting him for being selfish, and essentially dumping him right in front of ''everybody in Knothole''. Several call-backs to this moment are made, with it being made clear Sally regrets being so harsh; she even turns down a chance to start a romance with Monkey Khan for this reason, acknowledging she reacted badly and was unfair to Sonic.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: Issue 134, Sally offers Sonic the opportunity to rule Mobius at her side. Sonic replies that he can't, since he needs to fight Eggman instead. [[FearlessFool He was quite injured and in no condition to fight at the time]], to say nothing of the fact that [[ViolationOfCommonSense being King doesn't disqualify him from fighting threats to the Kingdom.]] In response, [[AngerBornOfWorry Sally was so distraught]] that she actually lost her characteristic calm and [[RageBreakingPoint smacked him across the face]].
* RoboticReveal: Originally, it was planned for it to be eventually revealed that Sally had been DeadAllAlong since the Endgame arc and that the one we've seen since then is a robotic clone that did a HeelFaceTurn. This was scrapped due to ExecutiveVeto.
* ScrewDestiny: Sally was once possessed by the Sword of Acorns, who constantly took over her body and filled her with visions, despite her rejecting the Source of All. While the Sword [[YouCantFightFate refused to take "no" for an answer]], Sally opted to hand the Sword over to the children of Uma Arachnis when they came looking for it.
* SitcomArchNemesis: Became one for Fang the Sniper after an infamous GroinAttack, leaving him incensed on taking her out in particular. He even lampshaded his [[CurbstompBattle recurring humiliations]] [[IWasBeatenByAGirl against her]], despite being a genuine threat against Sonic himself.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: She looks almost [[GenerationXerox identical to her mother]], Queen Alicia Acorn.
* TheyKilledKennyAgain: A frequent victim of "fatal" incidents, from near-lethal injuries to being robotocized, all in the name of drama.
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: Sally is the heroic tomboy to Fiona Fox's villainous girly girl. Sally is a TomboyPrincess who has a very unfeminine appearance ([[PantslessMalesFullyDressedFemales at least in apparel]]), and is a character especially divergent from stereotypes associated with females. Fiona does have a pretty rough attitude and her appearance isn't completely girly, but the bow and skirt still make it more so than Sally's. Also, Fiona is a FemmeFatale and TheVamp who uses her feminine charms to manipulate male characters like Tails, much to the annoyance and disgust of Sally, who once gave Fiona a violent gut punch for doing this.
* UnwillingRoboticisation: Willfully became a robot ''twice'', thus inverting the trope.
** Attempted to infiltrate Robotropolis under roboticization while using a chip that can keep her in control, but Robotnik removed it, allowing him to control her at the time. Dulcy saved the day with a device that changed her back to normal.
** Years later when she sacrificed herself to prevent Eggman's Death Egg [=MkII=] from roboticizing the world.
* WomenAreWiser: In later issues. It was initially balanced by [[NotSoAboveItAll occasional bouts of arrogance and childishness equal to Sonic.]]
* YouAreWorthHell: In 230, she has the choice to invert the "World Roboticizer", or not and be trapped in a world controlled by Eggman with Sonic. She hesitates before she does the former.

!!!Tropes associated with Sally's "Mecha Sally" persona:
* AmuletOfDependency: Eggman has made it so that she depends on a Power Ring to function. It makes her more powerful, but once it's depleted, Sally herself will go off-line and "die."
* BladeBelowTheShoulder: One on each arm. She got these in her gloves in the reboot.
* DeflectorShields: Uses this to astonishing effect.
* EnergyWeapon: One concealed in her hair, of all places.
* FemmeFatalons: Has these weaponized.
* FlyingBrick: Becomes this after being weaponized.
* KnightOfCerebus: The story arcs involving her are noticeably dark.
* SuperStrength: Standard for any robotized mobian.
* TheStrategist: Retains her natural tactical brilliance, however, no longer being bogged down by emotions or ethics allows it to be even more effective.
* TookALevelInBadass: In addition of getting robotized, Eggman went a step further and weaponized her; granting abilities beyond a regular robian.
* TookALevelInJerkass: The reprogramming Eggman did gave her an evil personality, as part of an attempt to undo everything the Princess accomplished before roboticization and be ''proud'' of it. It went as petty as bullying and belittling Sonic and their friends, and reject their friendship. Tails reminded Amy that everything she says is because of Eggman and not her. Post-SGW Sally remembered all of this, distraught about "what she said" as much as "what she did".

!!Post-Reboot Tropes
* TheAtoner: She showed signs of this once her memories of the old timeline, including her tenure as Mecha Sally, but [[DefiedTrope Nicole snapped her out of it.]]
* BerserkButton: Sally has seen the AI Nicole evolve so far beyond her original programming, she not only sees her as another Mobian and fellow Freedom Fighter, but another life worth fighting for and the closest thing to family next to her father. So don't '''EVER''' tell her otherwise, as Dr. Ellidy made that mistake despite being under Dark Gaia's influence at the time.
* BladeBelowTheShoulder: The reboot gave her a pair of bracelets that can manifest blades similar to those she had as Mecha Sally. They were sent to her by Dr. Ellidy, Nicole's creator.
* ChronicHeroSyndrome: Saving the day comes with the territory of being a Freedom Fighter, but Sally tends to be reckless because of it. Due to leading her team since childhood, she can not stand the thought of standing still if someone is in trouble and
* CustomUniformOfSexy: Her redesign. Emphasized at one point when she discards her jacket. Bare-midriff brawler who is part of a group of freedom-fighters? [[VideoGame/FinalFantasyVII She's basically Tifa as a redheaded chipmunk.]]
* HeroicBSOD: Suffers one when she learns of her actions as Mecha Sally in the post-Super Genesis Wave world. It takes NICOLE and Cream to snap her out of it when they go save citizens in Station Square.
* LaserBlade: Her Ring-Blades. Carried over from her Metal Sally form the old Continuity. In the new one, she received these from Ellidy.
* MissingMom: In the Post Genesis Wave Timeline, it is impled that her mother died sometime after she was born, and she has little to no memory of her.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: Her reaction after receiving the memories from her Pre-Genesis Wave life (particular the ones when she was under Eggman's control as Mecha Sally) is horrified remorse.
-->'''Sally''': ...tried to start a war... things I said... things I ''did''... almost... murdered...
* TakeAThirdOption: Often tries to find the best option with as few, or no, casualties or collateral damage on the heroes' end as possible. She gets called out on this trope by Egg Boss Clove.

Built by a future incarnation of Rotor, [=NICOLE=] is an an ArtificialIntelligence sent to Sally in the past from her future self in a StableTimeLoop, but her origins are obscured from the others in the present (as well as to the viewers of the modern-day, considering how convoluted the time travel plots have gotten since her introduction). Loyal, intelligent (obviously), occasionally playful or sarcastic [=NICOLE=] has always evidenced aspects of personality, but her prominence in the series skyrocketed once she outgrew her handheld and learned to project herself into a solid form as a Lynx. [=NICOLE=] and her {{nanite}}s are responsible for the construction of New Mobotropolis, but the populace's initial gratitude has turned to fear once it became apparent that her technological basis left her vulnerable to {{Magitek}} -- and that under the influence she would turn the city against its citizens. After being exiled for her so-called "crimes", [=NICOLE=] was recruited by Harvey Who to aid the Secret Freedom Fighters.

Following the reboot, the nanite city of New Mobotropolis has been replaced by the restored city of Mobotropolis. To compensate for the loss of the nanites, Nicole can project her holographic form by simply by attaching a power ring to her handheld unit. She now works in the field with the Freedom Fighters. In this continuity, Nicole was created by Dr. Ellidy, a scientist in the service of the Kingdom of Acorn, and given as a gift to a young Princess Sally. [[spoiler: Later backstory reveal that she was the result of Ellidy trying to upload the brain of his terminally ill daughter, Nikki. It didn't seem to work, but the comic implies that, through Nicole's interaction with the Freedom Fighters, that it was successful just took awhile for her personality to come to the forefront.]]
----
!!Tropes Applying to Both Versions
* ArtificialIntelligence: An unambiguously benevolent one, NICOLE is the resident tech expert for the Freedom Fighters. This is invaluable against someone like Eggman, who relies on tech for his plans.
* AscendedExtra: She's been around almost since the beginning, but #151's "Stargazing" set her on a track that led from "occasional prop" to "front-line Freedom Fighter" by giving her a character design and a body she could use outside of a handheld computer.
* BrainyBrunette: She is a super-smart artificial intelligence, and once she gains a digital form, she appears as a brown-haired lynx.
* FurryFemaleMane: Her digital form sports a distinctive hairstyle, to emphasize her "female" nature.
* GrewBeyondTheirProgramming: In both continuities, she starts out as nothing much then a standard computer program that keeps the cast updated on Eggman. Eventually, she started to gain more of a personality till eventually she created a body of her own in a desire to interact more directly with the cast. After which, she had pretty much gained sentience, and is now a fully fleshed out character in her own right.
* MyNaymeIs: Her name is spelled two ways -- all-caps and normally. This is used to differentiate between the two different entities that share the name. "NICOLE" in all-caps refers to the computer itself. "Nicole" in CamelCase is the actual "soul", or the lynx who inhabits this computer, that has ArtificialIntelligence which GrewBeyondTheirProgramming.
* ProjectedMan: She alternates between a real body constructed of nanites and a holographic projection. The latter is much less labor-intensive to sustain. Post-reboot, she instead used power rings to create a solid form. Turned up a notch following [[spoiler: the use of the red-star ring, which is implied to have changed the way she can physically interact with the world and possibly allow her to "feel"; overlaps with Pinocchio Syndrome]].
* StealthPun: A lot of fans believe that the choice of a lynx as the species of her mobian form was a tongue in cheek reference by the writers to a hand-held video game system from Atari called the 'Lynx'.

!!Pre-Reboot Tropes
* AllOfTheOtherReindeer: After being restored to normal after being brainwashed by the Iron Queen, she loses the trust of the Mobotropolis populace, and eventually is forcibly confined into a single small computer.
* BarefootCartoonAnimal: Her furry form had various outfits pre-Wave, all of which cover the entire torso, but none of which give her any footwear.
* BreakTheHaughty: Downplayed. While NICOLE was never flat-out arrogant, her new form and vivid powers bestowed via nanite technology granted her a rather confident personality, something which cost her after she carelessly boasted in open shot of the Iron Queen ([[BullyingTheDragon a techno mage no less]]). The repercussions of her being corrupted into a deadly servant for the Iron Queen's conquest, and becoming a feared pariah among the people she cares for leave NICOLE a remorseful, heartbroken recluse.
* DeadpanSnarker: Tends to deliver some sass to the team. Mellows out thanks to CharacterDevelopment.
* TheExile: In several issues prior to the reboot, thanks to Naugus using his HatePlague to turn all of New Mobotropolis against her, the Council of Acorn is forced to banish Nicole from the city and to Freedom HQ. After several more attacks on the city courtesy of Eggman, along with said HatePlague waning, Mina is able to get enough support from the people for the Council to allow her to return.
* HeroicBSOD: She could barely talk to anyone after Sally was roboticized and herself exiled. It wasn't until Mina talked to her and apologized for her actions that she was able to open up again.
* HeroWithBadPublicity: Got hit with this before the reboot thanks to The Iron Queen taking control of her and turning her against the citizens she wanted to protect. It's only made worse when Mina, having been traumatized by the occupation, tried to use her songs to spread messages warning about it to ensure that Nicole couldn't be BrainwashedAndCrazy again, only for Ixis Naugus to use his HatePlague to amplify the fear and hatred of Nicole brought about by both the songs and the Iron Queen's actions to turn the entire city against Nicole and get her banished from New Mobotropolis altogether. By issue 241, however, the HatePlague begins to wane, and Mina is able to get enough public support to allow Nicole back in.
* TheMindIsAPlaythingOfTheBody: Swapping bodies with Sally causes Nicole to gain Sally's feelings for Sonic.
* {{Nanomachines}}: She made extensive use of them, creating an entire city after Knothole was destroyed.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: Her eyes changed from green to red when she was brainwashed during the Iron Dominion storyline.
* SilkHidingSteel: Not so much in her earliest appearances (she once ''shocked'' Sonic in retribution for shaking her), but since obtaining her lynx form she's been nothing but shy, sweet, and nurturing... when she's not BrainwashedAndCrazy.
* ThatMakesMeFeelAngry: Occasionally, as she finds this helpful when it comes to dealing with her emotions.
-->'''Nicole (after recovering from [[BrainwashedAndCrazy brainwashing]]):''' I have already [[MyGodWhatHaveIDone downloaded logs of my previous actions]]. I am...furious? Mortified? Emotions are difficult to label when you actually experience them.
* TookALevelInBadass: She gradually works to bring the Nannite horde under control and then uses them to become New Mobotropolis. With the wealth of Power she draws from the former irradiated capital, NICOLE had considerable power, being able to fend off Robotnik with ease and manipulate the nanites into strong offensive and defensive weapons.
* WeHaveBecomeComplacent: A large pivot to her fateful BrainwashedAndCrazy arc was her and Freedom Fighters becoming too overconfident about NICOLE's security over New Mobotropolis after easily tanking multiple villain invasions, to the point no one thought to take precautions against the Iron Queen, ''a techno mage'', until it was too late, leading NICOLE to get corrupted, New Mobotropolis to be temporarily conquered, and the populace to lose trust with NICOLE and the Freedom Fighters control over her. Sally to her credit, lampshades her own carelessness over the matter, though still thinks the civilians were harsh to NICOLE about it.

!!Post-Reboot Tropes
* BrainUploading: [[spoiler:Nicole's programming was based on the mind of Dr. Ellidy's terminally ill daughter Nikki, in a last-ditch, ultimately unsuccessful attempt to save her. Or at least that's what he thinks, the comic seems to imply that it ''did'' work but wasn't as instantaneous as he wanted. [[GaveUpTooSoon So he deemed it a failure]] and gave the computer to Sally whose interactions with Nicole brought up more of her personality, with it presumed that this is Nikki but "reborn" in a sense.]]
* SuperMode: [[spoiler:Overclocked Nicole in the new universe. Triggered when she uses the power of a Red Ring. Still a bit unstable to use at the moment however.]]

Bunnie has an outgoing but gentle personality who is nonetheless willing to throw her considerable weight around when the occasion calls for it. Though liked by pretty much everyone, she seems especially close to Sally, and to Antoine, her husband.

Bunnie found herself restored to flesh and blood, and her husband put into a coma during an attack by Eggman's forces. Unable to deal with her feelings of helplessness, she set off on her own for an unrevealed purpose.[[note]]She appeared in silhouette twice in the Chaotix Quest story arc, suggesting she went to her uncle Beauregard for new cybernetics. WordOfGod confirms that this was the case.[[/note]] Following the [[ComicBook/SonicTheHedgehogMegaManWorldsCollide reboot,]] it was established that Bunnie was still roboticized, but instead of UnwillingRoboticization, it was to save her life at a young age after Eggman initiated his coup and she was caught in the blast of one of his attacks. Uncle Chuck managed to save her with a prototype roboticizer, though she had to get used to her new prosthetics. Along the way she met Antonie, who she became close with and eventually married.
----
!!Tropes Applying to Both Versions
* ArmCannon: Her mechanical arm converts to this, except that it's CastFromHitPoints, so she has to be careful about using it.
* BadassAdorable: She is an adorable looking, sweet-natured rabbit girl with a cute SouthernBelle accent. She's also a cyborg with SuperStrength who can kick ass and take names like nobody's business.
* BarefootCartoonAnimal: Pre-Genesis Wave, she would never wear any sort of footwear in her unroboticized form, and even her roboticized form would give each foot individual toes, implying she was still "barefoot" (DependingOnTheArtist; this was less apparent in the earlier comics than the later ones). Downplayed (if not averted) post-Genesis Wave; her feet now look significantly more like pink shoes, although the white tips of each "shoe" still sort of look like a three-toed paw.
* BashBrothers: She and Sonic often had this dynamic when Knuckles wasn't around. As Knothole's best fighters they'd often pair off in missions.
* BattleCouple: With Antonie.
* BetaCouple: She's coupled with Antoine. Their relationship was always more stable than Sonic & Sally's (which the writers often [[RelationshipRevolvingDoor made turbulent for the sake of drama]]).
* TheBigGuy: While not "big", per se, her mechanical upgrades make Bunnie's quite tough and durable, beating out the other Freedom Fighters in terms of raw strength. When Sonic was roboticized as Mecha Sonic and unleashed on them it was Bunnie alone who had the best chance of fighting him one on one.
* CoolBigSis: To Sally, sometimes to Amy and Tails.
* CuteBruiser: As she was in ''WesternAnimation/SonicTheHedgehogSatAM'', she's a cute rabbit who can [[SuperStrength destroy a tank]].
* {{Cyborg}}: Thanks to the roboticizer, she has robotic legs and a robotic arm.
* DeflectorShield: Generated from her robotic arm.
* {{Expy}}: A SouthernBelle with SuperStrength that fights on a superhero team, occasionally gets angst related drama to her "gifts" and whom's main love interest has a thick accent? You'd be fair to think Bunnie was the rabbit version of [[Characters/MarvelComicsRogue Rogue.]]
* FunetikAksent: In her earliest appearances the comics sure likes reminding the reader that she has a thick Southern accent, though with time it gets progressively downplayed and it finally ends up becoming more-or-less non-existent.
* HappilyMarried: To Antoine.
* ParentalAbandonment: Post-reboot, a flashback revealed she was found as a child on the side of a road by Rosie and Uncle Chuck. Pre-reboot, her parents had gone off to war to fight on the side of the Southern Baronies during their rebellion against the Kingdom of Acorn, only to get killed and leave her to be raised by her aunt and uncle, according to [[AllThereInTheManual The Complete Sonic Comic Encyclopedia]].
* PowerAtAPrice: She's a victim of [[UnwillingRoboticisation partial roboticization]], which grants her amazing -- [[BlessedWithSuck if occasionally unstable]] -- cybernetic powers and physical strength, [[IJustWantToBeNormal along with physical deformity.]] After switching out her original cybernetics, as they could no longer function properly, she ran the risk of dying from over exerting her powers. Her limits in the reboot haven't been established.
* SecondLove: To Antoine; he was originally fixated on Sally, but after Bunnie revealed her feelings to him, he moved on and began dating her.
* SouthernBelle: Albeit more tomboyish than most examples.
* SuperStrength: Her metal arm gives her this.
* SweetHomeAlabama: She does speak with a southern accent.
* TelescopingRobot: Literally; one of her lesser powers from her cybernetics that is rarely referenced is the ability to extend her cybernetic limbs.
* TuftOfHeadFur: Starts out with one before gaining a FurryFemaleMane later on.
* UnwillingRoboticisation: Was stopped halfway in the old continuity, thanks to an unintentionally delayed rescue from Sonic. Was subverted in the new continuity, as she originally didn't want to, but had to when she was injured during Eggman's initial attack.
* WomenAreWiser: Placed against Antoine, it's bound to happen at times.

!!Pre-Reboot Tropes
* AdaptationExpansion: While she debut in ''WesternAnimation/SonicTheHedgehogSatAM'' with a robot arm and legs, one of the very first issues, during the old continuity, shows just ''how'' that came about.
* AfraidOfTheirOwnStrength: PlayedWith, while Bunnie is fairly confident in her own strength and abilities she always has an underlying fear of being a threat to the other Freedom Fighters on account of her roboticization. She's always been afraid that the machine in her would turn on them and, her being the strongest in the FF, she'd end up causing permanent damage.
* BroughtDownToNormal: As of 232, she lost her mechanical upgrades.
* CantStayNormal: Bunnie always wanted to be normal and unroboticized back in the pre-reboot. Unfortunately, she had unergone surgery with new cybernetic limbs when the old ones started rejecting her. Naugus then changed her limbs to flesh again (by accident). However, after Mecha Sally's attack and almost losing Antoine, she felt helpless and wanted to become "useful" again. If not for the SGW, she would've gone to her uncle and ungdergo legioneization willingly granting her another set of.
* CastFromHitPoints: She's powerful, but her robotics take their energy from her life force, making her ArmCannon a DangerousForbiddenTechnique in practice.
* EarlyInstallmentWeirdness:
** Like most of the comic's early issues, Bunnie's introductory issue where she first gets roboticized is full of humor and slapstick and she's shown to be immediately happy with her new limbs. Despite this, future issues would play up Bunnie's half roboticization for drama.
** When she first made her comic debut being abducted by SWAT bots to be roboticized, Bunnie was originally portrayed as clothesless due to her backless LeotardOfPower being interpreted as pink ''fur''. This error was fixed in future stories, where Bunnie's leotard is clearly shown to be clothing.
* HonoraryAunt: To Tails who calls her "Aunt Bunnie".
* HumanoidFemaleAnimal: Like Sally, certain Archie artists were prone to [[FanservicePack exaggerating some choice elements of her physique]], going so far as to redesign her cyborg proportions to suit these changes.
* InterspeciesRomance: With Antoine; he's a coyote and she's a rabbit.
* MsFanservice: [[http://archive.is/bFp8N She became this trope]] following a rather questionable "[[FanservicePack upgrade]]".
* MurderousThighs: She uses her cybernetic legs on a brainwashed Sonic in this fashion once, though he's able to break free. She calls it her "TLC: Tight Leg Crush".
* OrnamentalWeapon: When she first started wearing the cowboy hat & jacket, she was also depicted with a pair of revolvers, even though she's never shown using them (she uses an ArmCannon instead). The revolvers eventually disappeared.
* ProgressivelyPrettier: In her early appearances she looked similar to her appearance in ''WesternAnimation/SonicTheHedgehogSatAM'': She was a cute looking rabbit with a fluff of fur on her head, contrasting against [[{{Cyborg}} bulky cybernetic limbs.]] Later on she received a taller and more curvy figure, began wearing cuter clothes (often a cowboy hat), and gained a FurryFemaleMane on her head.
* PunnyName: Her name was originally this trope. However, the pronunciation was [[{{Retcon}} retonned]] to "Ra-beaux" instead of "ra-bot" late in the comic's run.
** [[LampshadeHanging Lampshaded]], too - her uncle points out that he just KNOWS that, due to her limbs, everyone assumes that that's how it's pronounced, because he's had the same thing happen to him.
* SixthRanger: At the start of the series she was this, being a late arrival to the team and being much more of a supporting character than a main member. As the comic went on and the plot grew she became a mainstay and other newer characters took her position.

!!Post-Reboot Tropes
* AdaptationalAngstUpgrade:
** Pre-reboot, while Bunnie had occasional personal issues with her robotic parts she was happy to have them and felt useless upon them being restored to normal. Post-reboot, she had to be roboticized to save her life and it took a long time for her to accept her new limbs.
** Pre-reboot, Bunnie herself was the one who coined the termed "Rab-bot" but post-reboot it became an AppropriatedAppellation from her youth from when other kids picked on her for having robotic limbs.
* BerserkButton: Do ''not'' imply that Bunnie wanted her robotic parts. It happened because she was in danger.
* EmergencyTransformation: In the new universe, rather then have been a victim of forced partial robotization. She was caught in an blast by an Eggman attack that nearly killed her leading to Uncle Chuck using a prototype Roboticizer to save her life.
* MysteriousPast: She grew up with Rosie and the other kids of Mobotropolis, with no memory of her actual family or place of birth. She had been searching for some time, but has since saw her fellow Freedom Fighters as a family of sorts.

[[folder:Antoine D'Coolette]]
[[quoteright:300:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/antoine_archie.png]]
[[caption-width-right:300:[[labelnote:Click here to see his pre-Genesis Wave design]]https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/120px-Antoine_Yardley_6275.jpg[[/labelnote]]]]

An [[CheeseEatingSurrenderMonkeys obnoxiously-French and somewhat cowardly]] member of the Freedom Fighters, despite his lack of anything approaching battle prowess. He ironically dressed like a palace guard (like his father) but, like the other core cast members, he was too young when Robotnik took over to actually serve. In the early days, he was [[HopelessSuitor a would-be rival for Sally's affections]], but even this was beyond his grasp, as the dashing Geoffrey St. John fit the bill much better. (The only thing Antoine and Sonic agreed on was that they both couldn't stand him.) He mostly stuck to his bumbling role from the TV show, which was even more exaggerated in some stories--complete with a DodgyToupee (which kept flying off in times of stress). This peaked with Antoine prosecuting Sonic for his time as Mecha-Sonic under Robotnik's control; despite being annoyed at Antoine's grandstanding, the judges had no choice but to convict.\
He later shed most of his unsavory traits and developed into a semi-capable agent. He also stopped pursuing Sally and instead struck up a romance with Bunnie (undoubtedly a reference to Rogue and Gambit from ''X-Men'').\
Antoine was critically-wounded and put in a coma during an attempt on Elias' life. Following the [[ComicBook/SonicTheHedgehogMegaManWorldsCollide reboot,]] Antoine was never injured and is still an active member of the Freedom Fighters. In the new universe, he was a trainee in a royal guard exchange program, but graduated at the time when Eggman took over, and he fled with the others. Cursing his cowardice and doing his best to protect Sally, he vowed to become stronger. Along the way he met Bunnie and they became close through many trials (including the loss of his parents during his away time from home) before eventually marrying her.
----
!!Tropes Applying to Both Versions
* AdaptationalBadass: He always prefers to cut and run in [=SatAM=], though he occasionally displays rare moments of bravery when it matters the most. Here though, he undergoes some serious character development, granting him the status of CowardlyLion and only further downplays from there to become a KnightInShiningArmor, to the point where even Sonic is impressed.
* AdaptationNameChange: His ''WesternAnimation/SonicTheHedgehogSatAM'' counterpart's surname is Depardieu.
* BattleCouple: With Bunnie.
* BetaCouple: With Bunnie. Their relationship was always more stable than Sonic & Sally's (which the writers often [[RelationshipRevolvingDoor made turbulent for the sake of drama]]).
* ButtMonkey: Sonic seems to find numerous ways to annoy Ant,and he himself falls into some embarrassing prat falls, but both grow out of it as the series continues.
* CharacterizationMarchesOn: Originally portrayed as a cowardly ButtMonkey, he later became a KnightInShiningArmour.
* CowardlyLion: Though more competent in later stories, he's still a tad jittery.
* FurryFemaleMane: A rare male example.
* GratuitousFrench: Mostly in the early days of the comic, he was prone to spouting French and an overblown French FunetikAksent. This trait vastly decreased as part of his CharacterizationMarchesOn, allowing for more BilingualBonus.
* HappilyMarried: To Bunnie.
* InterspeciesRomance: Twofold; originally, Antoine the coyote had an unrequited crush on Sally ([[{{Retcon}} who has been variously]] a chipmunk/squirrel hybrid, a chipmunk, and a ground squirrel). He got over her and hooked up with Bunnie the rabbit.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: At first, then he just straight up ditched the "jerk" part.
* TookALevelInBadass: Unlike his cartoon self, Ant has undergone serious character development after the earliest issues. He went from being basically afraid of his own shadow to Commander of the Royal Army. His rank following the reboot was unknown, but he's more physically able, having displayed a spin dash attack of his own by sticking his sword out during the move. He is still reasonably afraid, but will risk his life for his teammates.

!!Pre-Reboot Tropes
* CerebusRetcon: Antoine's FunetikAksent and GratuitousFrench were subject to one in the Encyclopedia. His way of speaking was the result of his parents conflicting ideas on how to raise him when they immigrated to Knothole: his father wanted him to speak English to better integrate while his mother wanted him to speak French like in the old country. The ensuing war left his education incomplete and as such his manner of speaking is him struggling with English.
* CharacterDevelopment: While his hidden bravery, competence, and much of his depth was a clear case of [[CharacterizationMarchesOn his character marching on]], he also developed in a number of ways. Antoine tries to better himself to properly live up to his family's legacy and most notably moves away from being Sally's HopelessSuitor, acknowledging it as a one-sided crush and leaving her be.
* CheeseEatingSurrenderMonkeys: At first, but he grows out of it.
* ChildSoldier: In the original continuity, his father, General Armand D'Coolette, trained him.
* DodgyToupee: The blonde tuft of hair on his head is a toupee that get's comically knocked off or mocked in earlier stories. Later stories either retconned that away or he grew an actual head of hair as this aspect of the character was dropped along with many of his other comically unflattering traits.
* GrewASpine: See the CharacterizationMarchesOn entry above.
* HalfDressedCartoonAnimal: Antoine wore a blue military coat with no pants before the reboot.
* HeroicSacrifice: In 234, leaving him comatose.
* HopelessSuitor: To Sally.
* {{Hypocrite}}: Antoine calls Sonic egocentric and does not play well with others which is sometimes true but Antoine isn't any better. He himself had an ego for a time and in all honesty Sonic has earn the right to brag about himself. Considering he runs head first into battle against tyrants that put him as number 1 on their shit list and never backs down or is intimidated. Antoine can only dream to get that far.
* IdiotHero: In the original miniseries before the regular, Antoine was much more competent.
* JerkassHasAPoint: When Sonic is temporarily roboticized and set loose on Knothole, Antoine wastes no time arresting him on charges for treason. While Antoine is a FrenchJerk who's always hated Sonic, and spends the subsequent trial doing everything he can to [[KangarooCourt make him look undeniably guilty]], he does point out that it's definitely suspicious, since Sonic had previously approached them with a plan to let himself be roboticized using a Neuro Overrider to retain his free will so he could destroy Robotnik's empire from within, and the fact that Sonic was roboticized immediately after the other Freedom Fighters vetoed this plan makes it seem that Sonic just disobeyed orders and went through with it anyway. While that's not the case, even the other Freedom Fighters agree that Antoine's suspicions aren't entirely invalid.
* ObstructiveBureaucrat: In earlier issues, Antoine was obsessed with motions, committees, subcommittees, and any other bureaucratic obstacle that could possibly hinder/prosecute Sonic or glorify himself.
* OnceDoneNeverForgotten: Sonic loves to tease him about his CheeseEatingSurrenderMonkeys phase, as seen in issue 204:
-->'''Sonic:''' Remember your old yellow streak?\
'''Antoine:''' Oui. I recall it all too well.\
'''Sonic:''' Because I totally could bring it up right now.\
'''Antoine:''' I know.\
'''Sonic:''' I've got a list.\
'''Antoine:''' Stop eet.
* PluckyComicRelief: The reason behind his early portrayal as a bungling coward prone to verbal hiccups and accidents was, simply, to make him a comedic character.
* TheResenter: Particularly at the start of the comic and usually (though not always) played for comedy.
** He was this to Sonic a lot of the time. Sonic was faster, stronger, and braver than Antoine was and that served to give Antoine an inferiority complex. He saw himself as something of a romantic rival to him in regards to Sally, but ultimately she never returned his affections. A major part of his CharacterDevelopment was him coming to terms with his strengths and he and Sonic end up becoming stronger friends.
** Antoine was also fairly resentful of Geoffrey St. John though not to the extent of Sonic. In the arcs leading up to Endgame Antoine reveals that he never liked Geoffrey and viewed his formation of the Secret Service as a St. John stealing the idea from Antoine's father. He even comes to Sonic's defense when Geoffrey accuses him of being the traitor. Unlike his resentment of Sonic; Antoine's dislike of Geoffrey never seemed related to his courtship of Sally, and the dislike never really went away.
* {{Squee}}: In an issue of Sonic Universe, after having gone through most of the arc without a sword, he has the reaction "Eek! Un sabre!" when he's finally given one, complete with a little jump for joy. At the end of the arc, he mentions that he might start up a sword collection.
* TookALevelInKindness: As the writers moved Antoine away from his old StrawLoser incarnation, Antoine became a lot nicer. Initially, Antoine was often the antagonist amongst the Freedom Fighters, even at one point trying to prosecute Sonic after he was roboticized and do everything in his power to ensure his conviction. He mellowed out considerably into a more noble and less uptight character and his relationship with Sonic improved tremendously to the point he even has Sonic as his best man at the wedding.
* TrappedInAnotherWorld: He spent over a year stranded on [[MirrorUniverse Anti-Mobius]] when Anti-Sonic decided to swap him with [[EvilTwin Anti-Antoine]] after getting sick of Anti-Antoine's constant attempts at being TheStarscream. He's finally brought home in issue 156, when Sonic discovers the switch and rescues him.
* WellDoneSonGuy: A recurring motive for him is wanting to impress his father, General Armand D'Coolette. In issue 112, this led to him convincing Sonic to dress up as [[EvilTwin Anti-Sonic]] and stage a fight; instead, the ''real'' Anti-Sonic shows up, and Antoine defeats him with a single karate chop. In issue 168, Armand, on his deathbed, assures a morally-weak Antoine that he's anything but a failure and that he views his son as a far greater warrior than he.

!!Post-Reboot Tropes
* AccessoryWearingCartoonAnimal: After the reboot, he ditched the coat entirely and pretty much joins the rest of the boys in the "go naked except for shoes and gloves" club.
* ParentalAbandonment: Both his parents were killed in an Eggman raid while he was away from home. He received an email from Nicole about it later.
* UptownGuy: The planned Sonic Universe 95 (of which the pencils were released online and fans refined it to make it a full color comic) reveals Antoine's family has lived in a castle for generations. This is definitely more upper class than Bunnie's background as an orphan found by Rosie and Uncle Chuck.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Amy Rose]]
[[quoteright:259:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/amy_rose_archie.png]]

The tough-but-pretty, self-proclaimed love interest and friend of Sonic. Once a young child, Amy was made older by magical means. After earning her place as a Freedom Fighter, she is considered a powerful and capable member of the group. Not much is really known about her history in the new universe other than the fact that the events of ''Sonic CD'' did happen. Though more then likely she became older naturally rather then the power ring she wished on.
----
* AgeLift: Amy in the games started out as eight in ''Sonic CD'' but was retconned into a twelve-year-old for ''Sonic Adventure''. Amy in the Archie comics is more... complicated. She starts out as eight but physically ages herself up into ''seventeen'' in the ''Adventures'' arc. A few years pass in-series so by the end of the comic Amy is chronologically twelve like her game counterpart, but is physically an adult.
* AscendedExtra: Much like her games counterpart, she was a fairly minor recurrent character in early issues, though slowly became more prominent after the events of ''Adventure''. By the time of the reboot she's as much a main character as the original Freedom Fighters.
* BadassAdorable: Ever more so in ''Mega Drive'', when she's still young, and yet is still capable of smashing things with her hammer (and effortlessly catching one of Sonic's rings after he drops them).
%% * CoolBigSis: To Cream.
* CuteBruiser: She's short and spunky, and takes on hulking foes such as [[TheBrute the Iron King]] head-on with her hammer, looking sweet all the while.
* CuteAndPsycho: The pre-reboot issues adapted her MoodSwinger tendencies from ''Sonic X'' for a while, but slowly downplayed them by the end of it.
* DistaffCounterpart: To Sonic. They're the only hedgehogs on the Freedom Fighters, he's male, and she's female.
* DudeWheresMyRespect: Tired of being on the sidelines, she aged herself up so that she could join the Freedom Fightes. It wouldn't be until she held off an army of Badniks following Sonic's return from space that Amy was made a member herself.
* HairTriggerTemper: True to her other modern incarnations, more modern comics give her quite a nasty temper and make her fairly easy to set off.
* HeroicComedicSociopath: Similar to ''Anime/SonicX'', the comic is fond of playing up Amy's [[HairTriggerTemper occasionally violent mood swings]]. A fair few enemies and even some allies are terrified of her when angered. This trait slowly downplayed towards the end of the pre-reboot series, though she still retains odd moments as TheDreaded to foes.
* InvisibleParents: Characters like Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles have {{Canon Foreigner}} parents, but Amy's parents are never shown on-screen.
* IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy: She hasn't given up on Sonic, but if Sally makes Sonic happy in the here and now, she'll support their relationship. It helps that she thinks Sally is [[CoolBigSis kinda cool.]]
* LimitedWardrobe: Lampshaded when Honey recognizes her outfit as one of her designs, and Amy tells her she loves it so much she practically wears nothing else.
* LittleMissBadass: Like in the games and ''Sonic X'' most of her UnstoppableRage moments were PlayedForLaughs. Only more grave or no-nonsense opponents like Scourge (who has a ''far'' worse version of her in his own universe) and Shadow NoSell the gag and make clear she ''isn't'' scaring them in the slightest, with them both even adding a CurbstompBattle to the gesture. [[WouldHitAGirl Being treated as an equal fighter has its downsides]].
* OnceDoneNeverForgotten: In the post-Super Genesis Wave universe, Amy's game history is fully intact. As such, Sonic refuses to let her live down the fact that [[VideoGame/SonicAdventure2 she mistook Shadow for Sonic.]]
* PluckyGirl: Seems to have this as her default attitude.
* PointyEars: She is a hedgehog after all.
* {{Squee}}:
** She totally fangirls over Honey the Cat, her favorite fashion designer, bowling over an entire crowd to meet with her.
** ''Mega Drive'' has a moment where Sonic is forced to carry her when they flee an trap of Eggman's. Amy has a look of absolute bliss on her face the entire time.
* TagalongKid: ''Mega Drive'' has her accompanying Sonic and Tails on their adventure as one, though she does at least justify her inclusion by grabbing any rings Sonic drops (meanwhile, Sonic reasons bringing her along means he can keep an eye on her).
* TookALevelInBadass: During their underwater trip, Amy ends up learning the Mystic Melody, which is upgraded from just finding hidden paths to out and out turning Amy into a living Chaos Emerald detector.

The team's resident mechanic and [[TheSmartGuy smart guy]]. Rotor is a somewhat [[ShrinkingViolet retiring type]], but strong enough to fill the role of TheBigGuy if Bunnie hadn't occupied that slot. With Tails increasingly occupying TheSmartGuy slot, Rotor unfortunately found himself [[OutOfFocus pushed to the background]] frequently. He joined the Mobian Council until quitting the group in disgust, deciding to take action himself as the leader of the newly formed Team Freedom. Following the [[ComicBook/SonicTheHedgehogMegaManWorldsCollide reboot,]] Rotor was never injured and is still an active member of the Freedom Fighters.

In the new universe, he's was part of a tribe of warrior walruses where he was a technology prodigy, but his father, a very old fashioned being, hated technology and, according to his words, him as well. Rotor left home in hopes of finding a place in New Mobotropolis only to arrive when Eggman was in control of the kingdom. Sally saved him and he put his talents to use making weapons and gadgets for the Freedom Fighters. He, along with Tails, developed the Tornados and the team's base, Sky Patrol, .

Since the CosmicRetcon, Rotor's now much younger, stronger and has his smarts to fight alongside his friends once more.
----
* AbusiveParents: In the post-Super Genesis Wave world, Rotor's father hated new things and never liked ''him''. Prompting Rotor to seek greener pastures.
* ArchnemesisDad: [[spoiler:Turns out his father, Tundra, is one of Eggman's Egg Bosses who willingly surrendered his land when Eggman took it over. Rotor is less then pleased when he realizes this.]]
* TheArtifact: He was originally the Freedom Fighters' resident technical genius but ended up getting increasingly pushed to the wayside due to the introduction of Nate Morgan and due to Tails being reestablished as a kid genius.
* CareerEndingInjury: He's taken out of active duty as a Freedom Fighter when he suffers a severe back injury during the destruction of Knothole. After working for the Council for a time, and quitting, he returns to active duty, using PoweredArmor to compensate.
* CharacterizationMarchesOn:
** Near the end of Ken Penders's run on the comics, he tried to reinvent Rotor as a more of a pacifist and a noncombatant, with Rotor's personality becoming more mellow and doing things like encouraging Tails to focus on providing technical support for the rest of the team rather than getting involved in battles, allowing Eggman to enter Knothole unopposed to parlay with Sonic and snapping at Fiona for picking up a gun. This is in stark contrast to earlier issues where Rotor's first instinct upon seeing Robotnik in Knothole was to try and blast him away with a giant gun he had invented.
** Post-reboot, Ian Flynn wrote him as being the most militant and pragmatic member of the Freedom Fighters, preferring to take Eggman's robots head on and prioritizing completing missions over anything else. For example, he originally wanted to just forcefully take the Chaos Emerald that Breezie had made the prize of her fighting tournament only for Sally to explain that throwing their weight around like that would be terrible for their reputation during a time when they need as many allies as possible.
* DefectorFromDecadence: Already furious with the rest of the [[ObstructiveBureaucrat Council of Acorn]], Rotor hits his limit when everyone but himself, including [[CoolUncle Uncle Chuck]], votes in favor of exiling Nicole from New Mobotropolis because "it's what the people want." No longer able to stomach being part of the council anymore after this, Rotor, after giving the rest of them a [[WhatTheHellHero tongue-lashing]] for doing so, resigned on the spot and left in outrage.
-->'''Rotor''': This council is for the citizens, and it just betrayed one of them.
* DemotedToExtra: Pre-Retcon, since sustaining a serious injury to his back, he's joined the council and retired from the Freedom Fighters proper.
* DoesNotLikeGuns: At one point, when Fiona suggests that they use guns, Rotor shuts it down, stating that the Freedom Fighters ''never'' use guns because it isn't their way. [[CerebusRetcon This was later explained]] as Rotor feeling guilt over accidentally hurting a civilian while using guns, and he admits that he might've overcompensated in his anti-gun stance.
* GadgeteerGenius: If it isn’t Tails they go to for gadgets it’s him.
** GeniusBruiser: How he is portrayed in the post-Super Genesis Wave world
* HesBack: After quitting the Mobian Council, Rotor returns to active duty, donning PoweredArmor to circumvent his injured back. Post-Genesis Wave, he's now much more fit and able.
* HeroicBSOD: [[spoiler: Briefly became dishearten upon finding that his father was one of Eggman's Egg Boss and likewise still shows him no respect. Sonic manages to snap him out of it, stating that [[YouAreBetterThanYouThinkYouAre Rotor is more a man than he is because he was willing to fight Eggman rather then roll over like his father did]].]]
* MrFixIt: Shared with Tails.
* NoShirtLongJacket: He started wearing a brown jacket in later issues, but has dropped it as of Team Freedom's formation.
* OutOfFocus: Rotor had a hard time staying relevant especially after Robotnik's original defeat. Though he had some stories focused on him (most notably his attempts to save his family) he just became less and less important than the other [=SatAM=] introduced characters and as the game characters began to take a bigger role in the stories, his importance shrank further. In the post-reboot world he gained a new personal conflict with an egg-boss [[spoiler:his father]], but in the end that plot point never paid off with the comic's cancellation.
* ParentalAbandonment: Post-reboot, his mother died of illness and his father pretty much disowned him [[spoiler: and later joined up with Eggman.]]
* PoweredArmor: Pre-Genesis Wave, he wears one of his own design that was constructed with the help of [=NICOLE=], which he uses to make up for his back injury. It's gone as of the reboot, but at least his back was never injured.
* ResignInProtest: When the Acorn Council votes to banish NICOLE from New Mobotropolis because "[[ConvictedByPublicOpinion it's what the people want]]", Rotor is so disgusted and upset that he resigns from his seat on the spot.
* StatingTheSimpleSolution: Rotor points out that [[spoiler:they can just take Breezie's Chaos Emerald by force, instead of fighting in her tournament, [[PragmaticHero since they're trying to save the world.]]]] It gets shot down by Amy and Sally because they, as heroes, provide moral support to the world by example.
* StoutStrength: Implied at times to be out of shape, but can whack a wallop when he needs to.
* TakingTheBullet: His injury was sustained while pushing Tails out of the way of a falling wall that would likely have killed him.
* TheRunaway: Is this in the new universe since his father dictated everything on MightMakesRight and couldn't see Rotor's intelligence and inventions as part of that philosophy. Ultimately he had enough of father's bull and left his village to find someone who would appreciates his talents.
* ThisLooksLikeAJobForAquaman: Shown in the Post-Genesis Wave, being an aquatic animal allows him reach underwater areas the rest of the Freedom Fighter either can't get to and wouldn't be able too without a breathing apparatus.

[[folder:Cream the Rabbit & Cheese]]
[[quoteright:300:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/modern_cream_cheese_resize.png]]

A cute bunny girl whose home, where all of Knothole's Chao had relocated, was destroyed by Snively. They were saved by Amy Rose, who brought them to New Mobotropolis. Cream quickly became friends with Amy, and participated in their adventure with Blaze and the Sol Emeralds. Recently, she became a part of Team Freedom to protect her new home, and was the guardian of a certain [[CreepyDoll doll that looks like Tails]] until the reboot.

In the new universe, despite the dangers, Cream and Cheese tag along with the Freedom Fighters, with permission from Vanilla, and mostly acts as support and mission control when Sally is needed on the field though Cream states she wishes she was able to do more.

%%* ABoyAndHisX:
* ActualPacifist: Cream doesn't like fighting at all. She get mad and frustrated, but if anyone's doing the attacking, it's Cheese.
* AdaptationalWimp: Applies mostly to Cheese but Cream herself suffers from this as well. In the games, most evidently the VideoGame/SonicAdvanceTrilogy, Cream is no less capable than any other character and, should the situation call for it, is willing to get fully involved in fights [[ReluctantWarrior despite her dislike of violence]]. Meanwhile Cheese is [[PintSizedPowerhouse usually strong enough to one-shot enemies and deals regular damage to bosses]], which is saying a lot considering most other Chao are not anywhere near that strong. Here in the comics, however, Cheese is significantly weaker as his attacks do [[NoSell nothing more than distract enemies]] and he seems to daze himself in the process. While it remains to be seen if Cream is actually combat capable or not, she is much less willing to fight than her game counterpart and mostly takes part in battles by airlifting people out of harm's way instead of actually attacking. Granted, Cream & Cheese are presented as powerful in gameplay due to being one the "beginner's characters" but they have been shown as capable characters outside of gameplay, with Anime/SonicX having them be the only one's capable of defeating a berserk [[OneManArmy Emerl]].
* BigDamnHeroes: In 267, when the Freedom Fighters (sans Sonic) fell into Eggman's trap and were ambushed by [[EliteMooks three E-100 Series robots]] with no hope for escape, Cream gathered the remaining Freedom Fighters (Big, T-Pup, and Omochao) and went out to rescue everyone, which proved successful. Were it not for Cream, the rest of the Freedom Fighters very likely would have been killed.
** NewcomerSavesTheDay: The above moment might also count as this, as Cream is a junior member of the Freedom Fighters and wasn't part of the team until 256, just eleven issues ago. True, the [[MineralMacGuffin Chaos Emerald]] they were after couldn't be obtained and the Freedom Fighters suffered a crushing defeat all the same but at least they were spared from certain death.
*** Likewise did it again when Gemerl was getting overwhelmed by the Hooligans and the Witchcarters, managing to save him and forcing Nack to retreat.
* DudeWheresMyRespect: While she ''is'' a member of the Freedom Fighters already in the new universe, Cream gets the same treatment as Tails and Amy had in the past in being sidelined by Sally due to her young age (despite Cream having the same history as her game counterpart in the new universe). Even after [[BigDamnHeroes she led the rescue of the whole team (sans Sonic and Big) from an ambush]], Cream was still kept out of missions until the tail-end of Shattered World Crisis, with her role in said missions being minimal.
* {{Flight}}: Via her bunny ears. You thought Tails is the only one who can fly without wings?
* FreeRangeChildren: Cream is one of the few characters, and the only one from the games, with a known parent: [[Characters/SonicTheHedgehogArchieComicsCitizensOfMobotropolis Vanilla the Rabbit]]. Even though she is one of the youngest characters and [[ReluctantWarrior not exactly the adventuring type]], Cream is fully allowed by her mother to travel across the world and fight evil.
* FriendToAllLivingThings: To Cheese, and all of the Chao who and her mother came to take care of.
* KidHero: Like Tails and Amy before her, however, while she genuinely wants to go out and help the other Freedom Fighters, Sally calmly tells her to stay behind, mostly because she knows that there are more terrible things out there.
* RidiculouslyCuteCritter: "Too cute to eviscerate," according to Omega.

Denizens of Mysterious Cat Country who became involved in the ordeal with Perfect Chaos. Big has since been exiled by the other Felidae and forced to take up residence in New Mobotropolis, where he soon became part of Team Freedom. He works with the regular Freedom Fighter team as of the reboot with really no history to him other than just coming along for the heck of it and acting as extra muscle for the group.
----
* AngstWhatAngst: In-universe. Cheered up after being exiled from his home when Sonic told him the fishing was great up north.
* AscendedExtra: Following the ''Sonic Adventure'' adaptation, the two made only sporadic appearances for a good few years. After Big is banished by his Felidae kin however, he and Froggy are allowed into New Mobotropolis as part of the Freedom Fighter group, making him a supporting hero in many of the late pre-reboot and post-reboot issues.
* BigDamnHeroes: When he gets into the thick of things, he's very good at using his strength and fishing pole to help out, from punching Drago Wolf straight through a stone wall to saving Sally, Bunnie, and Antoine from three E-series Super-Badniks with his fishing pole.
* BlackSheep: Openly considered this by his fellow Felidae due to being a simple-minded fellow and willingness to talk with outsiders. He was banished as a result.
* CatsAreMean: Inverted. Big is a very friendly and jovial fellow.
** Played straight with most of his kind and he was kicked out for his amicable nature and willingness to talk to outsiders.
* CloudCuckoolander: Still certainly out there.
* CommutingOnABus: Has been making infrequent appearances in the comic over the years, but has recently moved to the same area as the rest of the main cast.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass:bHe may be a simple-minded cat, but he is ''canonically'' the ''strongest'' character, beating out powerhouses like Bark and Mighty.
* TheDitz: Same ol' Big the Cat.
** GeniusDitz: Certainly has his moments.
* TheFool: Though he has his moments of brilliance and of course has SimpleMindedWisdom.
* GentleGiant: He may be a giant fellow with the
* KindHeartedSimpleton: Big may not be the smartest of the bunch, but his heart is as big as his body.
* OddFriendship: Has gained shades of one with Sally, who being an intellectual, neurosis prone princess, is a total opposite of dopey, laid back hermit Big.
* PurpleIsPowerful: Big has purple fur and is physically the strongest character in the series, surpassing even Knuckles and Mighty who are renowned for their incredible strength.
* SimpleMindedWisdom: Seems to be gaining a penchant for this following the reboot. This is easily exemplified when Sally questions what he thinks of NICOLE and if it's weird that she's not flesh and blood like the rest of them. His response?
-->"Uh, nope? As long as they're nice, I don't care what anyone is."
* SixthRanger: In the reboot. After guiding Sonic and Tails to, and subsequently helping defend, the Sky Patrol, he and Froggy are now part of the team.
* StoutStrength: And HOW. Big is THE strongest character in the Sonic universe. Possibility even stronger than Knuckles.
* SuddenlyVoiced: It's a comic book, so it's not quite this trope, but the comic is one of the few mediums where we get a glimpse into Froggy's thoughts. As it turns out, he's a bit of a smart ass.
* TooDumbToLive: Needed others to ''tell him'' to defend himself in pre reboot stories. [[DumbassNoMore Downplayed post reboot where he is more capable of thinking for himself.]]
* UnderestimatingBadassery: His dopey exterior led to him sparsely getting taken seriously by bad guys and getting somewhat patronising treatment from team mates such as Sally. A couple BigDamnHeroes moments seem to have rectified the latter at least.
* WhiteSheep: To the outside world, Big is very much considered this when compared to his kin. He is a jovial, peaceful and friendly fellow in contrast to the standard vicious and war mongering Felidae.
* WorldsStrongestMan: He is confirmed to be the ''strongest'' (as in physical might) character in the whole series, with Mighty coming in at second and Bark the Polar Bear at third.
