* MagnificentBastard: [[HypnoFool Voltan]] is a stage magician who hypnotizes insurance investigators C.W. Briggs and Betty Ann Fitzgerald during a routine magic show, only to trigger their hypnotic states again for his own profit. He uses Briggs to burgle wealthy household's that he designed security systems for. When Briggs is caught with the jewels, Voltan simply triggers Fitzgerald's hypnosis to have her steal back the jewels from the police. Due to his use of hypnotized pawns, Voltan remains BeneathSuspicion until the very end, when a chance remark gives Briggs a EurekaMoment. When Voltan is confronted before he can escape with the loot, he compliments Briggs' intelligence, then pulls a gun at him. Briggs confidently asserts that Voltan [[EvenEvilHasStandards is a thief]], but not a killer. After a pause, Voltan proves Brigg right when he is unable to shoot Briggs and Fitzgerald. He flees with his jewels, [[VillainExitStageLeft with the arriving authorities just a few steps behind him]].

* CultClassic: It wasn't a big success when it came out, but its' reputation has improved with the years (although not quite to VindicatedByHistory levels) and it has a devoted following.
* DesignatedVillain: Well more rival than villain, but the Coopersmith Brothers get treated a bit poorly considering they are just following legitimate evidence leading them back to C.W.
