* Tearjerker: The death of 009, where we see him desperately running for his life only to succumb to a knife in his back the moment he he reaches his countrymen in West Berlin; his untimely death looms over Bond as he gives chase to his killers.

Added DiffLines:

* ToughActToFollow: As if this movie's mediocrity isn't enough, it's coming on the heels of one of the best entries in the Moore era, if not ''the'' best, and certainly one of the best in the series overall.

Added DiffLines:

* NeverLiveItDown: Again, the scene where Bond dresses like a clown is usually the first thing people recall of this movie. However, the aforementioned circumstances of said scene may or may not mitigate the more negative effects of this for some.

Added DiffLines:

** A careful eye can clearly see Kamal's plane already coming apart a second before it actually erupts into flames.
** Gobinda crushing the dice; imposing as it is to see him crush them into dust, it's a tad too obvious that it is actually dust when he tosses it away.

* HilariousInHindsight:
** The first climax involves Bond successfully deactivating a nuclear bomb - something he couldn't do almost 20 years earlier in the climax of ''Film/{{Goldfinger}}''.
** Kabir Bedi, who plays the evil henchman Gobinda, also appeared in the low budget horror film ''Satan's Mistress'' around this same time with former Bond girl Lana Wood (Plenty O'Toole from ''Film/DiamondsAreForever'').

** Vijay's death; It's one of those few times where Bond is profoundly affected by the death of an ally, respectfully covering his mutilated body. Especially gutwrenching considering what a nice guy he was.

* UnfortunateImplications: Bond in India is never going to end well. It still does a lot better than ''Film/IndianaJonesAndTheTempleOfDoom'', but it's still uncomfortably neo-colonialist, especially Bond's remark, after tipping an Indian driver, "that'll keep him in curry for a while!" It's treatment of women - never a Bond series strong point - is poor, and the not-so-subtle implication of Stephen Berkoff's mad Soviet general is that nuclear disarmament and peacenikery are doomed to failure because Reds are evil. [[http://permanentplastichelmet.com/2012/01/17/blogalongabond-octopussy-an-all-time-low/ See here.]]
** That last point is extremely debatable, given that every other General on the council besides Orlov wants peace with the West and thinks that Orlov is nuts.
* VindicatedByCable: Lived a short life in theaters to disparaging reviews. However, like many films of TheEighties, {{HBO}} was very good to it.

** Orlov smashes the ''real'' Fabergé egg. Yikes.

** Orlov smashes the ''real'' Fabergé egg. Yikes. Kamal Khan even looks horrified, realizing this.
