* HilariousInHindsight: In the record store, we can clearly see a line of records labeled for an alternative rock band named "Hole" - [[Music/{{Hole}} No, not that one]]. They didn't become active until 1989 and Music/CourtneyLove was instead pursuing an acting career when this movie was made.

* ValuesDissonance: Ducky is a complete ''creep'' by modern standards. When he's not insisting that Andie and he are in a relationship, he's often making crass and sexist remarks towards other female students.

** Notably not just a ''[[FanPreferredCouple Fan]]'' [[FanPreferredCouple Preferred Couple]], but also a ''Creator'' Preferred Couple as well. John Hughes disliked the ending, and rectified it with ''Film/SomeKindOfWonderful'', which features a similar (if not identical) plot, albeit [[GenderFlip gender-swapped]].

So much that if people showed up dressed like these people in a movie today, the audience would assume the characters were satirizing the 80s. There's also a lot of Duckie's dialogue (such as him saying "bogus" unironically).

* DeaderThanDisco: Though a critical and commercial success at the time of its release, ''Pretty in Pink'' has fallen out of favor, in part because of the weaknesses of its story, questionable messages, and for being a serious UnintentionalPeriodPiece. It holds a mediocre 6.7 on IMDB, with many posts on the film's message board expressing a negative opinion of it, especially in regards to the acting of Creator/MollyRingwald, who herself has succumbed to this trope.
