Not YMMV, even if it was, YMMV can't be played with.

* TheyChangedItNowItSucks: Many people longed for the more serious [[SimulationGame Flight Simulator]] nature of the original ''Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe'' and its [[NoCampaignForTheWicked Nazi campaign feature]].
* MookHorrorShow: Admittedly downplayed, but the enemy radio chatter makes a point of emphasizing how utterly screwed they are when you start to mess things up for them. Special mentions to the Germans witnessing [[spoiler: having a seemingly friendly bomber suddenly go rogue and begin attacking your airfields, then seeing your invasion fleet sunk]], [[spoiler: realizing that one of their new Jet fighters has been stolen and is now being flown by the enemy]], and just generally reacting uncomfortably realistically to being shot down or witnessing one of their buddies fall to earth in a flaming aluminum casket:
** "Otto? Otto?! We lost Otto!"
** "I don't know how, but they must have captured one of our planes! [[OhCrap Dear God, destroy him!]]"

** In all fairness, none of the [[FollowTheLeader similar-themed games coming in its wake]] did all that great either, especially ''Blazing Angels''.

** Midway, the MarathonLevel that's split into ''four'' parts, while you are confined to the Devestator, the Dauntless, and the Wildcat, all of which are below average and will likely be destroyed in a few hits.

** Admittedly, [[NintendoHard MOST]] of the game's levels can prove to be a bit more challenging than anticipated, but As a rule of thumb, any mission where you don't get a choice of aircraft/force you into a different aircraft mid level (ignoring any upgrades you may have placed on this type of plane), or have a multipart mission, will give you a run for your money.

** ''Any'' mission involving the Swordfish, a fragile torpedo bomber that won't stand a chance against everything else.
