** People who criticise the movie for its FourthDateMarriage plot, including TheNostalgiaChick, might not have felt the same way had they known the love story is actually an ''improvement'' from the original story by Hans Christian Andersen, where Thumbelina and the prince didn't meet until the end and ''immediately'' decided to marry. In this movie they meet at the beginning and at least has a FallingInLoveMontage which honestly doesn't make it much different from most Disney love stories out there.

*** The theory of her being in love with the Mole actually makes the [[SoBadItsGood song Marry the Mole]] make perfect sense. Listening to it again, [[FridgeBrilliance it's a very cynical view of love and how it's better to marry to ensure you're taken care of.]]

* AdultFear: For any parent afraid of losing their daughter. Thumbelina gets kidnapped and forced to marry a sleaze, but escapes only to be lured by a shady nightclub owner into dancing for entertainment (and her clothes come off towards the end). She's then taken in by a rich old creep who also wants to keep her for himself as repayment for his kindness. The whole film feels an awful lot like a euphemism for child sex-trafficking.

** It was actually Randy Crenshaw doing a spot-on GilbertGottried impression for Mr. Beetle's singing voice.

* TheWoobie: ''Thumbelina'', so much. she's born to a loving mother, but life is somewhat difficult due to the fact she's so small, and she's the only person she knows of who is of that size. Then she gets kidnapped just after meeting Cornelius, stalked by Mrs. Toad's amorous son, humiliated by the Beetle and nearly freezes to death. ''Then'' Mrs. Field Mouse blithely tells her the love of her life is dead and tries to force her into marrying a {{Jerkass}} Mole. Damn, girl.

* SuspiciouslySimilarSong: "Let Me Be Your Wings," as pointed out by TheNostalgiaChick, is an obvious rip-off of [[Disney/{{Aladdin}} "A While New World,"]].
