* BaseBreakingCharacter: Callie, Robert, Jude and Brandon fall in this
* ConflictBall: Callie in season 3 episode 2, when Jude wants to invite Donald, his biological father and the man who raised Callie for years, to a Father's Day dinner at their house, and Callie shows instant hatred for both the idea and for Donald, saying that he never cared about them, only signed his parental rights away to get them out of his life, and that he killed their mother. This goes against a previous episode, where Donald tells Callie he cares about them and wants to eventually regain custody, but she begged him to sign the papers to relinquish his rights, and Callie had specifically stated that he didn't kill her mother.

* StrawmanHasAPoint: Although it's natural for the viewer to root for Callie's adoption in Season Three, it would be hard to argue that the obstructing social worker's concerns are entirely without merit. Callie and Brandon have had a very unhealthy sibling/romantic dynamic for most of the show, which has negatively affected both of them and the entire family, and they (especially Callie) seem to have almost a compulsion to periodically pursue it even when it is completely against their own best interests. The fact that success relied on multiple people having to lie for them should probably have been a clue to them that all wasn't well, even though the protagonists never seemed to consider the problems pointed out by the social worker as at all legitimate.

* TearJerker: the end of "The Honeymoon," with [[spoiler: Callie intentionally shoplifting food from a convenience store in order to get arrested]]. The utter lack of hope in her eyes as she eats a candy bar while crying is ''devastating''

It's mitigated by [[spoiler: a pep talk by Rita to not despair, Stef's assurance to Callie that they're not going to give up on her getting adopted, and Jude getting adopted (even though he said he didn't want to if Callie wasn't)]]
