* TheChrisCarterEffect: Nothing was ever really explained regarding the whole Totem thing, and eventually it grew into a KudzuPlot, thanks to ''The Other'' (why did Morlun come back from the dead? What was Miss Arrow? Why did the spider-god resurrect Peter after he was 'killed' by Morlun when it would have violated the natural order?) Sad part is that everything was explained in an acceptable way before the Other came and threw loads of questions. Which is one of the reasons why many people consider it the point the run started going downhill.

Misuse (Doesn't describe an unintentionally funny moment). The fans' negative reactions to the villains being written out-of-character is already noted under Unintentionally Unsympathetic, making this entry redundant.

* {{Narm}}: The 9/11 VerySpecialEpisode showed [[EvenEvilHasStandards even the supervillains were horrified by the attack on the World Trade Center, with Doctor Doom crying and the words "even the worst of us, however scarred, are still human. Still feel. Still mourn the random deaths of innocents"]]. Common fan consensus is it's a nice sentiment and all, but... many of these guys make bin Laden look like that kid who simply kicks down sandcastles on a regular basis and all of them have had absolutely no problem ruining or taking the lives of innocent people in the past. Plus, one of the villains helping is the Juggernaut, who has attacked the Twin Towers previously in his supervillain career. Even if Doom crying was meant to be symbolic of Romita Junior's feelings on 9/11, it's still considered a bizarre choice.

* UnintentionallyUnsympathetic: The 9/11 issue, where it's revealed that [[EvenEvilHasStandards even numerous big-shot supervillains were horrified by all the innocent lives lost in the attack]] and pitched in to help. Problem here is that many of these villains (namely Doctor Doom, who the narrative specifically focuses on) have had little to no qualms against the mass loss of innocent lives in the past and routinely make Al-Qaeda look like playground bullies in scope, making this come across as more insincere hypocrisy than any genuine standards.

Not an example. An Ass Pull is "a moment when the writers pull a narrative development out of thin air in a less-than-graceful fashion." There is a panel clearly depicting Dex staring at a dead guard's pistol, foreshadowing that he would grab it and use it against Morlun later.

* AssPull: With Morlun on the ropes, Spidey is forced to consider whether or not he'll violate his ThouShaltNotKill rule. Rather than actually resolve the conflict, Morlun's assistant/slave Dex renders the point moot by simply shooting Morlun dead for Spidey. Justified, as it was done to create in-Universe NightmareFuel for Spidey, once he realizes that now he will always be suspecting, to his terror, that he would kill Morlun himself. It lacks this justification when the situation repeats itself with Spider-Wasp.

** It's especially noticable that Juggernaut is one of the villains put in here, as a decade before the events of 9/11, he destroyed one of the twin towers in an issue of ''ComicBook/XForce1991'' and ''bursted out in laughter'' after the fact. That makes his presence here, mourning the damage and death of the people caused by the distraction even more awkward and out of place.

However, a significant amount of readers advise new fans to skip it (or at least its second half), since the story reaches its conclusion in ''ComicBook/OneMoreDay'', widely regarded as the worst ''Spider-Man'' story ever written.
