* ArtisticLicenseArt: May references a Vincent van Gogh painting, "The Plain of Auvers", calling it "haunting" and "disturbing" because the artist "painted it four days before he shot himself". There is no van Gogh with that title. There is one called "Plain ''near'' Auvers", which was painted the same year as his death, but it was definitely not his last work and can't really be described as creepy. It's likely that May is referring to "Wheatfield with [[CreepyCrows Crows]]" or "Wheatfield Under Thunderclouds", which were painted in Auvers shortly before van Gogh's suicide and are much spookier, but have [[RuleOfCool titles that are less mysterious and ambiguous]].

In this scene, Kate isn't starstruck; she's not gushing over how amazing an actor Madonna is. She's shocked because Jack is so casual about revealing that he might work with one of the most famous people in the world, and it hits home for her just how far removed her life is from his. In fact, Madonna's film career being terrible kind of highlights her point - that she admires people like Geoffrey, who toil in obscurity to produce real art with meaning, while Jack moves in circles that are about style over substance.

** Jack translating Hamlet's lines into colloquial modern day English comes off at first like just more of the Hollywood action star being hopelessly out of his depth. But if you think about it a little more, and in light of how he's ultimately able to do the role justice, it shows that he actually does understand what the lines mean rather than just parroting famous quotes, which any good Shakespeare actor will tell you is a must.
