* ForeShadowing: Among the cave paintings in the Lion Guard's lair, one in particular stands out; Scar appears in the clouds, glaring down at the volcano where the hyenas hide out, possibly hinting at some involvement in their scheme (just as Mufasa does for Kion and his friends).
* SameCharacterButDifferent: Kiara as a cub hated the idea of becoming queen in ''Simba's Pride,'' but here she's beyond pleased with the idea and lords it over Kion. Also, she was shown to be a very poor hunter even as an adult in ''Simba's Pride,'' having to be taught by Kovu, but here she seems to be a pro already as a cub.
** Her fur seems to be several shades lighter than it was in the movie.

* CarnivoreConfusion: The three non-carnivores of the team must find it disturbing to see Kion and Fuli having dinner (Bunga gets a pass if he's strictly insectivore like Timon). One can suppose the "Circle of Life" doctrine drives everybody stoic in front of death due to (reasonable) predation. The Hyenas are foes because they're ChaoticEvil, hunting largely for fun and chaos.
** It is also very convenient that no carnivore characters are ever shown feeding on "anybody" in the whole franchise.

** And one for the entire, newly-minted Lion Guard during the ending climax, both for coming together and succeeding with driving off the hyenas and for Bunga's quick thinking in scattering the stampeding Gazelles away from an injured Kiara. With his "''fart''"!
* CrowningMomentOfFunny: Beshte says the phrase, "Well, pull my tail and call me a meerkat!" Bunga retorts, "My uncle's a meerkat!", to which Beshte says no offense, then after a beat says, "Aren't you a honey badger?"
** Simba says he needs to talk to Kion. Kion assumes it's [[TheTalk THE Talk]] and protests that he's heard it already ("Can you feel the Love tonight?")

* BaseBreaker: Kion gets this treatment for just existing. Many Kopa fans are especially bitter.

** While most fans are ecstatic that there is a new series (especially as it is not an AllCGICartoon) there are disagreements on Kion. While he could theoretically have been born after the second movie, some fans still wish it were about Kiara's and Kovu's offspring instead.

** The reveal that this isn't even a ''sequel'' strictly speaking put many fans on the edge. The fact Kion and Kiara are both cubs makes it a very noticeable {{retcon}}, raising lots of questions about the coherence with ''Simba's pride'' events. Fans were expecting Kiara to be at least his teenage sister, in a storyline set after the reunification of the prides, and lots of fanarts featured this idea.
** The whole concept of a "Lion Guard" and especially Kion's roaring powers make a lot of fans groan. The series was never 100% accurate about the african wildlife, putting a bit of mysticism with Rafiki shamanism and Mufasa's ghost as well as some DisneyAcidSequence, but this is glaringly less realistic than any other aspects.
