** Because of the SDCC teasing her eyes, many fans assumed that White Diamond would be mentioned in the show very, very soon. They were proven right, as she does make her full debut in this very episode.

The Diamonds, trapped on Earth for a couple episodes to get them to acclimate to the idea of helping the Gems, could have been enough for a Stevenbomb on their own. Then again, we wouldn't have gotten the White Diamond reveal, and it's possible that such developments are being saved for future episodes.
