** Many of the bosses that cycle damage immunities during their battles are this. The biggest offenders are those that make their team immune to either physical, magical, or both of these, as well as those that make their team immune to all but one particular class. The player can also invoke this via some challenge modifiers for false gods in ''Ultimate'' by making them immune to any (or even all) of physical, magical, and/or indirect damage. A player team that is specialized in one type of damage or class may struggle over dozens of turns to finally defeat the enemy squad or, in a worst case scenario, get softlocked by being unable to damage them at all.

** The Vacuum spell copies any target's innate trait onto the caster. The thing is, this also includes the gods' Gate of the Gods boss versions of their traits. Some of them are harder to utilize than others, especially since they often require surviving to your creature's first turn to use it, and some builds auto-kill the enemy team at the start of battle anyway. The gods on whom it may be most useful, however, include Aeolian (whose team can only take damage from a certain class at at a time and is immune to indirect damage -- your creatures also get that same benefit), and especially Lister (whose team is completely immune to damage; if you vacuum his trait, all you need to do is pass turns until you win).
*** On the other hand, Anneltha counters it. Each turn she gets, your leftmost monster is wiped out and unable to revive for the battle. Unfortunately, that does not translate in your favor, as your leftmost monster still succumbs to that effect when your assimiliating monster's turn comes around.

** Reaver is another broadly disliked specialization. The specialization revolved around becoming stronger as the fight goes on, which isn’t hard to build around, but ensures that every fight is going go on for a long time. Reaver is infamously tedious to use as a result, and much like Inquisitor it gets outclassed by faster and more versatile specializations.

* AuthorsSavingThrow: Lister’s trial of the gods and Jotun’s fight quickly gained negative reputations due to their quirk; outlive the enemy’s assault and eventually you win. This resulted in battles taking a long time as it was originally tied to the games exhaustion mechanic, which requires all participants to have a certain amount of turns for it to kick in. Eventually the gimmick of the two fights were changed from involving exhaustion to a hard turn number instead, making them both a lot less lengthy and tedious.

Forgot that you put that super strong all-enemy spell on one of your artifacts? Your team is probably dead. M'rgo can at least be dealt with in a few different ways, including using combinations of passively-used attacks and spells where their team won't copy them, but good luck building a sound strategy against Yseros.

** Nix Informers and Nix Scoundrels respectively silence and scorn your creatures for a turn at the beginning of the fight, and this is one of the many fusion traits creatures can have with realm instability. If your team is built for either of these and you encounter these traits, you’ll at best be annoyed for a turn and at worst be dead before you can really act.

** A few of the Gods in ''Ultimate'', especially on higher difficulty ratings:
*** [[RainofArrows Apocranox]] casts a random arrow spell every time any creature's turn begins or ends. If you're lucky, only one or two of your creatures will be dead when you get your first turn. God help you if he ends up using Fragmenting Arrow on your squishiest team member or Disintegrating Arrow if you're running a Rebirth-based team.
*** [[FlunkyBoss Muse]] and her creatures always have all minions sans Illusion and cast Crucifixion at the beginning of each of their turns, meaning you're going to be dealing with a lot of painful passive damage, many debilitating debuffs, and counterattacks. Muse herself is pretty squishy, but trying to subdue her before your own party gets creamed can feel pretty luck-based.

They endow their whole team with an ability to cast one of their spells automatically if they take more than 25% of their health in a single hit. Unfortunately, this means hitting their whole team with a powerful spell leads to a big chain of spells going off, slowing the game down and preventing the battle from being finished quickly. God help you if you used something that hit them multiple times each.
