Well okay, there's a little more to it than that.

''Hyper Speed [=GranDoll=]'' (超光速グランドール, Chō Kōsoku Gurandōru) is a three-episode [[OriginalVideoAnimation OVA]] from 1997 about Hikaru, an OrdinaryHighSchoolStudent who is shocked to discover that she's actually the long-lost princess of a faraway planet. Now she must transform into the chosen warrior, Grandoll, in order to protect the Earth from villainous alien invaders and prevent her PoweredArmor suit from falling into the wrong hands.

A [[NoExportForYou Japan-only]] Platform/PlayStation game based on the OVA was released shortly after, which is a side-scrolling action platformer similar to the likes of both ''Franchise/{{Metroid}}'' and ''Franchise/MegaMan'' and that the game's plot closely follows the OVA's storyline, with the exception of a few minor differences. In addition to this and whereas in the anime in which Hikaru only fights in her standard armor, she gets multiple different styles of armor upgrades after defeating a boss, similiar to ''VideoGame/MegaManZX'''s Bio Metal System.

!!This series provides examples of:

%% * ByThePowerOfGreyskull: "Gran Change!"
%% * CallingYourAttacks: Hikaru always does this.
%% * CannotSpitItOut: Narazaki. The series ends in the middle of him stuttering out a confession.
%%
%% To whom? Half-context examples are bad style.
%%
* CrashIntoHello: Subverted; Hikaru and Haruna almost meet Sigil by crashing into her thanks to some high-speed shoes, but Sigil jumps out of the way just in time.
%% * DarkMagicalGirl: Sigil.
%% * DistressedDude: Narazaki.
* EverybodyKnewAlready: When Hikaru's muggle parents finally decide to reveal to her that she's adopted, her response is "I know." Cue FaceFault.
%% * FrillsOfJustice: Gran Aggress and Gran Master are the PoweredArmor versions of this.
%% * FuroScene: Hikaru and Sigil get one together after Sigil's HeelFaceTurn. Sigil also gets an earlier bath scene by herself.
%% * GirlishPigtails: Hikaru.
* HappilyAdopted: Even after discovering her true heritage, Hikaru affirms that she views her muggle parents as her true parents.
%% * HeelFaceTurn: Sigil, [[DarkMagicalGirl naturally]].
%% * HostageForMacGuffin: Being the MagicalGirl's love interest, Narazaki unsurprisingly falls victim to this.
* LampshadeHanging: When Hikaru first transforms, the first words out of her mouth are "Awesome, I've turned into some sort of action hero!"
%% * LateForSchool: Hikaru, in the first episode.
%% * MacGuffin: The Royal Armor.
%% * MadScientist: Hikaru's {{Muggle}} dad, although he's definitely on the heroic side of things, albeit rather bumbling.
%% * MagicalGirl
%% * MagicWarrior: With a more sci-fi vibe than usual.
%% * MarshmallowHell: Hikaru does this to Sigil, although it's played as heartwarming rather than comical.
* MeaningfulName: "Hikaru" means "light" and is hero of the story.
%% * TheMentor: Gran Knight.
%% * MuggleBestFriend: Haruna.
%% * MuggleFosterParents: Though they're a lot more eccentric than the average instance of this trope, being a MadScientist and his assistant.
* NoIndoorVoice: Sigil in the dub never talks quietly. She even yells in her thoughts.
%% * ObfuscatingStupidity: Hikaru's muggle parents.
%% * PowerGivesYouWings: Gran Master.
%% * PoweredArmor: The Royal Armor.
* PrincessesPreferPink: Hikaru is a princess and her PoweredArmor is pink.

%% * TheRevolutionWillNotBeCivilized: Friedshalf's revolution on Hikaru's home planet certainly wasn't.
* RoseHairedSweetie: Hikaru is pink-haired, and very kind.
%% * SubordinateExcuse: Sigil towards Friedshalf. He seems to reciprocate it.
%% * TakingTheBullet: [[spoiler: Sigil does this for Hikaru when the latter is about to be stabbed by Friedshalf.]]
* TakingYouWithMe: [[spoiler: Friedshalf figures that if he can't get the Royal Armor, he may as well just die and take the Earth along with him.]]
%% * ThisIsUnforgivable: Hikaru says this when the villains start attacking Earth.
* TransformationSequence: Hikaru gets a StockFootage one for her basic outfit and new ones for her power-ups.
%% * UndyingLoyalty: Sigil towards Friedshalf.
%% * WellIntentionedExtremist:
%% ** Sigil has a lot of heroic principles, but she puts her trust in the wrong people.
%% ** Sir Friedshalf seems like this at first, but he turns out to be just a megalomaniac.
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: [[spoiler: So are Friedshalf and Sigil dead or not?]]
* YouKilledMyFather: Friedshalf killed Hikaru's biological parents and even taunts her about it.
