* AntiClimax: Dean's death. While Sam's death is a bit more acceptable, Dean's death is caused by nothing more than a rusty ''nail''. Especially since before this he had shrugged off far worse danger and defeated monsters, angels, and even God Himself. This is arguably the point, since it's clearly meant to be DramaticIrony that for all of Dean's scrapes with death, he finally dies for real in such a mundane way.

This part is dated now. Since, as the entry itself notes, this didn't come to pass.

* FanonDiscontinuity: A sizable contingent of fans outright ignores this episode and views "Inherit the Earth" as the true finale. The main reason behind this is mainly because it feels more like a GrandFinale due to the tension in the story as well as having an AndTheAdventureContinues type of ending which gives fans the option to imagine the future for Sam and Dean, ironically fitting the title "Carry On" better than this episode, where the Winchesters... [[NeverTrustATitle do not carry on]]. Meanwhile, this episode is considered to be a very anti-climatic episode that killed off an iconic character in a ridiculous way while Jared Padalecki wore an unconvincing old man wig. Pretty much the only thing from this episode that is considered canon by these fans is the confirmation that Jack brought Castiel back to life to help fix Heaven, so that instead of reliving your best memories, all the characters can live together peacefully. The alterations to established history and the appearance of an apparently time-travelling Dean in the prequel ''Series/TheWinchesters'' raised fan hopes for the finale to become CanonDiscontinuity, though that proved not to be the case as Dean's role in ''The Winchesters'' turned out to be post-death and the show turned out to be set in an AlternateTimeline.
