* ToughActToFollow: Newcomer George Lazenby had his work out for him when he filled the shoes that Sean Connery had filled in five straight Bond movies to come out prior to OHMSS. To this day fans and critics remain divided on whether or not he succeeded, even though it is now generally viewed as a solid film in its own right.

* WTHCastingAgency: The main star himself, George Lazenby, especially considering he had minimal acting experience prior to being cast in the role of James Bond. Fortunately, he has found a respectable following for his role on OHMSS in the years since.

** Diana Rigg at the time was known for the spy series Series/TheAvengers. Here she stars alongside Sean Connery, who would later play the villain in the film of the series decades later. What's more is that Creator/JoannaLumley is also in this film and she would later star in a revival of the show in Rigg's place.

--> Bond: He had a lot of guts....
** The way Blofeld controls the women over the speaker looks too much like a cult.
* ReplacementScrappy: Lazenby was considered this for Sean Connery, although most are far kinder to him nowadays with most of the blame having to do with the failures of his agent.
* TearJerker: Miss Moneypenny crying.
** "We Have All The Time in The World" was reportedly Satchmo's last recording. He died in 1971. The reports were inaccurate. He recorded it in 1969, and went on to record three albums and make numerous TV appearances between then and his death.
** Tracy's backstory and death.
*** Even worse, after Tracy dies, James is trying for a few moments not to admit that she's dead. His face shows that he knows she's dead, but he just can't say it.
--> James: It's alright. It's quite alright, really. She's having a rest. We'll be going on soon. There's no hurry, you see. We have all the time in the world.

* LikeYouWouldReallyDoIt: Having Bond actually fall in love and marry one of the many, many women he has courted on his missions was indeed a bold move for the franchise......Only to see her suddenly killed off in the final moments of the film. Probably a case where it actually worked to the benefit of the series, bringing with it one of the most emotional and human moments from James Bond.

* VindicatedByHistory: Among fans, anyway. The film was not well received when it was first released (for reasons regarding Lazenby), but since then many fans of the series regard it as a classic. Also, EON Studios has demonstrated their own love of the film on numerous occasions.
** While the casual moviegoer or average film critic tends to think Film/Goldfinger is the best Bond movie, hardcore Bond fans- and Bond fans who happen to be respected movie critics- have a good chance of listing this film as greatest in the series. That's how vindicated it has become.
** Even the claims that the film was "not well received when it was first released" are inaccurate. The movie received a number of good reviews on its release. Also, per IMDB, it had made over $87 million worldwide on a $7 million budget as of 1970, making it quite successful financially. It was a step down from the level of You Only Live Twice, but nonetheless, the studio was well compensated for its investment. In terms of overall film and narrative quality, let's just say that time has been much kinder to On Her Majesty's Secret Service than You Only Live Twice, or the so LighterAndSofter that it was practically camp comedy Diamonds Are Forever (often described as a RogerMoore Bond film that just happens to star SeanConnery).
