Of the four "replacement" Supermen from the "Reign of the Supermen" arc, Superboy was the only one who received a lasting series. (Steel got one, but it was canceled not long after.))
** Jonathan, for being a character that allows writers to explore new ground with Superman. Not only that, but people have wanted Superman and Lois Lane to have a child for decades.

* ReplacementScrappy: While he's liked by the majority of readers, some Conner fans do not like Jonathan Kent. After years of Superboy being... well, crap, they hoped he would be fixed somewhat by Rebirth... this did not happen. In fact, he doesn't seem to appear in anything after the Comicbook/Supergirl story arc "Crucible". And to rub salt in the wound, Jon gets to co-star in Superman written by Peter J. Tomasi and he gets to appear alongside Damian Wayne in Super Sons, never mind the likelihood of him likely making guest appearances in Teen Titans. Suffice to say, Conner fans are not amused that Jon gets such a big push.

** Superboy's last true appearance in the New 52 continuity was a short arc in the DCYou Teen Titans relaunch (Starting in the annual, ending in issue 12) that ended with him coming to the conclusion that he was incapable of feeling human emotions and should "take responsibility" for being a weapon. Harvest then showed up to reclaim him, and he flew away. Whether he is alive, dead, written out of existence, or in another dimension was never clarified.

* FridgeBrilliance: Conner's 'costume'- jeans and a T-shirt- seems odd at first, compared to pretty much every other superhero. But considering Conner's identity issues, it makes perfect sense. He's trying his hardest to not be Superman, in any way possible. He wants to be his own person, and his choice of costume reflects that.
** Further than that, Conner's real identity is Superboy. He's wearing normal clothes because being Superboy is when he takes his costume off.

Conner gets a lot of it from Comicbook/YoungJustice fans, who still insist on calling him Kon.Kon.
** Fans of Superboy-Prime would rather forget that one ComicBook/TeenTitans issue where he lashed out again, undoing the CharacterDevelopment he went through in ComicBook/BlackestNight and suffered TheWorfEffect hard and got placed in the Source Wall.

* OnlyTheCreatorDoesItRight: This trope was invoked on the 90s-era books. After sales dropped substantially during the run of Creator/RonMarz and Ramon Bernado, the character's original creators (Karl Kesel and Tom Grummett) returned to the title in an attempt to recapture the magic the book once had. However, the new stories featured a radically different direction and despite the original team, never truly recovered.

There was no build up to this issue, has no bearing on the series proper, it's just Superboy and Grunge fighting as Grunge talks about the qualifications of being a Ravager, and it is never mentioned again.

** Then again, he has a VERY good FreudianExcuse: trapped inside something multiple times, his world destroyed by Anti-Monitor, and being forced to see the world was not as glimmery and nice as the silver age idea of superheroes...yeah, Prime was evil, but he was, at heart, a kid with some severe issues brought on by multiple life changing catastrophes.

* RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap: Kon-El has been a fan-favorite character since his first appearance, since TheNineties were perfect for that type of character. He became immensely popular during the middle of the decade, as one can tell by the number of one-shots, crossovers (He was one of the main events of Marvel vs DC!), and spin-off monthlies he was featured in at the time. However, Superboy's post-"Graduation Day" revamp was done in large part to update him for a more modern audience. So yes, he was Rescued from the Heap, but he only got there when time marched on without him.
