* NightmareFuel:
** The opening scene is pretty nightmare-inducing, in a similar vein to the old "The Babysitter and the Man Upstairs" UrbanLegend. 19 year old Trish is babysitting the Frawley twins for the night and is on the phone to her boyfriend downstairs when she thinks she hears one of the girls cry out. As she heads upstairs to check, she tries to put on a light, but it doesn't work. Trish initially dismisses this as the old house's faulty wiring, but when she gets to the landing she realizes it's dark up there too, even though she should be able to see the twins' nightlight through the open door. Trish is certain she left the door open, with [[OhCrap her confusion turning to growing horror]] as she realizes that if the door had been left closed this whole time, she shouldn't have been able to hear the twins. Then she hears softly approaching footsteps and heavy breathing behind her...She's [[DeerInTheHeadlights too frozen in terror]] to do anything as the intruder grabs her and forces something over her mouth. She's later found tied and gagged in house, having no idea what happened to her or the twins, though she luckily wasn't further harmed.
** [[spoiler:Norman Bond's recollections of how he killed his ex-wife are utterly chilling; he expresses no remorse and even ''smiles'' at the memory of how frightened Theresa looked when he rose up from his hiding spot [[DangerTakesABackseat on her car's backseat]]. Theresa begged Norman to spare her, including pleading with him that she was pregnant. Norman was unmoved, with it being all but stated he killed her from spite and jealousy ''because'' she was pregnant by her new husband. It's not mentioned exactly how he killed her, though she was well aware she was going to die; it's also not mentioned what he did with her body, with all that grisly stuff being [[NothingIsScarier left to the reader's imagination]]. Norman also took Theresa's wedding ring from her body as a trophy of sorts; he emotionlessly recalls that it was difficult to remove because her fingers were swollen from her pregnancy. Then there's the fact he constantly wears her second wedding ring - along with the ring he gave her - on a necklace; he does so as a reminder he's not as pathetic as everyone thinks, taking ''pride'' in what he did. Norman walks around everyday with proof that he murdered Theresa around his neck, with no one being any the wiser]].

** Angie betraying and killing Lucas and then letting the Frawleys believe Kathy is dead purely so she can keep her for herself is pretty awful, shocking even Clint. Angie then crosses the line further by not even bothering to look after Kathy properly [[spoiler:and deciding to kill her after getting bored of her. It's hard to feel too bad about Clint offing her after that]].
** Clint was never an especially nice or sympathetic man, but he crosses the line from being an unscrupulous thief to a truly heinous person by [[spoiler:punching his girlfriend and leaving her and little Kathy to drown, purely to save his own skin]].

** [[spoiler:Norman Bond feeling heartbroken and bitter about his wife Theresa leaving him after their twins died, then marrying another man (who was apparently superior to him in many ways) a year later, is understandable. But he loses any sympathy when it's revealed he hunted down and killed Theresa to get back at her; he let her know he was going to kill her and showed no empathy or remorse even when she pleaded with him, including begging him not to kill her for the sake of her unborn twins. Norman then hid her body so well that no one knew what had happened to her for seventeen years, especially her new husband, with Norman being happy to let him suffer over Theresa's disappearance and the possibility she abandoned him]].

* TheWoobie: Amy Lindcroft is a fairly minor character who [[OneSceneWonder only appears in one scene]], but we're told just enough of her backstory that it's easy to feel bad for her. She was [[SerialSpouse Gregg Stanford's first wife]] and didn't initially realize he only married her to further his career via her connections, remaining oblivious for ten years. He began cheating on her with his future second wife Tina - who was Amy's former college roommate and [[TwoTimingWithTheBestie best friend]] at the time - and announced he was leaving Amy for Tina shortly after she found out she was pregnant with his child. The shock and heartbreak caused her to miscarry, and she needed an emergency hysterectomy to stop the bleeding. While Amy has managed to rebuild her life, it's clear she still feels sad at times about [[LawOfInverseFertility never being able to have children]] and what Gregg did to her.
