Administrivia/TropesAreTools, since this does enhance the twist, as the good part of the film exists to first set Crispin as a seemingly nice and decent guy]].

* CultClassic: It bombed in the box office, yet it's very well-loved amongst horror movie fans for being an overall awesome DeconstructiveParody of Slasher films with probably one of the best and most badass {{Final Girl}}s in all of horror movie media.

** A family arguing at dinner is funny. That family being forced to flee into the hallway when they get attacked is terrifying. That family ''continuing to argue'' as they try to hide is hilarious.

* EvilIsSexy: [[spoiler:Zee and Felix]] would count for some people.

* MoralEventHorizon: [[spoiler: Crispian planning the killing of his family in order to inherit the money.]]

* CatharsisFactor: One for the entire horror fandom. [[WhatAnIdiot Terrible decision-making]] by main characters in horror films are so ubiquitous and ingrained that it's now considered a normal part of horror cinema. So Erin's extreme resourcefulness, intelligence, and combat prowess coming together to invoke TheHunterBecomesTheHunted is a breath of fresh air in horror. It's fine to admit that you were cheering her on as she hunted down the three killers [[spoiler: and especially when she killed Felix, Zee, and Crispian]].

* CompleteMonster: [[spoiler:Crispian Davison]] may not have killed anyone directly, but [[EvilPlan the plan]] to kill off the rest of the family and divide the money among the conspirators [[BigBad was his in the first place]], putting all that happens afterwards on his head. At his instigation, eight people, including six members of his family, and two of their neighbors, were gruesomely killed with crossbows, machetes, mauls, axes, and household tools, a fact of which he is downright proud; when [[spoiler: his girlfriend]] Erin resists and murders all of his co-conspirators, he takes it in a stride since [[{{Greed}} all of the money will now be coming to him]]. When Erin confronts him, he demonstrates himself to be [[LackOfEmpathy so void of basic human feeling]] that [[EvilCannotComprehendGood he honestly believes]] he can win her over with a promise of money, and a lie about truly loving her.
* CrossesTheLineTwice: While generally the BlackComedy is more subtle, there are a few moments that fit into this trope. Some good examples would be [[spoiler:Drake's death, in which he repeatedly gets stabbed with multiple objects as his killer tries to pass it off as an AccidentalMurder, only to continue and rant about how "Would you just die already? This is hard enough for me!"]] and [[spoiler:Zee trying to have sex with Felix... on the same bed where his ''dead mother'' is laying (he is considerably freaked out)]].

* SpiritualLicensee: It's ''Film/HomeAlone'' remade as a horror film.

* MemeticBadass: Erin, one of the smartest, most capable [[FinalGirl Final Girls]] in all of horror cinema.

* DidntThinkThisThrough: [[spoiler:Rather leave Crispian for the police, Erin stabs him to death, leaving her as the only survivor and making it virtually impossible to prove that he was ever responsible.]]

* HypeBacklash: With a two year wait and the promise of being something truly new and original, this was bound to disappoint some people. Its novel ideas are simply that the FinalGirl be a distaff John Matrix and that the gore-fodder all be direct family, which automatically heightens the emotional stakes. Other than that it's a very straight-up example of the genre, albeit well-executed.
