* LowTierLetdown:
** Minoth is a DPS attacker with some solid skills, but has to compete with [[GameBreaker Mythra]] for Addam's Blade slot. While Mythra is surprisingly weak when under-optimized and Minoth is better right off the bat, a specced-out Mythra becomes too much of a valuable asset to the team for Minoth to be worth considering. His Switch Art causes Break, which isn't much use because of the Vanguard Switch cooldown before being able to inflict Topple with Addam's Switch Art (and you can't always rely on Jin and Hugo to do the job for you), and he has a weird combination of Arts and Skills that both increase and reduce aggro, effectively canceling each other out. His main role is to reduce aggro on Team Addam, which is both ineffective and redundant with Hugo on the team. LetsPlay/{{Chuggaaconroy}} went as far as to call him the "[[DamnedByFaintPraise 9th best party member]]" for endgame content because of how valuable Mythra's Foresight support is for the team.
** Depending on one's playstyle, Mythra can either be a GameBreaker (as she is in the base game) or this trope. While her Foresight support is invaluable, she is held back by Addam's low Agility and him only having two accessory slots combined with Mythra herself not having any inherent damage modifiers aside from her critical damage boost on Lightning Buster and Terminal Flash (for comparison, Jin has the same thing ''as a permanent Battle Skill''). As a result, players often have to choose between power or survivability when using her. While not a bad character by any means, her DPS is quite slow compared to other attacking Blades (despite her ability to chain her Arts and her Lv. I Special into themselves) and she suffers from her GlassCannon defenses even more here, making some players prefer Minoth due to his damage output. Furthermore, Mythra is a case of MagikarpPower in this game, being very underwhelming aside from Foresight if her affinity chart is underdeveloped.
** While Minoth is still considered a solid character, Aegaeon is ''not''. Just like in the main game, he has no offensive presence, making it difficult for him to accumulate aggro and take advantage of his evasive and defensive skills. The consensus is that anything Aegaeon can do, Brighid can do much better, including Rear Guard support for Hugo.

* HilariousInHindsight: Brighid and Mythra's banter when they fight sounds a lot like a professional ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBros'' player complaining that she's up against a rookie player [[TierInducedScrappy with an overpowered character,]] especially when Mythra realizes Brighid has no counter to Sacred Arrow and prepares to [[WhenAllYouHaveIsAHammer spam it]] before Haze stops her. Cutting down on serious Walkthrough Mode violating writeups per dedicated cleanup thread.

** Lora is a jack-of-all-trades FragileSpeedster meant to be a versatile character in any situation, but what sets her apart is her Talent Art, "Swallow's Flight". At the [[CastFromHitPoints cost of half her HP]], Lora can recharge ''all'' of her arts, which is invaluable during the early game when more sophisticated means of Arts recharge are unavailable, and puts her nearly on par with Poppi QTπ in terms of Break and Driver Combo potential. Not only that, but given that her main Blade is Jin, she also inherits many of his strengths and can switch to him to Topple opponents after a Break, or can switch to Haze in the rear guard for a more defensive/"safe" approach. Her main disadvantages are the fact that [[ArtificialStupidity when put on AI, she will spam Swallow's Flight even when not needed,]] and that the hardest {{superboss}} in the game is immune to Driver Combos, nullifying one of her biggest strengths.
** Jin, widely considered ''the'' best character in the game. He boasts the ''highest auto-attack value in both the main game and Torna'' (even beating out Shulk), while his Battle Skills bring his damage output to insane levels. Transmigration is like an enhanced version of the World Tree Drop item, increasing damage dealt by 50% on every Vanguard Switch; because Lora is intended as the party's main Break inflicter and Jin's switch-in move causes Topple, you'll likely by using Vanguard Switch a ''lot''. Full Resonance is a clone of '''KOS-MOS'''[='=] Hyperclock, boosting Jin's damage output by 100% while having him take 30% less damage at max Affinity. Lastly, Mind's Eye boosts his critical damage by 80%, making a "crit-heal" strategy just as viable on him as on Mythra. While two of Jin's Specials only have situational bonuses, his Lv. III Special, Ice Revolution, is just like Elma's Sliding Slinger in that it deals 100% more damage to higher-level enemies, which can be handy against the {{Superboss}}es. Overall, Jin may not have the [[ThatOneAttack completely busted]] skills that he'll later have [[spoiler:as a Flesh Eater]] or provide the party-wide support that Haze does, but regardless he more than makes up for the main game's lack of good Ice Blades and excels when it comes to raw damage output.
** On Normal or Easy difficulty, Haze is very underwhelming and weak and not worth using over Jin's insane DPS; however, on [[HarderThanHard Bringer of Chaos]], Haze is a fantastic choice of Blade for the team to provide party-wide support, especially if playing as Team Addam or Team Hugo. At maxed-out Affinity, her three Battle Skills can prove invaluable: Headwind reduces party damage taken by 20%, Tailwind increases damage dealt by 50%, and Summer Breeze gives all party members 40% resistance to all debuffs. Headwind is significant in that it helps alleviate the ArtificialStupidity of Lora using her Swallow's Flight Talent Art to eat up her own HP, and also helps patch up Haze's [[SquishyWizard awful physical defense]]. Furthermore, her Talent Art, Winds of Time, can stop enemies in their tracks for 5 seconds at the cost of consuming all of Haze's own Arts recharge. Equip Jin with a Sunlight Chip (which increases Team Lora's maximum HP by 500), add to that Haze's party-wide heals, and you have an excellent bulky supporting Blade that increases the team's survivability and viability. This is especially good for Mythra; because of Addam's low Agility and fixed Blades, she can't reach the ridiculous levels of Agility she could on Rex despite her fast animations, making every bit of protective support count. Best of all is that the AI '''will not switch from Haze to Jin''' in most situations (as long as you don't prompt it to use an Ice Blade Combo), taking off the pressure of worrying if they'll suddenly strip you of Haze's support. It's not unheard of for an AI-controlled Haze to stunlock monsters for up to ''half a minute'' at a time with Winds of Time, especially when Lora is equipped with Arts recharge pouch items. While Haze might not have the overwhelming damage output of Lora's other choice of Blade, she can prove to be a lifesaver in battles where that extra survivability and support are needed.
** Addam is another Driver made absolutely broken via his Talent Art. Transcendence lets him, [[CastFromHitPoints again at the cost of some HP]], extend Driver Combos for a very, ''very'' long time. This lets him stunlock enemies a la ''VideoGame/XenobladeChronicles1'', and similar to Lora, Addam has a Launch Art that can be followed up by switching to Mythra for a Smash to complete the Driver Combo. However, again just like Lora, this strength is nullified against the strongest {{superboss}} in the game, which is immune to Driver Combos.
** Mythra, just like in the main game, albeit only when fully optimized. Her Battle Skills of Foresight and Glint are as good as ever, and she's the ''only'' party member with access to the Light element (as all other elements can be equipped to Lora, Addam and Hugo via weapon changes), plus Addam's weapons boost his team's crit rate even more. But now that Mythra's a playable character, her very powerful former Blade Specials are now her Battle Arts, meaning that she can spam her multi-hit Lightning Buster as much as she pleases; the move recharges almost immediately due to its multiple hits working with Lightspeed Flurry, making it more spammable than any of Rex's Arts with her, and ''on top of that'' also has a critical hit damage boost of '''85%''' at Lv. 5. This means Addam doesn't need to run an Ice Headband to boost the move's critical damage, and can instead use an accessory slot for a boosting item like Shell Shoes[[note]]boosts Agility and helps with Foresight[[/note]] or a Golden Headband[[note]]increases critical hit rate by 50% if recoverable HP exists, which is perfect for "crit-heal" setups[[/note]]. While Lightspeed Flurry ''has'' been slightly {{nerf}}ed from 100% recharge to 60%, it barely matters with the right pouch setup and the fast general recharge and multi-hit nature of Mythra's Arts, especially Lightning Buster. With the Massive Melee Mythra and Affinity MAX Atk Aux Cores along with a Modern Medal and a Golden Headband,[[note]]This setup is the closest equivalent to the "crit-heal" Mythra build from the main game, but with less competition and a different moveset, she's much better here.[[/note]] she can cut enemies to shreds in a matter of seconds. Her ''new'' Specials are also worth noting; Twilight Striker bypasses enemy defenses, while Terminal Flash has its critical damage boosted by 85% just like Lightning Buster. Furthermore, similar to Pyra in the main game, Minoth with a Pentagon Chip becomes a Dexterity-boosting reserve for Mythra and Addam that stacks on top of Foresight, basically turning Mythra's moves into {{Always Accurate Attack}}s. The best part is that her passive benefits and battle skills also apply to Addam, should you switch to him in battle or simply just play as him.[[note]]Speaking of Addam, if Break is inflicted on the opponent, he happens to be an amazing Driver Combo extender; switching from Mythra to Addam will inflict Topple, which Addam can then follow up with Rising Arc, then repeatedly use his Talent Art to extend the combo at the expense of HP, and finally switch back to Mythra to inflict Smash and finish the combo. If Mythra has a crit-heal build, she can simply recover the HP that was lost from Addam's Talent Art, since keeping the enemy Launched prevents them from attacking, period.[[/note]] Mythra's Talent Art of Glimpse the Future may not be as broken as Winds of Time or Imperial Tether, but it's excellent nonetheless; it grants the entire party full invincibility for a short period if Mythra's been incapacitated and has just been revived, allowing for some much-needed breathing room to get the team's momentum going again. Mythra's main disadvantages are a lack of inherent damage multipliers and that she is a major case of MagikarpPower, as she is very lackluster if her skills aren't optimized and she is outdamaged easily by Minoth, but with enough investment she can provide the fantastic mix of offense and support that she's known for.
** While Hugo doesn't look like much on paper, what makes him shine is his Talent Art, Imperial Tether. [[CastFromHitPoints At the cost of half his HP]], Hugo can force all aggro on himself for 15 seconds. In ''Xenoblade Chronicles 2'' and its expansion, Arts and skills that directly increase or reduce aggro don't really work the way they're supposed to, since damage output plays a much bigger role in the aggro formula. Having a party member who can directly force aggro (similar to the Taunt status inflicted by enemies) is therefore a godsend. On top of that, Hugo has the highest Agility out of the party, which is boosted even further by Brighid's and Aegaeon's Agility modifiers. With Shell Shoes and healing support (either from Haze or by using a crit-heal build), Hugo can NoSell most enemy attacks while spamming his Talent Art with impunity and quickly making up for lost HP. Equip him with a Phantom Feather and in mob battles or battles with reinforcements, he'll ''always'' be the one to draw aggro first and has a good chance of keeping it, effectively working the way tanks in ''Xenoblade'' were always supposed to work!

Authors Saving Throw is now Trivia-only.

* AuthorsSavingThrow: As ''VideoGame/XenobladeChronicles2'' is a ContestedSequel, ''Torna'' seeks to improve on that game's flaws while building on its strengths.
** The English voice acting is much smoother and fitting due to having proper voice direction this time around. The HongKongDub moments are also fewer and further between, and more in line with a standard English-dubbed foreign animated work.
** The combat system eschews the much-despised [[ScrappyMechanic gacha mechanic]] in favor of a fixed party composition. This also avoids shuffling blades around to pass field skill checks, another hated mechanic in the first game.
** Blade Combos are much easier to achieve than with the cryptic and dodgy system from the base game, where a single elemental orb would take a very long time to create. Now, elemental orbs don't depend on Blade Combos, and can instead be used to create them separately during battle, and a single special will add an orb to the opponent, as opposed to just the last special used in the combo. In fact, it can act as a first step to properly learn the base game's more complex Blade Combos.
** Torna lets you re-view previous tutorials from the menu, a feature the main game was heavily criticized for lacking.

* EvenBetterSequel: It's an Even Better Prequel to the base game. The vast improvements made in the expansion, as well as the sheer amount of content offered with it made lots of fans consider it to not only be worthy of being called its own separate game, but one that is in many ways even better than the base game. This is due to a more streamlined battle system, better voice acting, and writing that eschews the cliches found early on in the original game. Given that the game also builds on the strengths that ''[=XC2=]'' had over the first game while addressing several of its flaws, many players hold the opinion that ''Torna'', if taken on its own, is not only a great expansion, but better than the base game, to the point some argue it rivals or exceeds the first ''Xenoblade'' in many areas, with the short length being one reason it isn't often discussed as the top contender.

* GoddamnedBoss: Hurricane Anise, the game's main {{superboss}}, especially on higher difficulties. This is largely because of how it screws with the battle system; it's immune to Driver Combos, making Lora and Addam (normally two of the best characters in the game) significantly less viable, and its "Warning Cry" Art lets it summon minions that lock up the Party Gauge, preventing the use of Chain Attacks. Even worse, it will undergo Elemental Awakening at random like most Unique Monsters if any special is used on it, and the only way to purge it is through a Chain Attack, effectively discouraging the use of specials. The safest way to deal with it ends up being via DPS Art spamming, making it a much more unfun boss than it was meant to be.

This is due to a more streamlined battle system, better voice acting, and writing that eschews the cliches found early on in the original game. Given that the game also builds on the strengths that ''[=XC2=]'' had over the first game while addressing several of its flaws, many players hold the opinion that ''Torna'', if taken on its own, is not only a great expansion, but better than the base game, to the point some argue it rivals the first ''Xenoblade'' in many areas, with the short length being one reason it isn't quite often discussed as the top contender.

* ThatOneSidequest:
** Getting to 100 percent Community. You need to get both Monster Granny and The Nopon Halfsage. In order to get the former, you have to defeat 16 Unique Monsters. For the latter, you have to [[CashGate spend a total of 750,000(!) gold]] to buy the locations of four Golden Monsters and then defeat them. The highest-level monster is level 100, so you'll have to grind all the way up to the max level in order to do this. Clearing every single sidequest and the campaign will put you in the low 60's.
** For that matter, defeating said level 100 monster, Hurricane Anise, on Bringer of Chaos. While on the surface she isn't that much more threatening than the {{Bonus Boss}}es in the main game, the problem is that your team and setup options are much more severely limited in ''TTGC''. Each Driver only has two accessory slots, some of the most powerful versions of accessories are unavailable, and most Aux Cores only go up to level III with a few stray level VI Aux Cores that are earned by completing Affinity Charts. Common loadouts from the main game (such as max agility/dodging and Driver Combo setups) are therefore much harder to pull off, making Hurricane Anise on [=BoC=] a LuckBasedMission in some ways. On top of that, the boss is completely immune to Break and is very likely to undergo [[TurnsRed Elemental Awakening]] if hit with a Special, making Driver Combo specialists like Lora and Addam much less useful and forcing cheesy strategies such as spamming Mythra's Lightning Buster while backing her up with team support from Haze and Hugo. In fact, the battle is one reason why Haze is considered such a necessity and why she's preferable over Jin on higher difficulties despite his bigger story role and greater offensive prowess.

** Milton agrees to stay behind in Auresco only after Mythra convinces him that she and the others will be able to fight more effectively if he isn't around to worry about. Of course, [[spoiler: being in Auresco is what ends up getting Milton killed, and Mythra is all too aware that she was the one who convinced him to stay there.]]

Adjusting. I don't think saying it is better than 1 is fair when it is both an expansion, and has to work off of 2, which is generally seen as a step down. It has elements that for sure are good, but saying it's better than 1, and using some random youtuber to do so, isn't a fair argument.

* BaseBreakingCharacter: Lora, mostly for TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter reasons. While most people agree on her being a likable and well-written character, her role and importance in the storyline is hotly debated. Some people don't see anything wrong with her portrayal, role and development throughout the game, often praising her over Rex for avoiding some of the pitfalls of his character. Others claim that Lora is a woefully underdeveloped character and a SatelliteCharacter and DecoyProtagonist to Jin (the latter also to Mythra to some extent), with most of her character being defined by her relationship with him, and that it makes her [[BillingDisplacement presentation as the "main" character]] and amount of in-universe CharacterShilling more jarring. Adding to this is the amount of evidence that Jin is the intended protagonist of the game (most notably [[https://twitter.com/NintendoEurope/status/1029004737797074944 a tweet by Nintendo of Europe]]), which causes people to speculate that Lora is billed before him only for formal or mechanical reasons (being his Driver).

David Menkin is clearly having the time of his life as him in the English dub, and his presence and boss fights are absolutely spectacular -- the latter are considered even better than in the base game. III Special, Ice Revolution, is just like Elma's Sliding Slinger in that it deals 100% more damage to higher-level enemies, which can be handy against the {{Bonus Boss}}es.

** Lora is a JackOfAllStats meant to be a versatile character in any situation, but what sets her apart is her Talent Art, "Swallow's Flight". Her main disadvantages are the fact that [[ArtificialStupidity when put on AI, she will spam Swallow's Flight even when not needed,]] and that the hardest {{superboss}} in the game is immune to Driver Combos, nullifying one of her biggest strengths.

Her main disadvantages are the fact that [[ArtificialStupidity when put on AI, she will spam Swallow's Flight even when not needed,]] and that the hardest {{superboss}} in the game is immune to Driver Combos, nullifying one of her biggest strengths.

Added DiffLines:

* AbandonShipping: Before release, Addam/Mythra was relatively popular due to Mythra's fondness of Addam in the main game and the parallels to Rex/Pyra. Post-release, however, shippers jumped when Addam and Mythra's relationship appeared more familial and when a sidequest revealed [[spoiler:Addam already has a wife]]. Their interactions paint them as a sort of father/daughter duo rather than as lovers, and Mythra's attachment to Rex is such that [[spoiler:her premonitions of him are what help calm her down during the climax]].
* AntiClimaxBoss: {{Superboss}} Hurricane Anise can be this depending on the player's strategy. Part of its difficulty comes from its ability to inflict Blowdown and send the player plummeting to their death, but by luring Anise ''inside'' the cave attached to its arena, the fight becomes much safer.
* AuthorsSavingThrow:
* EscapistCharacter: Lora is a 27-year-old who is one of the "commonfolk", being a mere mercenary and being the only one of the 9 protagonists who isn't a [[RoyalsWhoActuallyDoSomething royal]] or a Blade. She lives with, and is in love with, a man who happens to be the most renowned Blade in all of Torna, and gets along perfectly with said royals and their Blades as she sets off on her quest to find her mother, getting swept into the larger conflict to defeat Malos and even getting knighted. While she is presented as the main character of the game, in-universe she wouldn't be seen as this due to Addam's greater fame and reputation and his being TheHero of the Aegis War itself, making her situation easy to relate to and look up to for many people.
* [[EvenBetterSequel Even Better Prequel]]: The vast improvements made in the expansion, as well as the sheer amount of content offered with it made lots of fans consider it to not only be worthy of being called its own separate game, but one that is in many ways even better than the base game. This is due to a more streamlined battle system, better voice acting, and writing that eschews the cliches found early on in the original game. Some even go as far as to claim that ''Torna'' would be ''the'' best game in the series if not for [[ItsShortSoItSucks its much shorter length]], being a DLC expansion; for example, [=YouTuber PlayerEssence=] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5gljBP64ywY did a comparison video]] to settle the age-old debate of whether ''[=XC1=]'' or ''[=XC2=]'' is the better game, only to [[TakeAThirdOption throw a curveball]] and declare ''TTGC'' the winner.
* GameBreaker: While all 9 party members are meant to be usable in their own right, some of them turn out to be especially potent when optimized.
III Special, Ice Revolution, is just like Elma's Sliding Slinger in that it deals 100% more damage to higher-level enemies, which can be handy against the {{Bonus Boss}}es.
* GoodBadBugs: The "zombie hover" returns with a vengeance, and in fact can be [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ac2l7RSisyY exploited]] to fly to great heights and reach inaccessible areas, a technique known as "zombie jump". These areas include the Soaring Rostrum (without triggering the final boss fight), the balcony and conference room in Aureus Palace, and the DummiedOut area of Gormott corresponding to the "Upper Level - Left" area from the base game.
* HarsherInHindsight:
** ''Torna ~ The Golden Country'' features locations [[FantasyCounterpartCulture based on Japan]] and [[DoomedByCanon involves its destruction]]. A week before the release of it, Japan was [[https://bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-45419771 hit]] [[https://edition.cnn.com/2018/09/05/world/japan-earthquake/index.html with]] destruction directly affecting Nd Cube, developers of ''VideoGame/MarioParty'' and ''VideoGame/WiiParty'' whom are located in Creator/SatoruIwata's home town. It caused Creator/{{Nintendo}} to [[https://twitter.com/NintendoAmerica/status/1037596347979812864 delay]] a direct that would [[https://mobile.twitter.com/thepeekybird/status/1037657350696521728 showcase]] it feeling that it wasn't the appropriate time.
** The tragic fates of [[spoiler:Lora and Jin]] in the main game becomes even more tragic when it's shown that [[spoiler:they likely only had a matter of ''days'' to recover from the fight with Malos when the Praetorium attacked the survivors of Torna]].
** Much of the dialogue in the main game referring to events in this game hits harder now that we fully witness what the characters are talking about. Standouts can include Mythra's anger at having to break her seal and return to the real world, and Jin's sheer disdain when addressing Mythra when they meet again.
--->'''Jin''': It 'fell,' says the girl who sank it.
** Minoth, a gunslinging [[NinjaPirateZombieRobot ninja cowboy]]-like character who speaks GratuitousSpanish and has various western influences, changed his name to "Cole" later in life. A few years later, another gunslinging cowboy character in ''VideoGame/{{Overwatch}}'' started going by the name "Cole Cassidy" (originally Jesse [=McCree=]), though the name change was for much darker real-world reasons than Minoth's.[[note]]Namely, sexual abuse allegations against multiple employees including one named "Jesse [=McCree=]" who was ''Overwatch'' Cole's original namesake.[[/note]]
** Mythra's LethalChef tendencies get turned on their head by the end, where she's able to make a Miracle Parfait, her one good piece of food. Seems to imply that there's a spark inside her that's actually good at cooking. ...And then you realize, [[spoiler:said spark is Pyra, who Mythra created as a defense mechanism for her PTSD, and sets free following the game's DownerEnding]].
*** There's a line of dialogue from Milton who says [[spoiler:Mythra's cooking can "do more damage to you than any Artifice ever could"]]. Guess what happens in the game's ending.
* HeartwarmingInHindsight: Playing ''TTGC'' and getting acquainted with Minoth adds an extra layer of heartwarming to the "A Secret Cure" sidequest in the main game. Not only does the player have more meaning and context behind the CoolOldGuy playwright they're helping as they cure his terminal illness, but Mythra herself[[note]]as opposed to Pyra[[/note]] interacts with Minoth during the sidequest and plays a proactive role in it, which becomes even more meaningful after seeing them travel and fight together with Addam in the prequel. Even moreso considering that Cole is one of Mythra's few friends from that era to survive and retain his memories while remaining on the side of good.[[note]]Lora, Addam, Hugo and Milton are dead; Haze forcibly lost her memories and is KilledOffForReal during the main game; Jin and Mikhail underwent a FaceHeelTurn; and Brighid and Aegaeon are newer incarnations of themselves with new memories.[[/note]]
* JustHereForGodzilla: A major draw of the game is the opportunity to play as popular Blades from the main game, such as Mythra, Brighid and Jin. Jin in particular was a very [[EvilIsCool well-liked]] and [[TragicVillain sympathetic]] villain in the main game but was only a GuestStarPartyMember twice briefly; here, he's not only the main Blade but the true main character of the story.
* LateArrivalSpoiler: It's made clear at the ''very start of the game'' that Jin is a blade, which is supposed to be a major spoiler for the main game.
* MemeticBadass: Ravine Bunnit, similar to the first game's Despotic Arsene, is an unusually high-leveled and very dangerous unique monster that happens to be a fluffy little [[KillerRabbit Bunnit]] and can one-shot any party member on sight, drawing similar comparisons to ''Film/MontyPythonAndTheHolyGrail''. While it isn't a {{superboss}} like Arsene, it's the second highest-leveled UM when not counting the Golden Monsters, and is the same level as the FinalBoss. Unlike Arsene, it also happens to be [[RealMenWearPink brightly colored in pink and green]], adding to the ridiculousness.
* MemeticLoser:
** Aegaeon. Widely considered the worst playable character in the game and underutilized during the story ''for the second time in a row'', he was already maligned for being a very weak Blade in the base game but got barely any improvements in the transition to ''Torna''. It got to the point that LetsPlay/{{Chuggaaconroy}} incessantly ribbed on Aegaeon during his ''Torna'' playthrough, treating him as the out-of-universe ButtMonkey.
** Mythra is a more positive example. The other characters' [[TheFriendNobodyLikes incessant roasting]] [[ButtMonkey of her]] has become highly [[MemeticMutation memetic]] among the fanbase, with fans often labeling her a DumbBlonde as an exaggeration. It doesn't help that she's an [[LethalChef awful cook]], often seen as further proof of her ineptitude. Unlike Aegaeon, however, this is mostly treated as [[UnpopularPopularCharacter making her more lovable and endearing]], especially given her CharacterDevelopment later on.
* {{Moe}}: While Mythra had shades of this in the main game, her dynamic here with the rest of the traveling group makes her come across as very cute, like a bratty but well-meaning and caring child.
* MoralEventHorizon:
** Assuming the entire titan and many towns he'd already destroyed didn't do this, Malos breaks this by attacking the Torna city with his Siren, which [[spoiler:kills Milton]] and puts Mythra into an UnstoppableRage.
** Gort's attempts to kill Lora because of simple pettiness due to Jin cutting his arm off. This is 17 years after he tried to kill Lora for resonating with Jin's Core Crystal that he stole.
** It's revealed that Amalthus [[spoiler:didn't become Praetor through honorable means. Rather, he poisons his predecessor and murders his superiors who would challenge his rule. Then he wastes no time in attacking the Tornan survivors in his effort to find and kill Mythra]].
* MorePopularReplacement: Many fans will claim that Lora is a better main protagonist than Rex, for being an adult instead of a childish StockShonenHero, and for being a person who's just been randomly swept into the Aegis War and doesn't end up hogging all the attention in- and out-of-universe like Rex does. Addam also gets this treatment if one considers him to be Rex's replacement instead (being Mythra's Driver and having some direct similarities), being around Lora's age and being an entertainingly gallant LargeHam and ReasonableAuthorityFigure with some insecurities and development of his own.
* SugarWiki/MostWonderfulSound: "My friends, put your minds at ease!" Said by Hugo when he uses his Talent Art and gives your attackers/healers much-needed breathing room.
* {{Narm}}:
** The enemy gauntlet activation stones are called "Barney Stones", which can bring ''Series/BarneyAndFriends'' to mind for some players, resulting in them either cringing or giggling uncontrollably.
** [[spoiler:Mythra's screams of agony and tearful remarks to Malos in the ending, while [[TearJerker incredibly heart-wrenching]], are somewhat undermined by the fact that she constantly has DrearyHalfLiddedEyes throughout the ordeal, making her look incredibly apathetic.]]
* OneSceneWonder: [[spoiler:Pyra only appears at the end of the game and [[TheVoiceless doesn't even speak]], but the whole game contextualizes the reason for her creation (Mythra wanting to seal away her powers) and her appearance here sets up the entire story of the main game. It's also one of the very few times she, rather than Mythra, can be seen interacting with Addam. After beating the campaign, the title screen becomes a shot of Pyra sealed away in the Ancient Ship.]]
* RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap: Or more accurately, the BaseBreakingCharacter. While Mythra was disliked for her {{Tsundere}} tendencies and occasional {{Jerkass}} moments in the main game, many players warmed to her due to the DLC fleshing out her character, giving her much needed character development, and showing [[spoiler:just how much the War of Aegises traumatized her]]. This caused her to blossom from a typical polarizing anime {{tsundere}} who was arguably less well-liked than Pyra to one of the most beloved and praised characters in the series, even moreso after she and Pyra became playable in ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBrosUltimate''.
* TheScrappy: Bry, the Royal Gardener of Torna. His stubborn and hotheaded nature are already red flags, but the fandom grew to loathe him due to him being an unapologetic [[AbusiveParents abusive father]] to Kaym. What made him even more reviled is the fact that Kaym is presented as being [[DesignatedVillain in the wrong]] for having the nerve to [[UnfortunateImplications go against his abusive father's wishes]], and Bry [[KarmaHoudini never faces any repercussions]] for his physical violence and emotional manipulation towards his son.
* ScrappyMechanic:
** While the community system itself isn't an issue, its integration into the game's progression is for many players. There are two gated parts of the main story which require the player reach community levels 2 and 4, forcing the game to a halt as the player must grind sidequests to progress. This is especially bad if the player's been ignoring sidequests up to this point, and comes across as a form of FakeLongevity.
** Elemental Awakening returns with a vengeance. Unlike in the main game, there's ''no'' way to remove an awakening outside of simply defeating the enemy or breaking all its elemental orbs, making those tougher boss battles even more tough.
** Unlike in the main game, pouch items can ''only'' be obtained by crafting and cannot be purchased. This often makes good pouch items TooAwesomeToUse due to their rare ingredients, and means you'll be running out quickly while constantly replacing them.
* ShockingMoments: Mythra going [[UnstoppableRage absolutely insane]] over [[spoiler:Milton's death]] allowing her to move at the speed of light, and cause energy blasts so powerful they can destroy Malos' Gargoyles in a single hit. There's even a mecha battle where they're controlling their Siren's through sheer willpower and Mythra and Malos enter them by doing the pose of Jesus.
* SignatureScene:
** Malos' attack on Torna is one of the most discussed parts of the DLC due to the new remix of [[spoiler:Amalthus - The Acting God]] and the tension along the battle.
** The ending [[spoiler:due to the amount of deaths]]. The fight scene between Bloodlusted Mythra and Malos is also insanely good, which helps too.
* SignatureSong: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1weNnjzaXbY The battle theme of Torna]] is one of the most popular songs of all of Xenoblade, and the most popular Torna song. It ended up getting in Smash, similarly to the other popular songs of the base game, and got a SuspiciouslySimilarSong in the battle theme for the similar expansion for its [[VideoGame/XenobladeChronicles1 predecessor]]'s Definitive Edition, ''Future Connected''.
* SpiritualAdaptation:
** To ''Film/RevengeOfTheSith'', as both are prequels featuring the main character being a swordsmen that due to a certain tragedy with their loved ones dying turn evil as a result. In addition, both have one of the characters have a BigNo near the end. It also helps that Stannif's explanation to Amalthus about the life cycle of Blades appears to directly mirror ''Revenge of the Sith''[='=]s opera house scene.
** An arguably closer connection would be to ''VideoGame/CrisisCore''. Both Torna & Crisis Core serve as prequels to their [[VideoGame/FinalFantasyVII respective JRPG's]], and feature a lot of the games' casts dying at the end, coupled with a white-haired swordsman going through a FaceHeelTurn, the death of TheHero who looks up to said white-haired swordsman, and a blonde sword-wielding central character from the original game suffering an emotional breakdown and being forced to witness said betrayal and death [[spoiler:and then using some bizarre mental lock to hide away their memories and cope with the anguish]]. This may even be the result of a deliberate CreatorThumbprint, as the idea for Cloud to develop a split personality in response to trauma is a holdover from Takahashi's initial proposal for ''FFVII'', which very loosely manifested in the final game as [[spoiler:him replacing his own memories and personality with Zack's]].
* {{Starboarding}}: Those who didn't fully jump off the Addam/Mythra ship still see Mythra as having had a crush on Addam.
* TakeThatScrappy:
** Mythra becomes the ButtMonkey of quite a few jokes from the other party members, which may end up being this trope for those who didn't care for her {{Tsundere}} moments in the main game.
** Mythra's "Girl's Talk" field skill is mentioned to "not be very useful" (and is unlocked so late in the game there's nothing left to do), indicating how it's easily one of the most useless field skills in the main game.
* ThatOneSidequest:
* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter: Lora herself. Despite being presented as the central protagonist of the story, she ultimately serves as a DecoyProtagonist not just to Jin but also to Mythra, with those two Blades taking up the bulk of the character development during the story. Some fans bemoan the fact that Lora's own character arc was resolved far too quickly (ending during the first visit to Torigoth), and that she remained a largely static SatelliteCharacter for Jin during most of the narrative despite her [[BillingDisplacement top-billed]] placement and CharacterShilling in-universe. While most fans agree that Lora helped make Jin a fantastic and sympathetic character, the problem is just that - Lora didn't have enough to stand on her own and make her feel like the central hero of the story.
* TierInducedScrappy:
* UnexpectedCharacter:
** Just like Territorial Rotbart and Immovable Gonzalez, Erratic Goliante is another [[KillerGorilla Gogol]] Unique Monster "returning" from [[VideoGame/XenobladeChronicles1 the first game]] and can easily be missed during a playthrough.
** While [[spoiler:Rex]] appearing in the game's epilogue isn't much of a surprise, the fact that [[spoiler:Mythra's premonitions of him play a significant role in the game's climax]] caught a lot of people off guard.
* TheWoobie: [[spoiler:Mythra suffers a lot through this DownerEnding]]. She [[spoiler: loses Milton]] because she wasn't going all out to stop Malos entirely, which makes her use an attack that [[spoiler:ends up destroying Torna and kills Hugo]], which means she wanted to be locked up entirely, until 500 years later, and at that point, all her old friends are dead, slowly dying, or [[FaceHeelTurn joined up with the very beings who caused her suffering in the first place]].
