** Some find it hard to sympathize with Pissmaster in "Analyze Piss", even after his suicide. His very appearance was him going to someone's house, [[IShallTauntYou spraying it with piss and throwing insults precisely to provoke a fight,]] with the sexualization of a minor being InUniverse the last straw. The fact that Pissmaster blames Jerry feels more like [[NeverMyFault he can't take responsibility for his own actions,]] and the fact he has a family he ignored to pursue his dream of fame (by, again, beating up people around the universe) makes him look more self-centered than relatable.

* CryForTheDevil: Tommy may have become [[spoiler:a CloudCuckoolander {{Caligula}} who rapes the Froopyland inhabitants and eats their children to stay alive, but it's clear that Beth betraying him and leaving him to die broke his mind. He spent decades in a false world that he was unable to leave, gave up hope of ever returning home, and had to do terrible things to survive. When he sees two more human beings, his first reaction is to explain who he is, and to put on a play about how he got trapped. Disturbing as the play is, and his demonstration of the rape and cannibalism, it's obvious that Tommy's mind has reached a breaking point. It says something that ''Rick'' is disturbed about what Beth did, and tells her that since she made this problem, she has to fix it on her own. Then at the end, Beth still refuses to take responsibility, while Tommy is cowering from her on learning who she is, and he sets his children on her when she won't apologize. Whether or not Beth killed Tommy, she did murder his children and cut off his finger, without suffering any consequences for her actions.]]

* AccidentalAesop: Rick is a VillainProtagonist written by Creator/DanHarmon, who is not afraid to let people draw the wrong conclusion from outré writing. What follows is a list of episodes where people are mostly flipping the coin on whether the aesop was an accident, and many of them are aware of that. These are just the episodes that most obviously flipped that coin, probably.

* MisaimedFandom: Some fans consider Rick to be a hero despite his abusive nature, or at least an UnscrupulousHero if not an AntiHero. We ''are'' meant to see Rick as a compelling individual (i.e. an interesting character who [[JerkassHasAPoint has his points]], and is funny) but in no way are we meant to ignore the negative impact he has on his family and friends. He uses his intelligence, skill, and StrawNihilist tendencies to justify gaslighting Morty and Beth in order to assert his perceived superiority. Morty starts taking on some of Rick's negative traits, and is frequently horrified by how much he has been corrupted by his grandfather. Rick's refusal to emotionally open up to his loved ones damages Rick himself even more. The third season acknowledges this fact by deconstructing Rick's abusive influence on the family. Morty states in the season premiere that Rick shouldn't be seen as a hero and, by the time the third season ends, even Summer and Beth have grown tired of Rick's toxic behavior. In spite of all of the above, there are still some people who view Rick as someone to be admired for "telling it like it is" to people, in spite of all of the problems that his attitude causes everyone.

** "[[Recap/RickAndMortyS7E10FearNoMort Fear No Mort]]": The Fear Hole is a manipulative yet affable entity that helps people face their worst fears, while also [[EmotionEater feeding off of them]]. When Morty jumps into the hole, it creates a manifestation of Rick to accompany him and repeatedly tricks him into thinking that he escaped, only to pull him back in when he is confronted with a new fear. When Morty finally realizes that his greatest fear is Rick not valuing him, the hole frees him, telling him that his fear of relying on Rick has been delicious. While Morty comes out less burdened, he is also left shaken by the experience.

** '''Tammy Gutermann.''' She was built-up to be one of the show's big villains, as she was revealed to be a deep-cover agent who posed as one of Summer's closest friends for several years. And yet, despite the anticipation since the Season 3 premiere, she's never seen for the rest of the season, and only appears in a fantasy sequence in midway through Season 4, and in-person in the season finale where she's anti-climatically taken down by Rick via BoomHeadshot She doesn't even get to have a proper interaction with Summer -- the girl she was supposedly friends with -- post-reveal. Fans were not happy about the way Tammy was treated by the narrative.

** While the idea of switching places with your alternate selves has always been a terrifying concept utilized by the Smith-Sanchez's throughout the show, they only did so at a point where those family members also happened to die. The end of "Fear No Mort" [[spoiler: has our Mr. Poopybutthole steal one of Rick's portal guns and switch places with an alternate version of himself in a reality where he still has a happy marriage; leaving the alternate Mr. Poopybutthole in the dimension we know.]] It gives off that fear that the people you know may not be WHO you know.

** Both of them are misanthropic jerks who become popular out-of-universe for being smarter than everyone else and for being right, despite the show taking steps to show how miserable they are due to how IntelligenceEqualsIsolation, InsufferableGenius and AttentionDeficitOohShiny affects their life.
** Both of them take steps to manipulate everyone around them to get to their ideal or ultimate goal, with the main difference being that Rick burns the rest of his cast in the process, forcing them to reevaluate how they see him, while [[Characters/HouseGregoryHouse House]] continues to be the work equivalent of a ToxicFriendInfluence (Toxic Co-worker Influence?
