* HarsherInHindsight: This game puts more focus on the friendship between Jack and Dr. Finkelstein, with an entire [[IKnowYoureInThereSomewhereFight boss fight]] (and musical number) showcasing how far Jack will go for the old doctor. In ''Literature/TheNightmareBeforeChristmasLongLiveThePumpkinQueen'', however, [[spoiler:their friendship falls apart when it's revealed that Dr. Finkelstein kidnapped Sally from Dream Town and erased all memory of her past, causing Jack to sentence him to 100 years of community service in Dream Town.]]
-->'''Jack:''' ''(singing)'' Your intentions are evil, your thoughts are all bad, the thing that you work for is no more than a cad! When finally I get that foul brain out of you, you'll see no more foe, but a friend that is true!

** While remixing the musical numbers from the film is part of the whole point, some fans have expressed disappointment that the game only features a single new song.

Neither of these are funny things, just awkward flaws.

* {{Narm}}:
** Some of the lyrics to the remixed songs feel a bit off and you can tell even the voice actors struggled to deliver them, most prominently when Jack awkwardly drags out "Our Halloweeeen" towards the end of "Take Our Town Back" or how Oogie has to resort to laughing during the second iteration of his song.
** During the FinalBattle, Jack declares "Halloweentown is mine!" in a tone that makes it sound like he and Oogie are two supervillains fighting over the town. You have to wonder if the townsfolk, who are watching via the town square fountain, got any red flags from that.

** When Oogie's on the brink of defeat, he refuses to accept it, and after landing at Holiday Trash Hill roars and summons forth all the bugs and junk from the junkyard. By the time Jack arrives, Oogie has gone OneWingedAngel, transforming into a ten story high monster with a ruptured head meant to resemble a crown, his belly churning and rippling from the sheer mass of filth inside him. The only saving grace is that he's incredibly slow, but given how poorly the townspeople took his takeover, Mega-Oogie could've laid waste to Halloweentown and any other holiday.
*** When Jack defeats the first phase, Oogie ''still'' refuses to give up, still towering over Jack even when he's been brought to his knees. Then the ''real'' fight begins, and Oogie is more angry, violent, and murderous than we've ever seen him. This is personal, and Oogie refuses to go down without a fight for his kingdom.

*** Similar to the above is a somber music box arrangement which sounds almost appropriate for a game over screen or for a sad reunion between Jack and Sally.

Typo.

** It has gained one with ''Franchise/DevilMayCry'' due to the same developers and gameplay mechanics. It went on to the point that the ''Devil May Cry'' sequel games are inspired by this game.

* FriendlyFandoms: As such, since it's pretty much a ''Kingdom Hearts'' game set entirely in ''The Nightmare Before Christmas'', many fans of that series regard the game with fondness. Some even want the game to be [[RecursiveAdaptation adapted]] into a future installment of ''Kingdom Hearts''.

* SugarWiki/HeReallyCanAct: While Oogie had some menacing moments in the film, Ken Page ''really'' knocks it out of the park showing just how terrifying he can be as the game reaches the end. He sounds genuinely threatening and imposing during his ''very'' angry delivery of "A Filthy Finale".

** After having Creator/DannyElfman as his singing double in the original film, Creator/ChrisSarandon actually does the singing as well as the speaking parts as Jack, and does a surprisingly outstanding job.

** The creepy theme that plays when Jack returns in the first level, as well as most prominently during "The Vampire Brothers" is appropriately eerie. The level itself also has a creepy lead-in, as you discover a note from the Vampires that they were trapped in their bat forms, and subsequently have to walk around the dark, scary homestead where they're hiding looking for them.

** Santa is strung up to be essentially fed to a mechanical train which will chop him up into pieces if it gets a hold of him. If the player fails, we get a cutscene where Santa cries out a BigNo - [[NothingIsScarier and we never see him again]], just Jack's horrified reaction.

* TearJerker: The reprise of "Sally's Song", where Sally laments everyone in Halloween Town being deceived by Oogie and Jack tries to assure her that everything will be alright.

* {{Fanon}}: Many feel that the game makes far more sense if you assume it takes place in continuity with VideoGame/KingdomHearts rather than the actual movie.
