Not sure that's really a fitting example since they ARE supposed to be the bad guys.

* AcceptableTargets: Corrupt cops of course given they're AlternativeCharacterInterpretation: Strangely enough, both the main antagonists theatrical and alternate endings of the movie have Nugent's opposite actions still very much remain in character with him. The latter having him decide to [[spoiler:spare Jack and give up shows he reached his limits in that scenario]] while the former indicates [[spoiler:his willingness to order Jack be killed shows he will still do what he has to for his cause in the film.end]]—with each decision having the opposite effect too. It's definitely represented how that one choice makes all the difference in the outcome while who Nugent is presented as is still very much intact either way.

* MagnificentBastard: Det. Frank Nugent is an NYPD cop seeking to keep thief Eddie Bunker from testifying against him and other corrupt cops involved in witness tampering. Nugent himself having threatened a witness who had a heart attack as a result. He arranges for two drug addicts to kill Eddie and when this fails because of his former partner Det. Jack Mosley, Nugent arranges a plan for Eddie to be killed attempting to escape. Jack protects Eddie and Nugent tirelessly—with both his wits and his instincts—pursues them throughout the city, making use of a stolen police radio to track them and later the stoic Nugent is barely phased when Eddie holds a gun on him. When the crooked Jack decides he will testify instead of Eddie, Nugent resolves to have him killed to prevent it. In the version with the alternate ending though, Nugent decides to order his man to stand down instead of kill Jack and then even puts himself in the line of fire to try to save Jack, clearly feeling guilty when he fails.
