** At the beginning of his ''The Mind of Jake Paul'' series, Shane acknowledges his tendency to be very forgiving and determined to help people. He makes it clear that he is going to be more critical and that he'll try to let go of his desire to fix people in this case, after receiving criticism for the [=TanaCon=] series, which people saw as biased.
** The second episode of the series attracted criticism for the over-the-top creepy presentation in relation to the topic of sociopaths, with scary music, editing, and video clips being used. Shane addressed these concerns in the future episodes, admitting he just likes the horror style of editing and got carried away, and resolved to improve the presentation of the rest of the videos.

* PlotTumor: His food-tasting/making videos, which, for a time, were a phase that took up the majority of his videos. They eclipsed all his other videos, including the incredibly popular [[EpilepticTrees conspiracy theory]] videos. He seems to have become aware of this though, and does conspiracy/creepy videos at least once a week, while dialing back the food videos. Shane acknowledges this shift (and the shift away from this shift) in a vlog with Ryland, noting that "food Shane is back" when eating a donut/cookie sandwich.

* NightmareFuel: Some of his BlackComedy videos can border on this.
** His "Blank Space" parody is full of this. Even though this is PlayedForLaughs, it's still pretty disturbing and nightmare-inducing.
** The Pop Blast incident is both this and a dose of AdultFear if you think about it: Shane ''almost'' had his entire career as a [=YouTuber=] ruined and in shambles after spending years building it up and garnering a big reputation by ''one'' random channel with no credibility pulling InsaneTrollLogic that he was a "pedophile" only to later on retract the video and put out creepy-esque videos before their channel was deleted. Imagine that situation happening to ''any'' of your favorite [=YouTubers=] you watch.

* NeverLiveItDown:
** A lot of his older content was shocking and insensitive in ways that went too far and when it resurfaced in 2020, took a serious toll on his public image and reputation; this includes the use of blackface in sketches (and even after he stopped making the sketches, continuing to sell merchandise featuring the character Shanaynay), and jokes about pedophilia and underage girls. While the incident might have blown over, the resurfacing of a clip where he simulated masturbating to a photo of a then-11 year old Willow Smith drew the attention and ire of Creator/JadaPinkettSmith and Creator/JadenSmith, resulting in even more media coverage and meaning that even people who'd never heard of him ended up learning about his past behaviour.
** He ran into it again after joking about having sex with his cat, and had to put out a statement clarifying that he’d never actually done it... Which itself became a case of this,[[MemeticMutation as his original tweet became a notorious meme.]]

* FunnyAneurysmMoment: The end of the "Say Something" video with Music/ChristinaGrimmie. When she jokes about being part of his "fan army", Shane says "You're the one with the gun that doesn't know how to use it. You're just shooting everywhere and people are dying". Cut to June 2016...

** He ran into it again after joking about having sex with his cat, and had to put out a statement clarifying that he’d never actually done it.

** Shane has met disapproval for his very empathetic nature in regard to his support of his friend, controversial fellow creator Tana Mongeau, especially after the infamous [=TanaCon=] failure and his series about the event, where several viewers criticized his approach, perceiving bias toward his friend when some think she didn't deserve sympathy to begin with.
