The worst that happened to her in the past is getting a job she disliked, babysitting, because she could not hunt big game very well nor did she have true merit to be in the Lion Guard.(Its noted she would be exiled if she did nto pull her weight in the pride, which seems harsh but makes sense as survival in the wild is harsh). Also she was offered many chances at improvement but spurred or ignored all of them and justify herself with twisted logic and shows no remorse for her actions. It was explicitly pointed out by Kiara later that Belladonna could have just talked to her if she hated the role of babysitter so much and they could have figured something out; the majority of her complaints stem more from a sense of entitlement than anything, as Belladonna clearly thinks of herself as some grand warrior of Zira's while in reality she was merely a grunt. Additionally, she blindly idolizes Zira, a loyalist of an evil king and abusive parent, and outright admits to the cubs she [[spoiler: was trying to kill the out of spite to their parents for being happier than she is.]]

She was mostly a BaseBreakingCharacter initially, as explained above, but as the comic went on and Belladonna began [[spoiler:plotting to murder Kiara's three cubs]], more and more people started condemning Belladonna. Although she is meant to be a villain and not truly sympathetic, many find her constant complaining and moping annoying. Other commonly cited complaints Belladonna's tendency to cling to the delusional worldview Zira implanted in her out of stubbornness, her ignoring or rejecting everything good she is graced with (great quality of life in pride lands, love of friends and Kiara's family, trust, etc.), rejecting attempts by the other lionesses to help her through her problems, and lacking any of the charisma that Scar or Zira had that made them enjoyable to watch. Once Belladonna [[spoiler: started plotting to murder Kiara's three innocent cubs, who look up to Belladonna like an aunt, ]] this debate became much more heated, with one side beginning to outright hate Belladonna in the way one might a *TheSCrappy while another side noted how she is supposed to be a villain in the first place and is thus intentionally not meant too be fully likable.
