* AlasPoorScrappy: Regardless of how one feels about Dave, a lot of fans didn't want the season to end with him abandoned by the group and being left with an UncertainDoom.
* ItWasHisSled: One of the many reasons why Dave is so polarizing is because this is the episode where he goes crazy, loses his sanity and is willing to literally burn half a million dollars to spite Sky after finding out that she already has a boyfriend.
* RealismInducedHorror: One of the many reasons why Dave is such a divisive character is because his obsession with Sky has not only ruined the relationship he's always wanted with her but also his friendship with Shawn and his sanity in general. There are people out there in the real world who let their obsessions get so out of control, that it not only ruins their sanity but also their lives as well.

* TheyChangedItNowItSucks: The absence of almost all of the season's contestants during the finale challenge was something all fans highly disliked in the episode, as in the first four seasons, all the eliminated contestants returned to watch the finale and support their chosen finalists. Here, all contestants, minus the finalists and their helpers, are implied to be inside the helicopter, but because of only Jasmine and Dave being selected to assist Shawn and Sky, only these two emerge from the helicopter to join their finalists. It doesn't help that [[Recap/TotalDramaTheFinalWreckening the finale]] of ''All-Stars'', the previous season to this, also did the same thing.

I don't think he wanted to kill her because he explicitly stated his plan was to burn the money in front of her, she'd have to be alive for that.
