!The Oceania Cooperative Union (OCU) Military
!!OCUMDF 41st Battalion "Muddy Otters"
[[folder:Ash Faruk]]
!!Ash Faruk
[[quoteright:240:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ash_faruk_6.jpg]]
Ash Faruk was born and raised in Alordesh (formerly known as Bangladesh). He quickly rose to become a second lieutenant in the Alordesh army after enlisting, but but was discharged for reasons unknown in 2098. In 2100, Ash enlisted in the OCU Maritime Defense Force (MDF), where he later rose to the rank of Corporal as a member of the OCUMDF 41st Battalion, the Muddy Otters. He was stationed at the OCUMDF Rimian Base when the Second Alordesh Coup D'etat broke out. Caught in an unexpected war, Ash sought to leave the country with his fellow Muddy Otters.

[[spoiler: Despite at first claiming to want nothing other than to leave Alordesh, Ash in truth cared deeply about his home country. It was later revealed that he had become disillusioned after the incident that resulted in his discharge from the Alordesh army - in year 2098, Ash was instructed by Colonel Azad to participate in a secret rehearsal for the violent revolution against the OCU. His refusal to be an accomplice caused Azad to attempt to kill him, which ended in Ash dealing a lethal counter-attack on Azad. Since then, Ash had never smiled]].

----
* TheAce: Ash seemed to be a pretty talented fighter and military commander. E.g., when the Muddy Otters cleared the enemies at Rimian Base (post Mission 1), Ash was the one who knew what to do and gave instructions to Joyce, Amia, and Griff. [[spoiler: Colonel Azad was interested in specifically recruiting him]]. And [[spoiler: he was chosen to be the leader of the final assault group during the attack on Deean Air Force Base (Mission 23)]].
-->'''Ash''': There's no one I don't know in the Alordesh military.
* BashBrothers: With Joyce for much of the story. For starter, the two [[spoiler: worked together to goad Amia into flying them back to Alordesh after escaping]].
* ByronicHero: Young man? Check. Burdened by guilt over a wrong he had committed in the past? Check. Impulsive and disobedient?
* DefrostingIceKing: Ever since Ash [[spoiler: became the scapegoat for the failure of the First Alordeshi Coup D'etat]], he had never smiled... until Lisa Stanley came around.
* FriendlySniper: Sort of. He was officially an Assault-class pilot, which was also reflected when he appeared in the arena in ''5''. However, he had access to the unique battle skill "Sniper", which makes the first attack always hit the body and is more powerful when used with rifles. This was likely due to the fact that Sniper as a job class didn't exist in ''2''.
* ItsAllMyFault: Ash had shown significant guilt at multiple points, including when [[spoiler: his plan to sneak back into Alordesh accidentally backfired and resulted in Amia getting stranded with him and Joyce]], and also when [[spoiler: he ruined the First Alordeshi Coup D'etat]].
* TheLeader: To the trio of himself, Joyce, and Amia. Then later to [[spoiler: the final assault group during the attack on Deean Air Force Base (Mission 23)]].
* MeaningfulName: His wanzer was nicknamed '''Bounder''', which means "dishonourable man".
* MyCountryRightOrWrong: Zigzagged. In the very first cutscene, we saw Ash feel sad when OCU soldiers commented on Alordesh's economic hardship. Then once the Coup D'etat broke out, Ash, like Joyce and Amia, seemed to want nothing other than getting out of Alordesh. At one point, Saribash also wondered why Ash didn't seem at all interested in staying to help despite being an Alordeshi. [[spoiler: As revealed much later (namely in the cutscene before Mission 26), Ash became disillusioned after blowing the First Alordeshi Coup D'etat, and deep down, he still cared for his country and wanted it to prosper]]. [[spoiler: ''5'' revealed that he was working with the Grimnir to bring about this]].
--> (Ash and Joyce were walking through Maniple, Ash's hometown.)
-->'''Ash''': ...
-->'''Joyce''': So, this is your hometown?
-->'''Ash''': Yeah...
-->'''Joyce''': You always said you hated this country, eh?
-->'''Ash''': ...What I hate is seeing this country rot...people living in filth develop filthy souls... A country like this...
-->'''Joyce''': ...What about now? Do you still hate this country now?
-->'''Ash''': [[TheQuietOne ...]]
-->'''Joyce''': You don't need to answer that.
-->'''Ash''': ...
* NiceGuy: Ash seems to have difficulty getting mad at people, best shown during [[spoiler: the intermission before Mission 17: Griff confessed that he had been smuggling weapons from the MDF, and that was the real reason he chose to stay in Alordesh. Joyce was (understandably) enraged and proceeded to yell at Griff, while Ash, [[{{Foil}} in contrast]], stayed calm throughout the entire conversation]]. Ash's niceness was also shown by the fact that he [[spoiler: refused to be an accomplice to the violent First Alordeshi Coup D'etat]].
* ObliviousToLove: [[spoiler: It was due largely to IncompatibleOrientation. Ash seemed to be clueless about [[StraightGay Rocky]]'s crush on him]].
* TheQuietOne: Ash was one of the least talkative characters in the main cast. Even when he did talk, his sentences tended to be significantly shorter than others characters'.
* ShipTease: Had some with Lisa Stanley. As mentioned, he acted depressed for much of the events of ''2''... until Lisa came around. However, no official romance occurred between the two throughout the game.
* SouthAsianTerrorists: [[spoiler: ''5'' revealed that he's working with the Grimnir after the events of ''2'']].
* SupportingProtagonist: Somewhat. Most of the story was told with Ash being the POV character, and he did play leadership roles at some points. However, the person who actually led the team of [[spoiler: Burg Transportation was Saribash, and to a lesser extent Thomas]].
* TrueCompanions: He treated his fellow Muddy Otters as this. In fact, wanting to save Griff was his main motivation to get back into Alordesh after escaping with Joyce and Amia. [[spoiler: Too bad Griff's real reason for going back to Alordesh was concern for his little arms smuggling business]].
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Joyce S. Whitfield]]
!!Joyce S. Whitfield
[[quoteright:240:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/fm2_joyce_s_whitfield.jpg]]
Joyce S. Whitfield was an OCU marine first class and a member of the Muddy Otters. He enlisted in the OCU Ground Defense Force (OCU GDF) in 2094 and was assigned ground duty with the regular army. In 2100, Whitfield was reassigned to the Muddy Otters with the OCU MDF after being warned about his [[TheCasanova playboy attitude towards women]].
----
* BashBrothers: With Ash for much of the story. For starter, these two [[spoiler: worked together to goad Amia into flying them back to Alordesh after escaping]].
* TheCasanova: As Amia put it:
-->'''Amia''': Oh my, how rare for a womanizer like you to want to sleep all alone.
* TheCharmer: Most noticeable within the trio of Ash, Amia, and him. A typical dynamic in this trio was Ash [[TheQuietOne quietly playing his part]], Joyce doing most of the talking or charming required, while Amia got goaded/semi-forced to go along with whatever Ash and Joyce were up to.
** Joyce did have quite a knack of getting through to people, as he managed to start a conversation with [[TheQuietOne Lira]], get Ash to admit that he didn't actually hate Alordesh, and also get Sarilbash to [[spoiler: recognize that he loved Ven as his son deep down]].
* DissonantSerenity: Responded to [[spoiler: Saribash's furious threat to "tear his head off" (for letting Ven get away)]] with calmness.
* {{Heroic BSoD}}: He was easily as heartbroken as Saribash was when [[spoiler: Lira appeared to have died]].
* IllKillYou: [[spoiler: After the Burg Transportation captured Ven at Dhaka]], Joyce was tasked with watching Ven, and he calmly said this to Ven as [[spoiler: he allowed Lira to break Ven out of the place]].
-->'''Joyce''': I don't know what you're going to do from here on in. But, if I meet you on the battlefield again, I will kill you. Just remember that.
-->'''Ven''': ...
* TheLancer: To Ash.
* LongRangeFighter: The Muddy Otters' resident Missileer-class pilot.
* LoveMakesYouDumb: Over the course of the story, he had made quite a few unwise decisions out of his crush on Lira, such as [[spoiler: getting back to Alordesh (which could put his life in real dangers) after managing to escape]].
--> (Amia had agreed to [[spoiler: fly Ash and Joyce back to Alordesh]].)
-->'''Amia''': Well, you're certainly cheery all of a sudden, Joyce.
-->'''Joyce''': Really? I'd say I've always been handsome and charming.
* MeaningfulName: His wanzer was nickednamed '''Dusk Man''', which fits a romantic like him.
* PrettyBoy
* ShipTease: He had ''tons'' of this with Lira Labra. He was the first person outside Saribash to manage to get through to her, and was [[spoiler: as heartbroken as Saribash was when Lira seemed to have died]]. [[spoiler: They still didn't have an official relationship by the end, however]].
* SimpleYetAwesome: His unique battle skill "Hunting" was pretty straightforward - it increases accuracy and damage, and that's it. But it didn't change the fact that it's very strong. Not to mention it's obtainable when Joyce reached Level 10 at Long proficiency (while all other unique battle skills could only be obtained after level ''20''), making it most likely the first character-specific battle skill the player got their hands on.
* TrueCompanions: He treated his fellow Muddy Otters as this. After escaping with Ash and Amia, Joyce was as eager as Ash to go back in order to rescue Griff. [[spoiler: Joyce was quite pissed when he learnt that Griff was in truth staying in Alordesh for the sake of his little arms smuggling business]].
* VitriolicBestBuds: Downplayed with Amia. The two playfully ripped on each other at times, though they're ultimately still friends and regarded each other with respect.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Amia [=McCalum=]]]
!!Amia [=McCalum=]
[[quoteright:240:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/amia_mccalum.jpg]]
Amia [=McCalum=] is an OCU marine first class and a member of the Muddy Otters. She originally served as a transport pilot for the OCU Air Force until she decided to switch to a ground assignment in 2099. Amia applied for a wanzer pilot post and was assigned to the Muddy Otters with the OCU Maritime Defense Force (OCU MDF) two years later.
----
* AcePilot: Downplayed. While she wasn't the best pilot ever, she's the one most experienced with aircrafts in the main cast. Ash and Joyce needed to specifically goad her into helping them when they [[spoiler: stole a transport to fly back to Alordesh]]. She was also the one chosen to fly the transport in [[spoiler: the attack on Deean Air Force Base]].
* ChekhovsSkill: Amia had experience in aviation. Players could see that on her bio, which was accessible from the start. It later turned out to be ''very'' crucial for the plot, as [[spoiler: Ash and Joyce stole a transport to fly back to Alordesh and needed someone to help pilot it (buildup to Mission 10)]]. Much later, it came in handy again when [[spoiler: the Burg Transportation needed someone to fly a transport on the attack on Deean Air Force Base]].
* TheCutie: She's considered attractive InUniverse, and multiple male characters have expressed romantic interest in her and/or commented on her good looks.
* FemmeFatale: Defied. She explicitly said that she wasn't interested in exploiting her good looks for unsavory ends.
* ImprobablePilotingSkills: Averted. Amia explicitly stated that she wasn't experienced with aircrafts enough to pull off the implausible stunts suggested by some of the other characters.
* LivingIsMoreThanSurviving: Somewhat. At first, Amia was the one most eager to just try to stay alive, but [[spoiler: as the story progressed, she actually came to enjoy fighting to protect something other than her own life]].
-->'''Amia''': The people of this country, they've all got something to protect... Family, lovers, the state... But, I have nothing to protect other than my own life... But even so, here I am fighting in this country...
-->'''Ash''': [[ItsAllMyFault That's... my fault...]]
-->'''Amia''': No, it's not. What I can't figure out, is why I like fighting here for some reason...I know I'm fighting to protect something important now. But, I still don't know what that something is...
* MeaningfulName: Her wanzer was nicknamed '''Cute Bird''', which was likely a reference to her interest in aviation.
* TheMedic: Downplayed, but she did seem to be the team's go-to person whenever someone needed first aids, such as when the team [[spoiler: discovered an injured Domingo in the town near Rimian]] and also when [[spoiler: they found the [[ThoughtYouWereDead thought-to-be-dead-but-still-alive]] Lira]].
* TheMentor: Served as this to Saribash's bodyguards.
* MoreDakka: Assault-class. Her unique battle skill "High Speed" can increase the amount of bullets fired from a multi-hit weapon (e.g., machine gun) by up to '''5''' times.
* NiceGirl: She forgave Ash and Joyce rather easily after [[spoiler: the plan to sneak back into Alordesh backfired and caused her to get stranded with Ash and Joyce (instead of being able to just fly back out of the country, as she initially wanted)]]. Also, throughout the game, it's hard to find an instance where Amia actually got mad at someone.
* TrueCompanions: Downplayed. While she liked her fellow Muddy Otters, she wasn't ready to risk her life for their sake, [[spoiler: well, at least initially]]. When Ash and Joyce wanted Amia to fly them back to Alordesh, Joyce had to explicitly assure her that she could just tell others that they forced her to do it (buildup to Mission 10).
* VitriolicBestBuds: Downplayed with Joyce. The two playfully ripped on each other at times, though they're ultimately still friends and regarded each other with respect.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Griff Burnam]]
!!Griff Burnam
[[quoteright:240:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/fm2_griff_burnam.jpg]]
Griff is a Sergeant and a member of the Muddy Otters. He spent much of his career with the OCU Ground Defense Force. In 2092, Burnam was assigned as a wanzer instructor before applying for a switch to the Maritime Defense Force branch in 2101. Griff also appeared in the DS version of Front Mission 1st, where he was assigned to bring OCU troops out of Huffman Island.
----
* TheBigGuy: The physically biggest guy on the Muddy Otters.
* BigGuyFatalitySyndrome: In the very first mission, he pulled a YouShallNotPass to allow the rest of the Muddy Otters to escape. Later subverted in that he actually survived it.
* CloseRangeCombatant: Striker-class.
* DistressedDude: He spent a while being a POW after the fight at Rimian Base (Mission 1), and was later rescued by Lisa and Sayuri (Mission 5).
* FamilyMan: Of the "work-his-ass-off-to-support-his-family" variety. He genuinely cared for his wife and kids. [[spoiler: The main driver for him to smuggle surplus weapons from the MDF was that he was too old to get promoted and he wanted to earn more money for his family]]. Also, he emphathised with Saribash greatly when [[spoiler: Lira appeared to have died, and yelled at [[ConsummateProfessional Lisa and Pike]] for being "cold-blooded" enough to start strategic planning right away]].
-->'''Griff''': H-hey you guys... What the hell are you doing planning at a time like this!
-->'''Pike''': Griff...
-->'''Lisa''': ... What happened to [[spoiler: Lira]] is a pity...but...
-->'''Griff''': A PITY!? Do you have any idea how [[spoiler: Saribash]] must feel!? [[spoiler: His daughter]] was killed right in front of his own eyes!! But you guys are just sitting here planning!?
* FriendToAllChildren: Griff happily donated to fund the young man Rick - who was a very talented engineer [[WellDoneSonGuy desperate to get his father's approval]] (thus in need of money to realize his designs). [[spoiler: Rick eventually built the Jaboa wazner]].
* GentleGiant: He's one of the bigger guys in the main cast. Meanwhile, he's also one of the nicer guys and was [[FriendToAllChildren friendly to children]]. [[spoiler: Later somewhat subverted as he was revealed to have been smuggling arms from the MDF]].
* HappilyMarried: To his Japanese wife. He even moved to Japan (Fukuoka, to be specific) and at one point invited Ash to come visit his family in there.
* MeaningfulName: His wanzer was nicknamed '''Kasumi''', [[FamilyMan after his wife]].
* MightyWhiteyAndMellowYellow: A big, burly white guy married to a Japanese woman.
* RapidFireFisticuffs: His unique battle skill "Beat Up" in a nutshell. As long as he's a melee weapon in both arms, this skill would allow him to punch enemy for up to '''4''' times in a single attack. This would most likely be an OneHitKill on a regular enemy.
* StoutStrength: A bulky guy who's a strong Striker-class pilot.
* TeamDad: To the Muddy Otters.
* TrueCompanions: To the point that he willingly sacrificed himself so that Ash, Joyce and Amia could flee. After being rescued by Lisa and Sayuri, he still chose to stay in Alordesh to look for his fellow Muddy Otters. [[spoiler: Later subverted in that he was in truth staying for his little arms smuggling businesss]].
* YouShallNotPass: Pulled one of these at the end of the fight at Rimian Base (Mission 1), allowing Ash, Joyce, and Amia to escape.
[[/folder]]

!!OCU GDF 89th Mobile Battalion "Dull Stags"
[[folder:Thomas Norland]]
!!Thomas Norland
[[quoteright:240:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/thomas_norland.jpg]]
Thomas Norland was stationed on Huffman Island during the Huffman Crisis, where he patrolled the Mail River Border. During this time, he met fellow OCU soldier Domingo Kyatt and the two quickly became friends. When the Second Huffman Conflict broke out, Thomas fought bravely for the OCU and was promoted to the rank of Captain by the time the war ended. Following his promotion, Thomas was stationed in Alordesh as the squad leader of the OCU GDF 89th Mobile Battalion, the Dull Stags.
----
* TheAce: Thomas apppeared to be a very capable military commander, seeing that he served as the tactical leader for [[spoiler: the eventual combined Burg Transportation team, which already consisted of talented individuals such as Ash and Lisa]].
* TheAlcoholic: Seemed to be quite into alcohol.
* {{Antihero}}: The closest to this among the three main characters (Ash, Thomas, and Lisa). He secretly worked for Saribash in illegal activities, and [[spoiler: robbed Lisa and her team]].
* BoisterousBruiser: He has a bulky build and is a strong Striker-class pilot. Meanwhile, many of his lines had him laughing. Somewhat subverted in that he was [[{{Antihero}} more malicious]] than typical examples of this trope.
* TheCaptain: To the Dull Stags.
* ChekhovsGunman: He showed up in Front Mission 2089.
* CloseRangeCombatant: Striker-class.
* CurbStompBattle: Inflicted this on Roswell whenever the two played poker.
* DistressedDude: In his backstory, Thomas became this once during the Second Huffman Conflict. It ended with him being rescued by Domingo, causing the two to become good friends.
* GeniusBruiser: He was a burly guy and a strong Striker-class pilot. Meanwhile, he also served as the main strategic brain for [[spoiler: the eventual combined Burg Transportation team]].
* HeterosexualLifePartners: With Saribash. The two had known each other for a long time, and it was obvious that they genuinely trusted each other.
-->'''Joyce''': I don't trust this guy (Saribash) either. He might sell us out to the coup forces.
-->'''Thomas''': It's only because you guys don't know Saribash that you'd say that.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He felt zero loyalty to anyone except for his friends and himself, and [[spoiler: backstabbed Lisa's team without much remorse]]. Nonetheless, from time to time, he showed that he wasn't a bad person, after all. Examples included [[spoiler: when he helped a group of refugees escape in one of the secret missions]]. And when [[spoiler: the team learnt that the OCU was planning to use Alordesh as a lab rat for testing [[WeaponOfMassDestruction FENRIR]], he came along to help anyway]].
* TheLeader: To the trio of himself, Rocky, and Roswell. Also the on-field leader to [[spoiler: the eventual combined Burg Transportation team]].
* MeaningfulName: A minor thing. Thomas was incredibly good at pokers, and his wanzer was nicknamed '''Ace Joker''', presumably as a reference to that.
* MyCountryRightOrWrong: '''Averted'''. Thomas didn't feel any loyalty towards the OCU. For much of the story, his only goal was to [[OnlyInItForTheMoney make money]] working with Saribash and look out for his friends. He would [[spoiler: happily betray OCU forces if doing so could benefit him and his friends]].
-->'''Sayuri''': It seems there is no patriot among you!
-->'''Thomas''': Listen girly, the OCU is made up of ten-odd countries. Just which one are we supposed to be patriotic towards?
* OnlyInItForTheMoney: For much of the story, Thomas's primary motivation was to make money from what the team was doing. Examples included when [[spoiler: he happily tagged along to pursue FENRIR upon knowing that FENRIR might be with Griff's "treasure stash" (Mission 17)]].
* PlayingCardMotifs: He's associated with poker cards, which appeared on his crest (shown on his wanzer's shoulder shield, if it had one). And his wanzer was nicknamed '''Ace Joker''', as mentioned.
* RedOniBlueOni: At times the Blue to Saribash's Red. There were several instances where Saribash got emotional, only for Thomas to try to calm him. E.g., [[spoiler: after the Dhaka bombing which killed a large number of civilians, the Burg Transportation captured Ven, and Saribash (understandably) started shouting at Ven for (presumably) ordering the bombing. Thomas, meanwhile, tried to calm Saribash down]].
* StopOrIWillShoot: [[spoiler: He pulled one of these on Lisa's team after the battle to help OCU officials evacuate (Mission 8)]].
* StoutStrength: One of the burlier guys on the main cast.
* ThereIsNoKillLikeOverkill: His unique battle skill "2LV damage". It allowed him to deal an amount of damage (using melee weapon) proportional to his levels. At the highest level, it could easily deal more than enough damage to destroy an enemy body part several time over.
* TrueCompanions: With Rocky and Roswell. [[spoiler: He did voluntarily come along when Rocky decided to go off to avenge Gleny, after all]].
* YoungerThanTheyLook: This guy was only ''47'' at the time of the main event of ''2''.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Rocky Armitage]]
!!Rocky Armitage
[[quoteright:240:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rocky_armitage.jpg]]
Rocky joined the OCU military as a volunteer in 2091, and was promoted to the rank of private second class just a year later in 2092. He was later promoted to the rank of sergeant in 2099. In 2100, he was offered a promotion to the rank of second lieutenant, but refused and instead transferred to the OCU Ramanston base in Alordesh, where he was assigned to the Dull Stags.
----
* ADayInTheLimelight: Rocky was a supporting character, but [[spoiler: the secret mission where the Dull Stags hunted down Royd Clive]] was very much focused on Rocky's [[RoaringRampageOfRevenge quest for revenge]].
* TheBigGuy: Within the Dull Stags. He was a great fighter, but tended not to get himself truly involved in strategic planning or major decision-making. He's the tallest person in this group too.
* ChekhovsGunman: He [[spoiler: showed up first in the ''Front Line Report'' novel. There, he was assigned to pursue [[BrokenHero Royd Clive]], who was by then a terrorist fighting against the supernations. Rocky later appeared in ''2'' as a member of the [[RagtagBunchOfMisfits Dull Stags]], alongside Thomas Norland and Roswell Tarana. Oh, and in here, he's tasked with pursuing the now full-on mass-murderer Royd and ended up killing our beloved Hero of Huffman]].
* CloseRangeCombatant: Is a Striker-class pilot.
* ExtremeDoormat: At times. For much of the story, he just followed Thomas and Roswell around, going along with whatever the latter two were up to, and often [[TheQuietOne quietly]], thus giving off this impression. [[spoiler: He did get to play a [[ADayInTheLimelight focal role]] during the secret mission, in which the Dull Stags hunted down Royd, who had killed Rocky's old friend Gleny]].
* IncompatibleOrientation: [[spoiler: Rocky developed a crush on Ash over the course of the story. Much to Rocky's dismay, Ash seemed to be completely straight]].
-->'''Rocky''': So you came... Ash...
-->'''Ash''': Yeah, so what's this about?
-->'''Rocky''': Listen to me, Ash!
-->'''Ash''': Eh? What is it?
-->'''Rocky''': You... You've got a past that's too awful to talk about, even to us... But even so you're the type of man who is [[NiceGuy kind to everyone you meet]]... Looking at a man like you, I...
-->'''Ash''': H-hang on Rocky. What...
-->'''Rocky''': I understand how you feel... I doubt you'll share my feelings... But, surviving tomorrow's battle will be tougher than anything we've been through before... That's why before I die I want to let you know how I feel...
* ManlyTears: Shed this when [[spoiler: he learnt that Gleny died]].
* MeaningfulName: He nicknamed his wanzer '''Jack Arms'''.
* TheQuietOne: Rocky was one of the less talkative members of the main cast. Most of the time he was even less talkative than [[TheQuietOne Ash]], using only his facial expressions to give hints of what he's feeling.
* RapidFireFisticuffs: His unique battle skill "MG Blow". This skill allowed him to punch the enemy for up to '''4''' times in a single attack, and unlike "Beat Up", didn't require him to have melee weapons on both hands. This could easily lead to an OneHitKill if used on a regular enemy.
* RoaringRampageOfRevenge: [[spoiler: Was on this for his friend Gleny during the secret mission. It actually went pretty well for him, unfortunately for Royd]].
* StraightGay: [[spoiler: He developed a crush on the male lead, but had shown no campy mannerism]].
* TallDarkAndHandsome: He's slightly darker skin than the other OCU Australian characters, and is 6'2'' tall.
* TrueCompanions: With Gleny. Also with Thomas and Roswell.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Roswell Tarana]]
!!Roswell Tarana
[[quoteright:240:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/roswell_tarana.jpg]]
Roswell Tarana was an OCU sergeant and a member of the Dull Stags. Originally from the EC, he enlisted with the OCU military in 2090 and was assigned ground duty. In 2100, Tarana transferred to the Dull Stags stationed at the Ramanston base in OCU Alordesh.
----
* AbhorrentAdmirer: Downplayed. Throughout the main events of ''2'', Roswell regularly flirted with Amia. Amia didn't feel romantic interest in him, although she seemed to find him more annoying than outright abhorrent.
* ChivalrousPervert: Roswell made it ''very'' clear that he's romantically interested in Amia, but he never did anything that crossed the line, and was very courteous towards her. At one point, Amia actually agreed to go on a pseudo-date with him.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: His mind often seemed... a little out there. [[spoiler: That might be the reason he was the one to come up with the plan to attack Deean Air Force Base using a single transport plane (buildup to Mission 23)]].
-->'''Roswell''': I agree with Miss Amia. After all, I always defer to the will of a beautiful woman...
-->'''Amia''': ...
* CurbStompBattle: He came to the receiving end of this whenever he played poker against Thomas, much to his annoyance.
* GratuitousItalian: He nicknamed his wanzer '''Bilancia''', which means "Balance" in Italian.
* LongRangeFighter: The Dull Stags' resident Missileer-class pilot.
* MultipleChoicePast: Players could check the character bios via the in-game network feature, and Roswell's bio had ''very'' obviously been tempered with.
-->'''Amia''': Where are you from anyway?
-->'''Roswell''': That's a s-e-c-r-e-t.
* PlayfulHacker: Said tampering consists of (mis)information that is clearly not meant to be taken seriously, such as being a three time winner of a chil beauty pageant in Japan and being tapped as the next Commander in Chief of the OCU Defense Forces.
* RecurringElement: He's a skilled hacker with an irreverent personality who specializes in missile weapons and comes up with unconventional battle plans at pivotal moments in the campaign, not unlike Hans from the first game.
* ScrewThisImOuttaHere: Tried to convince Rocky to pull out with him after [[spoiler: the battle at Central Dhaka (Mission 20), where Lira apparently died]]. [[spoiler: It didn't work]].
* TheSmartGuy: Within the Dull Stags. He's skilled with hacking, and he's also the one who [[spoiler: came up with the plan to attack Deean Air Force Base using a single transport plane]].
* TechnoWizard: Seemed to be quite skilled with hacking.
* ThereIsNoKillLikeOverkill: His unique battle skill "Destruct", which could increase the power of a long-range attack by up to '''200%'''. For most regular enemy, this could easily destroy the body part in a single hit.
* TrueCompanions: With Thomas and Rocky. [[spoiler: He did voluntarily come along when Rocky decided to go off to avenge Gleny, after all]].

!!Andrew F. Hordman
[[quoteright:240:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/fm2_andrew_hordman.jpg]]
Leader of the Dull Stags. He spent much of the first half of the story helping to rescue OCU soldiers stranded in Alordesh, and also being [[DudeWheresMyRespect annoyed that he received little respect]] from Lisa Stanley and Domingo Kyatt. [[spoiler: He later went missing (likely [[KilledOffForReal got killed]]) when the Alordeshi army ordered a large-scale air strike on Dhaka, annihilating the OCU forces there]].
----
* ButtMonkey: Somewhat. He's generally shown to be incompetent. He also regularly came to the receiving end of disrespect from other characters, most notably Domingo and to a lesser extent Lisa.
* ColonelBadass: Inverted. As far as colonels in the series went, Hordman was rather inept.
--> (An operation to rescue OCU politicians begins, under Hordman's leadership.)
--> '''Cordy''' (staring at the dense enemy forces): There're so many of them!
--> '''Lisa''' (frowning): I know, this hardly looks like a rescue mission to me...
* DudeWheresMyRespect: Being a colonel, he naturally expected Lisa and Domingo to show him respect. They didn't (and in fact had the power not to), much to his annoyance. Organizing the rescue operation on Dhaka (Mission 7) seemed to partly be an attempt to gain respect.
* KilledOffForReal: [[spoiler: After the Alordeshi army bombed Dhaka, wiping out the OCU forces stationed in the city, Hordman was said to have gone missing (Mission 15). He was most likely killed in the bombing]].
* TheLeader: To the Dull Stags.
* MightyGlacier: To his credits, Hordman did go onto battlefield with his soldiers quite frequently. Whenever he did, he was usually piloting something heavily-armored but (relatively) slow.

[[folder:Lisa Stanley]]
!!Lisa Stanley
[[quoteright:240:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lisa_stanley.jpg]]
Lisa was a Captain and a special intelligence officer with the OCU Intelligence Agency. Lisa attended officer's school in 2093 and graduated with honors in 2095. Shortly after, she was assigned to the Intelligence Agency and has proven herself in many espionage operations.
----
* TheAce: She was said to have proved herself in many operations. In the story, she was shown to be more competent than the resident OCU colonel (Hordman), e.g., she correctly realized that the "rescue operation" on Dhaka (Mission 7) wasn't exactly the brightest idea.
* AMillionIsAStatistic: Deliberately '''averted'''. After [[spoiler: Lira seemed to have died, Lisa and Pike began planning right away, only to be yelled at by the emotional Griff. Then she pointed out that if they didn't plan and move, there would be many more (unnamed) victims than (the very named and very focused-on) Lira]].
--> '''Lisa''': If we stop our search for [[spoiler: FENRIR]] now, there will be even more victims... Not just [[spoiler: Lira]], so many more...
* AnimalMotifs: If her wanzer is equipped with a shoulder shield, the crest will be a fox. This is quite fitting given her role as an intelligence officier, meaning that she constantly [[GuileHero needs to use her cunning]].
* BadassNormal: Lisa eventually obtained [[spoiler: the [[SuperPrototype final Raven]], and this version didn't rely on BD technology to have maximum combat performance]].
* TheCaptain
* ConsummateLiar: A non-pathological example. Being trained in espionage, Lisa naturally had to tell half-truths in some situations. But she's ultimately a decent person.
* ConsummateProfessional: She stayed calm in many emotional situations, such as [[spoiler: when Lira seemed to have died, she and Pike started strategic planning right away, instead of grieving like Saribash]]. Most of her dialogues in early parts of the story were just giving instructions (usually to [[TheLancer Sayuri]] and Griff) or reporting her work (usually to Hordman).
* DefrostingIceQueen: Lisa at first came across as somewhat cold and distant, especially when matters of her mission were brought up. But as the story progressed, she began to show her more emotional and human side.
* GuileHero: Being an intelligence officer, she naturally relies on her wits, though she's still quite capable in combat situations.
* {{Heroic BSoD}}: Downplayed. [[spoiler: After their attack on Deean Air Force Base (Mission 23) ended in the Alordeshi Army's defeat, Lisa knew that this meant the OCU could now have their ways with Alordesh... which meant Alordeshis would suffer even more. Having helped take down the Alordeshi Army, Lisa briefly entered a state of intense guilt, though she wasn't completely put out of action]].
* TheIdealist: Downplayed, but she did seem to genuinely believe in OCU's globalist ideal to some degree. [[spoiler: She lost faith in this ideal over the course of the story]].
* TheLeader: To the team consisting of herself, Sayuri, and Cordy.
* LongRangeFighter: Missileer-class.
* MacrossMissileMassacre: Her unique battle skill "Shooting Star". It made her fire off all of the remaining ammos in a long-range weapon and would result in this trope when used with missiles.
* MeaningfulName: Her wanzer was nicknamed '''Topaz''', a typically gold-yellow gemstone.
* MyCountryRightOrWrong: Played with. At first, Lisa was loyal to the OCU, but became cold and distant whenever her mission was brought up (as pointed out by Griff). This gave off hints that she wasn't entirely comfortable with what she's assigned to do, i.e., [[spoiler: to track down [[WeaponOfMassDestruction FENRIR]]]]. Later, after escaping with her team and [[spoiler: Maylan]], she confessed that [[spoiler: she was [[NotSoStoic terrified]] by FENRIR and intended to destroy it, as opposed to what her bosses wanted her to do]]. As mentioned in {{Heroic BSoD}} above, she [[spoiler: only grew more and more doubtful of her loyalty to the OCU as the story progressed]]. [[spoiler: Eventually, she decided that she didn't want to continue doing the OCU's (very shady) biddings anymore. When she learnt that the FENRIR field test was about to begin, she defied her boss's order to flee]].
* NervesOfSteel: Played with. At first, Lisa seemed to be one of the less emotional of the characters, but right before [[spoiler: the attack on Deean Air Force Base (Mission 23), she admitted that her legs started shaking whenever she was about to go into battle, but it was hidden by the fact that she was in a wanzer. Which then resulted in ''everyone present'' to admit that they experienced the same thing]].
--> '''Sayuri''': ... You nervous?
--> '''Ash''': N-no, it's not that.
--> '''Lisa''': Ash, I'll give you a tip. They say that a commander always has to maintain his cool, but honestly, that's a lie.
--> '''Ash''': A lie?
--> '''Lisa''': Yeah! Take a look at Thomas. Always spouting his lousy jokes!!
--> '''Ash''': [[TheQuietOne ...]]
--> '''Lisa''': But, when it comes to tactical operations he's [[TheLeader more reliable than anyone else]]. Am I right?
--> '''Ash''': Yeah... For sure...
--> '''Lisa''': [[spoiler: Or take me. When I'm about to go into battle, my legs start shaking. Since I'm in a wanzer no one can see it, but they do]].
--> '''Sayuri''': Whoa! I never knew!!
--> '''Cordy''': [[spoiler: Mine shake]] too.
--> '''Sayuri''': No way!!
--> '''Lisa''': Haha... so listen Ash, even though you're nervous right now, you still might have the makings of a great commander.
--> '''Ash''' ([[DefrostingIceKing smiles]]): Thanks Lisa. I feel a bit better now.
--> '''Lisa''': Glad I could help.
* NiceGirl: She's ultimately this.
* OhCrap: Her response upon learning that Hordman came up with the less-than-bright idea of attacking the capital (buildup to Mission 7).
* RedOniBlueOni: The Blue to Sayuri's Red. Sayuri was ''much'' easier to manipulate than Lisa, the prime example being the encounter with Development Head Lupo. Lupo effortlessly goaded Sayuri into helping him do field tests on some wanzer equipment by acting chauvinist, while Lisa and Cordy {{Facepalm}}ed as they watched the whole thing.
* ShipTease: Had some with Ash, though no romance officially occurred between them during the events of ''2''.
* TheSmartGirl: She spent a lot of time providing intel and/or doing strategic planning, particularly within [[spoiler: the eventual combined Burg Transportation Team]].
[[/folder]]

!!Sayuri Mitsuzuka
[[quoteright:240:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/fm2_sayuri_mitsuzuka.jpg]]
Sayuri was a Second Lieutenant and Lisa's adjutant in the OCU Intelligence Agency, where she joined in 2101. Sayuri previously served as an infantryman with the regular army and proved her worth by helping her company retreat after a failed operation in Belgrade.
----
* AudienceSurrogate: Most notable in early parts of the story. Being less experienced than Lisa, Sayuri often asked Lisa questions that the audience would ask.
* ChekhovsGunman: She [[spoiler: first appeared in the ''Front Line Report'' novel, where she was revealed to be the daughter of [[TagalongReporter Frederick Lancaster]], who joined the Canyon Crows and exposed the dirty businesses behind the Second Huffman Conflict. Two years after the novel's release, Sayuri showed up in ''2'', in which she, along with Lisa Stanley, were sent to investigate the Alordesh coup d'etat]].
* DeathOrGloryAttack: Her unique battle skill "Super Lucky". It is intended to be used with multi-hit weapons (e.g., machine guns), increasing damage for each consecutive hit and decreasing damage for each consecutive miss. It was more hit-or-miss compared to most other unique battle skills.
* {{Determinator}}: As Lisa put it:
--> '''Lisa''': Once she's (Sayuri) set her mind on to something, there's no turning back.
* HotBlooded: She could be riled up rather easily.
* KindheartedCatLover: Seemed to be fond of cats, as indicated by the fact that her crest (shown on her wanzer's shoulder shield) was a cat and that her wanzer was nicknamed '''Bold Cat'''.
* TheLancer: To Lisa. Sayuri was primarily there to support Lisa. She also [[{{Foil}} contrasted]] Lisa in many ways in terms of personality, such as being [[RedOniBlueOni more emotional]], as opposed to the more calm and collected Lisa.
* MoreDakka: Assault-class.
* MyCountryRightOrWrong: Same as Lisa, Sayuri started at being quite patriotic towards the OCU, and at one point even berated Thomas for not being patriotic enough. [[spoiler: This changed over the course of the story]].
* NotSoStoic: Well, Sayuri had always been quite emotional, but she had a particularly notable moment when [[spoiler: Saribash tried to go off to kill Ven as Lira appeared to have died from TakingTheBullet for Ven - Sayuri called Saribash out for recklessly trying to act, stating that getting himself killed would only make his daughter Lira more sad. This likely had something to do with her relationship with her father [[MarriedToTheJob Frederick]] [[SecretChaser Lancaster]]]].
* RedOniBlueOni: The Red to Lisa's Blue. Sayuri was much more eager to fight the champion (Cordy) during the events in Daukandei, for instance, and was in general more emotional than Lisa.
--> (Lisa, Sayuri, and Griff were trying to talk to the arena champion, who's Sayuri's contact.)
--> '''Lisa''': Looks like we won't be getting in... what should we do? Wait until the matches are over?
--> '''Sayuri''': No way! Once the matches are over my contact will head home. It'll be too hard to catch the champ after that.
--> '''Lisa''': Well then, what should we do...
--> '''Sayuri''' (smiles): Simple. I'll challenge the champ.
--> '''Lisa''': W-wait a minute, Sayuri!
--> '''Griff''': She's already gone...
--> '''Lisa''': Christ...
* TagAlongKid: Well, she's technically an adult during the main events of ''2''. But her impulsivity ([[RedOniBlueOni especially compared to the cool-headed Lisa]]) and somewhat childlike physique gave her this vibe. Thomas even {{Lampshaded}} this by calling her "girly".

[[folder:Pike A. Reischauer]]
!!Pike A. Reischauer
[[quoteright:240:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/pike_reischauer.jpg]]
Pike A. Reischauer is an intelligence officer working for the OCU Central Parliament's intelligence network, the Central Intelligence Unit (CIU). Shortly after the outbreak of the Alordesh coup d'état, he was sent to the country to assess the nation's conditions and assist survivors from the OCU military.
----
* BadassInANiceSuit: Pike's immaculate suit didn't make him any less dangerous as a wanzer pilot. In fact, the first time Pike appeared, Ash even commented on how strange it was for some man in suit to be probing around for info on a military ship, surrounded by OCU soldiers who had just escaped from Alordesh (buildup to Mission 10).
* BigGood: To an extent. After [[spoiler: the Burg Transportation managed to stop the [[WeaponOfMassDestruction FENRIR]] field test on Alordesh, Pike used his connections with the CIU to stop Ash and co. from being immediately thrown into prisons (or worse, assassinated). That bought the crew some time so they could expose the OCU's wrongdoings to the public]].
* ConsummateLiar: As a trained intelligence officer, Pike naturally wasn't very inclined to just tell other people everything he knew.
--> '''Mechanic''': Whoa, you shocked me there. Just who the hell are you?
--> '''Pike''': Does it really matter?
--> '''Mechanic''': Heh, I guess not...
* ConsummateProfessional: He and Lisa were the only characters to start strategic planning right away after [[spoiler: [[TheHeart Lira]] appeared to have died]]. As an intelligence officer, he almost always gave away less info than he actually knew.
* FedoraOfAsskicking: Wears one.
* InTheBack: His unique battle skill "Back Attack" invoked this trope. Mechanically, this skill slightly increases damage while greatly reducing enemy evasion.
* LongRangeFighter: Missileer-class.
* MeaningfulName: He nicknamed his wanzer '''Basurero''', which is Spanish for "garbage".
* MrExposition: Somewhat. Being an intelligence officer, Pike naturally knew a lot of important info that the other characters didn't know about. Him providing such info on several occasions helped explain certain plot elements. Examples included his knowledge about [[spoiler: what Intergehen was]].
* NervesOfSteel: For starter, he actually managed to ''smile'' even when [[spoiler: Amia had to do an emergency landing when flying him, Ash, and Joyce into Alordesh (buildup to Mission 10)]].
* PerpetualSmiler: His default expression was a somewhat smug smile.
* TheSmartGuy: His main job for much of the story was to provide crucial info and also to help with strategic planning.

Cordy Hoffa is an OCU intelligence officer and an arena fighter. She worked alongside Sayuri Mitsuzuka as infantrymen during Serbian Independence War. Although official records state that she left the OCU military, Hoffa in actuality transferred to an OCU GDFIA post. Cordy became an arena fighter in Alordesh to maintain her cover with the OCU GDFIA.
----
* TheAce: An undefeatable arena champion.
* TheBigGal: Especially within the trio of herself, Lisa, and Sayuri. She's the most combat-oriented person within this group.
* BloodKnight: Cordy seemed to genuinely enjoy fighting in the arena. She got quite excited when told that there was an arena in [[spoiler: the town near Rimian]].
* BoyishShortHair
* BrutalHonesty: Subverted. During [[spoiler: Lisa's episode of guilt after having helped take down the Alordeshi army, Lisa wondered if she was cut for the intelligence business. Cordy responded with a rather blunt "that might be true"... and then opined that Lisa was a better human being because of it]].
--> '''Cordy''' (to Lisa): If you didn't feel anything after what has happened, I'd hate you. In fact, I'd probably want to kill you.
* CloseRangeCombatant: Striker-class.
* InstantSedation: Her unique battle skill "Crusader" instantly stunned the enemy, apart from increasing the power of the attack.
* MeaningfulName: She nicknamed her wanzer '''Durabler'''.
* NervesOfSteel: When Lisa first met Cordy in Daukandei, she asked Cordy about the mysterious Rimian Base container. Then Cordy expressed curiosity about the container's content. And when Lisa told her that knowing about it would put her in danger, this was how Cordy responded:
--> '''Lisa''': If you knew what was in it, you'd be put in danger.
--> '''Cordy''': Ha! Is there anyone in my line of work who isn't in danger?
** It's later somewhat subverted when Lisa [[spoiler: admitted that her legs shook whenever she was about to go into battle, Cordy admitted that she experienced the same thing]].
* RedOniBlueOni: The Blue to Sayuri's Red. As mentioned, during the whole sequence with Development Head Lupo, Cordy was there doing {{Facepalm}}s alongside Lisa as Lupo manipulated Sayuri into doing his biddings.
* SamusIsAGirl: After Sayuri beat Cordy at the Daukandei arena, Cordy took off her helmet, and Griff was a bit surprised to find out that Cordy was a woman.

Domingo Kyatt was an OCU Major and a long-time friend of Thomas Norland, having fought in the Second Huffman Conflict with Thomas. During the events of ''2'', he was tasked with rescuing OCU soldiers stranded in Alordesh. [[spoiler: However, he was, in truth, leader of the special operations unit Dark Geese]].

[[spoiler: During his experience in the Second Huffman Conflict, Domingo, like many others, became disillusioned with the OCU and joined the [[WesternTerrorists Grimnir]]. Domingo nonetheless didn't abandon his post and continued to work as a DoubleAgent. Domingo was tasked with tracking down and killing everyone aware of Franz Henschel and Intergehen. After the coup, the Dark Geese then brought Ash and co. aboard an OCU Aircraft Carrier departing to OCU Australia and attempted to kill them. This was thwarted and Domingo died, admonishing them that Grimnir would hunt them for the rest of their lives]].

* MyCountryRightOrWrong: [[spoiler: Played with. He was said to have experienced a loss of loyalty to the OCU in his backstory]].
* NiceGuy: In his first in-game appearance, he came across as this, as he was working to save OCU prisoners and bought dinner for the group at one point. He remained nice to Ash and co. for most of the story, [[spoiler: until, well, he attempted to kill them for knowing about Intergehen]].
* RogueSoldier: [[spoiler:In league with Grimnir while publicly operating as an OCU soldier.]]
* TallDarkAndHandsome: This guy was 6'5'', towering over all of the other major characters.

[[folder:Ven Mackarge]]
!!Ven Mackarge
[[quoteright:227:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ven_mackarge.jpg]]
Ven Mackarge was a lieutenant colonel in the Alordeshi Army. Disdainful of Alordesh's impoverished state, he orchestrated the plan to declare independence from the OCU and renamed the country's military as "The Revolutionary Army of Alordesh". Through an elaborate and well-executed plan, Mackarge held the nation hostage after overwhelming OCU forces in Alordesh.
----
* TheAce: In the opening of ''2'''s story, Ven orchestrated the violent coup d'etat that involved anti-OCU soldiers doing timed attack on OCU bases, ''across the whole Alordesh'', ''in a single night''. This firmly established that Ven was a very capable military commander and a huge threat.
* AntagonisticOffspring: Ven was the adopted son of Saribash, who led the Burg Transportation force that [[spoiler: eventually took down the Alordeshi Army]].
* TheBigBad: He was the leader of the coup d'etat force. He also spent much time leading Alordeshi soldiers on the field as they fought the Burg Transportation. [[spoiler: Later subverted as it turned out Ven was just a puppet to the [[TheManBehindTheMan true brains behind the coup d'etat]]]].
* ColonelBadass: Well, a lieutenant colonel, technically. Over the course of ''2'''s main event, Ven fought Ash and co. more than ten times and survived ''every'' instance Ash and co. blew up his machines.
* CulturedBadass: Ven apparently had a love for poetry, as indicated by some of [[TheLancer Maylan]]'s dialogues.
* DeathEqualsRedemption: Somewhat. After [[WeaponOfMassDestruction FENRIR]] had been "launched" into space (Mission 26), Ven was [[YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness no longer useful for the OCU]], who were trying to use the coup d'etat as a front for testing FENRIR. They promptly had the [[TheMenInBlack Dark Geese]] kill Ven. As he died in anguish, Ven realized how he had been manipulated the whole time. Then right before his death, he told Ash and co. that Lira was in truth still alive.
* {{Determinator}}: Even [[spoiler: after the disaster at Deean Air Force Base ended in the Alordeshi Army's defeat, Ven still hadn't given up on his revolution]].
--> '''Thomas''': It looks like Ven is still at it. Is there any way we can talk him out of it?
--> '''Saribash''': I doubt we could until the very last of his fighting strength was gone.
* EvilCounterpart: Arguably this to Ash. Ven was a [[TheAce talented]] and [[MyCountryRightOrWrong patriotic]] (towards Alordesh) young man pursuing a career in the military... just like Ash. However, Ven was... a little too eager to use violence to achieve his goal. [[spoiler: While Ash turned down an invitation to support the First Alordeshi Coup D'etat, Ven happily got himself manipulated into starting the Second Coup D'etat. The coup d'etat later (unintended by Ven) caused the mass deaths of Alordeshi soldiers ''and'' civilians. Then Ven died in anguish once the OCU stopped finding him useful. Had Ash been more inclined to use force to help Alordesh, Ven was what he could easily have ended up as]].
* {{Foil}}: To his adopted father Saribash. They both desired a better future for Alordesh, but while Saribash tried to do this via more peaceful means, Ven went for a far more violent route.
--> '''Lira''': Ven hates the OCU. My father feels the same way...
* HappilyAdopted: By Saribash in his backstory.
--> '''Joyce''': Do you hate him (Ven)?
--> '''Saribash''': [[spoiler: I can hate Ven for the sake of all the people who have died in this coup d'etat. However, at the same time, I also love him like my own son... If someone has to kill Ven, I'll do it...]]
* TheIdealist: Genuinely believed in his vision of a better Alordesh. [[spoiler: During the attack on Deean Air Force Base, Ven learnt that General Gwianda (the [[ManBehindTheMan true brain]] behind the coup d'etat) didn't really care for Alordesh and planned to flee with FENRIR. Knowing that the revolution had differed from his original ideal, Ven offed the general and ran away with a small company of Alordeshi Army]].
--> '''Gwianda''': It's just as [[spoiler: Mr. Henschel]] says. We still have [[spoiler: FENRIR]].
--> '''Ven''': FENRIR!! You fool! You won't stop at [[spoiler: burning the capital with your bombers]], but now go so far as to use that disgusting device!?
--> '''Gwianda''': It is all for the Motherland.
--> '''Ven''': [[BigNo No]]!! All that will accomplish is burning this country to the ground.
--> '''Gwianda''': [[spoiler: If this country is destroyed, we will simply capture another. Such is the power of FENRIR]].
--> '''Ven''': ...!!
* KilledOffForReal: [[spoiler: Courtesy of the Dark Geese]].
* TheLeader: To the coup d'etat forces, whether on-field or off-field. [[spoiler: Though it was slightly subverted in that he was just a puppet to the real BigBad of the story]].
* MightyGlacier: At one point, Ven piloted [[spoiler: the [=ISV09A-S=] Bismillah, whose name meant "in the name of God" in Arabic, and the namesake mech was appropriately godly in terms of health, weapon loadout, skills, and immunity to status anomalies. While it couldn't move in battle, expect a OneHitKill when you encounter this twice]]. More generally, Ven seemed to have a thing for mobile weapons that were powerful, heavily armored, but (relatively) slow, piloting such machines in many of his on-field appearances.
* MyCountryRightOrWrong: He genuinely cared for his home country Alordesh, and felt much resentment after seeing Alordesh's suffering under the OCU.
* NobleDemon: While Ven was an antagonist, there was little doubt that he had his principles. For instance, he was against harming civilians, despite being quite ruthless against OCU soldiers. [[spoiler: He wasn't too pleased with the Dhaka bombing, either]].
* PayEvilUntoEvil: [[spoiler: He killed Gwianda as the latter was trying to flee with FENRIR, and Gwianda was the one who ordered the Dhaka bombing and basically framed Ven for it]].
* RogueSoldier: Mackarge leads rogue Alordeshi soldiers against pro-government and OCU forces.
* TheScapegoat: [[spoiler: The Dhaka bombing, which killed thousands of civilians, was in truth ordered by [[TheManBehindTheMan General Gwianda]]. But people blamed Ven for it since he was the (apparent) leader of the coup d'etat forces]].
* SiblingYinYang: To his adopted sister Lira. Lira was [[TheQuietOne quiet]] and reserved, coming across as [[ExtremeDoormat very submissive]] at times, while Ven was ''very'' willing to take up leadership roles and get violent. However, the two genuinely cared for each other. [[spoiler: Lira even tried to break Ven out after he was captured by the Burg Transportation]].
* TrueCompanions: With [[TheLancer Maylan]]. [[spoiler: Ven even told Maylan about the passwords he used for exchanges with Intergehen]].
* VillainWithGoodPublicity: As per the norm of the series, very few characters could be considered truly "evil". But Ven was an antagonist, and he was liked by many Alordeshi people who were sick and tired of the OCU's treatment of their country, so he fit this trope. [[spoiler: Well, he was well-liked until the Dhaka bombing, which resulted in thousands of civilian deaths as public opinion of the Revolutionary Army turned sour]].
* {{Warhawk}}: Happily supported a violent coup d'etat against the OCU.
* WellIntentionedExtremist: There's little doubt that Ven really wanted to improve the lives of the Alordeshi people. It's just that he was using ''very violent'' means to achieve it. [[spoiler: He's also after the [[WeaponOfMassDestruction FENRIR]], so he might not be against outright threatening to use WMD against the OCU, either]].
* WhatTheHellHero: Ven's goal was supposedly to pursue a better future for Alordesh, but then [[spoiler: there was the Dhaka bombing that killed thousands of Alordeshi civilians]]. [[spoiler: It was actually ordered by Gwianda, not Ven]].
--> '''Saribash''' (To [[spoiler: the captured]] Ven): Ven! Just what the hell have you been up to all this time? Is your idea (of bettering Alordesh) to indiscriminately bomb this country to pieces!?
--> '''Ven''': How many times do I have to tell you? I wasn't the one who ordered the bombing.
* YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness: [[spoiler: After FENRIR had been successfully "launched" into space, the OCU no longer found Ven useful, since they were just using Ven and his revolution as a cover for the FENRIR field test. They promptly had the Dark Geese kill Ven]].

!!Maylan Malda
[[quoteright:240:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/maylan_malda.jpg]]
Maylan Malda is a captain for the Alordeshi Army. He enlisted in the service in 2084 and worked in many posts over the years. Malda became a supporter of the military's revolt against the OCU and the movement for a free Alordesh. [[spoiler: Maylan became disillusioned over the brutal methodologies used by the Alordeshi Army. Believing that the Alordeshi Army had strayed away from the original ideal, he eventually freed Lisa Stanley, then captured by Ven, and joined the Burg Transportation to stop the Alordeshi Army]].
----
* TheCaptain: His official rank.
* CloseRangeCombatant: Striker-class.
* TheDragon: To Ven, [[spoiler: at least in the first half of the story]].
* GreyAndGrayMorality: When Ash talked to him before [[spoiler: the attack on Deean Air Force Base (Mission 23), Maylan expressed the view that every party involved (i.e., the Burg Transportation, the OCU, and Ven's army) had a mix of "right" and "wrong"]].
* HeelFaceTurn: [[spoiler: After realizing that the revolution had strayed from the original ideal, Maylan chose to side with Lisa's team and ended up joining the Burg Transportation. Again, it's debatable whether the Alordeshi Army were truly "evil" per se, but they were the antagonists]].
--> '''Maylan''': [[spoiler: The Revolutionary Army no longer follows the Lieutenant Colonel (Ven)'s ideals. It's all General Gwianda's fault]].
--> '''Lisa''': [[spoiler: Has General Gwianda imprisoned Ven]]?
--> '''Maylan''': [[spoiler: You might not know this, but the coup was planned by General Gwianda and Intergehen]].
* TheIdealist: He seemed to believe in the vision for a better Alordesh as much as Ven did. [[spoiler: Realizing that the revolution had strayed from Ven's ideal (and also that ''someone else'' was puppeteering the Alordeshi Army) was his main motivation to desert]].
* MeaningfulName: He nicknamed his wanzer '''Nouko''', which means "Boat" in Bengali.
* MrExposition: One of his main contributions to [[spoiler: the eventual Burg Transportation team: Being a former high-ranking member of the Revolutionary Army, he knew a lot of crucial info]].
* MustMakeAmends: [[spoiler: After the Deean AFB battle ended in the Alordeshi Army's defeat, most of the team prepared to leave as they knew OCU forces would come pouring in. Maylan, however, decided to stay and help (despite knowing that the OCU wouldn't be fond of him - a high-ranking Alordeshi officer who helped orchestrate the coup d'etat). Because he felt he needed to bear responsibility for helping to start the coup d'etat that had led to mass deaths and destruction]].
* MyCountryRightOrWrong: He loved Alordesh as much as Ven or [[spoiler: Ash]] did.
* OneHitKill: [[spoiler: His unique battle skill "Blast Blow". It could be used with any single-hit weapon (in [[CloseRangeCombatant his case]], it would most likely be melee weapon), and made it such that any part hit by the said attack will be destroyed instantly]].
* RogueSoldier: Maylan willingly went rogue alongside Mackarge.
* TheSixthRanger: [[spoiler: He was the last character within the playable cast to join the team, and his joining had a [[HeelFaceTurn surprise factor]] to it]].
* StoutStrength: A stocky guy who's a strong Striker-class pilot.
* TankGoodness: Somewhat oddly, he's usually seen driving tanks whenever he appeared as an enemy unit in the first half of the story, and wasn't seen in wanzers until [[spoiler: he deserted and joined Lisa's team]].
* TrueCompanions: With [[TheLeader Ven]]. [[spoiler: Ven even told Maylan about the passwords he used for exchanges with Intergehen]].
* UndyingLoyalty: To Ven. At one point, He even [[spoiler: expressed guilt for supposedly "abandoning Ven" after he defected and joined the Burg Transportation]].
--> '''Maylan''': [[spoiler: Ash, did I just end up abandoning the Lieutenant Colonel (Ven) in the end...?]]

!!General Gorsh Gwianda
[[quoteright:240:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gwianda.jpg]]
Gorsh Gwianda was a general in the Alordeshi Army. He lived a life of military service since his enlistment in the Forces of Alordesh in 2067. Gwianda became well-acquainted with the military's structure, eventually being appointed as head of the military in 2094. He was captured by the Revolutionary Army during the outbreak of the Alordesh coup d'etat. [[spoiler: But in truth, he was one of the true brains behind the coup d'etat]]. [[spoiler: He was also the person who eventually ordered the Dhaka bombing that killed thousands of Alordeshi civilians]].
----
* AssholeVictim: [[spoiler: When Gwianda revealed that he wasn't interested in bettering Alordesh's situation and planned to flee with FENRIR, Ven killed him and ran away. Considering that Gwianda (1) manipulated Ven, (2) ordered the Dhaka bombing with zero remorse, and (3) did all of these for personal power, many players were probably outright cheering for Ven when he killed Gwianda]].
* BigBadDuumvirate: In truth formed such a team with Franz Henschel.
* DistressedDude: He was captured by the Revolutionary Army when the coup d'etat broke out. [[spoiler: [[SubvertedTrope Turned out]] he actually helped plan the whole thing]].
* FourStarBadass: Somewhat. He did [[spoiler: plan the coup d'etat]] and was the head of the Alordeshi Army, but he was never seen to engage in battle on-screen.
* TheManBehindTheMan: [[spoiler: He worked with Intergehen to plan the coup d'etat. Ven was simply the on-field leader]].
* ManipulativeBastard: [[spoiler: He exploited Ven's [[TheIdealist zealotry]] and got the latter to start a coup d'etat on his behalf, and when Gwianda himself ordered the Dhaka bombing, Ven essentially got framed for it, as everyone thought Ven was the leader of the coup forces and Gwianda was being [[DistressedDude held captive]]]].
* RogueSoldier: [[spoiler:Secretly the mastermind behind Mackarge's plans to launch a coup. Plus the Dhaka bombings.]]
* NonActionBigBad: [[spoiler: He was one of the true brains behind the coup d'etat, but had never actually gone onto the battlefield]].
* ScrewThisImOuttaHere: [[spoiler: He tried to leave with FENRIR once he saw that the Revolutionary Army were going to lose]]. [[spoiler: Ven had a different plan for him, however]].
* TheSociopath: [[spoiler: He showed no apparent remorse about being the person who ordered the Dhaka bombing and basically framing Ven for it]].

!!Saribash Labra
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/saribash_labra.jpg]]
Saribash Labra was the founder and CEO of Burg Transportation, a major transportation business in Alordesh. While he supported the movement for an independent Alordesh, Saribash was opposed to the Alordeshi Army's use of a coup d'état to achieve it. Labra was also the adopted father of Ven Mackarge, whom he adopted after the latter's father died.
----
* {{Acrofatic}}: He's obviously overweight, but also managed to drive a wanzer around the battlefield and had little troubles keeping himself alive.
* BadassNormal: He was technically a civilian. Yet, he walked around the battlefield in a wanzer, fighting alongside trained military personnel such as the Muddy Otters and the Dull Stags. While he wasn't that much of a threat (i.e., don't expect him to deal a lot of damage to the enemies), the fact that he managed to do all these and survived was pretty darn impressive.
* {{Determinator}}: There's a good chance Ven learnt this from his adopted father.
* TheDon
* {{Foil}}: To his adopted son Ven. They both desired a better future for Alordesh, but Saribash tried to do this via more peaceful means, while Ven went for a far more violent route.
--> '''Saribash''' (To [[spoiler: the captured]] Ven): What revolution!? Don't make me laugh, Ven! Revolution has to be carried out by the whole people! All you soldiers are doing is stealing citizens' lives in your worthless acts of terrorism! Don't you get it after all this!! Huh!?
* GoodParents: It's clear that he loved both Ven and Lira.
* HairTriggerTemper: Saribash could be enraged rather easily. Over the course of the story, he had screamed at Ash, at Joyce, at Ven... so on and so forth. [[TheHeart Lira]] seemed to be the only person immune to being yelled at by Saribash.
* {{Heroic BSoD}}: [[spoiler: When Lira appeared to have died, Saribash became overwhelmed with grief for a while... and then got crazy enough to try to go after Ven on his own (see RoaringRampageOfRevenge below)]].
* HeterosexualLifePartners: With Thomas. The two had known each other for a long time, and it was obvious that they genuinely trusted each other.
* TheLeader: To the Burg Transportation. Based on how he [[spoiler: often led strategic discussions during their war against the Revolutionary Army, it was clear he ''knew'' military strategies]].
* MyCountryRightOrWrong: Towards Alordesh. For years, Saribash had been smuggling arms and such, not for personal gains, but for gathering the capital necessary for negotiating a better deal for Alordesh with the OCU. [[spoiler: He was... less than pleased by the Dhaka bombing, which killed thousands of civilians]].
* PayEvilUntoEvil: [[spoiler: He was the one who gunned down Franz Henschel at Intergehen Factory, while the latter was gloating over managing to start the FENRIR field test (buildup to Mission 30)]].
* RedOniBlueOni: Regularly the Red to Thomas's Blue. There were several instances where Saribash got emotional, only for Thomas to try to calm him. E.g., throughout the sequence where [[spoiler: Lira's apparent death caused Saribash to want to recklessly go off to fight Ven, Thomas was trying to get him to calm down]].
* RoaringRampageOfRevenge: Tried to recklessly go off to fight Ven on his own after [[spoiler: Lira appeared to have died from TakingTheBullet for Ven. Fortunately, Sayuri got him to snap out of it]].
--> '''Saribash''': I don't give a damn if I die!
--> '''Sayuri''': You idiot!!
--> '''Saribash''': ...!!
--> '''Lisa''': ...!
--> '''Sayuri''': If you died, it would just make [[spoiler: Lira]] even more sad!! If... If you don't even understand that much, then I hope Ven kills you right away!! Good riddance!!
--> '''Saribash''': ...
--> '''Sayuri''': Y... You're such a huge moron... sob... it's because of idiots like you... sob... sob...

[[folder:Lira Labra]]
!!Lira Labra
[[quoteright:240:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lira_labra.jpg]]
Lira Labra was an employee of Burg Transporation and daughter of Saribash Labra. After passing an exempted test in 2101, she graduated from high school. Since then, Lira had been helping her father run the company as his secretary. Lira was also a trained wanzer pilot, having achieved her wanzer handling license shortly after her graduation.
----
* BadassNormal: A young lady barely out of her adolescence... and on multiple occasions, she [[SilkHidingSteel helped fight the Revolutionary Army]] along with Burg Transportation forces. In a Zenith, to be exact. Granted, her damage output wasn't anywhere near those of, say, the Muddy Otters or the Dull Stags, but the fact that she managed to do these and [[spoiler: survived the whole ordeal]] was pretty darn impressive.
* DaddysGirl: She was quite happy to support her father in their family business.
* DefrostingIceQueen: Joyce succeeded to get Lira to respond to him during their encounter on the Labra mansion's balcony. Before that Lira was nothing but [[TheQuietOne quiet]] and distant.
* ExtremeDoormat: At times. As she revealed on the balcony encounter with Joyce, Saribash and Ven were both very insistent on their respective views about how to make Alordesh better, while she just felt stuck in the middle, not knowing whose view she wanted to support.
--> '''Lira''': I don't know... Ven or father... which of them is right...
* TheHeart: Lira's gentle personality was a nice touch of peace amidst all the war and conflicts. [[spoiler: Everyone was heartbroken or at least saddened when she appeared to have died]].
* {{Leitmotif}}: Lira's theme, which was a somewhat sad and forlorn melody that had a touch of warmth and hope to it.
* LongHairIsFeminine: She had the longest hair among the female characters and at the same time was also the most conventionally [[TheHeart feminine]] one among them.
* MafiaPrincess: Variation. She was well-aware of the fact that her father was a mafia boss.
* MissingMom: Her mother was never mentioned during the story.
* TheQuietOne: She didn't talk much. When Joyce first tried to start conversation with her, she responded with nothing but cold silence, which annoyed Joyce.
* ShipTease: She had ''tons'' of this with Joyce. Joyce was the first person outside Saribash to manage to get through to Lira, and was [[spoiler: as heartbroken as Saribash was when Lira seemed to have died]]. [[spoiler: They still didn't have an official relationship by the end, however]].
* SiblingYinYang: To her adopted brother Ven. Lira was [[TheQuietOne quiet]] and reserved, coming across as [[ExtremeDoormat submissive]] at times, while Ven was ''very'' willing to take up leadership roles and get violent. However, the two genuinely cared for each other. [[spoiler: Lira even tried to break Ven out after he was captured by the Burg Transportation]].
--> '''Lira''': Joyce?
--> '''Joyce''': Lira... what's the matter?
--> '''Lira''': I brought some dinner... is it okay if I come in?
--> '''Joyce''': ... Your voice is trembling, Lira.
--> '''Lira''': !!
--> '''Joyce''': There are sleeping pills in that food, aren't there? ... You trying to [[spoiler: break Ven out of here]]?
--> '''Ven''': !!
* SilkHidingSteel: She appeared to be very girlish at first glance. But she also knew how to pilot a wanzer and had no problem keeping herself alive.
* TakingTheBullet: [[spoiler: She ran to protect Ven Mackarge from missiles fired from a VTOL aircraft and appeared to have died]]. [[spoiler: Later subverted in that she was in truth still alive]].
* ThoughtYouWereDead: [[spoiler: She appeared to have died in Mission 20, where she [[TakingTheBullet took a bullet]] for Ven. The team later found her alive and healthy at Alordesh Munitions Dump]].
* TheUglyGuysHotDaughter: She's much more of a looker than her father.

Franz was born in 2020 and was once a prominent executive in an EC Germany-based wanzer manufacturer named Intergehen. [[spoiler: Sometime in the 2090s, an OCU Colonel named Pan Chang-Jang reached out to the company with a proposal: create an AI capable of piloting wanzers and conducting ground warfare without any humans and controlling a nuclear arsenal. This became project FENRIR]]. Intergehen received great investment from the OCU and Franz was pleased with the project. [[spoiler: By 2094 however, the OCU suddenly withdrew support for the project due to the first Alordesh coup driving the corporation to bankruptcy. Henschel was infuriated and broken, having his life destroyed by the company's closing]]. [[spoiler: He had been working for the Grimnir ever since]].
----
* BigBadDuumvirate: Arguably formed such a team with General Gwianda.
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: [[spoiler: Henschel seemed to have no problem letting Saribash gun him down as Ash and co. arrived at Intergehen Factory (buildup to Mission 30). One interpretation was that he was in truth just another body whose mind had been wiped with the S-Type Device, making him essentially another puppet of Dr. Morgan Bernard (see ''5'' for details)]].
* TheChessmaster: [[spoiler: He tricked Gwianda into tricking Ven into starting the coup d'etat. While Gwianda and Ven were busy "tracking down FENRIR", Henschel was pulling the strings with Domingo as the latter served as a DoubleAgent and manipulated events by hitting specified targets. Then when Ven killed Gwianda at Deean, Henschel seemed to have seen it coming and fled via a different route. This guy was playing 8D chess here]].
* CorruptCorporateExecutive: A prominent executive of the Intergehen. He happily helped plan a coup d'etat that resulted in mass death of Alordeshi civilians. All for the purpose of [[spoiler: obtaining the FENRIR]].
* TheEvilGenius
* EvilOldFolks: Definitely had this look.
* KilledOffForReal: [[spoiler: When Saribash gunned him down at Intergehen Factory]].
* TheManBehindTheMan: [[spoiler: Henschel helped plan the coup d'etat, alongside Gwianda, while Ven carried out their plan]]. [[spoiler: In truth, he was even more of this than Gwianda, as he was actually working for the Grimnir to help them acquire FENRIR]].
* NonActionBigBad: He was one of the true brains behind the coup d'etat, but had never actually gone onto the battlefield. [[spoiler: Well, the one time he piloted a wanzer just to gloat over starting the FENRIR field test in front of Ash and co., he was promptly gunned down by Saribash (buildup to Mission 30)]].
* RoaringRampageOfRevenge: Heavily implied to be holding a grudge against the OCU for driving Intergehen to bankruptcy. It's likely a major part of his motivation to support [[spoiler: the Grimnir]].
* ScrewThisImOuttaHere: [[spoiler: He fled from Deean Air Force Base as the Burg Transportation team was about to win, and escaped via a different route (different from Gwianda's)]].
* WesternTerrorists: [[spoiler: He's a proxy of Dr. Morgan Bernard]].
