* TearJerker: André's story is quite tragic: he's a brilliant scientist with a loving wife and son who created a teleportation device hoping to change the world, innovate transportation, and solve world hunger, as well as use it for space travel. Then, when he tests it himself, a fly goes into his pod, leaving him with its head and left arm. As his wife and housemaid fail to catch the fly with his head and arm, André's mind slowly degenerates to a fly-like state, forcing him to allow Hélène to kill him before he becomes a murderous monster.

* FridgeHorror: André retained his human brain despite the transformation giving him the head of a fly and thus making him unable to communicate, with a plot point being that his mind is slowly degrading as his fly components take over. That most likely meant that the fly retained its insect mind, and thus didn't have any cognitive functions or the capacity to understand what had happened to it. Also, it's implied that, while André's mind degraded to a fly-like state, the fly's mind became increasingly human, allowing it to not only speak, but express emotions.

* NarmCharm: While the "HEEEELP MEEEE!" climax may seem corny due to the fly's cartoony, high-pitched vocals combined with the now-outdated special effects, many have still found it terrifying due to it playing to humanity's universal fear of being EatenAlive. Many also found the fly's high-pitched voice ''more'' terrifying than if it spoke with a normal voice, as it conveys how helpless and tiny the fly is against the spider.

* SignatureScene: The scene where the André-headed fly is revealed is often the subject of parody. It was even referenced as a MythologyGag in [[Film/TheFly1986 the 1986 remake]], when Seth -- under completely different circumstances -- whimpers "Help me. Please, help me".

** The infamous "HEEEELP MEEEE!" climax for some, though others find it NightmareFuel. They had to keep reshooting the scene because Creator/VincentPrice and Creator/HerbertMarshall couldn't stop cracking up, and Creator/DavidHedison (who played André and the André-headed fly) found the high-pitched voice more funny than horrifying.
* NarmCharm: While the André-headed fly's cartoony, high-pitched voice may seem funny, many have found it ''more'' terrifying than if it spoke with a normal voice, as it makes the fly seem more helpless and pathetic.
