As is said at the end, the conversations are relevant to the location they are at, so this doesn't qualify.

* BigLippedAlligatorMoment:
** The defeat of [[EvilSorceror Roper Klacks]]. You hand him an ordinary calculator, he pushes a few buttons, and he's somehow ''sucked into it.'' No explanation for why or how it happens. The best theory is that magic and tech are known not to play nicely together and since Klacks is a mage......
** Every time Cortez talks about art. He seems to just ramble on about it, talking about how modern art or film is inferior to his opinion of "true" art or film. Then, he abruptly segues into what April really wants to talk about. Not truly irrelevant to the plot as with the film discussion they are at the Mercury Theatre and with the art discussion they are at the Roma Gallery.

* WhatDoYouMeanItsNotForKids: As one may notice from the picture of the cover box, the game is rated "M" in North America, but it's still easy to scoff it as there's nothing too grim or edgy about the game's unassuming female protagonist and its whimsical fantasy world. Once you spend some hours, it becomes clear the game lives up to that rating. Sexual innuendo and heavy swearing are frequent, the conversation between Burns and April being the obvious example. By modern standards, it's still tamer than what you've come to expect from a game that's rated M, but the game is still not particularly kid friendly. Most European releases were rated ''11+'', likely due to several of the localized versions having much milder swearing.

Added DiffLines:

* CreatorBacklash: In retrospective comments, Ragnar Tørnquist has been critical of the casting of Norwegian television personality and comedian Synnøve Svabø as April Ryan in the Norwegian version. Tørnquist, who had no say in the Norwegian casting, felt that the choice of Svabø was pure StuntCasting by publisher IQ Media as she was famous in Norway at the time and that Svabø, who is not a professional actress, was just playing herself rather than the role. This likely contributed to the recasting of April in the Norwegian version of ''Dreamfall'', and Tørnquist said that he would not ask Svabø to reprise the role if a Norwegian version of ''Dreamfall Chapters'' was made when asked during its crowdfunding campaign.

[[FlatWhat Instead of Newport, there would be an alternative Leningrad (aka St.-Petersburg) in an alternative Russia where Communism still carried on, in a year 1997, and instead of Arcadia, Russians would get the Faraway Kingdom, based on Russian fairy tales and mythology. * VideoGameCaringPotential: April has been named the best developed video game protagonist (at the time) for a reason.

[[folder:Dreamfall: The Longest Journey]]
* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic: The whole soundtrack is a standout, especially if you like Trance music, but Magnet's [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=18c-gUzzK8Q "Be With You"]] is a stand-out.
* BrokenBase:
** Whether you like April or Zoe more is SeriousBusiness.
** The direction April's character arc took in ''Dreamfall'' has been controversial, to say the least. While some ''TLJ'' fans agreed with the writers that her attitude in ''Dreamfall'' is a [[SoWhatDoWeDoNow realistic outcome of her sacrifices and traumas]] in the first game, others argue that the April from ''TLJ'' had enough mental resilience to work through them. WordOfGod [[https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2008/08/20/ragnar-tornquist-on-dreamfall-faith/ back in 2008]] was that the events immediately after ''TLJ'' are crucial to understanding the massive change in her character... too bad that they've never revealed said events, and likely never will, now that ''TLJ Home'' has been effectively canceled.
* RomanticPlotTumor: Some fans feel the romance between Zoe and Damien was forced into the plot.
* ScrappyMechanic: The combat and stealth sections. Ignoring the question of whether someone playing an AdventureGame would want to do those sort of things, and whether they count as padding, the combat is slow and unresponsive but can forced through by mashing the heavy attack button, and the game is finicky about what makes a sound when you step on it in the stealth segments.
* {{Squick}}: The ''entire'' scene where [[spoiler:Zoe meets Alvin Peats. Really, the scene was awkward enough when he ''wasn't'' talking.]]
* ThatOneLevel: The Necropolis section is so convoluted and confusing (not to mention being populated by enemies who can OneHitKill April if the spot her), even the original developers themselves had enormous trouble getting through it. Thankfully, [[http://www.theundreaming.com/showthread.php?970-How-to-get-through-the-Dreamfall-caves-easily there exists]] a GoldenPath through it.
* WhatDoYouMeanItsNotPolitical: Azadi people are the followers of religion, and one of its defining features is the necessity to fight the unbelievers. [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jihad Well, damn me if that doesn't sound familiar]]. What really drives the analogy home, though, is [[http://www.minstrum.net/concept_art/dreamfall_103.jpg their architecture style]].
* TheWoobie: Zoë. When we first meet her, she's looking for a purpose in her life, since college allegedly didn't work out for her very well. We see across the course of the game, her friends text her and tell her to come back to college in South Africa. She broke up with Reza, but cares enough about him to help out with his work. Over the course of the game, we see her and another man fall in love with each other, and we never figure out what happens to him. Then [[spoiler: the ending...]]
** April Ryan. [[VideoGame/TheLongestJourney The entire last game]] was [[spoiler: building up to the fact that she will be the next Guardian]], but things turned out to be the complete opposite. And now April is roaming Arcadia without any purpose, with a traumatic experience that makes her no good, unable to go back home, unable to find her peace and having lost many of her friends and dear ones. And just when [[spoiler: she may have found someone she may be able to trust, [[YourPrincessIsInAnotherCastle comes the ending]]...]]
** Once you've learned about Faith backstory and [[spoiler: have see her dying]], you'll never stop crying. Ever.

[[folder: Dreamfall Chapters]]
* AcceptablePoliticalTargets: There are four different political parties mentioned: The Marxists are considered [[WellIntentionedExtremist well intentioned, but far too radical and fringe to appeal to the mainstream voter]]; Kostantin Wolf is ANaziByAnyOtherName; Dieter Gross, the incumbent conservative, has little to no chance of getting re-elected as his party has been plagued by corruption scandals and has been largely blamed for Europolis' economic problems, but he is also considered "boring" (and the fact that he's a white man is brought up against him). The person Zoe supports is Lea Uminska, the only one treated positively (if considered somewhat wishy-washy), who is the democratic socialist. As this is a European game, it's hardly surprising. [[spoiler:And even Uminska's positive image only lasts until part way through Book 2.]]
* {{Anvilicious}}:
** The Social Democrats are the only political party spoken off positively. Communists are considered fringe but positive. Conservatives are considered to be either incompetent or evil. WordOfGod suggested it wasn't going to hold true through the game - and as of Book 2, when you receive a WhamEpisode...
** Books 3 and 4 have the potential for both Kian and Likho to deliver long-winded speeches about acceptance of homosexuality. It doesn't help that, in the whole series of games, they're the only ones to bring it up.
* CatharsisFactor: Admit it - it felt ''VERY'' satisfying to [[spoiler: light Onor Hilleriss on fire. And not just because he was going to kill Crow.]]
* CrossesTheLineTwice: Pretty much Mira's character. She's extremely antagonistic, to the point where she thinks Wit is faking his autism, but she's so over the top about it that it comes off as entertaining rather than insulting. Mira [[OOCIsSeriousBusiness tones her act down in book three]] - when the plot starts getting ''real''.
* EnsembleDarkhorse:
** A [[CuteMonsterGirl cute]], [[TalkativeLoon rambling]], overeager CatGirl? [[SarcasmMode No, there's no way Enu would turn out to be incredibly popular.]] The devs have acknowledged as much.
** On the Stark side, Shitbot. Nothing like an ridiculously overeager robot terrible at everything, gleefully talking about how a security system will kill you. There's also the name... [[spoiler: as well as its HeroicSacrifice for Zoë in book three]]
** Less popular (simply since most players never meet it), but Shitbots alternative version is also extremely popular. A emoji-faced bot with an adorable voice that plays with you and is just nothing but sweet? Chances are, everytime Zoë goes {{Squee}}, the player will join her.
** Saga, due to her mysterious background.
* FollowTheLeader: This game seems almost like the kind of game that would be made if you took the employees of a Creator/TelltaleGames product and put them on another product. This is actually [[TropesAreTools not a bad thing at all]] - Some players of both products found the similarities more appealing, and a few even believe that they did a few aspects about the Telltale formula better than Telltale.
* HarsherInHindsight:
** For Europeans (Especially Brits), Europolis is either this or Zoë's doctor's comments about how his dad wishes for it to break up is this.
** Onor Hilleriss' running for City Watch, sexist views, and stance against people who are different, eerily mirrors the persona of President Donald Trump.
* JerkassWoobie: [[spoiler: Brian Westhouse, the Prophet. He's stuck in an alternate universe. He was also possessed by the Undreaming for several centuries, and even tried to prevent it from getting loose by sealing it in someone else.]] However, some of his cruel actions don't come off as [[spoiler: the sole fault of the Undreaming.]]
* MemeticMutation: [[http://i.minus.com/iZXxn8hzmNISd.gif Cannon stroking]] is a popular one among the fanbase[[labelnote:Explanation]]It originated from the {{Website/Kickstarter}} videos [[http://youtu.be/-5h7l4KsCXI?t=41s blooper reel]] [[/labelnote]].
** Sausagequences. ItMakesSenseInContext. [[labelnote:Explanation]]In the first book, one "Choice" that Zoë made was what she buys from Nela for Reza's lunch, Cheese Soup or Pork Sausages. Despite the game saying the choice will give consequences for multiple books, it ultimately turns out to not mean much beyond some minor dialogue changes[[/labelnote]].
* MoralEventHorizon: Ge'en is this for plenty of Azadi - the events of this as well as the planned [[spoiler: Genocide]] of Magical races cause some to actually turn against their own commanders
* MostAnnoyingSound: During the brief first interlude when playing as Saga, Saga will run and make really annoying baby noises. Since she walks very slowly, most people will instinctively hold down the key.
* {{Narm}}: Near the ending to Rebels, as [[spoiler:Nela charges towards EYE headquarters with a bomb]], you get to say an incredibly awkward and hilarious sound clip. The fact you can shout [[spoiler:"NEEEEELLLLLLAAAAAA"]] repeatedly doesn't help.
** Can be invoked by the player. Some puzzles require you to act fast - such as say listening to a racist person talk. Keep waiting and he will just keep stalling for time.
* NoExportForYou: The final decision to have the game cut into episodes made things very difficult for quite a few foreign publishers, who ended up not being able to release the game in a particular language. One of those was Poland's [[Creator/CDProjektRed cdp.pl]] who had already confirmed that the newest installment of the much beloved there saga would, just like the previous two, receive full Polish voice over. When Red Thread Games announced that the game would not be released as a single entity but rather split into chapters, CD Projekt had to pull the plug on the whole project. Ironically, while investigating the whole thing one of fans called the actress who had played Zoë in ''Dreamfall'' and she initially believed he was offering her to reprise her role in ''Chapters'', which she was allegedly very enthusiastic about.
** On the whole, when it comes to languages, Red Thread Games earned quite a lot of hate from its foreign or even domestic fanbase, seeing as the game, part of a franchise that's widely considered the crowning achievement of the Norwegian gaming industry, did not get any Norwegian version at all (as opposed to the previous two) and was instead available only with English and German-speaking casts as well as with French subtitles. To make things worse, the latter two were notoriously released with massive delays compared to English.
* PlayerPunch:
** In the very beginning, [[spoiler:April's funeral]]. With a start like this, this story can only end well.
** For some, the deaths of Damien Cavanaugh (and how he was framed for the Dreammachine fiasco) and Olivia de Marco (because [[KilledToUpholdTheMasquerade she knew too much]]) are quite harsh.
** The death of [[spoiler: Baruti]], the game saying "Your choices have led you to this point" doesn't do ''any'' extra justice... Followed by [[spoiler: Nela's death]]... especially if you were nice to them.
** The much more minor example: The deaths of [[spoiler: Kidbot or Shitbot when they get you out of Mr. London's warehouse. Either you've grown to like Kidbot for how cute it is and Shitbot for how hilarious it is, or just feel their responses as they go out are bad.]]
** A raid on the [[spoiler: Resistance Headquarters in Book 4. Blind Bob is dead, and depending on your choices, Shepherd[[note]]if Likho went with Kian[[/note]], Likho[[note]]if he was left behind[[/note]] or Enu[[note]]if Na'ane's treason was exposed[[/note]] will also be dead.]]
** In book 5 [[spoiler: Crow is killed rather abruptly when the Prophet snaps his neck.]]
* RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap: A few scrappy-portions (the EscortMission at the start of the game, being forced to make pointless decisions with Baruti) were thankfully changed in the Final Cut.
* TheScrappy:
** Anna isn't particularly well-liked for essentially being a StalkerWithACrush toward Kian, and forcing herself onto him even though he clearly has no interest in her.
*** TakeThatScrappy: Saga gets in a decent slam against her, towards the end of the game.
-->"I have no idea who you are, so I'm going to assume you're not that important."
** Likho has few fans, for the {{Anvilicious}} way he talks about homosexuality. Also, because getting along with him requires rejecting EnsembleDarkhorse Enu. He gets somewhat saved from this, if one let's him come along to Ge'en where he will open up and may become like a brother to Kia. It may not save him though if [[spoiler: people prefered Shepherd over him]].
* ThatOneBoss: When [[spoiler: a gun is pulled on Likho/Hami]], you have to [[spoiler: turn BEHIND you]] instead of warning him or knocking down the person with the gun.
* TheyChangedItNowItSucks: Many fans are very vocal about the main character Zoë [[https://s3.amazonaws.com/ksr/projects/397998/photo-main.jpg?1359986434 now having a nose piercing]]. The developers are considering to give the player the option whether wearing it or not. However she lacks one in the game proper, so it could be a case of AuthorsSavingThrow.
* UncannyValley: Sometimes, the models look... wrong, between the flapping jaws (See SpecialEffectFailure) or Kian's eyes bugging out. Even in the Final Cut, some models look... strange.
* SpecialEffectFailure:
** The game looks ''beautiful'', especially on modern computers. Despite this, the characters' hair is rendered as a stiff piece - and this can lead to some rather embarrassing mishaps such as Zoë's hair clipping through her clothes.
** The scene with a confrontation is unintentionally hilarious for several reasons: First off, the goons are holding a man's arms behind his back, and his fingers clip through them. Then a man, if Zoë chooses to interfere, will speak to her in Cantonese. His cane is visibly clipping into his shoulder and a humorous glitch can happen where his mouth doesn't open when he talks.
** Some of Anna's scenes turn into {{Narm}} when you see her hair ''visibly'' clipping through her hood and her scarf.
** The limitations of the Unity Engine show again - characters mouth movements sometimes look more like they're just flapping their mouths.
** The game uses multiple audio channels, so it can quickly happen that there are two to three dialogues happening at the same time (such as looking at something, then instantly going into a conversation plus a NPC conversation happening in the background.
** Looking at an object multiple times to quickly can lead to no audio, with the subtitles looping. Or with the audio suddenly switching from one description to the other in the middle.
** The eyes of the game characters seem to be unable to focus on anything, resulting in a lot of [[ThousandYardStare thousand yard stares]].
* TheWoobie: Zoe tells her story at the very beginning of the game. She uncovered a conspiracy and her own mother, Helena Chang, put her into a coma. Zoe's had months to come to terms with it, but it's still pretty raw for her. She's also lost Olivia (her best friend) and Damien (her partner and [[ShipTease romantic love interest]] after Reza).
** Saga, who spent much of her childhood essentially as a prisoner in The House Of All Worlds. [[note]]Although, it's because her father feared losing her to the aether, like her mother.[[/note]] As an adult, it's implied that, although she has the power to "walk between worlds", she still doesn't seem to have much free-will in her life. Always having to follow certain prophecies, making sure certain things happen, etc.
