* SoOkayItsAverage: The general consensus is that it's a decent and functional ''Spyro'' game, but it's way too repetitive, and the lack of checkpoints makes it tedious.

Boy did I speak too soon

* ThatOneLevel: Ice Age Speedway is one of the most frustrating speedways in the game, mostly thanks to its end boss. The boss has very small attack windows, moves around way faster than you can realistically aim at, has an annoying fake-out move, and slices off three seconds from your time if he hits you. He's especially annoying on the Hard difficulty, where you have to fight TWO of them (although half as big as he was before).

* ThatOneLevel: Ice Space Age Speedway is one of the most frustrating speedways in the game, mostly thanks to its end boss. The boss has very small attack windows, moves around way faster than game and possibly the entire series. Much of how well you can realistically aim at, has an annoying fake-out move, do is going to be based on luck and slices how good you are at attacking the dragon at the end. Doing it on normal mode is hard enough, but all bets are off three seconds from your time if he hits you. This came out a year before ETD, completely negating it being a "sequel" of any sort.

* SurprisinglyImprovedSequel: Whereas ''VideoGame/SpyroEnterTheDragonfly'' was a [[ObviousBeta blatant rushjob]] wrecked by a [[TroubledProduction truly turbulent production]] and is unanimously considered the worst game in the series for it, this handheld entry is significantly more polished and enjoyable in comparison despite being a handheld game, to the extent that even Insomniac Games' CEO Ted Price [[ApprovalOfGod gave the thumbs up to the game and]] [[VideoGame/Spyro2SeasonOfFlame its subsequent follow up.]]
