* UnintentionalUncannyValley: The Powerpuffs. As the characters are designed to look ridiculously cute, they have rather big eyes, and a lack of fingers, toes, noses, and ears. A number of jokes in the show revolve around their appearance because of this, and there's even an episode that showed what would happen if the FreakLabAccident never occurred and girls turn out to be the Run of the Mill Girls instead, without their unique cuteness features.

** The whole series makes it clear that the titular trio literally don't have fingers or noses. They're also, as said on at least one occasion, "bug-eyed freaks" with abnormally large and cutesy eyes. Expect fanart to depict them as cute children (or attractive teens/adults) with noses and fingers, and more normal facial and body proportions.
** The one-off Bunny from the season 2 episode' "Twisted Sister" was a {{gonk}} due to being created incorrectly compared to Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup. Fan-art usually depicts her BackFromTheDead and with the same physical appearance as the other Powerpuffs.
** Another one-episode character, Mr. Green from "Substitute Teacher", is often bishified in fanart, despite the episode revolving about [[DarkIsNotEvil how scary he looks in spite of being a nice guy]].

* WhatDoYouMeanItsNotForLittleGirls: The series was not originally intended for little girls. Craig [=McCracken=] created it as a parody of the MagicalGirl genre, as he was getting sick of Anime/SailorMoon [[AdoredByTheNetwork playing on Cartoon Network every day]]. As a TakeThat, he set the girls' ages very low, had them do very inelegant things, and made the villains cheesier than Kraft Macaroni and Cheese Dinners. The intended audience for it was the same as Dexter's Laboratory -- animation fans in their teens, 20s, and 30s -- [[AnimationAgeGhetto but it had to be child-appropriate]] (This was in the days before Adult Swim). A show like this naturally attracted little girls anyway.

** In "Town and Out," when chasing criminals, the girls had [[DestructiveSavior destroyed the Citiesville bridge to capture the crooks]], to which the Mayor pointed out that [[SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome its worth $3 million in property damages]]. In 2024, [[https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Francis_Scott_Key_Bridge_collapse the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore collapsed]], and one of the reasons is a structural flaw that would cause $3 million to take care of.

** Was "A Very Special Blossom" a mean-spirited stain on the show's second season that made everybody too out of character, causing it to be some sort of a disservice to Father's Day, or was it a heartwarming one that shows another side to Blossom, wanting to make her father happy and at the same time learning a valuable lesson about stealing, and why it's wrong?
** The final 2 seasons (made without Creator/CraigMcCracken's involvement) gain pretty polarizing opinions. Some think that it ended the series on a very low note, with rather cringeworthy episodes that drag at a snail's pace and make the characters dumb for no reason, proving positive the staff were running out of ideas. Others think that those seasons are pretty good, with some memorable ones that bring some new things to the table and others that pay homage to creators of past cartoons, such as Creator/JayWard.

** Bubbles' special power is her sonic screams. Except it's not. Her special power is her ability to speak many different languages (including animal languages like squirrel). Whilst Bubbles has used sonic scream more often then the other girls, it is an ability they all share. Not helping things is that nearly all video games (except Relish Rampage, where she is given a stronger eye beam called "vaporize") give sonic screams as Bubbles's unique power equivalent to Blossom's ice breath. [[note]] And in case you're wondering, the video games tend to give Buttercup either whirlwinds or fireballs has her special power[[/note]]

* GirlShowGhetto: The show's titular characters are very young girls that act are rather stereotypically "girly" in many different ways, from acting, to their wardrobe, etc., all while being the main heroes who fight crime. Because of this, a lot of men mention that as boys they were embarrassed to be seen watching a "girl's show" like ''The Powerpuff Girls'', and treated it as a GuiltyPleasure. This is despite the fact that the show wasn't female-aimed at all; it was an unisex cartoon that had the same aesthetic as other Cartoon Network shows at the time, which wasn't really favoring a specific gender to say the least.[[note]]The show was originally pitched as an over-the-top parody of the MagicalGirl genre, after all.[[/note]] This has faded a lot over the years though, especially going into ''TheNewTwenties'', with works having very "girly" ActionGirl heroines having become a lot more commonplace, and kids who saw the show in their youth have grown up and appreciate how ahead of its time it was for not having other characters mock the heroes for being girls.

** It's fairly obvious that Lenny Baxter from "Collect Her" was intended to be this. He's a grown man who's so obsessed with the girls that he collects every last piece of their merch, steals their personal belongings when he runs out of things to buy, and then ''kidnaps'' the girls when even that isn't enough to satisfy him. Thanks to that, it is very common for him to be portrayed as a pedophile.

* AlternateSelfShipping: AlternativeJokeInterpretation: The fact that Miss Bellum's face is never shown was intended as a parody of MaleGaze, but some younger viewers thought of it as a joke about her being [[StatuesqueStunner really tall]]; the fact that she's played as the {{foil}} to the very short Mayor might have helped reinforce this idea.
