* CompleteMonster: [[{{Deconstruction}} Deconstructed]]. Kuzco, while arguably entertaining, is irredeemable for the first half of the film. Pacha's interactions with and reactions to Kuzco are based on a belief that "there is some good in everyone", but, [[spoiler:after Kuzco leaves him to die hanging from a bridge,]] he concedes angrily that Kuzco proved him wrong. After this admission, they are mutually thrown into peril, and, with their lives at stake, cooperate to negotiate themselves out of danger. Then, [[spoiler:as Pacha begins falling to his death,]] Kuzco does something unprecedented [[spoiler: by saving his life]]. After this, Pacha reaffirms his belief, with Kuzco as his evidence.

* RootingForTheEmpire: Let's face it, Kronk and Yzma are far more entertaining characters than Kuzco. Some viewers even wish that Kuzko ''doesn't'' get better just because they want to see the villains succeed.

* RootingForTheEmpire: Let's face it, It isn't that Kuzco and Pacha ''aren't'' entertaining, so much as [[EvilIsCool Kronk and Yzma are far more entertaining characters than Kuzco. Some Yzma]] [[EnsembleDarkhorse flat-out steal the show]], to the point that some viewers even wish that Kuzko ''doesn't'' get better just because they want to see the villains succeed.

* {{Anvilicious}}: Like most animated films today, the PowerOfFriendship is presented in full force. Unlike most animated films today, it manages to work in the movie's favor (e.g. Kuzco is a total jerk, but he becomes a better person as he spends more time with the much nicer Pacha, and their cooperation helps get the both of them out of certain issues).

* TearJerker: A meta example: the failure of Roger Allers[[note]]Who was a spearheader on ''WesternAnimation/TheLionKing'', let's be clear[[/note]] to make the film as he wanted it to be, the mystical Incan epic ''Kingdom of the Sun''. Sure, ''New Groove'' is a funny little flick, ''[[WhatCouldHaveBeen buuuut]]''...
